In a nutshell, our dinner on Christmas Day was a disaster. The published fixed menu had two choices of entree: Salmon or Lamb. Despite our 7:00 p.m. on-time reservation, the lamb was off the menu and replaced by a 12oz ribeye. The server was UNBELIEVABLY bad. After waiting for way too long, she flounced around to our table and dropped off one plate containing two corn muffins in front of my dining guest, not the middle of the table. Did that mean it was for both of us? Just him? What gives? There were rink-dink muffins tasted like something made with Jiffy corn muffin mix. I had one muffin and my friend had the other. The soup took FOREVER to come out. It was in a very large bowl. There was so little soup in the bowl (depth of about 1/4 inch) that one could not get a spoonful without having to scrape the dish. The soup itself was so cold it had developed a film on the top. The salad WAS A JOKE. It looked nothing like the salad on their website. There was such a minimal layer of spinach it could not even be considered a small side salad. I ate it in three or four fork-fulls. No choice of dressing. The steak, though adequate in size, was nothing to write home about. I considered it along the lines of what you can get at Golden Corral. It had a basic schmear of mashed potatoes under it. The creme brulee dessert was a rip-off. The ramekin was about 4 inches in diameter and the custard in it was 1/8th of an inch deep. I've seen more sauce put on something than what was offered as the main part of the dessert course. The service was UNBELIEVABLY SLOW. We started at 7pm and the check didn't come until 10pm when, as the last diners in the place, we were treated to observing the main lights coming on and cleaning crew start on the carpets before we left. Thank God we had a lot to talk about because 90% of the time we were just sitting there not eating and not drinking. At $85/person + tax and tip for this charade of a meal, we left completely unsatisfied. I began to wonder whether there was some kind of "rigged" deal where someone's church congregation ate free while the rest of us paid double and were served by the youth group. Completely unprofessional and shocking. Not only will I not eat there again, I will not consider having guests at the hotel. What kind of place would put up with a restaurant that bad in it?

Stellar Service by Jenny and Johnathan - A Five-Star Experience! I had the pleasure of dining at By George restaurant and bar in Atlanta recently, and I must say, it was nothing short of a five-star experience. The establishment itself was beautifully designed, but it was the exceptional service from Jenny, our server, and Johnathan, the manager, that truly made the evening unforgettable. From the moment we walked in, we were warmly welcomed by Jenny, who greeted us with a genuine smile. Throughout the night, she was attentive, knowledgeable, and engaging. She had a remarkable ability to make spot-on recommendations… ensuring that each dish we ordered was perfectly suited to our taste preferences. Her passion for the menu and her dedication to providing top-notch service was evident in every interaction. Johnathan, the manager, also played a significant role in making our dining experience extraordinary. I asked for a very specific drink…. And to my surprise, he went over the top and made me a greater version of it. ( see photo) It is clear that By George is a well-oiled machine, and the credit for that goes to the exceptional team members like Jenny and Johnathan. They both went above and beyond to make us feel valued and special, leaving us eager to return for more memorable dining experiences in the future. If you're looking for a restaurant that not only offers delectable cuisine but also stellar service, By George is the place to go. Make sure to ask for Jenny as your server and introduce yourself to Johnathan - they'll ensure you have a truly unforgettable five-star experience!

I was really excited about this place. The ambience was great and decor was beautiful. My husband got the brioche French toast with a bourbon-peach glaze and candied pecans. I ordered the lemon ricotta pancakes. We also got sides of bacon and breakfast potatoes along with coffee. The French toast was amazing, the bacon and potatoes were also excellent. The pancakes were so incredibly hot when delivered, you could barely taste anything. When you could, they were underwhelming for as delicious as they looked and they were completely devoid of any lemon flavor. We asked for creamer for our coffee and once we put it in, the creamer almost immediately separated and curdled. We asked about it and the first time the waiter ignored it and asked if we wanted more coffee (which we did thinking maybe it was that pot of coffee that was causing the issue), then when our warmed up coffees did the same we mentioned it again. Our waiter said that just happens with their coffee all the time, but he would let the kitchen know. When he came back, he said it was because the kitchen had run out of dairy creamer and substituted oat milk (thank goodness neither of us are allergic). When we got the check, we discovered that each coffee (and this is just the drip coffee they serve, not any of the specialty or espresso drinks) were $6 each…. While it is a beautiful restaurant, our experience was not and we likely will not be back.

We had a delightful time here. From the entrance of the hotel to the attention to detail with place settings they have this place running like a well captained ship. The elegance makes for an environment that suits all occasions. We were at a business dinner and it was excellent. Great wine, (I don't drink but everyone else said it was good and some of our table were French so I trust them) For starters we ordered the meatballs, cornmeal muffins and Buratta, for mains we had the Lamb and Bolognese which I didn't get a chance to photograph but it looked divine. For dessert we split a gluten free chocolate cake and vanilla bean ice cream. I highly recommend this place for your date night or celebratory meal. You will be both mentally and physically full

Let me just start off by saying that the location is absolutely gorgeous!! The architecture and decor are beautiful. Our server Tabby was wonderful!! She made my espresso to perfection, was a delight to talk to and gave us a brief history of the building. With that said I was extremely disappointed in my food order. The pics of the chicken and waffles in the reviews far exceed what I actually got (and I really wish that I took a pic ‍♀️). When my plate came out and I saw 2 frozen chicken patties (yes, like the ones they serve in the school cafeteria) I was set aback. I took a bite nonetheless. The sauce it was smothered in was amazing but looking at the texture of the meat confirmed that it was indeed a patty. I expressed my disappointment to Tabby. The manager came to the table and I explained my expectation for the dish. He offered to make another one, this time with actual fried chicken (which, now I’m confused because if there was actual chicken to be fried, why wasn’t that used in the first place?) I declined and he took care of it on the check. When I visit ATL again, I intend to go back and give them a 2nd try.

I had the pleasure of dining at By George restaurant and bar, and it was truly an excellent experience. The location was spot-on, and the service was exceptional, making it a memorable evening. For starters, we indulged in the steamed mussels and the beef and pork meatballs. They were not just good; they were delicious, setting the bar high for the rest of the meal. When it came to the main course, we were equally delighted. The lemon sole, Atlantic sea scallops, and Cowboy Bone-In Ribeye were all incredibly tasty and prepared to perfection. To complement our meal, we chose a SOLOMON HILLS ESTATE Chardonnay, and it was nothing short of amazing, adding to the overall dining experience. In conclusion, By George restaurant and bar left a lasting impression. The excellent service, delectable food, and a great selection of wine make it a place I would undoubtedly visit again. It's a must-visit for anyone looking for a top-notch dining experience.

Food- oh my! We came here for brunch, and I had the Shrimp and Grits. It was heavenly! I'm not exaggerating. I shared my plate with pretty much everyone, lol... Service- Tabby was great. She was friendly, patient, knowledgeable, and inclusive, and her energy was very positive. She made our birthday boy very happy. The restaurant is incredibly breathtaking, and the ambiance is unmatched even for brunch, and it's located in the Candler building. There's a complimentary valet. The restaurant validates your parking. There's a lot of history there, including the famous vault where the secret formula of Coca cola was kept. There's a tour of the building at the end of your meal. Take the tour because it's mind-blowing! I'll be back to check out the dinner experience Thanks Tabby and the whole team!

The location is historic with beautiful ornate features, like the columns and central staircase. The food was fresh, good flavors, and nicely plated, too! Only 4 stars though because the server said that the kitchen couldn’t do a poached egg (for the “eggs your way”) and he was very off on the timing and interactions. We were probably only halfway through breakfast when we were asked if we wanted to see the dessert menu and if the plates could be cleared. I replied that I was still eating, gesturing to the half full plate. We had to prompt for water and coffee. Once done with the main meal, the server came back and said so, do you want the check now? I guess? There were only about 3 tables in there on a Tuesday morning, so not like it was full. I recognize that this experience was related more to the individual server, but may reflect the overall training. However, what was coming out of the kitchen was good quality and I’d go back to eat there.

By George is inside of the beautiful candler hotel. The atmosphere is amazing unfortunately I wished the food matched the service and decor. Stopped In one evening, it was very crowded maybe about 20% full. I ordered the meatballs and salad as my first and second courses. The meatballs were tasty. The salad was tossed with a little too much vinegar for my liking and they were a little heavy on the peanuts. I added anchovies to the ceasear (always a nice touch) but they didn't pair very well with the vinegar. The homemade corn bread muffins were light and fluffy and complemented the meatballs. However my chicken quarter with brown rice just fell flat. It lacked seasoning and wasn't elevated to the standard to the atmosphere or the establishment. I enjoyed the Brussels. The were rustic and hearty. The desert also lacked Depth and needed more to stand out. For the price point I probably won't return

The restaurant ambience was amazing. Loved the design. The host did amazing job. The server Angelie did good job, but will write some details so that could help for the future. I sat first and the table close to me on the left side came after 5 minutes. They were welcomed first and got coffee and water first. When I was ready to order salad and steak. Medium and it was almost well ✔️ No steak knife and ketchup so I did not eat breakfast potatoes with the steak. And salad and steak came at the same time. 31$ for steak and eggs. Was waiting for coffee and water. Overall it was good. Just for future reference. Definitely will be back. Check was 78$ for breakfast not bad.

Beautiful restaurant. Good service. Poor quality food. Need some vast improvement. See photos below. We were very excited to try By George for breakfast. However, it is not up to par and frankly Atlanta offers many homegrown breakfast places better. The sausage was a preformed and possibly precooked frozen patty. The chicken and sweet potato waffle was recommended by the server but when it came out, I am 99% sure the chicken is the same frozen concoction used by local run of the mill Chinese restaurants for General Tso special. It is not difficult or expensive to have real fresh sausage or hand breaded chicken tenders for $21 chicken and waffles and $8 side sausage. I don’t mind the cost at all, but do have an expectation. Finally, the Peach Brioche French Toast was flavorless at best. Thin bread for a high end establishment.

Heard great things about the service and food, so we had to check it out. And By George did not disappoint!! We visited during dinner time. The restaurant is beautiful and has a classy, relaxing vibe. My table Ordered the salmon (blackened), shrimp and grits, and baked chicken. Waitress asked how I wanted my salmon cooked. (generally recommended medium/medium well). It was perfect!! The corn bread muffins were to die for!! (Drool). Also tried the Peach Bread Pudding and Creme Bruleé, both very yummy! I would definitely come back here to dine.

First of all, I want to acknowledge the phenomenal service we received from the entire team, but especially our servers, Jenny and Witfield. Even though we showed up late for our reservation and had a time crunch to make a show, they took excellent care of us, got our food and drinks out super quickly and accurately, and got us out the door in time. Major kudos to them! The food itself was excellent, the filets we ordered were cooked perfectly, the corn bread muffins were very tasty, and the Creme Brulé and Peach Bread Pudding were delicious. Highly recommend eating here!

I know people are weird about hotel restaurants but this place is great! Lots of open space which is nice, because cramped eating is such a bummer. The food is great. Drinks are a little pricey ($18 for a bloody mary is steep…would consider making that around $12). But the atmosphere is really great and it’s a comfortable and pleasant experience.

Absolutely love this place for celebrating special occasions! A very stunning restaurant interiorly to complicate the delicious food they serve. What really makes By George is how accommodating they are. I had a big party of 12 dine for a celebration and the staff was so patient and efficient to caring for us. I had been in communication with the hostess Jasmine the days prior to our reservation and she was super helpful with making sure all of the accommodations needed were met, which ultimately ensured that the night was incredible overall.

Finally got the chance to try this restaurant, and it was ok. First off, the Candler Hotel is stunning, and the restaurant is also elegantly appointed. We went right as it opened so it wasnt crowded at all. There was a fantastic live saxophonist providing some nice music and our server James was excellent. Our entrees (salmon) was excellent, but the appetizer (meatballs) and dessert (coca cola cake) was not as great. For high end dining in Downtown Atlanta, I think Mortons is the place to beat, but I would totally come back to By George before ever stepping foot in Ruth's Chris again.

Brunch at By George was transformed into an unforgettable experience thanks to our waitress, Tabbie . From the moment we walked in, her warmth and welcoming demeanor set the tone for a delightful meal. She was incredibly attentive to our needs, ensuring that our glasses were always full and our plates just as we wanted them. What truly set her apart, however, was her thoughtfulness in offering to take pictures of our group, capturing the joy of our gathering. Hats off to Tabbie for elevating our brunch to more than just a meal, but a cherished memory!"

We drove down from Chattanooga to take a mini vacation and decided to give By George a try. Our dinner and dessert were incredible and I ended up finding a new favorite wine from the drink list. But the best part of the night was Elida! She is the best server EVER. Not only was she incredibly sweet and a joy to chat with, but all of her recommendations were perfect. Somehow it was like she just knew exactly what I would like! We will definitely be back soon because By George is worth the 2 hour drive.

Table of 4 for lunch and didn’t have high expectations when I went in due to it being a hotel restaurant. But…. Let me tell you they didn’t disappoint. We had turkey burgers which Caine with turkey bacon and a light vinaigrette was on the lettuce. Delicious!!! Catfish was fried perfectly crisp on a brioche bun. Had some of the cornbread as a side and it was moist and delicious. Wasn’t going to have dessert but I kept seeing trays of desserts going to tables so why not. I had the peach bread pudding and it was great. I definitely recommend this establishment and will be back. Thank You Jesus for your great service

Not sure why this place is rated a 4.8. I stopped in to grab breakfast one morning, and for the price it was just okay! Got a 3 egg omelet and it was cooked with the pan too hot; had brought out the sulfur smell in the eggs. The coffee was bland. The breakfast potatoes were the only reason I gave it a 4 instead of a 3. They were hot and had the best surface crunch of any I’ve ever had! Service was good and atmosphere was excellent. Maybe they do lunch and dinner better, but I will not be returning.

Our last dinner here. Salmon was perfect based on Deonna’s guidance. Thank you! Saturday night we enjoyed exemplary service and dinner (filet and coffee crusted Delmonico) served by a waiter with NYC roots. He was welcoming and wonderful which is just what we needed after having our flight to LaGuardia cancelled. I learned that my husband experienced yet another great meal- breakfast, and wait staff person yesterday. From start to finish our unexpected visit here has been incredible. A Trivia question for this neighborhood: Who ignited Martin Luther King Jr.’s love of reading? Answer: His Aunt Ida

I’ve been wanting to go to this place for a while and it did not disappoint! The ambiance from the moment I walked in was superb! The staff was very helpful and attentive. I even found out that the original vault for the Coca Cola recipe was held here and they do tours for it on the weekends (free for visitors to the hotel or the restaurant) The food was pretty good as well. I shared the lamp chops and salmon and neither disappointed. Also, for such a nice place, the price were not bad at all. Definitely will have to come back!

This restaurant is pretty fantastic. I ate here for breakfast and dinner and the food and service are really outstanding. The staff is extremely helpful and their prices are not bad considering the quality of food. I don't recommend the french toast or the bread pudding simply because they're better options on the menu. The salmon and steak are good choices. The coffee is amazing here and make sure and ask for a smoked old fashioned if you're looking for a cocktail.

Very nice place! I went there during the weekend for the lunch and there was a musician who was playing guitar and violin live and that really contributed to the great time I spent there. I had the burger available in the brunch menu and it was very good. Special mention for the mayonnaise! Overall, the service was very pleasant. I work at a university close to By George Restaurant/Candler Hotel and, for years, have often taken colleagues for drinks and sometimes dinner here. It is a gorgeous restaurant with pretty solid service. Well above average food but probably the nicest ambiance in the area. I LOVE the bar though - really beautiful. I had an issue with a rogue employee and management responded very thoughtfully. If you're looking for a restaurant in the GSU area with a truly upscale ambiance, this is the place for you. I haven't stayed at the hotel yet but all indications are that it is top notch.

This restaurant has amazing ambiance. Located in a nice boutique hotel, the interior design and overall ambiance truly added to the dining experience. However, the food and service was a little disappointing. We went there for brunch and ordered omelet, chicken waffle and steak. The server didn’t ask how the steak should be cooked and after we reminded him we wanted it to be medium rare, it came out almost well done. The omelet tasted really good with a lot of cheese. The chicken waffle was a big disappointment, it tasted dry and flavorless.

Super disappointing. Had heard great things about this restaurant and was really looking forward to eating here but it really fell short. Service was terrible. Didn’t know the menu, never asked us if we wanted additional drinks, or check in about our food. Food was completely overpriced for the quality. Salad was overdressed, pork was over cooked, pasta was bland. Broccoli was 5 stars! Was really hoping this would be my new go to spot before events but sadly By George is not.

We went for brunch, and had a good time. Food was fairly priced, but just a touch under-seasoned for my taste. The pastry basket was delicious. It changes every day. This time it was muffins! The chicken on the chicken and waffles was really good, bacon was tasty and crunchy, and the potatoes were so good! The eggs were not the best. We didn't get drinks, but heard they have good drinks. Located inside the stunning Candler Hotel, this restaurant is just as breathtaking with large marble columns and cozy furniture. The bar is a piece of art in and of itself, situated in front of a window with a beautiful metal framework. The food was good, and the service was excellent. The prices match the beauty of the space, so expect to pay a higher price than average (for example, a side of toast is $5). We have only had breakfast here, but it was certainly high quality and I would imagine other meals would be similar.

Great place, nice bar and friendly staff. It’s located inside a classic building that is now a hotel. The food is really good, the filet mignon had a good and savory crust and cooked medium just like I ordered it. The cornbread muffins are a most, it’s 5 pieces on each order. The sautéed spinach was also really well cooked and the shallot gave it a good kick to the flavor.

It's true what they say about this place. I found this place after deciding on the hotel and I'm glad I picked it. We dined in for lunch. So happy I discovered By George Restaurant on my trip to Atlanta. The restaurant is located inside a beautiful hotel (The Chandler Hotel) which features some pretty cool architecture and has been the filming location to several films/shows. I ordered the salmon which was served with broccolini and mashed potatoes. It was really fantastic. The staff at the restaurant were very friendly and inviting (especially JP). I am a new fan of Bourbon, so please try the Southern heart drink, it's MARVELOUS! The manager came to check on us and I truly appreciate that. 100s across the board for this place! ❤️

My husband and I sat at the bar and enjoyed a light snack and drinks. I am 7mos and cannot drink but the manager Johnathan made me a FABULOUS mocktail and even whipped up a special blend old fashioned for my husband which he enjoyed. We ordered the meatball and cornbread muffins to eat, AMAZING, especially paired together! Very nice, chill, welcoming atmosphere with great service.

We had an AMAZING anniversary dinner and James was a fantastic server- informative and full of recommendations for our weekend in the city. He was attentive and anticipated our needs, and accommodated my entree requests with ease. Cheers to James and the entire team at By George! We will definitely be back! (Pictured is the remnants of the fabulous bread pudding that I couldn’t even get a photo of because we ate it too fast!)

Great location that's in a former bank. Drinks are good, but pricey. Our entrees were excellent, as was the salad we shared. The cornbread muffins are really yummy, but it's their only bread choice & they charge for them, a pet peeve of mine. Went on someone's recommendation and we're glad we did.

by George, you did it! I made reservations in advance and anticipated a nice dining experience and that is was! Perry escorted our party inside, Aiden valeted our vehicle. We were shown to our table and served by Eleida. Service was impeccable from everyone! Rodney and Shakay and the hostess who I asked name and forgot it were a delight as we ended our dining experience. The Shrimp and Grits were phenomenal and yes I sprinkle sugar on grits. ☺️ Thank you and see you again soon!

Loved the atmosphere. Manager, service, food and drinks were all great. We loved the cornbread muffins and cheese plate appetizer. My steak was delicious and our sides were great too, the carrots, mashed potatoes, and especially the Parmesan creamed corn. Bartender made a great espresso martini.

By George had good food available day and night. While not the biggest menu, everything I had was well prepared. Great espresso style drinks, served correctly. The staff was very attentive, courteous and experienced. The vibe was very classy and calm. I dined for breakfast and brunch. Though I didn’t come in the evening, the bar looked well stocked. I wouldn’t be surprised if their bartender knew what he was doing.

Never eaten anything besides breakfast here while staying at the Candler. I suppose the credit that Hilton Gold and Diamond members get could be used any time, though, so perhaps we'll try lunch or dinner next time. Either way, breakfast is certainly above average, the restaurant is gorgeous, and the staff is friendly and attentive. Nothing bad to say!

This place was pretty nice aesthetically, the tomato bisque was to die for. The service was so so. The burger didn’t really do it for me. But the views are cool and the architecture very pleasing.

Great experience! Staff was friendly and knowledgeable from the first moment we walked in. We were greeted immediately, and every employee we encountered was helpful and friendly. Our server, James, did an excellent job and really hustled to serve his tables well. The burrata appetizer was fantastic. We had the pork chop and the shrimp and grits, both were excellent! Crème brûlée was fantastic. Overall a very good experience, would recommend.

Not only is the space beautifully decorated, the service was impeccable, and the food was divine. Shakay was a fantastic server, and the host was kind, and accommodating, even though we were late for our reservation. I ordered the shrimp, and grits and a vanilla late by recommendation, and neither disappointed! We will definitely be back in the near future!

Junior was a fantastic server who jumped in to help when things got busy. Rather than have to stand at a busy bar, he allowed us to sit in the lounge and came to us, and made delicious cocktails really quickly given how busy the night was. He truly went above and beyond and we hope to see him again!

I had a fantastic Saturday brunch at 'by George' in the Candler Hotel in Atlanta. Rodney, our server, was exceptional - attentive and personable. The food, especially the lobster sliders and coffee, was great, and the Bloody Mary was outstanding. I highly recommend this place for a delightful brunch experience!

The Ambience is lit!! Great vibe for a Dinner date. The service is amazing, not much wait time. The interiors are great too! Waiter James did an amazing job taking care of us. Amazing collection of wine . But the food is just okay. The corn muffins were good. Lobster was too small for the price. Zatar chicken was okay, not great. Overall, the service and the venue is amazing but the food is just okay.

We came in for brunch and we were not disappointed. The restaurant itself is absolutely gorgeous and the hotel is stunning. Wait time was a total of ten minutes tops and we were blown away by the food. Drinks were exceptional and the food was delicious. Love, love, loved it here and would go back if we were in the area.

This is a great place to check out whether you are staying at the candler hotel, or just in the neighbourhood. Great food. Excellent service. They also have extraordinary old fashioned (order it with the 5 roses bourbon). They close at times between meals, so you have to check their times.

I recently visited By George for a company holiday luncheon. I ordered the shrimp and grits but was very disappointed. The dish had 2 shrimp, which were properly cooked and moderately seasoned. Our party was 13 people, however after waiting 1hr 10 minutes for this, my experience was well below my expectations.

Wonderful experience for brunch! Jasmine greeted and seated us as soon as we came in and our table was ready for us. Elida was wonderful and attentive and kept topping our coffee and water. The food was wonderful. The potatoes and the pastry plate were fantastic. I would definitely come back for both the food and the service. Thank you, all!

Nice food, friendly service. Priced appropriately for a class affair. On Saturday and Sunday morning/brunch it wasn’t crowded. I had Melba toast & croque Madame 2nd meal. As Hilton Honours guest I also got a credit off the cost which was a nice bonus. I was looked after by Rodney and Irish on the 2 days, both great hosts.

The food was really delicious. I wished they stayed open later but overall the food and drinks are higly recommended if you visit the hotel. I would recommend it anytime. The waitresses were really nice. Came back... food still good.. pricey but its delicious.

Ya this place is great. Great food and great service. Rodney was our server and he was excellent, attentive, and super nice! Chicken and Waffles were to die for, and the breakfast tacos special was awesome. Can’t wait to come again.

We went for brunch. Foods and pastries are delicious! I gave them 4 stars because brewed coffee was not hot enough. If people wants to drink fast, it might be okay.
