Oh my God!! This was a revelation and a half! We had been to the Chanel exhibition at the V&A and missed lunch, so at 17.30 went to the cafe at the museum where you could get a single scone for 6£ & not much else. Just returned from France and we'd had our daily fill of patisserie & vinnoiserie. We were on our way to 'The Mousetrap' next & my hubby suggested 'grabbing a selection of bites' from China town. I was sceptical, but we walked in there & the fragrance could rival a French patisserie! So we got a whole lot of stuff (garlic bun, red bean pumpkin bun, peanut cake, mochi, pork bun)which all came in generous sizes and it only cost £10!?!? Then we sat outside on the benches and I was amazed at how soft and fluffy and delicious everything was! Also the queue looks long but moves very fast and there are 3tills which don't let the grass grow under their feet. There were tourists from America and india and it was jam packed but the atmosphere was happy and festive, ike some Christmas market! Everything was so scrumptious we got some more stuff to take home (a back pack full of goodies for £15) and we have been snacking on them all weekend! 15 seconds in the microwave gives them their original fluff. I can't wait to go again & try more stuff!

I was excited to try the taiyaki ice cream at Chinatown Bakery, as the long line of customers with their red bean paste or soft serve filled taiyaki was enticing. However, it fell short of my expectations. Taiyaki with Soft Serve Matcha Ice Cream: The taiyaki at Chinatown Bakery had a delightful taste and texture. The batter had a hint of glutinous rice flour, giving it a chewy texture that was enjoyable. However, as a matcha fan, I was disappointed with the soft serve matcha ice cream. The matcha flavor tasted powdery and lacked the authentic taste of high-quality matcha. It felt like regular soft serve ice cream with a hint of matcha added. Despite the promising appearance of the taiyaki with soft serve matcha ice cream at Chinatown Bakery, the taste of the ice cream left me wanting more in terms of true matcha flavor. Nevertheless, the taiyaki itself was enjoyable with its unique texture and taste.

This bakery is amazing. In my whole bisite I ate here definately more than 10 times. I love especially the vanilla sponge cake because of how fluffy and sweet it is, and the buns are also amazing. There are also drink and other sweet and savory items that you can buy. They cook delicious taiyaki that you can buy nice and warm. All the pastries are always renewed and they are always warm because of the fact that they were made a small time ago.The prices are not high and this place is quite cheap. The staff are super nice and we even had a small conversation ecause they remembered us from the day before. The location of this bakery is also very practical because it is located in front of a open spaces where there are a few rows of tables. I 100% reccomend going there for desert or even a light lunch.

The freshness of the buns and mochi is a reflection of the insanely high turnover. The queue is long for a rumbly tummy but it moves quickly. It's worth it. The pork bun is at least as good as those I have had in HK, S'pore and M'sia. We bought a whole bunch of stuff to try out &it came in under £10. It was so tasty and so very soft we promptly went back and bought a whole lot more to take home. Snacking on them through the weekend, 20 seconds in the microwave and just amazing!

I have been here for many time and for many reason. This place was always my favourite and I hopefully those product have a sustainable innovative idea where always fullfill the people who love food. This place is always busy but if we cooperate well with the bakery tempo, there are no issues with the service by the staff where I always receive a pleasure and polite service from the staff. Just act quick as this place is a take away shop, and they serve you quicker just to prevent your precious time to be wasted. Highly recommended to people from the world as their bakery is a a good honour to represent Asian bakery and they are happy to greet with you if you are from South East Asia.

  • Jamie Marie

They had small taiyakis and thought there’d be more flavours in their fillings. It looks like it was just custard. The taiyaki was lovely; however, some were too hot, too cold, and just the right temperature. Nevertheless, they have lots of selections inside the store. Add on: been here multiple times already, and I always grab their snow ball and the sesame seed ball. The snow ball reminds me of home, we have the same type of “dessert” called Macy, and I missed that. The sesame seed ball also tasted like “Buchi” but bigger here, and I also missed it. The sesame ball is a bit oily, so I had to place it on a tissue to get rid of the oiliness and the greasy part of it.

I just can't emphasize enough how incredibly delicious Pandan cakes are! They were so scrumptious that I found myself heading back to Chinatown the very next day just to have them again. Pandan cakes are an absolute must-try from the bakery. The staff here is friendly & quick. Always keep an eye on your belongings. When you enter, swing through that left door, grab a tong & tray- it'll be easier to stack up your food. Payment's a breeze; they take both cash & cards, & the bags are just 10p. Don't limit yourself to just one treat- explore and enjoy the bakery's diverse offerings. My top recommendations are the Pandan Cake, Chicken Curry Bun, & Taiyaki.

  • Emma Hale

I love the Chinatown Bakery! I can definetly recommend the "Spring Onion and Pork Floss Roll". The pastries are mid-priced and the staff is friendly. The selection of pastries is diverse, the bakery itself is relatively small though. So if you're a food lover and interested in Chinese pastries you should definetely pay a visit to the Chinatown Bakery. But keep in mind that you need to pay by card, in case the pastries you want to purchase cost under 10 pounds. By the way right next to the shop is a little stall, where you can purchase hot Baozis (hot buns with variations in fillings (meat/vegeterian)). They're very popular in the Chinese cuisine. Enjoy!

The place to go in China Town for sweet and savoury baked goods including BBQ pork buns, black sesame rolls, custard buns, pineapple buns, black sesame rolls and Taiyaki’s (fish shaped cake filled with custard). The interior is divided across two rooms with the checkout area getting crowded at peak times. Keep in mind there is no seating inside the store. Instead buy your items and walk to the large area with public seating. Price wise Chinatown Bakery is one of the better priced shops in the area. One of my favourites, the red bean bun is fresh, gooey and priced at £1.85 it is a yummy good value dessert.

  • Elizabeth

Forget all the bad reviews this place is amazing- it’s reasonably/cheaply priced (most pastries are in the £2-3 range, it’s very clean and there’s a huge variety of pastries ranging from their spongy pandan bun to the takoyaki they make right in front of you!! They could only ever be described as amazing- they’re incredibly soft, massive, and authentic,, the only ‘con’ of this place could be the customer service as the staff are quite cold hearted but the pastries really are worth it!! At least to me!! sorry if this review is incomprehensible but trust me you won’t regret buying a pastry from them !!

  • Magdalena M

One of the best places I've been to in Chinatown. I was there during the Moon Festival, so they had freshly made mooncakes. Overall assortment of Asian pastries is amazing. Definitely reccommend trying the mochis, cookies, mooncakes (if available), taiyakis and the egg tarts!! Egg tarts were probably my favorite. Nothing was overly sweet and everything was so tasty! Sadly there is nothing even remotely similar to this place where I live, so I can only dream about visiting London again and eating all these pastries ☺️

  • Brianna McShea

Really enjoyed the coconut roll and the strawberry cake! Both were light and fluffy and the perfect desert. All the pit-pocketing signs and warnings over the loud speaker were a bit odd… but I guess better than not warning people. For the record - we did not have an issue with that while visiting.

I’ve been visiting this place since 2012 and it never disappoints me. The bakery pastries are the same as Hong Kong pastries and everytime I am in London it’s a must go for me. My favourite pastries are the pineapple bum and the cream with coconut bun. YUMMMMMMMM. And did I mention their chocolate Swiss roll is addictive? Their egg tarts are too good to be true. They also sell fresh sweet tofu which is delicious just like back home in Hong Kong.

  • Peter L

So many cakes. Lots of colouring, but they do look great. The prices are reasonable too. I think they sell so much at this spot, that they keep prices competitive. Visit and check out the cakes

We bought several sweet and savory dishes. We also tried Taiyaki, just I was a bit disappointed that they were filled with custard and not red bean paste, but they were very good so it didn't matter. I was so excited about some of the dishes that when I'm in London again, I'll definitely go and get some and take some home. The staff is nice and helpful, everything goes very quickly here, so we didn't wait in line for more than a minute. I definitely recommend trying it.

  • Amy Sutton

We got the Taiyaki, tiktok made me do it and I'm not mad about that. They were cute little fishies that are baked right in front of you. Helpfully the bakery has a separate window to order these little gems so you don't have middle aged social media addicts clogging up the bakery for good decent patrons that want to shop like regular people. These were hot as lava, but tasty! The custard inside wasn't too sweet and just a lovely consistency. Would definitely recommend.

  • Whole World Traveller

An excellent range of very tasty cakes. Its popularity was evidenced by a large queue of customers both outside and inside the shop and cakes were literally flying off the shelf. My wife chose the green coloured moon cake which is her favourite and very tasty. She got me a tiramisu style cake which again was very yummy. The cost clearly reflected the location of the shop in Soho, but was worth every penny. One to return to next time we are in London.

Wonderful Chinese bakery in China town, Ldn We wanted to try it for a long time but since there’s most of the time a huge queue to try the pastries we didn’t, let’s say the queue is worth the wait, we paid 2,50£ for the pastries and there are absolutely amazing.

Very busy and very well run Bakery set an the heart of Chinatown with everything from savoury pork buns to vanilla cake and everything in between. Prices are very reasonable on average just over £2 for a bum or a piece of cake. They are constantly stocking shelves with fresh produce and even though it may look very busy you will be able to select your chosen buns or cakes and move through to the checkout till swiftly.

  • Naveen Bisht

Sweet delights. Buns are so soft and delicious, coconut toppings, caramel fillings, custard fillings, cakes, tarts, all good stuff. Shop is tiny for the amount of customers it gets, very busy at times but well worth the wait. The price of the items is also very reasonable, compared to the size of the portion it is definitely a treat. Not a lot of bakeries that sell these portions and certainly not at that price.

  • shay maa

The buns weren’t as fresh as I expected them to be. The lady is kinda rude I asked if I could microwave my bun and she went no that’s for staff only!! I mean wasn’t going to cause no harm if I used it for 20 seconds. Overall an okay ish experience, they’ve got a wide variety of buns, not as fresh as you might expect them to be, but for a 2 quid worth, it is reasonable. The lady on the till was nice and helpful.

  • Shuyu Lin

A must-go Chinese bakery in China town. It has all the traditional Chinese bakery - including egg tart, 油条, red bean bun, 老婆饼 etc. It also has HK milk tea and 豆浆 in conveniently packed bottles / boxes. The price is really reasonable. We often bought around 10 different buns and it costs around £20. The cashier is so efficient that even tho the queue is always long, it takes less than 5min to get checked out.

  • 車厘娘娘

Got the pandan triangle cake and guess what I had a stomachache after eating it! I suppose other pastries are not fresh either so absolutely don't recommend. Only decent thing is that they have a range of pastries to select from. And the queue was super big

I love this place. I come here often to buy both savoury and sweet yummies. There is a huge selection and even though it is very busy, they jave a good system and you get served efficiently. The only negative thing is that staff come across as rude. I realise it's cultural difference more than attitude; but even when they say "excuse me", they sound as though they are telling you off.

  • Amin Ol

Overcharged and terrible customer service. I was charged £10 for 3 custard buns and 1 nutella fish. The lady didn't offer me a receipt and I have come to find they've done the same to many others which is not right. Considering each costs less than £2, this can't be correct. Avoid these unscrupulous cheats.

This place is a Pandan heaven. Have tried their Pandan bread and the cake and it’s nothing but perfect, both were light, perfect on sweetness and so pocket friendly. The place is really busy and staff is efficient, serving customers as quickly as they possibly can. A massive slice of Pandan cake only costs £1.60. Could definitely recommend for Pandan bread and cakes.

Best bakery in the whole of chinatown. Must stop for their fresh, on-the-go Takiyaki! If you feel a bit curious, do get inside and grab a bit of everything and you will not be disappointed. I recommend their cheesecakes and pineapple bun, but expect a super quick, no frills service. Prices inside are a bit higher than average, but absolutely worth it.

  • Jack Robson

First time trying moon cake. Chose the pandan flavour. It’s good, like a sweet pastry with the pandan paste and an egg yolk inside (sounds weird but the sweet and savoury/salty flavour blends well together). There were a heap of other bakery items there that I would’ve liked to try. They have a sign up saying beware pick pockets so be extra careful…

  • Sara B

I finally got myself a pandan cake - it was so soft and delicious! They are freshly prepared and you can enjoy them on the benches outside the shop. Also saw taiyaki being sold at their kiosk window and I couldn’t resist - these fish shaped treats are filled with custard and were perfection. I’m coming here every time I go to Chinatown from now on.

  • Krishnan Unni

Get a taste of classic Japanese fish-shaped cake (taiyaki). Also be privileged to see it baked in front of you. You can't get it closer than this. Definitely a must on every visit to China Town. Aside from taiyaki, there is a treasure trove of sweet and savory baked goods inside. So plan ahead of what to have and what to let go untill next time.

  • Dimples S (부-인)

Friendly staff, I especially love the hygiene here! Something you don't see everywhere. Everything is freshly baked, which is a bonus. The pastry is light and delicious but not sickly sweet and the prices doesn't break the bank either. Taiyaki and the red bean buns are my absolute favourite. But I'd happily eat anything there

  • Trinity Cash

I wish I could give this place more stars! This bakery is soooo good. Whenever I visit london I always make sure to stop off here. Their vanilla triangle cake is delicious I always make sure to get two as they’re so moreish. I’ve never tasted a cake so good. Their pork bun also delicious. I have never had a bad experience.

  • Winnie Xu

Pretty good bakery, wished they were less overpriced though. The cakes were quite dense and not super fluffy which likely means they use good ingredients and less stabilizing agents, for better or worse. The youtiao very chewy and delicious, not the crunchy type. HK milk tea was basically a kopi c losing, very nostalgic.

  • Emma Rahman

This tiny nook in Chinatown has amazing pastry and baked goodies! Today opted for the taiyaki, the lines were so long but props to the business, there were two lines : one just for taiyaki and the other for inside the bakery. The Taiyaki line moved very swiftly and they were delicious and warm for a lovely winter day :)

  • Kasia Haładyn

They have many delicious things to choose from. Everything seems fresh. I’ve tried taiyaki with custard and I liked them, although I really wanted to try taiyaki with nutella, but they didn’t have them at that moment, so I’m a little bit disappointed. Maybe next time! Place is undoubtedly worth visiting! :)

  • Rob Cassey

I'm only saying what hundreds of others have before, but this place is amazing. So much choice, reasonably priced and delicious. I bought some Pandan Cake, a Cream Bun, a Pineapple Bun, Pandan moon cake and some Taiyaki. All absolutely gorgeous. If in London make a stop here and you won't be dissapointed.

  • Lana-Mae

Delicious food!!! Lots of buns and cakes and breads to choose from and all are baked very fresh! Delicious soft texture and desserts aren't too sweet! Absolutely must try the Taiyaki! The custard is delicious! The price is very reasonable especially for the portions!

  • Phoebe Louise

Bit cramped inside and not completely organised but that’s the only reason for the 4 stars instead of 5. The cream filled bun is delightful and the taiyaki custard filled fish are so so good and even better when left to cool . Definitely get here if you can …

Excellent bakery! Prices are affordable and the sweets are delicious. I buy Taiyaki there everytime I pass it. So soft and tasty. But be careful not to burn yourself when eating, they are very hot. It's probably the best quality/price desert you get in Chinatown.

  • Poom Settha

Delicious Asian style sponge cake and pandan loaf. Both are about £4 altogether. The bakery was very busy and the queue was long, but the line moved quickly. The big benefit of this bakery is the location and that they accept even a small credit card payment.

The lady was kind enough to give me a free bread. I get bread from this bakery most of the time Im in London. It is really good. I like their black sesame, chicken floss and pork buns. I tend to buy a lot and give it to my friends back in Chichester …

This is one of the top Chinese bakeries in China town. On weekends you can queue up to get 4/8 little custard fish to go. They are made on the spot with a cute little machinery that bakes them in few minutes. You can also go cake shopping inside the store.

  • zuzka

Always a must visit when in Chinatown. Prices are very affordable, and shelves are constantly stocked with fresh produce. They have a variety of baked goods from sweet to savoury, and although it is usually quite busy, the line always moves quickly.

  • Maya Hazelgrove

The pork buns, pork roll, garlic roll, coconut mochi are all amazing. Quick service and wide variety, I want to return and try it all! I wouldn’t recommend the pandan cake as it’s a bit flavourless and dry but still it has a great spongy texture!

  • Anna P

These fish-shaped pastries are amazing! They're freshly baked right in front of you and served piping hot, so be careful. The custard filling inside is incredibly fresh and delicious. This place has quickly become my favorite spot in Chinatown.

  • Donna

Absolutely love this place. Get the little custard fish - Taiyaki from the outside window, 4 for £2.50. Inside, I recommend the vanilla or pandan triangle cakes, fairly cheap for a large slice. Probably the best sponge cake I've ever tasted!!!

  • Mehnaz Alam

Its a haven for dessert lovers. Some of the desserts are nice. The place is huge and located right at the centre of Chinatown. Easily accessible and they often have something being cooked or baked fresh. The prices are quite good with cakes

Best char shiu bao (bbq-ed pork buns, packed full of flavourful ingredients) and pandan chiffon cake (so fresh!) in London. Everything looks to be baked fresh on location. The custard-filled fish, sold at the window, is also a hot favorite.

In the span of 5 days (on holiday), we went 3 times. If you can, try everything, but I would especially recommend the taiyaki (hot or cold) and the pandan cake.

Everything is freshly baked, the place is very clean, you've got to wear gloves. Our favorite were the fished shaped pastries filled with delicious custard.

Love the taiyaki when it’s really hot ! So so good and the coconut cream cake which is the green one literally like a pillow so spongy. Tastes so good

A good place for those who like sweet food. All fresh and looks good, but all we tasted were very very sweet. Also, a lot of bread and little stuffed.

Very busy small bakery. Many, many tasty things to buy. The small hot fish cakes at the entrance are the best. And the custard filled bun!

It's a very Hong Kong typical bakery. Taste and price is about average level. Recommend for who is missing Hong Kong style pastry

The buns were so fluffy and soft that would melt in your mouth. I loved the almond cake n plain cake. Would really recommend it.

Maybe not my taste, but I ate only half of the black sesame bun, and it tasted a little but off, so I thrown the rest of it.

Great bakery with amazing fresh pastries. Can especially recommend the pandan roll bun and youtiao. Very hygienic as well.
