They are bot a bank. They have the word in their title but they don't offer any of the same services. The products they offer are not equal to actual banks like rbc ect. The loan has protections in it that won't let you make a large payment like 10k and then have the payments readjusted. They don't make it easy to differ a payment. And their customer service is way below par. Expect no call backs for days. They have only one branch. And they use the title of bank real loosely. Be very cautious of a dealer ship that offers this bank to you instead of an actual bank. They only do car loans and plane loans. So you can't consolidate with them or anything other than make them money. The outstanding balance they say isn't the actual amount to clear the loan. Because they have provisions in the loan that guarantee their interest
This Bank is absolutely amazing. They work out of Edmonton and the customer service is excellent. I spoke to Byron, and he was so nice, kind, pleasant, accomodating and professional. He mentioned they can provide same day service email, for my statement payout to end my loan. They can provide within seconds your balance amount owing, 19 days, prior in advance to payout, as per my personal request. Some banks have to manually calculate themselves, the advanced amount, or at least it seems that way, because they put you on hold for 5 to 10 minutes to get an answer. This bank seems to be very organized. Also you don't have to wait hours on the phone, trying to talk to a customer service representative. I will miss their great service, and it has been a great pleasure dealing with them. Check them out..., Thankyou, Annie.
Due to a fraud alert on my account, I was struggling to get a bank to get my car loan sorted quickly. The General Bank of Canada was the only bank to work efficiently with the car dealership to get me the loan I needed. Whenever I've emailed the General Bank of Canada requesting information, they have responded quickly. The website is easy to use to check your balance. I was able to make additional bill payments simply through my personal chequing account. The only slight downside is that they're only available to call during working hours, but despite this they'd return calls or emails as soon as they return to the office. Honestly, I was concerned about using a bank I had never heard of, but everything went smoothly over the last 3.5 years. If anything, they gave more personalized care than the larger banks.
GBC is pretty straight forward. I had to speak with them to set up my account and had some questions about the process of payout. Theres no charge on early payouts which is great. However, the person i spoke to on the phone when i first set up my account seemed to a bit unprofessional ( he was in a rush to hang up, his answers were very broad) I had to call a second time to ask the same questions and luckily i got a very nice lady named Denise (sorry if i misheard it or misspelled) She was VERY Professional and i could tell she would update my profile and write notes down so i wouldn’t have to explain or ask anything. Thank you Denise for being professional and helpful. 5/5 for her customer service and being very informative.
Their customer service phone number went to voicemail over and over. When I went to leave a message it said they would return my call within “48 business hours” so 6 business days to get a call back. So instead I called their dealership line and wouldn’t you know, someone picked up the phone immediately. They were very kind and got me connected with a customer service representative within 10 minutes. If my concern wasn’t as urgent as it was I wouldn’t mind waiting but I’m sure when dealing with a loan brokerage, most concerns are urgent. Perhaps GBC should put more value in the customers they already have rather than that customers they want to acquire. I shouldn’t have to cheat the system to get someone on the phone...
They don't even deserve a star. If you can avoid getting a loan from here I would. I got a car loan and then recently got a new vehicle so the dealership was paying off the rest of the loan. I spoke with Robyn and explained everything. She was told not only by me but the dealership to stop the payments. I also told my RBC bank to stop payments. So when it came to the day where my usual payments came out the general bank changed there name so that they could steal money out of my account. I am frustrated beyond words. Who does that. It should be illegal. I will be reporting this to many people and doing whatever I can to make sure this doesn't happen again to anyone else.
If you're getting a car loan through them, probably best to go with a bank that has more than 45 employees listed on their LinkedIn. Some of the folks here are very kind, but unfortunately, the organization doesn't seem to think response times are relevant as I've called in over 19 times in the past 14 days and every. single. time. have reached a voicemail. No direct lines to call back - so if you're paying out any loans, get ready for a 2 week ordeal :) But other than that, when they do call back - super kind folks, they're just way over whelmed with volumes during this time.
Very professional staff at General Bank. It took less than a couple hours total from receipt of my email request to completion of a couple of requests for me. They had sent an email asking me to verify some security questions and due my being distracted I hadn't seen the email until about an hour later. Surprisingly, they called me to ask the questions, they verified fully I was authorized without being unreasonable at all. Completely friendly and professional. Far superior service than I receive from my main bank (Scotiabank) ever. That is a legit 5 stars. Thanks again!
I emailed on a weekend asking for changes to my payment amount and debiting institution. Maureen replied first thing Monday, April 9th and explained what was needed, very clear about some specific instructions. I got it all sorted and the changes were made before noon! I live in a place where service is below abysmal so when I receive efficient and friendly service I'm usually thankful. But when it comes to money, nerves come into play, and Maureen made the whole thing so easy. Thanks so much for your assistance, your customer service team has always been so great.
General Bank of Canada has been excellent to deal with. Maureen has gone above and beyond what i expected from a bank. She returned my calls and email promptly. She has helped me in every way she could dealing with the loss of my vehicle and making sure my gap insurance covered the rest of my loan that my insurance company did not. I financed my car through General Bank Canada. Best experience ever. It took them 2 business days to fully payout my loan when requested (another FI I dealt with in the past took 2 weeks). Service was super prompt, and proferssional. You can easily reach out to them via email. I always got my reply within 24 hours, or less. Sometimes even within an hour or so. Very happy with the service, and will definitely recommand my friends and family to finance their cars from them! Keep it up!
Not an everyday banking customer, but I've had experience with this bank concerning over-the-phone service and car loans. I've found them to be very helpful and to-the-point: They haven't tried to upsell me on any credit cards or plans, or otherwise do anything except help me with what I've called about. Always polite and knowledgeable, and I've never had a phone call last longer than 2 minutes. Shout-out to Finch in the call office, that was an excellent client interaction.
I am from another FI and phoned in to help my client get confirmation that a loan was paid out back in Feb 2020. Faye took my call and was absolutely wonderful. She created a seamless experience, and while she was unable to give me information directly, she was able to assist my client immediately while respecting confidentiality thinking outside of the box. I have dealt with many banks in the past,, these folks by far are the best bank i have ever dealt with. I was able to do all my account changes thru email - as i live a province away. This bank held my last car loan. The rare time I needed to make a phone call, the phone was answered promptly. My questions/concerns were always addressed efficiently and professionally. Good borrowing rate as well. When times were tough during Covid, they were understanding and immediately deferred my loan for 3 months without question. Probably the only time I'll review a bank, which is truly saying something.
The bank is very easy to deal with and also to get a hold of. This is our first dealing with General Bank and they replied to our emails almost immediately, resolving our issues setting up our online account access. An excellent resource if your credit is less than perfect. They will finance an older vehicle that the major banks will not but the interest rate will of course be a bit higher.
I received top shelf customer service in every way. Messages were returned promptly, and with supporting documentation. Every person that I spoke with was knowledgable, friendly and efficient. Emails were returned immediately and everything that I asked was explained in a thorough manner. I highly recommend the General Bank of Canada and would deal with them again in a heartbeat!

I have an auto loan through this bank, they are too difficult to get ahold of. When I call I get a voice mail that they will call back, that’s a major inconvenience for me because I am calling because that’s when I have time to talk I don’t want to be called later when I’m busy. My next auto loan I will tell my dealership I will not deal with this bank
This is my second vehicle loan through the General Bank of Canada. Not only is my interest low, but after running into some financial difficulties halfway through my loan they were more than willing to work with me on having my payment dates changed to accommodate my new financial situation. This is extremely helpful in a very stressful time.
Keeps Calling My Number after numerous requests to remove the number I have informed them multiple times that that number is not and has not been for at least 8 years connected to there client Based on The lack of action and complete lack of understanding of this situation I wouldn't advise doing business with this company!
Very concerned about the level of customer service. I have tried calling several times only to be directed to an automated system telling me someone will try and get back to me in 3 days? and this isn't the first time this has happened. Frustrating and disappointing that the level of respect for their clients is this low.
Horrible company to deal with , completely ignorant and discriminating. Avoid this place at all costs. They wont approve a finance transfer because they want the owner to default so they can repo. Absolutely dirty tactics . they also claimed only a spouse could cosign for me which is a lie.... …
This bank has questionable business practices. Prequalifying people for loans without all of an applicants information while working with shady dealerships that fraud paperwork. When negotiating agreements, not all the restrictions are disclosed. I will never use them again and will continue to warn others.
My interaction was very quickly handled and resolved. My only complaint was that I had to phone customer service in order to find the email of the department I needed vs finding it listed online. Though the women in customer service was very nice and gave me all the information I needed.
It has great service but when I called they had to call back in a hour or so and I was already out getting things done.They are awesome to deal with just wish when I had everything out and organized I could of got a person immediately. I do recommend them for car loans for sure though.
As a new client of General Bank of Canada, the onboarding process with the Customer Care Department was seamless. The customer care representative I dealt with was able to answer all of my questions, was very knowledgeable about General Bank's systems, and pleasant to deal with.

Once my vehicle loan is completely paid off I will never do business with this bank again. I have had an absolutely terrible experience dealing with this Bank. I can understand the backlog from the most recent events but it wouldn't kill you to answer the phone at least once.
Outstanding customer service and short wait times on the phone which is a miracle nowadays since everybody is always experiencing a higher than usual call volume. Plus an immediate reply via email that our request was taken care of. All this within 5 minutes - way to go!!
Honestly, some of the best service i've recieved, from either a smaller lender, or a big 6 bank. I would 100% recommend them. they're quick to reply with whatever you need, extremely polite, and just generally offer fantastic service. 5/5 , would borrow from again.
I called twice to pay out my loan and get a letter of release and it was way easier than I thought. It was fast and both people I talked to were professional and helped me quickly and were clear in their instructions as to what to do and what to expect. Impressed!
We've had a vehicle loan with GBC for the past 3 years and they've been amazing to interact with when I needed information or help. They generally respond by email within half an hour (sometimes within minutes) and have always been courteous and helpful.

Late in the day customer and I needed a confirmed lien pay out, I had an email copy in under 10 minutes and got the customer rolling . Also really enjoy dealing with their lenders ! They know their credit and terms on older are a bonus

terrible, was looking for my loan balance, i have been sitting on hold for over 30 minutes, while the prompt keeps telling me I am caller number 1 in line. just tell me your never picking up and at least i would have some closure
I dealt with General Bank purely by email. They were incredibly attentive in their response times and were so helpful with all questions I had. They legitimately made everything SO easy. 10/10 would borrow money from them again.
