This review should be 5 star. The older gentleman (Mr. Anderson?) is exceptional. He measures, studies wear on your current insoles, and explains reasons and options. He is the best in town if you have troubled feet. (I have recently visited 7 comfort shoe stores.) However, the ladies who also work there destroyed my experience. When other customers arrived, the gentleman turned me over to the ladies. I totally understand that he cannot be everywhere at once, but those women just threw this and that shoe, totally inappropriate to my feet, at me. It was the "throwing spaghetti at the wall to see what sticks" method. Also, they displayed impatience and frustration. I just left. Sale lost. I'm writing this review because this is the second such experience in this store. A couple of years ago I experienced the same attitude from the lady who currently has strawberry blonde hair. That time, I felt pressured into purchasing, but returned them promptly when I realized it. So, the very knowledgeable gentleman has, sadly, lost 2 sales from me. If I go in again, I will be happy to wait as long as necessary to work only with that gentleman. If you have problem feet, that is what I would suggest.

I needed a great pair of walking sandals and I thought I found the perfect pair at Anderson’s. Great color, great fit and the service was fantastic. I have gotten numerous complements. I was happy to tell folks where I got them. I was a walking ad for Andersons. Two months later the strings to my gladiator sandals were breaking and I went back to Anderson’s. I paid a small grip for the comfort and I’m back two months later? I went into the shop and was ignored by the sales person. When she finally noticed me, her advise to the string problem was to go next door to the shoe repair shop and buy new strings. Not the solution for shoes that cost $145. I calmly advised that I needed to speak to someone else who understood the importance of great customer service. The guy that sold me the shoes , I’m thinking the owner, apologized, went next door got the strings laced them up and put them on my feet. I was satisfied with that transaction, and the craftsmanship of the show is not worth the price. I’ve noticed the leather is separating from the lining, it’s time for the gorilla glue. Really? Never again.

Great product and nice people but chaotic and disorganized. A month ago I took in my forms to order a second set of orthotics and to have a refresh on the original. Without asking me, they mailed the refreshed pair to me...which went missing in the mail. Once it was returned to the store I stopped in to pick them up. It turns out that they never started making the new pair because someone thought it was only the refresh. I told them that I was leaving on a trip and wanted the new pair before I left. They assured me that they would be ready within a week...when I didn't get a call, I called them to check. No knowledge of an order with a requested pick up date. No acknowledgement of either the original oversight or the missed deadline...nothing. I am happy with the product but feel like they have taken my money and and unless I hound them for the product, I will never hear from them again. I already have a fulltime job, I don't feel like managing their business should be added to my job duties.

You haven't been to Anderson's Footwear? Your feet are missing out. Behind the modest exterior of the shop on Madison Street hundreds of pairs of beautiful AND comfortable shoes live, governed by Andy Anderson, a fantastically knowledgeable and helpful orthopaedic shoe specialist. He will meet and greet your feet and get to know them in an instant, explain your feet's problems to you so you too understand them better. Your relationship with your feet (which probably is problematic) instantly improves. Then he helps you select the right shoe for your needs, or makes you a pair of personalised shoe inserts. If you find after some time that the shoe or insole is not perfect, he will adjust them for you free of charge. My arthritic feet are now so much more comfortable… and I have pretty shoes, too! No more clunky black or beige lace-ups but a great variety of models and colours, and yes, I even RUN sometimes!

My wife had read some good things about this store on the web so we visited during our recent visit to Seattle. I wasn't optimistic (as I've had four foot operations and haven't been comfortable walking for a number of years). Imagine my surprise when Andy recommended and strategically installed a pad on my orthotic that really helped. It felt so good I asked him to recommend a pair of sneakers. He brought out a pair of 12EE Brooks Addiction and, with my orthotics (and his newly installed pad), I felt immediate relief. Bought those and a few extra sets of the pads for my other (identical) orthotics I had at home. My wife and I then visited Victoria Island and walked for miles. First time I've been able to walk so far without pain in many years. Thank you, Andy!

I love this place and will truly never buy shoes anywhere else again. Shoe shopping has always sucked for me, but here I come in and they measure my feet, ask what I'm looking for, and only bring me things that will make my feet happy. I got some Blundstones here (on sale!) and they've been amazing about helping me make them fit. I've stopped in three times and had them stretch them out, add cork for extra support, and stretch them out some more to fit my weird feet. All for free. Taking care of our feet and getting quality footwear is important, and they make it so easy! And they're kind folks! Happy to support them.

I have very mixed feelings about this place. On one side I love it. Only place in Seattle to get the shoes I need and customize the soles. The guy is great and some of the staff are helpful. But the older lady, blondish, who works there can seem a bit entitled/judgemental or know it all about customers needs and I go in there knowing what I need. It would be better to have a less forceful approach and make polite suggestions instead of make me feel bad for knowing what I need and asking for it. Some people have very specific chronic conditions, and you don't walk in these shoes... So.. ya know...

My girlfriend and I were in Seattle on vacation and both needed new shoes. We found Andersons and I can say with ease this was the best shoe experience I have ever had. Mike was very knowledgeable and quickly got me shoes that fit well and were my style. I'll be making sure to give them my business even though I'm not from around here. My feet, knees, and back have never felt better so fast just from a great fitting pair of shoes. For reference I'm 385 pounds so a good pair of shoes does a lot for me. Highly recommend going here for your future shoe needs.

My kid was in the nearby hospital. I dropped into this small store while window shopping. I found a great selection of shoes and really helpful staff. They took the time to show me what to look for in a supportive shoe (a more rigid heel section sure does help) I bought a pair of runners. and have been applying their advice to all my shoe purchases. No more soft, mushy (sorry Sketchers) memory foam shoes for me. Great little gem for those of us with plantar fasciitis. Highly recommended.

Take the #60 bus home and always try to pop in to see what’s new. Terrific Mom & Pop shoe store. Not a store to look for women’s evening shoes, but a surprisingly large selection for such a compact store. There are plenty of athletic shoes to choose from, but I’ve never bought an athletic shoe in my life. The shoes I’ve bought were casual, always fun, in colors not in necessarily usually found in a Nordstrom. The staff is terrific, always ready with a suggestion but never overbearing.

Went into the little shoe store just to browse. Noticed they sell hoka shoes which was nice. The lady greeted us did not get out of her seat, continued on her phone same time trying to talk to us. But not paying attention. The next couple people came in, she immediately stood up and asked what they were looking for I was disappointed. I do not try to write negative reviews. Note to the wise greet everyone! Found my home she’s elsewhere. They lost I found!

I first learned about Anderson's while attending a conference in Seattle in 1998. An acquaintance who knew about my challenge in finding shoes to fit difficult feet, suggested I visit the store - a great recommendation! Each time I visit the area, I include a trip to Anderson's, and I'm never disappointed. The selection of diverse brands is super, the sales people are knowledge and pricing is competitive. Pay them a visit, and your feet will thank you.

  • Laurel Smith

The staff and owners of Anderson's are so knowledgeable about comfort footwear and thoughtful about the health and happiness of feet! They make extremely comfortable custom orthotics and were even enthusiastic about taking my old, custom orthotics (from my podiatrist) fit better and cushion places that were causing me pain. I would never expect this free of charge, but that's exactly what happened. They now have a customer for life.

  • Marni Sweetland

I needed comfortable good looking shoes for an event. The guy who was helping me gave my feet a total work up and picked out a great pair for me- really they look amazing (much better looking than in this picture) and they were comfortable all night. He also assisted me with some walking shoes and suggested inserts based on his findings. He provided excellent customer service and is very skilled in his field. Go when it's not busy.

  • Nick Flesch

My shoe buying experience here yesterday was excellent. Not only did I end a months long search for the right pair of shoes, but the customer service was some of the absolute best that I have seen for a long time. Valerie (I hope I am remembering her name right!) was so kind, patient and willing to spend the time to be sure I found the best fit for me. The next time I need shoes, Anderson’s is my first stop.

  • Matthew H

The most knowledgeable team I've ever come across in Washington state. This business is run by pure passion and the pursuit of excellence. It's family owned with history as old as Seattle itself. Custom orthotics is the only way to go! I don't think I'll buy my insoles or shoes from big box retailers ever again.

  • Kate Arsenault

Fabulous place to get comfortable supportive shoes to wear when you are on your feet all day. I've bought so many from them over the years. It's so hard to find cute, closed toe shoes but Anderson's makes it easy. And if you work on First Hill, be sure to show them your badge for a discount.

  • Travis Huey

Mikell was amazing. He read my insoles like they were tea leaves and he was a tasseomancer, stayed within my budget, and I walked out of the shop in a new pair of kicks without my feet hurting. 5/5, would recommend. I intend to buy more from these guys as I have more money to spend.

  • Cailyn Schiltz

Came here looking for a new pair of Hokas, and the staff was SO helpful. Not only did I find what I need, the woman with dark hair did some digging online and called the manufacturer to see if they had them in the color I liked. Such a fantastic experience, I will for sure be back!

  • Family Shettler

Knowledgeable, caring customer service! Stopped in late on a Friday afternoon for an orthotics repair. Despite being close to closing time, they quickly and expertly cleaned off the old cover and applied a new cover for the reasonable charge of $48! Great service, we will be back.

  • Lita Browning

Walking around Seattle while my mom was in the hospital. Found this store found a pair of sandals love the looks and support, bought my husband a pair, he has planters fasciitis and he can wear supportive slip ons that dont look like orthopedic shoes. Love this place.

  • Amy Dudek

Amazing customer service, best I have ever had. I work 10hr shifts on my feet running around. I was help right away, described what I need and the wonderful lady working brought me the most comfortable shoes I've ever worn. 100% satisfied and highly recommended.

  • Indie Harrison

Older bald guy misfit my son two sizes too small. Tried to stretch the shoes 2 or 3 times to no avail. Trusted he was fit well and purchased $130 shoes. Turns out he just wanted to make a sale at the cost of his feet. Just don't go here.

  • David Tietje

I wish I'd come here sooner. I spent too much money on shoes and insoles trying to figure out my foot issue. Mike identified my issue quickly and suggested (and I bought) perfect insoles and bought new gym shoes. Absolute game changer!

  • Marian B
