Ghatkopar in the 1920s was a village ringed by creeks and salt pans. It was administered by a municipal council led by a Collector of the Suburban District. It became part of Greater Bombay in 1945. There are many interpretations to how Ghatkopar got its name. Some say it refers to the hill range tapering off at Thane, "Ghat ke oopar", which roughly means "on top of hill". Others believe the name is derived from the Marathi word for "corner" of the Western Ghats- "Kopara", therefore, Ghat-kopara. The names given to roads in Ghatkopar offer an interesting peek into its recent history. It has roads like Nowrojee Lane for Nowrojee Sheth, Cama Lane after Lady Cama, Hingwala Lane after a family dealing with asafoetida.

The western side of Ghatkopar station is connected with the Ghatkopar metro station through a skywalk With Mumbai Metro connecting Ghatkopar to its Western suburb cousin Andheri, and the freeway connecting it to Bandra, the real estate prices here have zoomed. Resident Mithilesh Rajput says, “Infrastructure has been a big plus in Ghatkopar for the last few years. The Mumbai Metro and new flyover have made travel much easier for commuters to and from Ghatkopar within and outside as well. But the traffic has increased parking issues. The hawkers make matters worse by encroaching on the roads as well as the footpaths.”

Good station . It is connected to metro as well as the central railway. Most populous during rush hours. But there should be police and security officials during rush hours at Ghatkopar RAILWAY STATION and not merely metro. The worst part is people climb, push and does not even let to get out of local train. At least they should make some space to let people leave and then board .This type of rush results into accident and mishaps sometimes even death . People should understand that , LIFE IS MORE IMPORTANT...The management should look after this it's a SERIOUS PROBLEM that is connected to our daily lives...

The place is well connected via BEST buses and Ghatkopar Metro Station. Fast trains running to and from CST also halt here and is spacious enough to accommodate huge number of people with various foot over bridges . The problem with the place is the ticketing counter which is too small and few compared to the huge audience it sees on a daily basis. Also, the staff is always not on their counter which creates trouble for travellers.

Ghatkopar is the 5th Main Rail Station after Kurla being the 4th Main Rail Station on Central Line. Only 3 Slow Trains originate from Platform 1 for CSMT from Ghatkopar. Platform 1 provides Slow Train services & Platform 3 provides Fast Train services towards Khopoli & Kasara Routes. Platform 2 provides Slow Train services & Platform 4 provides Fast Train services for CSMT. Few Fast Trains don't halt at this Rail Station.

Ghatkopar railway station is only station at central line that has metro station nearby (vivo ghatkopar metro station). Usually it was moderately crowded, but you can see immensely crowded since arrival of metro. All fast and slow locals halt here and this station has four flatforms. West side has good connectivity, as it is near to LBS road and you can find auto rickshaws and frequent B.E.S.T. buses!

Residential and moderately commercial place. One of best residential places to live. One of the best food hotspot in the city. Widely abundant medical services across the suburb. Transport hub with a network connecting every corner of the city. Slightly higher traffic on the main roads, but overall moderate to low traffic. Mostly mixed community with a Gujarati and Marathi speaking majority.

Another major station in the city connecting all of the cities important transport lines like the Mumbai Metro One and the Central railways. Also it connects the Lal Bhadur Shastri Marg (LBS Marg) with the Eastern Express Highway of the city so anyone looking to go from one end of the city to another... Ghatkopar provides decent better routes which are hassle free and fast.

This station comes under the central railways. The main advantage is that the metro connectivity that strat from here to Andheri in every 10 min in peak time and 20 min in other times. It also have a better frequency of trains between the other stations. Good infrastructure and well maintained too....! The feeder service also doing a great work as in all other stations

These area is also known as heart of central mumbai many would argue about dadar been the center but actually for common public like myself we believe ghatkopar is the heart of Mumbai city no mattr which mode of transportation you choose everything is available here it is one of the center points in which is half an hour to kalyan and same to cst the main station.

  • Vinita Chowdhary

Station area is very crowded rikshaw stand and bus stand is available here and metro station is attached to station so crowd flow is common here. Traffic jam found to reach ghatkopar station and during general shift times metros are also full and long queue is found at station. There is no option to skip the crowd. Only sometimes during Afternoon crowd is less.

I visited ghatkopar at the busiest time of day, it was bursting with people but it is really good palace to shop anything you want you will get there you just need to search for the right place for vegetables you can go opposite bhau vadapav and must try that ..there are many things I won't be able to write everything just go and check out by your own

  • Sanjay Mote

This an important junction from where you get metro to travel to Varsova via Andheri. Metro station is excellent and well maintained but the Railway station is exactly opposite of it. Most of the things are very old and layout is without any architects touch. No aesthetic factor is kept is mind while doing expansions and renovations. All mix up.

  • Sagar Yangaldas

Station has all required public facilities like escalators, lifts, stairs, connectivity Bridges and Hygienic Toilets. The station has help desk with good number of security people to handle crowd. Most of the time the station is Clean even after thousands of people traveling through the station. Station is connected with metro station.

  • Sid Misra

Busiest Railway Station in Mumbai. Railway Management should work on smart strategy with alternatives to make it convenient for the commuters. It's almost impossible for the families to board the train in peak hours, especially one with the small kids. Best addition to the Metro Railway service You can explore western lines area

This is a duel railway station. Basically it's a Central Railways local railway station and now it's also a Metro railways station in Mumbai. Most of the fast local trains halt here. It's presently a terminal for Metro railways network. From here one can go to International as well as Domestic airports.

  • sahil vasa

Nice platform it is. I have visited it for the first-time and felt like it is maintained well apart from the city inside which is about crowd and have a space for Gujarati crowd more the roads needs to be wider and flat. Thankfully rickshaws are available here whereas there was on richshaw in Matunga.
