The gym is really well equipped following an refurbishment earlier this year, however, it appears that some members like some of the equipment so much they take it home with them (the Theragun massage guns seem to have completely disappeared). David Lloyd should probably conduct criminal records checks as part of the membership process, or put RFID tags on more portal items of gym equipment, and retail style anti-theft devices at the entrance/ exit to deter theft of equipment which is for the benefit of ALL members. Given the amount it costs to be a member, I would have thought that members can afford to buy their own equipment. The rules state that bags are not allowed in the gym, but as this is not enforced people take bags in and equipment out! There seems to be a lack of gym staff on duty at times which means gym rules such as putting equipment back are not enforced with the result that members are forced to go "hunting" round the gym to look for weights, kettlebells etc, the end result is that the gym often looks a mess. The use of chalk powder by some members doesn't help either as everything gets covered in a white dust. There is no need for chalk powder as these people are hardly elite gymnasts. The club has grown hugely since I joined in 2011. So much so that it is now over crowded on most days and evenings, and that is the problem. There are now TOO MANY members and the ambience at the club has deteriorated as a result. Even with a large car park finding a parking place can be tricky at times (avoid Saturday morning). Speed bumps also need to be put back in the car park as some members treat this as race track. The speed limit is 5mph, not 45mph! These are probably the same people who park in the baby/ disabled spaces, on the double yellow lines, or over two parking spaces. Parking regulations, like gym ones are not enforced by staff. Don't bother complaining as you won't get a response, apart from the automated email saying that DL have received your complaint and the occasional email saying that someone will contact you, but never does. The cafe area looks like an airport lounge and the food seems to be very expensive (from the menu). I have no idea why a health/ gym club is selling meals with chips, a well known "healthy option". Children are not allowed in the adult changing rooms (and have their own changing area) but it appears that some parents are either unable read or just ignore the notices, and don't like being challenged. The changing rooms were supposedly refurbished early this year, but not much seems to have changed. Be very careful if signing up for personal training using the app. Whilst it might be a cheaper payment option (by £2.50), what the app does not do is warn the unsuspecting client that they are in fact signing up for a subscription service with continuous payment authorisation. (There should be a pop-up on the app warning the customer). This in effect means that the client has no control of when David Lloyd takes payment for your session, and even if the card used to pay for the session expires, payments can still be taken, sometimes a week BEFORE the session takes place. The only way to stop this is to contact the card provider and dispute the payment. Lovely outdoor pool, but avoid during heatwaves as it is like Benidorm in the summer, both in terms of numbers of people and culturally; towels on sun loungers at dawn! The club should set aside times in the summer for those people who don't have children to enjoy the outdoor pool without having to put up with other people's unruly offspring. The decision in the summer to limit the outdoor pool access to members only was a good one. The club is supposed to be a "premium" club but no longer has the ambience of one, even if it charges a premium membership fee. Update 1 week after owner post below. No contact from anyone in the management team at DL Beckenham. No surprise at all as they don't care. Have cancelled my membership.

Joined just under a year ago and feel on the whole very disappointed by my experience. For the price, it’s really taking liberties to be honest. Incredibly overcrowded at anything other than the most obscure times. There seems to be no cap on new members - the “waiting list” concept is a sales tactic, don’t be fooled. Presumably they anticipate enough disgruntled members will eventually leave because they certainly don’t care about current member feedback. You might be lucky and get an automated email followed up by a cursory call with a monosyllabic staff member who neither apologises nor offers any kind of resolution. Something is always broken. Sometimes those things are fairly minor (water fountains, gym equipment etc), sometimes it’s entire parts of the spa or water leaking through the ceiling and light fixtures, both of which lasted on and off for months. With the leak, it got so bad it seemed the ceiling might cave in, not to mention the danger of water coming through electrics. The chlorine levels in the spa are so high people regularly complain about feeling unwell and it’s often so overcrowded that it’s the absolute opposite of a relaxing experience. Often a very laddy atmosphere too which can feel uncomfortable. Your contracted price can be put up with no notice which, if you felt you were getting anything like a premium or even enjoyable experience might be worth it - but certainly not as it is. The restaurant is basic at best and you will have to wait 20 mins for a £4 coffee or £6 smoothie. The adult’s lounge is regularly booked for children’s birthday parties at weekends and in the summer/ school holidays EVERYTHING at the club (especially the pool and outdoor pool hours) revolves around children. If you want a sun lounger you better get there at 6 am and stake your claim! Parking is often very difficult - in spite of a vast car park which shows how overcrowded it is - and I’m amazing people are breaking into lockers because finding a space in the changing rooms is as tough as it is finding parking. The thefts which are happening are also very worrying. The thing that irks me the most is how little the management team care. My issues with the club have compounded over time and been raised through the endless feedback they request but there’s never any care or resolution offered. I don’t feel in the least bit valued as a customer and so…. I’ll take my money elsewhere as soon as my contract is up. It’s such a shame because I was so looking forward to having access to a high quality gym and relaxing spa but I really spend as little time in there as possible now. Do my classes (some of which are great hence the 2 stars) and leave.

Unfortunately I had a terrible experience with Adam, he suspended my membership saying that I have kept my belongings in a locker for too long and had previously warned me about it and I told him I was going to move my belongings. I just needed time to buy an appropriate bag in order to do so and I did only for him to suspend my membership a day after I brought a bag in and removed my belongings. He says that I keep my belongings there for Months but the truth is: he cannot prove it. Even after telling him on a Thursday that all my belongings would not be seating in a locker he still suspended my membership and told me that it was pending an investigation but never told me what’s the investigation about? I told him I could give him all the times I was in and out the gym so he could check his cctv that I brought an empty bag in and left with it full and came back the next day with it full but he totally ignored me basically screaming on my face like an annoyed crazy person. I have a feeling that Adam is trying to punish me as I once told his colleague Corine to take my belongings back to the dressing room since they took it out of the lockers and placed inside black rubish bags. I felt extremely uncomfortable and humiliated since they were touching very personal things like underwear!! plus I felt as if they wanted to make a point by putting my things inside a black rubish bag so since that day I have Adam talking to me in a very unpleasant tone and Corine making comments with other staffs while I walk past. Rude, disrespectful and unprofessional management from Adam. We are a family of 7 members who have already given notice to leave David Lloyd for good. I spoke to the head office only to hear that those matters are dealt with at my local club so I felt frustrated as who I’m supposed to talk to if the management at my local club is causing a fuss out of absolutely nothing and taking matters personally? Awful experience that I never want to have ever again! I’m going back to my old gym for £300 less every month! It’s more than 3K savings per year and that’s only for 3 of us! My sister and her family will leave also. I was a member at a different gym for 7 years and never had a single issue ever so I’m going back there.

I am not one for leaving bad reviews so here it goes.. Last October I joined David Llyod Beckenham and then 2 days later I had to cancel the membership without ever seeing the gym in the flesh. The terms state that you have 14 days to cancel after joining, allowing you to change your mind and get your money back. So I did what was requested and emailed David Lloyd. 2 days later I had not received a response so I forwarded the previous email and emailed them again. A week later and still no response so I emailed them once more. During this period I had attempted to phone the club a grand total of 10 times and the one time someone answered I was told that they could not help and that I had to email again regarding the same issue. 2 months after deciding I could not fill my days chasing David Llyod Beckenham, I decided to try virtual chat on their website. The robot initially communicated with me and then I was passed onto a human. I explained what had happened and the lady was very nice and said she had forwarded the info onto the sales team and someone would get back to me by the end of the day. And would you believe it … no one contacted me. The next day I tried the virtual chat once more to explain I had been waiting for a call all day to no avail. This was another lady who said she could see the issue had been passed onto the sales team, and told me that she could not help with the issue as it was the sales team that dealt with that. The infamous sales team. Her advice was to email the same email I had emailed 5 times back in October/December. I emailed 2 more times and even sent an Instagram message with evidence of my conversations and there has been no response. So there’s my feedback. My first ever bad review :)

Overall the club facilities and staff are amazing and i really enjoy being a member at Beckenham but unfortunately a situation happened today that was extremely distressing and left me feeling really uncomfortable. About 10mins into my abs workout on a padded mat I was using by the boxing bags, I was aggressively interrupted by a personal trainer called Eddie and his client who was walking over my mat decided to start working out on the bike right at the end of my mat, invading my personal space making me feel extremely uncomfortable as they was so close. I politely asked if I could have a bit of space and I was shocked with the response I got. I was told that I shouldn’t be working out in this area and that I’m not aloud to use that Matt and equipment in the area because it belongs to him. I was then told that I have to use the other Matt in the stretching area and I had to move as this was for his clients to use. I felt like he was trying to bully me off the Matt so his client could use it I fairly stated that I pay a membership to use all of the equipment in the gym and that he has to wait like the rest of us to use the equipment he can’t just tell me to get off it because he wants to use it. So i attempted to carry on my abs workout and that’s when he decided to stand still on the edge of my Matt while i was trying to workout , he didn’t move and in the end I felt so uncomfortable and intimidated i had no choice but to go to reception and report this to the manger. The club is a great club with really friendly staff that work hard to ensure your safe and have a great experience. Eddie may have worked there for 20 years but his behaviour is unacceptable and shouldn’t be tolerated.

The facilities are good but... it is so busy, the spa, whilst beautiful is always heaving, which isn't relaxing. Unless you're someone who is very organised, and books classes a week in advance, you won't get a slot unless at obscure times. Cleaning could be better, there are frequent issues in the ladies where toilets are blocked. Apart from one very friendly guy in the cafe, staff in the cafe are generally disinterested, my 2 year old once got scolded on a babycino that was piping hot. Family changing room is often packed with queues for changing rooms at weekends. Could be so much better if it wasn't so packed and they had better customer service. We had to cancel because for the cost, our busy lives meant we were never organised enough to coordinate the classes we wanted to do and were wasting money. The yoga teachers are great, but classes at convenient times always booked. Meditation great alternative class, but only on twice a week at an awkward time. I attended a great dance class but only available at 3pm on a weds... But, if you're someone who would just use it off peak and regular enough to get your money's worth then there is a broad range of facilities on offer, swimming, spa, tennis etc are very nice. Gym is large, but also busy. For the premium cost, you don't get a premium service in my opinion.

So disappointing 1) Not worth the money at all. Overpriced and the gym is always full. Even if you try to avoid the rush hour (eg after 9pm) many times I've had to turn back and go home as there's been someone in every single weight machine, bench and none of the equipment available. It is obvious that the gym's only intention is to make money, Not really bothered to increase the number of equipment nor maintain the standard but just keep enrolling more and more members. 2) Equipment are frequently not working and not clean. Tissues stuck inside machines, Stains on the floor. 3) Personal trainers are unfriendly. Only show interest to certain members. Not helpful. 4) Toilets stinks like a public toilet. Only 1-2 cleaners for the whole gym. Again I suppose to save money. Can imagine the level of cleanliness. 5) Not transparent with their membership prices. Why not mention the membership cost in the website like every other chain and not be so secretive? 6) Joined this gym as there are also tennis lessons. Although I've only managed to book them only a few times. The few spots they have get booked on the app as soon as it appears. Now I am stranded with a one year membership with this gym and it's a nightmare!

What a disgraceful and unethical company. My son joined this organization at the end of August 2023, and despite his dedication and outstanding performance, he was let go after just two months. During his short tenure, he excelled and even received several personal reviews from new clients. However, it's clear that this decision was discriminatory, as my son, who is black, seems to be a victim of an 'old boys club' mentality. This is particularly disheartening because my wife has been a loyal member of this club for over 20 years, and we always considered it a family-friendly place. But it has become evident that the working environment is hostile for people of colour. Unless you're in a service or maintenance role, there seems to be no room for upward mobility for black individuals within the club, largely due to the toxic atmosphere fostered by some members of the organization. I urge other customers to consider whether they want to support a club that tolerates such discrimination and unfair treatment of its employees. Your hard-earned money is better spent elsewhere!

I’ve been a member here just over a year. I still attend simply because you cannot find a family friendly gym alternative where you can gym, eat, swim, tennis, ect... if I could find one I wouldn’t attend here anymore. The club is run by kids who really lack the kind of service level you expect from a premium health club charging me £167 a month (not including food and drinks) for myself and my 3 year old son. Although my son is 3 they still insist he must have a membership costing £35 a month. The only open play activity for kids is an ancient indoor climbing frame and old pc computers with dated games. I’ve spoken to the children that run the venue down here, normally on duty, and any complaints fall on deaf ears. The food was really good at one time but now is pretty bad. For kids they offer fish fingers, chips and burger meals. If I could recommend an alternative club I would, but unfortunately their overall services available on one site is unique. Otherwise this would be a one star based more on the staff. The overall venue is ok and clean.

Pros: * Very friendly staff * Good community vibe * Well equipped gym, has been getting very busy given the surge in membership this summer * Changing rooms relatively clean * Free 3 x 30min induction for gym users, this provides a structured programme for those looking to get back in to a workout routine * Good classes, pilates in particular. Frequent with a choice of times * The apps are useful for booking classes etc though a single combined app would be helpful Cons: * Showers could be cleaner, particularly given the cost of membership. Issues flagged in the review by Richard Wraith are familiar, including a shower nob missing and mould in corners. There are cleaners walking around and, generally speaking, doing their jobs. However, some of the persistent issues such as mould in ceiling corners of wet areas and the need for a deep clean of changing rooms requires one off specialist treatment that requires leadership from the manager. I'm sure they're capable so I expect these issues to be resolved soon!

I've been a member here for many years. It must be one of the best gyms in the South East. Just wish it wasn't so expensive BUT if you're a gym person, or enjoy tennis, swimming, spa days and a chance to socialise and get fit then this is the place for you. If on the other hand you only go once a week, or sometimes not even that, don't waste your money and find a public gym like the Beckenham Spa. The car park has been packed for weeks now since the New Year as DL takes on more customers to presumably make more money. I cycle by the way so I'm not firectly affected. Are existing members benefiting too? Well popular classes are hard to book up, tennis courts are often empty but with none available to book on the App. I now pay over £150 a month. Is it still good value, for me yes as I use it so much but it is a chunk of money. It is crowded AND so many individuals in the restaurant/bar/seating area on their lap tops for hours I'm told. Working? Just taking up space? Ok, rant over.

  • Anna

I read the comments on this thread and didn’t join for two years, and I am so gutted, having joined since September I can say it was one of the best decisions. Yes it is expensive but I do think it was worth it, the classes are great, so much variety and lovely teachers. The pools and spa area are good, (water temperature is temperamental sometimes) but still lovely to use. The children’s area is great, with swimming sessions available through out the week, soft play area which is amazing and the daily children’s club was brilliant. Evy and Cerese are fantastic, they created a brilliant atmosphere which allowed my very shy and clingy children to feel safe enough to be left with no fuss from them. Every time I came to collect them they had had a fun time and were so happy. The staff were always so friendly and smiley and so helpful (actually had common sense). The food is the only sad part due to in healthiness and quality available at a gym isn’t great.

  • James Cherry

I am very disappointed with this club. We joined knowing we would be away for two months and we’re told we could suspend our membership by paying a fee which we accepted since we joined they have changed their terms and conditions and have a waiting list so are denying us the opportunity to do this. The waiting list is not advertised on their website or anywhere so impossible to verify. This is costing us over £500 when we not use the club at all. They customer service we have received has been rude, slow and inconsiderate and at times inaccurate. This is on top of the club having renovations limiting its use with no rebate for members. We will leave as soon as we can as this club does not look after its members. UPDATE: despite the message below, I have sent 5 emails without DLC responding. They have contacted daily for me to reinstate my direct debit but that team are not able to deal with my issue and complaint.

Wow ! and WOW! The magnificent photos really doesn’t do the actual premises justice. I visited the Beckenham branch yesterday and was greeted by the gorgeous and beautiful Samantha at reception and thenn the equally gorgeous and beautiful Corinne who escorted me and gave me the most amazing tour of the entire club and all of its second to none facilities! I actually thought I was on an exclusive spa retreat and on holiday in the most exotic parts of the world! I didn’t want to leave ! The atmosphere and aura was just simply breathtaking, so much so that I’m signing up for absolutely everything! Corinne made me feel so welcomed, exuding such positivity, radiance, vibrance and charisma. Indeed an exceptional asset to your team I’m sure. The facilities are extremely impressive and my only regret is not doing this much sooner! Cannot wait to start my epic and most memorable journey ever!

  • Heather Campbell

I've been a member for 3 or 4 years but had not been making good use of my membership while working full time. Having recently ( semi) retired I decided to give it one last go and am now fully appreciating the benefits of the huge range of classes available for all abilities, as well as some personal training sessions. Yes, you do have to book ahead for the classes that you want but there's a reason that they're popular! I've found all the staff very friendly and welcoming- including the cafe and reception staff. The recent refurbishment of the gym has meant that there is always something there that I can do where before I found the layout somewhat intimidating. One aspect I would like to congratulate David Lloyd on is the age range of the personal trainers and class instructors - from fit young bods to inspirational older and experienced staff.

  • Amber Murphy

I have been at David Lloyd beckenham for a month now and I am really enjoying it, the facilities are great and there is lots of equipment in the gym I am also enjoying the classes, the spa is also outstanding, the car park is huge so I never have a problem finding a space. The staff are lovely and friendly and extremely helpful, the bad things: the drains are sometimes smelly in the spa showers and the women’s showers which is quite unpleasant, there is a massive 4g tower next to the spa garden it is disguised as a tree, the gym gets very busy in the evenings and I often have to wait to use equipment. Each member gets 1 guest pass a month which is a bit tight considering the amount I am paying, would be much better to have two a month. Overall it is a great club but the drains really should get sorted soon the smell is gross.

  • Caroline Gavigan

DO NOT JOIN David Lloyd in Beckenham it’s a terrible club and got thefts from lockers happening but they claim they have no CCTV and are not liable for any belongings - had clothes, shoes ,wallet ,phone ,watch all stolen but they are not interested another man had his watch stolen the week before - people are watching members as they go in and breaking into lockers and David LLoyd aren’t interested The member this happened to only last week is membership number is 16418130 But this also impacted the family because house and vehicle keys were stolen BUT despite paying £169 per month David LLoyd aren’t interested and everyone we have spoken to says this is an inside job !!! I bet if criminal damage was caused within the club the CCTV would exist then We are spreading the facts about this club it’s disgusting

  • Dino Bergonzi

I’ve been a member on and off for 9 years and have left several times because of the way they treat customers with absolute disdain. In the end I’ve gone back because the Spa facilities are good compared to most. The recent reward for customers is to be told that they no longer have access to the spa unless they pay £165 per month, apparently it’s in their interest to pay loads more for something they already had before at a much lower price. This is the how loyal they are to their customers I would seriously suggest you think several times before joining as the whole company couldn’t care less about you as a customer, they just want your money and frankly now offer very little for it. Don’t be lured in by the Spa as it is often broken and obviously it’s in the contract that you can’t complain.

  • Gbemi Kasanga

Poor communication and fraudulent sales team. Firstly my membership was incorrectly made to start on 30 September even though I made it crystal clear I wanted it to start on 1 October. I assume this was to meet sales targets and as a result 1 day membership cost was incorrectly taken out of my account. Secondly I was set up on the higher membership (diamond) even though I made it crystal clear I would only be using the Beckenham gym so wanted the Platinum membership. As a result David Lloyd have been taking the higher membership fee from my bank account since 1 October and even though I have asked for my membership to be changed, requested a refund and complained to management nothing has been done. I am extremely disappointed with the customer service at this club!

  • Big Neens Brown

My local David Lloyd has been closed for renovation work, so I’ve been told to use Beckenham David Lloyd for the spa instead. When I arrived, the spa was closed off and I was told I can’t use it even though I pay £120 a month to use the facilities and was advised to go to Beckenham by the Kidbrooke branch. When I objected to this, I was quickly surrounded and made to feel like I was in the wrong. I quickly got changed and couldn’t shower because the shower wasn’t working. I also couldn’t dry my swimwear because the dryer was not working either so I packed my wet stuff and left. while walking out I could see the staff staring at me which made me and my partner uneasy. I’ll no longer be using David Lloyd and I wouldn't recommend it to my worst enemy.

  • Robert Lewis

My experience of the gym was extremely poor for two reasons: 1) The equipment I was interested in was very old and badly maintained. The main barbell exercises are what I went there for and the bar left brown stains on my hands / clothing which I can only assume is rust. To be clear, this is the only equipment I used so can't speak for the pools, sauna, other equipment and areas. 2) It was a difficult process cancelling my membership after the above experience. I was advised when signing up that there was a trial period (also included in the contract) but the accounts processing team disputed this and it took a couple of months to resolve with several phone calls and emails. I had to cancel my direct debit to avoid additional funds being taken.

  • Oliver González

I am having a bad experience with the office from the club… I move to another house and wanted to cancel my membership and stop payment from January forward. As I was told from beginning that I can cancel membership if I move away from my house. I been emailing the last month Beckenham@davidlloys email and nobody reply for it.. I have send my prove of new house Now I just recieve and email from a dept collection company askinge for £550 … this is causing me stress. I call the gym few days ago and they just ask me to again email the company what I did again and nobody reply.. can you please let me know why nobody is replying my emails? Can anyone sort this out? Really horrible experience. Thanks, this is now been sorted.

Great gym, has the essential equipment. Decent spa area with the indoor and outdoor pool. However, the place is very dirty, disgustingly dirty in some places which is unacceptable for a £169 membership. You can easily see a lot of dirt under the seats, the door handle is rotten, showers aren’t cleaned either. 90% of the staff are teenagers or just under 20, the place is constantly under repairs as everything is constantly getting broken. This club has 8000 members, just this single branch, you’re making millions per month and having this conditions is just ridiculous. Whoever the owner is, they should consider maintaining thus place a bit better considering the amount of money they’re asking for it.

  • James Mewis

Given this rating based on the facilities, but my overriding impression of the gym is completely tainted by the appalling sales staff, who didn't seem to have the basic level of courtesy when I was a prospective member. It was like something from an episode of the Office, when after having been given a desultory introduction to the facilities, I was then rung two days later by the same person who showed me round and couldn't remember that we'd met. I've ended up joining, as my wife was already a member, but if anywhere else were to open with similar spa facilities, I'll be joining as soon as I can cancel my membership.

  • phil morgenegg

Guys!! reading the multiple bad reviews before joining your gym just put me off even visiting the place! Instead of a template reply such as "thank you for sharing your experience...we'll pass it on to management ect..." tell us you have done something about it and are been proactive. So many reviews on cleaning issues, cost and poor service, address these problems and show us you're doing something about it. Have a designated time for visit so members don't get bothered, change cleaning company, send your staff to clients relation courses!! come on DL if you gonna charge that much be at the top of your game.

  • Alys Adams

Poor service. Had a tour booked was unable to attend tried to call to rebook no answer went there at 1pm was told no one could see me. If you visit a Virgin gym there is always someone to help they rebooked for the next day. I went back following day. The tour was not as informative as expected. I couldn’t believe that with it being a family gym they don’t have a family membership. We sat in the cafeteria with the member of staff for about 15min wasn’t offered a drink even tho they state drinks are on them the day you come to visit. They member of staff just did t seem interested whether we joined or not!

  • Jen

I recently left the club after being a member for about four years. I left because the communication was so difficult to manage, I found that if they didn’t want to talk to you about certain things they would lie and say staff members weren’t around when they were. The fact they could tell you to use the app to get a call back was a lazy excuse for them to have no interaction or decent customer service. The cafe was always so busy and the food was poor and over priced. The outside pool was so busy in the summer I would keep my distance! The classes were brilliant however, I will miss those.

  • Sean Preston

David Lloyds offers great facilities when taken as a whole there aren't many gyms that can match the variety and quality. The cost of membership does offer value to those who will use everything this gym offers however most people will easily find other gyms at half the price that will completely cover their fitness needs. If you only go here twice a week you are effectively paying £15+ per visit which isn't far off having a personal trainer for an hour. I believe a simple solution would be to offer gym only memberships at a discounted price.

  • Krug

Be careful when talk with people by phone and always ask receipts because they still your money in this place. Adam Salter is very rude, unprofessional as well call the client by (My friend ) adam salter unkind person he make the situation worst instead to do one investigation, my family went 1 year in this club but never more I expect after pay ever month 257£ have better attention and care but Adam Salter not have words doesn’t customer only run from the problem. Be careful when you deal with them always ask prove paper they are dodge.

  • Anneka Gonzalez

Absolutely not worth the money my husband pays for our membership. I reported a concern about rope hanging down a week ago. They havent fixed it but tied it up into what is a massive strangling hazard for young children. Soft play also filthy as per photo. Staff mostly disinterested. Cafe staff completely ignore you when you go to order, i had to walk away as lady just kept her back to me despite me asking if she was serving. Shower gel containers always empty as are many of the hand gel stations. what does our £200 fee go on exactly?!

  • Emma Parnell

I’ve just joined and it’s been a pretty poor experience so far. Class instructors have been rude and haven’t taken the time for new people, showers and spa pool were cold the day I brought a guest and they double booked my tennis court. Considering the monthly membership fee I haven’t been impressed. I complained within my two week grace period for cancellation and I still haven’t had a reply despite raising the complaint twice through 2 different channels. It’s not worth getting locked in for a year. That’s what I am now stuck with.

After reading reviews on here I'm surprised that the same issues are being raised and the same souless scripted generic response from the management team is seen again and again. The cleanliness is appalling and I can't understand how the gym does not have proper working air con?? The gym is always well over full capacity so hard to get on any machine and half of the time people are filming so having to navigate around trying to not get in someone else's video. Why do you not have a no filming policy like most other gyms out there ?

  • Rolly

Refreshed, up to date equipment, (e-gym). Classes for all abilities ranging from aqua aerobics, barre fitness (ballet), dance,(fitness)/pilates to high energy 45min classes, racquet sports available for the new & serious contender. Fabulous tranquil spa facilities whilst unwinding away from organised children activities. A little hit & miss on customer service, pricey limited food menu, popular extensive car parking filled to the brim. Start up social events now organised too. Something for everyone throughout 6am-10pm.

  • Neru

I agree the club and spa(when working) are great classes/teachers are wonderful but something is always broken as most reviews have highlighted. Far too often parts of the spa is closed for maintenance as it is again right now… for a month! Let’s hope this will be sufficient time for them to fix things!! Feedback doesn’t really land either… the usual stock replies ’thank you for taking the time to leave us a review. We are sorry to hear’ etc Please get things sorted out quickly and keep on top of maintenance!

  • Charlotte S

Love this gym and come regularly however last visit I had a (very clearly) crispy wasp or bee in my food. The waiter insisted it would have flown in whilst I was eating (this was inside, late evening, and I had been staring at my food the whole time eating it!). They did remake it but I didn’t exactly feel they were particularly sympathetic. Won’t be eating here again Update: I emailed them as requested in their answer and I’ve not had a response. Seems like it’s just a cover for the Google review response

I just want to say that I know the cleaners work hard and are lovely, and this shouldn’t be their responsibility; However, every time I have used the showers, I have found black worms in the showers, on the floor & walls of the showers - it’s just not on. There’s always gunk and hair in the corners - there needs to be a deep industrial clean, because the facilities are filthy. And the black worms are outrageous. For the high price of the membership, this is not acceptable nor hygienic or safe.

  • Bobby Bernard

I went with a friend on pass and was looking to join up. I really liked the atmosphere but the club was really dirty. Cleaners were cleaning the floor and were present but the cardio equipment had lots of dirt and could clearly see that it hadn’t been cleaned for a few days. Liked the relaxation area and the pool was warm, so the spa facilities where good. Showers were a bit dirty too and didn’t work properly. All in all a okay experience but I wouldn’t be joining at this stage due to this!

  • Asha Parmar

David Lloyd Beckenham has to be one of the best clubs I’ve been to! I’ve been a member of large competitor gyms yet they always seem to have some issue, this gym doesn’t in my opinion! Classes are brilliant, equipment is plenty and you never have to wait for a machine. The spa is beautiful and although busy at times, still very enjoyable. The pool is fantastic and I wouldn’t say overly busy and I often come both during the day and evening. Really impressed and worth the money!

  • Katie Mcarthur

Don't do normally go on a weekend but nice to get a space in the car park! Egym was good. Boditrax has somehow not kept my data unfortunately. Swimming nice but prefer it warmer like in the week and with no kids! Floor in ladies changing room filthy so had to tiptoe through the visible dirt, clumps of hair etc. My coffee order was forgotten again..... so another 10 minute wait for one small latte. Not happy. Definitely not worth the money I have to pay. Need to up their game.

  • Koorosh Nejad

After just a few month into my family membership I got into separation and I moved out of Bromley, so asked DL for early termination of my membership. The admin has been very reluctant and with lack of empathy insisting that I should pay the full membership until the termination date. I’m so disappointed to the management of David Lloyds Beckenham for their lack of basic humanity and lack of appreciation of the situation that a member could go through. Just very sad.

  • Natalia Lesz

This could be an absolutely amazing facility as it’s spacious and the spa area is lovely, but unfortunately there is a huge lack of investment which means broken equipment, paint peeling off walls, and the cleanliness and hygiene (particularly in the gym itself) is utterly unacceptable. Dust all over the machines, floors covered in dirt and hair etc. I’ve reported it several times in the past 18 months (including to head office) but sadly very little has changed.

  • Polya P

I signed up for a trial membership due to working from home and wanting to go somewhere local and due to not being able to attend my amazing gym in the city which is top quality . Here are few things to be aware if you go there : The equipment is old , the barbells are rusty, the swimming pool is dirty . Some members have some serious attitude and although it’s an ok gym to use , for the money for a full membership I would say you are getting ripped off.

  • South Londons Finest

This has been my gym for a decade its bloody expensive but I Can honestly say its with it if you go and you use the facilities. it even has outside pool and sauna area since they upscaled. can't lie I thought the food was horrible compared to the menu and food they had before. its the worst steak and eggs ive ever eaten in my life however I don't go there for the food so....... The classes are amazing find one you like and watch yourself drop into shape

  • Famous J

I made a complaint a few months ago about incorrect information which was given to me on signing up. They have refused to come back to me even after chasing on multiple times, they continue to confirm that someone will get back to me in regard to this and I have been pushed to the top of the list. Another month has pasted and It has been dismissed yet again. I pay for a platinum membership and this is definitely not the service I signed up for.

  • MJ S

NHS discount still ~ £100 a month and the place isn't even clean. Staff are extremely pushy to get you to sign up after a tour too, presumably they get commission but if you're taking such a large chunk off my already miniscule paycheck, you could at least keep it clean. Really dated, dingy spa. The classes look decent but for this price, the gym should be sparkling clean and impressive - not barely better than the public one in West wickham.

  • Lily

0 STARS!!!!!!!!! Thieves operating in the changing rooms which the staff are fully aware of yet do nothing to prevent or help victims, multiple members are having their belongings stolen out of locked lockers. David Lloyd told us to complete a claims form and email an email address, which still 10 days later has no reply. The staff are arrogant & have no customer service skills whatsoever. Just don't waste your money it really isn't worth it

  • Ann

This place requires a lot of improvements. Cleaning standard is very poor, ladies showers filthy and mouldy, the gym itself has some good equipment however some of them do not fully work and again, needs regular cleaning. Spa definitely lacking TLC, when bubbles stop in jacuzzi you can see all the dirt collecting on the floor. For over 200£ payed for membership this is not what you expect going there. Disappointment...

  • Maha Iftikhar

Worst place ever, staff is racist and have no sense to speak with a vulnerble person. A PERSON with disability been treated so poorly and upon asking for water the shift manager refused to provide water instead got another staf member to argue with me while i was having severe chest pain. They wasn't concerned about me in miserable condition instead they said they are going to suspend membership.

  • Ron Arbuckle

This branch has a good gym with sleds, punch bags, lots of machines and free weights. Spa area for platinum members is very good aswell. 2 saunas, 1 steam room, ice bath, ice cold showers (and hot too), bubble and jet pool with lots of different sections. Bit tatty in places, table I sat at for food was a bit broken and cigarette burned. Few tiles missing here and there. Very Good overall

  • Alex

The worst service. They have taken double the money from us and not returned. They have an app error meaning that 7 weeks in we still cannot book into classes for us or kids or personal training sessions and no one can help you. Returns to emails are unbelievably slow. I’ve never had an experience so bad that I’ve been paying so highly for. Really shocking, not what I expected at all.

  • Luke West

Prices are rising, but standards are slipping. The gym floor has a heavy toxic masculine energy, with a few aggressive people treating it like a home gym. People also seem annoyed with each other, asking 'Are you new here?' like they own the gym itself. The reason for the two stars is for the staff, who are always friendly despite having to deal with all types coming into the club.

  • Gregory Bol.

Disgusting customer services for new members. Have been speaking to very rude and very unhelpful last, who at the end offered membership for around £600 per person, £1,200 for a couple for 90 days duration. However one star is for the service, as this was most unattractive point For us, is clearly no, maybe for other members this is acceptable way of them being treated like that

  • Jeff Jeffery

I wish there was more than one cycling machine with a screen. the voucher scheme for paying for things like personal training sessions is odd because you must use the voucher within a week or you lose it with no refund which seems very unfair. However, it is a lovely place. It's clean, it's well run, the staff are very friendly, and the food is good, so I like it there.

  • Alex Shapoval

I have rejoined the Beckenham club recently. So far the experience is not as great vs 3-4 years ago. Too many members. Cleaning is not great (example: some bugs in male shower area), SPA area and change rooms are not clean. Sauna is not hot enough. Male showers require maintenance. At the same time membership fee gone up materially. Management should take actions.

  • Peter Valcek

I just has a introduction tour. One the first look i was thing it is quite small. But it is massive facility. They have numerous equipments. You will not need wait untill someone finish his exercise as they really have spares equipments. Also the Spa are is so lovely. And looks great to me. After the tour just sing in and i can't wait for my first visit.

  • Matt Mertz

Very poor experience with the sales team in trying to join. The fees at this gym are incredibly high, no negotiation whatsoever, and strong feeling of being treated as number overall. Advice to this company would be giving a little goes a long ways, but the truth is I don't believe this business really cares! My family of 5 and I will look elsewhere, thank you!

  • Pammy Parris

I booked a tour to see the facilities today. Kameron was my guide. He was extremely helpful and patient in answering my questions on how I can get the best use of the facilities that met my needs. We also discussed some of the negative reviews on Google. Kameron was reassuring which is why I joined. The five stars are for Kameron's excellent customer service.

  • BEVERLY OSEMWENKHAE

Horrible horrible experience. My friend invited me as a guest and the manager was turning people away. He said they notified members and she showed her phone and there was no email or notification. He still refused entry. She also had a guest earlier that was allowed in. Horrible customer service, manager and front desk staff. Don't recommed.

  • Karin Gerwat

Love the refurb but its the staff and the people who make this a great place to go. People all shapes and sizes go and everyone chats to each other no matter what shape or size. Fantastic gym staff who are always smiling and helping the members out. Yes more pricey than other local gyms but you get what you pay for, and you get a lot here!!!!

  • Cherelle Chambers

If I could give 0 stars I would. The customer service is disgusting. I have been trying to cancel my membership for months now due to the price increase (without notice) and I am being ignored after numerous emails from myself and my partner. I really wish I hadn’t joined David Loyd as the company only cares about money, not the people here.

  • EuropeanTransport TV

It's a nice gym, however, the last few times I went, the swimming pool was closed for some reason or another, which was a big shame as me and a mate really wanted to use it. Furthermore, it does seem dirty in places and seems like it could be cleaned better. The facilities are great, and all, I just wish they were a bit better taken care of.

  • Kelly O'Connor

David Lloyd in Beckenham is doing a great job of keeping us all inspired and motivated, despite the various lockdowns. Love how they’ve made us feel welcome and safe on site, with robust cleaning regimes and clear signage. It’s been amazing to get back to the gym and into the pool, and I can’t wait for their exciting summer social calendar!

  • Waheeda Rahman

Beckenham is a family area so you get a lot of kids and parents there especially on weekends so I’d advise going during the weekday which actually isn’t too bad during 5-6pm. Gym is big with plenty of equipment but as it’s located above the swimming pool which is not enclosed, the gym gets very hot and humid which makes cardio hard.

  • Kate shelley

I went to DL on guest pass with a friend and had such a great time. It's a lovely club with great equipment and services available. I've visited a couple times and always feel so relaxed there, just unfortunate I can't afford a membership of my own, but I look forward to be invited again and know I will have a wonderful time.

  • Terry Poole

Can’t fault this place. Lovely spa area inside and out. Good size swimming pool inside and out. Great bar and food service inside and out. Staff are helpful and friendly always greeted with a smile. Numerous classes and the gym is brilliant and new equipment always being updated. Great place for families and to keep fit

  • deb garbutt

It was a very enjoyable experience, great for a family too, I could have spent a whole day there enjoying & trying all their activities. The staff were BRILLIANT, Very Warm & Welcoming - keeping it Clean. Just the Outdoor Pool could do with a Clean, too many leaves & debris in there. But other than that, Spot on.

  • Kathy French

i have been a member since it opened and just love it. i go to about six class’s a week and if i cannot book a class, i just do a session in the gym. The wait at reception if you phone is my only complaint. The staff do their best. Love some of the instructors, Sophia, Sandra, Nannie etc. kathy French

  • Anjum Raza Records

Nice place to join good fun for family huge range of options available to improve your health and happiness great value of money but most of time it’s overcrowded and you cannot find your choice of machines to workout especially free weights area needs to expand where more people enjoy their training

  • Ciprian Mi

Cost of living crisis? What cost of living crisis? This place is jam packed usually. It has great facilities, great and good value restaurant/pub. The spa area is really good. A great place for Porche drivers who want to show off by taking two parking bays with one car. But those are rare exceptions.

  • Luke Mcloughlin

So visited this club as a change and I forgot my slippers the day before my holiday Got back and the club have stolen my slippers after somebody told me they had them in hand This is an untrustworthy business that steals people’s money and goods Absolutely should be ashamed of themselves

  • Holly McConnell

The staff are always so friendly and helpful! I could write a 5* review about every single member of staff from the crèche and kids club, they’re simply fantastic with the children! Amazing place to leave the children for a few hours to get some much needed gym/spa time!

  • Ella Vize

Trying to cancel membership after no help with previously raised feedback and lack of improvement in experience. You have to do this through the app and no one ever responds to you and now my next month’s membership has now been taken. Awfully run place. Avoid.

  • Nick Rivers

We love this place, food is always great + staff friendly but for the last few weeks the gents (as you go in on the left) have been stinking and it’s about time the kids outdoor playground was updated. At least add a slide. Thanks and keep up the good work.

  • AJC

Changing room need updating and regular cleaning, no basins provided! No place to conveniently shave after showering, rest of the gym facilities are good but for the amount membership costs and compared to other high end gyms, I’m left wanting.

  • jermaine johnson

Had a very bad experience whilst on tour due to one of the managers (Justin). Very aggressive, loud and argumentative. So much so that his colleague told Justin to stop and leave while he handled the situation. Unprofessional customer service

  • Anna Whitehead

Every time I use the female changing room there is a cleaner often blocking the cubicles and sitting chatting on her phone or eating. My monthly fee for this club is £219 which doesn't really match! I'd love someone to contact me about this

  • Laurence James

My first impression was that this place is enormous, and offers a huge amount of class options as well as good workout machines, as well as plenty of relaxation areas. A lot of mums here, as well as retired, but some "young and single" who

  • Samantha O'Neill

Expensive private sports and leisure club. Says it's family friendly and while they put in kids activities, and have a kids area with soft play and a kids menu which are all good, in reality there is very little kids parking, the swimming

  • GEo SIrbu

Great gym, nice facilities BUT i found very disturbing the new process for Guest Pass. From thr simple fill in and signature on a tablet, now they ask you to download their app, give all the private details including your phone number,

  • j w

Have you seen the prices for this gym, just shy of £200 if you want the diamond membership. All that just to be surrounded by thousands of chavy kids from the area when you are trying to relax by the pool. The world has truly gone mad.

  • Amber Hart - Moir

Attended as a guest. The sanitation of this place was alarming- only saw 2 bottles of sanitizer- tables not being wiped down- the pool area was a shambles. Over crowded- you would never know we where in a pandemic. Staff looked out of

  • Jade Reynolds

Some rude people but the best gym I've ever joined. Our whole family has a membership and our son loves playing football there. Perfect place to socialise and make friends as well as relax and work out. The staff are excellent too.

  • Jamie Dunmore

Kameron was so helpful, when I came in to set up my David Lloyd membership. He talked me through the process and helped me to set up my account and book in my first personal training session! Couldn’t fault my experience!

  • isobel hudson

Very impressed with the service we got from Alfie when enquiring about a membership for myself and my daughter. He was very helpful and respectful of our situation and sorted out a great membership for us....thanks Alfie

  • Danielle Lautier

Had my Hair coloured cut and bouncy blow dried by Megan. Absolutely Amazing! So happy with the service and end result. Everyone in the Salon was so friendly and warm, I felt at home and pampered. Definitely going back!

  • Yvonne Ai

Visited with a friends pass. Loads of space, a few machines were not working. I didn't get the chance to use the sauna and so forth. In the process of considering a membership but the joining fee doesn't make sense.

  • Cristian Sirbu

Very unprofessional, zero customer service, I been waiting 1 month for my refund of 550£ . 1 month can you believe? They only know to collect money. Is a nice gym, but now I joined sidcup, excellent staff there !

  • Fran Lawson

Great spacious gym, however changing room, showers and the floor area where the spa areas are is absolutely filthy. Considering COVID19 and the prices for membership I expected a higher cleaning standard!!

  • Alexander Zawiesinski

Good experience. Nice place. Lovely staff. I went during a quiet time so even better. Utter peace and quiet. I would absolutely love an ice cave at this site. If it's possible then please do it …

  • Natalie Smith

Edited my comment as I’m very happy with the respect & outcome from management. I live in Stanhope opposite & they quickly resolved their ongoing alarm issue which woke up my family at night! Thanks!

  • amal abdalla

Kameron was very helpful and gave a very insightful tour around the club. Afterwards, I was helped through the sign up process! Thanks to him and answering all the long questions I had! Great club!!

  • Darryl polento

Excellent facilities, classes and staff but the place has developed some real issues with antisocial behaviour the last few 12 months which pretty much ruin the point in going there to relax.

  • Jadean Aria

This is the best Gym in the world, there is so much offer! Love the spa, Alfie set me up and was very knowledgeable, answered all my question before going ahead. Thanks David Lloyd. …

  • Bob Davies

Spa has too many negative features. Jacuzzi pool has been closed for over 2 weeks. One sauna temperature only 70 degrees. One shower out of use. Paint above rehab pool peeling from ceiling.

  • Chantelle

Really nice gym although often crowded. It has a lovely outdoor and indoor pool. The outdoor pool is fab and I have never struggled to get a lounger or a seat anywhere in there in fact.

  • f olivia

I signed up to David Lloyd and was told I could use facilities at other clubs, so imagine my surprise when I get to DL Beckenham and I’m not even allowed to use basic spa facilities.

  • Bora Gencer

Everything looks good other than food in cafe, managers should go out and eat more may be they can have a idea how should cook their meals doesn't match membership cost neither food

  • Peter Jaworski

First time coming here, had an excellent tour by Kameron, very experienced, knowledgeable and friendly. Explained everything perfectly and answered all of my questions correctly

  • Bill Whitehouse

I was incorrectly sold a membership and was told there is nothing customer service can do and to email the club. I contacted and emailed the club multiple times and was ignored.

  • Smithybeast

Got shown around by Kameron who was a really great guide, he answered all my questions and made me feel at ease. Really excited to start my membership. Many thanks Kameron!
