This place has a lot of charm to it. It's a bit of a throwback, San Francisco stylish. The biggest selling point is that they serve a full bar menu , food, popcorn, snacks with waiter service to your seat. It's kind of a sweet set up. You just write down what you want on a piece of paper , press a button that turns on a little light , and they come by and take your order. Then they deliver the drinks and food to your seat. It's a really fun way to see a movie. On the other hand, my gripe is that from a practical perspective, for me it's more comfortable to go to a Century theater with luxury loungers like the one in Novato because the seats are more comfortable and fully recline. I found the seats in this theater to be firmer, and after three hours of Oppenheimer my butt was asleep. I found myself looking up at the screen due to the layout. . So it's really a choice between choosing a theater with more comfortable seats, or going with the creature comforts of food and alcoholic beverages delivered to your seat. If the whole experience matters to you and you like to be waited on at the movies, this is an awesome theater. If you care less about that, and you’re more DIY on the food and beverage , and care more about reclining seats that are more comfortable then you may want to go to a more conventional theater. It was still a very fun experience.. by the way, we saw Oppenheimer in 70 mm at this theater, but that was not IMAX format. 70 mm all about the perspective and the 70 mm IMAX is what I heard was the way to go for this particular movie. I didn’t actually realize that until after I saw the movie.

Alamo Drafthouse is my Absolute Favorite movie theater brand ever. The Alamo Drafthouse Cinema New Mission is the best movie theater in San Francisco by far. Located at 2550 Mission Street in the Mission District, Alamo is easily accessible via public transit (Bart or Muni). One of my favorite things about Alamo is their free movie rewards program entitled Victory Rewards. It’s easy to sign up, and you get points for every movie you see. Their are tiers to the Victory Rewards program and the higher you go (more movies you see), the better the rewards. Also, all Victory members get a free movie ticket on their birthday. One of my other favorite things about Alamo are the Terror Tuesday and Weird Wednesday films. These are late night movies (10 pm - 12 am), normally classics movies, which are perfect for any cinephile, and the tickets are half price ($6 - 8). Lastly, what sets Alamo apart is the Gourmet food that they serve during the movies. You can still get your basic movie food like popcorn and soda, but, you can also get milkshakes, alcoholic beverages, and movie inspired dishes. If you’re not in a movie mood, you could also visit their in house bar, “Bear vs. Bull.” You can get a cosmopolitan, jack on rocks, or any of your favorite drinks while you chat in an intimate movie environment. You’ll find classic and large Bruce Lee movie posters plastered over the lobby, which is an awesome touch! Overall, this is a GREAT PLACE to visit. GO VISIT THIS PLACE!

Worst theater ever! Less than 10mins late, they don’t let you in. My friend who got in first said it’s still playing ads/trailers. The opprehenmier ticket is too hard to get and I’m leaving the country soon and prob never going to see it on a big screen. They claim that it’s because they don’t want any disturbance. Sure I understand if it’s during the movie play. The policy wasn’t obvious. It’s our first time here and I didn’t know it exists, my friend who bought the ticket also wasn’t aware of it neither. They were super strict about it. There were another couple who hired a nanny for the night and drove 50+mins to see the movie but got rejected outside as well. This theater doesn’t have any humanity at all. Anything can happen that prevents ppl from arriving on time, traffic, parking, work, kids etc Plus the movie theater wasn’t full, only 80% capacity, all the seats on the back were empty. If they worry about disturbance, they can let ppl who comes late to sit in the back and it wouldn’t impact others. The most ridiculous thing is that they disclaim that the policy is to prevent disturbance but they have waiters running around in the theater all the time. SF is such an open and full of love city. It stands out because of how openminded and welcoming it is. I’m so sad to see a theater like this lacking of humanity exists in the city. I encourage you to not go and support this business

Alamo Drafthouse Cinema New Mission Theater is a fantastic place to catch a movie. They have food and drink service respectively though the show which does not interfere with the cinematic experience. The food and drinks are great for date night and often change based on the movie or event theme. Additionally if you're just up for drinks and a bite to eat, the bull and bear bar is hidden away below the theaters and open to the public - movie ticket or not. The prices are reasonable here for some top whiskey pours if you know what you're looking for and the bar serves a (limited?) food menu. Two pro-tips: 1) the stairwell up from the bear and bull bar will lead you to an oasis of pinball machines just begging to be played. Coin change machines at hand. (And extra restrooms if the situation calls) 2) When watching a movie, especially sequels or prequels, come early for the opening preamble to get expert insight and valuable facts about the film during the pre-opening credit commercials. My only gripe is they removed the GLORIOUS chilidog from the theater food menu. I won't remove a star rating as I am sure the theater had their reasons, however if at all possible PLEASE bring the chili dog back to its adoring public!! #free-the-chilidogs

I've been a member of the Alamo theater for over a year now, and I've had a mixed bag of experiences. On one hand, the original theater is absolutely gorgeous. The architecture and design ooze charm. The food options are pretty good overall, although do feel a bit limited after a while. The Weird Wednesday program is also a standout of this theater, showcasing an array of odd movies. However, the theater seems to be constantly showing Marvel movies, which often lock up multiple screens for empty theaters. To make matters worse, when I reached out to the programming department to voice my concerns, they informed me that their contracts with Marvel prevent them from showing other movies during those times. Indeed there is rarely much else showing when Marvel films are playing. This feels like a disservice to the diverse tastes of their audience. I love the Alamo theater, but I think they should let other theaters show Marvel movies, and focus on their strengths. There's so much potential for this theater to truly set itself apart from others, but it's being bogged down by these restrictive contracts. I hope to see some changes in the future that will truly elevate the Alamo experience.

My date and I purchased the two furthest seats together in the top right corner. It was immediately awkward. He had his very own table on the far right side of him against the wall that I couldn't reach. So, we couldn't share food. I had to share a tiny table with a stranger. There was no room for my food since they ordered pizza with multiple drinks, so instead of ordering what I wanted to eat, I opted for finger foods that I could keep on my lap. I ordered fish and chips and an ice tea. My date ordered the same. This was basically frozen fish sticks from Trader Joe's with soggy french fries. I was starving and ate some of the fish which tasted off and ordered popcorn for dinner. I was up all night with stomach issues that I will spare you from. The movie was great but the uncomfortable seats were not accommodating for 3.5hrs movie. Also, I couldn't see all of the screen over the container on the table holding papers, pens and my neighbors drinks. The whole experience cost us $120. I gave two stars because knowing the layout and what to expect, there's hope for a better experience if I ever go back and the theater has some cool stuff in it like merch, an arcade and a bar.

I hadn’t been here since the times before Covid, but I visited tonight to see Oliver Stones Nuclear Now film. It was reassuring to get the confirmation email asking me to be on time, and a stern warning that no talking or texting would be tolerated. I remember this location as so much nicer than average theaters because of that. Unfortunately the experience in reality didn’t live up to the expectations they set, and those I remember. There were four stools setup at the front for a q and a after the movie. The problem was that they were blocking the bottom part of the screen if you were in the first two rows, and hence one couldn’t read the subtitles for any of the translations. It got worse when a cabal of apparently inebriated nuke bro-fans decided to yell out wooo hoo every time they showed an operational nuclear reactor. There was an usher in the theater; he checked my ticket when I sat down. But he let the peanut gallery keep disturbing the audience every ten minutes. I really hope the Alamo staff takes this feedback and makes an effort to recreate the great experience they were known for.

Super fun! Took my employees for our annual "thank you" holiday outing for one of their seasonal movie nights (Gremlins), and we had a great time. Staff are all totally awesome - you can tell they're genuine film/theater people which REALLYmade a difference from start to finish. Great service, decent food & drinks selection with vegan and gluten-free options. Clean, upgraded theater, comfortable seating, cool table concept, technically a good/solid screeing experience. I'm a Bay Area native that grew up going out to indie art movie theaters every week, and I love that they saved a historic theater with this concept. Everyone had a great time! So glad this business survived the pandemic. It was the first time most of us had ever been there, and I'd recommend it! I'll be returning, hopefully, with credits/rainchecks with those tickets that I purchased for those employees that didn't make it. I worked at a small, very special movie art theater during my college years and studied film in college; my husband has worked in film as an artist for almost 30 years, and we really enjoyed the experience.

Everyone should go to an Alamo at least once; it’s a truly fun filmgoer experience. The seats are comfortable and the service set-up is premium if you consider it’s a dark, loud, packed, theater. Sound quality could be better—it’s not an imax experience—but it blows away any other mainstream theater around (looking at you Japan town AMC). Compared to other movie theaters, this is a dream. Prices are decent, beer delivered right to you and not for an insane markup, killer selection of screenings, and the aesthetic of the entire thing is pretty awesome. Love me some giant, old-school, Bruce Lee posters from the days when they were hand painted. While they don’t spotlight small indie stuff like Balboa or Vogue does, Alamo is always my first choice for new or cult classic movies when I’m doing a “night out” with some friends or the wife. There is occasionally applause and the laughter gets loud, so if you want a solo experience without the bells and whistles, just hit a smaller theater. All in all, my favorite theater for the entire experience.

Last night my girlfriends and I watched the Renaissance film by Beyoncé at Alamo and the experience makes us never want to return. The seating is very small and not made for big people. It’s poorly designed because you have to literally squeeze out from the seat because of the small gap between the seats and the tables. I appreciate the swiftness of the concierges during the film, but once they bring out your food/drinks they never return! That’s a huge problem for a customer who pays for unlimited popcorn and soft drinks! We never got our refills on any of the unlimited purchases and the popcorn was cold! Me being overly excited about them having Beyoncé merch for sale resulted in me buying all of it. The killer part was having to pay an additional $8 for a Sprite after paying $20 for a souvenir cup. WHO CHARGES YOU FOR A SOUVENIR CUP AND THEN EXTRA FOR THE DRINK? Charging $8 for a fountain drink is such a huge ripoff!!!

  • Sean Miller

Fantastic cinema! Retro design with modern amenities. Seats are very comfortable. Excellent acoustics and viewing angles from almost every seat. Seeing a movie here is a slightly different experience than an average theater since it is very centered around drinks and food. This is great because the food and drinks selection is unlike any theater I've ever been to - there are all sorts of tasty meals and snacks as well as a robust craft beer menu and all sorts of fantastic other drinks - but I found it can also distract from the movie a little bit. There are also lights underneath every pair of seats that seem to not go out at all throughout the movie which was a bit distracting too. But for me the pros still vastly outweighed the cons and will definitely be coming back here to catch another flick! Last thing to note: the popcorn is an absolutely enormous serving and probably takes at least 2-3 people to finish it off!

I picked Alamo to go and see Avengers: Endgame because I would be in this city on release weekend. I go to Alamo in my home state and this one was a bit different. The building is an old theater that has been rehabilitated back to its glory. There are only a few screens and they are the old theater setup instead of stadium seating. There is still enough room to walk and to get your food but I am reminded of when all theaters had the slanted floors. The place is beautiful. A lovely display of movie and theater history is there to tempt the pocketbook. Alamo also produces a limited edition book/magazine of major and historic movies. I spent some money there walking away with information on Jurassic Park, Avengers, and Star Trek. A lovely place and a good time. My food was prompt, fresh, hot, and tasty. My milkshake was divine as it always is at Alamo.

This place was super cool! Do buy your tickets in advance online when I went most movies were sold out (it was Saturday though) and I was lucky that there was one seat left for Teenage mutant ninja turtles ... Anyway I'm from a small city and when I went here I was looking for the section where I can buy food, I couldn't find it so I went inside to sit and watch the movie when I noticed you order your food while you wait for the movie to start. The man who helped me order was very polite! And my drink and pretzel were delicious! I had a great experience here and will definitely come back, service was fast too. I was surprised how well they manage that place, they bring everyone's food and drinks pretty quick. Keep in mind there're several movies playing.

  • Samantha Koppel

We were originally going to see a double feature here but the server at the bar (Bear vs. Bull) was a bit unfriendly before our first show. We were a little disappointed with that service and didn’t want to stay for several hours. The show itself (from the custom previews to the service during the film) was phenomenal. It was such a fun experience. The food was also top notch (an excellent thin crust pizza, the queso was unbelievable, and the milkshakes—we had the triple chocolate and malted Mexican vanilla—were divine). But our seats were a bit uncomfortable. The front row would be fine if you aren’t sitting on the far end. We will go back so long as we can get good seats and hopefully a different bar tender will be serving!

This is the place to go if you're a movie fan. The one star reviews are from the people that the policies intend to keep out (movie talkers, people who arrive late, etc). Alamo has a great app that's easy to use which adds to the experience. You walk right to your seat. Customer service is always excellent. Food quality and member perks have gone down in the past few years since the company is struggling a bit but nevertheless Alamo Drafthouse is an excellent experience and a treat to still have around. I love being able to see classic films on the big screen with a cold beer or cocktail and have it be quiet the whole time. Also Purple Star MD is right down the street so you can also get nice and toasty before your movie. :)

I find the experience of combining a dining experience with a movie to be appealing. The system for ordering food is pretty good but we did experience part of our order being dropped. If they bring the check and you are missing something, then be sure to let them know right away. The theaters have reserved seating and some have a limited number of seats. This can make it harder to get into a showing but does give a more private feeling. You can also book a whole theater if you have a group that you want to see a movie together. They also rent movies up front and have a couple of classic arcade games. There's a bar and a collection of pinball games. Staff was friendly and accommodating. The popcorn is unlimited and excellent!

  • T'Andre White

Legit movie theater that offers a $30 monthly season pass. They play some unique films as well. Ticket prices vary from $9 up to $25. It’s kind of ridiculous, but with the season pass, that’s all ignored. It’s definitely a “bang for my buck”. The food options are fun and you can get some good bites out of the food. Bottomless popcorn is cool, but sometimes I miss that classic “movie theatre” popcorn, that this fancy theater doesn’t offer. You can get alcohol if that’s your thing. I’ve never once seen them kick someone out for talking/texting and this theatre STAYS letting people in after the showtime. No biggie, but I’ve definitely noticed. I guess this type of theatre isn’t for everyone, but it’s local and I love it.

  • Emilee Bargoma

The lobby is gorgeous and the bar/lounge is such a cool hangout. Loved the personal service for the food and drinks. Food is pricey, so just prepare for that and to enhoy the movie/food/drink experience. The wonderful individual who provided our wait service is Jamala. They were a prime example of great service that was genuine and intentional, not superficial. So we loved that. Thank you, Jamala. Our dinner was the artisan beef/blt burger with green chile (yum!), regular burger, pineapple IT cocktail, ginger beer, pickle fries, and very generous serving sizes of their french fries. It was a good time!Oh, and we were there to watch The Woman King. This was the right cinema to do just that!

  • Leland Jones

The attendant condescendingly rushed me into the theater, citing the remaining *11 minutes* in previews until the feature began. Then yelled again for me to enter as I was going to use the restroom before entering the theater. Once in there, they're eager to tell you about their special mechanism to snitch on a neighbor for disturbing the sanctity of the movie-going experience. A tech-sullied cinema experience, outfit with pretentious attendants and a cop-like atmosphere. Not everyone wants buffalo wings and a Manhattan at the movie. If we want to show up in the final minutes of previews and just watch the movie, let us! Save your money, go to the Roxie instead.

  • Kevin Chavez

This cinema is a real neighborhood gem. The atmosphere, the decor, the full service menu, and all the little touches they put really add to the moviegoing experience. You can really get immersed into a movie here. I thought the staff was very friendly and like ninjas whipping through the aisles, barely noticeable, providing food and refreshments to the patrons as discreet as possible. I watched Once Upon a Time in Hollywood in 70mm film and let me tell you, it was a welcome experience to see film grain again. I really enjoy this theater, the seats are plush, the angles are great, and the vibe that it gives off really make this a place worth visiting.

New manager sucks. I’ve been coming here for over 6 years now. However, last week I was planning to watch a film and got in on time. 15 minutes before the film started. My boyfriend got stuck in Bart due to the earthquake causing him to be 10 minutes late. The manager would not let him in. I came out of the theater and I was told that they have a strict late policy. They explained that it was because they didn’t want to disturb anyone while looking for our seats. I had already been in the room and knew where we were sitting. The manager was very rude and condescending. I love the ambiance, the concept and the food. But costumer service is lacking.

  • Jaimi Parsons

Very comfortable small theatre inside a huge building. Seats only 45 I think? Maybe it was 25. Very intimate. Each seat has a mini table with a menu in front. You can order drinks a food! So handy. One thing I didn't like was, I'm fairly short, the table cut off the view of the bottom of the movie screen. Not the worst thing in the world but distracting. But, hey! I had a drink and snack in front of me. The gigantic, elegant building had pinball in nearby public areas, by the bathrooms. There were many theatre withobie choices. Then there was a giant bar on the floor level in the back. Totally beautiful. I look forward to going back!

  • Jarod Maginot

***EDIT 3 years later***Used to be a great place but has drastically go down. They changed many of their food products lately to a lower quality and have really cut down on portion sizes. Highly recommend you eat before or stick to something easy on the menu. Then there's also the ticketing situation. Lately even a month out it has been hard to get a ticket. You'll select you movie and many of the tickets will already be taken or it looks like the theater is going to be packed but when you actually get to the showing most of those previous blocked off seats are suddenly open (just seems like a lot of people not showing up I guess)

  • Patty Castillo

It was my first time there. My daughter took me on a Tuesday & it was half price. Instead of being $18, it was $9 dollars. They have a little bar, and a cool pinball machine room, on the second floor. We ordered the bottomless popcorn and bottomless soda. We also ordered the chicken tenders with fries. They were large pieces and Delicious! It was served with a side of ketchup and this slightly spicy sauce for the tenders. Yes, it's a little pricey. But, you spend the same amount at theaters, for mediocre food and snacks. I highly recommend you go there. It's a beautiful theater. It brought back so many memories for me.

  • Scott Olsen

Alamo Drafthouse consistently provides a high-quality viewing and dining experience. Everyone has different expectations when it comes to what the ideal theater experience looks and sounds like. For me, Alamo's insistence on quiet, focused viewing of each film is a refreshing change of pace from what many modern theaters look like, free of full blown conversations and rampant cell phone usage. Moreover, their food and drink selections are delicious and reasonably priced for the area. My partner and I have been coming here for the last five years and will almost certainly continue returning for at least as long.

  • Layla Chamberlin

Supremely awful late policy. They are SO strict about being even 5 minutes late and they will make you leave. We waited 1.5 hours in traffic trying to make it early, showed up 5 minutes late and were told at the door that our pre-paid tickets were no good and we had to go home. Usually love this theater for the movie selection but their absolutely intolerable late policy and rudeness honestly made me change my opinion. Movie theaters shouldn’t be exclusive spaces that stop dedicated, movie-loving patrons from seeing the films they made the journey to see. We’re taking our money elsewhere, bye

  • Jc Chavez

This place is impressive. I was surprised with how large it is inside. The bar atmosphere incites you in with its sultry attitude. Upstairs we enjoyed a few rounds of nostalgic pinball. Seating for the movie started about 30 min prior. I highly recommend arriving early. That way you can get familiar with the layout and order food/drinks. The food was and drinks were amazing. That Truffle popcorn is an absolute must! The vibe of the theater and patrons were perfect. If you find going to a typical theater a lackluster experience full of obnoxious people then try this place. You wont be disappointed.

  • a g

This place is a hoot! When booking a film here keep in mind this theatre is more of a restaurant that plays a film while you're there. You can order anything from craft cocktails to deep fried pickles and the milkshakes are awesome! I found it really distracting to have a bunch of servers running around the theater to pick up orders and drop off food, but if you're going to see the film a second time or with a group of friends this would only add to the fun! There's also a hip bar just beyond where you pick up your tickets which is the perfect place to grab a drink before the movie

  • Renée J

Great experience, especially in the historic looking Theater 1. Seating: pretty comfy, sharing a table with the seat next to you, plenty of leg room even with the waiters coming in Service: 10/10, the waiter was responsive, and the box office was really helpful with a ticket refund when one of my friends got Covid. Menu: lots of options, decent vegetarian selection, great cocktails. 4 stars instead of 5 only because my avocado toast was something I’d expect at an airport. I’d come back to drink & have some upgraded snacks during a movie but wouldn’t come on an empty stomach.

  • Ellie MacBride

My main squeeze movie spot. I’m here pretty much weekly, catching some traveling indies or a “$9 Tuesdays” flick. Not to brag, but I’m pretty sure I have “Commandant” status, tho I don’t really know what that means. As a solo theatre-goer, I do wish there were more tables for singles, as it can feel a lil intimate to set my vegan buffalo cauliflower on the same table a stranger’s oversized popcorn bowl or select the only 1-top available next to a wheelchair companion. But my choosing to experience the theatre alone is more a “me problem,” so not docking any stars for that.

  • Louis Sanchez

Honestly an okay movie theater. Everything is over priced and mediocre but at least not bad. I did lose my wallet there today and unfortunately the managers were on a sad power trip and wouldn't allow to go the seat where I lost the item because a movie was playing. Instead they thought it was a good idea to ask me to come back an hour later at 9:30pm through mission(not the most friendly of place after dark) to look through my seat. How anyone would think that's a good idea or good customer service is beyond me. I didn't argue w them but it did leave a sour taste.

  • Melissa Stern

DO NOT SIT ON AN AISLE if you want to enjoy the movie. The food runners run up and down constantly and it's super distracting! I've sat in a center seat before and it's great, I hardly noticed it, therefore the 4 stars. But they make a big deal about not letting people be on their phones and then interrupt constantly with the deliveries. I got a refund and the guy said they don't get that complaint? Pros: the curated preshow videos and the lack of commercials that take up 30 minutes at a regular theater. Cons: the aforementioned constant food running.

  • Ham burglar

I'm a darn big Alamo Drafthouse fan and every trip i do, I must go see a flick at the Alamo ! Whilst i enjoyed the funkiness of this location, you quickly realize its not a new locaiton they built, but a takeover of a really old theater. I actually wnhoyed the idea ,untill we sat in the movie. My big and only complaint as how froggin hot it was. The theater itself is enormous so my guess is there AC was on the fritz. I can take some heat, but it was so unbearable we had to leave esrly and get a raincheck. The drinks were awesome and the food was so so

  • Geoff “DefGeoff” Nahashon

A great place to see a movie! I've been to the Austin location and this one definitely turns everything up to 11. The venue is amazing! The old, refurbished, theater building really gives the Castro theater a run for it's money. The only downside is the price; you pay the same whether or not your seat is great or neck wrenching. So buy your tickets well in advance for the best chance at a 5 star experience. PS: Make sure whatever you are going to see is on screens 1, 2, or 3 as the rooms tend to get smaller as the number increases.

  • Giulia Colombo

This plays suck. 15minutes late and they don’t let you enter! Is ridiculous… everybody pray to find immediately a parking spot because if not, forget about the movie, forget about your friend already inside, forget about your programmed evening….. This is the city guys…. People get stuck at work here, there is traffic all over around and, as a nice plus, parking in Mission area is impossible. I’ll never go anymore. This is a very bad and UNFRIENDLY place. Change this idiot policy guys!!!!!!! Is a movie theater not the OPERA HOUSE

  • N “Knickerbocker” Márquez

I just recently saw a movie here. The movie not so good. The Royal with Cheese was absolutely delicious. It came with french fries. I had it with some wine and later I ordered a coke. I enjoy eating during a movie so for an appetizer I ordered mozzarella sticks which I thoroughly enjoyed and then ordered the Royal with Cheese. My least favorite part out inside of the movie that I was the service but I do not feel I should take any stars away from that. I recommend spending the extra money and watching a movie here.

  • Nate Rock

Evidently originated in Austin TX, this place brings back the vibe of the true Cinema experience with a slight twist on the convenience of food/drinks. We saw one of the only two directors cuts of The Abyss here for our first major feature. Decent beer and food selection. The second film we watched was a dark movie in the same genre of Heart of Darkness or Lord of The Flies called MONOS. Service for both was outstanding! I wish we had one of these in Chicago near west loop/Fulton market... *wink*

  • C.

Nice, huge theater. Other spaces and activities happening besides movies like an arcade. Theater was nice, the lights were dim enough not to distract from the film. Unfortunately, a lot of the food items on the menu weren’t available like the lemonade and some of the milk shakes. There was also less candy snacks than a regular theater, surprisingly. And expect to see servers walking back and forth, it’s part of the experience, they are delivering orders.

  • Lynda Anne Art

Alamo Drafthouse will spoil other movies theaters for you forever. I can no longer consider going anywhere to see a movie where I can’t get a cocktail, appetizers, a full dinner, popcorn by the bowlful, dessert and just a full entertainment experience along with a great flick. They raised the bar and changed the movie going experience forever for me. Plus the venue is absolutely old school beautiful. They don’t make theaters like this anymore.

  • Cooper Wright

DON’T BE LATE!! You will not be allowed into the movie once it starts. They provided a refund, but the guy in front was so rude telling me and my GF about their “strict code of conduct”… sorry, i was just running late don’t hate on me! That was not a great experience (hence 3 stars) but I’ve seen movies here before and it’s fun. Expensive tickets and food, and a bit of a gimmick, but cool for a date or if you’re in the mission.

  • Joseph Y

This is a classic old movie theatre that runs b/w movie clips and some newer ones that bridges decades of entertainment past to today. You order food/snack and drinks to your seat and get ready for the main feature. It is relaxing and winding down place after daily hustling and bustling busy tech-dominated life. In the middle of the Mission District, it offers great access without a need for driving to get there.

  • jay bagade

Alamo drafthouse is a fantastic movie theatre and the best that I have been to. They play latest movies as well as old movies. Their collection of old movies is really good and they choose only the best ones, with a wide variety. In addition to movies the alcohol and the food menu is also great! The service is great and they can take your order in between the movie without disturbing anyone. Highly recommended!

  • Peter Rivas

Love the old quirky atmosphere the theater emotes. You're greeted with an old-school vibe. You have pinball machines on the second floor an arcade and dvd/record stand on the first. Love the idea of ordering food from your seat but often times the ushers weaving in and out can be distracting. The food is a bit pricey but what isnt in San Francisco. Overall, you'll enjoy the uniqueness of this theater.

This place is awesome!! If the gorgeous details of the theater don’t tickle your fancy, maybe the bar will? Perhaps the book signings and Q&A’s they host might be better for you. We had a great time here. The service was prompt and without issue. They worked as a well oiled machine. Never missing a ticket or drink. I couldn’t get over the gorgeous building. You won’t regret watching a film here.

Unique cinema experience with service available right at your seat. The food is amazing and delicious, we had fries and chocolate milkshake. Movie had a special message for Alamo viewers which was super cool to see. It maintains an old theater ambiance that is lovely to see. My only wish is that the screen and seats could be better. But thank you Alamo overall for such a unique experience.

Really enjoyed my 1st time at the New Mission. The building is beautiful and they have a cool bar. My server (MJ?) was incredibly friendly and explained the ordering system. I had the Royale with Cheese with waffle fries (server's suggestion). The burger was delicious and the waffle fries were crispy and well seasoned. Overall I had a great time and look forward to returning again soon!

  • Cristina Carter-Engel

I generally like the theater and really enjoy the service as a whole experience. But in the last few months certain foods have gone pretty whack- specifically the salads. We used to go there just for the salad but lately they are 60% croutons and not good, which is super disappointing especially given the price. I imagine other dishes have gone down in quality as well. Big bummer.

  • Danny Phillips

Love this place. The food is delicious. The service was better than a lot of restaurants I have eaten in the area. The way to order is so easy and efficient. The bar is super cute and the theaters themselves have a different personality. I have been to two of the different viewing rooms so far. Haven't tried the bigger one so I am curious how that works. Great place for a date.

  • Shubham Agarwal

As a movie theater I would not recommend this. As someone spoiled by the new age modern moviegoing experience at AMCs of the world, this place has uncomfortable seating, the screen was flickering and some other projector shortcomings. But as an experience this was great. Classic old theater feel, the food was great. I’d take it more as a date experience vs a moviewatching one.

  • Alex Streczyn

What a fun place! It’s such a treat to chill and have a glass of wine and some food served to you at the theater. Also, I had some trouble with my ticket when I first got there and I was pretty confused. The staff were amazing, kind, and helpful. I’m looking forward to coming back, knowing that it’s a fun place to be and if I have any problems, friendly help is nearby.

  • Angus Johnson

Had a really nice experience overall. Showed up early and got a nice Whiskey cocktail in the bar before heading up and getting our seats/placing our food order. Food was good if not a little expensive but that comes with the area. If it weren't so hard to get good tickets (since the theater is pretty small you have to book in advance) I'd probably come here more often.

  • Lisa Luna

We were 10 mins late for a movie, they won't let us in, even though part of our group was already sitting down. We couldn't reach our friend and after another 15 mins or so, they finally agreed to go in to get her. They said we would get a full refund but I just realized there was a $3 transaction fee per ticket (I booked on their website) that was not refunded.

  • Meltem Tutar

Cool cinema with games and a historical atmosphere. It was a cozy environment in the theater with tables and service. The aisles are large so it wasn't disruptive. I would recommend checking this out! Also I liked how the food service didn't have any one time use plastic or paper products. Everything was brought out in reusable plates. A win for the environment!

  • Nabil Foster

The bar / draft room is in the BACK of the building so walk in the glass theater door and walk towards the back of the building. The Drafthouse is the SAME place as the "Bear v Bull" bar, so don't be confused by the separate listings in your search results. Cool atmosphere that keep the low cinema lighting vibe alive with funky music.

  • Charley Galdamez

It was my first time coming here two weeks ago and I'm definitely coming back again. We watched La La Land here and the ambiance was perfect. They serve you food as you watch the movie and even though the menu is a bit pricey, some of the food and drinks are delicious. The mac and cheese along and the parmasean popcorn are a hit.

  • Michele Reilly

Love this place. Dinner and a movie together in one venue. The food (Alamo Bowl and Cobb salad with grilled chicken) was delicious and the staff are amazing -- they delivered food and adult beverages during the movie without blocking views or disturbing the experience in any way. Well-spaced, comfy seats and reserved seating!

  • Conan McIvor

Awful cinema experience, tightly packed seating with poor angles of the screen, view interrupted constantly by waiters delivering food. The smell of greasy fast food was nauseating, only lasted 10 minutes before we felt compelled to leave. Not a cinema, rather a cheap restaurant with a screen. Movie-lovers avoid at all costs.

  • Melissa Lager

This is the best theater I have ever been to. It is historic and beautiful, the theaters are amazing, seats comfortable, food delicious, friendly staff, cool shop and bar. Always look out for the cool events they hold. I went to an even for the film Come To Daddy with the director and Elijah Wood and it was a blast.

  • Samuel C

Having gone here three times now. I can confidently say it is the best theatre atmospherically in San Francisco, especially with enforcing policy. No one talks or takes their cellphone out during the film. Food is fantastic if not on the expensive side. Had the mushroom/veggie pizza and it was absolutely amazing.

  • Brian Ollivier

The service at Alamo is incredibly consistent and high quality. The atmosphere is also highly conducive to enjoying films of all kinds. The food was hot, delicious and fairly quick to arrive, though for popular movies where there are a lot of people, it's best to get there a little early to get your orders in.

  • CineJay

I go here all the time. I mostly go to Terror Tuesday's and Weird Wednesday's which can be really great or really bad, but I also go for the bigger releases and custom menus. The food and service are great, but NO TALKING! They will kick you out Bring some one to share these wonderful memories with! …

We should all watch movies in theaters more often. We need to rebuild our urban community. And Alamo is the place to be! I ordered chicken wings, popcorn with truffle and herb and Tito‘s top mule. The chicken wings were very dry. The popcorn was really good but a bit too salty. The drinks were excellent.

  • P S

Very cool space! I’ve only been to Alamo Drafthouses in brand new buildings. I love that they were able to use this historic theatre and keep it alive. It’s beautiful inside. I love that they offer films that are hard to find otherwise. I do wish the chairs reclined like others, they are very upright.

  • Tim Wagner

Cozy bar and dinner service in a funky historic cinema. Service can be a bit hit or miss...suggest ordering everything at once. House-made chicken tenders and baked-to-order chocolate chip cookies are fantastic. Come early, enjoy a drink in the bar ... You can take it into the theater with you!

  • Ashley Osbourn

What an amazing experience! Went to see Once Upon a Time in Hollywood in 70mm and have no regrets! The atmosphere is amazing and the staff is friendly & are knowledgeable about their beer lists! Try the Moonlight Lager, it was aces! Will definitely be back for another theatrical experience!

  • Guillaume Lachaud

This is the kind of place that reminds you that streaming won't be able to kill theaters. They have legendary programmation with movies you'll never see anywhere else. Plus great food, great screens and great hosts. Pricing is great too. Alamo offers the best experience to enjoy a movie.

  • The Astro Philosopher

Came in to catch their queer horror series and watched hell raiser 2. Service was efficient and the seemed with the old school theater style that every seat in the house had a great view. Also love that they have an old school dvd “rental” and merch area. I got the Freddy Krueger coozie!

  • Aaron Bosch

Great movie theater with a good atmosphere and good food and drink. My only complaint is they have not upgraded to better seats and still use the old school fixed seats. Hopefully they do a refresh to get recliners because then it would overtake the metreon as best theater in SF easily.

  • Alejandra Vela

Would you like to watch a movie with Fried chicken? Bottomless popcorn with truffle or herbs? Margaritas? Beer? Bottomless soda? Pizza? Alamo drafthouse is my go-to cinema to get all these and more I LOVE their handbreaded chicken tenders, you need to try them …

  • Alicia Graham

Such a fun venue, especially their movie party events! Their bottomless popcorn is super fresh and tasty, and the staff is really quick about getting your orders straight to your seats. A lot of drink options, next time I'll be trying one of their shakes because they looked so good.

  • Cece Jdt

Crazy experience! $3 tickets to see Apocalypse Now in a historic cinema!! The portion of food and beverage are overall perfect, the pizza are just very small compared to the price. The milkshake are very good! Service is perfect and the waiters very comprehensive and helpful.

  • Mrugesha Sathappan

If you are someone who is used to going to Imax / Dolby / bigger theaters this theater experience alone is a major downgrade. The screen is okay and the audio is poor and not as immersive. That’s to be expected I guess at a independent theater? Idk. The food is good!

  • BearLordFran

I had a great time the food is yummy as **** I recommend the Buffalo Califlower wings it be do hitting girl and some milk shake mmmm they had the Mexican vanilla but it's out so I got the salted caramel milkshake and it hit yasss queen get it with any movie

  • Ray Cruz

It's such a unique place to watch a movie. If you do order food during the showing, I recommend having them swipe your card to start a tab so you just have to sign for it during the movie. Taking out your card halfway through is irritating.

  • Jesse Smith Springer

Such a fun experience. I wish they had more staff or something because the food and drinks are slow and the poor wait staff apologized the whole time. Drinks are amazing, food was even better. Definitely worth it for the fun experience of

  • Daniel Breach

We were taking our seats in the theater right as the previews ended and the movie was starting, when a staff member asked us to follow them outside so they could speak to us, and demanded to see our tickets. Then they explained that we

  • Gary Withey

This place has a kitschy aesthetic that feels just right. There's a great little bar inside for pre-movie drinks and a stable of pinball machines, too. The seats are spacious & comfortable, the renovated theaters preserved much of the

  • Stephen Lee

Had a great time watching the new Top Gun movie here. Seats are large and comfortable. Fun that you can order food from your seat and have it delivered to you before or during the movie. They did a wonderful job restoring the theater!

  • Totoro

This theater is absolutely amazing. One of the more interesting places to watch a movie in the city. It is on the expensive side, and be careful about the timing of the movie, because this area can be rather dicey in the evenings.

  • Gretchen P

Great space. Love ordering from the theater. Quality food and drinks. My server was great. Although the people at the entrance of the theater were not as outgoing and friendly (kinda annoying but typical of SF customer service).

  • Don Walling

I can't think of a better place or way to see a movie. I love the seating, menu, and movies. Personally, I enjoy the pizza, burgers, pretzels, and bottomless popcorn. I actively avoid going to a "regular" theater these days.

  • Sam Duffy (Sam)

A wonderful theater with an enchanting atmosphere. If anyone is disrupting the show it is taken care of, unlike many other theaters. The food is delicious although not cheap, and the portions are perfect. I highly recommend.

  • Anushka Shetty

Love the movies, the people and the food here! Highly recommend their chocolate chip cookies with milk. Also watch out for their special features (accompanied by a menu that is the same theme as the movie) and watch parties

  • Marjory

Bad service, rude waiters. Disorganized, darker outside of the theater than inside. Messy. Bad neighborhood but that's neither her nor there. Don't fall for the cutesy b.s., you're way better off at a normal movie theater.

  • Diane Gordon

There is really nothing like being able to order devilled eggs and beer from your seat while enjoying a movie. Coupled with the bull and bear bar and the awesome staff this place is a good experience from start to finish.

  • Kyla Jones

Gotta say, I didn't expect my favorite pickle fries to be from a movie theater. Crunchy, juicy, served with a side of ranch and a good show. What's not to love? The boozy milkshakes here were also an unexpected winner.

  • Bleu Skye

Cool vibe. Great drinks made by skilled bartenders. You can order food/drinks/dessert during the movie and they bring it right to you in your seat. Impressive pinball collection upstairs. Great place to take a date.

  • John Mountain

I love the wild and obscure movies they show for Terror Tuesday and Weird Wednesday. Between the movie selections and being able to eat real food and drink real drinks in my seat, this is my favorite theater ever.

  • Chris

Still a great movie theater to come with great food / drinks. The only downside is that the waiters sometime come and momentarily block your view. They do their best to be out of view but sometimes it happens.

  • Rachel Levine Photography

We LOVE this theater! Anyplace that has great movies both old and new, and serves massive portions of popcorn and drinks to my seat is a WINNER! It’s a fun experience and we love the arcade and movie posters.

  • Abe

We saw Spider-Man across the spider verse in theater 2. The rest of the theater building we walked around felt air conditioned, but there was zero air circulation during the movie. I probably won’t come back.

  • Laura Peters

The Alamo Drafthouse Cinema New Mission offers one of the best movie going experiences I have had in ages - a large roomy theater with comfortable seats and excellent food and drink. I can't wait to return!

  • Paddy O'Kearney

Such an amazing place and experience. Went to see a few films recently, and honestly it was one of the best cinematic experiences I've ever had. Food and drinks were really reasonable. Definitely go here!

  • Jason Leung

Great theater for movie enthusiasts! Loved the malted cold brew coffee milkshake! It may be interruptive for waiters to pass in front of you during the movie but I feel the overall experience is worth it!

  • Joel Robertson

I love the Alamo! Great theater and food. This last visit the beer was not fresh! I changed IPAs and still was a bit sour, must be the lines. I am sure they will fix this soon though. Otherwise 5 stars.

  • AmdusiasSix Six

Pretty good experience, the food is not so great! I would suggest grabbing a meal before or after. Beer selection is good, and the cocktails are decent. Went on a weekday about mid-day was not crowded.

  • Jerry Clark

Getting SERVED food ANYTIME during a movie?!?!? What an idea! The food was good, as well. Made my experience watching The Marvels (loved it!) even better! Wish there was a theater like this in my area.

  • Rob Loblaw

Love Alamo, this is a nice lil "rescued "vintage theater w tons of character. Once they get a better AC system in here, I'd come again and again. Love the lil redlot bar..good drinks and great lil vibe

  • K. L Jeffrey

A fantastic movie theater— table service for food, a beautiful interior, tons of fun programming. They even do video rental!o think this might be the most fun I’ve had at a movie theater in my life.

  • Elsie Militar

Great selection of movies. Delicious food. I love their truffle popcorn and milkshakes. They are strict about audience behavior. It is the best place to avoid people who talk and text during movies.
