I wouldn't recommend this vet sadly, it's very inflated cost-wise (they say it's because they are independent, but after comparing their prices with other independent vets, they are clearly massively inflating their costs), in bad condition, smells (even for a vet), unhygienic and the owner is absolutely awful and rude. I have been willing to accept the other bits for the last few months as the staff are usually very nice and it is on my doorstep. But after an encounter with the practice owner today I will never go back here. Please also scroll down to see other reviews about this woman in particular, she is clearly the problem at this surgery and I now understand why the vets is in such disarray because she is terrible at her job and clearly a nasty person. Despite the condition of the building and the hygiene elements, the staff here are usually absolutely lovely, always say hi to my cats and Simon the vet is also very helpful and informative. However, after ringing up today to ask about flea treatments I was met with some of the most shocking behavior I have ever had over the phone. I sadly had to explain that I couldn't afford the inflated cost of the two treatments my cats needed & enquiring about if there was another option such as a written prescription that I could then buy online to save costs in this difficult financial time. I was met with immediate anger and a barrage of being spoken over. She told that they were a small practice that had to inflate it's prices (which I have no problem with usually, and have been paying for over the last 4/5 months, but on the instance I needed an alternative) and eventually I was cut off and hung up on mid conversation. I had to ring back up and spoke to one of the normal staff, who advised very clearly on how I could get the prescription. I thanked her and added that I was actually very shocked by the way I had just been spoken to. The other woman then grabbed the phone of her "YOU'RE ON LOUDSPEAKER BY THE WAY" - like a 16 year old. And continued to shout out me saying she was the owner.... as if that makes things any better or somehow excuses her behavior. She told me I should find another vet, that she owned the business, that I was rude (ha!) and did not AGAIN allow me to say anything or express how her behavior had made me feel... which clearly shows the type of person she is. Feel really sorry for the staff here. The woman would do best to stay off the phones and focus on spending the insane money they charge you on cleaning up the place.

Responding to the terrible review I was actually at the practise at the time this issue arose and it is not as reported. Firstly there were 3 people with their dog when it clearly asks that only 1 member of the family come with their pet, secondly none of the persons were wearing masks as required. There had been an emergency so there was quite a delay in appointment times, but that is just unfortunate. The lady at reception only asked if she could take 1 chair for another customer who was waiting outside with her very poorly dog. She was not rude at all. The woman with her husband, daughter and dog took immediate offence and started to shout and hurl abuse and was swearing at the receptionist at the top of her voice. There was just no need for that sort of reaction and therefore they were asked to leave the practise. The only person who was disgusting that day was the woman with her dog. The sad thing is the dog was the one that suffered as he didn’t get to be seen by a vet which was the purpose of the visit. That lady and I use that term very loosely needs to rethink her social skills. If you treat people in the manner than she conducted herself you don’t get very far. Her behaviour was appalling and the receptionist at the practise did not deserve the abuse that was hurled at her. This is a true account of what happened that afternoon and the practise does not deserve the negative review which was posted. I have been visiting this vets for over 30 years and they have always been extremely caring, compassionate and very knowledgable in animal care and I wouldn’t take my dogs anywhere else

We visited here this evening and the staff were disgusting. I was ushered into a triage room with my dog. My wife an daughter was sat on a chairs in the waiting room when the owner came over and demanded she get up off the chair as there were paying customers waiting outside. my daughter being polite moved off the chair and sat on another chair right next to my wife. The owner then demanded she move from that chair again advising that there are paying customers outside. When my wife tried to explain that we are also paying customers the owner said that if you dont like it you can leave. When my wife started to explain that this is no way to treat any customer the owner began shouting for to leave. I then came out of the triage room to see what was taking place and the male vet was about to attempt to man handle my wife out of the property. The male vet and the owner continued to shout abuse at my wife and as my wife did not back down from them the abuse became more vocal making a huge scene as we exited the veterinarians. I for one will never visit this vet again no matter how desperate I am. I would rather pay triple the charge than be treated like this!

Staff are friendly and informative. Great service....I wrote this review around 2 years ago....I dont know if there has been change in staff or what but the receptionists are extremely rude. I came in to weight my cat for some tapeworm medicine and the girl at the front literally made me wait 45 minutes. I understand that these places can get busy and I am a very patient person (evidently, since i waited 45 minutes to get my cats weight). I would completely understand if she was doing something that required me to wait but honestly she was just talking to her friend and walking around. I finally gave them a look and looked at the time and she came to weight my cat which took no longer than 2 minutes!! The actual vet is nice, however the receptionists are seriously rude.

Lady saying she was the owner was awful to me. I called to cancel an appointment because I was unable to catch the poorly stray cat that I've been feeding. She was totally unsympathetic and shamed me telling me she'd turned away sick animals and i couldnt have another appointment, then unbelievably started to mock me!! when I said I was surprised by her unhelpful shocking attitude, she actually sarcastically repeated my words in a silly sing song voice!! Maybe vets are under a lot of strain with covid but i'm this was appalling and this lady is not mentally fit to be a vet.

I wouldn't take a bull breed back there, if that's the way they're treated and the owners being told we're the reason for back yard breeding, seems to be the same person who drags the whole place down, my dog was so poorly after visiting here I took him to another vet and had a right drama getting his history from here delayed his jabs and he had to start the course all over again. After seeing the same type of comments made to other bulldog owners it seems they're just not a liked breed, shame because my staffy is such a lovely boy!

Small building. Very old looking inside. But dont let that put you off. The vets are truly animal focused. They talk you through what needs to be done. Some people have said that the vers are rude and un-polite. Like I said they are animal focused and I've been there when some people deserve it. They have been very polite when I've brought a pet in. The prices are quit affordable. The reception staff are polite and friendly and helpful as well. Overall it's how the pets are treated that matters and this vets do look after your pet.

Our little Yorkshire Terrier Jake was recently put to sleep following 11 years of the best care you could ever wish for, Simon and his team always have the best interests of the animal at heart and always went what we felt was above and beyond in the care provided. The staff are also simply outstanding. Jakes final hour was peaceful with us in a seperate room affording both us and him dignity and quiet time. In our opinion they are all simply wonderful and we cannot praise the team at Acorn enough. Thank you from us and from Jake.

I have used this vet surgery with my prior pet. They would go above and beyond to ensure his health was at its finest. Always happy to help in a struggle. Extremely compassionate & kind staff. My current pet is registered at a different surgery, although they are fully booked. So I called Acorn to see if they would see her. Unfortunately they are not taking on new patients although the lady I spoke with on the telephone could not have helped me or advised more . Such a kind , helpful and caring lady . Thank you

The best vets I have ever been to... best in the world. The staff are so caring and helpful and what I love the most is they remember, they know your little loved ones inside and out and can recollect issues from years ago. They really are wonderfull and I cannot praise them enough for all the help and support over the years... Simon in particular... taking your pet to the see the vet is a stressful time, but the staff always make this much easier to cope with... they really do a great job!

Our family had the experience of having our lovely dog called Charlie put to sleep after a long life of over 15 years old he was a cross German shepherd he had problems with his back legs and was in pain the service we got from accorn vets was brilliant though we wouldn't want to go through that again iff we do get another dog we would want accorn to look after the dog thanks for your lovely treatment and very caring people would recommend this vets to anyone

Just tried ringing , about an urgent matter about my 12 week old not breathing properly and sounds like it’s chocking every few minutes and the woman said on the other end of the phone, that it’s only for road traffic accidents on Saturdays ? and then put the phone down , I tried to ring back to get more info and she kept putting the phone down on me , I was nothing but polite , This is disgusting behaviour by a member of staff , would not recommend this vet

Myriam and the girls took wonderful care of Hector, my English Bull Terrier yesterday. Even though he was put to sleep and had a tooth removed he looked like he enjoyed himself and didn't want to leave :) Everything is explained, there are no nasty or costly surprises, and it turned out cheaper than quoted. When does THAT ever happen?! Well worth the hour drive over! Our beloved furry family members are in great hands with this team

I absolutely couldn't recommend this surgery enough to anyone. Simon and his team are fantastic; knowledgeable, professional and really friendly. They put me at ease and really look after my animals. They don't try and capatalise on your pets being unwell either, the prices are more than reasonable. I hope the staff know how much of a difference they make and how grateful myself, Lenny, Oscar and Cookie are ♥️

Had a horrible experience with the mature women receptionist....very rude and abrupt towards customers. No polite manners and has made my experience here very unpleasant. Very intimating and sly remarks. Such a shame as the vets always looked after my dog well but the receptionist has given us such a bad experience that I definitely won’t be returning and will taking my business else where

This place is disgusting… only in it for the money did a spay on a dachshund and a blind person with no arms coins have done a better job… they’ve also failed to take stitches out… it’s day12 now… they won’t see her to check she’s ok…and then shout at you down the phone including the vet!! Recently took my cat in after he had had a fight with another cat. Receptionists were all very helpful. The vet Simon is a total professional and very good at his job. Would highly recommend this surgery as they truly care about animals and their owners. My cat smokey is back to his old self again. Thank you to all the staff at Acorn.

Tara is the most amazing vet. She worked with us and nothing like other vets. She tried her hardest to care for our dog over the years. She went way beyond the care of duty to help our elderly dog. The nurses are absolutely the sweetest most caring people . My dog has passed but if we didnt have Tara he could have passed much earlier.

Went to acorn vets today the place was full had people watein outside for 30 mins plus took a 3 week old puppy to be seen and the receptionist snatched the puppy from us and walked off and then was very rude and there was no need for it as I wasn't being rude in eney way to her very disappointed and won't be returning there ever!!!!!!

The best Veterinary surgery in the area by far. Genuine compassion for all the animals that come here, doesn't charge over the moon or push unneeded medication or unhelpful treatments. Only what is needed to help your animal! 10/10 highly reccomend. All of my animals over the years have come here and that won't ever change.

Acorn is a wonderful establishment and only offers the very best treatment and care for pets. Over the years, I have had numerous dogs visit the practice and couldn’t recommend them enough. Shocking place my frenchie was with them having breathing problems just getting palmed off saying it’s all normal now with another vets to find out she has pneumonia and fluid on the lungs how can a vets misplace such an illness disgusting place would never ever recommend also the man who owns it is arrogant

Simon has looked after all my animals for many years. He is a genuine animal lover - amazing concerning dog behaviour too. Im glad this isnt my vets. The receptionist (Welsh female, as she cerrainly wasn't a lady!!) Was extremely rude, who didnt listen and got the wrong end of the story, and proceeded to give me false information. Dont think she is in the right job!!!! Hooefully the rest of the staff aren't like her

I've been bringing my dogs and cats to Acorn for many years now.. excellent & compassionate service as always from Simon & the girls..they looked after my little elderly Westie Heidi as an all day inpatient for 3 days last week & nothing was too much trouble.I always feel she is in safe hands.

Reception staff are super-friendly and Simon is a great vet. Never tries to dismiss your fears, never tried to upsell you things you don't need. Happy to handle unusual requests like when a new landlord asked for a vet's reference before we moved in with our cats. Can't ask for better.

My kitten had a reaction from his vaccine. (administered elsewhere) Simon couldn't have been kinder, understood exactly what to do and was very supportive, kept him in overnight to make sure everything was OK. Staff were lovely as well. Would definitely recommend.

Amazingly kind vets who seem to genuinely care about the animals. I found they were refreshingly not totally driven by money but by compassion. Thankyou for helping me out in a very difficult situation with my dad’s cat recently when dad was admitted to hospital.

I would give it less stars if possible. My mates was begging for her little dogs nails to be trimmed for ages, it was never done causing it to become imbedded and cause infection. It costs a fortune to have the dog trimmed and yet they still didnt even do that.

I have been trying to call the vets and keep getting hung up on. Unprofessional receptionist and was rude on the phone and hung up on me called back and a different person answered and did the same. Very unhappy about this service and will not be calling back.

Brilliant place. My dog Tia is nervous beyond belief, Simon has a way where he can make her comfortable and he doesn't fuss. He does things quickly and efficiently and at a very respectable cost. I for one would not go anywhere else with Tia!!

Ive used Acorn for over 10 years. Our rescue dog went in to get spayed, she made a great recovery, her scar is absolutely minimal, healed so well. Simon and Becky are wonderful with animals

Great staff but Simon is unhygenic, sorry to bring this up it's very rude but the smell was rather overpowering, maybe some1 could have a chat to him about it, could loose good customers
