We took our puppy (8 months) in for what we initially thought was a bad intestinal obstruction. Turns out, it was parvo. He hadn’t had all of his shots yet, so he was quite susceptible to it. We were told a deposit of $3500 was required for inpatient parvo care, but were able to negotiate that down to $2900 as that’s what we were approved for the with credit care option. We would have to pay more should that funding run out, but we liked the odds. Our boy was very ill and we were told that with intense treatment, most dogs have an 80-90% outlook of survival. Unfortunately, our boy was too sick too quick. He fell into that ill-fated 10-20% of dogs whose bodies just cannot handle the virus, even with intense treatment. We received daily updates from the vets who took care of our sweet Pip, and although our pup wasn’t doing well for most of his stay, the vets were incredibly kind toward us and empathetic. They were honest and didn’t get our hopes up too much. The final night, his condition worsened pretty quickly. His temperature was now too low after being too high for about 3 days. I was told that “all the money in the world might not be able to save him,” but was still given an option and information about next steps with my baby. I was told that if I waited to come see him, he would likely not make it, since he was doing so poorly. When I arrived, the staff greeted me so warmly. The front desk nurse (whose name I didn’t catch, but who had blue and purple hair that I found really cool; her name MIGHT be Amie and I honestly think she deserves not only a raise but a really nice vacay) was apologetic about the state of our dog and explained the process of euthanasia very well. She assisted me in settling up final costs for my Pip and overall had a warm personality in what was a very emotionally difficult situation. My poor baby was indeed in bad shape when I got to see him. The nurse who took me back and got me into scrubs was also incredible yesterday. They gave me time with my boy to grieve. I talked to him and sobbed for what was definitely a very long amount of time, but would have never been enough time with him no matter how long it was. When Dr. Gates came in with the medication for Pip, she was incredibly gentle with me and with my baby. I could tell he recognized her and liked her enough to not start barkin (as much as he could) at her. She explained the process slowly, asking me if I had been present for euthanasia before, and ensured he wasn’t in any pain and that the procedure went smoothly. She allowed me time to say my final goodbyes to Pip and never rushed me. I knew I would have been there all day if I’d not left shortly after he was put down. The other puppies (I’m one of THOSE people who calls pets babies even when they’re senile) in the parvo unit were being taken great care of. They looked to have a great outlook and I hope the best for them. I know they’re being taken care of incredibly well. Yes, this visit was costly, but I’m comforted by knowing we gave our little Pipsqueak the best chance possible. This location came highly recommended by family, friends of family, and other (already booked) vets on Saturday morning. Had we not been approved for financing, I don’t know what we would do. This is my only complaint; although pet owners know that the costs associated with a pet can be high, we did not expect them to be nearly this high. Even our family member who recommended them to us was shocked by the final cost. I understand that allowing payment plans is difficult and often not worth the hassle. However, it’s quite embarrassing to ask other people for money many times, and Pip was too sick to even possibly qualify for their financial grant. That being said, it was also one of the only places within a few hours of our house that was open on a Saturday morning when Pip started to diarrhea exclusively blood. We could have allowed him to pass at home, but he would have suffered so much more pain. He didn’t deserve any of this. I’m just thankful they were there and willing to take him in.

The ortho surgical department at this hospital leaves much to be desired. Our dog had a luxating patella surgery performed by Dr. Kristin Bailey in late 2022. At the consultation we spoke with her briefly about our dog’s leg and was told she needed surgery and they had time to operate that morning. We were surprised they had an immediate opening (looking back this is a red flag) but agreed as Dr. Bailey is board certified and our dog was in pain. In our opinion Dr. Bailey didn’t have the best bedside manner and during our short appointments we felt like she talked down to us, and she always seemed to be in a rush to end the appointment. A luxating patella repair is a common surgery and usually has no complications (as long as post op instructions are strictly followed). Dr. Bailey performed the surgery, we followed all post surgical instructions and even took the dog to physical therapy at their clinic twice a week for 8 weeks. I mentioned to the physical therapists during that time that the dog's leg seemed bowed and she wasn’t using it much. They said it seemed fine to them but would mention it to the doctor and I was again told it looked fine. At the 8 week point x-rays were taken and we were told the surgery FAILED. It was shocking to say the least. Dr. Bailey NEVER once said there was a chance the surgery would fail. Dr. Bailey NEVER said there was a chance the luxating patella could not be corrected. Again, she NEVER said we may pay for a surgery that could possibly fail. She did say there was a potential for the leg to reluxate down the road, but again never mentioned the surgery could fail. We had just paid at least $4k for the surgery and all the PT appointments combined. Dr. Bailey offered to perform another surgery to fix the first surgery for a discounted rate of $1,600-$1,800 (cost of PT would be additional). Our regular vet was surprised to hear the surgery failed as well as Texas A&M (as I called to schedule a follow up there). The scheduler at Texas A&M literally said "I don't want you to take this the wrong way but why are you coming here for a luxating patella. That is a simple surgery in terms of what we see." I did not take Dr. Bailey up on her less than generous offer to perform a second surgery. We decided to pay $3.5k at another vet office (AVES in NW Austin) to have another board certified vet correct and improve upon the work of Dr. Bailey. We are 6 weeks in and everything is healing as it should be. I've learned from this experience to 1) do not have a luxating patella repair done at CTVS 2) do not allow Dr. Bailey to perform any type of surgical procedure on your pet 3) always ask if there is a possibility the surgery can fail 4) always ask how many surgeries the surgeon has performed and what their success rate is with the surgery your pet needs 5) meet with multiple animal hospitals/multiple surgeons 6) have x-rays taken around 4 weeks regardless of the vet’s recommendation and 7) always go with your gut. UPDATE 3/9/23: I spoke to Dr. Adamovich, who has been with CTVSEH since 2013, and we had a great discussion regarding my experience. She was receptive and I felt she truly understood my issues. It sounded like she will perhaps make some good changes going forward. I stand behind my opinion of Dr. Bailey’s bedside manner, however, she is young and is probably still learning to deal with patients. And to be fair, Dr. Adamovich saw no problems with Dr. Bailey’s work. I’m sure she is a fine surgeon and I would allow her to operate on my pet again.

Unfortunately I did not have a good experience here. My shepherd showed signs of GDV (a very common diagnosis with symptoms of burping, dry heaving, and gas). I had no idea of this disease until research after my beautiful dog passed away. I took him to the emergency clinic the first time around 2 am and Sally Nowland immediately put a catheter in his leg without any diagnosis or consult “just in case”. She then proceeded to do a blood panel without my permission because she felt a slightly enlarged liver. This had absolutely no relation to his extremely clear symptoms of GDV that any decent vet would immediately test for with his breed and symptoms. Then she told me she wanted to keep him to do more tests but said that she wouldn’t really know for sure until they do an ultrasound which is only available during the day shift. Which means she wanted to hospitalize him and charge me without any confidence of diagnosis. When I asked her questions on her method her attitude became passive aggressive as she felt personally attacked for her knowledge even thought it is fairly common for a pet owner to ask tons of questions to make an Informed decision for their loved one. I asked to leave w my dog because I didn’t trust her. My dog now suffered through the night in intense pain, his last night with me. Finally when I couldn’t see any other way, I drove him back to the hospital again in the morning but by this time he went into shock due to the intense pain from a lack of immediate diagnosis, again, for a very very common and easily diagnosable disease for his breed as I found out after research. The second time around the doctor immediately knew it was bloat or GDV and knew what to do - surgery or euthanasia. Obviously by this time his condition was much more serious and I had to make the touch call and subsequently live with guilt forever. The worst part is When I took him back, the ER vet tech blamed me by saying harsh things like I should’ve never took him back and implied that it was my fault while I’m there to seek help. I am not sure what the right way of treating suffering animals and their partners is, but I would hope that compassion and proper advice wouldn’t hurt the doctors and techs in providing good care. I believe the day vet was more knowledgeable than the night one but regardless they all represent the institution equally.

They definitely care about my dog. My pup has had two surgeries here. First, entropian eye surgery performed by Dr. Barnes and second, surgery for medial luxating patella (knee cap problem) performed by Dr. Adamovich. They took very good care of my dog and have been very good about aftercare. I felt their diagnosis was thoughtful in both cases and in both cases the team was able to wrangle my (less than uncooperative) pup for several corresponding pre and post-operative exams. They have to muzzle my dog when they do his exams. My dog has never bitten anyone and, as long as they keep muzzling him for exams, that will probably remain true. ;) It's a little counterintuitive, but we have done these exams several times now and he handles them better when they take him in the back. They aren't doing anything nefarious back there. They're handling the dogs professionally and, in my case, it's less stressful for my dog when I'm not sitting there freaking out next to him. I go to the South Austin location. Parking is good. People are knowledgeable and kind. Front desk staff are attentive. When I leave a message for the nurse I usually get a call-back within a few hours and always the the same day, unless I call after hours. We're going to start doing rehab for the post-surgery leg as "pre-hab" before we do surgery to address his luxating patella on the other leg. They are great about scheduling at CTVSH. We had a follow-up exam today. We discussed surgical options and a therapy option. For my case, I opted to defer surgery for right now. They were very accommodating and understanding that either option may be difficult financially. We consulted with the therapist, Thai, the same day, and have the dog scheduled to start therapy with Thai tomorrow. I had a similarly responsive experience with his knee surgery. They asked me to fast my dog before the consultation. During the consultation we decided he needed surgery and they admitted him that day. No waiting, so less pain for the dog. I've found that they are conscientious of costs and sensitive to the fact that not everybody can fork up the dough for surgery. They have been upfront about the success rate of the surgeries they propose and the costs. In my case, the surgery actually was necessary so I felt they were just giving their honest professional opinion.

I am giving 2 stars instead of 1 star because this place seems to provide great medical care. However, I'm posting about a very painful mistake this place made in the hopes that 1) nobody will ever have to go through this ever again, and 2) they verify how they send information to Fond Memories - the company that sends the in memoriam items you receive after your pet passes. My cat passed away at this hospital on May 20th, his name was Hawkeye. We were told we would receive a paw print and box of his ashes. About a week later EVERY item had his name misspelled as Hawk Eye (see attachment) and I was told I could return the items and they will be fixed - his name is Hawkeye. On June 5th I called for an update and was told "this happens" in regards to name misspellings being common and fixing that takes time. I was given the number to Fond Memories; I called them and no such order to fix Hawkeye's items had been placed. They also informed me that in order to fix the paw print they would have to take a mold of the mold and correct the name, so I decided to keep the paw print because at least it was his. A lead tech tried to make this right for me but unfortunately the damage is done and Hawkeye has already been cremated so a new paw print is impossible. Every time I tried to call and check up on the order every person who answered the phone offered nothing other than "it takes time" "we've had to return items before because of misspellings", not a single person looked into seeing if an order had actually been placed. This is truly the worst pain I've even been through and any healing I had accomplished from loosing my best friend, Hawkeye, instantly vanished in this mistake that shouldn't have ever been made. It takes a minute to verify a pet's name. I sincerely hope someone in this company reads this and changes their policy with names on memorial keepsakes immediately. I have another cat at home, he will not be a patient of this vet office no matter how medically competent the vets are, I'm just too hurt by their mistake and callous response to said mistake.

12/17/23 Update -- Finally "leadership" communicates, they tell me there's "noway it could be our fault, no way it could have been a loose screw" - "Go Away!" No, I'm not going away - you owe me $1400. 12/12/23 - How about reimbursing me for the $1400 that I had to pay another surgeon to fix the problem created by a surgeon that worked for your company? How about doing the right thing and accepting some responsibility and not hide behind blanket responses to negative reviews? This isn't even about the inflated price you gave me, this is about the shoddy work performed at your practice. "LOOSE SCREW"....I'd give ZERO stars if I could: My dog had two TPLO surgeries here. One knee developed a recurrent infection which was treated with antibiotics until it became apparent that an additional surgery would be needed to remove the plates and eliminate the infection. CTVSEH then quoted me nearly $4300 for the new surgery and refused additional antibiotics - forcing my hand on the surgery. I asked them why so much, they eventually came down to $3800. It was then that I was referred to another surgeon at VSS. He agreed to do the surgery for $1400. He did that surgery on 12/6 and discovered a LOOSE SCREW! He went on to say the loose screw was the problem the entire time. I sent the medical records, statements and invoice to CTVSEH for reimbursement for at least the $1400, explaining the situation, it was their fault... and they ignored my request. Unbelievable. This is no way to run a business and I would encourage you to go elsewhere. Additional notes, the original surgeon at CTVSEH moved to another state after the surgeries, I've never gotten the impression that CTVSEH wanted to honor his poor work. Maybe that's why they're hiding and refusing to acknowledge their fault and make this situation right. Again, poor business leadership....dishonest, go elsewhere for your surgical needs.

I give this clinic 3 stars based off of the fact that I truly feel they care about money first and your pet second. We were in an emergency situation with my rabbit, and this is the only emergency vet I know that will take rabbits until our usual vet opens during normal hours. I will say, when I brought him in the team was quick to act. What I didn’t like was that I was told I would immediately need to pay $1000 BEFORE they would start working on him and BEFORE they even had any idea what was actually going on with him. Fortunately, I was able to take care of the immediate charges, but imagine if there was someone who wouldn’t be able to afford $1000 upfront for their pet when the vets still had no idea what was going on with them! It wasn’t until LATER that it was explained to me that the $1000 is a “deposit” for care that may or may not be needed. If my rabbit didn’t require the full care amount of the deposit fee then I would be reimbursed whatever amount wasn’t used. Also, just FYI if you want them to try to resuscitate your animal in case needed just know the STARTING fee for that will be $400!! $400 for something that in my mind should be standard care at an emergency vet!! On one hand I understand because this would allow them to work on him without constantly having to consult with me about pricing in possible ongoing emergency situations, but on the other hand I don’t like that I was essentially forced to make a hard and expensive choice upfront before they hardly even knew what was going on. It also just feels a bit sketchy because to no surprise when it was all said and done of course they used the full amount of my deposit…. Plus some. I do hope the team did everything they could, but in the end my rabbit passed in their care. If my cat or dog had an emergency I don’t think I would bring them to this vet clinic.

Where do I begin?!! Took my 14 yr old dog in for her bloating on a Friday night. Hardly anything is open and it was the closest location so my first mistake was not reading the reviews. They could physically see the serious condition of my baby girl however no sense of urgency to get her examined. Then they charge $400 down to start fluids on her and an x-ray 45 mins later. Doctor finally sees us and tell us they need to keep her there for the weekend and it's gonna cost $3000 which she convinced me with a $900 ultrasound that would provide me with answers! I pay the amount because they are giving me hope my baby is going to make it. Reception miscalculated ( not my fault) ends up charging me less so the following day hospital calls me, I'm thinking with results, but noooo they want MORE money and are using words like Euthanasia.Their doctor blatantly told me on the phone after i called back when I couldn't find anything open closer " oh that's right you couldn't find anything else huh" This place is unethical, no sympathy for their patients nor customers, VERY UNPROFESSIONAL!!! I drove down there after the phone call requesting more money because I needed to know how my pup was and the DOCTOR couldn't answer a simple question if my dog had pooped. She couldn't tell me why something like this could happen. She couldn't tell me what the treatment plan would be. All she could say is Euthanasia could be an option after the hospital just took $3500!!! Needless to say as soon as Monday morning came around i got my baby girl out of there and to her regular Vet where for $300 my baby is slowly but surely progressing. Come to find out, the were giving her sedatives that caused her to not be mobile, not poop, not drink, barely sleep. If i could say one thing about this place, GO ANYWHERE ELSE!!!

Absolutely the worst veterinarian experience we have ever had! Took our dog from us, wouldn’t let us stay with her, never provided any updates. We are in our 70s and the chairs were very uncomfortable so I sent my husband back to the car with our other fur baby. I kept going up to the front desk about every 30 minutes and they never had any information for us. They made us pay over $4,000 in advance. We got there at 11 pm Sunday night and it wasn’t until around 1:40 am that I was finally called into a room. Waited another 10 minutes before a vet came in to give me all the worse possible scenarios in a not very warm manner. Still wouldn’t let me go see my dog - said they could bring her to me. I wasn’t about to make my poor dog, who was in extreme pain, vomiting, on an IV , be hauled out to come see me! It was an absolute nightmare. They said they would have to keep her for at least a couple days. So we went home totally distraught. Got a call around 8:30 Monday morning with the news that something had punctured her stomach and she’d developed a septic abdomen and only solution would be a very risky surgery that would cost 10-12 thousand dollars. Our girl was over 13 years old with kidney problems. There was no way we would subject her to this. I had told them from the beginning that we thought it was something she ate outside and that there had been twigs in her vomit! At least this particular vet I spoke to seemed to care. They should have done an ultrasound hours earlier - we had already paid for it and therefore authorized it! Sadly, we really had no choice but to euthanize our beloved Callie. We are devastated and unfortunately our grief is now combined with anger

Read other reviews I was actually looking for a 24 hour place for my dog and was reminded of the terrible experience I had at this place a couple of years ago… I would HIGHLY recommend going literally anywhere else. They told me my dog needed a 5000$ surgery or “they highly suggest euthanizing her”. They didn’t offer me a payment plan or anything like that and I did not qualify for the credit program. I was literally hysterically crying because I didn’t want to put my dog to sleep- the vet didn’t even care at all (not that it’s her problem , but have some compassion atleast) I talked to a couple of other people that suggested I find another place and I did. I took her to a different place the next day ((which the vet here told me she ”probably wouldn’t make it through the night”)). Paid $2000 so $3000 less…. they called me an hour later& said after they did x-rays (which weren’t even done before the vet at this place suggested surgery or death for my dog) that she was fine it was a hematoma not a hernia and she did not require surgery. She would be fine just let her rest. My dog was fine after about a week… I can’t even imagine how many pets have lost their lives over not being able to afford OUTRAGEOUS cost and little to no care/empathy from a vet. If you love your pet don’t bring them to this place all they care about is money. 10 out of 10 DONT RECOMMEND going here And don’t bother responding with your lame “the hospital manager will respond blah blah” generic, dumb, cold response you’re giving everyone else. Sorry to the people who have unfortunately lost their animals due to this hospital’s staff and their negligence.

I am very disappointed in the vet that I saw on Sunday evening. She was very curt, rude and it was all about the money. My dog Dallas had three puppies Saturday and I realized Saturday evening that the vet, I didn't get her name because I was so upset. She told me that I could not pay out the 3000 in payments, I don't have good credit so I could not pass the credit application. She was very judgmental on her part because I could not pay pet insurance, I cannot afford insurance for me. I am a great grandparent on a fixed income and I adopted my fur baby Dallas for support and company.. I even offered to give them the title of my car until I could pay in full. She kept saying that I needed to euthanize her and I wanted to give her a chance so I surrendered her to the Austin Animal Shelter so they could do the surgery. It killed me but I wanted what was best for her. The vet stated "you cannot have her back or adopt her in such a judgmental and hurtful way that I really got more upset. I have three of her puppies and she wouldn't even give me information on how to take care of the puppies. The front desk clerk Ashlin was very supportive and printed out the material on how to care for the puppies. She is a very positive person and comforted me and I could tell she was genuine. She is a definite asset of positive energy in an office where the vet could care less. I hope if this vet has animals of her own that she is more kind to them than she was to me. Shame on her,, she might have college sense but she doesn't have common sense, courtesy or compassion of a human being. I will never darken this vets doors again!

PLEASE DO NOT BRING YOUR PET HERE! PLEASE READ THE OTHER REVIEWS WHERE PET OWNERS HAVE LOST THEIR ANIMALS FOR BRINGING THEM HERE! I was traveling for work from CA and my 3 month old puppy swallowed a plastic cap, I took here to this HORRIBLE place within 15 mintutes from the hotel, the Dr who was VERY CONCERNED ABOUT ME PAYING THEM $2300 UPFRONT! Put her in a “oxygen box” for 5 hours!!!!! Without giving her anything to get the cap out, the cap had been swallowed shortly 15 minutes before I took her there, after I asked what was the oxygen box for? she said my puppy had pulmonary edema and she got gotten that diagnosis from 1 X-ray, I asked them to email the X-ray to my vet in CA and my vet was very confused as to how she could have diagnosed that when it wasn’t showing on the XRay!!!!! This ppl are HORRIBLE all they want is your money they do not care about your animal. After consulting with my vet he recommended I got her out of there and magically they dismiss the payments and charged me $200 that I had payed for the deposit which by the way they asked initially $500. I took her to Emergency Animal Hospital of Crystal Falls shaking as they told me my puppy was going to die if I took her out “oxygen” my puppy made it fine to the hospital where they induce her to vomit the plastic cap and my pup is alive and better. PLEASE DONT TAKE YOUR ANIMAL TO THIS PLACE. THEY ALSO SAID THEY COULD T TAKE X RAYS BECAUSE SHE WASNT LAYIND DOWN MY PUPPY APPEARS PERFECTLY LAYING IN A OXYGEN BOX IN THE PHOTO. ALL THEY WANTED WAS FIR ME TO PAY THEM $2300 in order to make her puke the cap out. This ppl are rats!!!!

Two weeks ago our sweet 10 year old girl Novella who is usually full of energy and never turns down a piece of hot dog, started slowing down and eventually refused food after a few days. We thought it was old age but when she stopped eating we knew something was wrong. She went to her regular vet who performed a bunch of tests and recommended that she be sent to CTVS right away due to her condition. Once we were able to get her in, everyone there was so very kind and explained everything. She needed a sonogram and to stay overnight. They called first thing in the morning, but we got the worst news imaginable for a pet owner. Cancer. Everything is a blur and I wish I could remember names of the vets and the techs and front desk people we spoke to, but the person explaining everything to us was so thorough and gave us many options, Unfortunately there really was only one thing we could do to ease her suffering. I've never had to do this with a pet before so I had many different expectations, but they made the room very comfortable and the vet or vet tech who brought her in was so nice and calm. He was so thorough and said all the right things to make the most difficult situation as comforting as possible. My sweet girl crossed over the rainbow bridge on 05/15/21. We chose all the memorialization options and received her ashes back today. The wooden box is so much nicer than I could have imagined as well as the mold of her paw print. We are still grieving but thankful that she had such great care during her last days.

Here's the story. FIND SOMEWHERE ELSE TO GO, DONT TAKE YOUR PET HERE. Our family pet seemed to be at her end stages. I called around and they said to come in as they had a vet available. Our dog had stopped walking earlier that day so I was concerned for her well-being. When we arrived at the clinic, I again mentioned that I thought we might be looking at end stages of our pets life. She was a 13.5 yr old black lab and due to age and circumstances it didn't seem like it was an injury. Instead of taking a look at her when we arrived, they took her to the back and kept her there for 5hrs. My mother, nephew and myself waited for 5hrs in the waiting room, watching everyone else that arrived after us come and go and have their animals treated. The behavior was COMPLETELY INHUMANE. I went to the desk a handful of times asking when we would talk to the Vet. I mentioned that I didn't want my dog to go through the stress of a strange place without anyone she knew for hours on end. Our loving pet sat alone, immobile, without family for a TOTAL OF 6 HOURS. The Vet finally calls us into a room to tell us it is probably a mass/cancer, and at her age it would be a loss. Six hours our pet sat alone FOR NOTHING. I really wish I would have waited until the morning to take her to a Vet that wouldn't have made her feel that way. Don't go here, it's not worth it. Oh and a bill of $260 for all of us to sit from 6:15pm-12:30am and the resolution be what I suspected, which was putting our pet to sleep, completely and totally inexcusable.

I understand with only two doctors there, the waiting time can get pretty long pretty quickly. However what was disappointing was that the front desk staff outnumbered the doctors probably 3:1. With so many of these front desk people literally in the front, why do I need to come up every single time and ask how much longer does my pet need to be seen? You told me 30 min - 1 hour, two hours ago. Why when I come up now it’s now extended to maybe we’ll see your pet in 2 hours. I am the only person waiting here. All 6 of you see me waiting here for the past 4+ hours for two days in a row without my pet being treated. An updated time would’ve been nice so I wouldn’t waste my time, especially as the only person sitting there. I would understand if there were 10+ other people with pets in the ER that you cannot update us all on wait times. I came in way before the rush and left well after the rush and never got seen. I wouldn’t have stayed the 4+ hours if your front desk team was more communicative up front. They were also misleading in stating where my pet was in the process. She was considered “P2”, and said she was first in line for P2. Instead of saying that, you could’ve said that we don’t have any P2 or P3 patients, only your pet. we currently only have P1 pets, therefore your pet will be seen dead last. That sounds like a way more accurate statement. The doctors were nice when they came out and were really informative. I think up front training needs to be handled differently.

Unfortunately, we had to take our senior dog in late Friday night after he got in a nasty fight with our other dog. I've seen people get very judgmental about inter-dog aggression within the household, but we were met with nothing but compassion about the situation. The entire team here was absolutely wonderful and made a deeply traumatizing experience far, FAR easier. They were quick to call with updates, very thorough with the records they kept and shared, and even let us go in the back where the kennels are to see our boy. Their pricing was very transparent, and, in my opinion considering the extent of care that Roscoe ended up needing, very reasonable. Every phone update I received was from the same veterinarian who seemed to be working closely with Roscoe, and he was excellent about describing the situation thoroughly, but in terms that I could understand as a layperson. Dr. Rey was warm and personable, and was very patient with all of my questions. He even told me that he had been hand feeding Roscoe bits of chicken once his appetite came back. There was never a doubt in my mind that my dog was receiving world class veterinary care. If you need professional, emergency veterinary care from a team of people who will love your animals like their own, look no further. Hopefully we never need to come back, but if we do, I will feel confident leaving my baby in the care of this fine establishment.

NOT HAPPY with this place. I took my dog in as an emergency (I am grateful they were able to look at him right away.) The BAD part is they tried to keep my baby for a few days “his body temperature was low & they wanted to keep an eye on him” for $2000. The money wasn’t the worst part. After pushing back that I wanted to take him home, (primarily because he had advanced kidney disease-and they knew that) because I knew he wasn’t curable, THEN AND ONLY THEN did she (the Dr) admit that the drop in body temperature meant his body was shutting down!! If his body was shutting down, why did they insist on keeping him?? My baby passed away that same afternoon!! Can you imagine if I wouldn’t have pushed back and left him there? My baby would have passed away alone. It was already traumatic enough for me. I cannot even fathom if I would have gotten a call that he passed and I wasn’t there. It has been a couple of weeks since this took place. I waited to do this review because I didn’t want to act out emotionally. I am a business owner also and looked at it from that point of view. However, After more thought I am BEYOND LIVID that this business put their own needs over that of a client. #1 rule of any ethical business owner, you always put your client needs first. We were referred here to Dr. Adamovich after it was discovered our cat, Rocket, had a mass in his chest. We were very hopeful when it seemed surgery was a option w/ a strong likelihood of success. It was a difficult decision to make because of fear that we could lose Rocket but the care provided by Dr. Adamovich & the staff was very good. We were unfortunate in that once Dr. Adamovich got access to the mass through surgery that it had entangled around Rocket’s esophagus & arteries near his heart, thus limiting her ability to remove very much of it. Rocket was such a happy cat, even after just having had major surgery on his chest. He was such a charmer that the staff caring for him fought over who got to care for him! He was adored while he was here for his surgery & post-op care. We felt very assured that while we could not be with him he was in good hands & they let us visit him as well as got him home to finish his recovery quickly. We were hoping for a better result, but our lack of one was due to how advanced & complicated the mass had become & not for lack of care, talent or effort. We had to be referred to an oncologist and Rocket fought on for 9 more months before we had to make the decision to let him go. We are grateful to Dr. Adamovich & all the staff that made Rocket feel loved & cared for like the handsome & charming fellow he was while in their care.

My mother-in-law called to schedule an appointment two weeks ago for her dog who lost the use of his back legs. The office told her a referral was required, so her regular vet sent over a referral. After receiving the referral, CTVS called her back and schedule the appointment for two weeks out. Today, the day before her dog’s appointment, CTVS called to see how her dog was doing and if there was any change. She told them there was not, and they said they were going to review some things and call her back. They called her back and told it would be considered an emergency appointment, she would have to go to Round Rock first to get an MRI, and that she would then have to pay between $6,000 - $7,000 tomorrow before even having her dog seen. I don’t know what kind of terrible sham these people are pulling, but this is appalling and unacceptable. They certainly didn’t seem to think it was an emergency two weeks ago, even though he was paralyzed, and they obviously do not have any concern for the dog’s well-being. Now we have lost two weeks time, and it is possible that due to their delay and lack of care and professionalism the dog’s rear leg paralysis may not be reversible. This is heartbreaking and infuriating. I would never, ever suggest this place to anyone, and I am going to do research into if there is anywhere 8 can file a formal complaint.

I normally don’t write reviews, but I have literally never in my life been so pleased by a business! My cat, Tolstoy, was sick, not eating and throwing up. I had taken him to my regular vet, where they did bloodwork and and an x-ray. They couldn’t find anything wrong with him and basically did nothing to help. They weren’t even concerned that he hadn’t eaten for nearly a week (I’m looking for a new regular vet). I was extremely upset at this point because I KNEW there was something wrong with him. He just wasn’t acting like a normal cat... no eating, drinking, grooming, playing, or even going to the bathroom. He hid in his bed all day. Thank goodness I took him here! They told me it was very concerning that he had not eaten in a week and they put him on liquids for dehydration. They took amazing care of my little guy! They called me and communicated very well with how he was doing and what the options were. They gave him a steroid injection, antibiotics, and an appetite stimulant but said he might be too nervous there to eat, so I brought him home (he is extremely shy, but very sweet). As SOON as we got home he ate for the first time in a week!! He has continued to eat and gain his strength back. He is doing great! I am extremely thankful for the wonderful care that he received. Thank you so much for helping my bff get back to himself again.

A few days ago, My dog Stella was very sick with digestive trouble that began suddenly overnight. We monitored her symptoms throughout the morning, but eventually settled on taking her into a clinic (not CTVS) nearby. They couldn't help us immediately but offered the Central Texas Veterinary Specialist as their Emergency option/referral. We arrived early in the morning. Around 10am to an open, inviting office that was well-staffed even in the shortages they face. Stella was seen immediately, vitals and blood work taken. Our Doctor (did not get her name) was forthwith in Stella's condition and told us about their plan to help. It was soothing in a time of great anxiety and confusion. We've lost pets before in similar circumstances - as no one wants to imagine. But the doctors cared for Stella, and us, too. Within 24 hours, Stella's condition improved and blood-levels stabilized. I can't say exactly what went wrong with her system. Probably food allergies, although i'm not a Veterinarian. Stella was released back into our care and is safely recovering at home. By this review I would like to express my deep appreciation to the specialists at Central Texas Veterinary Hospital, and offer my experience as testament for those living in South Austin. I took my cat in at the recommendation of my primary vet, and there was a very lengthy wait, but only because a lot of much higher tier emergencies came in while we were there demanding more immediate attention. After waiting for a long time and finally being seen by the doctor, it was decided that the best course of action would be to see my primary vet the following day. This is where the 5 stars come in. I fully expected to pay the emergency exam fee because my cat WAS technically given an exam as an emergency, and I was pretty miffed about wasting a Sunday waiting while losing a sizable chunk of money on top of that. But they waived the exam fees and had us go on our way without paying anything at all since we had waited so long and didn't receive any additional care beyond the exam. I could have easily been charged and was prepared to pay the fee, and although the experience was not ideal, this small courtesy made a significant difference for me in being able to afford subsequent care and in reducing the friction of the experience as a whole. I greatly appreciate the generosity and realize it was entirely at the expense of the facility to see my cat and take time to help me plan a next best course of action, regardless of wait time. So, thank you!

This review is disgracefully overdue! I wanted to thank the staff and Dr. Pugliese and her team for saving my cat’s life late evening on a Friday. After a full day of running from the vet to the ultra sound where they did find intestinal blockage, it was not time to find a surgeon. The only place that would take us was the Central Texas Veterinary Specialty & Emergency Hospital. Our cat is just over a year old and the active cat was just laying around for days and her food was not being eaten. I assumed perhaps a bug, two days later, it was Vet time and my worst fear was that I’d waited too long. When picking her up after the surgery the vet tech showed what was trapped in her intestine I could not see how that would have ever had passed since it was still solid and not broken down at all. Doctor Pugliese contacted me after the surgery and after taking her home the next day I had to call a couple of times with questions; the staff could not have been kinder and more professional. Cinnamon is back to playing, jumping and eating, while we have made sure to remove anything she or her sibling might ingest to ensure we don’t have a repeat. I cannot recommend Central Texas Veterinary Specialty & Emergency Hospital more!!!

Horrible experience. Our family’s dog has been battling cancer and became extremely weak after a radiation treatment. We had to take him in on a Saturday afternoon after he took a horrible turn. We were originally told that there was a 6hour wait to see him. Once he become non responsive they said they could take him in. Once we were called back into the room we were told that he was just having a bad reaction to the radiation and would go home that night. 40 minutes later the nurse returned to tell us that he was non responsive and we had to make a decision. The worst part of the entire experience, which is hard to say since the entire experience was absolutely horrible, was that when we were waiting in the room to put down our family dog someone from the front desk came in asking for payment! Our dog was seeing the veterinary oncologist so they had our information on file. There was absolutely no reason to come in minutes before we had to put him down and say goodbye. This is a memory and experience that we will never forget and I hope that no one has to experience something like this. Would absolutely not recommend going here on a weekend unless great changes are made to their staff processes.

I had to take my senior dog in on Wednesday after his primary vet was concerned with his blood results and a possible mass in his abdomen. We got some very bad news but the staff made it is easy as they possibly could. The front desk got me checked in quickly and a technician came out see him with 10 minutes. Throughout the day, the technician was so kind. She gave me time and privacy to make decision on next steps and was very understanding. Dr. Satchel is by far my favorite vet that my dog has ever seen. He is knowledgeable but explains things in a way that is easy to understand. He was very kind and sympathetic and made the news easier to swallow. He talked me though all of my options and gave me time to think. I wish all vets were like him. I was there all day but they were actually pretty quick considering all of the emergencies that came in while I was there. The only process that took a while they let me know it could take an hour or two and gave me the option to leave and come back if I wanted. I never felt like they were pushing me into anything. It was overall a terrible day because of the news we got, but they made it as easy as possible and I would recommend them to anyone.

I have read other reviews. My review is based on having an appointment in advance, not an emergency visit. I was told by my vet. most likely, my dogs saliva gland had ruptured and was filling up a pocket in his neck. Surgery was needed at some point. I made an appointment to CTVSEH for 9:15 on a Friday. I was put in a room waiting for the surgeon at 9:16, ( I checked ). She explained the rupture of the saliva gland was unlikely due to lack of saliva in the specimen but a lot of white blood cells. Meaning an infection. She gave me a few options along with pricing, from antibiotics and time, having me see my own vet. in 10 days to having surgery to remove the problem area and inspect the injury further during surgery. I put a "worse case scenario" deposit down. Great communication before and after the surgery. I picked up my dog Saturday morning and was advised I had a sizable amount of money put back on my Credit Card due to it not being the worse case. Praise God : ) I read beforehand and understand the lower reviews that were given in emergency situations. I have had those over the years, but 5 stars for my experience with CTVSEH on this occasion. I recently took my dog of 12 years in because of breathing issues among a few other issues. $1500 later / 3 hours later I was told I would need to make the decision on whether or not to euthanize him that evening. I was told I could come in and see how he was doing and make a decision, but that it was their recommendation to do so. It was indicated to me by Dr. Floyd that we had ruled out all other options and it was highly likely that he had a brain tumor. There was nothing more we could do for him. I was completely beside myself. After collecting myself a bit I called back to see if I could visit him before going in to make the decision, explaining that I just wanted to spend some time with him. The staff was cold and unprofessional and denied my request. Then I was told that I couldn't come and see him because the doctor was waiting to see if he showed improvement over the next few hours. She did not recall our phone conversation where she recommended putting my dog to rest. I HIGHLY DISCOURAGE ANYONE FROM TAKING THEIR PETS HERE. They are certainly cold, borderline rude and extremely unprofessional. If I could only do things over, I most certainly would.

Go elsewhere if you care about saying goodbye to your beloved pet in a goodhearted environment. Front desk & techs were fine, however Dr. Gates was unbelievably rude and haughty, she is the exact opposite of the type of person who I would have wanted handling my sweet and gentle boy in his last moments. It absolutely torments me that she left the room after acting so awful towards me and was then handling my boy in his very last moments. She should be ashamed of herself. Adding that the way they went about demanding payment literally as I'm discussing end of life with (I'm guessing the other vet? Or a tech?) was disgusting and I know my boy was in the back in pain, crying, as they withheld pain management. Just as the staff said you know we do have to make a decision very quick (he was in SO much pain) another tech walked in & was saying for them to do more they need payment. I'm disgusted. From what I understood at the time he had already been given the catheter and pain management but I don't think that happened I think they withheld that until card was charged. I'm horrified & enraged that was how it was handled.

I had to rush my 6 year old yorkie/chihuhua mix to the vet yesterday after she was violently vomiting, shaking, and couldn’t walk or stand. The vet assistants were so incredibly sweet and calming. They took really great care of my dog. I explained that I was really tight on money and couldn’t afford to spend much on my dog, but I would be willing to if I absolutely had to. They made sure to give me options of different treatments with varying prices. She needed a lot of attention and they recommended keeping her over night, which was the highest price. I was nervous to take her home, so I left her there. When I came back the next day after being charged the highest amount, they voluntarily refunded me $210 for services that they did not end up having to do. I’ve never once had a vet or doctor refund me like that. I was so appreciative that they were truthful about what they provided and were willing to provide me a refund without me even asking. My dog didn’t seem anxious when I picked her up and is feeling 100% better. Thank you to the team here for helping my baby and being sensitive to my financial limitations.

I recently had to take my elderly Pittie/Cane Corso to the South Austin clinic and EVERYONE there that interacted with us and all the staff that cared for Izzabelle were amazing. They were kind, caring, gentle, and extremely compassionate, not just with Izzy, but with her other Mom and myself. We had just lost her "fur brother" four days earlier to cancer. Now we were having to let our sweet girl go. I am so very Thankful for all of the loving, dedicated people working there, front the staff at the front desk to ALL the staff in the back. Thank you for helping us get through one of the darkest and most painful experiences we have faced. The only reason I did not give them all five stars was I was told receipt would be emailed to me, and I still haven't gotten one. I was also informed by several people that I would be getting a refund back from the deposit I had paid and I haven't received that either. After a night out, I came home to my pup laying on my bed in vomit and making jerking movements. I was obviously very alarmed. I noticed he went through my trash while I was out and after a quick google I thought it was a toxic emergency because of the raw meat packaging in there. I brought him in the this ER and the doctor immediately came out, asked a few questions and afterwards suggested that it could possibly be thc ingestion. I then realized that I had left an edible thc brownie out and that’s exactly what it was. I was stressing. Over my dog AND over finances. This was all done in the waiting room. No payment, just good solid judgement. She eased my mind and let me know that his reactions were perfectly normal and he would be okay in a few hours. As soon as we left, Griz was in high spirts, no pun intended haha. And so was I. I greatly appreciate the whole team up there for being friendly and for the doctor being so helpful, knowledgeable and comforting. Highly recommend and will definitely return in the case of any future emergencies!

We had an absolute nightmare of a weekend, where we ended up at the hospital on two different days for two different dogs over the long weekend. Both times on the way to the vet, we thought we were in the process of losing the respective dog. The emergency doctors were concise and compassionate, and on our second visit of the weekend when I mentioned that we wanted to do everything we could, but we had to be cost conscious, they were very upfront about costs and different options and pros/cons. Additionally the triage personnel for both incidents (Gio on Saturday at ~1AM and Baron on Sunday at ~1PM) were so kind and patient as I stuttered through the information I had, and helped me move quickly and made me feel at ease. Sunday especially seemed like a hard day for many pet owners in the lobby, and the staff was exceptional. I really hope there is some way to share this feedback with the people that helped our two Frenchies, Gio and Baron, this weekend -- they made such an awful weekend just a bit better with their kindness.

Unfortunately, I have had to bring my dog, Dixie, to CTVS on a couple of occasions. The first time was due to her being run over on a very busy highway a week to the day after my father passed away. Dr. Kerpsack performed surgery placing rods and pins in both hind legs and also repaired her ruptured bladder. She bounced back wonderfully from that surgery and I could not have been happier. Fast forward to March 2019 and my same beloved pup woke up very, very sick. At the time their North Austin emergency clinic was open. They triaged her and sent me South immediately. The prognosis this time was very grave. Dixie ended up being diagnosed with a mesenteric volvulus. I had faith that this team could perform another miracle with their surgical skills. Dixie was not expected to make it but I wouldn't allow them to give up. Dixie made it through surgery and a year later is doing very well. I'm beyond blessed to have used the services to save my dogs life. If it weren't for CTVS Dixie would not be here today.

I’m so thankful to the staff at CTVSEH for taking care not only of my pet, Brigitte, but of me too last Halloween. I had called and they told me to come in immediately. Within thirty minutes, we had a diagnosis and made sure Brigitte had a peaceful passing in their private room where I could spend time with her before her last moments. Brigitte passed at 15 years old from heart failure but thankfully was not in pain because they were swift in their care. I will never forget my experience with them and I am so beyond grateful that they were available to tend to Brigitte. Should I adopt a pet again, I would not hesitate to bring them to this facility again for urgent care. I am floored by their compassion, professionalism, and their kindness to me. They not only sent me a card offering their condolences but I also received a paw print of my best friend that I can cherish forever. I’m so thankful for you guys. We called Saturday morning letting you know of our elderly dog’s emergency needs, and they were ready for us as soon as we walked in and led us to the back with a table and IV/etc ready. We got the heartbreaking news and had to make a quick decision. The vet let us know that she was behind us either way and didn’t push us one way or another, which I’m really thankful for. I’ve had other experiences at other emergency vets, where they guilt you into doing things that aren’t best, just for money- so this was really nice. We got to spend our last moments with our dog and just received his remains today, which included a paw print, his hair, ashes, a name plate, and grief literature. I’m eternally grateful for the care and grace that was put into our emotional process of this ordeal. Thank you so much, and I recommend very highly. The vets saved my beloved Great Dane's life! My dog had suffered bloat (GDV) which is fatal without swift surgery. We called ahead when I rushed her in and they immediately evaluated her and had the on-call surgeon on the way in no time. The updates from the doctors and staff were frequent and specific. All of the staff genuinely cared for Cowie and would always answer any questions that I had. Every member of the staff from the front desk, to the vet techs and the vets showed extraordinary care and compassion. They were upfront and transparent on the possible price range and explained every detail. There are options for CARE credit and other financing. Our procedure came in at even less than the originally quoted low-end price! If your pup is in trouble get them to CTVSE ASAP and know that you are in the best hands. Thank you SO much to all of the staff and doctors that saved Cowie's life. You prevented a horrible tragedy for our family.

HORRIBLE, Please do not take your baby here unless it’s literally the last option you have. The staff is horrible. I waited 6 hours to finally be seen but before that they told me a doctor was ready to see me only for a nurse to come out and say that no doctor was available and the doctor waiting to see me had “gone home” then to immediately see me after I made it clear I wasn’t going anywhere. They are horrible people that only want you gone. I tried to be as patient as I could with them since I know they were dealing with more serious matters but for my dog who was having seizures in her legs to be ignored for 5-6 hours is totally unreasonable and crazy. Again please only use this place as a last resort. And whoever is replying to all the negative reviews trying to save face. Don’t bother with me as I know nothing has changed from reading all the past negative reviews. You only say you’re gonna change and try to do better.

My wife and I were referred to this clinic by our new vet in the area. Our baby had what our vet thought to he an ACL tear. We were clearly concerned and nervous. The doctor, Ms. Bailey, was absolutely helpful and explained everything. She was very knowledgeable and answered every question we had. She put us at ease as much as we could have been. Our puppy underwent surgery and the employees helped us every step of the way. We have called and emailed them several times since the surgery and they have gotten back to us the same day with more than enough information to move forward. I don't know how much our surgery should have been, we just wanted our puppy to be healthy. With that being said, it was a little pricey for our procedure. I'm not upset about the amount that we paid given the attention that we got. Overall, I am very happy with our service. Our puppy is still in recovery so please wish us luck.

The vets at this clinic saved my dogs life plain and simple. My English Bulldog, Charlie was munching on a bone and he bit off more than he could chew and started choking on a very large piece. After trying the Heimlich, it was apparent we needed to rush him in. They sprinted out to me right when I got there and immediately started working on him. They acted fast, clearly communicated what was going on, made me and my fiancé feel comfortable while staying realistic. They kept him overnight for 2 nights and made sure everything was okay before releasing him because of complications with aspiration. As any panicked dog owner would do, we called incessantly asking for updates. They welcomed our calls with such kindness and provided updates every time. This happened Sunday and he is now home sleeping like nothing happened. I am forever grateful for this place for saving my dog and a huge piece of our family.

My granddog suffered a paw injury due to being hit by a passing vehicle on our walk. Our vet was out of town for the weekend and the emergency contact number referred me to CTVSH in Austin, a 2 hour drive for me. Upon arrival we were greeted by a friendly staff willing to help, he was then triaged, and taken back for further assessment by the vet. Although the total wait was 6 hours, I was periodically informed as to his progress. We left there with his back leg being casted and returned weekly (sometimes twice a week) for the next 5 weeks. Each and every time our visit was great, and the staff was always very friendly and helpful. We usually arrived early and rather than making us wait until our appointment time, they would get us right in. I am most thankful for the referral, outstanding treatment, and overall dealings with CTVSH. I would highly recommend their facility to everyone!

The past year my dog has had many vet visits through different specialty clinics, and it has been an awful experience leaving me with nothing but unanswered questions, uncertainty and a big dent to my wallet. I was referred to CTVS in January for my dog's eye issue, which I was told from a vet that it was likely a tumor or detached retina. The front desk receptionist, Amy, was very warm and welcoming from check in and check out. I had the pleasure of meeting Dr. Barnes, who was extremely informative in helping me understand ocular disease and function. I came in frazzled, consumed with anxiety, and left with answers and relief. She has a very calm demeanor, answered every question, and even cracked some jokes that put me at ease. I wish I could have her as my primary veterinarian!! Thank you, Dr. Barnes for taking great care of my Bear!

I called ahead of time, registered online, and confirmed over the phone for my cat to be taken in for round worm. They told me to come in at 5pm when more vets arrive and I did. When I came in they had to take my info again and then told me to wait. Everything was totally understandable and reasonable until a Vet came out and told me that they would not accept my cat due to it not being severe. Which I get for priority but after being told I could come in due to my cats symptoms and then denied care was a major waste of my time. I honestly don’t understand what happened or if there was an error in communication. Having to drive my sick cat across rush hour traffic and then being denied was a major inconvenience. I genuinely don’t get why there was a change in tone when I arrived after being told I could bring my cat in.

I had to take my cat in for a blockage in his nose that was later diagnosed as cancer. The teams both in the South Austin location and the Round Rock location were AMAZING! Not only did they help me take care of Scutter, they cared. I eventually had to put him down and they were amazing. They gave me time with him and talked me through everything with such detail and concern. I really felt like they felt my pain. But it doesn't end there. They sent me a card of condolence signed by the staff and then they sent me the sweetest card with a picture of my Scutter on the front and the even made a contribution to Morris Animal Foundation in his name. My heart is broken that Scutter is no longer here but somehow these 2 offices made me feel comforted. I am forever grateful for their kindness, generosity, care, and concern.

One Thursday night: our dog was obviously not feeling well. That night he threw up at least 10 times and only wanted water. Friday: to the our vet. Vet ran tests and determined Pancreatitis, inflamed liver and said to monitor him over the weekend. Gave IV fluids, medication. Monday morning: he would not move, was weak, and was close to death. Vet said we can put him down (to which I started crying like a baby) or see a specialist. Referred us to CTVSE where it was later confirmed to be a ruptured gallbladder (or Gallbladder Mucocele). Surgery was performed. 2 weeks later: Kash is chasing his favorite toy, barking at the doorbell, begging for treats and is just as lovable as ever. God bless you Dr. Kerpsack and the entire staff at CTVSE. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you, Thank you, Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!!

Took a very sick dog here as an emergency. She was seizing and shaking. They got us in right away and were attentive until we didn't have over $4,000 to treat her or $400 to put her down. We waited in the room for about an hour or so as the dog is sick. Tried to get front desk to bring someone out to help us out and no one came. They stared at my crying friend the 2nd time we tried to get someone to attend to us and they sat there and drew on their iPad. When we finally got someone they had forgotten what we were here for. We thought they might have given her something for the pain but then we heard her cry in the other room repeatedly. These people do not care about our animal babies. Do not take them here. I recommend Heart of Texas Veterinary Specialty Center in Round Rock. RIP Maisey.

My husband accidentally stepped on our puppy while playing in the yard. It was later in the evening and he didn't know what to do and I was out of town. He called me and we found this after hours hospital. As he was driving he received a call that his father had passed away. My sister called ahead and they were kind enough to put him in a private room so he could grieve and make difficult phone calls while they treated our pup. I'm very greatly for the quick care they gave our puppy and the kindness they showed my husband. They kept our puppy overnight to keep a close watch on her head for swelling and she was able to come home the next day. The cost might be a little high but I appreciate that they are open 24/7 and have a well trained staff that are efficient and kind.

We brought in a kitten we found, took my husband's info and everything. He was still filling out the paper work when they took the poor thing back for a mass it had stating it needed surgery. Called the next day for an update and met with "We can't disclose those details, maybe it was transferred to Austin animal center" called there have to wait 72 hours to see IF it's there or even still alive. What reason did you take all that information to be a jerk about it all. We still don't know anything while telling our sad kids, we don't know. It sucks! We tried to do what was right, and even maybe adopt it if it survived, and y'all can't even be decent over the phone. *Edit: Calls management in response of my review -1st call- gets hung up on, 2nd call no answer.

DO NOT COME HERE. I would give this vet 0 stars if i could. I took my cat here several weeks ago and they quickly charged me over $2000 for their “recommended treatment”, keeping him for 2 days. Then they sent him home with fleas. Now I’ve spent over $350 on flea treating my other pets in the home and my apartment. I called to complain and ask about the flea situation and they said many other owners call back and say they got fleas but it’s not possible it’s from the vet bc they do flea checks everyday.. you have to be joking, the staff here can’t even take accountability. Now that I’ve read many others reviews i would not suggest anyone to take their pet here. They take your money and send your pet home with fleas and don’t take responsibility.

Worst experience ever. We showed up with our 2yr old bloodhound, concern for a GVD (flipped stomach or perforated stomach/bowel) and after waiting in the waiting room for 2 before anyone even touched her- then I was taken to a room where I waited another 2 hours after they said they would take XRs. After asking how much longer until we got results, it was unclear how much more time before she could even get the XRs (at this time is was 2am) and I was offered the option to just go home and see my vet in the morning. If I thought it wasn’t an emergency I wouldn’t have come here, I would have waited until my vet opened the next day. BUT my vet advised me to take her to the emergency room- where I got complete non-emergent care… do NOT recommend

Dr. Nicole Antallfy and the team at the clinic took great care of our cat Mittens, when we brought him in Monday evening. They quickly assessed the situation and started treatment within an hour of us arriving. We received daily updates per phone, and could come in to see him on our own schedule. Everyone was so nice and helpful and made this whole process as pleasant as it could be all things considered. Today we picked Mittens up, and we received very detailed instructions and helpful tips for his care. So far he gobbled up the new cat food, went to the litter box twice, and just took his pill like a champ. Thank you all for everything you did to help our little guy get better. My cousin was treated horribly when she tried to take in her dog. They wouldn’t even examine him because they assumed without even a single check up or even taking a look at him that he had kennel cough. She had to drive way out of her way to another clinic and the diagnosis turned out to be a collapsing trachea. They were very rude at the front desk and told her to use telehealth. How would that have helped diagnose a collapsed trachea, which is common for his breed? I thought Vets were supposed to help sick pets. I have never heard of a vet turning away a pet during emergency hours without even seeing him. I am just absolutely appalled at how she and her dog were treated.

I came here Monday night after my 14 year old pup passed away in my arms on the way there. It was probably the worst day of my life and I would like to say that I received the most genuine care. The front desk immediately called for help and my pup was taken away to be examined. I can't remember her name, but the sweetest person led me to a room to ask me what happened. She got down on my eye level and gently asked me some questions while I sat and sobbed uncontrollably. I don't remember much, but I do remember feeling like the staff here really cared about the situation and did their best to make me feel as comfortable as I could despite the situation. What a mess. I feel bad for low income families. They will accept your dog for no less than $300 and force you to pay immediately without warning before you can get your dog back even when they do nothing aside from bring the pup into the back. The only vet there that night was rude and disrespectful to both my dog and myself. They lied to me regarding what they were doing and they lied to me about the options for surgery since one suggestion would not have even worked which would have left me with a larger bill and less time with my dog due to their failed attempt and needing more time and tools to do a different procedure. Would not take any pet here again.

We have (3) bulldogs which unfortunately have had multiple issues. The one thing common to all of them has been a torn cranial cruciate ligament in their rear leg. Out of six (6) ligaments, Dr Kerpsack has repaired five (5) of them. Each of our pets have recovered completely with no restrictions to their activities. We have had a couple long waits for our animals to be seen, but in each case someone else had brought in a pet needing life saving measures. Torn ligaments are just not that urgent compared to saving the life of another animal. Dr Kerpsack and his staff are the best in their field and I feel very fortunate their services are available to us.

Very compassionate people who truly care for the well being of your pet and the comfort of you in difficult circumstances. My dear dog needed emergent surgery and he lived longer than expected (he might have been living off love in his older years) but his surgery was successful and at the time of his passing they provided emergent after life care to make it easier on the heart for myself. I have trusted them with my sweet baby in the circumstances he faced and if I need help that can’t wait I would go to them and no one else. Compassionate people who truly do want to help you. To the staff, thank you for your compassion and passion for what you do.

The excellent vets here saved my cat from certain death. He spent over a week in their ICU. The treatment was excellent and he made a full recovery. Shoutout to Dr. Satchell in particular for his attention to care and attention to detail. Throughout the process the vets gave me informed care and did a good job at explaining my options at each stage. The vets consulted with each other throughout the process to ensure they were making good decisions. Release notes were extensive and we had thorough checkins daily. While it wasn’t cheap, it’s pretty hard to put a price tag on your pet. I wouldn’t change a thing if I had to do it all over again.

I am absolutely beyond grateful for this place, the veterinarians, & everyone who cared for my kiddo. He was hospitalized due to smoke inhalation. We were seen immediately and all the staff were so kind and patient with me even though I was pretty inconsolable at the time. I was met with nothing but kindness and compassion. Both doctors who worked on Sam’s case were very kind and informative and did their very best at keeping me updated. When I picked Sam up, there were a couple staff that stopped to say goodbye to him & gave him some love on the way out. My heart is so full & I am beyond grateful for everything everyone has done for us.

Super conflicted, I’ve brought pets here before and they have helped quickly and kindly but this third time is disheartening. My wife and I have been waiting with our puppy for 4 hours and apart from the vet tech who was friendly haven’t gotten any more help. Meanwhile we are sitting in an empty waiting room listening to one of the receptionists complaint about being asked to clean exam rooms while also coloring on her iPad. Update: We were able to get our puppy looked at the next day in Georgetown and she was in the early stages of Parvo, luckily we were able to get her admitted to a hospital in Leander and hopefully she will recover.

Arrived hoping we could get some questions about porto-systemic shunts answered, as we have a nearly 11 month old puppy afflicted by that congenital defect. Not only did we get our questions answered, but Dr. Kerpsack was very balanced in describing the competing risks and benefits of surgery vs. medical management of the condition in our pet. He also did not push for us to have extra services that would not have been helpful in the decision making process. 7 years ago, we had knee surgery for a different dog at this facility, and it turned out very well for her. We will definitely continue to use and recommend this facility.

Friday evening we noticed our dog wasn’t able to get up on her own and found some puncture wounds on her, so we rushed to get her to this emergency vet. This isn’t her normal vet but with nothing else open we didn’t really have a choice. I’m happy to report the visit went excellent. My dog is reactive and had to be examined alone, something that never happens. The techs were very attentive upon arrival, giving us updates in the lobby and the doctor was thorough in explaining everything they saw and instructions for her healing. During a time of crisis they really stepped up for my family and I’m so grateful.

I called to get an estimate about how much a c-section for my dog would be since I was told by my vet it is highly likely she will need one and if she goes into labor after hours I will need to go to animal hospital. The lady who answered the phone could only tell me how much the visit is and couldn't give me a ballpark price and instead of asking someone she just hung up on me. Someone needs to teach her how to better communicate and if she doesn't know the answer to try and find the answer. Needless to say i won't be going there and I will encourage my vet to not recommend this company.

Usually i would give a 1 star for places that dont try to save your fur baby and instead take the easy way out but they did wave the200 something fee to euthinize so thet get 1 extra star for that....although they definatly did something to her cause when i got her back she was stif as a rock......i made op my mind money is netter spent at a clinic that vet hospitals.....I love austin pet and bird clinic they charge but they TRY to save your babies life first and it my case it worked 4 fur babies saved . Wish i would have skipped the central texas and taken her to clinic instead.

I called about 7 places to be turned away, my Yorkie was suffering from a seizure and it wouldn't stop. They admitted him right away and started treatment. The staff was so kind despite me balling my eyes out for my baby, the vet was kind enough to hand me tissues, the staff was wonderful. They sent me an updated inpatient photo and kept me updated and they allow pet visits. They were pretty busy but quick. I'd recommend them for pet emergencies. After 24hrs he was released and doing better, still has side effects but that was expected, thank you to the staff.

Everyone was very helpful, Compassionate, and quick getting my dog in who was attacked by another dog. I was a little disappointed that they didn't clean off the semi dried blood to check all of his wounds before explaining what needed to be done. This was after the initial $375 upfront payment. I understand that prices are higher for emergency medical care, but $500 more just for the office visit which didn't include the treatment or meds. Thankfully I used to be a vet tech and was capable of treating what needed to be done. I am appreciative of them though.

I was helped by the front desk promptly when I arrived. They were caring and got all the info quickly. My dog had gotten into a large Cisco size bag of granola. They quickly induced vomiting and checked blood work. I got there at 3 and left around 4:30. That is pretty amazing for an ER. And they saved my precious Sammy girl. I couldn’t thank them enough. The front desk and the main hero of the Day Chris! The vet tech who was so compassionate and sweet and the doctor as well. So sorry to have forgotten her name. But she was very kind and prompt to help my dog

Recently my husband and I brought our cat Izzy in with urgent health issues. The staff was incredible during the 4 days she stayed in their care. Dr. Locke was quick to come up with a game plan for her to get back on the right track. Her and the nurses were very informative and answered all of our questions during her stay. I came to visit her multiple times during her stay and got the same pleasant experience with every nurse every time. It was a difficult week for us and they were nothing but kind. Our girl came home and it’s doing amazing!

I took a puppy that was clearly hurt to them and they said they would put a note in his file to Austin animal center that I wanted to adopt him because thats where he was to be taken to the following morning. I called the animal center and left a detailed message and they called me back and said they never received the puppy from the vet clinic. I called the vet clinic and they said they did not have him. I emailed the animal center about this and they invited me to go visit the center to see they don't have him. They are lying theives.

Incredible place with incredible people. My dog was there for a procedure recently and they were there every step of the way during and after the procedure during recovery. I bothered them many times over the phone as I was unsure as to how to deal with certain situations, and the nurses calmly and carefully talked me through everything and reassured me that the recovery was going well. Only gave them five stars because I cannot give them more, thank you everyone at Central Texas veterinary specialty and emergency.

I had an emergency with my greyhound in the middle of the night. I was worried he had bloat, which can become fatal very quickly. The staff was very helpful on the phone and very knowledgeable, friendly and caring when we came in. I have been to the Round Rock location before (the physical therapists there did wonders). It's so reassuring to know I have two great options should an emergency arise again (or if we are in need of physical therapy again). Thank you so much to the staff that took great care of us!

Took our pet here and they didn't understand his species. But they didn't tell us that until later when we called back. They said our pet was fine, but he was in distress with G.I. stasis and had not eaten nor pooped for over a 12 hr period. They do not let the parent inside the exam room along with the pet. We don't know what was done. After a $300+ charge our pet was no better off, not did we know any better on what to do. Do not recommend this hospital if you have an alternative.

I ended up at Central Texas Vet when we woke up to find our dog unable to walk and needed to find an emergency after-hours clinic. While the experience in its entirety was very traumatic being that our dog ultimately had to be euthanized, I must say the clinic staff - from the receptionist to the vet techs to the veterinarian - all treated my dog and I with nothing but kindness and compassion. I sincerely thank you for making such a difficult time a little bit easier.

God-awful service. Brought my dog in for bloat and waited an hour and 30 minutes without even being triaged. No communication beyond a somewhat rude intake and sticking us in a room. Overheard them seeing a cat for diarrhea before at even taking a look at my girl. Decided to go elsewhere and they didn’t even notice until I got a call at the 2 hour mark. Thankfully its a moderate case of bloat or my dog would be dead due to the incompetence displayed here.

The surgeons, emergency and critical care Doctors here are amazing. Truly first rate from the surgeons to the trauma and critical care teams. And the Vet techs and staff are incredibly caring, compassionate and exceptional in every way. I cannot begin to say enough good things about the team here and the level of care they have given our big dogs, including through recent emergency surgery! There is no better emergency/specialty surgery team in Austin!

One of the only places in Austin I could find late at night on Friday to give my cat multiple blood transfusions, they really helped us out through the emotional aspect and the medical one. I don't know what we would have done without them. Super thankful for all vet texts that dogs and front workers. My cat is currently in recovery and out of immediate danger, we are thankful for everyone here. They were also upfront with cost.

Dr. Kerpsack did a great job on my corgi’s TPLO surgery to repair a CCL and meniscus tear in her right hind leg. We just had our 6 week post op visit and she is healing wonderfully. Shortly after surgery, she was able to put weight on her leg and is now walking well. We still have a few weeks of recovery in front of us but I’m confident she should be able to have a full recovery, all thanks to Dr. Kerpsack and his team at CTVSH.

The staff was so sweet, helpful, and direct. I came in with my dog who I had thought got bitten by a rattlesnake, and after they assessed her and gave her a clean bill of health, they let us go free of charge. They were super busy but still had a system in place to help everyone get seen. I will forever go to them for any future emergencies. The staff was very knowledgeable and personable as well, despite the chaos of an ER Vet.

Did not have a great experience with the doctors there. The vet assistant was wonderful but actual veterinarians didn't properly look at my pet and after spending $500 and the wrong prognosis have to go to another vet to spend more money and get the correct medications and treatment. If not truly an emergency and you can wait to go to your normal vet please do so or go to Austin Vet Emergency and Specialty off of Ranch rd.

The front desk staff that was on site this past Friday night 7/14 needs more training on overall customer service. The entrance door was digitally unlocked by the front desk, and as I walked in, not a single "Hi, what can I help you with?" Just blank stares... It's just not a very welcoming first impression at all. I ended up leaving with my pup and going to another facility who listened and took care of us.

Saved my little cat after he was hit by a car. I brought him in after hours and they took him in immediately for treatment. They were incredible at communicating with me throughout my cats treatment, even between shift changes. The whole staff is responsive and kind and take time to get to know both the pet and the owner. Dr. Krista Adamovich was the best care provider we could have ever asked for. We were so fortunate to have someone with her skill level attend to the care of our dog. My 3 yr old Morkie Maggie Mae had a seizure and I was freaking out! I took her here and everyone was so wonderful. It was crazy busy with all kinds of after hours emergencies, so depending on what you're there for, you might wait a bit. I'm grateful I have pet insurance on Maggie because now we are following up with a neurologist to see what's up. When in need, definitely go here.

We have been to this location (unfortunately) numerous times with our golden Mumford (8); he had two ACL surgeries, received the most gracious care from staff (on multiple visits) after being attacked by a dog, & most recently he had a meniscal tear surgery. We are so grateful for Dr. Kerpsack & the Central Texas Veterinary Specialty staff, hopeful for pain free days ahead!

Stay away from this hospital. They will demand $1000 deposit and will charge outrageous prices. I understand it costs a lot to run a 24 hr hospital. It's their practices that are highly questionable. Our vet also said that all rabbits died. OMG, all animals and humans die but that is the last thing we want to hear from our vet. Not a business that operates with integrity.

The price is high but you can apply for a payment plan on-site. I was refunded the money for the procedures/drugs my pet ended up not needing (had to pay a full deposit just in case). They saved my pet from an overdose of 5-HTP. A very rare occurrence but deadly if not treated immediately. They acted quickly and took every measure to make sure my baby survived.

They saved my dog's life!!!!! I ran in at 8 pm shouting "I have an emergency" and they took her immediately for care. I am so thankful. Dr. Kleiman and the emergency staff are first rate. Dr. Kerpsack and the surgery staff took great care of my dog during her recovery. Everyone was very professional and empathetic to both the patient and their panicked owners.

Central Texas Veterinary is simply too expensive. It really makes a pet owner feel that vulnerable situations are being taken advantage of, especially when no payment plan(s) are offered. While the staff at the South location are pleasant & usually work fairly quickly to see incoming patients, from an organizational level, the cost(s) of care are unethical.

My little dog JoJo started throwing up and passing large quantities of blood. We showed up at midnight and the staff were caring and took really great care of our fur baby. She stayed 2 nights with them and they were never too busy to take my phone calls when checking up on her. She has made a full recovery and is back to her old plsyfull, silly self.

Dr Kerpsack and his assistant Lee are wonderful. Efficient, effective and caring- a rare combo. My cat had stomach lesions and bladder infections and stones for 2 years. Her surgery with Dr Kerpsack fixed the bladder issues and combined with new meds cleared the stomach lesions completely. She’s active, slimmer, and much happier now. Thank you!

Our 3 year old cat was blocked and his potassium was so high, he ended up with a temporary heart murmur. We brought him straight from our vet. Everyone was very kind even though they were busy. The kept our cat in the ICU for 2 days and he was released after. Now he is back to his normal self. We appreciate the care that was provided for him.

My pup was hit by a car and they were able to get her in immediately. There were long waits between updates but they were also really busy. Staff was okay but no one really seemed to enjoy being there except for one or two techs. Overall, it was useful for an emergency but I was happy to transfer to our regular vet for follow-up care.

I am so thankful for this place! I recently took my dog in during the middle of the night because he suddenly started crying out in pain. I was expecting to wait a lot longer and spend more money during the visit. Everyone was very friendly and helpful which made me feel at ease. He was given some meds and is feeling much better now!

Very knowledgeable and compassionate staff. I was there for an ophthalmology referral and had a drop off appointment. I arrived at 7:30 am and my dog was not seen until almost 4pm. They take patients based on triage, so if your pet is stable, be prepared to wait. I was from out of town, so leaving and coming back was not an option.

Doggo decided to split her due claw on Christmas Eve, and with our regular vet closed, we came in on Christmas Day. Staff was great. Doggo was in and out after a quick nail trim, and we were on our way. This has been our second experience at this location, and can’t say enough great things about the staff and doctors.

When I came in I was very very nervous but when I got there and learned nurses. The front end reception is for helping I found a little bit more relaxed and more comfortable punctual.
