MODERN, WELL DESIGNED METRO STATION ON THE WEST-BOUND LINES Footscray station is just two stops out from the city but it does feel distinctly suburban with its own vibe and culture. Its directly opposite the Footscray Market where you will be delighted by the huge variety of of foods (with a strong Vietnamese influence). Just through the market and you are on Hopkins Street which has some great Pho restaurants and fusion Asian eateries. Next time you are thinking of training it to a city station, opt for Footscray instead and check out the local scene! heaps of African, Vietnamese and Chinese place sto eat. There are lots of trains stopping here as it's on the way the various western suburban destinations. It feels safe and well lit and has a very intuitive layout. Good access for people with mobility issues via lifts and ramps. The platform to the city is at street level with no steps or other impediments.

I just had an amazing experience at the station in Footscray. The men in purple calling out the coming and going trains were very helpful and informative (one even offered to have my bags held in a safe area so that I could run and get my Vline ticket printed out at the information desk. This was a gesture I first politely declined, as I didn’t think it was necessary, but after the fact was glad I did because it was pouring rain and it would’ve been a hassle to lug all my stuff up the escalators and back down). Once at the information desk, the lady printed out my ticket promptly and was very friendly in wishing me a nice trip. Back at the Vline platform, the men in purple allowed me to grab my bags and informed me when my train would be departing. These men really went above and beyond tonight and made my experience a breeze!

I was a user of this station in 2014 when RRL was doing the rebuild here to get to and from a program I was doing at the time, and I again became a regular user when I started a course at VU Footscray Nicholson in 2017. The station is a massive step up from what it used to be, RRLA really did a good job redeveloping it to accomodate the RRL tracks but also taking the whole station and precinct into account. I often remark the station is the nicest thing on that side of Footscray. Although I agree with the review on here that said it was pointless redeveloping it twice. The government should of held off redoing the walkway until RRL was built, as they would of built a new walkway like the ones at West Footscray and Sunshine. But anyway, big step up and a nice station overall nonetheless.

2 stars for being a convenient station. But other than that, the -3 stars is the horrible interaction with PSOs here last week. They treat people like criminals. Went through the ticket machine and then had two 'Authorised Officers' ticket inspectors that were standing in front of the checkpoint stomp up to me and start yelling with the most vicious animosity, with why I had a concession card -- yet it was very clear they knew that I am a tertiary student and therefore have valid entitlements to concession. In addition to that, they wasted 15 more minutes with questioning me back and forth over this. Absolutely appalling behaviour by these unchecked draconian PTV ticket inspector officers.

Hi I arrived at Footscray station with my 12yr old son who has just started high school. Could not access my funds from my bank account to top up my or my son's card.. very embarrassing !! I spoke to Sharon and we tried my other cards / old Myke cards .. you name it....and eventually got my son to school and myself to work. Called her later to confirm my Myke status - she remembered me and was so helpful with her explanation of how the system works. (It appears I have a concession card which does not state Concession on it ..work that out?) Just want to say a big thanks to Sharon for her professionalism this morning. Really appreciate your patience. Patricia Quinn

Another railway station that I probably don't actually need to sit down and waste my time with a review, but because I tend to like writing reviews, I think I'll do that with this place. Actually, this is a pretty major railway station, with lots and lots of trains stopping and passing through. In fact you really don't need to wait all that long for a train to come, though the multiple platforms do suggest that you need to be aware of where the next train to the city is going to stop. They have also significantly upgraded the place to make it much more accessible, but have retained the older buildings as well, which is a huge bonus in my mind.

As I was gently strolling down the platform, I immediately noticed spotting a cohort of mentally troubled junkies that were clearly unable to preform an appropriate character in a public location, were other thoughtful individuals that were trying to get to their platform. The atrocious state of their machines and infrastructure clearly need to develop into the standard of our new and glorious CBD Immediately. I strongly suggest that every individual in the core of Melbourne to completely avoid this terror of a place and find a different route around the city rather than interacting with junkies on a platform.

Footscray Station is a tease. Honestly a great transition from one place to another, especially if you don’t want to go all the way with Melbourne, you can fool around a bit with Footscray. Contemporary tunnel, plenty of platforms and tech savvy signs this station has no time for a committed relationship with you. Sure you can hang around for about halfa but after that Footscray’s ready to get you on your way. Wouldn’t (or more like couldn’t) date but would be good for a re-bound and a tiny bit of killing time.

This station is like a Frankenstein of the public transport network, part old, then a gross tunnel bolted on top then the full update. Somehow at 6.50am there aren’t enough staff to turn on the escalators, it’s hit and miss when they work. On the Platform with Geelong bound trains, a large glass window has been smashed for over a month. Gross, unpleasant and an example of the mediocre state of our Public Transport Network in Melbourne.

I have to say, it's a big step up on the old station and I love the colour scheme they've used (compared to Sunshine's yellow and black). It's a glaring example of how you can do up stations, you don't need any of that ridiculous stuff they're doing now. The walkway gets you from one side to the other, and also from Irving to Hyde Street. And, I love how they've incorporated the historic buildings into it. More of that should be done.

  • Vineet Govani

Nice station with wheelchair accessible toilets and parking. Also lifts, escalators and sheltered seating in waiting area. You can find staff on platforms to help you during busy peak hours. One of the major interchange station for Sunbury and Werribee metro train travellers as well as vline travellers of Geelong, Marshall, Warrnambool, Ballarat, Maryborough, Swan Hill and Echuca. Timetable for Tarneit and Wyndham Vale is here under.

  • Martin Evans

Extremely disappointing for such a big station to see blatant and disgusting nature of the men that work at this station staff. Unfortunately a V/line train stops at footscray into Melbourne every 3 minutes during busy times of the day. You will be greated by the most unprofessional metro staff at the gates. This unfortunate and I hope V/Line dose something about this so I do not have to report a member of the metro team again.

  • Cat Claessens

Good station with heaps of staff to help usually. Generally kept quite clean. Has easy access to a help desk. Could do with a couple of clearer signs to the most heavily used platforms, and an extra Cafe or takeaway inside the station for convenience and attraction to use PTV. Would also love a few more seats as a person with mobility /pain so that there's more chances to rest while waiting.

  • Andrew Bifield

They really blew a lot of money rebuilding this station twice in ten years and the overpass is still a massive slip/trip hazard but you can get three suburban lines and most country trains from this station, so four stars. To be honest, are you really reading reviews of train stations? Probably not. By its nature, railways are a natural monopoly. But I hope this review helped you somehow...

  • Charlie C

Had an issue with Vline coaches replacing trains but a lovely paramedic named Michelle helped me much more than she was required to as I was emotional over missing my train to an important event. Good mental health is just an important as good body health, this is something that all medics should be aware of and greatly appreciated Michelle's awareness. Please give this woman a raise!

A great train station servicing numerous destination points, it's got great access for the able bodied and disabled. The hub has security to the MAX, CCTV everywhere and its monitored by Victoria Police from the evening peak until the last train. The transport hub has bus and tram services to get you where you want to go and there are food services on site and within a 5 minute walk.

  • Du Bla

I've noticed a glitch on the "Next to Arrive" board. The system initially indicates that the next train is 7 minutes away, but suddenly a train arrives on the platform, and the board changes to "Now" or "1 minute." It would be great to have real-time information about the trains departing from platform 5, as I've observed this issue there frequently over the past several weeks.

  • Trevor Brown

We did some filming there this morning and thanks to the staff and management who support the public who go through there. A busy train station and many of the students heading to Victoria University go through there as well. That's why we did the filming and will feature the station in our project. Thanks to Metro and Footscray Train Station, staff and management.

  • Bibek Adhikari

Footscray train station in footscray is nice train station, it got toilets, customer service officer on site, frequent train service for both metro service and vline service, got waiting room...it is wheelchair accessible and lift is available for the access of platform... It's easy to find a train to city from footscray which sure is a very good thing..

  • Hanzel Horchenbergen

Tried to grill my wife some veggie burgers here however the PSO’s confiscated my electric barbeque as apparently you are not allowed to use the overhead train electricity lines to plug into your barbeque. Thankfully however, I had my gas berbeque handy and grilled to completion my wife a little succulent veggie burger.

  • Sam B

My favourite station. This is footscray station. It's amazing. Everyone who complains about ticket officers are just fair evaders. Great for people along werribee line wanting to go on vline. We don't have to go all the way to southern cross which is nice. Also Footscray station has a song. WHich is pretty impressive.

  • Mianne Whitley

I only go there cause I'm a person who knows where to go for bargains and I go to cheaper by the mile before going to the big supermarkets you will be amazed by how much money you can save must check it out and the staff are very friendly to everybody and it doesn't get very busy in there stores

  • Phillip Edward Ness

This station is well managed. The station is tidy and there are signs in all the right places to help you find the right location to get to your destination from the station. My friend Dirk was so happy when he managed to reach the platform we needed in time to catch the next train.

  • Tony Lai Kuang

Wow its been this long since I took a stroll back to footscray. Alot has changed the train station itself has gone through some amazing renovations, it even has small businesses along side it. Worth a visit footscray station and while here why not the markets and restaurants. A gem

  • katelyn turnbull

The staff on the vline are great. I witnessed a school girl being badgered by a middle age man and they handled this impeccably. Police were called, the man escorted from the station, as well as the staff staying by her side and handing her over to the conductor. Great job vline.

  • James Sargeant

Verry clean station but the track change tower could be used for something like they have done at Werribee hoppers crossing a coffee shop fish n chip shop restaurant on platform 4/5 someone should take a look big $$$ to be made... ☕️ …

  • grace george

Not all platforms have toilet but the footscary market toilet is open to public as well, which is very neat and clean. The market toilet is just opposite the station on platform 1. Outside of the station is amazing with seats to help you relax and wait on bus

  • Aidan Hitchcock

A nice station that is both modern and old style. There are many trains that stop here and is also a V-Line station. There is a lack of shade on some platforms though and there are too many ticket officers which may make some feel uncomfortable.

  • Craig Lawrence

Much safer than it used to be ... not as many bashings, but bikes still get stolen regularly. The guys in the office are really helpful with Myki top ups and student travel card applications. Much better than other unattended stations.

  • Chris Rodgers

The renovations have been pretty good overall however the weirdos that hang around especially after dark are still there, good when the PSO's are around but they're not always in sight. Safe enough during the day for the most part.

  • Sanjaya

Footscray railway station is the junction station for the Sunbury, Werribee and Williamstown lines in Victoria, Australia. It serves the western Melbourne suburb of Footscray, and it opened on 17 January 1859

  • F Paul

It's ok. As a few have noted, the place is not that safe at night, especially when PSO is not around. Otherwise, pretty average station: has toilets, lifts access, covered waiting room, parkings nearby.

  • Shani

Usually clean, helpful staff, nice inside waiting rooms on some platforms (could do with heating at platform 4 though, since it can be a long wait between vline), good view of the city from the top

  • Andree L'Estrange

I lost 3.50 in a vending machine on platform 5at Footscray Station- it takes the money but no goods and no refund . It's the one with chocolate and chips in it . Who do I contact to get it fixed?

  • John Little

Trains running late and not even a announcement,I go and ask and the person there sitting back on chair not even attempting to let anybody know the city loop and Frankston line are running late

  • Cindy-Lee Parker

  • Julian D

Great station facilities. The stairs have amazing textured tiles. Would sleep on this again. They also are very big steps to each platform. Which is great for working out your glutes.

  • Taylar Borg

Dissapointed. Escalators weren’t working and neither were myki machines making me miss my train. Delays should apply if they are unable to provide proper assistance

  • Thomas Liontis

It can feel 'unsafe' at night but otherwise ok, has some of the usual facilities around the station and a decent amount of shelter in case it rains.

  • Carl Bronkhorst

I like this station, it's the hub for the south West, west west and Melbourne CBD. Parking it's atrocious, but what can ya do about it?

  • R C

It’s a busy station with poor design. Understanding the heritage requirements there is no excuse for the signage to be unreadable.

  • Lauren Hamilton

You guys need a new speaker or something. All of your announcements sound like "warble garble garble". Can't understand a thing.

  • David Rose

The major upgrade has made this station user friendly whilst keeping some of the historical features of the original platforms.

  • waffles lmao

Overdesigned and a massive maze, but there’s nothing we can do about it except blame the 1920’s or whenever I guess

  • Arun Chandran

Good station with frequent vLine and Metro services. There are also tram and bus connections near the station.

  • Graham Rodda

Modern and easy to use with a good touch of the old station. Vline trains stop here and and are very pleasant.

  • Syed K

Worst in terms of maintenance and accessibility.see the toilets walls stinky and dirty. Taken on platform 4.

  • Ras Berry

Well staffed and high frequency station. Modernised and provides access to some parts of country network.

  • Sam McLeod

Trains to Southern Cross almost always too full to board at Footscray station and it keeps getting worse.

  • Damian O'Regan

  • Willson Santoso

Has multiple/frequent lines running to the CBD and get you into CBD in about 10 minutes.

  • Sheng-Yuan Wang

Not very user friendly and it can take long time to talk from one platform to another

  • S Chitta

Improved station facilities, yet felt a little sceptical to wait on the platforms.

  • Adrian Goslett

Clean high volume metropolitan and country line train station. Very helpful staff

  • Toby Foster

I can easily get out towards Echuca through here from the West side of the city.

  • Helen Oberthur

Well lit, manned station, good accessability for those with mobility challenges

  • Jenny Walsh

It can be really confusing what trains are going where, especially the vline.

Easy accessable, they have lift and good customer service and have toilet.
