Re: Chris McEachnie I bought my condo in 2005 and installed new flooring, light fixtures and painted it in its entirety. The kitchen was a thorn in my side and that breakfast bar and ugly countertop had to go. I love to cook and entertain and my kitchen was not a usable space well not for me anyway. More than two people cooking in the kitchen was painfully cramped and with sons (two grown men) it wasn't working. After years of complaining about it I wanted a dream kitchen but had a budget of $5,000 so decided on a kitchen facelift. I had all of these ideas but knew I had to restrain myself. I needed help. I started talking to friends and family about my plans to renovate my kitchen and what I heard were warnings: "It will take longer than you think" "It will cost thousands more than you think it" "There's no such thing as a contractor who comes in at the price of the estimate," and so on. Regardless, after 8 years of putting it off, I was determined to find someone who could help me with my small reno. I started phoning around people I knew and people they knew, but the attitude from most contractors was the job was too small, wasn't worth their time, by the time we get our equipment up there, well you get where I am going with this. I was getting a little down with the whole idea of renovating and thought I would take my money and go to Paris, until a friend of mine told me about her small kitchen reno. She told me to start looking at IKEA kitchen cabinets and so I went online and found this contractor in my area who used to install kitchen cabinets for IKEA. I had to start somewhere, so I called him and told him that I was looking at a small kitchen reno, but I desperately needed help and I was on a tight budget. Within 15 minutes Chris (McEachnie) was standing in my kitchen and the first thing he did was look at the unfinished crown molding and said.."That is the first thing that I will be doing, finishing that crown". Right then, I knew this guy was honest and that I could trust him. The next day, he and a subcontractor came over and we discussed my ideas and started to design a plan. In case you're starting to think this is going to turn into a "design disaster" story, guess again. We did it. Chris kept me on budget and worked hard to get the best deals on materials, granite countertop and labour. So what Chris did was, finish off the crown molding from the hallway and all around the kitchen and dining room. He rippped out the breakfast bar (he was extremely respectful and concerned about the dust so he made sure that I had minimal gyproc dust by taping the whole area with plastic sheet). The natural light that came into the kitchen after taking away the breakfast bar was amazing! He then reinforced the counter for the new granite countertop from Brazil (cost 2,000$ installed) He extended the counter 14 inches all around which is great for entertaining. New sink and faucet and a new light fixture and glass backsplash. I was out of a sink and water for a total of three hours. That in itself was quite a feat! He installed a stainless steel backsplash behind the stove to complement the stove and hood range. Chris also installed beadboard all around the base of the new countertop and finished it off by framing the beadbord. He also built a small cabinet at the end of the counter for pretty things and installed two massive pantries where the existing closets were and finished the front of the shelves off with white molding. I love love my pantries. In case you're wondering why I didn't do the cabinets, well, remember I only had 5000$ and they work. You don't need to spend a fortune on renos, especially if you find someone like Chris who will work with you , come up with ideas and keep you on budget. I am a very happy client!

About one year ago, GVRD replaced my house’s touch-on roof which is still under a 12-year warranty. In late October (2018), a piece of fascia board around the chimney fell off from the roof. I called Chris, the owner of GVRD Roofing, with my cellphone a couple times but no call was returned. Then I sent him a couple of SMSs and followed up with an email with a picture of the fallen fascia board a week later, and again there was no reply from him. I then called him from my land phone with its number blocked at the receiving end, and this time Chris answered my call and thought I was a new customer. I told him the problem, and he said that he would send someone to fix it next Monday. I sent him a reminder in the following Monday morning. I waited all day but no one from GVRD showed up. Due to the heavy raining was coming next day, I had to use whatever glue I have in my garage to attach the fallen fascia board back to the roof in that late afternoon. Afterward, I asked him to send someone to examine/fix the problem properly a few times, and finally he sent me a message that he would send someone to fix the problem. However, no one showed up again. I sent the last request to Chris on February 1st, 2019 and mentioned that if he doesn’t send his guy to fix the problem, I will write a review about this complain. No message returned from him before I post this review. If he doesn’t want to fix something broken within a year, what is a 12-year warranty for? (18 Mar 2019) Comments on Chris' response: 1. I received no message from you either from my answering machine, SMS or email. Shouldn't you let me know which date and what time your team member came when I was not home? 2. In a professional manner, isn't it a courtesy to inform your customer before going to his house so he will be there to wait for you? 3. Is this the way you deal with your customers for warranty/after-service works by communicating through Google Reviews? 4. Because the sheet metal was not done properly the first time, that was why it fell down. Under warranty, it should be repaired in the way you installed it before and you should not charge for the repair. Period. (24 April 2019) Two weeks ago, finally someone from GVRD came to resolve the problem. The roofer spent about 5 minutes to inspect the problem and applied proper sealant along the gap between the chimney and the sheet metal.

Had a missing vent cap cover on my roof that needed to be installed ASAP. Called them on a Sat, Dan showed up at the time he said he would Sunday morning. However I had not received a quote so there was some back and forth with Dan and his boss - they ended up quoting me something competitive to another quote I had received so I went ahead with having Dan proceed to add a new vent cap cover. While on the roof Dan identified my deteriorating roof caps and suggested I replace them soon to make the roof last longer. As well he helped me secure down other vent caps to avoid having them get dislodged. Overall Dan was professional and a good communicator. There was some mix up with the invoice afterwards with his boss Chris but it was quickly resolved and I am happy with their help last minute on a weekend.

Never again! Chris and his colleague replaced our old roof in Summer 2015. They charged us 14k while contracting the work to a sub contractor for 5k. They didn't pay the subcontractor and we were contacted by the subcontractor who threatened to put a lien on our house! It took a lot of call from us to make them pay the subcontractor. Now three years later, our roof has issues! I would never ever go to these people again. We paid them 13k at the end, because they did not all the items as it was written in the contract! We have both our visa statement and the cheque evidence. I spent hours to talk to the sub contractor to ask them not to put lien on us. They told us they have contacted two places that they did for GVRD within the same week! We would never recommend them to anyone!

Unfortunately, water was coming out of my smoke alarm after very heavy rainfall. After calling several roofing companies, I eventually found one that repaired metal roofs and that was GVRD Roofing. While my roof leak was a minor one, I appreciated that they tried their best to fix the problem as soon as they could considering how busy they were with other urgent projects. They came out the same day I called to assess the problem and the leak was quickly fixed 2 days later (luckily it wasn't raining during that period). All the staff I dealt with at GVRD Roofing were professional and courteous, and their pricing was reasonable. I would use them again and recommend them to family and friends!

We contracted GVRD to replace our existing roof after a fair estimate was quoted. The roofing crew was punctual, and completed the job at a very high standard. Chris and Warren were able to address any issues we had during the job- our concerns were resolved quickly. Engaged GVRD to resurface a rooftop deck. When the next rainy season arrived, we experienced very serious leaking in the kitchen below the deck with water sheeting down the interior window and leaking in several locations across the ceiling. Over the next 2 years, GVRD hacked away but failed to resolve the issue, resorting in the end to pointing figures elsewhere rather than accepting responsibility. Eventually, I engaged another contractor that successfully and professionally resurfaced the deck surface (identifying the faulty workmanship performed by GVRD) and then we had to make a homeowner's insurance claim to repair the interior damage that had ensued.

GVRD Roofing is a cut above other roofing companies. They were prompt, professional and reasonable in pricing the job. I required a torch on membrane for the extension of a new balcony. The job was done professionally and promptly with qualified trades doing the job. Also, I realized the previous roofer closed in all the ventilation when re - roofing. GVRD Roofing came up with "Ridge Venting" as the easiest and most cost effective solution. The work again was done, promptly and professionally and they cleaned up the site of all debris. I would have no hesitation in recommending GVRD Roofing for all your roofing, membrane and gutter needs.

Chris was very friendly and professional, he came the same day I called him, because our office had some serious leaking from the roof area. He came by later that day and inspected the area by letting me know some possible causes to the leakage and on how to repairing it. Since the problem is the responsibility of the property management company our office is leasing from, they had their own contracted roofing team to fix everything. After I explained to Chris, he was super understating and didn't even charge us for the inspection. If there is anything happen in the future, our company would totally call him first.

Called GVRD Roofing for an emergency repair. They said they would send someone to put a tarp over the roof but nobody showed up a day and a half later. We called three more times during the time and were promised that evening, first thing in the morning, someone was on their way, within 2 hours, none of which were fulfilled. We had to scramble to find someone else to get the roof covered before the next rain storm that night.
