Melbourne Southern Cross Station is a remarkable transportation hub that offers a seamless and convenient experience for travelers. Located in the heart of Melbourne, this station serves as a gateway to various destinations, both within the city and beyond. One of the standout features of Melbourne Southern Cross Station is its modern and well-designed infrastructure. The station boasts spacious and clean platforms, making it easy for passengers to navigate and find their way. The signage is clear and informative, ensuring that travelers can easily locate their desired trains or buses. The station is also equipped with a wide range of amenities to enhance the overall travel experience. From a variety of dining options to convenient shopping outlets, there is something for everyone. Second major station in Melbourne's CBD and the main hub for Regional Services. The station lacks decent ventilation - there can be awful diesel fumes on still days. Stores on both the upper concourse and lower concourse - mainly food stores but there is also a pharmacy, newsagents and phone store. The food is your basic fast food options. The toilets here are horrible. There are none available on the upper concourse where all Metro services depart. This is a huge design flaw. The two lots of toilets on the lower concourse (outside the main VLine gates near platforms 3/4) and the ones on the way to the Coach Terminal (below the Bourke Street Bridge) are disgustingly smelly and dirty. Not a good advertisement for visitors to the city. The lack of bins on the Platforms mean that there is often a lot of rubbish dumped on the seats and platforms. Navigating the station is also difficult. The lifts on to the platforms are small and slow. They also seem to break down a lot. Whilst the Metro platforms have escalators from both ends, the access to Platforms 1-8 has been completely neglected. One Escalator and then a long trek down to the main concourse. The whole station lacks any character and is sterile and unattractive. No greenery and very few comforts. It is either cold and dark or stinking hot - and still drab and dark. There is a PTV Hub and Travellers Aid available.

This is probably one of the worst train station / hub I ever visited. The lack of ventilation makes the air unbreathable especially when diesel trains are stationary for long time. In 2023 diesel train should use electric power in the city and switch to diesel outside heavily populated areas. This place is often too dark and feel unsafe after sunset, I never see any security personnel or police. Being in the heart of the city and don't feel safe is not a pleasant experience. The sky bus designated area does not have a waiting area, where elderly persons can sit while waiting for the bus. It is also very dark with the most polluted air being an underground car park with no ventilation. This station is fairly new but it's already obsolete for today's standards especially compared to European hubs.

Absolutely my fave train and coach terminal. Has regional and metro trains and regional plus interstate coach terminals, plus easy access to trams, located right on the doorstep. Loves how shiney the new busses are, and the easy access to Coles, and 7/11 for cheap easy meals and coffee! Boasts various supermarkets including Coles and Woolies and a massive Spencer outlet centre upstairs. Has two hungry jacks and lots of other specialised cafes like Starbucks and a lord of the rings. Theirs heaps of dedicated areas for weary travellers to rest including lockers and a travellers aid, and lots of restrooms etc and a taxi ramp outside. Heaps better than flinders but thats my personal preference.

This station is for both Suburban Melbourne plus regional V-line. With V-line double check your platform number, as most leave from the ground floor 'regional' platforms, but there is platforms 15 and 16 from which they depart; accessed through the Metro barriers. I've found staff very helpful in finding the correct platform. Inside the station you'll find a supermarket, newsagent, dry cleaners, lolly shops, and plenty of eating places such as Hungry Jacks, Red Rooster to Sushi and a pub. Facilities provided include a waiting room, prayer room, lockers and toilets. The station is also next to the bus departure area to the airport. Overall, a very good station.

Right at the heart of melbourne, in between the CBD and Docklands, lies this beautiful hub station. Inside the station there are wide platforms and access to all train lines as including the Vline towards areas outside of melbourne. Outside the station contains multiple bathrooms, food establishments and tram stops that will take you all over the city and beyond. Ive had the pleasure of being at this station during the day and even late at night, and whether im out for business or going for drinks the station has always been a sort of old reliable for its travellers overall 8/10 this station is 100% better than flinders, but probably not as iconic.

  • Benedict Uy

This was the station where the skybus dropped me off. There were many train lines here that went to most places around Melbourne, as well as trams lines just outside the station to get you into the central area and further out. Quite a few counters for help and directions, otherwise most of the areas are well-signposted so just take a peek at the screen to see where the train you're looking for is and head to the platform. The station has quite a few outlets scattered around as well as an outlet shop connected on the first floor above the skybus depot. It was a really nice and large station that was easy to access and get around in.

Southern Cross have one off top 10 hallow design in Start off 2000 era.... If you looking on the roof of this building u will find it's made by air pads that's inflammation or deflammations controlling by computer .calculations or humidity temperature and... other elements are effect in the final action. Have it's own flaws and out mods designs but because of dejavo feel open space design bring with them for any person within space give you positive feel soon you forget your idea about old school's designs or any ideas you may drawing in your thoughts for upgrade or redesigning matter.

  • Nic Beament

This place is dismal. I see they tried to inject some whimsical roof over the old and drab Spencer St Station, but forgot one basic thing, cleaning. The total lack of bins means rubbish is left on all manner of objects, oak milk cartons vying for fast food soft serve containers. If the operator of this train station invest a small percentage of revenue from the immense amount of advertising then maybe it could be a half decent transport hub. Sadly regional visitors and international travelers are greeted to Melbourne with sticky residue and a smell of diesel fumes.

Everything that a railway station should be. Heart of Melbourne transport connecting Metro, Vline and National transport network. You can also get connections from and to airport via skybus network. Travel for interstate by bus also starts here. Car hires are around the corner as well. Lots of choice for eateries. It also includes a supermarket within station. Very well staffed and maintained clean. Lots of screens provide upto date platform info. Staffed 24 hours. Hungry jacks is also on 24 hours. Good waitong room near vline/skybus ticketing area.

  • Andrew W

Luv Southern Cross Station - being from our of town it puts you literally in a stones throw distance from anywhere in the city - if you have a V/Line ticket that means it ALSO covers you for Zone 1 & 2 - so you can get on a tram, bus or Metro to the suburbs etc and all over the city - its awesome, its cheap compared to driving your car - Seriously - why would you bother putting the keys into the ignition of your car when you can buy a daily pass for $10 …. Let someone else drive … No Stress.. just relax and enjoy

Southern Cross is one of the best rail stations in Victoria. It has a large selection of shops inside the building, and many more a few hundred meters away. It has toilets (kind of nasty), Myki top up machines, a luggage hall, prayer room, vending machines, Very clear announcement's, staffed first to last train 7 days a week, nice diesel smell, friendly staff, 100% wheelchair accessible, tram, bus Metro and V/line services. Overall an amazing station, always worth visiting . If I could give 10 stars i would.

  • Arun Chandran

Second major train station in Melbourne's CBD. Regional vline and coaches start from here if you're going out of Melbourne. Regular metro services also go via Southern Cross Station. It has floating sails above the Metro train tracks, which gives it a very contemporary look. There are toilets located both on Bourke Street side and Collins street side if the station. There is a lot of very friendly V/Line staff. Several outlet shops, restaurants, and coffee shops are located upstairs at Spencer Outlet.

  • Colin McKay

The platforms and directions are all sign posted clearly. Many of the trains are also announced over the speakers. There are a number of places to refill water bottles. There are a few food sellers upstairs after 8am. We could not find anywhere to recharge our mobile phones. This was a significant issue as we had just arrived on a train without changing facilities and we later left on a train without charging facilities

  • Blair Collins

It's southern cross or some call it spencer street or stars ??? It's a major station in the city and is the major junction for V-line and the Sydney train. It's almost always busy though really busy during events so trains can get crowded here. As for the station its self lotta food and drinks in and around the station good access to other transport options aswell its a decent station I have no real complaints about it.

  • Joydip Sinha

Southern Cross railway station is a major railway station in Docklands, Melbourne. It has 22 platforms. The station is the terminus of the state's regional railway network operated by V/Line, The Overland rail service to Adelaide, and NSW TrainLink XPT services to Sydney. It is also served by metropolitan rail services operated by Metro Trains, and connects with Flinders Street station and the underground City Loop.

  • Rob Ayala

This train station is always busy, day or night and probable the least amount of staff around to help , what I really don't understand how vline customer need to wait in the cold, while there is an empty train and will become the actual train towards the destination. Yet try to get in and you will be stormed with staff( I wonder where they hide) becuase they are not helping or proving direction .

  • Jawad Arain

Very modern and updated train station with all the facilities arounds specially convenience stores and pharmacy. Catch all the Vline trains and buses from this place. There are two areas for small lockers. One was out of order so try the other one in skybus terminal area. Can hire from 3 hours to 10 hours. Very handy facilitie. Also train to Sydney xpt service departs from here.

  • Reanna Jay

Fairly good with keeping up to date on train run times, good range of last minute shopping. But the bins man. There's no bins on the platform yet there's vending machines. Not everyone will hold onto their rubbish until they get off later on so there's litter on the platforms all the time. Flinders etc have clear plastic bins, southern cross needs to get with it.

  • Sin Fong Chan

Southern Cross Station Visited on 7/9/2022 It is a very contemporary design station with floating sails over the Metro train tracks. The country train track is the far end and the interstate train tracks are close to the main entrance. When new the "saiks" look great, but they look a bit tired and dirty,

  • Debbie Masliczek

Beautiful train station.. Any train to anywhere.. Access to Spencer St outlet many food and drink and coffe stores..hungry jacks, red rooster Gloria jeans and friendly staff placed around large station for customer service..beautiful place evening your not travelling and just want a day out

  • Edward Zia

Southern Cross Station is a top hub with such beautiful design and more. It's one of the best stations I've ever seen and it's well sign posted to get around and more. Great staff too. They give you directions anywhere and very patient with my silly questions x

  • Duc Truong

Use it almost every day and just sick of how bad it is! Diesel fume is too much! Lack of escalators and stairs to platforms, really bad in the morning rush. The distance/height between concourse and platforms exacerbates the issue. Just a bad design overall.

  • Kate Georgia

It's one of Melbourne's inner city stations. Is what it is.. ‍♀️ not really expert on reviewing stations. Not even a thing cos no one's interested....but is a great station to use if need to go someone and you are close to this station.... …

  • Michael Hancock

It's a train station, so not much to say about that, but the toilets are vile. One today had urine all over it, another had projectile fences sprayed all over the walls and some clogged. I know people can be disgusting, but this is just unacceptable.

  • Vaevaeongo Tearoa

Country trains vline and coaches commuting runs starts from here if you're going out of Melbourne, local trains still connects here and connected to the famous marvel stadium we're all experiencing with diesel trains and electric seems ok I

  • jvt _93

Southern cross is a great station. It's large and relatively easy to use. It has a lot of platforms that are placed well and close to each other. There are a lot of diesel's that run out of there that generate a lot of smells but it isn't

  • Joe Greene

Utterly filthy because the owners have an intense dislike of bins, roof serves to ensure the station constantly reeks of diesel fumes and the layout is poorly thought out for anything other than trying to filter you into the shops dotted

  • Matt Thomas

A real swing and a miss (in reference to its upgrade from Specer St Station). The station is poorly laid out, dark, VERY smelly (diesel fumes) and lacks proper way finding. It's a very sad welcome to Melbourne for people on V Line or the

  • Jai Murone

Travelled here on the XPT, and what an amazing station to arrive at. The architecture is phenomenal and is a great place to look at all the V/Line & Metro services (as well as any other trains). And I can’t wait to come back here . …

  • Richard T.Whybrow

Formerly know as Spencer Street Station this major transport hub is of historical significance with a face lift. Country and suburban trains arrive and depart constantly throughout the day. This is one of the five city loop stations

  • Tika Pratiwi

One of the major stations in Melbourne. I fell in love with the structure of this building! The place is so cool, it has a prayer room also which is awesome. It didn't make me confused because the direction is so clear.

  • Gordon Reid

The most user-unfriendly station, especially for Victoria's main terminal. Southern Cross was obviously designed by people that don't catch public transport. And why is there no visible ATM anywhere to be seen!

  • Ben Ashton

I don't understand why there's No bins for rubbish. No bins anywhere. Not even next to the station's fast food restaurants. And information on RAIL SERVICE seems to be a scarcity. I think they can do better.

  • Kendall 12358

Large Station, All the Regional trains and buses depart from here, lots of very friendly V/Line staff, Spencer Outlet is upstairs with many outlet shops and places to eat and get a good coffee.

  • theaffablegeek

Southern Cross station is a hub for both Victorian rural trains (Vline) and the city metro lines. External services include access to trams that run along the front of the building.

  • S L Chong

We visited this very large train station in Melbourne. The architecture is interesting and many trains arriving and departing. There are some food outlets at the station entrance.

  • Satish Chandran

Train Station am told was designed by the chaps behind Wembley stadium in London. Looks grand from the outside. Access to Melbourne airport via the Skybus from here.

  • Felita Eka Novianti

Clean Station. Quite have complete schedule to went to side-town or more far away destination. Easy to find and read the schedule info also. You can use MYKI too.

  • Ken Z

The place looks run down, needs a makeover/deep clean. Being an important part of the rail/bus network it should be much better. Melbourne deserves better…

  • Matthew Williamson

Always smells like diesel, there are no bins, and the subway's closed to pedestrians. It's not terrible, but most of Melbourne's train stations are better.

  • William Cowley

Velocity trains suck! At least one a week breaks down on the geelong line. This station is a massive eyesore, stinks of diesel and is very grey and cold.

  • justin c

Great station to catch a train or to get off one. Some shopping to be had here as well as fast food restaurants. It's the wonderful heart of Melbourne

  • Mr Melbourne

Passenger services were started in 1859 with a single main platform. ... Previously known as Spencer Street Station, the Southern Cross Station is a

  • δϮυ ,'J

Huge....bit cold & drafty but all the shops r warm. I could stare at the roof 4 hours it's amazing so glad they had the balls to build it...

  • Alan Young

One of Melbourne's 5 CBD stations. This is probably the biggest hub with metro, vline and the airport shuttle (bus) departing this station.

  • asrin lukes

Nice station and accurate service. But some people need to be mindful when travelling on a crowded train and not to be selfish.

  • Megha

Deducting a star for super confusing signage. First platform 15A, then 15 B then some platform S. S for super confusing

  • The Devil and The Kiwi, Bruce and Greg Detectorists

Very Central. Interesting Fact: The roof of Southern Cross Station was built in Tasmania and shipped over in parts.

  • Arc de Triomphe

Very clean and spacious - it provide clear instructions on how to board the trains. Convenient supermarket nearby
