Worst car service rental ever experienced in South Africa to date. As much as the reception staff are welcoming and efficient in the collection and the paperworks, the staff outside in the parking bays when its time to check/inspect the car both on collection and drop off have not one hints of customer service, it is as if we as a customer are asking them favours whilst they busy having their chats and yet they are quick to point out supposedly damage to the car on return, quick to send a damage bill, yet when querying they never ever responded to emails. My experience after returning the car was before I even parked the car, one of the attendant start shouting their is damage on the car, he was adamant, yet on collection I was the one pointing and insisting the form are amended and updated with the scratches and missing boot cover strings, which they did reluctantly. I am still waiting to hear from them. My advice to any customer rather use other car hire companies in Sandton, Johannesburg. Avis South Africa could do better Regards Miguel Chan

This must be the most unprofessional service I’ve received in years. I hired a car for about a month and when returning it it had a scratch on the front bumper and I wasn’t aware. From that day of returning the car the service was shocking. I got helped by a guy from the parking lot at around 8:30. At 13:00 I got a call to say when am I returning the car. To find that I have returned the car in the morning. Fast foward, I was told the car would be taken to head office to access the damage and then I will be billed. Its been almost 3 weeks and I haven’t heard anything from them. When I call in to ask I am told they don’t know what is happening but as soon as I have been billed I will be notified. There’s no turnaround time or anything close. Meanwhile they are holding over 6k in deposit. All I want is to be billed and get the remaining of my money back. Why is this so hard? The irritating part is not knowing when you will get feedback, if ever. Try other branches fam for less headache. I dont see myself setting foot in the Sandton branch

I had to rent my car from the Avis Sandton branch through my insurance company when my car was in for repairs. It was the weirdest car hire experience ever for me. Once I got over the underground parking location, I was underwhelmed by the service and the rest of the process of finalizing my hire. I was made to fill in paperwork, which included me having to acknowledge that I was advised of certain things, which I wasn't. The person assisting me then went to collect my car whilst I waited for no less than 45 mins. The car arrived wet from a wash and go I had to assume. I guess they didn't have time to dry it as I was waiting, even though I did phone during the day to advise of my arrival time. As if that was not enough, I also had to follow a gentleman from Avis to a filling station, the opposite direction to my way home, as my car did not have fuel. To this stay am still stunned and unclear as to whether this is their usual way of operating.

Terrible service overall. One of the worst experiences from a car rental company and branch we have ever received. Still waiting on my call back from the branch manager. Been over 2 weeks now. Oneil when are you manager giving me my call back?? We where promised a waiver of the one way fee due to the bad service and was still charged the one way fee as we did not drop off the vehicle at the airport. We got the incorrect vehicle on arrival and had to drive back to the branch twice to sort it out. And endless calls. They never answer the phones. Rather go with any other car rental company but not with Avis!!!! They don`t even know how to spell the word SERVICE. It not part of there training. They just interested in taking as much money from you as possible. Google please active 0 star options for future as this bad service deserve no stars!!

It started with the counter lady crossing her arms at 11.55am and inviting me to sit out the 5 minutes because my booking only started at noon then quickly escalated to a "procedure" farce. My Expedia booking had been done at a favorable rate on the app in GBP. Why I don't know, I am French and had done the booking while in SA. One of my two drivers licence is South African. She did not like a French passport with a South African licence and my "foreign" booking. So she refused to give me the car although the Expedia booking was fully paid. After 90 minutes is their - 3 basement office (absolutely no network coverage) I caved in and although I also have an American drivers licence I had to pay twice the price Again to leave with the same car. It was a shake down. I will never use Avis again in my life. Ever.

This must be one of the worst Avis branches I have yet encountered. The google pin isn’t correct and there is no signage telling you to turn after it says you have reached your destination. When you find your own way to the parking garage the signage continues to be poor and you are left guessing what to do. When you reach the office the staff are all in their back room making a great deal of noise fooling around, when they do decide to help you it is not done in the friendly manner as the other Avis Branches usually does. They take very long and treat you like it’s a huge inconvenience assisting you. I’d recommend driving the extra 15 minutes to Avis Sunninghill and rather dealing with them, they too are not fantastic but are certainly better than the Sandton Branch.

The worst kind of service. It is my first time booking a car and I have spoken to some lady to reserve a 7 seater. Initially I wanted a Tiguan but I was advised that Fortuner is available at 16:30, I then got there at 16:55 due to traffic and I was told it is closed and I should come back today 02/10/21. When I got there I'm being told there are no cars and I did not make a reservation. Basically the lady I called didn't do her job, now I've lost money for where I was supposed to travel to. The supervisor is worse, she didn't assist in any regard or even show any remorse. She said she'll listen to the recording but she didn't play the recording making excuses. I'll never set foot in a place like that ever again.

AVIS rules of getting a car is an absolute nightmare. And for those people who don't have a credit card or don't have access to cash... You won't be able to get a car. You can't offer your debit card. You can't do an EFT. You can't offer someone else's credit (I had my cousins because I learned from the time before) But the AVIS staff didn't just shrug their SHOULDERS with no solution. They drove me (both times) to the nearest atm for me to withdraw cash (which is what they do accept) Those rules need to change and they need to change the way they "track the money" which is the reason I was given for only using credit cards or cash as a deposit.

Not pleased about the service at all. You hold the line for a long time and give up. I have tried National to resolve my issues and to transfer. Only today 07/07/23 did I manage through and I am still waiting for return update call. They requested kilometers reading a few days ago whilst I dropped the vehicle on the 19th of June 23. They owe me a refund as our account is now sitting on negative (- R8500) and they keep insisting we owe R9000. When I called to enquire return date around the 09th of June, I was informed the vehicle is only due on the 09th of July 23. This is one hell of an inconvenience. Issue still not resolved

Picked up a car in the morning, by the afternoon the car would not start. A friendly gentleman came to help jump start, after while it sprung to life. Mind you, i had not used any lights. I went to the Sandton branch, the lady who was busy on her mobile phone behind the counter was nothing as friendly as the OR TAMBO crew. It seemed cumnersome a process for her to make another booking, thank goodness to the male colleague who would enthusiastically explain and advice. Long and short, no car - i had to make another booking and there was no car to exchange... meaning i have to go back there again. Inconvenient.

I was provided a rental car by my insurer. Avis could not arrange to drop the car off at the repair centre 5kms from the Avis Sandton branch. I was told to pick up the vehicle at 1pm. I arrived at 1pm and drove out at 1.55pm ... for a pre arranged pick up. There was 1 other client during that time. I now have to change the vehicle as the boot lock is faulty. 4 Calls via the call centre. I have been on the phone for 30mins and i still have not spoken to anyone at the branch. Absolutely pathetic service!! no wonder i use another car hire company when i personally hire a car.

I returned the car on the 28th of December 2022 and I was told that the deposit payment will be returned to me in 7 days. During that period I received an invoice with extra charges on it and also a price change on the car I rented. The price moved from R2.9k to R3.1k plus additional other charges that put the cost to R5.1k. I feel ripped off by Avis. But now I am waiting for my remaining deposit yet avis is not transferring it back into my account and it's been like 8 days now. I wouldn't recommend this company to anyone. Unless you are prepared to lose money.

PLEASE DON'T USE THIS AVIS EVER! I had to use one of there cars as my car was stolen. When I returned the car. Everyone was to busy to help me. I requested assistance to please inspect my motor vehicle and no one wanted to help. Later I received a message that they will not be paying out my deposit due to car damage. There was no damage. Secondly how can you claim that there is damage, if you where not there to inspect the motor and make me sign a document if there was damage? So please note that you will not receive a deposit back no matter what!

The car I received was dirty inside, Soft drink stains on the center console and back seat had stains too. The consultant at the front desk said they will deduct R1400 and ended up deducting +/- R2100 as the deposit, Wonder how Avis made that mistake!, Should've asked for a car upgrade to compensate for the negligence. I don't have a CC so this went off my cheque account and I was told it will only take 30 days for the deposit to reflect back into my account. So in a nut shell.. Very disappointed for an Avis in Sandton CBD.

Very bad service and stupid staff: although they validated the driving license and the credit card and accepted a reservation when i came 3 days in advance in person, on the day of the rental they found a stupid reason to reject the reservation - because one letter on the license and card was different because of spelling differences of countries of issuance of the license and card. This was never a problem for renting with a Budget in other countries, e.g. Australia. Went to Europcar instead

Disgusting service. First time using them I had a late afternoon drop off at Sandton Avis. No one informed me that they close at 5 which is obviously critical information and not expected from a car rental service. I arrived at literally 5:02 and they refused to accept the car. I had to drive to the airport in peak traffic to try and make it in time for my flight. The manager was cold as ice. She wasn’t going to let a distressed customer in need get in the way of her 5pm sharp clock off.

I'm not sure about this service. Car rental is one price and the "insurances" basically double the initial price. So many amounts on hold on my account. I had an incident where a very small rock on the road chipped the bonnet, now awaiting the assessment. Overall I wouldn't suggest this service for individuals as up to now they held ~12,000ZAR for renting a group B (Renault Clio) car for 2 days. Maybe it works out for companies, I just don't know. ‍♂️

AVIS reserved a security amount of R12.800 off my credit card (if course with cooperation of my bank) When I returned the. vehicle after 20 days 2 I was told that the reservation of the security amount would be removed within 3 to 4 days.. After 7 days I enquired and was told that the amount would be reversed within 24/48 hours.... 10 days!!! Please. I am neither a bank nor a money lender......and of course NO APOLOGY whatsoever......I call that arrogant....

Can't get through to them on the their line, no one answers and eventually drops the call, I left a charger in the rental car which I wanted to call and find out if have it and couldn't get through to them for this. Ideally they should be letting the client know, but I get we're in SA and companies aren't great at hiring people who would do the honest thing. regardless, horrible service if you can't get a hold of Avis, they don't want your business.

It was really an interesting experience. The security guards wouldn't let me in for some reason. When I arrived, there was a guy that was sat inside an office with some ladies. One of the ladies asks him to help me, but he was quick to go on about how he was eating and didn't want to be disturbed (a common occurrence in Southern Africa). Another lady, Karabo came and sorted me out. I would give her 4 stars, but 1 star is for the whole of the team.

Pathetic and appalling customer service from the 3 female employees at the Sandton Old Mutual Building branch. My Agent booked a pickup for 5pm, so I got to the branch at 5pm. When I got to the office to do the pickup, the 3 females ignored me, jumped in their private vehicles and drove off, leaving me standing outside their without my vehicle. Why would AVIS accept bookings for the afternoons if they are not willing to accomodate their clients.

I use Avis often. However Avis Sandton is very haphazard in their operations. Where to park on return, who checks your car on return, navigating the car in and out of the tiny check Bay...all seem to vary depending on who you ask at the time. The staff always seem too busy or stressed out so smiles and niceness are a luxury. Avis Lanseria by comparison is miles apart in friendliness of staff and efficiency of the checking in or out process.

Don't bother asking them to assist you in driving you back to your office a short distance a way. They expect you to walk back and make excuses. Service is poor. They do not tell you that when returning the vehicle, that it should be before 5pm because they are closed for returns and the security will tell you to drive to OR Thambo or Sunninghill. Avis has always treated me well but Sandton office is poor.

Easy pickup, polite service, decent car. If you are being dropped off by someone who will be checking the car with you, you can enter the Old Mutual parking on Rivonia or Stella Roads. Go to basement 3 for Avis. Don't forget to take both your driver's licence and passport (or ID document) with you. You will be required to load a smartphone app and fit a driving style monitoring transponder to the vehicle.

Never use this place to rent a vehicle, this is the worst place to rent a vehicle. Their customer service is beyond ridicule & some of the employees ask to be bribed when you drop off the vehicle. Complaints & queries also don't get resolved, no one calls or updates you, this is the worst customer experience I have ever had. It has also been almost 2 weeks & I have not received my holding deposit.

Will say if everything goes well then Avis is definitely top notch from quality of car to quality of service from staff. However should you require to make an amendment , the hot line is tougher get through the international borders right now. Overall , I have always been pleased with the service and quality of vehicle. Remember to book through eBucks travel guys for some discount if applicable.

Avis need to look at updating their info on the web.Braamfontein branch doesn't seem to exist on Google maps and if I had found it would have been closed.(stated as open on maps). Sandton Gautrain branch actually situated across the street in Old Mutual building.Who knew.No signage.Spent lots of time and extra fuel just to try and return a vehicle.Did receive good service once I had found them.

The Branch Supervisor on duty, Mr PJ Van Biljoen was EXCELLENT. I arrived with a big problem of my own making (left my wallet with Driver's License back in my hotel) and he went well out of his way to drive me to my hotel (just 5mins away by car, but a 3km walk at night) to fetch my Drivers License and take me back to his offices to collect my Avis Rental car. WOW! He must get promoted!

Nice employees and boss. When dropping the car back they helped me reporting a security problem I had renting a car in Avis Or Tambo Airport. But the Avis boss at OR Tambo didn't help me at all...she just passed of the issue even though she said felt "much empathy". Be careful renting Avis cars at OR Tambo...they won't attend should any problem arise. At least as boss in june 2019

Their introduction to the additional R10000 deposit is understandable but if its not done across all branches like the airport ones it doesn't make sense to a regular user. Even after returning the car and getting the invoice, it will take forever to get that deposit back. Its 6 days and counting, I am still waiting for the funds to be released.

1. Car selection on website doesn't match real world offerings. 2. Had to nag to get the automatic transmission car that I originally requested for. I drive manual at home, but it's a large car, so it allows manoeuvring space (I'm tall). 3. First car had coffee stains all over the car roof. 4. Service from the female staff members was terrible

Good service from Avis in general. The only problem is there is a tone of fees and charges that are not quoted for. Also I left the car with 1/2 tank petrol and got charged for a full tank with more fees. Returned another car a week prior with a full tank of petrol and once again got charged petrol. Feels a bit dishonest.

Be sure to check your vehicle for damage before driving off, and from Avis in general. I've rented countless times from them, they say the vehicles are 'pre-inspected', but I've found there are often stone chips and dents, if you don't point these out before you leave they will charge you when you return the car.

My vehicle insurance policy includes an additional premium for 30 days' car hire. I hired an Avis car for 10 days. Now I'm receiving threatening SMSes from Avis demanding payment of R2000.00. Really? My insurer tells me Avis is notorious for doing this sort of thing. Not impressed.

The hire car's throttle linkage to the transmission is seriously out of sink. The revs at standstill are erratic. The car is clean cosmetically but mechanically needs serious attention.lve had this unit for less than an hour and not at all happy....Steve.

It is not easily accessible as its in the basement of the Old mutual building so you might miss it. It only caters for collection and drop-off, for bookings you have to call their national contact centre which can be time-consuming.

It is the most convenient car rental place because it is just across the Gautrain station. Whether you heading to PTA, OR Tambo or JHB this is the place that works better for me when I have to collect or dropoff a rented car.

Use this place quite a lot through work, not recently have had cars that smell of smoke. When a car was hit by another car and the bumper was damaged they wouldn't pick it up and told us to remove the bumper ourselves

Very difficult to find with no signage, it is in the parking garage of the building across the road. If you have heavy bags it's quite a mission to het from there to the Gautrain. Service was efficient and friendly.
