I shop at this location frequently and spend hundreds of dollars when I come but I will no longer be patronizing this establishment. While I was shopping, I went to the cafe and noticed no available tables to sit at and browse through the books I selected. There were no available benches either. I stopped in the religious area to grab a devotional, began reading and sat on the floor. Something I have done for years and have seen others do as well and it has never been a big deal. An associate came by and told me that I can’t sit on the floor because I’m blocking others from shopping. There was only one person that walked down that aisle and when he did I told him I would move out of his way and he told me no, he was fine. When I went to the counter to checkout I asked the cashier if there was a policy against sitting on the floor and she said no. Then the other associate Annmarie comes over and begins to say that it’s not a policy and due to covid that they took away seating and offer bench seating and tables. Once I told annmarie that there was no available seating at the time I walked over there with a completely filled basket she then starts to say that there is a policy that was sent out 3 months ago that states that customers can’t sit on the floor and I asked her if they ask everyone to get up she said yes. She couldn’t even provide proof of this policy in writing. She’s a liar, I won’t spend my hard earned money here again.

The new location is lovely, especially the interior design. While it does feel a bit maze like, the shelves are set up in such a thoughtful way, making it easier to browse. Unfortunately I probably won't go to this location much, if at all. The lack of a cafe and comfortable place to sit (and take my time deciding on my purchases) kind of killed it for me. There are a few chairs but it's not the same kind of vibe. My husband and I used to go to the Dale Mabry location, grab a coffee and stack of books / magazines to look at, and would invariably leave a few hours later having spent way way too much (in the best way - as my bookshelves at home can attest:). It was always a wonderful few hours in a great environment that felt like a community. I've started driving over to the Brandon location where they still have the cafe. Really wish they would have included a cafe at the Westshore location though. For now, this location will probably be reserved if I need a quick gift.

I ordered a book months ago that was released on July 25th. Now it is being shipped internationally despite the fact that the order originated in CA and I live in FL. Speaking to an online associate was useless as they stated, "I don't know why, you ordered it." They stated there is nothing they can do until the book isn't received by Aug 14th. The tracking number states its going to Israel for some reason. When I asked to be transferred to a supervisor I was told there were none currently working and I would have to call the following day. I asked if I could be compensated in some way as I am meeting the author July 3rs and this book was supposed to be signed by him at that point and I was hoping to have finished it. I was told, "sorry, we don't have any coupons right now." I will never preorder another book from Barnes & Noble and will do my best to no longer shop there after this unless someone is able to own this error and fix it.

I was in a rush one day to find a quiet place to study and lightly shop for a couple reads when I found this easy centrally located barnes and noble. Its funny, ive never been to one before in my life. I always shopped online. I never truly grasped a in-person authentic book shopping experience like the one I had here. The aroma of coffee, quiet customers, and friendly helpful was something out of a book itself. I wonder how someone could have such a magnificent experience like myself but I guess thats what barnes and noble is known for after speaking with various employees. The coffee shop had plentyful seating as I was nervous if I would be able to sit and study. I enjoyed friendly faces and a guide to new books coming in. I have been coming back for months now and every time I become even more comfortable. I havent bought a book online since and probably never will!

I usually don't give bad reviews but my daughter and I was followed around the store. When checking out I purchased a book and my oldest daughter was going to buy her sister the toy she wanted. The toy was taken away from my little one until my oldest daughter paid for it. Why couldn't you just let my little girl hold the toy until check out. The lady at the counter gave me a very strange feeling. Like my daughter was doing something wrong. I will now add my daughter is of mixed race. I would normally not pay any attention but this was so blaten that it has bothered me for a few days now. And I will never go back to this book store. From the guy following us and the cashier taking her toy away, you should be ashamed of yourselves and need some sensitivity training.

I come 4 times a week to this location, had bought so many books from this store and It’s very unpleasant that I had ask for a cup of water (offering to pay) and they say they can’t give cups of water due to the guidelines and I completely understand the rules now, but I see that someone next to me American lady had ask for the same cup of water I had asked and they gave it to her without hesitation... keep in mind I can def buy a bottle of water but I do NOT drink my water of plastics bottles.. Very upsetting. at least be honest to every customer about your guidelines to the people at the Starbucks cafe.. I seen who had their cups of waters today and who didn’t...

Such a wonderful Barnes & Noble, this store is both updated and kept up much better than other stores I have visited lately! I spent hours wandering the shelves of this bookstore and had a great time. They have a great collection of books (where I had no trouble finding books I was looking for) and the staff was so friendly! If you are looking for a larger Barnes & Noble with larger variety, this is the store for you! This store does not only have a huge selection of books but they also have a TON of cute stationary, cards (birthday, holiday, etc.), gifts (ex: tote bags), and games! I will gladly come back here and I recommend trying a visit here!

  • Karen Sutton

I must say I miss the old location. I house sit for my daughter in Tampa every six weeks or so and I loved going in , grabbing a few books to decide which one to buy and sitting down near the cafe with a coffee and unwinding . Because of no cafe in the new one it doesn’t have that same “ come in relax and stay awhile” feeling anymore. Please don’t do this to mine in Sarasota. If you do I’ll have to start buying online ( and I really want to support brick and mortar stores) because it just won’t be worth the traffic hassle. Going to B&N for some books and a chocolate cupcake and coffee is something my husband and I do at least every other week.

  • Kathie Davis

The store is clean, well lit and organized. The staff is friendly and helpful but they could probably use someone at an information desk at this location to assist you to find what your looking for. The cafe area is small but clean and the barista was working hard to help everyone as quickly as possible. There is a large children's book area. They always have some good buys on books if you take the time to find them. Prices on best sellers can be high. We enjoy spending time here browsing at books and sipping coffee. Too bad that, probably due to COVID they no longer have comfy couches or upholstered chairs in this or any of their locations.

  • Tyree Washington

Great selection. Fantastic place to sit for a bit. The Starbuck's cafe in the store is well staffed and has good food and drink. The only gripe I have is , if picking up a book reserved online for store pickup, the store will often show it available online but not have it on hand. This has happened twice to me. Once was over the holidays so I can't place all the blame on the store. But the second time I spoke to an associate on the phone and they confirmed my selection was available. When I arrived at the store I learned that that wasn't the case. While irritating these are the only issues I've ever had with this store.

I do not like the layout of this Barnes and Noble at all, compared to the Clearwater location or really any other location. The store is crammed in the middle of a plaza. The interior also feels small, crammed, and like a maze, like a previous reviewer stated. Also, to be noted, this location does NOT have a cafe and only has a few chairs for sitting down to read the books. A huge part of the Barnes and Noble experience for me is taking a pile of books and sitting down going through them while I sip a coffee from the cafe. This location does not allow for this kind of experience so if you go for this, it’s not for you.

  • Pierce Brunson

Nice and quiet bookstore. There are plenty of places to sit and read if you decide to. I was a regular a few years back bit decided to visit again. You have to purchase something to be able to sit in the cafe area. Just bring at least $5 because Starbucks coffee is expensive. Still worth the price to have a seat with access to an electrical outlet. Pleasant employees in the cafe. The bookstore workers are helpful and very available to discuss multiple reading subjects if needed. They will look up anything and share suggestions for comparable reading materials. Good location and easy to access from Dale Mabry.

  • Elizabeth Parish

I was sitting in the cafe area doing some schoolwork. I was informed that the space was for customers wanting to enjoy something from the cafe and that there was some people waiting for a seat. Even though there were 3 other empty tables, I packed up and went to another section of the store. The benches were full. So I sat on the floor by the windows far from everyone else. I was told I can't sit here either. So, I cant sit at the table, I can't sit on the benches...and I cant sit on the floor? And no one can give me a reason why sitting on the floor isnt ok. "Thats just our rule."

  • Monica C

Thank Heavens for Dale!! I needed to find a "spot the difference" picture book for a client today, and the book I had ordered on amazon was delayed (I guess by the holiday). I called the store & he was amazing! The inventory they had in the computer system was different from what was in the store, but he physically went to the shelf and selected 3 diff options for me to choose from when I was able to take my lunch break. Great work, and I'm so glad that someone showed me the value of a good bookstore and great employees who know their books! Thank you :)

  • patricia mitchell

I know book stores are a thing of the past, but I can't help but come here and look, touch, smell, and buy a book every so often. This store truly is a happy place, always bustling with book lovers, kids shopping for last minute reports, magazine enthusiasts, and travelers looking for their next bestseller-afternoon-read. If you are bored or even feeling down, pop in to this huge store with endless options of genre, literary knickknacks and reading technology... complete with a coffee shop and lounge areas. This is a happy place. :)

  • Vinny Fountain

I'm so happy that this bookstore still exists in the world of Amazon online purchasing. To have the ability to pick up a book and leaf through it is a powerful tool often overlooked when purchasing something online. I think it is definitely something we used to take for granted that's now often not given the credit it deserves. And as an added plus, having a Starbucks located inside is nice. Also to have the ability to bounce book topics off the people that work there is nice to find something that really caters to you.

  • marsha goldstein

This is one of the oldest Barnes and Noble stores in the Tampa Bay area and still one of the best. There is ample parking, to start. The periodicals section is expansive and well-organized. The displays are attractive and the sales associates are knowledgeable. There is a large, separate children's section. A Starbucks cafe is just beyond the magazines with picture windows, bright lighting and a nice offering of drinks and tidbits. This is a place where one can easily spend hours.

  • EDDIE LEAL

Very nice store with a great variety of books. They also have a robust selection of discounted products for those on a tight budget. The "relax" area is nice. Tables for customers who wish to sit down/drink a cup of joe and enjoy their book/s. It can be expensive depending on what your getting. if you are on a tight budget I would recommend Amazon if you don't mind the risk/time table to receive your book. Overall great store/great people! :)

  • Star Alvarado

I have been coming here for years, and can honestly say I’m always treated like an esteemed guest. I always order my favorite spinach and artichoke quiche and Joe always helps me with a friendly hello and always remember all Of his returning guests . I have witnessed how he greets everyone like a friend. I truly enjoy coming here the staff is always helpful with my needs. I highly recommend this bookstore.

  • cavin cunningham

Thankfully people are still reading ! Lots of books and other items here but selection quite random. Best best is to buy on line if you want a particular book. Update to complain about cashier who ignored me to take girls who walked ahead of me, then had attitude when I mentioned it. If she focused as much on customer service as she did on her multicolored braids, we would all be happier.

  • Gelimar Harrison

This store is absolutely amazing! Aside from having a great collection of books, they have a staff who share a love for literature and have incredible customer service. Two young women (who’s names I can’t remember) helped me find some books that were on my list and were so patient while recommending me some other books they think I’d enjoy. Love this store and it’s worth the hour drive!

  • Lynanne Lawhead

Loved the staff who took their time to talk with my grandson about his selection and knowledge of the book I was getting for him. As well as suggestions for other books he might enjoy. The person who was helping me did his Best in finding the book though the computer system said there were two there but he couldn't find them but looked in several locations for me. It's a Great store!

  • Elis Pujols

We have been going to the S. Dale Mabry store for years & a new generation of the family came in as my grandkids made their initial visits today. Such choices by category of books as well as toys , games & stuffed animals. Don't forget the cafe to get a drink and/or snack while chilling out reading or just enjoying each other's company. Worth my years as a store member.

  • Nathan Hamilton

One of my favorite book stores in the bay area. Honestly the star bucks café caught me off guard this time around. You're basic Barnes n nobles with record players & vinyls. Your section for kids book, the abundance of sales spread across the store, bookmarks, and my personal favorite section manga. Great customer service and rewards plan I advise signing up.

  • Shiva Nataraj -Allen

Barnes and nobles has a good selection of books as illustrated by my pictures. I would like to add a suggestion that would tremendously expand your business as well as your fan base would be if you had more books on Hinduism and Indian culture. Most Indians are very devout readers and would welcome a local source to get books on our Dharma and Culture.

  • Mark Reese

Fir a long time they had a mask requirement even though the ordinance was over. Then they finally removed it and they bring them back, reducing the pleasure of actually hanging out at a bookstore. Without that enjoyment, one of my favorite things to do and something I did weekly, it is far easier to buy from Amazon. Ideology over customers. Good luck.

  • Ashley Flaskamp

I drove across town to this location for the one and only copy of a book that was a gift. Right as I walked in, I was greeted with a smile and she helped me right away. Couldn't have worked out better. However, I now know I should definitely call to make sure they have it because the book could have been on hold for someone else, thankfully it wasn't.

  • owl tune

Been going here for years. I think they should pay there employees more, offered me 9$hr and I have 2yrs prior experience. Pained me to say "whatutalknboutwhillis" lol. Anyway. Its b&n. Ill always love it at the bookstore, especially barnes and noble. Just dont understand how the intend to find good help paying 3rd world wages.

  • April Haugland

I usually go to the Tyrone location but was in Tampa today and decided to stop in. The store was very well organized and when I got to the register Becky was very friendly and polite. She explained to me in detail the difference between the two membership options, and did the most to ensure I had the best experience, I’ll definitely be back.

  • Larry Warner

I always loved this B&N. The staff is so helpful and customer oriented, unlike the Carrollwood location. However, I went the first time on a Sunday and oh my was it crowded. Has me wondering if anyone just brings their kids to the park anymore? I wound up not having time to select a book or a coffee because of the lines. Maybe another time.

  • Alyssa Karr

Absolutely the worst “customer service” I’ve ever come across from Debra- a “manager”- dark hair and eyebrow piercings- she was AWFUL. She does not know how to speak to people in the least bit. It was my first time in the store and I’ll never return due to her. AVOID AT ALL COSTS IF YOU DON’T WANT TO BE DISRESPECTED. So so so disappointing

  • Eliza Fisher

There is handicapped parking and entry. The aisles are wide and clear. Everything was clean and nicely displayed. I met my mother and two of her friends to play bridge in the deli area. The area was clean and had room between the tables for the ladies with canes and walkers to move. The cookies are delicious and the staff are friendly. In

  • Mark Ehlert

This is my favorite place to go specifically in the cafe. The pricing is better than Starbucks especially with the membership card along with an amazing staff. I swung by this evening and the Baristas were awesome and appreciate them. They are my favorites. The Store Manager has everything handled and under control. She is great as well.

  • Christopher Gian

I don't know they were closed. It's Friday and they don't open till 10:00 a.m. I want those working hours. Seriously? All joking aside, I've been to this location before & they're great. Great staff, good size store, big selection. Really can't go wrong here, even if they don't have what you're looking for they'll help you find it.

  • Jonathan

I love Barnes and Noble. I could spend hours wandering around. They have an excellent selection of books. The employees are friendly and very helpful and finding things for you. In addition to books they also have quite a lot of cool stuff like board games, Funko pops, and other collectables. Their cafe is also very nice

  • Jamie Robe

Used to go here all the time. During pandemic I stopped, but recently have been in a few times. Staff all masked and they have plexiglass at registers. Books reorganized and they are a great place for toys, games, and gifts. The toys gave a lot of cool hightech type STEM. Great place to buy cards for holidays.

  • Frances Scott

Always a pleasure to visit this Barnes & Noble. Clean, quiet and a good spot to get a coffee and have conversation with a friend. UPDATE! 1/27/23 This Barnes and Noble will be closing on 2/28/23 and reopening at a new location (closer to me!) on 3/1/23! Yay!! Right now, everything in the store is 40-75% off!

  • Steven Novoa

I find the employees to be very friendly. It has a lot of options but was lacking in art books (instructional type stuff) and also light on philosophy or religions other than Islam and Christianity. I would have liked to see more Hindu books or educational art books on drawing, painting, or color theory.

  • Eren Yeager

Amazing bookstore! There’s not many bookstores here in Tampa, so it’s refreshing that there’s a local Barnes & Noble. Many great book, games and collectibles!! There were bible tracts in the Wiccan books, but don’t worry - we had it covered. We took them home as a souvenir from our Barnes & Noble trip.

  • Shaara Barron

Great variety. Great recommendations of books per genre. Very helpful and friendly staff who are accommodating and able to answer lots of questions. Also have lots of gift items too. A little pricey compared to some online shops, but nice to still have a brick and mortar bookstore in our community.

  • Essence Kintsugi

The store was clean and well stocked on books from Spiritual development to Money Management. The customer service was great. As soon as you enter the store you are greeted with smiles and assistance. Their were some books out of place probably due to the previous foot traffic before me.

  • Natalia Espino

The cafeteria attention is the best of the place. The customer service of the library is bad. The main problem is a lady who likes to treat children badly. is always stalking to shout the rules of the place. I think it's very good to remember the rules but their manners are unacceptable

  • terre tulsiak

I still enjoy shopping for books, always able to find plenty to want/buy. 10% coupon pays for itself immediately! Tip: they will check you out at cafe, too! Only complaint is lack of employees, those present seem harried and not terribly interested-in books or customer engagement.

  • Kerri Snell

Love that there is a Starbucks in this Barnes & Noble. With a Cafe to sit at! And read before you buy or just to sit read, relax and forget about your troubles. The employees were so nice at the Starbucks in here and the book store is lovely and quaint. Can't wait to go back!

  • Richard C

Excellent place. Friendly and helpful staff. For some reason this B&N always feels more comfortable than the many others I have visited. Great layout and great selection. Only wish is that they had a small section of CDs as well. Other than that easily a five star location.

  • Abe Parson

This is the best bookstore in Tampa. They have everything or can get it. The membership is worth it for the discounts for sure. The coffee shop and the vibe of the place is just right. I really enjoy hanging out here when I want to get away from other stuff. Cool place.

  • N AE

Used to love to get there but the way they behave is rude these days. Esspecially the manager. They sell product with missing parts and i could not able to return the product back because there were no package. So buying books fine, but buying toys and puzzles, no way?

  • Jessica Brandes

Nice store, good selection. Great place to get gifts for others or things for yourself. Their cafe is also nice. The membership is worth it especially if you frequent the store often. Great customer service and very clean store and bathrooms.

  • Nathaniel Doromal

This doesn't feel like a Barnes and Nobles with the odd layout, and the fact that no chairs, tables, or cafe exists here. While coming here with my kids, my immediate thought was "This is was the worst Barnes and Nobles I have ever been to."

  • Monique Calvert

In this day and age, you would think that brick and mortar retail stores would place more emphasis on customer satisfaction and unfortunately, this store is lacking in that area. I wanted to buy a book that was advertised on the B&N website

  • Kees Henzen

Always my favorite bookstore when I am in the USA. When you can't buy it here, it simply not available yet. Employees are always very helpful to look up the newest books for me. Together with the Coffee corner this is a great shop in Tampa

  • Miles Loss

One of the few brick and morter book stores. Great for browsing books and magazines on a Sat night. Snack bar for a coffee and cookie with a place to sit down and enjoy. Incredible kids section to introduce children to books and reading.

  • John Lee

No seating except in cafe. All coffee brewed on order, nothing stored pre-brewed which makes for a longer wait and hard seating. But covid-19 is the cause. No mandatory masks, but encouraged. No street exit to the left, right turn only.

  • Bells

Wonderful place with friendly staff and a lovely study / reading area in the back. Perfect for book lovers who need to study. Definitely coming back in the future! The gal who checked us out was lovely and greeted us with a warm smile.

  • Valerie Herrera

I stopped into this location since I was already in the area. There's no cafe in this location so I went to the Starbucks next store. The books are arranged in alphabetical order by genre. However there is not a bargain book section

  • Maria Wright

The manager Patty is AWESOME..Her customer service is beyond expectations!! Always helpful and takes the time to find what you are looking for . And is great with her staff..It is great to interact with someone that enjoys

  • Cynthia Palmisano

This bookstore is more current in literature than not. Anything I need B&N doesn't have they order for me. Comparing prices between the store and online, many times I get a better price at the store. Highly recommend B&N!

  • P F

Disappointed - not ONE book on Judaism. Two walls of Christian publications and maybe 5 books on Buddhism’s and one on Islam. I asked an employee to help me and she was very embarrassed as she couldn’t find anything.

  • Jess 094

The cafe experience is missed, but the layout is beautiful. In the same plaza you have Panera Bread and Starbucks which is great because you can buy a book and head out and grab a cup of coffee or a small bite.

  • Nighthawkadventure

I would give this one a five star because of how nice the staff it,but they don’t have a coffee place to sit and snack its very small in side. Other than that I found the cd i was looking for so thanks …

  • Jessica R

Very friendly staff. It felt quite crammed and like a maze though. I was disappointed in the kids section being so small with no chairs or tables for kids to read at like there usually is at Barnes and noble.

  • Steve Tamargo

The new location is bright and friendly and not homey at all with no seating or cafe. Also did not see that discount coffee table book section. I liked the old location on Dale Mabry a lot better. …

  • Jason Bartos

Moving locations so everything is out of place and the selection is reduced. Not taking any returns or exchanges. You're forced to go to another location or wait 6+ weeks for the new location to open.

  • Veronica Espinosa

This is a great place to come read and have me time. They don’t have to any couples devotional which was what I was looking for on this trip. I will definitely have a updated review in a few weeks.

  • Elena Christinne

We loooove Barnes and Noble. It's impossible not to. As an adult, I get to enjoy with my baby the children section. We got some gifts, manga and early reader that were buy one get the next 50%off.

  • Cade Harkey

i just went to this new Barnes and Noble location and I absolutely love it, i got lost a few times but for the size of it it totally encompasses everything the wire grass location is able to :)

  • Robert McLaughlin

Love this place. Bookstores are vanishing and I am glad this one is still here. Always has some great finds, anything from the under $10 shelf to the new releases. Never had a bad trip here.

  • M Mc

While there are other Barnes and Noble stores closer to home, this one has still been worth the drive. The atmosphere is always comfortable and am able to focus on studying or reading.

  • Harold Gallup

Staff is great!! Very customer centric!!! Selection is well rounded and if not in store they will get it ordered and shipped to you. Enjoy a coffee while you look over your purchase!!!

  • Liz Dunn

New store is very shiny and clean! Stopped in for a few Manga fir the boy, I'll be back on a day when I have more time to browse around and hopefully find a gem …

  • Juliana Klein

Even though im a 17 year olds not always am i on my phone i love to read my little sister love to go there with me and yesterday i bought here a wing of fire book

  • Sami

Small Barnes and nobles, great sections, full children’s section & a Starbucks cafe still despite the size means less book selection but priority on better books

  • F A

Nice small place but the cafe didn't have much options. The barista told us we dont have cold brew since it gets expired faster and gave me an americano instead.

  • Ana Karina

So clean and organized — i could spend all day on there it’s the perfect size , inviting and fresh! Friendly , helpful staff. Excited for my new read. …

  • Dorron Turner

Great selection of various books, magazines, toys, etc. Not as study friendly as others as they don't have the small desks, but still a VERY nice store.

  • Heidi Ryan

My daughter is addicted to manga and they have an awesome selection. I love bookstores, books ,books and more books . Can spend all day in one section.

  • K Argote

Love this place! Lots of good books and cool kawaii stuff that my daughter loves. Not to mention they have a Starbucks inside. Great place to study!

  • Ted Elliott

Typical B&N. Good selection of books. Music in the back of the store. Coffee and pastries shop available if you want a pause while shopping.

  • jason musial

Love Barnes and noble. Store clean and awesome. Sad this one is closing but happy that they will be opening another one closer to West shore.

  • Doug Fuller

My wife and friends used to meet there for coffee during covid and really enjoyed it, unfortunately the South Dale mabry is shutting down.

  • Shay Pasquotto-Sanchez

Sierra was super nice and professional. She made me a delicious iced coffee just as I requested. Definitely coming back to this location.
