Tldr: I've purchased several Filson products. Product quality is variable and they did not honor the Guarantee when it clearly should have been honored. Do not blindly assume this is a quality brand or that if there is an issue they'll resolve it. Why pay these high prices if not for quality product and good customer service? I'm sure most customers won't have this experience (or at least it will take a while) but this is a real risk when buying from Filson. If I ever make future purchases it will only be after careful analysis, and I expect the new reality of the product and experience will slowly eat away at their brand reputation. As consumers it's our responsibility to make thoughtful purchases and I will try to opt for brands like Patagonia with a stronger commitment to repairs and keeping products alive. Details of my experience with a boot purchase... Filson's quality and product guarantees are what attract me to it even if I must pay high prices. However, my work boot purchase called their quality and guarantee into question. Within a mere 20 uses the loops in the back of the boots, which are important for putting them on, became unstitched. Their Guarantee states that "We guarantee the lifetime of each item made by Filson against failure or damage in its intended usage." After these quality issues the real nightmare began when I attempted to rectify this simple issue. Despite the repair being an obvious and straightforward task, Filson flat out refused to do it. They offered me a gift certificate which was completely inadequate because (1) it was insanely wasteful - this was basically a brand new pair of boots they were ready to scrap and (2) I liked this design and wouldn't have been able to get something similar. They also shockingly declined to cover the costs to bring it to a cobbler, forcing me to shoulder the expense for their defective product. If they don't have the in-house capability to do basic repairs the least they can do is cover the cost of repairs through trusted third parties up to a reasonable amount. (I ended up taking it to a cobbler who was easily able to make the repairs). Another issue I experienced (minor, but speaks to their operational challenges): after I brought the boots to this store for repair (and was told it would be repairable), they shipped them back to me instead of to repairs. I then had to ship them to repairs again to start the whole process. The refusal to stand by their guarantee and their dismissive attitude towards rectifying their own blunder speaks volumes about their lack of commitment to their customers. A once-respected brand now reeks of poor craftsmanship and abysmal customer service.

I am a long time Filson fan but today was my first visit to a retail store (the flagship store in Seattle). I read a lot of the google and yelp reviews prior to my visit and was disappointed to read so many people apparently very unimpressed with their customer service. Personally I had a great experience. I was helped by several different staff members and all were pleasant and helpful. It's not the type of place where you are hounded by commission hungry sales people which in my opinion is nice but if you need something you'll have to ask directly and you're not necessarily going to get the same type of attention you'd get at a Macy's or Nordstrom. The building is beautiful inside and out, like a museum. The change rooms are stunning and massive however they could use a little more light, and someone dedicated to working the change rooms when it's as busy as it was on a Saturday. The products are very expensive, there is no doubt about that. You're not just paying for a product that will last a very long time if taken care of but you're also paying for the Filson name. Many of their shirts and some items are NOT made in the USA so if that is a concern for you then pay attention to the tag. But it seems that all of the luggage, wool items, and jackets, pants, etc are made right there in Seattle. I am from Canada and did ask about tax exceptions which they were not willing to do but they were willing to sign up my wife for the emails and use her 10% off coupon which is actually slightly better than no tax. All in all I had a great experience.

The tagline, "Unfailing goods" is spot on. I've often thought, "If I could only own clothing from one brand, this would be it". Expect the highest quality out there, bar none. Prices reflect years of dependable use. Styling is timeless, classic, yet modern with the times of here-and-now mixed with tradition. Goods are designed in the most thoughtful and functional ways, and everything is Made in the USA (as far as I know). Just so there's no sticker shock, a basic solid colored pocket t-shirt retails for $60 in store (and I buy them). One of their highest value items, IMO (and something they should focus on in their advertising more- since it's a common item that everyone needs), are their belts. Belts aren't as exciting as the latest Smokey Bear campaign that usually drops in Fall, or the Kyler Martz drop that happened yesterday, but Filson Belts are made to last and hold up to daily buckling abuse. They are also happy to add and extra hole for you here and there, whether you're sizing up or down. Best belt I've even owned. Every single guy should own one. One of my favored purchases has to be an oil waxed jacket that was based off the Levi's jean jacket cut/pattern. Absolutely amazing, unfailing goods. If you are ever visiting Seattle, make sure to put the Filson Flagship store on your list of places to see. I wish I had some photos to share on this one, but I was too busy touching all their fabrics and scouring every square inch of the store. Next time I will be less selfish with my time.

Been purchasing from Filson for a number of years. I am slowly replacing my non Filson clothing with more and more Filson items. Would love to be dressed inside out and top down in Filson wear some day. While; some of Filson's items are being made abroad and less materiel is used (more form fitting) and lesser quality materiel is used (not as sturdy); Filson still offers some of the best outfitter merchandise on the market considering the 3 F's: Form, Fit, and Fair-priced. To paraphrase The Filson maxim, (You've tried the rest) 'Might as well have the best'. One could argue Filson is the primogen of American Outfitting. The Customer Service is thorough and Filson staff take their time and are polite in store and by phone (reach a real bonafide breathing person). And shipping is timely and Filson emails tracking; if one is not into text notification- as is the case by me. Am attaching several photos; not to be a bore, of a few of my Filson goods, I am fortunate to own-- including my Pup's items which he enjoys as well. [And awesome catalogs as well].

This company scammed me so bad that you won’t even believe it!!!!! I own a ton of Filson shirts (size L) and got a new vest for Christmas also in a size L that I was super excited about. Well the best in insanely huge on me so I needed a Medium. Guess what, “Filson doesn’t do exchanges.” Okay that’s fine, I’ll return and order the same thing. Filson took over a month to process my return and during that time. Went up on the price of the vest I already had at Christmas time. Now that I remembe I have the gift certificate because it took so long to process the return and now it’s almost summer. I’m trying to order the same item, they are asking me to pay $54.00 more for the exact same item. FYI, this has nothing to do with shipping or taxes. It’s just an upcharge because they raised the price while they processed my return, tell me how that is fair! All I want is what I already had in hand on 12/25… Absolutely ridiculous way to treat people.

Best quality, best service and best overall Northwest staple. If you know, you know. If you don't, you should go! You'll be awed by the Seattle Flagship store and the wonderful people that work there. I have been a long time self proclaimed "Filson Addict" since 2008 and I can't stay away. Their quality and service speak for themselves. Their wool is my favorite, especially the Mackinaw wool! I highly suggest the timeless Mackinaw Cruiser, Double Mackinaw Cruiser, Wool Cape Coat and Lined Wool Cape Coat. My timeless padded computer bag is transitioning well with use and I always get compliments on all my Filson items. Those that gripe about this & that need not shop at Filson as understanding business and the ever-changing world is tough for some to understand and accept. I get it, USA USA, but I'm also realistic. I'll always be loyal! QUALITY! SERVICE! It's for us!

This review is for Amber-Lace Case. I came in December to return some items I didn’t end up needing or gifting. Although I thought the refund was issued, it never came up on my credit card statement, but instead another charge for the same amount. I called Filson Seattle and explained the ordeal and detective Amber was on the case. Within hours she investigated the issue and indeed confirmed that the clerk who was helping me accidentally charged me for the return and thereby issued me the return credit for both transactions. Amber was professional and thorough throughout the process and I hadn’t received such sincerity from customer service in quite some time. I greatly appreciated Amber’s effort to which I believe she deserves recognition for her work and reassured my trust in Filson’s customer satisfaction. Thank you Amber.

Filson is no longer what it use to be. Their lifetime warranty is not lifetime. One of jackets started to wear on the underarms 6 months after purchase. They repaired it due to a defect in design. Jacket has now done the same thing after another 6 months of wear. Sent it back in and now they are telling me it's end of life and it's because the material is old. What a load. I have bought tons of products from Filson, but I think this is the end of that. Customer service has kids answering the phone that can not connect you to a manager and want to email you back later. I was told a manager would call me back in 2 to 4 days.... Are you kidding? What a shame, this use to be a fantastic company.

Filson is such an amazing place for its unique brand of clothing ,have been a fan and an owner of some filson products for sometime now , and what is there not to say about filson that's great . And everyone that works here is very nice and very helpful. I broke a hat buckle that my wife had given me for an anniversary gift . And took it here to get it fixed or replaced , and was able to not only do so . But got to keep that hat that broke , cause of sentiment value , which Is my main reason I shop here and don't mind spending top dollar for top quality items is there life time warranty ,it pays for it self .

What is happening to Filson? At a time when companies are trying to bring more manufacturing back to the US, Filson is abandoning Seattle and it’s heritage. I’ve always been willing to spend more at Filson because they made high quality items in Seattle. So sad to see they let all those workers go and now many items once made in Seattle (pretty much all tin cloth items) are made over seas. Filson is still maintaining a premium price for import goods. Please bring back the Seattle workers and goods!

  • Chris Saffel

Place is awesome! (American made) Filson products are generally awesome too. My issue: I bought the “limited edition” Roughout Leather jacket when it came out, and paid a premium because of it’s very limited run, which they marketed heavily. Now they’re offering the identical product, about a year and a half later. Bottom line: don’t believe that any of their “limited editions” are really going to stay “limited”. Still a great product, but sullied by disingenuous marketing. What a shame!

Quality is great. Help is good, as expected given the price point. I've been buying Filson for 25 years and while the quality has maintained, the manufacturing of some (many) garments is offshore now, but you pay USA-made prices. If you stick to the Mackinaw wool and waxed cotton luggage, you're still getting a Seattle-made (close to it) product at a good Seattle-made (Kent really) price. Other stuff you're probably overpaying but quality like this is hard to come by at any price.

This is the most beautiful store I have ever had the privilege of entering. The associates were very helpful, friendly, and down to earth. I was in awe as I wandered the area. The decor and ambiance was like something out of a childhood fantasy of cabin life in the woods and catching dinner at the lake. Could I live in this store please? The quality of every garment couldn’t be better. Comfy, sturdy, timeless, classy pieces were begging me to take them home. Can’t wait to return.

Filson is a gem. I work in the construction industry and burn through clothing. A few years ago I invested in filson for my workwear. As far as their original filson products are concerned - It holds up 2.5 times as long. Even better, when it wears out, their repair team is AMAZING. They add patches to holes, and do some sweet stitching over spots that are starting to give out. No clothing is indestructible, but these folks keep their clothing going and out of the landfill.

The legend lives on at Filson every day. Epic gear for everything you do outdoors. Thank you, Scott, for giving me the tour and some history, but having the opportunity to browse and touch the merch was an amazing treat I'd been looking forward to for some time. Ultimately, it was amazing and overwhelming, but wonderful. The question is, which items would I love to wear for the rest of my life? That's the decision, since everything here is meant to last. I love it!

All products I’ve purchased from Filson have been high quality! My negative review is regarding my online order for their infamous wool blend packer coat. I ordered it on the 20th, today is the 26th. I haven’t received postal tracking. I wrote their customer service on the 23rd and have yet to get a response. I’m questioning the hearty roots of this company and am beginning to wonder if they care about the “support local” customer.

Product maybe great, but post sale customer service is “Horrible”. Took over a week for them to ship one product that was in stock. Reached out to CS and Sue S responded that it had been shipped and delivered, 10 days before I ordered it. Then cam back and said that the warehouse was shipping a fast as they can. I asked Sue S to escalate this issue to her CS Manager and she never did. Going to sell it and go with a KUHL bag.

  • Carlos Rivera

Horrible post sale customer service. I paid for a Christmas gift and paid for expedited delivery. Over a week later they have lost the package and have no idea where it is and have no answers via email. No one answers the phone, regardless of how long you stay on hold. They took payment for a product and have not delivered the product or offered a refund.

  • David Vogel

Incredible store. The showroom is very nice. Stuffed animals, tons of wood, great and knowledgeable staff. Bought one of their waxed jackets, which should last me a lifetime. Something to hand down to my grandkids... It is that durable, as long as I don't run across a bear, which would good the lifetime warranty! …

  • Trypp Adams

What I imagine shopping for clothes and goods was like in the 1950's-60's with quality to match. Some of the designs seem a little stagnant, but perhaps that's equally enduring. If you are looking for a heavy wool item like grandpa had, this is your place. Just don't let grandpa see the price tag. Quality comes at a price.

  • Kenneth Lee

I AM ONLY BUYING FILSON FROM NOW ON. I just got done with getting my bag repaired with Filson and I must say their customer service was the best ever- fast, responsive, and kind. I wish more companies were like this. Filson bags are great but its people are exceptional. After this experience, I'm a customer for life!

  • Danny Sink

Historical company. This business is somewhat of a museum while also selling products. Rugged made clothing at a high quality that doesn't necessarily feel good to the wallet , but you know by material and sheer weight that it's quality that you are purchasing. I recommend it. Excellent, in my opinion!

  • Chris Burden

And another one bites the dust. Used to be great, made in America quality product. Now it's outsourced to China and India which explains the weird stench on fabrics, poor quality stitching, and fabric pilling when it never used to. Will never buy again. Off to find real American made quality wear.

  • Iowa Wandering

Good visit. I thought the store would have more history than it did. I wish they had more tours of their facility daily. T-shirts are expensive for being basically a Gildan tee with a Filson tag. Service was very helpful and professional. I had it on my list to visit.

  • Polish Bigfoot

If you want to feel like a million bucks, while spending a million bucks, Filson is the brand for you! It's pricey no doubt, but the warranty makes it worth it for a lot of their products. I love their backs, Alaskan guide shirts, and their graphic tees!

  • Edward Brown

Stumbled upon the store on my way to Pikes Market in Seattle.I purchased / replaced a old Filson hat from my cherished older fishing and hikn days in East TN . The quality of clothing in this store is rugged and durable as my old hat .

  • Jeromie Hunter

Absolutely a great place to shop. Very good quality and durable clothing. Yes the prices are expensive but you are buying some thing that will last a life time. The customer service is great and the atmosphere is wonderful.

  • Mary Cunningham

I love the brand and look forward to the women's line. Returning- we all know it's overpriced- well priced when it was made in Seattle but now it's made in Bangladesh. Seems like those prices could be dialed back a little.

  • Mitch Dumke

An amazing experience. From seeing the production downstairs, the detailed decor and layout and the friendly staff it was a real treat. They have Tall shirts (pictured) and are the best fit yet for a slim 6'6" man!

  • Jeremy Frank

Don't purchase here if you may need to return. After I returned my items and called customer service for months, they finally emailed me a (short) gift card, rather than the refund promised in the store.

  • Bill Fishburn

I love this place. They provide clothing and gear made in the US (Seattle) using union labor. The clothing is high-quality and some of it would make great heirloom pieces.

  • Ignacio A

After 30+ years of being a loyal customer, I have bought my last Filson product. Products are good to great, but post sales service at the flagship store was dismal.

  • Devin _NYC

Love Filson- the best clothes, and they stand behind all their stuff. High quality and always draws interest. This is one of my favorite stores in Seattle.

High quality outdoor clothing. The store itself is worth checking out for its museum quality decor. There's even a beef jerky vending machine!

  • G C

We were greeted by the friendly staff. The flagship store has an amazing space and filled with premium quality products made with pride.

  • Jenn Burnam

Don't let the price tags deter you. This is truly "you get what you pay for" product. Plus the absolute friendliest and helpful staff.
