My experience with Christian Brothers Automotive hit every concern and worry I had when going to a new mechanic. I was worried about being overcharged, strung along, and under-delivered services. While I saw that other people recommended them and had good reviews, I think my experience may have been atypical for the company but left a blemish on my view of them. I ended up paying $2,000 to replace a power steering pump due to a poor quality control inspection. I was not notified that the vehicle was ready until a week later. Based on my experience, I would not recommend further business with them; however, I hope your experience is different. On June 29, 2023, I dropped off my car because it was leaking power steering fluid. I asked them to replace the hoses because I knew they were old and was told they had to test the system before they did any work. I was contacted later that day and told they couldn't get enough pressure and needed to replace the power steering pump before they did anything else. I paid the $75 inspection fee and ended up waiting to get the services completed. Around July 12, I contacted them to tell them I wanted to get the power steering pump replaced and arranged to have it dropped off on Tuesday, July 18, at night to help work around how busy their shop was. I dropped off the car and left the keys with a note that said to replace the power steering pump. The vehicle was checked in on Thursday, July 20, and their system texted me a notification. Friday, July 21, 2023, I was sent the invoice for the power steering pump replacement; however, I was also charged for a brake fluid flush that the technician recommended, but I did not authorize it to be done. At the time, it was not something I brought up to the attention of the sales representative at the desk. The entire weekend my vehicle was leaking power steering fluid. I had to refill the power steering fluid twice between picking it up on Friday and when I turned it back in. I contacted Christan Brothers Automotive and informed them of the problem on Monday, July 25, 2023. They were very responsive over the phone and requested that I send them a video of the leak falling steadily. They asked me to bring the car in on Tuesday so that they could inspect it. Thursday, July 27, I was told that the hose cracked and caused the leak with the new power steering pump. This was a severe point of frustration since I requested the hose to be replaced when I first visited, and the technician didn't catch it when they replaced the power steering pump or tested the system. When I spoke with the gentleman at the front desk about my disappointment with the quality, control, added fees, and cost, he stated that they would waive the labor fee. Monday, July 31, 2023, I was told that he couldn't authorize waiving the labor fee and that management would only waive half of the labor cost. I ended up approving the replacement cost to fix the hose. I followed up with them through their messaging system on Wednesday and Thursday to find out if the work on my vehicle was complete, and I didn't receive a response until Monday, August 7, 2023. The gentleman at the front desk, who had been helping me, stated that my car was ready, but he had a medical emergency and was out of the office. My point of frustration is the lack of notification and response from the other staff that the car was finished while I had to make other travel arrangements.

May 6, 2021 Review for Service on May 4-5: Adjusting my review from 5 stars to 2 stars. A week or two after my first visit (see below), I started experiencing pulsation in my brakes. After my car was inspected yesterday, May 5th, it turns out that the rotors were in fact warped and so they needed resurfacing and new brake pads. It seems that when it was checked the first time on March 19th, the rotors were not inspected thoroughly (possibly because it was a Friday afternoon and they didn’t feel like doing their due diligence?). Additionally, I was given a 2:30 pm appointment on May 4th. I left work early that day to drop off the car and was told the oil change and tire rotation could be done that day, but that diagnosis of the brake pulsation and delayed start/ignition wouldn’t take place until the next morning. Sounds fair. But when I called the next morning at 8:30 am, nothing had been done. So what was the point of the 2:30 appointment the day before and having to leave work early? This place gets backed up probably due to the fact that they are closed on weekends. While that seems great for employees, it is highly inconvenient for customers. They also found other issues with my car but I decided not to have them fix those because I found these services cheaper at another shop with more convenient hours and quicker turnaround times. Also, they charged me $62 just to diagnose the starter/ignition delay - would it cost this much elsewhere? Probably not and, in hindsight, I should have been more skeptical before approving that job. All that said, I do appreciate their resurfacing my rotors instead of fully replacing them which is what the other CBA recommended (see below) and which would have cost more. March 20, 2021 Review for Service on March 19: Unfortunately another CBA recommended new front brakes and rotors for me which would have cost about $450. That was several months ago and I am glad I did not pursue those repairs. Just yesterday I checked out this CBA in Alamo Heights since it is closer to my place. It turns out I still have 80% of my front brake pads and I did not need the replacement. I appreciate their honesty and enabling me to keep the money in my pocket for now. They completed my state inspection for $7 and I was well on my way! I appreciate their available appointment times, timeliness, communication, and honest work!

In June, I brought my mother's Subaru Forester in to have the AC evaluated because it was not cooling. The recommendation was that the entire AC system needed to be replaced. My mother is 81 and I live in Alaska and would not be able to help her over the summer so I convinced her to spend the over $2000 to do the replacement. I left for home, assured that she would be cool in the crazy Texas heat. Three weeks or four weeks later I got word that the AC had quit cooling completely. She could barely get to the places she needed to unless it was evening. So much for feeling assured she would be cool and safe in her car. She lives in Houston so my brother who also lives out of state convinced her to take it to another Christian Brothers. They made a repair to the NEW system that may have been damage caused to the compressor during installation. Fast forward to Sept. 23. Since that repair, the unit has stopped working FOUR times and tonight I learned that a gallon or more of water was pouring into the passenger floorboard and the AC is making very weird noises. Though it seems that Christian Brothers has attempted make this problem right, the fact remains that my mother is driving around worried all the time waiting for the next time her $2000 new system will break again and wants nothing to do with Christian Brothers ever again. They have had ample opportunity to "make it right", but now I think the only good business and possibly Christian choice is a refund. I would not ever take my car there again either. In March 2023 I wrote another brief email. The owner responded that he had tried to call but never received a return call from my mother. I said now it was the opportunity he had to deal with this situation but I have never heard from him again. My one star review still stands.

They done a full brake repair job on my car in September.. I heard a lot about them and I heard a lot of good things. I picked up my car on a Friday and I was driving it around and something didn't feel right... And again I'm new to San Antonio I moved here in June with no family no nothing and my two kids needed that car for transportation and I told the employees there the situation.. I reached out to him then that Friday night I heard back from them Monday after I was trying to take my son to school and I turned the corner and the freaking tire fell off of the car... Of course they pick me up and tried to fix it now my car has been shaking when its stopping. And when I picked it up they told me they bought new tires and they also told me that they would fix other things wrong with my car of course because I could have died my son was in the car and that tire fell off because one of their employees were negligent and put didn't put the lug nuts back on there before they gave me the car back.. I got another mechanic to look at it and I saw that there was a piece missing off of the control arm that Christian Brothers on Austin highway put in my car.Of course Monday we're fixing my fullbrake job because almost a thousand dollars. Of course I took a picture of everything...now I am about to SUE. them because they were negligent I could have died my son could have died!!!! and they cause more harm to my car and my freaking window won't go down anymore since they so called fixed my brakes

Update: I took my truck in again today for some routine maintenance. Jacob helped me check in my vehicle, gave me a lift home in the shuttle, and helped me when I picked up my truck. He was professional, polite, and knowledgeable. My truck was done earlier than expected and everything seems right. This was a completely different experience than my last visit and I was extremely pleased. Great job all around! The good: Nice enough on the phone and in person. The work got done. The bad: First, we took my truck in for brakes and a fluid change on steering fluid and was told it was a one day job, they would call if there were any issues. Made an appointment for early morning and dropped it off early. Called in the afternoon because I hadn’t heard anything. Was told the technician would give me a call in a few minutes. Never heard a thing before the shop closed and my truck spent the night. Not a terribly big deal, but would have been nice to get a call. Then took my wife’s car in for a break fluid change. Made an appointment for 8:00 am and we dropped the car off the night before. Called to check around noon, still hadn’t started the work. Called about 2:00 and it had just gone back for service. My wife needed her car that afternoon so this was a bigger inconvenience. Why did I bother to even make appointments?

The cost of an oil change seemed fair as well as the cost of the original diagnostic, but everything else felt a little pricey. When they did the diagnostic on my car I was only offered the most expensive option of just replacing everything, at a cost of about $1750. They did not explain what was urgent, and what could just be monitored. I felt like Christian Brothers didn't give me agency, and purposefully kept car maintenance arcane and mysterious. When I took my car to another local garage, they found the same problems, but they just reattached the intake manifold valve that had come loose, gave me recommendations for how to monitor my vehicle, and said that if the valve came loose again, it would need to be replaced at that point. The other garage also noted the small leak in the A/C compressor, but suggested that rather than replacing the whole system, the leak was small enough that a yearly refrigerant recharge would probably be sufficient to keep me comfortable for a few more years, which is likely all the use I'll get out of that car anyway. I came out of that experience more knowledgeable and empowered to care for and make decisions about my vehicle, and only paying $220.

I admit that being overcharged for work for which I’m given the cost ahead of time is certainly mainly my fault. But I’m taking the time to write the review nonetheless because- 1) overcharging for a service is not “nice” or Christian ($500 for a transmission fluid change (kellybluebook prices it at $200)) 2) since I didn’t receive a response to my direct email, I’m (sadly) more likely to get one here 3) in addition to being overcharged, I also feel my naivety was taken advantage of (again mostly my fault, but, again, not Christian or nice) when they gave us their inspection results and it had more than 10 extra maintenance issues on there than we went in for, and I asked them which we really needed right now (since we’re on a budget), the employee advised I do all the fluids— to include a $240 fuel injection, he said recommended by Honda annually, but, of course, I realize later, not at all essential or budget-friendly… Over the years we’ve taken various cars to various Christian Brothers. I thought they were a little on the pricier side, but I’d always believed they were better than the dealership in terms or price, honesty and location… Time to find another local shop :(

If you ever need your vehicle serviced, there's only one place to go: Christian Brothers Automotive. It's nice to be able to have a mechanic shop that has a clean, organized waiting area and a clean restroom. The managers (Paul & Eric) are extremely professional and make sure that you understand exactly what is going on with your vehicle. They are detailed in their approach, in their work ethic and it shows. The technicians are a cut above the rest. My vehicle had a vacuum leak and I had been to many different auto shops and had received all kinds of different explanations. However, at Christian Brothers Automotive, I was given detailed analysis and explanations by the technician as to what might be causing the issue. Also, they pointed out of a couple of other irregularities with my vehicle that no other shop had mentioned to me. I was really impressed and, more importantly, appreciative of that. It's hard to find a mechanic shop that you can trust with your vehicle and that is going to do quality work that is based on such an educated analysis. You find that here with Christian Brothers. They have made me a client for life!!!

I needed work done on my car over a year ago and took my car to Christian Brothers after they were recommended to me. I was so impressed with their professionalism, courtesy, and friendliness. I recently had to have brake work done on my car and I remembered how great they were from my past experience. I wasn't disappointed! They went over and above what I was expecting. Paul was so helpful in explaining everything to me and working with me on taking care of the payment. He was kind and considerate. The shuttle service (thanks, Eric) was on time and never made me feel that I was a bother.You just don't find that kind of quality in car repair services these days. I have used Christian Bros. in the past as well as recently. They have always done a fabulous job maintaining my vehicles. This recent work on my Equinox is no exception. My Equinox had sat in my driveway for about 2.5 years due to illness and a wrecked leg. I couldn’t get around inside the house very well, much less outside to start the vehicle. They battery was dead after the freeze as well. Because the fluids in the car had sat so long they gummed up the works, I had them clean out the fuel system and remove the gas tank to clean it out. They also cleaned out every liquid in the car including the engine. They did a lot more. The car runs like it’s new and I feel confident that the car won’t give me any trouble due to its stagnant 2.5 year stay in my driveway. I highly recommend their services. Thanks Christian Bros.

It's been a few weeks, but I used CB because they are so close to my home. Our vehicle was not starting and nothing was working.The tow was $60. They said nothing was wrong, and it started right away. That they would pick me up as a courtesy to pick up the car. It was not ready for pickup. After paying $140, I went to the car. The hood was still up, and things were disconnected. Went back to the counter to let the guy know. After forever, he got it all reconnected, but now it was making a sound that it hadn't made before. In the end, he told me I had to take it to where I had repairs done in MARCH to correct this new problem. They get 2 stars only because they were super nice, and I appreciated the ride to the shop to get the car. But yeah, not happy that we paid $140 for a new problem.

Best experience I've had with an automotive shop. Paul was super helpful over the phone and got us on the schedule the next day. They even have a shuttle if you don't have a ride or time to wait. When I went in I talked to Paul about what was going on and he advised it wouldn't be an alignment like I thought but they would take a look at it. They did the diesel oil change at a very reasonable price and even double checked the alignment which was fine. I'm a very appreciative of their honesty and knowledge. They could have easily charged me for an alignment I didn't need and yet they didn't. Take notes business owners this how you build long lasting repeat business. I wont take our vehicles anywhere else from now on. "A breath of fresh air from your usual shady auto repair experiences!"

Christian Brothers is seriously one of the best automotive shops I've been to! My husband and I brought both of our vehicles in and the customer service was absolutely top tier. I recently got my front brakes changed at Firestone on Ft Sam, but I was still having weird vibrations and sounds, and when I took it back to Firestone they tried to charge me 900 to fix what they claimed was the issue. However, when I brought it to Christian Brothers, they did a thorough inspection and found the actual issues and fixed them for a great price. They were really helpful and thoroughly explained everything. My car drives even better than it did when I drove it off the dealership lot! Christian Brothers has a lifelong customer with me and I'll be sure to recommend them to everyone I know!

Been here several times over the years, Never a bad experience. Last week I went in for an ignition cylinder replacement, coolant leak and oil change. They pressurized the coolant system and found the coolant bypass pipe was bad, common problem with this model, and replaced it. They never preform any repairs without your authorization. Always provide detailed estimates with parts and labor costs. Paul, one of the service staff called me the following Monday and left me a nice voice mail. It was a courtesy call asking me how the repairs went and if everything was OK. Very nice touch. Some of the other things I have had done here in the past include: Transmission replacement, A/C compressor and condenser replacement and brake job. Always professional and courteous.

I was able to get my tune up, spark plugs, and engine strut fixed. Ac was worked on, but didn't get completely fixed. After the parts were order for one problem, there was another issue with the ac that was found. To fix the problem, I was told that, the heater assembly would need replacing. ($2500) to be exact. Anyway, at least they were able to stop the knocking sound, that I was hearing from the dash board and I can get some type of air from the ac. Even though, it only comes out the defrost vent and foot option. At first, it was only coming from the defrost vent and knocking, which was making the car run weird, when the ac was on. That's why, I was not using it until now. It's to hot outside(Texas) to be driving without my Air Conditioner.

Christian Brothers Automotive was amazing. I had an appointment scheduled on Wednesday morning at 8am. I had to work so I had asked to drop my vehicle off the day before so I didn’t have to reschedule. They told me up front my diagnostic test cost and told me I’d hear from them by text when my vehicle was looked at. They actually got to looking at my vehicle the day before my appointment and by the end of the day I had decided to go forth with the cost of what was wrong (oil pressure sensor needed to be replaced). My vehicle was ready for pick up the following day at 11am. They were very nice, professional, and efficient. I will definitely use them again if I encounter any other issues with any of our vehicles. Thank you so much!

I brought my truck in to have the oil change and also had them take a look at my horn and door lock. My truck was broken into leaving the door lock broken and the horn not working. They told me to replace the lock and fix the horn it would cost around $2500. I took my truck to another automotive business and they fixed everything for less than $500. Christian brothers told me the wires were cut and that I would need a new "harness".The wires were not cut and only a new fuse was needed. I'm disappointed that they would lie about that. We have been taking our vehicles to Christian brothers (not this specific location) for years for oil changes. They have lost our business in the future for this shady behavior.

Brought my car in for a noise coming from my front suspension last week. I work on my own cars when I can but have been busy lately, and decided to drop the car off with them to see if they could track it down. They found that a sway bar link (that I'd previously installed myself) had started coming loose and they offered to tighten it up for a small charge and send it back home with me to make sure the noise was gone. I appreciated their honesty on what was wrong, not charging me for a part that wasn't needed just to make a buck. They called me back today to check on me and make sure the noise was gone. Noise has since been fixed and I told them as such. it was nice to get a follow up call

Christian Brothers recently serviced my vehicle, I had a check engine light issue and also needed a Third brake light installed/replaced. I am a Triple A member and I only allow certified AAA authorized shops to service my vehicle, which is one of several reasons why I trust Christian Brothers Automotive. They keep me up to date with the with the details of my repairs and also included a detailed report of recommended and needed repairs via email and also included a virtual report of the service plan which I really appreciated and valued. What I like about Christian Brothers Automotive is their honesty and their helpfulness in suggesting what order action or maintenance should be taken. The staff is friendly, the office/lobby is clean. They have helped service two car one over 430,000 mile and now my second vehicle of 250,000 plus mile and because of this service on my second vehicle I have had no major repair and even if I needed one Christian Brothers is the only place for me. A very satisfied customer now for close to 10 years. Thanks for all you have done and though I fell short of my goal of hitting a Million miles on my Toyota Camry I appreciate the time and effort trying to help me get there.

Renewed believer in automotive repair centers thanks to Christian Brothers staff going above and beyond for my family. Paul was a blessing for quickly assisting me with my daughter's first car (Christmas present). I asked for a service to be completed and they informed me they will also do a courtesy exam as the vehicle was new to me but still used. Promptly I got an estimate below expected and so I ask if they can replace some cosmetic parts and change the cabin air filter which they agreed to at no cost. Later the day I was informed my vehicle was ready for pick up and immediately I notice the improvement and will be returning soon with other cars.

This is my 3rd excellent level review for my automobile maintenance company of choice - Christian Brothers Automotive on Austin Highway in SN Antonio, Texas. Trey Lechuga, Sales Manager, took great care of my car needs. I hate that I didn't jot down the name of the serviceman because he did a great job!!! He too deserves praise. I want to also mention how clean and neat the establishment is which is not usual and customary for automotive maintenance type businesses. So, as mentioned in previous posts, Christian Brothers is my automotive business of choice. Believe me when I say, it's the top of the line in both automotive and customer service!

Christian Brothers are awesome! These professionals know exactly what they are doing and answered all of my questions fast. Never have I had a mechanic walk me through the process of getting my AC repaired, and I greatly appreciate that feedback from them. These guys are running a solid business! The staff is always knowledgeable, helpful, and you sense that they want you to leave with a positive impression. I've worked with them on my one-off car for five years and they've always been a pleasure to work with. This time, I ran into some new staff who carry the same torch well. Got A/C repaired and tuned and coolant system repaired. I was surprised at the number of problems the car had, but the recommendations passed the eye test. Prices are a little higher, but generally worth it. Only one was one particular part they said they'd have to take out the dash to replace, but it turns out it didn't. I'm glad I did that one myself.

I was visiting San Antonio for a funeral. The starter went out on my Cadillac XLR. They troubleshot it and discovered it was actually the ECM. During the process they kept me informed, worked very hard trying to put it back on the road. However, due to a parts issue. It couldn’t be fixed immediately. I flew back, drove my truck and car carrier back and when I arrived my front brakes on my truck went bad. They immediately got me in the bay and replaced them. If you want FANTASTIC customer service and friendly service, THIS IS THE PLACE TO GO! Thanks to Trey, And both Sam’s for helping and getting me through a tough situation!!!!!

Excellent customer service, very fast turn around time (I okayed the work and they had the parts ordered the next day and my truck was ready the day after that). They went above and beyond what I expect from an auto shop working with me on the price and only doing the repairs that I could afford at that time. They even dropped my truck off at my home because I was working and would have been out after they closed -amazing-! I will definitely be coming back and doing business with them in the future, as well as heavily recommending them to my family and friends as a no-nonsense shop that doesn't try to nickel and dime you. It's not easy to find an honest and trustworthy auto repair shop, but this is it! Between the ease of making an appointment, the rides to/from work (thanks, Eric!), the easily understandable explanations of repairs needed, the non-pushy offering of additional services available, the actual work and cost, I would definitely recommend Christian Brothers Automotive on Austin Highway. Paul was very easy to work with, followed up to make sure the repairs had been performed to my satisfaction, and made sure that I had an awesome experience. They treated me with respect and courtesy and I felt confident in their work.

This shop is in the CarMax warranty network. My Yukon was in the shop for almost 2 months over the summer for brake lights not working. Truck came out worse than when I dropped off. Multiple managers were fired during the limited time the truck was there. Short staffed, overworked, and zero hold patience when dealing the UAW strike custom service and being on hold with warranty customer service. Sam (current GM) is not a patient man and a book of excuses. All the shops shortcomings are always due to some external circumstances. DO NOT GO HERE if quality speedy work is what you need.

Went in to get my state inspection done on 6/28 and the crew there was terrific. I only interacted with Paul inside of the office, but he was extremely courteous and attentive to my needs as the customer. I observed an interaction between another employee and another customer while I was waiting for my vehicle to be completed, and the employee was very detailed in his description of how the customer needed to accomplish the service required. Overall, I was very impressed by Christian Brothers employees and will absolutely return for any services that I may have in the future.

My wife has been very pleased with CBA's maintenance of her vehicles and she's very selective about whom is trusted with them. I've noticed a rattle that I thought was coming from the under carriage and expected to replace struts / shocks in my 2014 Lexus. I made an appointment with Eric to inspect the vehicle and expected to return it when parts were in. To my surprise they told me that the noise was coming from the headliner and when they opened the sunroof it went away. No charge! The job took 10 working days, considerably longer than I expected for a mechanic problem, and was overpriced. The day after I picked up my car I found some parts hanging under the dashboard that they forgot to attach. The driver's door had a deep scratch that wasn't there before. I complained about it to no avail. Unhappy with the service overall. UPDATE: During the past week I contacted them twice, as directed in their response to my review, but I never heard from Christian Brothers. What a joke.

Went in for a tuneup, flush, and rack&pinion replacement. They quickly put together my truck since there was a part on order, so that I could use it while we waited. Tech said it was out of alignment since they thought it was gonna stay on the lot. Lost a hubcap from the front passenger’s wheel the minute I drove off the lot. Looks like they moved a back hubcap to try and hide it after getting it back. Truck still not in alignment. Wouldn’t go back. Can fix the hubcap and alignment myself later.

Of course, they will also recommend other issues they find, but you don't have to have the other things done if you dont want to, but at least you know about potential future issues. I’ve had them do two major repairs on my vehicle and it has by far been the best experience I’ve had at repair shop. The service is fast, brought the car in Friday and they had it out by Tuesday. The time before that I dropped it on a Friday and it was done by the following Friday. They can be a little more expensive but it’s worth it for the fast and quality service. Everything I’ve had done has also had a warranty as well so I can drive with peace of mind.

Normally I do not rate places, but I have taken my truck to get it fixed at 4 different places before here none could replace the part without charging 1k+ and a few days of work. I was able to get an appointment a day after I called and the same day they were able to replace it and have it ready and it was less than $500 total. I HIGHLY recommend here. Also nice little feature they text you and call you with updates as they find things or finish

Starter went out in the middle of moving while shopping at Lowe’s. Called and they sent someone to see if they could get me started, due to the starter being the issue I had no other choice but have it towed. They recommended a tow truck, it was a very reasonable price, and I had it towed to the shop. I arrived at 1244 and by 1345 it was ready to go. Great service, fair price and great time to completion. I would definitely recommend this shop.

My car was smoking really bad from over filling the vehicle with oil across the street at Walmart and they helped me a whole lot by fixing the whole issue back to good health. I had my car towed to CBA and within the next day the mechanic text, called and sent me an invoice of the repairs it needed. I had a jar time finding a Hyundai dealer where to have my car towed. No opening till end of August. CBA didn’t charge me for the few days I’m set at their garage. Not only was th mechanic most excellent customer service he returned my calls and answered any questions I had. Top notch in my book.

Took my truck there to have my air conditioner checked and have it repaired. Had to wait 1 week before I could take my truck to them. They did a review of my entire truck which I did not ask them to do. Needless to say I was completely turned off by them. I expected them to look at the problem I had discussed with them and nothing more. I did not like their way of contact less payment. I would not recommend them.

I took my IS350 for regular servicing plus to check overall performance of the car. All my concerns about my car were addressed promptly, they performed an initial diagnosis and sent a detailed report along with the cost which I think is a sign of excellent customer service. No surprises there and my car was ready by EOD. They also offered me ride back home when I dropped off the car- which was a nice gesture.

We went in for an annual inspection without an appointment and they took care of us right away. They were professional, honest and very efficient. Their costs were fair too. As they finished work on the car, a sudden thunderstorm struck and they let us wait in their very comfortable waiting room until the rain let up. Courteous service - The courtesy shuttle back home and a pick/up and return to the service center was a must for me. The only disappointment was that service to replace an oil pressure sensor took two business days. Be sure to ask how long it will take to service your vehicle before you drop it off.
