This is the worst hire of my life. I used this Co as their car looks great on the website. They dont have payment online and instead ask you to provide the credit car number . I accepted that and after payment I locked internet banking. I deposited 200$ for a three day hire at 100$/day for the Tarago (pictured near new). Then when I came to there office to sign contract and asked to reduce the hire to 2 days due to circumstance change but they refused and said I either hired three days or lose the deposit. I reluctantly accepted as I already planned my trip. Then I asked to see the car but Debbie refused and asked me to sign the three day contract. Again reluctantly accepted / signed then she hiked rate to 110$/day saying 10% tax. But she did not say that before and the website also said 100$/day. Oh she also imposed 200km/day limit on the contract. Then asked me to pay the remaining rental of three day hire. I said I will pay after I complete the hire as I may return in 2 days. I rented before in Brissy and pay the remainging upon completion. I said Ok but I may return early. When I finally saw the car it was built in 2003 and all front lights cover is blurred I dared not drive at night. When I return the car after 2 days ( already inform her at the end of day 1) at 4:43pm the office was closed while closing time is 5pm I had to ask neighbour company to keep the key and give them the next day. I write mail to ask for money back saying they are cheats due to above reasons. They threaten me to contact police. I still keep all the contract and evidence of old 2003 Tarago and time I returned car. Do you guys think I should take legal action again them to get money back. It is not the money it is the manner they coerced you to signed contract or they take your deposit? This is nightmare experience for me.

Worst dealing. I will not recommend this rentals to hire a car. Please make sure you have all the proper documents otherwise the lady Debbie running this rentals is super duper Greedy. She will charge you for unnecessary things. Please take all the pictures from inside and outside the car. Except rent she will continue to charge over other things. Very polite at the time of giving car at start. And after signing a contract you can get behavioral harassment. Very bad experience. I got too much harassment. I still have all the documents of car and dent repaur document and video of car I returned. I was new to Australia. She was institing to repair car from her own mechanic just for minor dent of 5 -6 cms she was asking for $990. Conceal?She is talking about. GOD SEE EVERYTHING SHE WILL FACE KARMA SOON. SHE DONT HAVE ANYTHING FOR QCAT. IF I WILL TAKE MY PAPERS TO COURT SHE WILL GET A BIG PENALTY. Don't pay cash to her as her daily rent please.

Good service but unexpected extra charges We rented a car from Cairns returning to Brisbane from Getaway Auto Rental in october 2018. Debbie is very nice and helped us extending our rental. However we were surprised to get extra fees due to supposed damages on a backmirror that we haven't done. The backmirror was already broken (it was not holding vertically anymore) and fixed by a strap when we took the car, which we thought was normal. However we discovered that we had to pay for a new one when giving back the car. Also we were asked to pay for a new wheel  trim as one was damaged but hopefully we had a picture proving that it was already the case when we took the car. We were also surprised to pay for an extra day which was not originally mentioned. Indeed, we gave back the car on Tuesday but we learned, after asking for price details, that as we arrived at 5:15pm which is out of the office hours we had to pay for the next day.

Debbie has been fantastic when we have hired a car from Gateway Auto Rentals. Because we have been hiring from them for a number of years now all we do is let her know when we are coming over and for how long all by emails and Debbie is really quick in answering and confirming these. We have had a couple of times where we have had to cancel at the last minute and Debbie has been absolutely fabulous about ensuring that there is no hassles associated with the late cancellation and ensuring that we are sorted for the next time. We have actually got a standard booking with Gateway for four times a year and the same car as we requested is always ready to go. Debbie or her husband always met us at the airport with the car and they always have a genuine smile on their faces, which is great to see after just over a three hour plane trip. We use Gateway auto rentals on a regular basis if we need a ‘back up car’ as we only have 1 car in the family. As we live locally, Gateway Auto Rentals is super convenient for us. Debbie is always friendly, super responsive and flexible. We rented a car and due to the floods (end Feb) I got stuck on the Sunshine Coast, Debbie was super flexible with us returning the car late. The cars are not new but in decent condition and this is reflected in the very reasonable rental price. If you prefer renting (near) new cars, this is not the place for you. But if you are looking for a reasonably priced and convenient car hire… give Debbie a call and she’ll be happy to assist! Update... They do have newer cars available.... :)

Disappointed - would be an understatement. I am weighing up my options, and considering reporting them to the ACCC. I paid $100 a day for this 20 year old vehicle, questionable if roadworthy, sagging drivers seatbelt of most concern, missing part under the bonnet, faded head lights, corroded, quoted one price per day yet charged another - in a sneaky and deceptive way - she knew full well what she was doing at the reception desk - and did it anyway - it's called fraud - dishonestly gaining a benefit or advantage. $100 credit card hold charged to card and not refunded - i had to phone them a month later to demand the $100 back. If I could give them zero stars out of five I would . . .

There are the good companies and there are the great companies like this. Family members and myself have been using Gateway Auto Rentals for more than 20 years. We keep going back to Deb because the service is fantastic. It doesn't matter what predicament I am in, they go out of their way to do the best they can to help. The cars are always in good condition, they are always friendly, the hire prices are terrific, and both Deb and Neville are efficient to a tee. Thanks Deb for looking after us all, time and again. And thanks too for the sense of humour and understanding the need for efficient air-conditioning in the Brisbane weather !! 20/10 rating for all aspects of your service.

I highly recommend Getaway Auto Rentals! Debbie the manager/owner is always willing to provide her clients a personalised service and great deals. I had an outstanding experience renting some cars with Getaway Auto Rentals on December 2020. By the summer holidays peak time, I wasn't able to hire any affordable vehicle with the biggest companies, but they provided me very well maintained vehicles with the best value that I could have had. I've never had any issue with them. They were always very professional in terms of punctuality, vehicle cleanliness and mechanical conditions, invoicing and vehicle inspecting.

Unfortunately we had a very bad experience renting a Toyota Tarago people mover. Left side sliding door keeps opening whilst driving and the warning open door light was not on. We had to stop three times on the road to close it again in a 40 min drive. Even worse, when returning the car this morning, the owner told me "he already knew" about this issue and that they already have tried to repair it in five occasions unsuccessfully. I just wish I knew that BEFORE sitting four children in! Very bad experience and definitely I do not recommend renting this people mover.

Thanks Debbie. We have hired cars off you three or four times now for our Gold Coast and Sunshine Coast trips. You are easy to deal with and make the whole thing very stress free. From the moment we send the first email requesting the hiring of cars right to the end when we drop them back. You are always there waiting for us when we arrive and the whole process is quick and has us on the road to our final destination in no time. Always handy when you've got tired kids in tow who just want to get to their hotel and hit the beach! Thanks heaps!

We rented the tarago for 12 days this year. The rates we were quoted were competitive however when the charges came through on our credit card there was an additional 10% for VAT which was not included in the quote. The vehicle is old (2003) but tidy. We also rented (and were charged) 3 x car seats however were disappointed to be given one seat which was 25 years old, and 2 which were 11 years old and the centre seat was missing the locking clip. We didn't use them for the hire.

We have been renting vehicles from Debbie for over 8 years now. We have had excellent service always. The cars are ready waiting for us at the airport to drive away and we just lock the keys in the boot when returning. All this is done via emails. No hassles with filling out forms, inspecting scratches etc and waiting in line to return and pay for the rental. We look forward to renting vehicles from Debbie in the next 8 years.

Great service from Debbie and the Gateway team. Rented a car for 7 days on our recent Gold Coast holiday from New Zealand. Late evening airport pick up and early morning drop off was made easy with clear instructions. The price was several hundred dollars less than quoted by a couple of the big name rental companies and certainly the best by far for a car that was modern, clean and suited our family of 5 well.

I can't recommend these guys highly enough. Debbie is so easy to work with , nothing is a problem. The car was immaculate and instructions around pick up were very clear.Even if you did get confused Debbie is only a phone call away, On return of car Debbie was in contact and made it as easy as possible to return the car. Despite the fact that the car needed a wheel balance and shook all the way to the gold coast and back. I didnt appreciate the personal coment towards myself from Debbie the owner about how I looked better on my licence because I had since lost weight. I paid to hire a car not a personal opinion on my appearance so please keep you opinion to your self in future. The car got me where I needed to go.

Highly recommend. I rented a small cheap vehicle and was very satisfied. Customer service was great, vehicle was extremely clean (when I picked it up ) very reliable and economical. Obviously it wasn’t the newest and greatest vehicle but the price represented that. Very happy with my experience with Gateway Auto rentals and would use them again without hesitation if needed. Rude, moody and obnoxious woman! Read the reviews - she will reply and deny you’re a real customer, or pretend her replies are from an ‘external reviewer of reviews’, or otherwise come up with a false reason to make the customer look bad. Read between the lines and go elsewhere for a cheaper option with better customer service like Uber Carshare!

The lady on phone was so rude and terrible. Pathetic and awful customer service. She was commenting on my english. I called to hire a car, not to enroll for an english course. She don't have any right to do so. I was recommended by my friend but I’ll never recommend this rental to anyone. This is the first time I’m writing a negative review.

Disappointing service. We reached out to Debbie who was quite rude and extremely unhelpful. Did not even bother to provide a quote, simply said she has too busy so to contact once we arrive to Brisbane. What car rental does not allow reservations, especially when looking to secure a car on December, the busiest time of the year?

The woman on the phone was so abrupt and rude, "what does okay mean?" when I was paused even a moment to think, and "why do you need so long to think about this?" when I wanted to clarify what kind of drivers license I needed and credit card.

Very bad service, worst customer service. They never show their km policy before renting the car, we were advise after the service and had to pay extra for driving more than 100km per day. The car had many roaches when we took it from the parking area at the airport.

Charged tolls on my card a month after the rental.Nightmare trying to get them, QMM to remove my card from the car rego of THEIR vehicle. Car was not roadworthy and very dangerous with loose mirrors and cheap slipy tyres, worn clutch and overadjusted brakes.
