A few months ago, we, as a young family of two, have just started looking for our first home in the Netherlands. I had spent some time reading other people's stories around their mortgage journey and got a generic idea of what the processes would look like, and the more I learned, the more I leaned towards hiring someone who would guide us through the whole process (including getting in touch with third-parties like appraisal, technical inspection, etc). The inputs were: we more or less knew what we wanted and expected to start with viewings right away. That's where Rick came to help us. In two days, we had our first viewing. The day after, we reviewed what we saw (got everything from basic property info till appraisal estimates), submitted our bid and waited for the results. Although we did not win the deal itself, we won in better understading which part of the Hague we want to live in (closer to the shore than we initially thought) and how the appraisal estimates work. The next flat was skipped as Rick recognized the seller's name who was known for breaking construction codes and following lawsuits from municipality. We were hesitant about going after the third option, because it was a bit outside of our imaginary budget limit while many sellers in the NL expect buyers to offer even more than the asking price. Though, Rick suggested to give at a go. In ~1.5 weeks, we already had a signed purchase contract, and he not only managed to lower the asking price by 7.5K, but we also got some extra house items on top of that. Rick quickly organized an appraisal and a technical inspection, got us in touch with a notary's office. He was also present to review information at all stages and attended all the meetings. In total, it took us 3.5 weeks from the first viewing till the signed contract, and we didn't really have to worry about anything throughout the whole process. We'd definitely describe Rick as a great real estate agent and also as a lovely person :) By the way, we got our keys this week :)

Extremely disappointing experience. Fortunately, I realized their unsuitability before starting work with them. My intention was to engage their services for rental assistance. On their website, they only offer a "free call" option through Calendly, where one selects an available time slot. I followed this process, adjusted my schedule accordingly, and yet no one joined the call or offered any apologies. They then rescheduled the call without consulting me (at the time of the planned call, not before), opting for a time convenient for them, not me. There was still no direct communication or apology. Okay… I reorganized my plans once more, only to have them reschedule the call a second time, right before the scheduled time, again without informing me. These incidents highlight their inadequate service and lack of regard for others' time. I wasted two days in an endeavor to become their client, only to be met with this level of unprofessionalism.

As expats in the Netherlands, the task of finding and securing our dream apartment seemed daunting, especially given the language barrier and the complexity of the local housing market. However, our experience with Rick has been nothing short of exceptional. after i took a job in amsterdam (from the US) i was very overwhelmed with all the paperwork and boxes to check... thankfully EHN and my agent, Paolo, were so incredibly helpful it was almost TOO easy. Paolo not only found me an apartment in 4 days time, but he went with me to the INS and my bank to get me set up with all my paperwork and new bank account. i can honestly say without his help, the move would have been too stressful for me to handle, but it was the opposite. i would recommend everyone use this service if making the move as an expat.
