I recently watched The Super Mario Bros. Movie at Events Cinema in George Street, and the whole experience was dreadful and a complete waste of my time and money. I rarely go to the movies but took a day off to watch The Super Mario Bros. Movie expecting to have a great cinema experience but the cinema itself was very dirty with dirty stained seating and popcorn on seats and on the floor. The cinema wasn't cleaned after the previous session and my pants were soiled with soda when I sat down! This was very uncomfortable and humiliating for me and I had to sit through the whole movie with a wet bottom. One of the biggest issues I had was the cinema itself. It was in cinema 9 which is the oldest cinema and the viewing experience was terrible. The screen was far too small and didn't go wide screen as it was supposed too! Also the video quality and sound was terrible! I couldn't enjoy this awesome movie because of the cinema and viewing experience! I spoke with management afterwards and wasn't offered a refund or resolution. I contacted customer support and they just gave me fake excuses for their incompetence and no refund or free movie ticket was offered not even an apology! I feel violated of my time and money and I'm very disappointed because I don't have much free time to begin with. This high quality film and any other movie in fact, shouldn't be viewed in such a bad cinema that should be taken down. What a disgrace.

We've been here two times during our 3 weeks in Sydney. Buying the tickets, choosing time... all easily done on the touch-screen-kiosk. Buying popcorn and coke (and all you don't want to eat) in a small self-service area without having to wait. Great experience. If you want to have something more substantial, there is a Sushi-shop, a small Thai-Grill, Bubbletea shop, Hungry Jacks, ... in the front area. First film was great, with new seats, clean polster, well maintained anywhere in the upper area. Great sound, gigantic screen... would be a 5 - Star experience. But: Second time we've been in Cinema 10 on the ground level... well...in other cinemas this would not be operated anymore! It was dirty, small, musky smell, the sound from the next cinema came over to our room... not so great when you watch a horror-movie (Insidious - the red door) and suddenly somebody starts shooting and you ask yourself why... Oh! It's next door... Finally: The MOST DIRTY and smelly restrooms I've seen in my life! I held my breath and touched nothing I did not have to...next time better go at the station... or under a bridge... its cleaner. All in all I'll give 3 Stars and hope they get better or just close the old scrap down if they can't afford to renovate.

The gold class was a nice and decent experience. Comfortable seat and high quality sound. HOWEVER, I was shocked by the attitude of the staff. After getting into the gold class area, no receptionist was standing at the entry where the supposedly check-in kiosk is, and only 2 were standing at the bar so I hesitated to ask since they were serving some customer. We went around for a while looking for other staffs but no luck. Seeing 2 other customers come after us walk straight to the screen room, we also walked up after them to check. That was when a lady call us back and use her sarcastic tone to ask why we wouldn't check in at the front. I said sorry and explained that we were looking for our correct room. She criticised us nonstop when leading us to the check-in even though i apologised a few times. It literally ruined my first 15 minutes of the movie. This happened on 1/8/2023 at 4:08pm. Hopefully the manager would check on the staff quality. Worked in hospitality as well but this is not how you treat your customer. At least at hoyts broadway the staffs are always nice to me.

The cleaners are definitely underpaid or should be fired. The regular cinemas are just absolutely atrocious. It is absolutely filthy and disgusting . There are leftover popcorn, plastic packets and food all over the seats which have an awful red cover that are so uncomfortable. And on one of our seats, there was literally a dried out ice cream and we even had to call over the manager to clean it up. There are stains on the ground and seat covers and there was a literal bag left over behind the seats. Covers are also ripped. The toilets are also below decent. There was no soap Everywhere literally felt dirty and was so uncomfortable as a result that it made the overall experience poor. The Vmax and 4D is a saving grace but not an excuse for the utter disgusting state of the other cinemas. Water is also overpriced, $5.80 for a bottle of water is a joke. Overall, extremely disappointing and would never recommend. 1 Star.

The online experience (when it works it was offline for all members trying to login) has improved significantly. Gold class at George Street, after previous years of poor experiences it was time to give them another go. The arrival and drinks ahead of the movie were good. The cinema was clean and greeting was friendly. The app allows your kitchen order to appear at a specific time. In reality the kitchen got the drinks right at the first sitting. Then desserts from the third sitting were delivered ahead of pizza and sliders. There isn't enough room for all that so we sent the dessert bowls back as we were not ready for them. The dessert was attempted to be delivered again ahead of pizza. Pizza and sliders arrived filling all available space. Desserts never arrived again! Movie constantly interrupted! Not worth the almost $200

This is a review for the 4DX screen within the Events George Street cinema complex which is unique to Sydney. Firstly, the seats are in banks of 4 and all the seats in the cinema moves together so feel free to spread out if there's room, you get quicker/stronger seat gyrations with less weight on them. Secondly, due to the layout of the theatre with seats sloping down to the screen floor and the huge fans are on the ceiling, the higher seats at the back has the strongest wind force because they are higher up closer to the fans. Thirdly, it is advisable to wear a cap or hat if you don't want your hair to be soaked by the water sprays during the movie. Think of it as a 2 hour fun park ride and well worth the extra few dollars over a normal movie ticket.

  • BellesMom

This is hit and miss. Their Vmax cinemas are brilliant, very comfortable recliners and the kind of movie quality you expect of a vmax cinema however the experience you expect the most from here is their boutique experience and it was a let down to say the least! The two boutique cinemas are right beside each other and because the staff are bringing food and drinks in regularly they don’t always close the doors and sound travels! While watching killers of the flower moon I was treated too almost an entire Taylor swift concert on full volume at the same time. I don’t mind Taylor any other time but it definitely ruined that whole experience, definitely wouldn’t waste all that money on the boutique experience again and wouldn’t recommend it to a friend.

Event Cinemas is not worth the price these days. An adult ticket at event cinemas is $21.50 at Reading Cinemas it's $15.50, but with Event Cinemas you pay for poorly cleaned cinemas and to sit in the equivalent of a battery chicken cage for hours. Snacks are overpriced as it is at every cinema, but the ticket is something you have to buy and it's just way too overpriced for the service being provided. They could at least spend the extra money they're extorting to hire some staff. Place is barely staffed every single time I go, you may as well not buy a ticket. Go somewhere else, don't support this greedy corporation.

We typically book Vmax or Gold Class, but this time we decided not to. Nevertheless, it's important for them to maintain all their facilities. A few of their theaters, particularly the standard ones, appear somewhat neglected. Our recent visit to the George St cinema, which we hadn't done in a while, served as a reminder of its lack of maintenance. Despite its city location, where there's an abundance of dining options, you can conveniently find a sushi train and a milk tea shop right next to the cinema. I'm rating it a 3 stars because the staff has consistently been friendly.

  • Isabella Jajjo

This is a review for specifically the Standard cinema. It's very outdated. The chairs barely have any space in them, shockingly the actual screen kept GLITCHING throughout the whole film, so you're seeing pixels flashing before your eyes every few seconds... The sound system is very low quality, you cannot hear dialogue properly, might need to start implementing captions because of it. It's very, very dirty. I believe they need to invest more money on more workers and just an overall better Standard cinema.... It's really unacceptable, especially for a central city cinema...

  • Joe Miller

They seem to have a talk as loud as you can policy at this cinema. Every time I have been it has been filled with people who can't keep quiet and have spoken louder than the actual film. Strangely these people never seem to get in any sort of trouble despite talking so loud that we may as well have bought a ticket to their one person show where they say every thought that comes into their head for a 2 hours. Its a nice cinema but can never go back as they seem to have rewards scheme for people whose mouths can go like a bell clapping out of a goose’s arse.

  • Mark Leary

We went to Gold Class (not an often occurance), and all in all, it was very comfortable. We ordered food online when we bought tickets. They ask when woud you like it served and gave them the time of approximately 90 minutes into the film. However, everything arrived in the first 10 minutes. I indicated to the staff member what we had requested, and he went away, then someone different brought it back straight away. Why ask patrons the question if you're not going to follow the response? I was there to see the movie which I enjoyed. Pity about the service.

  • Jenny

Bought tickets online to see a movie in 4DX. The venue is well located (very close to Town Hall station, and various bus stops). The staff that I encountered were friendly and hospitable. The movie cinema itself wasn’t the cleanest, but what do you expect for a movie cinema The movie we watched was very appropriate for the 4DX setting. I think it can be quite hit and miss though, depending on personal preference. Overall, it was decently enjoyable and not over the top. There were really some times where you felt like you were on a roller coaster of sorts…

  • John

Our film was shown in cinema #9 and it is in need of a major upgrade and was filthy. Old uncomfortable chairs, some with tears, others with holes in the cushions. They must clean the cinemas only at the end of the day and not thoroughly at all. There was popcorn everywhere and wet stick grime in the cup holders from the build up of dust and moisture condensating from the cups. Mens toilets near cinema #12 had 3 stalls, 2 were completely blocked with paper so you couldn't flush, and all three were filthy. Stay well away from these cinemas!!

A little bit of dissapointment, been here to see Expend4bles and It was an ok experience. Good Points: 4DX is good in quality, The movie is pretty enjoyable too see. Bad Points: As soon as the film starts the cinema manager didn’t even bother to swish off the lights until my father reported that. There were some Teens behind us reacting to all sorts of disturbing moments by making noisy, intense noises and even BANGiNG THE SEATS!!!!!!!! This cinema could be a tiny bit better, I give it 3/5 stars. Event Parramatta is so many times better.

  • Jarrod Ryan ZA

I recently had the pleasure of visiting Events Cinema's Boutique Library cinema and let me tell you mate, it was top-notch! The 1st class seating and waiting areas were comfortable and well-equipped, and the ability to order food and drinks while seated really added to the experience. Plus, the limited capacity of the cinema made for a more intimate and enjoyable viewing atmosphere. All in all, I'd highly recommend giving Events Cinema's Boutique Library cinema a visit if you're looking for a top-quality cinema experience.

I just wanna give a huge thank you to the guy with curly hair worked this evening around 5:20. He was standing there and doing Nothing. When I took my 5 yr old and asked him if the kid can use the toilet, he asked me if I I have a ticket tonight to see a movie or it is customer only. And he asked us to leave and walk through a huge crowd to use the toilet in the next building. My child has never wee on his pants since three yr ago and thank you for the fxxxing first time. Good job for no sympathy at all.

  • JR

Oppenheimer on 4/8/24. For a cinema in the heart of the city, this was so disappointing. There was no surround sound? The sound was all coming from the front of the cinema and was very mumbled. Also, there is minimal elevation in the seats so if you have a tall person in front of you, their head will block the screen. Lastly, an economy airplane seat is more comfortable than what they have. Old, run down, no back support and don’t have leather reclining seats like all the other good cinemas do.

  • Alexandra ardnaxelA

It was cool how easy it was to serve yourself your own drink and get your popcorn straight from the window. It is not like that at my cinemas in Melbourne so it was an awesome experience however the seats were pretty grubby and positioned in a way where a tall person could block your view if they sit in front of you and people were talking loud/using their mobiles throughout the movie like it was normal which was strange to me and kinda sucked since we all paid money to watch a movie.

  • Hayden

While I’m sure based on the way in that some of the screens here are abysmal I had a great experience as I knew from others what to go for. Vmax screen 2 Recliner seats were comfortable. Sound good. Picture perfect. Looking back though, I actually had zero interaction with staff. Bought tickets at the self service, nobody checked my tickets on the way in Gold screen looked good with a bar, might try that next time. Wouldn’t hesitate to come here again.

  • CB4798

No coke no sugar, was just water coming out, ice creams were soggy, someone split their drink all over the floor and was left sticky puddles, staff were abrupt and there was overflowing rubbish bins at every corner. the toilets were atrocious, no toilet paper and little surprises left in the toilets from previous people. can understand it was busy but the staff were not helpful and rude when asked a question or didn’t know the answer :)

  • Lis

Event cinema is an outdated experience. The cinema fit out is old with sagging seats and dirty. I’m sitting in the cinema while writing this review and there are about four people in the place - oh I wonder why! You can’t bring alcohol in with you unless you’re happy to pay $50 per ticket in their gold class which is an absolute ripoff. There are much better cinemas in Sydney so do yourself a favour and spend your money elsewhere

  • Lasaration

Back in the day there used to be Village cinemas where the quirky and sublime movies would play, Next door would be Greater Union where they would play chick-flicks to romcoms then next to that would be Hoyts which featured everything in between. One by one they went. Starting with Village then Greater Union then Hoyts became Event Cinemas. From time to time there will be celebrities on show with movie premieres on site.

  • Anony Mous

Fantastic experience in general. While I understand paying for a cinema in the middle of the city isn't the cheapest ordeal, I expected a cleaner set of seats and more legroom. The seats were also a bit uncomfortable. I must say, not worth my money. The actual movie experience was average, maybe the experience you'd get if you spent some money on a good theatre system at home, but everything else straight up sucked.

  • Alex Hughes

Great experience and fun theatre to see a movie. Food platter was OK however it had lots of crackers and no cheese ‍♀️ It was annoying right near the end where they brought us someone else's food, then drinks (obviously for the other boutique theatre and we'd already eaten) AND two randoms came in asking everybody what movie we were watching right at a crucial part of the movie. Very distracting.

  • Paul Waterstreet

Must say what a disappointment this venue was..and having not been there since its reno, was exhausted with frustration. Couldn't read tickets properly, couldn't see seat numbers as no lightning, very bad service, but then told to leave our seats yes we were in the wrong ones..but the attitude?.Sorry I won't ever go there. Too expensive..food below average, and venue is poorly designed.

  • Michael Azad

Luxury class is definitely worth considering. There are a limited number of seats and the seats are far a part enough. There's also leg rests and reclining with the seats. However, it can be frustrating during the early parts of the movie when the staff begin delivering food as it can cause a distraction, breaking the immersion of the movie. This is only a small nitpicking though

  • Ian Woodruff

OK CINEMA BUT COULD DO WITH A FRESHEN-UP This is a cinema complex in the Sydney CBD. Multiple screens and a gold class option. It's getting a bit dated and the toilets are not the freshest :( but you can easily book online and choose your seating. Its quite close to lots of food outlets so you can easily eat before or after your movie without having to fill up on popcorn :)

  • Zara Hall

The Gold Class experience is touted as a premium customer experience to watch the latest movies, but this is so far from the truth. The seats are torn, the recliners don’t work, there is no air-con, and you can hear the movie next door. What a missed opportunity and over priced experience. We would have been better off watching this from home. So disappointing.

  • Io Jupiter

Went here for Gold Class recently. Staff at the Gold Class was very friendly and helpful. Food is OK too, in particular their arancini balls. However the seats and tables in Gold Class need a good clean. I had to wipe down my table and chairs because it looked like it was stained and table was sticky. On top of that chairs had a funny smell.

  • Tony Walsh

Attended for SXSW film premiere. A terrific film screening sabotaged by the fact that cinema 4 has a horrendous echo for all seats behind the halfway mark. Totally ruins the audio, made dialogue impossible to understand half the time. If you're looking to screen your film here or hold an event, do not let the management give you cinema 4.

  • Tastescapes Australia

The cinema wasn't too clean but the staff was nice. Smaller than most other event cinemas but not as good as others. The seats are horribly uncomfortable and the food is low quality. If you go private or get the boutique then do it as its amazing! I would recommend but make some educated decisions about what event you want to go to.

  • Hao Wu

Cenima 4 is disgusting. Dirty and outdated seat seats. You can hear the water running in the plumbing pipes, so distracting when movie is trying to build tension via silence scenes. Forgot how disgusting this cinema was/is when last time I watched a movie here, and will pin a note on my fridge to never visit here.

  • thesydneytram

Event George St is situated in a convenient and ideal position. There are many options to choose from, including Gold Glass & Vmax. On occasions, you can watch international films here too. The only downside is cleanliness. The carpet smells musty, the toilets are not clean (and lack of handwashing liquid).

  • Statler Willand

I really enjoy going to the cinema and these days it’s not an inexpensive afternoon out like it used to be all those years ago. With the tickets being so pricey you’d expect everything to be kept in decent order. The theatre really could do with a clean. Really disappointed with the overall cleanliness.

  • Niko Kumberger

It was an okay experience, the movie was good, but the price was a bit high, even for city centre. The only complaint was the audio, it's really quiet compared to other cinemas, badly equalised or something, because it sounded pretty flat. Just sounds like an average home living room audio system.

  • Hermione Le

Great place to see movie but sometimes too busy and toilets should be cleaned more frequently. Update: we enjoyed the Gold Class very much. Great options of beverages and food, served straight to your seat. High quality of drinks. Very clean and great recliner chair as well to enjoy the movie.

  • K C

Pretty disappointed. Booked gold class to see a certain movie and immediately it had triggering events in it which wernt disclosed in the trailer. After 15 minutes we left, I in tears. There was no offer of a refund for the $100’s of food we had ordered. Won’t be back. Poor customer service.

  • Gaurav Tewary

What a hidden gem! Saw Guardians of the Galaxy in the Library/ Boutique setting A separate adults only lounge and bar with airport business class lounge vibes. Fully serviced bar and food can be ordered inside the cinema. In fact it might be a better dining option than eating outside.

  • Tink “Tink Astor” Kastner

Seats are old, lumpy and uncomfortable. My original seal was wet to I have to get the staff to change my seat. They didn’t even blink an eye - it must happen all the time. Considering the size of the cinema, more staff to assist customers would be advisable.

  • Roger T

Too much commercials! I understand the business wants to make money from advertising. How come there's so much now? So annoying were forced to watch, didn't used to be 20 minutes worth before the movie trailers. And commercials in-between trailers? GREED

  • Rahul Chawla

Weird seats. While comfortable but they are so big and close to each other in front and back, that it feels claustrophobic and not at all a comfortable viewing experience. Above review based on Screen number 3. Avoid if your movie is screening on No. 3.

  • Kitty

This place has changed a lot since we went last but I found the candy bar to be plentiful and was impressed with the cinema size. I just wish that the seats were not so upright. Easy to use the machines to buy tickets and use the old cinebuzz card.

  • CheezySinz (CheezzySinz)

Crazy Cinema. Located in the city, you’d expect nothing but noise leading into the cinema, but even then, they do a great job in immersing the audience into the film. Was able to watch Mission Impossible Dead Reckoning in 4DX. Will be back.

  • Grant & Barb Van den Kirk

Can you please for the love of god lessen the ad time. 30minutes of advertising before the movie starts is insane. If you're advertising a movie at 8:45 it should start at 8:45. Please. Also cleaning the seats between shows would be nice.

  • Daffodil Ktm

Went to see Banshees of Inisherin, a slow Irish movie about friendship. Though sometimes difficult to understand the Irish accent, all in all not bad. Hall was great but the washrooms were a mess, a disaster, management must see to it.

  • Sharon Xu

Gold class cinema toilets were extremely dirty and looks like it hadn't been cleaned in a week with wet toilet paper all over the floor. While we went late at night, still expect at least decent amenities for a "premium" experience.

  • B B

The service from staff is average but this cinema is very outdated and overpriced. I’ll be looking forward to the new ones that will be built here in the coming years along with the brand new high-rise and shops below.

  • MAHANTESHAKUMAR KITTALI

I watched Top gun Maveric Once watch movie. The theater was occupied by 80% viewers. Have all eminities with sign board any one can easily access the required things It's a good place to enjoy a movie

  • rachael jenner

Staff were nice but the popcorn gave my partner and myself food poisoning. Only food we shared was the popcorn. Please make sure you keep those things clean, proper food handling should be top priority.

  • Alex Chigurh

Visited to Sydney film festival and cinema hall number 5 is a medium, spacious and really good soundings. Watched authentic Aussie director’s “Run rabbit run” psychological thriller. Great experience!

  • April Hudson

Love the self-serve kiosks where you can order your own tickets! The popcorn was aweful, but they had a bit selection of other items in the store. Cinema was generally clean and we enjoyed the movie.

  • Sebastian Soto

You'd think on a hot humid day that a cinema would leave the air con on instead of turning it off half way through a 3 and a half hour film. Especially in gold class where you're paying for comfort!

  • Simon Bond

We went to Gold Class. Seats were clean and comfy. After asking if the popcorn would be fresh, it arrived cold and stale. Both of our Choctop cones were soggy and the toilets were pretty filthy.

  • Josie Nacorda

Gold class is not to be missed. Fully recline seats...spacious.....provides privacy....pre ordered food and drinks are delivered to your seats....come early to enjoy the lounge with free drinks.

  • Glen Connor

Quite confusing about where to go, even when we asked. No clear instructions about where to get 3D glasses. 25 minutes of ads and trailers is a lot. The movie experience itself was good.

  • SeaweedCat

Out of the ~8 stalls in the women's bathroom, 4 of them were clogged or unusable in some way. Also it's been quite a few years, you'd think they'd learn to get bigger bins by now …

  • naomi and emma

Women’s toilets smelt disgusting. No seating in the foyer area. Dirty carpets. Hardly any staff around to seek assistance from. Exorbitant prices. No “class” here let alone gold class.

  • Neo Kung

Good place to movie. Staff are all friendly. The screen of VMAX was not as big as I imagine. Cool experience for tourist to watch a movie in Sydney. Seats were big and comfortable.

  • g1 cheyne

A bit run down but seats screen and sound all great with exception of just some of the smaller cinemas which are not yet refurbished. Go the Vmax with reclining seat option!

  • Mark Powell

Spectacular experience with good friends. Limited choices of wine and beer. The seating is comfortable anb the staff are friendly and helpful. I would highly recommend.

  • Jedidiah Sam

Amazing experience, however I could hear sound from the next door cinema. The picture quality was amazing though I think the lighting could have been better.

  • Kerrie-Anne Benton

We had a great night out in Gold Service watching top gun. Great chairs, and food also good. Sound was amazing. Had the place to ourselves.

  • Max K

Screen and sound were fine but seats were old and uncomfortable. Filthy room and seats, popcorns crumbs everywhere. Clean between sessions!

  • Paula Hajek

Facilities ok . Food over the top expensive and total lack of service Glad i am from Adelaide and that this isnt my go to place for movies

  • Jenna Featon

Fantastic experience with EVT Headquarters - they were prompt to provide a solution to an issue I raised. 5 star customer service!

  • Peter Cobden

Too noisy. Sat everyone in middle row in the same row. However offered free coffee and cake. $21 pensioner. $31 adult.

  • Jacob “Doogie” Thomas

Service was average, food quality in gold class was beyond awful. Even their popcorn was stale, at lunch time!

  • Jason Biles

Great place for Gold Class - staff are friendly and overall a great movie experience

  • Ritesh Mistry

Good cinema, 4d experience was very different but fun
