Good local cafe. Friendly. NOTE: The FINE Dining restaurant is CLOSED. This is now just the casual cafe on the lower level. Upscale cafe with a good selection of fresh and healthy items. Great for takeout or casual sit-down lunch. Seems like a University Park staple where folks ALL know each other. Private club-ish. Friendly counter service with big display case of fresh options. Iced tea was really good. Bread was not as fresh, bummer. Good spot for locals for sandwiches, soups, salads. Prices match the higher quality food. Parking can be tricky, but there is a garage underneath. They need to figure out what to do with the old fine dining restaurant area. Sad that it is still closed. The food and friendliness are probably worth the 4.5 stars. My star deduction is due to the dry bread (that came with soup) and the slow food delivery. 12-15 Minutes is slow for counter order/table service. But most folks are in no rush, so I can see the 4.5. (Some of those 4.5 ratings came from the fine dining restaurant too.) If University Park had a private cafe, this would be it.

Truly a superior gastronomic experience. The martini reminded me of my late Uncle Jim who specialized in the drink. The carpaccio was perfect with some sort of remoulade and a little pile of greens with lemon juice on top. My main course was one of the specials and it was the halibut- it was served over garlic mashed potatoes and I believe, spinach, with a wine sauce with capers. sorry for the vagueness but it was hard to see with the tears of joy streaming down my cheeks. I love fish- i'm from the North East and was raised on fresh fish- it was some of the best halibut I've ever had. My cousin had scallops which were also cooked perfectly- al dente. As for everyone else (there were 8 of us), they all seemed to enjoy their meals, but I really wasn't paying attention- I was in food ecstasy and I wasn't sharing. Would definitely recommend.

Wow! We just had an excellent experience at City Cafe. It had been about 10 years since we were last there. The dining room has been completely remodeled. I'd describe it as contemporary chic. A bonus, it is quiet enough that you can actually hear your dinner companions. The host recommend an excellent rose for me on this hot Dallas night. It was exactly what I wanted, and he worked from me telling him that "It is hot. Give me something for hot." Wonderful. We then enjoyed the hummus trio (homemade) and grilled pita bread. Then, hubby had the scallops and I had the halibut special. Again, flawless. We ended with their signature dessert, which I would describe as angel food toffee cake. The service was excellent and everyone seemed genuinely interested in whether we were enjoying it all. We will be back soon, and you should check it out.

Amazing food and prepared carefully with attention to details. The steamed vegetables by the pound are an awesome way to get healthy. The baby heirloom beets are my favorite. They also have steamed broccoli. I add a little bit of cheddar to the broccoli and I have dinner! The toasted chicken panini with mozzarella and pesto is to die for!! Get it toasted!! I love my community in Dallas and am extremely protective of Texas. I’ve recently become a political strategist which is something my mother did for years. I don’t charge money for this. City Cafe was one of my favorite restaurants ever. Great food. Lovely subdued atmosphere. White table cloths. Old style place with a lot of grace. Unfortunately they have closed after 35 years. New years eve was the last night and I'm so glad we were there. Apparently Dallas likes loud, noisy places were you can't hear each other talk. Restaurants in Dallas come and go like the weather. City cafe was an institution. One more reason why Dallas in less and less appealing to me as a place to live.

My parents have been coming here for years, but I was just recently re-introduced to the excellence that is a dinner at City Cafe. Karim, our Steward, and the staff were fantastic, and they guided us through a wonderful evening, from wine selections to specials, then dessert and after-dinner drinks. I can't recommend this place high enough. THANK YOU, gang, for making an evening with family so special!!!

From the outside, City Cafe looks like it would be a run-of-the-mill American restaurant, but once inside you feel like you've been transported to a ritzy establishment in a resort or big city. I loved the crab cakes I ordered and enjoyed the high-end atmosphere. If you're looking for a new spot to take a date, client, or anyone else that you'd like to impress, definitely consider City Cafe.

This has now become one of my go-to lunch places. They have healthy food choices, and they taste fantastic. The tomato soup was to die for and complemented the egg salad sandwich perfectly. I highly recommend City Cafe and will be returning.

My new favorite lunch spot in Dallas! The food is so fresh and delicious. Antonio, Jessy and the rest of the staff are so professional and kind. This signature passion fruit decaf tea they have is simply heavenly (and I am not a teea drinker)! They even have a free refill! Definitely worth visiting on a regular basis. Highly recommend it!

You can't go wrong with City Cafe. The ambiance is intimate, the food is superb, and the staff is truly professional. We loved it so much we had our rehearsal dinner there - and it was lovely. It's more than a meal, it's a great way to spend a romantic evening. And, if you like caramel, there is a dessert that is like no other!

Service suited to the area they serve i suppose, catering to regulars w no real help to those unfamiliar. I placed a to-go order and waited a good while before being informed takeout orders were filled in another room and entry. The guy was rude, i was not impressed. In fairness, the people on the other side were fine.

This restaurant was really good , from the outside it didn’t look much but inside it looks really great. The ambiance is good staff was great food even greater. It is not too pricey especially if u don’t drink and they do offer complimentary valet. I guess since the front doesn’t have a nice parking space .

This wonderful restaurant has been our regular anniversary dinner spot since 1988. Sadly, the fine dining restaurant closed its doors at the end of 2019, leaving “City Cafe To Go” still operating. Our thanks to host Karim and the staff that have done such a wonderful job over the years. We will miss you!

I had a great time with friends and family at City Cafe! We decided to eat there last minute and luckily there was room for us! The food was amazing (I had the sea bass) and the service was prompt and friendly. No wonder City Cafe is a Dallas staple! We will be back!

On my second visit to this restaurant, I ordered the crab cakes for lunch. I was pained by a terrible stomach ache by the time I left work that afternoon. The staff there always makes you feel like a special guest. If I return, I will stay away from the crab cakes.

ordered a cake for my daughters birthday one week in advance - called them the day I was picking it up to confirm the time and when I arrived it was not ready - I had to wait 45 minutes - their attitude was very blase about their poor service

This place is a gem in Big D. Fresh tasty food, friendly staff. Great salads, sandwiches, and a few entrees. Good for takeout too, but comfortable to dine-in as well.
