I read the reviews, went anyway. Bad Idea. Use any other location. During pick up, two women helped me. Nice, laughed and smiled a lot. They helped me get into the make I prefer. I didn't understand the reviews. Went to drop the car off. Walked into the office and the man behind the desk looked at me as if waiting for me to say something. I started to ask where i should park the car and he interrupted me and told me to "wait your turn". Somewhat confused and mad, there was no one else in line, I asked him to just tell me where to park the car. I drove the car down to the basement where a young man explained that the person checking in cars wasn't there, that I could leave the window down, keys on the seat and take a picture of the gas needle position and head back up stairs. Ok? I took the picture of the gas needle on full and 7 other pictures of the car, including one with the car in front of the budget sign, showing the license plate & my watch with the date & time - you know, just in case. I made my way with my luggage back to the top and into the office. The original man I spoke with explained that I needed my contract to check the car in, if I didn't;t have the contract I would have to go back down and get the keys. I travel A LOT and only use Budget, I know this is not the case and explained as much to him. When I asked him to look my rental up he literally pointed at a chair and said "sit over there". I told him the car was down stairs, that I have all the information I need and to have a great night. I walked out the door, opened my credit card app and disable it. Smart move. Later that evening Budget tried to charge me an additional $94. When I called customer service, the agent explained that I was charged for a full tank of gas and a late fee. I had to talk to a supervisor, send pictures and my receipt from the gas station - time I could have spent relaxing. Ah, good times. Never going back. If you read this far, I highly suggest you not use this Budget, there's another location a few stops down on the Red Line at Union Station. If you do go to this location, be sure to treat the women that work there well, they were REALLY nice.

Extremely unprofessional service. I was given a rental that I did not ask for. (Given a SUV when requested a compact vehicle) not only this was the problem, they also gave me a car on 2/8 of gas which allowed me to drive from the rental place to my destination of 4.5 miles before the gas light coming on alerting me I need gas. After the week has passed I returned the rental the same way I was given it. They charged me for gas and no one at the budget ion L St answers the phone. I played phone tag between the two phone numbers who share the same building. I called Avis and budget back to back for a week, trying to get an explanation of the charges and get them resolved. When asked to speak to a supervisor they stated she wasn’t available. Her name was Flanny on Fanny. I was told to contact another location—union station to get my claim resolved. Which made no sense because my receipt stated the car on 2/8 gas when I received it. This is not the first time I’ve rented from this specific location and had terrible customer service, or tried to contact the actual facility and couldn’t get through to anyone. They also are suppose to be open until 5pm but changed their hours to 4:45 because they don’t want to deal with customers for the last 15 mins. They open at 9 but won’t address any customers or answer the phone until 9:15a. If it wasn’t for the Convenience of this being the nearest rental car to my area I would not use them. But after this last encounter I rather drive to the airport and spend an extra $80-$100 then deal with this courteous and professional service of this entire location. Not one of the agents or supervisors are pleasant or helpful.convenience of this being the nearest rental car to my area I would not use them. But after this last encounter I rather drive to the airport and spend an extra $80-$100 then deal with the discourteous and unprofessional service of this entire location. Not one of the agents or supervisors are pleasant or helpful. I had to call after hours to get connected to a customer service agent to get my refund due to being charged for gas.

What a cluster. Was to pick up a car at closing but had to modify the reservation for pick up at opening the next day. Agent said that only the corporate call center can modify reservations. Ok, I call the corporate call center while in the lobby of this place and they tell me that oh no, only the franchise location can modify the reservation. The franchise agent is kind and tries to address by calling his boss who says no problem, we can honor the the original rate. I pick up the car next morning to be told that since I'm picking up the car the next morning (1 minute into opening verse 1 minute before closing the night before), the rate is more than double the original rate. The agent is about as kind or customer friendly as a fence post. I bring the car back the next morning (waiting for them to open btw) and am charged a third rate that is 25% higher than the second rate I was quoted. Wow! Three different rates despite being assured I would be given the original rate. Now that's a way to run a business! Car pick up was almost as entertaining. I'm given the damage slip by the not so customer friendly customer service rep saying that "Phil" checked the car out, here's all damage, sign it. I politely ask for the slip and the opportunity to check the car out before signing. I was informed that if it damage was there, Phil found it! I have so much reason to trust this franchise so far. Lo and behold, a scratch on the hood through the paint that wasn't on the slip. Phil may not have had enough coffee that morning. Rent a horse or a bike, or hitch hike. The experience will be much more pleasant than dealing with the L St Budget Car Rental location.....

We had a terrible experience both before the reservation and when trying to pick the car up. We needed two car seats - an infant and a toddler - and called them two weeks before the reservation to confirm they would have them. They said to call back a day before so they could be sure to have them in stock. We called the day before and they informed us that actually, they don't carry infant car seats at all. This was an issue, but we were able to bring our infant seat along at the last minute and lug it around the airport. When I arrived at the car rental place a few minutes after opening, I was told that they didn't have any cars available and they were waiting to get a shipment in from the airport. I got put on a list along with the other people waiting. There was no ETA on when cars might be available. When I asked if I could just come back a couple hours later, I was told that I could, but there was no guarantee that they wouldn't run out of cars again and have the exact same issue. I had to leave for an event so couldn't wait around indefinitely. From there, we had to take some inconvenient travel options the rest of the day because I didn't have time to trudge back to the car rental agency to see if they might possibly have any cars available for me. Them not having cars significantly altered our plans for our trip and made it difficult to travel around the city as we had two young children with us. I would never recommend this Budget Car Rental to anyone, and will refrain from using any Budget Car Rental in the future - my experience was that bad.

If you really need a car, in certain time and day: DO NOT CHOSE THIS LOCATION. First, I want to mention that I live 3 blocks from them and - EVERY DAY - there is a big line outside and I could not understand why until this weekend. I had friends over and I decided to rent a car to drive them around the city. I booked and paid the reservation online to get the car at 9h30am. I arrived at the store at 9am and already there were 5 people - very mad - in front of me. The store had no cars available. Nothing. Zero. Nada! After me arrived another 4 groups... all of them with reservation for 9am, 9h15, 09h30 and no cars. Unfortunately, I could not leave because I had to get the car, but other people left and had problems to cancel their reservation. It took me 3h30min to get a car. I left that place at 12h30pm. Half of the day was lost. Besides this lack of respect selling more than they have and make the client to wait for hours for a car, I have never been attended for such unpolite and rude staff. Also, the car I got was dirty inside, smelled bad and was bumped on the side, besides being completely misaligned and almost jeopardizing our safety. Budget is a fine rent car. But this location I do not recommend. Believe me, if you rent with them and read this review, you will remember me when you are in the line waiting for a car that they do not have it.

Horrible Service. They only have one agent working at a time and the agent was incredibly rude. They only let one person inside at a time and the wait time was +30 mins. They did not even let the old lady with a walker go inside and site down, made her wait under the sun. The person that the agent was checking in left to go to the restroom elsewhere (as they do not have one) and we all had to wait for him to come back 15 mins and the agent would not take anyone else in the meanwhile. In addition to waiting 35 mins inline, agent was incredibly rude to us because we asked him why he was not letting anyone in while we were waiting for the other customer to come back from the restroom. He came out and shouted at all the customers inline. While we were being helped inside, even though the other agent offered to take over, he stayed, and was being extremely rude and unhelpful. He did not assist with any of our requests to add a second driver (even though we had paid for it). He first said it was free and made us sign several papers than when we realized it was not included, he was completely unapologetic and told us that he would not give back the papers. Later on, he threatened us with canceling our booking completely that who would not give us a car. This man was completely outrageous. Worst experience ever.

I've rented cars from Budget for a while and a few times at this location before without much problems, but the last time I was overcharged $85. I rented a car with them about a month ago. As usual I checked the car but neglected to check the gas on this one occasion. I usually check the gas but It was a bit busy. I stood in line for over an hour was late in picking my sister up from my place. I drove straight home (I live in Crystal City. A 10 min drive) and notice the tank was 1/8 full. The agreement said it was 7/8. Probably just a typo. So I phoned budget a few times but nobody answered. Upon returning the car I let the attendant know and was assured it would be changed. They never sent me a receipt, but found out through my CC alerts that I was overcharged $85. I went back to resolve the issue and was told the supervisor could fix it but the supervisor wasn't there. So the clerk gave me the supervisors phone number. The supervisor answered and said he would fix the problem. I gave him my agreement info and never heard from him again. I tried calling additional times but no answer. Guess I should have driven back there the same day I rented, stood in line for another hour, and gotten this resolved in the first place. I definitely won't be rent from here or any Budget/Avis ever again!.

I regret not having read the reviews before renting a car here. I relate to every bad experience told in the reviews! We arrived on time with a reservation (and already paid). There was already a line of people waiting, as there were no cars available. The staff was very rude, just saying that we should wait outside until there were cars available, that they did not know how long that would be, and that reservations are only tentative. These people need to learn the concept of what a reservation is... and in the case you have to make people wait for so long (hours!!), at least they should provid for a waiting area, not forcing to wait outside regardless of the weather and of the customer´s age. Once it was our turn, only one person per group can enter, again, regardless of weather and age. Needless to say, once "a" car was available, it was not the one we had made a reservation for. Our reservation said that there was another driver paid/included and they denied it. The staff even threatened to tear our reservation voucher if we did not accept their terms and conditions. The staff is totally rude and it is obvious that like this is their every day business. Customer service is so poor it is not service at all. Would not go again and definitely do not recommend it.

The car reservation had been made well in advance, precisely 2 months and 3 days before it was needed. On the day of collection, I arrived at 10:45 for the scheduled 11:00 pickup. To my dismay, I encountered Will, who I must say was the most impolite individual I have ever encountered. He informed me, in a rather brusque manner, that there were no cars available, and I was fifth in line, expecting a wait of at least 30 minutes. I proceeded to pose two questions to Will: why there were no cars available when I had made the booking weeks ago, and how he could predict a 30-minute delay in the absence of cars. However, rather than responding to my queries, Will simply raised his voice and instructed me, along with another waiting customer, to "CLOSE THE DOOR." It was only after enduring a delay of 50 minutes that I was eventually able to depart with the car. Upon returning home, I noticed an additional charge of £105 on my credit card statement. To my surprise, this charge is categorized as a "non-package item," and I remain uncertain about the nature of this charge, as I had initially believed that I had settled the payment in full. Budget/Avis you were a shambles, you just don't understand what customer service is. PS the car was fine.!!

Here's the problem with this location - No consistency, rude, car windows never cleaned properly and you now have to wait an hour for a car if you did not pick it up at 9am. They continue to oversell the cars and we have to wait for cars to be returned and turned around. Then albeit you are a FastBreak customer Will tells you that you have to give your credit card and ID. After he tells me he doesnt see my fastbreak...but my receipt indicates it.. He cuts you off when you speak...Here's the problem. This location needs to be more humble... the customers renting cars that are in line all have the same story (except 2 out of 17) .... I wont be back at this location and as a hotel manager I will discourage any use of this location with my fellow hoteliers... RUDE ... and then going to charge me $40 late fee because I chose to keep the car 2 more days. You charging me $40 more to Spend $117 more? why? If someone would answer the phone when I called to extend maybe I could have extended... The late fees should be a credit to your loyal customer.. Get it together and stop snapping at your customer. And give the receipts to the customer when they return the car not email to see your extra charges that takes 48 hours to adjust!

Much better than on previous occasions! I have previously had bad experiences at this location (but decided to risk renting from there again because it's convenient) - this time the experience was much better. The woman who handled my booking was friendly and efficient, the car was fine, and the car return process went well. My earlier problems had included surly staff and attempts to overcharge, including assuming -- without even asking, or checking -- that a car had been returned completely empty when in fact it was full. This location had also previously frequently had computer problems, meaning that picking up a car had been like watching paint dry, and getting a receipt was almost impossible. Both of these things went smoothly this time. I hope that my positive experience this time shows that Budget have taken earlier criticisms to heart, and made a real effort to improve. It does also seem there may have been some staff changes which may have helped (or maybe I just got lucky in the staff members on duty that day). I've given 4 stars rather than 5 only because I don't trust Budget's central systems to get the final billing right, but I'm hoping I'll be pleasantly surprised on that score too.

One star for the guy who got my car and one star for the fact that i even got a car. Wanted to give this place a chance. Now i see why the ratings are so bad. Checked in and waited abt 30 minutes before they said they didnt have my car available. My options were to either pay an additional $12 a day to get another car now or “slowly” wait until the type i requested became available. I was in a hurry and definitely did not have time to “slowly” wait for my car type to be available. Truthfully, I feel like the additional charge shouldve been waived. Once I accepted the car, it took another 15 minutes for them to get my car. Had to remind the front desk that I was still there waiting for them to bring it to the front. it seemed like only one guy was running back and forth to get cars. He was apologetic to me for the wait and obviously annoyed at the lack of assistance from his employers. Did a quick walkthrough of the car.... slightly dirty on the outside with a handful of random scratches (nothing big enough for them try and fix so i understand). The inside had a lingering smell of musty perfume, and there was a candy wrapper on the floor.

Reserved a car for 5 days (pickup 9a, drop-off 10a on 5th day). Paid $339, happy with original reservation. Day-of, there was a line that kept us waiting nearly an hour (person in front of us said “it’s always like this). Picked up 951a, forcing us to leave late. Lady at counter asked if we’d like insurance, and we opted yes, thinking this would add about $50 like other rental places. Car was good, though not clean. I still detailed the car before returning it. Upon drop-off, we were charged an ADDITIONAL $479 for the insurance we opted into. Additionally, we were done a “favor” by the staff by not charging us an extra day because we dropped off at 10a (as per my reservation) not by 951a. I made a reservation from 9a day 1 to 10a day 5. Then I’m almost penalized for having the car for less than that period? Opted into nearly $500 in coverages and Budget doesn’t think it’s prudent to tell their customers they’re being charged this much?! Make it make sense. So disappointed. Went into this expecting to pay $338-400. Left over $800 in the hole. Never again.

I wish we could give zero stars. You're better off buying your own car. Seriously. Worst customer service ever. We just reserved a car from here and went to pick it up. Our plans changed so we asked if we could bump our return time back and the agent refused and said that was not possible. He said the reservation had already been "used" so we could not change it even though we were standing right at the counter and hadn't even picked up the car. He just told us to refer to the paperwork. Then he didn't give clear directions on where to go pick up the car, just mumbled to go around to the garage and we'll see it. We went to the garage and no one was there to assist us. We walked around the entire garage and finally found a person cleaning a car who told us to just go pick up the car yourself. We got the car and were driving out when finally a woman who seems like she should have been at the pick up window who was out around the corner smoking a cigarette said she needed to sign our papers before we could leave. Horrible experience.

Wish I could give this office zero stars. This was the absolute worst experience I have ever had renting a car. I highly encourage you to take your business anywhere else. The office overbooked itself and didn't have the car I already prepaid to rent. The office also didn't have a sufficient supply of cars for the amount of people who reserved one (and prepaid) and had to turn people away who came after I did and the employees didn't seem to care enough to provide alternative solutions, creating an incredibly hostile and stressful environment. I was lucky to receive the bare minimum and take the last car the office had available. Not only was the customer service experience terrible, but I was given an electric vehicle with no guidance on how to charge it. The vehicle also didn't come with its own charger which is extremely dangerous, allowing the customer to use up all the charge without being able to charge anywhere. Yikes.

  • Edon Hoppener

The worst kind of customer service. Massively unhelpful, rude, and inefficient. We arrived around 8.45 for a 9am car rental. There were already approximately 20 people queuing outside. After about 45 minutes of waiting, we were told that we wouldn't be able to rent a car due to the fact that we had paid for the booking online with a debit card, and that they would be unable to swap this out with another person's card. What made it worse was the staff member's attitude. Condescending, aggressive and basically told us - its you're fault, get out. He then refused to provide any kind of refund. After calling the company they said it would take up to 10 business days for a refund. That a business is able to create a website where you can pay for a product on one type of card, only be told upon arrival that you can't use that same card, is beyond me. I'd avoid using this rental company at all costs if possible

  • Jonathan Grant

I first want to mention that the staff at the L St. location were kind, helpful, and respectful. However, while I recognize the difficulties of operating a multi-use car service during a pandemic, this was the worst car rental experience I've had. The location I went to did not have the vehicle class I reserved. It took an hour from when I arrived until when I drove away. I received a car that smelled like smoke, had splashes of a beverage on the passenger side, and did not have a full tank of gas, requiring me to fuel up before beginning my journey. The lack of ability to drop the car off after hours is also entirely inconvenient. As a customer service experience, I have not felt more forgotten as the customer. I will not be utilizing Budget in the future, nor by extension, Avis. Regardless of the competitive prices of this operation, it is not worth dealing with being treated like an afterthought.

  • Leanne Anderson

This is my first time renting a car from this location. The pickup process was very smooth. When I showed up to return the car there were 7 people in line on the sidewalk. On the windows were signs stating only 1 person in the building at a time as well as updates mask mandate information. I finally got in after an hour + of waiting only to be told that returns are inside the garage on the 3rs floor!! There was only 1 woman working doing it all. She was amazing and handling her part with ease. However the management was lacking on the week of Christmas with all the people traveling for the holidays why did they only schedule 1 person to work!!! There was a gentleman that went in & out of the back office a few times while I was waiting but he did NOT step in to help out. I’m really disappointed in the lack of communication! At the least hang a sign with direction beside all the other signs!!!

  • Gene Miller

The help was very good despite there being few or no vehicles to rent. When we did get one, the fuel tank was less than 3/4 full. We were told that we only needed to have half a tank when we brought it back to the Reagan Airport location. We drove about 60 miles and put a little over two gallons in before we returned it. There was more gas in the tank when we dropped it off than when we returned it. However, you charged us $15.99, plus .60 in tax. We were told that your employee would make a note so we wouldn't be charged for less than a full tank and we still were. That is why I am giving you a poor review. If you hadn't done that I would give you an 8 or 9, despite the long wait (45 minutes) for a car that was prepaid. NOTE ADDED ON NOVEMBER 12: I got a response from the manager and they refunded the charges so I changed the rating from one star to four stars. Thank you.

  • Manicia Standard

The staff at The Budget L St location were absolutely remarkable. They answered & handled every question or concern with ease. The gentlemen at the counter were awesome. I can’t remember their names, but the both of them were helpful. When the vehicle which was reserved was not available, they accommodated me to the fullest and made sure I was satisfied before I left for my bday celebration. Everything was handled with care, and even upon returning my vehicle, they remembered me. So that really made me feel special. I think the young guy’s name was Will who brought me my vehicle. He handled the cars with care, made sure the car was spotless & explained everything I needed to know about the vehicle. When I returned, he asked about my trip and made sure that everything went ok. You don’t really get that type of service too Much nowadays. So that was really appreciated.

I had unfortunately come into Washing Union Station and rented the car at a location 2 miles away from the station -- (and the location I had at the time of the registration turned out to have mover several blocks away - I discovered after the taxi had left me off at the wrong address) Anyway, when I got to the correct address, the woman who greeted me was very pleasant - and changed the return address for the Union Station return, she also got me signed up for the rewards program, and saved me $50 on the three week rental. Anyway, the experience was very pleasant, and something that is all too often rare these days - and will keep me coming back to Budget. Also when I did return the car, they were nice, and in that I had a lot of luggage drove me from the return location at Union Station to the front of the station making much easier to get to the departure area.

PLEASE read the reviews of this and of Avis before thinking about renting a car, I wish I had done. We booked to pick up a car at 9:30 in the morning. After waiting in line for over an hour and being told they had ‘run out of cars’ we gave up as we had a flight to catch up and had to make alternative arrangements which ended up being so expensive as it was so last minute. It’s such a shame as we have used Avis and Budget a lot over the last couple of years and have never had an issue like this in any country we’ve been to. The staff were less than helpful and really not apologetic at all. It seemed like this was just a usual occurrence for them and judging from the reviews I think it often does happen. Given there is an effective booking system in place that works all over the world, I would recommend not letting people book cars that clearly don’t exist.

  • Suny Lu

I arrived 20 minutes before my reservation time a Saturday morning, and found a queue till the end of the bloc. Like all the 20+ customers, I had to wait 1 hour 45 minutes to pick up the car. There was no apologies when it was my turn. When I asked when I should return the car, the agent said the same time as I picked up the car, but she didnt change the return time on the contract so I wasted almost 2 hours to pick up the car but also 2 hours of the car usage. When I returned the car, they wanted to charge a flat fee of $15 because I didnt keep the fuel receipt. However, they could easily tell that the fuel was 3/4 full, as when I picked it up. Overall, it was a very unpleasant and stressful experience, and it has got worse compared to my previous experience with this agency, which I will no long use.

  • Scott Love

At least we got a car. hence, the 1 star. Find another place to rent a vehicle. We had a valid reservation for a one-day rental for $61.72, confirmed by this very agency two days before pick-up. Upon arrival we were told this was not a valid reservation and we would need to re-book. The best rate we were given was $154.95! We did not notice until later that this price included the full insurance package, which we were never given the opportunity to decline. Our mistake, but we were getting pressed for time. We were definitely scammed! Have written to Avis/budget corporate headquarters. Got nothing more than a corporate response. Check out their reviews on YELP! and then find another place to get a car! They should close this location down as it does a disservice to the car companies!

  • Ricardo E

Thou the clerk was really nice to make sure we were getting a good size car at the beginning of our rental, I got really disappointed when returning the car to learn that a new charge of $200+ was added: supposedly because roadside assistance; I explained to the clerk when returning the car that I never requested roadside assistance, and that it was really strange that we were talking about that charge at the end of the rental and not at the begging, so we’re not happy with this and would not consider renting again until this is resolved — specially because we don’t have a car and we constantly rent cars, so a while back we decided to have roadside assistance and car rental insurance included in our credit cards. Disappointed!

  • Danyelle ORourke

Horrible customer service. If you want to experience what a waste of human beings are, walk into this Budget location. Now I understand how a car rental company can have such terrible reviews on Google. Came in 45 minutes early for my prepaid reservation to fill out the paperwork, was told to come back at my reservation time. Came back at my reservation time and had to wait over an hour before anyone would help me. I finally am acknowledged by an employee and told there are no more cars available. I planned out my day around my reservation time and still haven't received my car now going on 2.5 hours after. Never again, AVOID at all costs rent from somewhere else.

  • Ronald Lewis

The rental agent at this location is not friendly. I advise going to Reagan National Airport to rent. I returned my car with a full tank of gas. The return clerk somehow noted that it was not full and I received additional charges. I brought it to the attention of the rental agent and she asked me to produce a gas receipt which I did. She then still tried to say the tank was not full because of the span of time between the date stamp on the gas receipt and my rental return time. After explaining the tank was full, she called the return clerk and he told her the tank was indeed full. She corrected my receipt, and I thanked her and she said nothing.....

  • Diana Lehman

Showed up an hour early, and returned an hour early and they charged $50 extra dollars and didn't even verbally tell me. Tried to address this during return and they said it was too late. They don't answer their phone. Very chaotic rental experience. All other rental places will explain policies, they just throw you a piece of paper to sign without explanation, and then rush you out of the facility. I like to sit in the car for a few minutes to adjust it and learn where everything is, they rushed me and others out. They bring the car out and leave it where you MUST drive off with it immediately.

  • Terence O'Rourke

I had a great experience. I set up everything in advance and was out the door ten minutes after I turned up at 6pm. The car was a Hyundai, which is usually a snore, but it had a back up camera, good sound system and got 49mpg (at least according to its computer, but I only used 8 gallons of gas to go to central PA and back). The return was super easy. I did have to put some air in the tires after the tire pressure light came on, but the pressures were not bad when I checked them. It was pricey, but Thanksgiving weekend in downtown DC an easy walk from my apartment more than makes it worth it.

Reviews on here are pretty accurate. - Expect to wait 1 hr + outside as even though you’ve reserved a car they won’t have them, nor will they care whether you’re in the rain. - Don’t expect the staff to give you any information, they’re not accustomed to even so much as a smile, just wait or better yet don’t book here in the first place. - Expect the car to be dirty and empty of gas, and no the staff won’t care, just document it and use your dark arts skills to return it with the same amount. The past three years reviews are the same so I guess it is what it is, buyer beware!

  • Michael Martin

This was among the worst customer service experiences I have had. When I showed up at 11:15 for my 11:30 reservation, I was told there were no cars, that there *might* be other cars I. 30 minutes, and that we all had to stay out in the rain or lose our places in line. The desk guy said this was a “normal” definition of a reservation, just like a restaurant, and refused to call other locations. When I explained the situation to other customers joining the line, he accused me of causing trouble. I will not rent from any Budget location in the foreseeable future.

  • mike casmer

The bad review was because agent that booked car asked what time will we arrive in Washington DC. I said 4pm. He said no problem. The problem is, at the train station where my car was, closes at 4:30. We all know trains are NEVER late or delayed. Well when my never late train arrived at 6pm, I was stranded. I was supposed to drive to Pittsburgh and had a hotel there already paid for. Now I had to get a hotel in DC because I had no car. Kudos to the staff in the morning. They got my car and we did get to walk around the capital a bit. Bad phone opps.

  • Rupa C

The first reservation I had was cancelled because there were no vehicles available. I made a 2nd reservation for the next day and experienced car trouble 45 mins later. I had to exchange the car, missed my event and wasted 3 hours that Budget would not adjust for my return time. Then when I brought this to budget's attention, Jason in customer service kindly offered to refund a single day rate for the inconvenience and adjust part of the time to make drop off easier for me without charge. At return of rental, the price adjustments had not been made.

  • Craig Leelman

Please only consider using this location if it is your only possible option. Not the typical Avis experience I am used to. The car took a significant amount of time for them to bring down and the inside looked like someone had vomited at one point in the back seat. I had requested a 7AM pickup but didn't end up leaving until past 730 - when I returned it at 7:27AM the next day (less than 24 hours), they tried to charge me for an extra day. This, of course, wouldn't have been a problem if they had offered after hours return (which they don't).

  • Melanie T

Shockingly terrible experience. We had a 10am reservation and by 12pm they said it was probably going to be another 1-2 hour wait. There was a line out the door of frustrated customers and if you got out of line you lost your spot for the car you had reserved. Why take reservations for cars if you don’t have any cars? Ended up paying $150 for a rideshare to take us where we needed to be since it was a time sensitive event. Wish I could give 0 stars. Would not recommend.

Stefan is extremely rude and unprofessional. I was a denied a rental car for no good reason. He claimed there was a DMV issue with my license which was not true. I called DMV and there are no issues or restrictions with my license. I tried to get more information from Stefan and he was extremely dismissive and then proceeded to take a phone call while I stood there waiting for an answer. His attitude was terrible and he could use come customer service training.

The worst company I’ve ever used, we rented from the NY office and the girl was asleep when we walked in. She then told us they didn’t have any cars even though we reserved online. When I pointed out she hadn’t even apologized she said “Budget should apologize to me because I’m getting customers complaining at me all day!” Waited for an hour for the car to arrive. 4 days later I booked a car from Washington and they over charged me by $50!

  • Gabriela Luque

This office has a single counter for budget (another one for Avis) so you will almost always have to wait in line. If lucky, that will be 20 minutes; if not, an hour. Most vehicles received are dirty or they need maintenance. I've rented at least 3 times here; after all those experiences, I would say the service and cars are just 'ok'. I would definitely shop around to see other options that provide better value.

  • Ted Romano

Picking up and dropping off my reservation could not have been smoother. Good service is rare these days except maybe for big buck millionaires, but at this car rental agent Kirstein Mejias was professional, skilled and cheerful to me and everyone who came in. Luckily for me, I live in the area, so I can and will return for my car rental needs (living downtown, having a car of my own would not be a wise choice).

  • Saurabh Wani

Apparently, this center does not have Fastbreak setup. So, wait time in the queue is long but this center has the best operational hours compared to other budget/ Avis centers in the DMV area (except airports) but again getting your rental from airport is expensive as compared to non-airport locations. If they setup fastbreak, this will be my go-to place for rental cars every time I’m in DMV area.

  • DJ TankBeats

Although the wait was long to pick up the car Jackie at the Front Desk was accommodating and patient. Derrick the runner was nice and working hard, seems as if he’s always working hard, give that guy a break. The car was nice and clean. The Equifax check if you’re using a debit card is a bit much though. That’s an unnecessary inquiry on your credit report.

  • Burt Melzer

Standard Budget rental car. They were very nice and helpful. Do plan to wait even if you book in advance though unless you're lucky and the only person in the store front at the time. I spent about 45 minutes waiting to pickup a car I had already booked which I thought was a little long. The car itself was as described and worked well without any issues.

  • Samantha Curtis

Decently priced because we booked through Costco. However don't expect them to pick up the phone (I tried calling no less than 10 times). They also took forever to bring us our car and the guy helping us, while friendly, literally had to go check if they forgot to bring our car up. Car was mostly clean when we received it but it worked just fine.

  • Katie Bell

I was so scared about renting a car through Budget at this location after reading so many bad reviews but I actually had a pretty seamless experience. No line when I went in on a weekday at 1pm. They didn't have the car type I reserved but I got a midsized car for only $5 more per day. Service was friendly. Return was super easy and efficient.

  • Adam Lucia

Did not have car ready at reserved time. Waited a full hour beyond reservation time, and the car provided was not the size I reserved. Customer service was rude and apathetic (seemed like this happens constantly and they're tired of taking the flak). I rent cars about once a month, and this is pretty solidly the worst experience I've had.

  • Kevin Wilson

Worst car rental place I’ve rented from. Had a reservation for over a month and waited outside the office for 2+hours because they were short on cars. People were not getting cars they requested due to shortage. A person returning a car said she went through the same thing yesterday. Don’t take reservations if you can’t honor them!

  • Titangal69

Update to my earlier my evaluation. This time we left mid day on a Saturday, Walked in and had the car within about 5 minutes. Much better experience! May have been the time of day (10 am on a Saturday). Service seemed efficient but was slow. We were about 10th in line upon arrival. Took close to 60 minutes for us to get the car.

  • Yasin T

We had a family trip starting from DC and would like to rent a car for a week. Our experience was awesome. We haven’t seen any issue from beginning to end. Person in the counter was knowledgeable and courteous. We have rented a full size car but they have upgraded this to a brand new small suv and we liked it a lot.

  • Jeremy Jackson

Worst car rental experience I’ve ever had. Shut the garage door on me as I left. Tire was low and needed air three times on the way to Richmond, VA. Would not help with a replacement. Two tires were so low on tread Discount Tire wouldn’t service them. Had to replace on my own dime and still waiting for a refund.

  • Matt

Service was OK at collection, car was not clean and after driving for a while lot of road noise and checked rear tyres and virtually no tread, car was dropped off and this was highlighted to the staff who didn't seem bothered. Better cleaning and servicing of vehicles required prior to giving to paying public!

  • Remco Loevendie

Agent at pick up was borderline rude. Just got my receipt after drop off and was charged for refuelling while i provided a receipt for the gas I got. In addition the receipt showed the tank was at 8.4 gallons at pick up and at 8.7 gallons at drop off. I would expect this from rent-a-wreck not from budget.

  • Georgia Laurette

Dress for the weather because everyone has to wait outside. They also have very strict business hours so if you aren’t careful you’ll have to find a place to park your rental for an extra night + pay for the inconvenience. The employees are nice enough, but the facility is terrible.

  • Kristin Valdez

I had a great experience here. They were out of compact cars so gave me a crossover at no extra charge. I rented Friday night until Sunday afternoon and no issues with pick up or drop off. The staff was friendly and the car was in great shape. I’ll be using them more often!

  • Andree Stockhowe

Impolite staff didn't explain rental conditions, car wasn't clean with lots of hairs of previous users (pink colored hairs which were very easy to see, find and remove). Windows not cleaned. Not recorded previous damages at front which were recorded after I requested.

  • Jax Wats

Dreadful experience- avoid this Budget location. Counter Service man called Will was the rudest ever I have experienced. Car booked and prepaid months in advance and none available until customers returned, so had well over an hour wait. Unhelpful Will! Never again!

  • Ashley Sebesta

I was really nervous to rent here because of the other reviews but honestly had a great experience! Friendly and helpful staff, clean car - the exact kind I had reserved with no wait. Charges and rates were what I expected. Good experience overall.

  • Kal Alali

I should have considered Erin's review of this place (budget/enterprise) saying "terrible customer service". On 4th August I experienced that bad customer service with an attitude; my so-called "reserved" car was delayed 2 hours and on top

  • Jake Jones

Reserved a car in June for a one way rental and was told no cars were available, which to me completely defeats the purpose of reserving one in the first place. I was told that the manager called everyone that had a reservation to let them

  • Jay Tooch

DO NOT RENT HERE! I booked a car directly with Budget on Wednesday for a Thursday morning pickup. When I arrived there was a line of probably 8 people who all had reservations, but the didn’t have any cars. How does that happen? Ridiculous.

  • Melissa Marin

If you want to avoid getting charged extra for upgrades you do not want and to see an agent by the name of Darren completely micromanage his female colleagues, avoid this location at all costs. What an awful customer service experience. I

  • Rose Turlock

I gave this rating in view of the overall products and service provided. In my latest can renting, the vehicle was not reasonably maintained (many minor body damages and 4 worn tires) at a Washing, DC downtown office. The major disservice

  • Jennifer Hanley

Terrible experience! We paid extra to rent at this location instead of the airport but when we arrived they had closed even though we were in time for our reservation! There were three other people waiting to return cars and no one knew

  • Vincent Badders

Location was great, price not bad. I know there were several things going on in DC so demand was high. Not thrilled the associate who helped me. He had a little attitude when he asked for my CC and I said I never have to show it at the

  • Vincent Devillaine

These employees don't give a damn of customers. They're aggressive, lazy and unfriendly. They make you understand right away that you're disrupting their relax time. Worst customer attention I ever got. Look at these reviews: the vast

  • Lanae Holbrook

I have had several great rental cars from Budget/Avis Georgetown Park. The staff is friendly, helpful and polite and they get you a car quickly. The cars are very clean and a good price. I highly recommend Budget/Avis Georgetown Park.

  • Laurie LaConte

Disaster. Had booked several weeks in advance. Arrived to find a long line out the door with people waiting. No cars available. Were not allowed inside the building. Occasionally a guy came out to tell us that there were no cars and

  • Buck Downs

Be prepared to wait outside on the sidewalk for 70-90 minutes to get the car. It will be filthy, so be prepared to clean it before you take your trip. The people are nice enough, but completely understaffed and overwhelmed.

  • Harshit Mahajan

Pathetic service and worst customer service experience. Marilyn was so rude and didn’t have answers to basic questions about availability. Ended up waiting for 3 hours to get a car lower tier than what I booked and paid.

  • John Brunschwyler

Beware A reservation (even prepaid) does not mean your car will be available when agreed. Also we were not informed that the car availability was delayed (via email or text). Expect an hour or more wait without warning

  • Diego Arimany

Painfully slow. 45 minutes into my reservation time the employee still took 10 to set herself up (place smart phone down, keys, cream one and cream two, drink water... And go back to leave her purse).

  • Connor Barry

Terrible customer service at this location. Avoid this location if possible. Workers spend more time on their phone then they do with customers. Absurd rules and requirements to add extra drivers.

  • D. Lee Hinshaw Jr

I was very pleased with the way I was greeted and treated during the pickup of my rental. Also, pleased with the way my drop off was handled. I would recommend this Budget Car Rental site.

  • Daniel Kaeflein

Budget Car Rental from Washington DC to NYC was a real disaster. Drop off location was closed, pick up of a new car not honored, I was double-charged. What can go wrong, went wrong.

  • Nic Abraham

Disgusting rude servise. The staff are bully’s and known for this in the area. Allowing one customer per time in the store at a time during a heat wave. Warning go somewhere else’s.

  • Hassan Aldarbesti

I recently rented a car from Budget Car Rental and had a great experience overall. The staff was very friendly and helpful, and the location was convenient and easy to find.

  • Peng Wang (Richard)

I was told there is no car less than an hour before the pickup. If you can not provide the car, why would you accept the reservation. Completely a mess and ruin my plan.

  • jodie YOUNG

Dont do it is all i can say. We reserved a small car and were forced out with a dodge ram, 6pm, no lights or time to even learn how to drive such a beast.

  • Jessica Cruzan

We just picked up our car @ 10. The gave us the car on empty. We drove from dc to Alexandria only a 18 minute drive when the fuel light came one.

  • Duane Albert

Any difficult task you can think of would be easier than picking up a car the the Avis/Budget at 1908 L St. NW DC.

  • Jack Zimmerman

Overcharged by $65; even though the final terms of contract were clear. Will never use again.
