I really don’t like leaving negative reviews…. This is my third and last visit. I live down the street from this place and met a friend there this morning. It was his first visit. It’s a cute shop with some of the worst service ever. At every visit, the staff are rude and absolutely uninterested. I don’t get it. I’m always polite and even tip. And what’s with the zero AC policy? It was at least 80 degrees in there and beyond uncomfortable. The outside seating has random street people sitting there and it’s dirty. My friend purchased two pastries and didn’t eat them. I went in and to grab a bag was met with hostility after I asked for a non plastic bag. Who tosses open pastries in a plastic bag? I was given one small paper bag after endearing the wrath of the lady with the short hair and tattoos. Excited to have a local coffee shop in the area but McDonald’s & Starbucks have considerably better service than this place.

Phenomenal coffee shop, one of my favorites in the city. Huge variety of teas and coffee that I'm still exploring. My current favorite is the pistachio mint which has the most enticing visual appeal with the light hazel colored coffee layered on top of the aquamarine mint that create a refreshing and uniquely delicious taste when mixed together, served both hot and cold. Very unique decor that shows someone has an eye for antiques and cups, in addition to a green thumb with a profusion of plants decorating the front window and countertops. Lots of table space for setting up a lap top to work or hang out. The owners have made it a great place to socialize and often through neighborhood events that are a wonderful opportunity to meet others who live and work nearby. Erin and Gigi are engaging and one of the central hubs of the Uptown community.

Great (and unique) coffee, working space, and convenient location (right by the Red Line train). Here's the inside scoop: Pros 1) Coffee - tried the Vietnamese latte and was a treat (spoiler: condensed milk inside the drink) 2) Space - lots of tables to get some work done, gather with a group of friends, etc. (lighting is very creative, especially with incondescent light bulbs) 3) WiFi - password-protected, decent WiFi (with a pretty funny name running at about 41.5 Mbps, so not too shabby) Cons 1) 2 hour Limit - although I don't know of any other coffeeshop that explicitly says this, it's something to take note of if you're planning on staying here for a hot minute 2) $5 latte - although worth the price for the specific beverage I got, this is a bit pricy compared to the offerings of other coffeeshops—just something to consider Overall, a hidden gem worth checking out in the NE Side of Chicago!

This is a popular, mid-sized cafe in Argyle that is quite packed with people and pretty loud. It’s not that ideal for studying, but a nice and ambient spot to chill and chat with friends. My friends and I stopped by on a weekend afternoon and waited in line for a bit before ordering. The staff got our order slightly wrong (wrong drink size), but otherwise the drinks were good! We got the Pistachio Mint Latte and Ube Latte, and both were excellent. Beautiful presentation and they weren’t overly sweet, but still tasted like a nice sweet treat. Their menu—filled with eclectic lattes, teas, and Vietnamese coffees—is quite expansive, and everything looked really good… excited to come back to try more options! It’s pricey, but compared to other cafes that make similarly creative drinks, the prices are pretty fair.

This place is so special. It's the only coffee shop on / near Argyle and fortunately it's one of my favorites in the whole city. The interior is really calming. It's all dark and painted black with twinkly lights. There are plants EVERYWHERE which makes me super happy too. The owners are very sweet and clearly passionate about the business. They host parties every now and then at night to celebrate the cafe and the community. Most importantly, their coffee is amazing. I've never seen flavors like these anywhere else in town. There are always new specials but I end up getting the Ube Latte half the time because it's gorgeous and delicious. I wish they were open earlier / later but that can be said about any coffee shop right now.

Went in to use their self print service, but had been following them on Instagram for some time and was excited to be there. I love their decor. Got an apricot cooler for my boyfriend he was not a fan of the matcha but that's no fault of the drink or the barista. I got a lavender coco drink which was really good although the two jalapeno slices in the glass made the end of the drink super super hot. But that's okay also because it was kind of a surprise and we got a kick out of it. Would definitely go back they have a lot of drink choices that are unique and their Instagram features really pretty looking drinks. Descriptions of what are in the drinks would be helpful.

Cute little setup but I was disappointed for my first visit. I got a hot pistachio mint latte and grilled cheese sandwich. The latte had the perfect sweetness and was warm and foamy but the pistachio flavor was not that great and had an unpleasant artificial aftertaste. Maybe it tastes better when cold, as it's so popular. Also, it was served in a to-go cup instead of a regular cup which takes away from the cafe experience! But the worst thing was the grilled cheese. The bread was stale and the cheese was low quality. I couldn't even finish half of it and had to throw the rest. Also, the woman taking the order could be nicer and seemed disinterested.

Had a really enjoyable time at this quirky little cafe. It doesn't look like much from the outside, but once inside, there are tea cups hanging from the ceiling, old cameras on the walls, and a sewing table that two people can sit at. They have some board games to play, and a wide variety of interesting and different drinks to try. I had the Golden Milk this trip, loved it, will be back for more, and can't wait to try their other drinks. Service was friendly and quick, & the vibe was fun and relaxing. The drinks are quite reasonably priced. Definitely get your drinks to drink there, as opposed to getting them to go, so that you can drink from a fun cup, and hang out fer awhile. :-)

Not sure what’s the hype. Although the interior was nice, I felt like burden to the cashier and she favored more of her regulars. The matcha latte with vanilla was okay, but you gotta take it easy with match powder (I could still taste the powder). Update : tried the pumpkin spice latte and I taste more of cinnamon than actual pumpkin spice. Also the lady with short was super rude and rush my sister and I. Like I get we are not your regulars, but we are customers. You gotta work on customer service there. Will not be returning.

Came here for the first time with some friends. Tried a latte and didn’t like it, I ordered the Uber Vietnamese instead of the regular Uber latte.. I told them nicely that I didn’t like it they said (in a really rude way) they could make me a new one but they would charge me again. Really sad. I’m a small business owner too and they could’ve done better to accommodate a new customer. The coffee I got was also very cheap tasting. I then proceeded to order a donut and tipped anyway because I believe in paying people for their work. And the baristas looked and acted miserable. Fixing a latte shouldn’t be that hard. Do better.

First sip cafe, oh what a treat! Let me get into it! The food / drink that I ordered, hot chocolate was one of the best ones I had. Compared to Starbucks the hot chocolate was amazing. The service was great the person at the counter really was pleasant and welcoming. The atmosphere or ambiance was great! I like the lights and the plants near the front window! FSC is really unique and I personally have not see any place like it. Overall, I will say give FSC a try they are great!

Super cute, very roomy, and absolutely delicious cafe in Uptown. With a massive main room featuring live plants as well as an outdoor seating area, this will quickly become my favorite cafe to frequent. Their WiFi is fast and reliable, making this place a great work-from-home spot. The staff are super nice and accommodating! They have an extensive menu full of teas and coffees, definitely a place to try it all. Got the Argyle Vietnamese coffee and absolutely loved it as it was super strong and flavorful.

First sip is my favorite cafe near home. Their cold brew is dark and rich. For fast hot coffee, they brew medium and dark roast in the morning. Their signature drinks are really what separates them from the other coffee shops in Chicago. The "golden latte" contains the perfect amount of calming tumeric. The "first kick" is cold brew with a pinch of jalapeno spice. Their baked goods are also fun to try. The pistachio muffin is my latest addiction. Pay a visit, grab a warm drink this winter, and relax as you admire the variety of plants placed around the cafe.

  • Seo Young Myaeng

It’s very difficult to find a Cafe in Argyle and First Sip Cafe is probably the only one you can find in the area. But they provide such good drinks and it may not be necessary to have any other cafes nearby. I had their latte and winter special latte (it was the one with lavender flavor) and all were delicious. I’d love to get to try the other special drinks offered there. It’s not the biggest place though and can get crowded most times.

I've been wanting to try this cafe out for years since they opened. I'm glad I finally did. I ordered the Ube Vietnamese coffee and it was deliciously strong. I don't usually finish my coffee but this one I did up the last sip. I would definitely come back veneer in in Argyle. We came in as soon as they open so it was nice and quiet. The service was fast as well. Plenty of street parking.

The best tea shop in Chicago. Two local Vietnamese sisters own this shop and they are fantastic. If you come often you will get to know the amazing community they have formed around this little gem. Come at night and you might find some things that are only on their secret menu. Try one of the drinks with Ubae (Vietnamese purple sweet potato) or Charcoal. Some drinks I love are Pearl Noir or Coco+Lavender.

When I am able to get served, it’s been great. With it being a cafe that opens later than most (9am), one would assume the cafe would be ready to serve customers at 9am but that’s not been the case for the past two days. The cafe doors may open at 9am and nothing is ready. Today I stood in the cafe for 5 minutes without anyone coming to even acknowledge me. Sad to say that I won’t be returning unless something is done. Great products though if you ever get a chance to try them.

  • Osmar Contreras

I've been following them for over a year, I live across the city (like literally) and I gotta admit, my expectations were reached, the decorations are amazing in person and the people overall (staff and costumers) gave a great vibe, I had 3 drinks and all of them were hella good, I'll be back as soon as I humanly can. (Pearl Noir latte showed in the picture, be aware in case you wearing bright colors...)

Very cute little coffee shop. A lot of space to sit down and work. I got the orange blossom latte and it was a little strange because it felt like drinking orange chicken. Probably wouldn't order again but it wasn't bad. I enjoyed that it wasn't too sweet. Service was prompt and a large variety of coffees and teas to choose from. A few staples for snacks/food available as well.

First time visiting first sip but definitely will be back. I love the whole plants decoration and the vintage style inside. Usually you don’t see this on argyle but this coffee shop makes the difference on the area. My croissant was delicious and the ube latte ☕️ was amazing, first time trying a coffee with this flavor. Highly recommended this shop if you in the area, definitely such a cute place and amazing spot for instagram pictures also.

I’m visiting from MD and was looking to grab my morning coffee fix. I’m beyond glad I found a local business, First Sip Cafe. Three words to describe this place: Original, Delicious, Quick. I ordered a salted caramel latte, which was made to perfection- velvety smooth and sweet. Then I ordered an Iced Sweet Sip, Mary’s Rose: Black tea with rose and rosemary. I’m so impressed that I’m sipping on it while I write this review.

  • Brandon Banas

Their lattes are magical! Their orange blossom, lavender, banana, and rosemary are my personal favorites! As you drink them, they change flavor profiles and get better and better! The way the create their drinks is amazing and the decor on the inside is so cute and cozy. If you're visiting Uptown and want a quick boost, give First Sip a try!

Love at first sip. Really good coffee both hot and cold, plus creative teas and lattes of various sorts. Fast, friendly, and fun. I just moved a block away, and I'll be going back all the time. Most recently I had an iced Spicy Mango Latte. Yet another winner. Additionally, in this time of Covid, they do a great job of keeping customers spaced out, the interior clean, and everyone wears masks! That can't be beat.

  • Cassidy Buckelew

By far my favorite coffee shop in Chicago! Their drinks are delicious, the staff is so friendly, and they are active within the Uptown community. I love seeing the new artists featured in the shop and find myself coming back more and more often! Show yourself some love and take yourself on a coffee date to First Sip! You will definitely be thanking yourself for discovering your new favorite coffee shop, too!

  • Rachel Hunter

This place is super cute and has excellent coffee and food. The pistachio mint lattes here are the best drink I’ve ever had! I also tried the caprese panini and loved it. My husband got the ham and cheese crescent and said it was delicious. Overall, everything here is tasty and the environment itself is welcoming and comfortable. I’d get one of the pistachio mint lattes from here every day if I could.

  • Anna H

Person we dealt with was unpleasant from beginning to end. Not overtly rude, just not friendly and not interested in ensuring that we had a positive experience. Almost audibly sighed when I asked her to clean a dirty table. My friend's coffee was so hot that he burned his tongue on it. My iced coffee was just okay. Everything is in to-go cups even though there is no public health rationale for this.

  • Craig Stern

This place is awesome! Full of aesthetic whimsy, prompt service, and the drinks are fantastic. On my first visit, I got a delicious, gigantic cookie and a hot golden milk (which I would describe as being a bit like drinking creme of gulab jamun--totally unique and incredibly good!) My partner got a latte, and she assures me that it's "good coffee." I'll be coming back to this place again for sure.

  • Sabahat Afreen

The place is really cute, I love the interior and the ambience. I like what they serve, the limeade is good, coffees are really nice, cheesecake not so much; the crust is just too hard and seems unedible. However, I find the employees very rude. They dont even smile at you while taking orders or while serving you (even if you say something funny) they stare at you. I don't feel as welcome.

  • Jordan N

This cafe is so cute! Was visiting a friend who lives around the corner, and I wanted a latte - we stopped in and ordered one of the many flavor offerings available (pistachio mint latte). The staff was very friendly, and the atmosphere is very inviting. I've been in my fair share of coffee shops around the world, and this one is up there on my top 10 list. Looking forward to coming back.

  • sara cruz

I love how cute the environment is inside. You can bring friends and family to play board games that they provide, read books, do work, print papers but most importantly have a variety of food/drinks that you can't find anywhere else. THEY HAVE THE BEST UBE LATTE and my favorite combo with it is to put oat milk. I love the staff as well, so I say it's the best hangout spot

Lots of unique and delicious options. Sandwiches and some sweet treats, along with plenty of beverages. They have plenty of milk types and dairy alternatives, and some drinks without either as well. Fair prices, very cute and photogenic seating area, and nice vibes. The staff is nice and helpful, and they have restrooms too. Quite clean too.

  • Jonathan Zacsh

Music selection can be a bit annoying, kind of like 70s rock station, not the easy-to-tuneout moody cafe music you might get elsewhere. Great selection of tea, and a light coffee selection. Really nice space inside with various seating options (couch, side table, large table, window stools, etc.), free WiFi, and free board games in the back.

  • Huda Lyne

New favorite place to get work done. It’s so cute in there. They have old-times sewing machine desks to work at. The back area is a little too dim in my opinion to work at, but the place is so clean and cute. I love it so much. Glad to have this tea/coffee shop in the area to work at!! All their lattes are great. Thank you!

First Sip Cafe rocks! Hands down. Each and every one of their coffee and tea creations is unique and flavorful. Service is stellar and both the indoor vibe and outdoor patio are super chill. Come study, work, or enjoy company over a beverage at First Sip. This place is DEFINITELY being marked down on the “favorite” list.

Great coffeeshop! The latte flavors are all top-notch and interesting. You won't find Starbucks equivalents here! The atmosphere is very relaxing, too. Very nice staff, great customers. Well decorated - flowers and small teacups all over the place. Tasty treats and convenient location (east of the Argyle red line).

Easily one of the most delightful coffee shops in the city and it's so nice to find one that's open late in the winter! The atmosphere is great and the two women who own the place make you feel like family. I love that they experiment with tea and coffee flavors, the ubae latte and wait and sip being the best.

Adorable and cozy, this is my favorite cafe ever. The menus is unlike anything I’ve ever seen, a variety of unique and delicious teas and coffee drinks. I love that it’s owned by sisters from the community, and they often display local artists and writers. Their summer limeades are insanely good too!

Ube latte was awesome; would probably request less sweet next time. I do not understand the appeal of the ambience. Why would you want to hang out in an all black painted room during the day? It has such a dark heavy feel, if that's your thing.

There are so many cafe's in Chicago but First Sip Cafe stood out enough that I rode 5 miles on my bike to get there, and it was so worth it! Their unique menu and cute atmosphere made me wish I had come sooner. I got their Ube Latte and would definitely go back to try their Strawberry Patch latte!

This is my number one coffee shop to come to in Chicago. The staff is incredible, the space is cozy (plants galore), and the drinks are amazing. If youre coming to Argyle to get your Vietnamese food fix, make sure to stop by this establishment. Favorite drinks: Coco & Lavendar Rose Limeade

I’ve never had a bad drink here. I really admire how all of their signature lattes contain condensed milk and cannot be substituted, like yes, let’s get Vietnamese. Service is direct and assertive. I would totally be the barista’s best friend but she wouldn’t be mine…. Ya know?

I love this place lattes are unique & delicious (banana split / spicy mango five stars ✨⭐️) and baristas are so nice! Plants everywhere make so cozy and incredibly fun for morning drink and draw with friends ✍️ stop by if you have the time!☕️ …

Quaint coffee house with eclectic plant decorations all around. Wifi option, and plenty of plugins. Unique lattes including a delicious spicy mango and mint pistachio that were quite enjoyable on this chilly morning. Offered in hot and cold. Nice patio space in the summer.

  • Fernando Vazquez

Really cool shop with some interesting drinks. I had the pistachio mint latte, which is pictured in my post. It was divine! The baristas/workers could smile a little more or even display that they're interested in helping you. Other than that, I would definitely go back!

  • sam

I've been here a number of times. The coffee and tea is typically pretty good. And the atmosphere is pretty nice. Today I had an awful experience with them. I was given the wrong drink. Asked for the drink I initially ordered and was given the wrong drink a second time.

  • Nicole Brennan

I live in the neighborhood and have gone to First Sip lots of times!! So cute, good prices, and tasty drinks! But this is the second time I’ve come here when they open at 9am and they are closed. I know they keep a summer schedule, but today (or the time before). :(

  • Mallory Pavlik

I’ve been here twice and love the atmosphere and the drinks. The second time I went the owner? (older woman) seemed angry when taking my order and it was a bit unsettling/makes me cautious to come back because of my own anxiety. But I really do like this place!

  • Theo Kirkley

Interesting selection and amazing decor. I had the Golden Milk which was coconut milk with turmeric and other spices. I wasn't extremely impressed but I was glad they had it. Oh, don't eat their Jewel-Osco pastries unless you somehow enjoy Jewel-Osco pastries.

Haven't been inside a cafe to sit down in so long- I'm glad it's First Sip! Just had the most amazing iced latte. Pistachio-mint, with strong espresso that cuts through the nutty-creamy combo. It comes with oat milk, which I think is a nice fit.

Best Tea and Best Coffee shop in Chicago, family owned. Classic drinks you love and many combinations you’ve never heard of. Just look at the photos. Fast WiFi, plenty of spots to work, and the sisters that run this place are awesome. Must try!!

Absolutely love this coffee shop. The drinks are so unique and delicious. The space has such an inviting atmosphere, and I love the hanging tea cups and plants!

This is a lovely cafe for a good quality latte on the way into work or to order a tea and get some work done in! Homey aesthetic (although I'm paranoid about the tea cup decorations falling***I kid, I kid***), good service, and great drinks.

A little pricey. However, got the ginger tea. Delicious. My friend got the pistachio mint latte, that was delicious too. Great atmosphere. I brought my 2-year with me and one of the employees gave him a piece of chocolate. Would come again.

This place is a must go for coffee shop lovers! Such a cozy atmosphere - plants everywhere, antiques and they even have tea cups hanging from the ceiling… Most importantly their drinks rock! EVERYONE should try the Vietnamese coffee!!

  • Jonathan Kim

Great place to get a cup of special lattes. They have a pretty exciting menu. The only place I had coffee like this was in San Fran. If you are tired of the regular lattes and literally want to spice it up, this is the place to go.

Love this place! Great variety of coffee drinks and non-coffee drinks as well as a nice place to sit and work! I also love the staff. Definitely a go-to if you are in the neighborhood! Recommend the Viet Iced Coffee

I loved the Rosemary's Bleeting Heart with Oatmilk. Friendly staff. Beautiful cafe covered with plants and nice outdoor seating. I like the hours too. I can see myself coming back to study or catch up with friends

I. Love. This. Place. The owner is super friendly, makes tasty drinks (try the Sweet Ginger ... I prefer it cold, even on a cold day). The place has a feel like the owner designed it herself, and it's very homey.

The pistachio mint latte is actually the best latte I’ve ever had! SO good. The Vietnamese iced coffee and caprese panini are amazing too. Great atmosphere - lots of plants inside. We will definitely be back!

  • Jared Herter

Great little coffee shop. I've only been there in the evening for their music and art shows. Really fun and a great way to get to know the local neighborhood talent. The owners are incredibly inviting too!

My favorite cafe in Chicago. The tea by itself is phenomenal and the ability to mix and match ingredients to create custom coffee, tea and combination lattes is awesome. The food is really solid too

Cute little coffee shop with some great flavor options that aren't common at other places. I'll be sure to stop by again next time I'm in town!

The space has so many plants which I personally love! There are even propagates that you can buy at the cash register. This is a great spot to hang out with friends but can get very loud.
