I'm met The Fosters team approximately 15 years ago back in the early 2000s. The Story Goes Like This, I pulled my bike out from Storage. Think I'm going to be myself a great task of oiling the chain, a few days later I take my bike for a ride and realized the brakes don't work. I have no idea how to adjust them as they are disc brakes oh, I bring my bike to a bike shop I won't name it, somebody working there take my bike and hands back me a few days later and says you're good to go. I immediately on it and try to pedal and put on the brakes, the bike will not stop. I asked them to adjusted again and I'll come back another day. I come back a few days later and the bike still has the same issue. By then decide I need to go to a different bike shop. I now walk my bike from one bike shop to another. When I get the team of techs that are all bike riders, Tyler greets me and asks what's up, I say brake issues and explain, he says how about I add a new brake pad, literally 5 min later my brakes feel brand new again. then over the years from then they fixed little things for me and my family. yesterday I was biking and broke off the bolt that holds my crank into the bike, oh my I think this bike is now dead, I call Rami at the store, I bring it in, within 15 minutes that had me rolling again. can't say enough about these guys and girls. don't waste your time at shops that don't have long-term techs that actually own and enjoy bikes. updated... Oct 2020 bike gets stolen.. sad but... get a new to me used downhill mountain bike from kijiji and bring it to them for a tune up. they took my bike right away and even cleaned my brake pads from inside the holder for the diac brakes as the technician tyler didn't like that they were making noise and not stopping properly talk about attention to detail they repair bikes as if they were owning the bike themselves, brakes and gears are now smooth. bike is already bqck on my car same day! thank you Fosters.
DO NOT BUY A BIKE FROM THIS SHOP. Worst bike I ever had. I never left a review for anything but after my experience with this store had to leave one. When I walked in the store to get a brand new bike, I said I needed a bike to do uber deliveries and go to school and back, and that I didn't have a specific budget. The sales rep recommended me a Batch bike which I paid around $700 for. This bike has been falling apart within days of buying it. Within the first week and to this day (3 months), all the spokes are falling off on both wheels and the saddle keeps loosening and falling off. When I went back to the store the owner told me I shouldn't be doing uber deliveries with this bike and that I should get a mountain bike. But that's what I bought the bike for...and was recommended that specific bike. In addition, I had to pay around 60$ total to replace spokes on the bike. After the 2nd time I went to 2 other bike shops, told me this wasn't normal spokes seldom come off and if they do it's only after years of usage. I was told to go back to Fosters and ask to change the wheels because they are defective. The owner refused to change the wheels and said he didn't want to pay for the wheels. He offered to change the spokes for free (which doesn't fix the problem). Later on, I had to replace the back wheel completely because I had a flat and all the spokes were falling off. The owner said he would give me a used wheel and give me a good price on it. The very next day, spokes are falling off ON THAT WHEEL.
I have never been so disappointed with a service in my entire life. I paid $140.00 to have my bike tuned up and when I got my bike on the road the tires went flat within the hour - when I took my bike back to have them look at it they refused to help me or give me a refund. I spent $140.00 to have my bike fixed and now I cannot even ride it. Additionally, they initially quoted my dad $60 and when I went in to pick the bike up and pay, they charged me $140.00. I truly wish I took my bike elsewhere, do not have your bike serviced here. The owners are incredibly rude and I’ve honestly never experienced such poor customer service in my life ***** in response to the owners reply to my review: I had called the shop the day after I picked my bike up informing them that the tires were flat despite paying $140 for repairs - I did not use my bike for a week I was only able to bike it home and there I realized the tires are already flat. I understand that the tube is likely broken but what was the $140 charge for? Make sure you get an invoice stating the work that was done because frankly I could have bought NEW TIRES for the price they charge me. My bike was only $300 to buy and they charged me half what my bike is worth, yet I still cannot use my bike. Also please note they quoted my father $60 and charged me (young female) $140. I’ve never made a negative review in my life but this shop and it’s owners are egregious.
Came in with a friend looking for a bike, ended up buying some rim takes and having them installed right then and there! My experience was quick, efficient and reasonably priced. They had that usual standoffish bike shop attitude when I first got in there. Maybe they're wary from being downtown. But it turned around when I bought some awesome rim brakes they had installed. I was pleased as can be when they had Shimano rim brake calipers in-stock for my single speed. I was with a friend who was looking for a commuter bike and didn't plan on buying anything, but had to jump on these brakes. Their tech was awesome and installed them right there in 15 minutes. $15 install fee for each was very affordable, a few bucks for new brake cable and housing. Totally reasonable! I've been to a lot of bike shops and their standoffish attitude is par for the course, but I wish shops weren't like that. They were super responsive helping the people who were coming in. They're clearly a high traffic shop and seemed really great with the people coming in for flat repairs, or quickly diagnosing a loose bearing while I was waiting for my brakes to be installed.
I brought my bike to Fosters after someone tried to steal it, messing it up a bit. I thought the repair was going to be more complicated to fix, but it turned out quite simple. I admit I’m a bit uneducated when it comes to my bike, so it was great when the bike tech that handled my repair explained what happened, how it happened, and exactly what he was doing as he was fixing it, being completely honest and transparent. They could have easily taken advantage, like some other businesses do, and charged me for something I didn’t understand, but didn’t. The tech then tested the bike, aired up the tires and sent me on my way. This was the second time I’ve been to Fosters, first time for a general maintenance, and a tire replacement - both times have been met with quick and friendly service. I’ll be going back and suggesting others to pay them a visit for their bike needs. Thank you!
Amazing service! I've been shopping for a new bike for a little bit, and have encountered some not-so-friendly places in the past. Customer service is really important to me so when it's good, it's great. When it's bad, it's terrible. I stopped by Foster's to check out the selection and was greeted before I fully entered. Good start. The sales reps were all friendly, patient, and really helped educate me to ensure I was making the right purchase. After spending a lot of time there, trying different bikes, and even going for a test ride, we found the right choice for me that I am really happy with and excited to ride. I am very happy with my purchase and that I purchased it from such great people that offer such amazing customer service! I will definitely be using Foster's whenever possible moving forward. A+ grade from this happy customer!
I’ve never created a review for anything good or bad but this was one of the worst experiences of my life. I had an issue with my bike right beside his bike shop so I stopped in. After stopping in I found it was my cog that was loose. This “repair” took them 5 seconds to do charging me 20$. I payed, and was on my way, after a few pedals down the street it broke again. After going back I was met with the store owner who yelled at me saying no refunds and to get out of his store. He proceeded swearing at me and showing easily the worst customer service skills I have ever seen. Please do not go to this store, the way the owner treats people is a joke and I hope nobody has to go through what I had to.
I had been looking for a bike for a few weeks. Last time I was in at Foster's mid-June they explained the supply crunch and said to keep checking back in the coming weeks. Finally, last weekend I stopped by and there was a decent fit for me. I see some complaints in reviews on the owner Rami which I find odd as I appreciated his help. He even threw in a bell for my with my purchase. The fact there's two years of servicing thrown in on purchases is a nice bonus. I'll be back in the coming weeks to get a few more accessories. I encourage other folks looking for a bike to stop by Foster's, recognizing that all stores right now are facing a significant shortage of bikes.
I have fond memories of Foster & Byles from my youth, went there on occasion to get bike accessories, it was a magic place. It saddens me that the service is not what it once was ... the guy who served me at the door was pretty rude and hopped over to the young woman behind because it took me more than 5 seconds (literally) to find the inner tube size I was looking for. My daughter and I waited patiently for a couple of minutes while he chatted with her, never came back to us so we left. Given that there are bicycle shops every few blocks downtown, I'd suggest passing this one over.
A shout-out for Foster's Sports Center: I have availed myself of their services several times during this cycling season. I've been most impressed with the staff who are courteous and competent. Service is provided in a timely fashion and prices are very reasonable. The store is clean and spacious and offers a good selection of bicycles and accessories. Fun Fact: my 84 year old mom remembers Foster's with fondness as this is where she bought bikes for her children so many years ago. Clearly, this local and family-run business has a long history of excellence. Thank you Foster's!
I had my back tire and gears stolen and went to Foster's because I had always had a great experience with their technicians in the past, for tune-ups and when I stopped by for a pump. I was given a quote for a new replacement, but when I arrived to pick up the bike. I was charged a different price. I did post a review here, and the owner took the time and care to reach out, speak to me and kindly apologized for the mix up and returned the amount! I greatly appreciated the honestly and humility, with great customer service. Will be back for my bike needs this summer!
I feel like many of the reviews already written have been unfair. I think the pricing is appropriate and the staff was helpful once prompted. For context, I stopped here on a touring trip, riding across Quebec and Ontario. Despite only buying a few supplies, they really helped me out once they realized I could service my own bike, and gave me a free small torx key to fix my mis-aligned disc break rotor (and hold with me if there were further issues). I'd certainly go back, and I'd encourage others to do the same when riding through Ottawa! Thanks guys!
Very expensive. Missing most needed parts. Website is really outdated. Older man in staff is aggressive and should be avoided. He doesn't listen to customers.clients have to wait a very long time (even during winter to get any results if any for decent help) or to get bike back. $4000 to $5000 for ebikes? Hard no. They couldn't even fix a simple brake line. Brought it in 2 times in one days because tech screwed up. They can't even update their google store hours (google says 9am... Store doesn't even open till 10am). Why is this allowed to happen?
Amazing bike shop. Just dropped my bike off today to get it out of hibernation. Took a beating being used all summer and the guys at Fosters returned it to me better then the day I bought it. Straight as an arrow, no rattling and as smooth as can be. Only costed 28$! The service at drop of was excellent, quick easy and affirmative. The shop was a little quite when I went to pick it up though, must’ve walked in after an argument or something but either way I couldn’t be happier with Fosters.
I went last week to get front brakes for my bike. I will say the employee who assist me was nice. Now, the owner could work on his customer service/selling skills. I didn't appreciate his comments on my bike (asked if it was from walmart, said i shouldn't put "good money on bad money"). Overall, it gave me the impression that the shop was "too good" for my bike. Just read any of the owner's responses on reviews with 2 stars and less and you'll see what I'm talking about.
The Foster's team is always friendly, provide great service at fair prices. The techs drop what they are doing to consult and get you set up with the right parts or fix a flat on the spot. I needed an axle and couldn't find a shop that carries them or would order one. They pulled out their parts bin and gave me an axle for no charge! I highly recommend Foster's for service and sales. There is a reason why they have been around for so long.
If you are looking for a family run and oriented bike shop in downtown Ottawa then Foster’s Sports centre is the place for you. They have a wide selection of sports and biking equipment that I a sure will be enough to satisfy your needs. Staff are friendly and they will help you get back rolling again if you blow out a bike tire on your commute to work. If you like my reviews, videos or photos then foster up a like.
Great experience with Foster’s staff, who greeted me with kind, professional promptness as I entered the door. I needed a very specific metric nut and when I showed the screw, the nut was found in seconds. From the options placed in front of me, I was given the recommended one that (is very hard to undo), for FREE. Was lucky enough to meet the owner, Mr. Foster, who happily shook my hand.
Excellent experience from start to finish. Walked in with half of a job done from another store telling me I needed hundreds of dollars worth of work to have Tyler, the tech at Foster’s tell me it was a quick and easy fix at a fraction of the price. Was quoted two days wait and had my bike back within the same afternoon. Will never go anywhere else for my bikes! 10/10
Very good store. I went to get new front brakes, Had no idea what I was doing. Luckily I had my bike. They were able to match the exact part I needed and even offered to help install. But if you feel confident to DIY you can be like me and go to re-cycles. These places are like two cousins that just are there for eachother
I have purchased two bicycles from Foster's Sports Centre. A Norco in 2000 and a Marin in 2022. Both bikes have been superb. I have brought the Marin in a few times for some minor adjustments. I have always received excellent customer service. I recommend Foster's Sports Centre for your cycling needs.
Tim and the staff are fantastic. They were super knowledgeable on all their products, and while I tried out a few bikes and got Tim’s valuable advice they were servicing a number of other people efficiently to get them back riding. Can’t say enough good things, great shop and service.
Fosters has a huge selection of bikes. Not many XL's sadly. The staff are super informative and friendly. Knew a bunch about the bikes and narrowed down exactly what type of bike I was looking to buy. I'd highly recommend coming here if you are looking to purchase a bike in Ottawa!
I went there at many occasions. Some of the times, depending on who is serving you, you get a good service, some other times, service is really bad and rude. The owner of the store saw that I was looking at bikes and came towards me to ask
It took Foster's 2 attempts to make one simple apartment key, both of which didn't work. I eventually gave up and asked for a refund. I mentioned to the older gentleman that I knew where the key wasn't matching to the original - he didn't
We brought in our bikes for fairly simple services (replacing brakes, inner tube, one tire). Service was quick however it was deeply surprising that each part had an additional service fee. Had thought that the service fee would cover the
I have gone to many different bike stores in Ottawa. Whether it was to fix my bike or my kids' bike or to buy new. I can tell you that, for the last 5 years, I only go to Foster's for my and my family's biking needs. The staff are always
Excellent service. Had a seized seat post broken at the frame that i could not fix and two other shops didn't even want to attempt to repair which would have meant scraping the bike (at least the frame). They fixed it within a few hours
Took my fat bike for a tune up. Picked it up, (it was brought up from the basement which was kind of weird) gears were shifting much worse than before. Called and asked for a refund. Guy on the phone (who I assume is the owner) said no
Second bike from here, last time was during the pandemic. Both times excellent service, no upsell, matched our budget with good bike, was able to take it for a trial outside before buying, adjusted for my fit, decent price. Recommended.
So helpful, friendly, and patient. Shopping with an indecisive teen can test the patience of a saint, but the staff just kept answering questions and pulling out different bikes and in the end we had our bike. The great thing with the
They have some good sale sometimes, but always get the vibe that they really want you out of the store super fast. Even before covid, felt the owners can be a bit rude / snappy at times. Remember, the customer is KING. Care more about
My wife and I are seniors. We purchased new bikes and a bike rack from Foster's late last summer after shopping around. Prices were competitive. Selection and service set them apart from other stores. We returned this Spring for our
Foster's has a huge selection of bikes for riders of all ages and abilities. Staff are very knowledgeable and friendly. Foster's is the best bike shop in Ottawa, hands down.
May 13, 2021 Excellent service! Walked-in and straight to the point. Fast and efficient. Changed my tires - got everything done in 30 minutes. Highly recommend!
Fantastic staff, great experience and always efficient. HIGHLY RECOMMEND. Thank you for always taking care of our family's bikes over the years!
The owner, Rami Oroosi, is trying the best he can under the pandemic circumstances. But He ought to show more respect. Keep up the great work!
We love our bike rack and the selection of bikes at the store. Knowledgeable staff helped us with picking out the perfect bike.
Bad technical service! Bad bikes. I bought a Marlin bodcat4 on 3/11/2023 and now I need to speed more money to fix it.
The team here is great. The prices are fair, and the guys who work here are always so helpful and generous!
