Blue Lagoon Park in Durban, South Africa, is a picturesque and popular recreational area that offers a peaceful escape from the hustle and bustle of the city. Situated at the mouth of the Umgeni River, the park provides a stunning waterfront setting where nature and urban life harmoniously coexist. One of the standout features of Blue Lagoon Park is its scenic beauty. The park is enveloped by lush greenery, including grassy areas perfect for picnics, strolls, or simply unwinding by the water's edge. The riverbank is adorned with swaying palm trees, providing a tropical ambiance that's synonymous with Durban's coastal charm. Visitors to Blue Lagoon Park can enjoy a variety of activities. The park's well-maintained pathways are perfect for jogging, walking, or cycling while soaking in the views of the river and the ocean beyond. Birdwatchers will delight in the diverse birdlife that frequents the area, making it a great spot for capturing photos of native and migratory species. The park also serves as a starting point for the renowned Durban Promenade, a long stretch of paved walkway that hugs the coastline and offers breathtaking views of the Indian Ocean. This Promenade is a favorite for locals and visitors alike, providing opportunities for leisurely strolls, cycling, and taking in the sea breeze. For water enthusiasts, Blue Lagoon Park provides access to the river and the ocean. Kayaking, paddleboarding, and other water-based activities are popular here, making it a haven for those who enjoy being on the water. The park's proximity to the river mouth also makes it an ideal spot for fishing. Blue Lagoon Park perfectly encapsulates Durban's blend of natural beauty and urban leisure. Whether you're seeking a place to relax, engage in outdoor activities, or simply enjoy the serenity of the waterfront, this park offers a wonderful escape that captures the essence of coastal living.

Absolutely beautiful park area, was very relaxing, its just that people need to realize it's a public space, so give others a space as well when utilizing the space..... People often play soccer here and many times it interups other families on the site, some people often get interrupted whilst enjoying a meal with their families..... So my advice is just be more careful n stick to ur space that u have set up. All in all its a wonderful place to send ur time...

Many love this place for its affordable food. The restaurants are right on the bank of the lagoon. It's really in an awesome location with access to both the lagoon as well as the pier. A romantic walk along the pier can be taken especially when the sun sets. It's a fairly safe place to go, as it's always extremely busy. A small flea market also forms part of this park. This park is frequented by plenty of out door people who enjoy braais.

The place is legendary for meeting with family and friends and socializing. Recent upgrades have made it more attractive but there is too much congestion during the busy periods. Security has increased but patrons still litter the area with alcohol bottles and left overs from their feasts. If you like fishing whilst having a picnic then this in an ideal spot but beware of the vagrants who can sometimes become a bit too much to handle.

Many people enjoying themselves, gazebos braai. The pool once used for model boat and yacht racing now has a boat swan doing rides . Always enjoy being near flowing big expanse of water. Not good the evidence of city street litter on the river banks lots of plastic especially plastic fizz drink bottles. Parking is available under fig trees but caution the birds do art. Be aware on entry car might be searched for alcohol possession.

Attended the Bunny Chow Barometer competition.. The vibe was awesome.. Live music & entertainment.. Tasted a few bunny chows.. Some were very good & a few were not good .. Lots of giveaways by Coca Cola... Free coke tasting on entrance.. Oh entrance was free ... There was also a bunny chow eating contest.. live comedy ND entertainment by Karou Charou & Muthu Murugan kept us entertained ND in stitches.. Good vibes

24 hour police and security force guarantees safety (zero incidents even in the wee hours), as clean as the public will allow it stay so and a perfect picnic/ fishing site. Nearby bird park, so the area is always bursting with life... Given favourable tide conditions, offers canoeists multiple entrances into the Umngeni river and parking is always available.

Very relaxed atmosphere but littered so badly that you constantly have to look where you are walking not to step on glass. The ablution facilities are also not kept very cleanmakomg it difficult to be there an entire day. There are multiple bins but without anyone enforcing the use of these unfortunately results in a very dirty Park not suitable for kids.

Great place to walk the dogs, just a pity about people constantly breaking bottles and fishermen leaving fishing line all over the place. That being said the staff does a great job cleaning it up every morning, but I do feel so proactive enforcement of by-laws would lesson their workload substantially and give more a pleasant encounter.

Always an amazing and refreshing experience. Only my third time going there today. Saw some beautiful classic cars such as a Valiant, Chevrolet Caprice, Datsun, Ford Cortina and a few others, as well as a modern Mustang. It's always so wonderful to walk along the river and sit on the pier having a snack and smelling the sea breeze.

Good place but now it's dangerous if it's after dark, won't recommend for small family gatherings. Rather have many people around than a few. Not so very clean toilets but inside the building there's paid toilets to enter at R2. No alcohol sold nearby besides the Hyper Pick n Pay which closes at 5pm on most days.

If you want a good picnic area around North beach, then this is a place for you. The place is vibey with a breath of fresh air from the ocean but it is also very crowded. If you're someone who doesn't like crowded places then you definitely gonna have a problem but overall it's very chilled and friendly.

  • Natasha Sewnath

Was very disappointed with food bought at the lagoon restaurant. Ordered mutton burger(R60) n fish with chips(40). Very bland n undercooked mutton pattie, stale bun. *The fish!.... was 10cm....n the chips, tasted like it was fried the previous day. Please, people "don't" buy from there.

  • Melissa Wynne

You have to go here when visiting Durban. Rich with Indian culture food. From anything pickled to devine Samoosa's. Here you'll find families fishing and enjoying a warm Sunday lunch together. Friendly atmosphere with the smell of braai and fresh ocean breeze in the air.

  • Sthembiso Mntungwa

Absolutely wonderful place to relax and enjoy the Sea Breeze. Variety of activities including running, cycling, canoeing and bowling. Alternatively enjoy your braai by the beach side. More visible security or police officers will be a well appreciated added feature

  • Bashkiren Naidoo

Not what it used to be. Lots of police presence so thats good. Doesn't stop people from consuming alcohol though. Best to leave early evening so you don't experience the bottle breaking and rowdy behavior from those who've over indulged.

  • Ketan Bindapersad

Absolutely lovely area. Amazing bird life. Just wish that most of the people that use this scenic place, would keep the place clean and pick up after themselves! Broken bottles, litter and bones are everywhere.

  • Sanjay Sewnarain

Beautiful picnic spot.. Or bring your model boat and enjoy the model yacht pond. Yoga on a Sunday morning 7am..lots to do. Great water birding :fish eagles, pelicans, cormorants, herons, gulls, egrets, & more.

Still a great family place to unwind. Although, I never stay after dark, as there are too many elements looking for easy pickings. Suggest day events with a large party …

Beautiful area for relaxing but sadly, upkeep of the area needs to be addressed. Poor lighting facilities if you need to chill out longer in the evening, toilets etc.

Nice place for family picnics
Picnic area
Leaves are left in a pile instead of being put in plastic bags immediately. Winds could scatter them again
