Covid-19 Review : I was so happy to see Barnes & Noble open for in-store shopping. Parking is much easier with fewer people going to the store, such that I even managed to find a shaded parking spot in the closest aisle behind the building. It's clear that the store have made changes to keep everyone safe. There is hand sanitizer on a table outside the store for customers to use before walking inside. And you will also find plenty of hand sanitizer all over the store whenever you feel you need a "refresh". Restrooms are open, and they have a bottle of hand sanitizer you can use afterward when walking back into the store area. There are floor markers near checkout to remind people to keep their distance while waiting to pay for their purchases. Before the pandemic, Barnes & Noble configured their bookstore with bookcases in rows with narrow aisle. It would be a challenge to keep social distance with this old setup. They have rearranged their shelves to create larger U shaped areas which allow customers to more safely browse while keeping 6 ft distance from each other. See photo I uploaded showing how they made it more spacious. The tables that are usually set up near the entrances have been spread apart more (and there are fewer tables than before). The children's room no longer have the tables & seating near the window, where parents used to hang out with their young children. And all of the curved benches, near the stage, at the opposite end of the children's area have been removed to discourage people hanging out. All chairs/seating throughout the store have been removed. You can no longer sit and read. The cafe is open. You can pick up a snack or drink, but all the cafe seating (tables and chairs) have been removed.

Holding a mobile device in your hand is just not the same as having the real book. The texture, feel and even scent of the pages as you flip through them as you read eagerly to get to the next page, is not the same experience as reading it online. Barnes and Nobles is the last Large Bookstore that left, that I know of. I hope they stick around for a long time. They offer a cafe with tables and chairs, so you can get your coffee fix while you browse. Lounge area for adults and children. When i look through books sometimes I choose a few possibilities, have a seat and skim through them order to decide which ones I'm purchasing. They also have a huge toy selection and a huge Harry potter section, the most Harry Potter memorabilia I have ever seen any other place carry. The last time I visited was on Christmas Eve. While all the other stores were out of inventory on just about everything, I found exactly what my daughter asked for here. Yes I did pay a few bucks more than i would have elsewhere (that is if they even had stock) but it was nothing too crazy overpriced, it was exactly what I expected to pay as a last minute Christmas shopper.

I was looking for a socks in my diaper bag to put on my kid because I had forgotten to do it before she took her nap. One of the workers comes over marching and acting like my husband and I are stealing something when I'm literally just looking for socks! As soon as I pull them out she has the dumbest look on her face and pretended that she was putting reorganizing books in the next shelf. She had seen that we had a basket with books inside and that nothing had went into the bag but she still came over like she was going to accuse us of something. I understand that he and I are young and not of white ethnicity but Barnes and Nobles need to work on their discreetness and make sure that someone is actually stealing something before they start assuming/ accusing things. After she saw me take the socks out, she preceded to say something that I think was code for "all clear" into her walkie. When we went up to PAY the cashiers kept looking at us like we did something wrong. We go there pretty often but now we might just start getting books on Amazon because the workers don't know how to act.

I haven't been to a Barnes and Noble in quite some time. I believe not since they closed the store at the Prune Yard. This store has been remodeled since I last was in many years ago. They have a Starbucks and a special area for children's books. Didn't check it out since I had no need for them. Was disappointed that the Nook area was very small. They don't have the comfy chairs that were are the Prune Yard store but they had more chairs. My friends thought it was very nicely laid out. As usual, you can spend hours in there. The employees were very helpful and friendly. Was able to easily reserve a book for later purchase. Will be notified when book comes into the store. Very happy to be able to go to a brick and mortar store to actually see and skim the books and support the Nook platform and Barnes and Noble. Wish I had more time but I was actually there to purchase a new Nook and some hardbacks .

In general I like Barnes & Noble, however, the puzzle purchase really changed my view. I got a 1000 puzzle from the store, spend 20+ hours finally put them together. Unfortunately I found one piece is missing. That was so disappointed. I went to store to ask for advice on situation like this. The manger told me bring the puzzle back and then refund as any other products. She was very corporate and no sympathy. I was like, it’s a PUZZLE, it’s not book or CD, you actually put effort and time on it to complete. She didn’t even say I am sorry that happened. I don’t even wanna the refund, please at least have a better attitude to make me feel better instead of telling me that I cannot refund you unless you bring the product back. I don’t know if she did puzzle before, any person who did a puzzle knows how frustrating missing one piece is.

Bought this LP on their online store. Instead of four sides, I got two A/B sides. Tried to return to this to their local store as they mentioned” u can return to warehouse or local store on the receipt”, then I got rejected by their front desk. The reason is “we can’t receive this item to damage our inventory because it’s a damaged item” like it’s my fault to get a wrong item. Then I point out on the receipt that I should be able to return to the local store, response is “online and offline store are separate right now, there is nothing I can do” wo showing any responsibility to help. barbes and noble, if this customer service didn’t kill you, I would be surprised. Will not come back again.

My favorite bookstore in the entire Bay area! With B&N traditional layout, this store offers spacious, clean and family/student friendly environment with its diverse selection of books, magazines, audios and even toys. It is staffed by courteous, helpful staff comparable to more high end establishments. In the cyberspace era dominated by impersonal online book behemoths, it's freshing to able to browse and feel (and smell) new books instead of digitally flipping through endless listing online. The excellent in-store cafe and seatings round out a perfect ambiance for reading and remote working. Highly recommend!

  • Lamp “Lamp” Rome

The store itself was fine nothing special besides the size, the costumer service was decent. I probably would not go again but if I needed to get a book r gift really quick I wouldn't mind running in there. No line when I when in and decently crowded. I you get overwhelmed easily I would not recommend, but I would if you are going to study. The food in the Starbucks looked fine. The kids section was big enough for there to be a bunch of stuff while still not letting you lose you kid. The game section was small. There was a good chunk of manga (Anime books). The books were priced at a reasonable price.

  • chuck larson

They must have every book on the planet. Probably cheaper to shop on Amazon. But going there, you can get it now!! Plus you can physically hold the product before you buy it. & it's a neat atmosphere. They have a Starbucks there with tables & chairs. Little places to sit all over the store. People relaxing & enjoying their reading. Very soothing, relaxing & peaceful atmosphere. The employees are really cool. It's an enjoyable shopping experience. (Almost reminds of a really clean, comfortable, well lit library... except you don't have to bring the books back because you buy them!!)

  • Ali Asghar

It is a very big store and the main parking for it is on the back side. You can enter or exit from either side, they have cash register on either side also. A very active Cafe area d right in the middle. The isle are very well spaced out especially in the kids area which had a small sitting space also. They have very decent sized blue ray collection also with tones of puzzle, games, CDs, magazines and typical assortments of books arranged by categories. A few spots in there to sit besides the cafe can be seen along the store.

It's nice to see some Barns and Nobles are still operating like old days. As much as I enjoy the digitization of the world, but feeling and touching the books and magazines over a cup of coffee in a bookstore is something irreplaceable by technology. I will support this and other locations until they are in business. I hope the leadership finally wakes up and does something to their business model to restore the remaining locations and jobs. This visit was consistent with my last visit experience.

  • Jim Pacelli

At this point I really do not know what to say. They had lot of toys. But as a bookstore I have my doubts. Lots of open space. I am still looking for more books. Old fashion hard back books. Not on sale. Books that are worth having an reading. I never did make it to the music section, I was tired of walking the store. They really have twice the square footage they need. With a coffee bar in the center.... but eating & drinking is a another matter. You be the judge.... am I too hard on them?

  • Ellie “Bg” A

I enjoy coming here and using the outdoor seating and trash can to hangout with my dog, read a new book, and smoke tobacco. I wish the rest of the parking lot was maintained, as there is trash everywhere, it’s a shame. I don’t think it’s necessarily the responsibility of Barnes and Noble, but between them and the neighboring car dealership they should hire someone to keep it picked up. Have some pride in your environment, even if it’s not “technically” your responsibility.

  • Sergey Blashkov

Great place to shop for books: there is a huge selection of all sorts of literature for kids and adults. The staff is helpful, there is a small coffee shop inside. In kids section there is a train table, but make sure to stop by at customer service to grab couple of trains for you little one to play. There is a toys section but not so many board games which I would say is a must for the book store that big. And there is a whole section with vinyl music collection!

  • GinaMarie Moffatt

I have often enjoyed walking the isles of Barnes & Noble buying books on many topics from computer training to fine arts, crafts, myth, history, to fiction, on the side. The music section helped me to make up for the loss of Tower Records. The computer guides are so few now and the selection of books is much reduced. Worth a view on the webpage to find what you are looking for ahead of time but do go and enjoy a dessert and coffee there, the staff are welcoming.

  • Umar Kalim

Great selection of books. You can find quiet spots to sit and read. They have a good selection for children too. Keep tabs on their events schedule for kids activities. Good deals in general. Typically you can always find cheaper books on Amazon. However the experience of going to the bookstore and skimming through the books is fun; I typically find interesting books, which I would have missed otherwise. There is plenty of parking on the side and in the back.

  • Kyrin Marós

Best Barnes and Noble I've ever been to. The only lame thing was the stuffie selection. It gives an old-school vibe but with so many books. So many books everywhere. They tricked me into spending $250 by having such a tempting selection. I regret nothing. Also, the cashier was the first person to tell me I was a member, but I had a membership that wasn't earning me points and I could just add that for free. Will come again even though I live miles away

  • Samir Sharma

As one of the few book sellers left it is good to be able to walk the floor and browse books. To be able to flip them open and look at a real book - not just the first 10 pages online. The store also has a huge variety of media not just books. There are games and puzzles and even old school records. You can get a 12 inch record and a book (things from the past). There is also a coffee area for those that prefer this to a library.

  • Haley Carr

I absolutely loved what this Barnes & Noble had on the shelf! Even the coloring, the little trinkets and of course the children section. The only reason I am giving this store 4 stars was because the display racks wouldn't move as they should so I did get to see that part of the store. Also the Starbucks drinks weren't very good.. Other than that, overall probably the best Barnes & Noble in the bay area.

  • Jonathan Correll

Their policy on sports and Pokemon cards is ridiculous and inconsistent compared to other locations. They allow you 1 sports card purchase and 1 Pokemon cards purchase while the other stores allow 2 of each SKU to be purchased. I don't like being made to think I'm doing something wrong by wanting to purchase more than 1 item. I understand you are combating scalpers but this hurts genuine collectors.

  • Fevzi Karavelioglu

Nothing like holding and reading an actual book. That is according to my 16 years old daughter. We stopped here to browse. My daughter ended buying several books. A great selection for any interest and love the atmosphere in this place. Long before my daughter's birth, remember coming to this store to buy books on parenting. It is great to have these book stores, I hope they are around for forever.

  • Agata Fin

A great book store, and has a Starbucks inside. I honestly really enjoy getting a iced almond milk latte and just sitting their reading my magazine. It is really just a fun place. Their are so many books some at better prices than others. If you don't like to read then their are really cute Japanese toy section. As well as many other toy and gift areas.chilled vibes, and I am here for it

  • Casondra Brewster

I have been receiving great customer service from this store during the shelter in place. While they are only open for curbside pick up, there have been a few issues with ordering online. I have called a few times and AJ has helped me both times with picking out puzzles. He I'd very knowledgeable and does not make me feel like I'm a burden when I ask a for specific styles/brands!

  • Sameer Rakheja

I loved their collection of books and spent a couple of hours just browsing. There is a nice Cafe in case you feel like grabbing a quick snack - you can even sit and read with a cup of coffee. There is not a lot of staff but those around are quite helpful (but can be a wait). The kid section is great too with story telling - so the LOs can also spend time enjoyably.

  • Sunil Bhardwaj

Great to come here after an year or so. Nothing beats seeing real books in front of you. Spent an hour browsing but just got a couple of books. For more serious buying- would still go online. Store is very nice, well arranged and amazing helping customer support. Folks checking in on you for help. Can't beat that experience. An hour well spent.

  • christian petersen

Bookstore is a bit sad. I did go to the Cupertino Library just before. They difference is ghastly. One place you want to pick up a book vs the other you rather want to get out. I did like the "date a book" concept! Picked up 2 books that I can honestly say I am looking forward to read and never would have picked off the shelf myself. …

  • Charles Compean

What a wonderful place to hang out. I had a really nice coffee date today and I also enjoyed reading a book that focused on other literature and other books and the Dead Sea Scrolls. It's nice and quiet very inviting people are very calm and it's just a really nice place to have a cup of coffee and read a nice book rest and relax.

  • Mike Query

I walked in to B&N today and it felt like I stepped back in time to 2008. I mean that in the best way possible! The fact that they’re still doing their thing is so heartening, and the experience is just as I remember it. Browse books, grab a coffee, and now, as a parent, peruse an incredible selection of toys and kids books.

  • April Fang

This place has a great selection but it was very difficult to find someone to help you find anything. The employee that did end up helping me though was efficient (yay!). I would definitely recommend having a picture of the book you're looking for, or even having it pulled up on the website on your phone that show them.

  • Natalie Leber

I love book stores… this is a nation wide chain but it is still fun. We have a membership with them and get discounts on things as well as having the kids signed up for a birthday treat. This is what we went for this time. The kids are loving this store too and love browsing here just as much as they do at the library.

  • Debi Majumdar

Super big Barnes & Noble. Collection is extremely diverse and even has a section for children, toys, music, house objects. There lego and translated fiction were great definitely one of my favorite bookstores in the bay area. Has a cafe inside the store too if you want to read while enjoying coffee or having a snack.

  • Chelle T

It has been awhile since I stepped into this bookstore. It was fun to look and get ideas for presents for Christmas. The coffeeshop in the center was tempting but I did not want to ruin dinner. It was surprising I did not buy anything this time. Fun gift selections and there was even a toy and games section.

  • Anthony & Sarah Grabowski

I love coming here. Especially love seeing Lily in the cafe. She is so sweet and kind. She was very gentle and because she thought that I looked like I wasn't feeling well she suggested some teas to help me. I'm so glad that when I come in here I know there is someone like Lily who cares about her customers.

  • Florence Sue

Very big collection of kids books, they even have a Manga section for Japanese graphic novels fans. They have a lot of toys, puzzles, games, and activity/craft kit. The restroom is old and not very clean though. But anyways, overall a good experience and would recommend to check out books, toys and games.

  • Christina Jain

This location is really large and feels particularly family friendly. There's an extra spacious kids area, YA section, manga, fantasy/sci-fi and a solid chunk dedicated to toys and games. The adult sections felt less enticing to browse through but we were there to look for kids books so it didn't matter!

  • Queen Wonderworld

I take my Daughter as a reward for going to school n doing well. She loves the Selections and I love to see her happy n doing well in school. This Barns and Nobel is Tops. Friendly and know what they are helping you with... We are here every 2weeks and the lil Cafe that serves Starbucks is Awesome too.

  • Joshua Leavitt

I'm a fan of Barnes and Noble but this location is horrendous when it comes to customer service. Disrespectful, apathetic, and unprofessional cashiers, who lack any form of common sense and decency. If this place closed, I wouldn't shed a tear. You're better off ordering from Amazon.

  • Matt (Eye on the wall)

This B&N is a clean and quiet place. Although, I ordered a slice of quiche from Starbucks, inside the bookstore, and I was very disappointed. It was like hot dough and heated up to the point that I had to wait around five minutes to cool it off and eat it! Not the fault of B&N.

  • Darby Mowell

Clean, nice store with lots of parking. They host events regularly with various authors of different genres (and I was fortunate enough to meet James Murray there a few months ago!). The cafe is more well located inside the store compared to other B&N locations I've been to.

  • Allissa T

I love going to this Barnes and Nobles and been going here since I was a teen. It's always been a chill and inviting place. The workers are always really helpful and friendly. It's always organized and clean, and just the perfect atmosphere for browsing for some good books.

  • Penger 55

Love to keep on reading demon slayer full volumes and hope to get to read death note and Tokyo ghoul. A lot of books volumes are sold out separately so might not be able to finish the full volume like a box set but they try hard to restock so I’m proud of them! …

  • Espererai

Good place to get book at retail price if you wait for a good sale. Parking is fine. Update July 2022: Still a great store, go during the week if you can less busy. Update: I find it is better to order online because the books are not handled as much as in the bookstore.

  • Kat Castillo

I stopped in here on a Saturday and was blown away by the large number of people in the store. All tables in the coffee shop were filled. The children's area was crowded. The toy and game area has a great variety of products. It was a great place to browse and buy.

  • Leilani Panoringan

Clean, organize, with kind employees, and a great place to bring kids for it has a large children's section. Plenty of seats and spaces to sit & read at. It even has Starbucks that has its special delicious peanut butter chocolate chip cookies. …

  • Deb DemPro

Large selection of items and friendly employees; however, the building is in need of modernization. The Wi-Fi is slow. There are very few electrical sockets in the seating area. There are just a few tables to sit at if using a laptop. But, plenty of parking!

  • G J

I love books, I love Barnes and Nobles, and this store has a nice layout and is quite expansive. I was able to easily find the book I wanted in stock, decent prices. I appreciate paperback books, can't get behind a kindle, so I'm glad this is still standing

  • Rohit Gupta

Nice bookstore with nice ambiance, but Barnes & nobles infrastructure needs massive improvement. I have gift cards that I've entered into the app but cannot use in the physical bookstores. In our modern age with competitors like amazon-- unacceptable.

  • Greg Catcott

This Huge bookstore with real books is a wonderful alternative to tiny glowing screens. I find it amazing that it seems to always be busy and continues to thrive. Also they seem to have added many more gift items other than books, puzzles, games, etc.

  • Saul Morales

Absolutely love this Barnes and Noble. One of the few large bookstores left. Large space, lots of inventory, games, puzzles etc. If you love books, love meandering among hundreds if not thousands of books then this place is great for any book lover!

  • Alina Adams

One of the few bookstores that's left open and it is always a great experience to go there and pick a good book. Staff is very friendly and helpful. Also, a great section for kids and toys. I hope more people go there to buy to help their business.

  • Judy L

Very big book store, friendly and helpful staffs. They kindly helped me find what I was looking for. They have a large selection of puzzles and I liked their stationary collection as well. They have Moleskine notebooks, Cavallini vintage puzzles.

  • Edwin Portier

People at Barnes and Noble are very nice and trying as much as they possibly can. Unfortunately they couldn't help me. My bank gave a new card and changed all the information on the card. However they couldn't help me how to change the important

  • Jemelee Melendres

Great place to take the kids. Cafe had lots of choices. Kid area has a stage and the bathrooms are clean. This is one of the few B&N still open. We like to support them so there are still other book stores besides the library that opens late.

  • Gregor E

Went in here to grab a copy of What If: 2, a book I’ve been dying to get my hands on, and I was happily greeted to some great customer service where an employee quickly helped me find a copy. Overall, I am very satisfied with my experience.

  • John Nguyen

staff is young and friendly. book selections are vast, would prefer more selections for foreign languages. the place is the size of a warehouse still, and has plenty of seating by the cafe. Definitely coming to support once every paycheck

  • Thai Nguyen

Brick and mortar stores are gems these days. They still have a music and video section with CDs, DVDs, and a vinyl selection. I came to pick up a book and notice how many open tables they had. I need to come here and read and mastermind.

  • Luda Kuleshova

Good place to visit solo or with friends and kids. There are big varieties of books to buy, the best place to see magazines and to taste a cup of matcha with almond milk. This place is friendly and well organized, attractive to anyone.

  • Rita Baumann

Large, crowded, store that has seen better days. (Dirty windows and carpets.) It's time for a refresh. Book genres are difficult to find. Cafe is in the center of the store- as an afterthought. However, the staff was very helpful.

  • Francisco Ajax Gonzalez

I went to check for a book ended up becoming a member and getting a couple extra books. But i was happy to know there's Barnes & Noble in San Jose. A little far from my location but no choice. Good attitude and oustanding service.

  • Jordan Parmelee

Great place to study. Outlets all over the place for my laptop charger, the B&N cafe sells great food, also randomly got the best PSL from here. As an avid Starbucks trip taker, it was the best out of all of the ones I've had.

  • Tiffany Schneider Raff

Beautiful, large and pleasant old school bookstore with a large parking lot. They have a great selection for kids too, and a nice little coffee shop where people work off their computers. This is a rare find now adays!

  • Pablo

Great experience here, very diverse selection of books of any kind. There is a very interesting selection of books on Martial Arts. You could have coffee here also in a quiet environment. I will always return here.

  • Karen Del Carro

Nice big book store. Our stop for the cloudy/chilly Sundays mornings. You can find whatever you are looking for starting from books to gifts. There is a coffee shop inside for an even more relaxed experience.

  • Arthur Rosa

This is a great barnes and noble location. The staff is very friendly and they have a huge selection. The cafe is nice too and there’s a lot of tables to sit at. I only wish the horror section was bigger!

  • V Rahl

Bigger than the one at Almaden and books seem to be in better condition as well. Lots of selection for books, music, games, etc. It's very fun and that makes hard to keep track of time while visiting!

  • Jennifer Liu

Best barnes ever. Huge space, wide selection of books, cute cafe with nice eats, and plenty of nooks to hide out and read. Sometimes i just come here to eat lunch bc being here makes me feel smarter!

  • Robin Regan

clean. friendly staff. it was just organized in a confusing way, but the woman i asked for help was more than courteous and I overheard her help my son separately and she was great with him too

  • Navin S

An absolute gem pf a place .. one among the last book shops standing. The staff is curteous and knowledgable, the cafe has a good selection of drinks (Starbucks coffee) and enough seating.

  • Maddy Wells Garske

Very calming atmosphere surrounded by books. I only wish they had some cushions on the floor rather than just chairs to make it easier to plop down with a book comfortably.

  • fortressonahill

Give me books and Battletech and keep giving me books and Battletech and, once you have given me books and Battletech, continue to give me books and Battletech! NYAH!!!!!!

  • Colton Smith

Lots of selection! Great customer service, always checking on you. Really love the charm of them embracing trends and meme culture. Hand done blind date books, super fun!

  • Aviva Briskin

Love strolling into all the different sections of books , stationary, magazines , and stopping for coffee. Great selection of classics , special editions and novelties.

  • SungJin Park

It is the best place for a kid to get familiar with books. Furthermore, since there are lots of toys, it is easily to spend 1hr or more to hang around here with a kid.

  • Jessica Laces

Nostalgic to check this place out! Most traffic seems to be for the coffee / food. It must be great! Prices are a bit steep, but that's normal for B&E

  • Elizabeth Fox

Wonderful selection and magazines - there aren’t many places that have them now. I also love their cookies. Plus a wide selection of books of course!

  • Matthew Talebi

As one of the last bookstores, it's always great to go to a place that smells of fresh new books! Clean and nice place to just sit and read or chill

  • Ken Graham

This is a huge Barnes and Noble bookstore and you can end up being here for hours. Found several books on 3d printing subjects. Friendly staff too.

  • Shawn W

Got ordered out of the store with dirty looks after I got in with an e-scooter. Didn't know that's a no no. No issues at other stores so far.

  • Sonador ‎

One of the last surviving B&N's in the area, the staff are knowledgeable, friendly, and eager to help. The store is clean and well-travelled.

  • Lawrence Tom

This is a quick convenient location, but the prices are higher than Amazon and they did not have some of the summer reading books for school

  • Amol Porwal

Giving this store 5 star, they have wide collection of books, puzzels. Staff is very friendly, I love going to the store for good reads.

  • Heather Blanch

They always have what I need and the employees are super helpful and friendly! I keep going back every time I need a new book or puzzle.

  • Ernesto Lomeli

Cashier Lilyana in Starbucks had the worse attitude and unprofessional demeanor. She seemed burdened and annoyed to provide service.

  • Xiaotong Li

Great place to find magazines and newsstand. Not sure why their front door is switched to the back side, a little bit inconvenient.

  • Dora McFarlane

Love this particular B & N. Great bargain section, good POP! character selection, big, open kids section. Knowledgeable staff.

  • Echo Geng

A perfect place for me to choose books. Sometimes there are some low price books to sell, yes they’re even cheaper than Amazon

  • Julia Torres

Too few chairs to sit and browse a book. People are there for the Cafe and it made the store noisy. Not fun for exploring.
