++ After reading this, you'll go straight to the big rental companes ++ The service of this car rental has been the worst I've ever experienced in years. We arrive at the front desk perfectly on time for our appointment, in the morning after a long flight. From the very beginning, we are asked to give a lot of personal details, eg payslip and flight ticketes, that no one ever required for a first-time costumer. This background check, carried one by the receptionist with irony about how reliable we would have been "to not steal the car", went one for ca 1h30m. After this long, we get to know that we passed the background check and pay the deposit, but the car that was supposed to be there from the very beginning is not there yet. I'll forever wonder if the check was only done to make us lose time. So, we wait for the car. We wait another hour, and when finally the car gets delivered to the collecton point the system for finilazing the contract goes down. Apparently, there is no way to do it offline -- we are forced to wait an unknown amount of time. Hence we ask to leave for lunch and to be called back when the system is back on. When we return to the desk, the system is back on and the same receptionist was "thinking exactly about us" and "about to call us back" -- while attending other costumers, whose turn we have to wait to be finished. Sadly, the system goes down again. We are forced to wait again until evening, when the system works again. And even if the whole delay wasn't our fault, we are asked to pay the entire day! But the best comes when we have trouble during the trip: we get robbed and the car becomes unusable because of a missing glass. We are far from one of their store, so they claim that they cannot send a substitute car. We get to know later that our 3h ride back to Joburg with a hole in the car has been useless, because the company has a vallet service for this kind of problems. And that the contract could have been finalized offline without us losing the first day of vacation.

Extremely dissapointed with Woodford, booked a car, the email confirmation said to bring CREDIT CARD and DRIVERS LICENCE only. Upon collection of the vehicle, the agent said they can't give us the car as we don't have proof of employment, on a Saturday afternoon they wanted us to provide bank statements, proof of address, proof of employment, this was not mentioned in the confirmation email at all no communicated beforehand that it's required. According to the agent this is company policy, however this should be communicated prior to collecting the car, not when we there to pick up to get all these documents. I've booked with other rental companies before and never have I been asked for so many documents, it's as if tho I was applying for a financing for the vehicle or something. And to top it off, instead of holding the deposit, the agent processed the deposit as a charge and not a hold on the card In total it was an hour wait for us to get our vehicle whereas with the other international branded car hire companies I've used before it literally takes minutes to get the car. Company should be upfront as to what they require from customers and not deny them at collection because the renter does not have the piles of documentation they require.

I had the worst experience at Woodford. I hired a car, I visited the Hilton Hotel branch physically prior to confirm everything, sent through the documents they needed days prior. I received a WhatsApp confirmation that the car was ready for collection and when I get there, after waiting for an hour to be handed the car, to be told that the risk department has now declined the application because the car is going to Durban and Durban is high risk. Mind you I had told them 4 days prior that I hired the car on unlimited kms because I was driving to Durban. Booking #4843512. I sent WhatsApps on the company WhatsApp number with no response. I called the Durban branch number for enquiries and they said they couldn't help me if the risk department declined the application. My question is why do you send me a confirmation WhatsApp and email if the full due diligence is still pending? When I arrived at the Hilton Hotel desk on Friday morning (31st April 2023) there was no one at the desk for a good 20min. 2 of the clients in front of me also canceled their bookings due to other incompetence issues. Worst experience, worst service ever.

Firstly there lady that works in the Woodford Hilton office. She is very rude and doesn't know how to speak to not her stuff but things everyone including us clients needs to hear from her. She walked into the office while Phelo Mphuti was assisting me n started yelling at one of the other staff members, afterwards she came to the desk where I was being help n without greeting started telling me how they need to do a background check since I was renting a pick up van. I asked what is it you want to know. And I started telling her where it work and stay but while I was telling her, she interrupted me n said we can't change the rules for u and I replied saying I didn't ask anyone to do that. She walked away while we were talking n a few minutes later came back n said to me I don't qualify since my credit score is low n I asked her what she meant n I went into my phone n I checked my credit score which came out at 605 n hers was saying 435.. I asked her which system she is using n she just looked at me n said you don't qualify n I left. That's the type of service I got from Woodford car rentals in Hilton hotel Sandton

Woodford Car Hire has the worst service in the car rental industry. I booked a Toyota Fortuner for 3 days, due to the specific needs I needed it for. I got a call in the morning of my collection date and got informed that I will be offered a VW Amarok. I informed the Woodford agent that I don't want the Amarok. On arrival to collect the vehicle that I booked I get told that they cannot find my booking. I informed the service desk agent look again, he looks again and says that there is a problem with my booking. He then tries to feed me some hogwash that their office tried to call me and I was not available. Not only did the company fail to honor my booking, the service agent at the Hilton Hotel is built to lie without blinking. Upon requesting my deposit I get informed that I will only get my money in 72 hours. I am grateful that I did not pay the full fee because I would have been forced to take a vehicle that would not fit my purpose. I guess that's how they win clients who are desperate. Luckily, I managed to get a car from Thrifty Car Rental that saved my day.

Prices are great but customer services is horrible. I saw just how bad their customer service was when I rented out a car for the period 28 May to 1 July and decided to return the vehicle early on the 12th of June that's 16 days I used the car, less than half the days of the original period I took it out for, so I expected to get back at least half of my rental charges back, but instead got basically a 5th of it back and when I asked for a breakdown of why this happened all I get is "we'll send it", "didn't you get it". So, if you plan to use Woodford, it's your choice, while their prices are great honestly, their service not so much. Update: Woodford Customer Service finally reached out and broke down why I only got a 5th of my initial rental back and that's because the great prices they charge are only great if you stay on the rental, you're charged a different rate if you cancel before the end of the rental period.

Horrible service. I booked a car a month in advance. The website said the car is available and ready. On the day of travel I get a call saying the whole fleet of cars of my choice is booked in for service and I was offered inferior options. At the same time I get a message from the apparent MD, saying they are available to assist but the number to go through. Needless to say I was in a crisis, fortunately another car hiring firm stepped in and sorted me out within an hour. I then advised the call center to cancel the booking. Hours later after my departure, I get a call saying my car of choice is Suddenly available. Clearly they were only moved after I canceled the booking. Absolute lack of communication and poor service. Wouldn't recommend these guys to anyone!! Even after canceling, I kept getting annoying whatsapp messages from them as if they had actually done their job!

I was severely disappointed. Woodford had become my go to car hire company. Understand that I booked and paid in full beforehand. I also enquired about an upgrade and that did add a little time. It took more than an hour to get the car I ordered! It took almost 10 minutes for someone to find a book to record the scratches on the car. The scratches were hard to identify because the car had not been cleaned well (and the driver’s seat was dirty). No-one offered to show me anything of the car and so I was left to figure out that drive and reverse were on the indicator arm. Also, notwithstanding that I paid what your site told me to, I was told that there was an additional fee of R57 to be paid. I want you to give me a convincing reason that I won’t have the same terrible service a second time before I use Woodford again. Lawrence Roff

I had an unsatisfactory time with Woodford in Sandton. Nice people with senses of humour, but their system seems to often be down, and this was the case the day I picked up my car. Thus, it took an hour and ten minutes to get my car. They knew I was driving to Cape Town and rented me nonetheless a very fuel consumptive one litre Kia Picante which I had to fill up with gas every two hours. It ended up costing a fortune because the RPM are so high when driving at higher end speeds on this car. I don't think it's a good car to be renting out for any purpose, but especially not to travel across the country in. However, my one was at least a very beautiful colour. Previously, Woodford had rented me an amazing car for the weekend but they had forgotten to give me back the deposit. I only received the deposit back by filing a complaint.

Woodford is great for getting an affordable car. However there are significant improvements to be made on customer service. Unfortunately they’re not willing to accept a card that does not have the customers name on it - something not clearly communicated when booking. The booking agent at the Sandton branch was dismissive, which did not make me feel like a valued customer. So we ended up not booking with Woodford and went to Europcar where we had no issue. I’ve also had an issue in my first (previous) booking in reaching someone from customer service (in the Cape Town brand) to extend the rental, which required me to drive to the location to action the extension. Overall, in terms of booking an affordable car - the service is excellent. However should you need guidance from customer service, you may have a difficult experience.

Absolutely disgusting service. I booked to hire an ldv WITH A LOCKABLE canopy. I spoke with THREE Woodford representatives about this, including Ridwaan at your Sandton outlet. On the day of collection, the ldv allocated to me had no canopy. Ridwaan simply said that he had made the note on the computer, and then became indifferent to the problem. A vehicle was then arranged to be sent fro OR Thambo Airport, and I was told that I'd have to wait an hour for it to arrive. We were flying out of SA the next morning, and I really didn't have the luxury to just stand around. At least the manager, Neren, took charge of the issue and apologised for their oversight. Ridwaan just couldn't care. His attitude incensed me to the point that I told him what I felt about his customer service. He is in serious need of some remedial training.

We collected and returned at different branches, and asked for assistance at a third, which allowed us to get a good picture of the outstanding level of service and client care that Woodford offers. At such a competitive price I was concerned about the quality of vehicle or efficiency and I was pleasantly surprised on both counts. Our booked vehicle was unavailable and the next closest similar vehicle of our choice was provided immediately. The car was clean and in excellent working order. We got lost at OR Tambo (who doesn't?) and the chap on the desk immediately accompanied me back to the car and navigated the airport roads for us and drove us to the rental return area. All in all a brilliant experience and highly recommended.

Pickup was easy enough (desk is inside the Sandton Hilton). Staff was polite. Car was in described condition but upon drop-off they never sent through the final invoice which thr check in clerk had promised (middle aged gentleman with dark complexion). I had taken photos and video of the vehicle at drop off and pickup as well as my petrol receipt in case there were any issues but none such arose (so far though I've seen reports of spurious charges being made months later). They did manage to email me the contract at pickup but never did so upon return and proceeded to spam me with multiple emails each week with marketing emails. I'll give them a pass if I need to rent in joburg again.

On 21 June 2023 which also happens to be my birthday, I was racially profiled by Mr Ridhwaan Batty - Regional Agent and Naren Chetty - Regional Agent. Even after giving them all my details, they refused to release a vehicle which I paid in the region of R7,500 to hire. According to Mr Chetty, "This is a very expensive vehicle", insinuating that I am a risk, plus I cannot afford such a vehicle. These two men are disgusting and a disgrace to society; people of colour beware. I will write a formal complaint to Woodford head office. Mr Batty is a coward who cannot even look you in the eye while he tells you some rubbish about risk management "laws" which support his prejudicial conduct.

Truly unprofessional! Do not go here. I have always had good experiences with Woodford, even rented a car from Cape Town last week and everything went smoothly. However this one is extremely disappointing. I have made a booking for a luxury car a week before the date. Called the location multiple times and not once they picked up the phone. The agent only called me ONE HOUR before the start of the booking to tell me the car is unavailable. I do not recommend anyone renting car with them, the agent was not even apologetic about the situation. If a car is unavailable to rent, they should remove it from the website as it is false advertising!!! Never going back with woodford!

The service was very good from Masindi and her team. The car itself was very clean and was a great drive. The only area of improvement I can point out is that for a first time user of the service the registration process was not really properly communicated, the required documentation for a first time user was not pre-communicated to me before arrival to pick up. As well as the type of bank cards that can be taken to secure the deposit. I recommend that since an sms/email/WhatsApp can be sent for updates, the documentation for first time users of the service can be either requested via these platforms or notice of the requirements of the profile set up.

Didn’t enjoy the experience at Hilton Hotel. Was early to collect the car. Found a guy working there. Told him my details and he said I should wait for the other lady who was still busy to finish. She did and then she asks me why did the other guy who was there not help me. She then told me after processing that the car I asked wasn’t available however there was an exact car given to another couple as I was waiting. Had to drive to the airport and change the car. Returned it promptly however am still waiting for my deposit which last time this wasn’t the case. Okay I’ll avoid that pickup as everything that day upset me and the staff didn’t do well

Call Centre and Sandton branch office say contradictory information, Sandton Branch Manager very rude and does not understand his own company policy OR TAMBO BRANCH there is a white short lady, who just does not give a flying kite about customers, she speaks like we are there at her house asking for food, lacks respect.... So I don't know what review you want. It was my first time making use of your services and defenately the last, I'd rather be subjected to recklessness of taxis! Please stop sending me these review messages cos, it just urks me and remind me of an awful experience e I had with your organisation. I give you a big fat 0/10

My experience at Hilton Hotel was horrific. Firstly I had to wait long to get attended. If that wasn’t enough. Even though I booked days in advance.When I got to Hilton Hotel Woodford at about 13:30, I was told they don’t have the car I booked. I had to then get on a Gautrain and go to the OR Tambo international Air Port branch. I’m Really unhappy with that sort of service. The guys at the airport were all amazing and very helpful and worked efficiently. No long waits and all friendly smiles. So please get that service sorted out at Hilton it’s unexceptionable.

I happy with the services I received, the staff was very friendly and welcoming, one thing I that disappointed me was that the person who was helping me with the booking discouraged me by saying they don't take cheque cards even if the website clearly stated they are welcome and even when I insisted I booked using the same card in the few weeks he still denied without trying but as I insisted he tried and found that it's working but other than that I'm happy with everything, their prices are very reasonable and lower deposit.

Did my booking online and everything was ok until the last day when I went to collect the car and was told that the system had blocked me from collecting the car because my last rental I was speeding above the limit. I paid R2500 for the speeding fine, I produced an affidavit so say that I was been chased/running away from hijackers but that didn't help me. So I say when we book online kindly check your qualifying criteria before raising our Hope's. Because now I was stranded

After having a good service with them I must say I'm very disappointed with Woodford Care Hire I paid a deposit for my car and haven't had the deposit repaid despite dropping off car 2 weeks ago. It has been a frustrating time calling them to return my deposit and still nothing, do yourself a favor and keep away from them, they will keep telling wait 24-48 hours and still nothing has been done for 2 weeks absolutely useless company!

I couldn’t rent vehicle because I didn’t have a credit card. No one advised me until I got there to collect vehicle. I think in this day and age the fact that you still need a credit card to hire a car is ridiculous. I offered to pay cash upfront but that was not accepted. There needs to be another way of securing payment besides a credit card because there are people who don’t like it have credit.

My Husband (Freddy Nyakula)hired a car from you. Toyota Urban Cruiser (Brown). It was not only dirty, but the drive was not smooth. This was clearly a car that had issues as my Husband mentioned to the guy handing over the car to him Friday morning. I hired the Toyota Ayga and I must say traveling long distance it was really a joy to drive. This rental company is trash! Stay away from them, a total waste of time. In 2023 they do not accept cheque card facilities for payment, what a joke! Steer clear! I am also still waiting for my deposit refund from them days after I had reserved a car and paid and was subsequently rejected when I arrived to collect. Total trash of a service provider.

We’ve been renting from Woodford since 2012. Our latest rentals were from OR Tambo and Hilton in Sandton. Both Collin at the airport and Ridwaan at the Hilton were excellent to work with and accommodated our needs. We’ve always received excellent service and price over the years, which has allowed us to be loyal customers.

Woodford has become my official go to rental car hire. Good experience, you know upfront how much deposit is being taken from CC and the amounts are not ridiculous. Staff are lovely. Only criticism is the time it takes when you collect the car. I've had two incidents where I've had to wait for them to fill up the car.

Great service from the off and had no issues. Had a great car and the service was really helpful throughout. I got a new car with the permit expiring during my rental, they had someone drive out to me to replace it. They were also the cheapest from all the agencies I checked defo considering taking them again.

I was 1,5h late on my return and you charged me a full day extra. This really isn't fair specifically since this wasn't pointed out to me on the rental agreement. And I was late do to traffic and loadshedding and failing infrastructure... Other rental companies normally have a grace period on returns.

Hidden charges everywhere. They all their dishonest best to keep you without your money - invent charges about nothing. They have strange fees like contract fee, location fee... And of course, you will never see again your deposit. Just deceivers. Approach to the customer like on indian bazaar.

For a rental company to still require a credit card in 2023 is ridiculous. Debits cards do the same job if not better. I had no issues renting a car with any of the rental companies at the airport with my debit card. Why is this mandatory? Do better or loose more business than just mine!

See less pick up and drop off, competitive pricing but every time we pick up the deposit amount is said to be R8000 instead of the R5000 as advertised on the booking site. We’ve always paid the R5k as per the advertising site but a bit annoying to have the same disagreement.

Booked a vehicle online and not only did they not have it, they said it's not part of their fleet. After that I tried to get my deposit back but no luck. They don't even respond to multiple emails. Stay well clear, Woodford Car Hire will leave you disappointed and poorer.

Car broke down and all my plans were canceled. Picked up the car around 2pm and by 5:30 I had done an unproductive 41kms, mostly just to get to the nearest garages. I received no apology from Woodford up to now. I just hope I won't struggle to get my refund back.

Rented a Benz GLB was given a haval as the GLB was not available and had to go in for a service. Got a 10% discount as compensation. Got toll road bills for places like Marika and brits that I have never been to. Very Dissapointing

Sandton branch: Excellent service! Friendly and helpful staff. No hidden costs. Cars are new. My holding fee/deposit was released within 24 hours - something competitors may take about 21 working days to do. I recommend them.

Took an hour to renew my contract which normally takes 5 minutes at the OR Tambo branch. Staff were not well versed with the operating system and could not provide answers for the extra charges. It's back to OR Tambo for me.

Woodford car hire, certainly have highly competitive rates coupled with a good range of standard and luxury vehicles. Airport pick up or the Hilton un Sandton make car collect or drop-off quick an convenient.

Be careful; after renting a car, for the next few days your credit card will be charged by Woodford without any information for what reason. Such methods are unacceptable.

Fairly easy pickup and drop-off. Good vehicle condition. Bottom line: used them because they were cheaper than the mainstream rental companies for a 200km/day 4x4 hire.
