Glass Bookshop is such a brilliant, MUCH-NEEDED space in Edmonton! Jason and Matthew are so warm and welcoming; even when I don't feel like leaving the house (or can't!), I always want to visit the shop and see their smiling faces and hear about their latest book recommendations or literary events. Along with the safe space Glass Bookshop holds for me, I can trust that anything I purchase from this finely-curated shop has been vetted with the utmost care, informed-intellect, and compassion. The Glass Bookshop inventory speaks for itself bursting with writerly brilliance featuring Indigenous writers, Black writers, Writers of Colour, and 2SQUILTBAG writers as well as local or independent writers and publishers. I cannot say enough good about this darling shop and its value as an inimitable community resource. Highly recommend! Read any single one (or more!) thing from them!

Never had a bad experience coming here. The Glass Bookshop crew are all so friendly and knowledgable, especially if you don't know what to read next; they are always full of great questions to tailor their recommendations! I also love the GB book club. I've only managed to attend one virtually, but the facilitation and inclusion was wonderful. I can't wait til I can get to another! (Life just keeps *happening*.) They are dog friendly, and easy to navigate. On a Sunday afternoon when it's quiet, it's the dreamiest place to browse. Finally, I also want to speak to the special requests service. If there's a title not already in their catalogue, Julie is great at ordering in whatever you're looking for with a quick email to the shop! Never fret about trying to find books on your own again, the GB babes have got you :)

This is my favourite bookstore in Edmonton. The employees are actually readers who are passionate about books. The selection they carry is unique and carefully curated so you can discover something incredible you’d never find at a chain store. I’ve also attended one of their book club meetings which was full of excellent questions and conversation. Their selection is much smaller than the big chain bookstore (which shall not be named) but everything in the Glass Bookshop is magical and amazing. They are connected to an art gallery and also have a bar/cafe/patio that is often open. Art, coffee, books and a patio…what more could you ask for?

A wonderful local bookshop! The staff is always really friendly and happy to give recommendations! The vibe of the place is inclusive, unique, and full of book lovers. They have a children's section, too! If you order online, it's really easy to arrange an in store pickup OR if you live locally, then delivery is free. In store, they also carry some stickers, totes, pins, handmade jewelry, etc. It feels great to shop locally, and I would absolutely recommend them. They are also in a great location - surrounded by a coffee & donut shop! So that makes for a great afternoon :)

10/10!!! I ordered online and I had an amazing experience from start to finish. The website is set up in such a nice way, it was so easy to find new books to read and the selection was huge. The thought put into each step was very evident, from the delivery email to the packaging details. I loved the pamphlet that was included ( "Here's what your support means") and the little bookmark (its so cute)! I will definitely be placing more orders, considering a lot of the books I'd buy from Indigo are also carried here and can't wait to shop in store soon too!

I was in this beautiful store last week picking up my 2023 advent short story collection and while I was there I picked up two other books that I had no previous knowledge of, and both were thought provoking, honest and far from mainstream. I love this little bookshop for its eclectic collection, especially of poetry. The staff is always so lovely and helpful. My only wish is that they had a big comfy chair that I could sit in and pour over the pile of books that I pull! It’s perfection in a local bookstore.

I wandered into the store the first time on a whim, but after that every visit was intentional. Jason was friendly and helpful and special-ordered a book I'd been looking for all over (everywhere else simply said it wasn't available). Since the virus has come along, they've been a lifeline for getting books ... and delivering right to my building. They're so friendly and caring, that shows even in their emails. I look forward to post-Covid days and being able to support them in person.

I’m so delighted to have access to a book store that is local and so responsive to customers. The shop carries everything I’m looking for and, if they don’t, they special order for me and bring it right to my door. I don’t know why anyone would want to shop in an impersonal box store when you can get the most caring, convenient, knowledgeable service from members of your community. Matthew and Jason are friendly and reliable, and I wouldn’t dream of shopping anywhere else.

  • Kelsey Purcell

Jason and Matthew have created such a gem in the community. Whether I'm visiting their physical space or following along on social media, Jason and Matthew are super engaging, and they are always happy to give a vast array of book recommendations to suit all sorts of tastes. I love that they mindfully curate their inventory to bring to the spotlight books and authors that I'm not familiar with. I always have an ever-expanding "to be read" list after a chat with them.

  • Lena Bou

Love this place! I don't know where to start, the staff are phenomenal, super friendly and helpful. They helped me find a book by just describing a few details about it. I'm March I'd heard of a book that I really wanted but it was on pre-order and I could only find the UK release of the book online. I emailed and asked if they could pre-order it for me and they did! I just really love this place. The hours can sometimes be tricky but they also deliver!!

  • Cecilia Latorre

Everything about Glass Bookshop is remarkable! Their concept is progressive and amazing. Their book selection is phenomenal and their online page is easy to navigate. They deliver! They send a personalized email advising when and they will come and that they are following social distanced protocols. Extra love. Also their storefront was a beautiful space. Thank you, Jason and Co. for being in our community and all you both do for YEG.

  • leah baptiste

thought i’d show some love for my favourite bookshop! glass is the place to go for any book lover, they host great events, and i’ve heard awesome things about their book club. glass is a wonderful part of the ritchie neighbourhood, and the larger community. also their service is top-notch and they are always ready to help you find exactly what you’re looking for (and then some)!

  • Daria H

I would highly recommend shopping here first before shopping online or at a big bookstore chain. Currently they will deliver to your door and their online shop is easy to use! An amazing part of the community striving to highlight voices of writers and artists often under represented in your typical bookshop. Love them and they deserve lots of love from our city and community!

  • Lisa Kercher

After I placed my special order, my book arrived in store much faster than I could have hoped. I got a lovely email from Jason confirming they would be delivering my book, and asking if I had any special instructions. Then the next day a very nice person, dropped my book right at my door. Excellent service, excellent selection. So grateful to have these folks in Edmonton.

This is exactly the type of shop our fair city needs. Glass Bookshop is clearly committed to providing a curated array of high quality reads (lots of lit by LGBT2S/QTPOC authors), as well as making arts/literature more accessible to anybody who might pass by their storefront. They also made the effort to order in a self-published book, which is highly appreciated.

  • Micheline Lantain (TheLastTriffid)

Quiet and beautiful little bookshop. A lot of the titles are quite confronting and are focused on helping people to learn, as well as reevaluate and expand their understanding of the world we live in and how it operates. Perfect if you are looking for a title to challenge you and help you grow. Staff was friendly and helpful, and store was clean and comfortable.

  • Brittney Le Blanc

Jason and Matthew are fantastic supporters of reading, fine books, and local authors. If you’re looking for a new favourite book, come and get a suggestion from them. The shop focuses on Canadian authors and especially on queer/POC stories, which means you will most likely be exposed to new authors, experiences, and perspectives. Absolutely worth visiting!

  • Aimee Kennedy

I don’t usually leave reviews, but these guys are awesome! I waited a little too long to order my books for school and they seriously delivered the books within two days of ordering… with Amazon it would have taken almost a month to deliver. They’re also super nice. I’ll definitely be going with this awesome business over Jeff Bezos in the future!

  • Autumn Schnell

I always try to order my class books/required texts from here, as well as any personal reads and gifts. They are so kind, they add little details that feels really special and personal. The website is easy to manoeuvre, they offer free delivery in Edmonton and surrounding areas, and the delivery is simple and prompt. I will order from here again!

  • M

Wonderful book store that serves quality over quantity. You can tell their collection is curated with love. Customer service is friendly and organic. I always walk out with a recommendation and an urge to stay and talk. Their website is great to search for new material like horror and lgbtq fiction and poetry. The staff picks are also thoughtful

  • Emma Crandell

The experience of purchasing books from Glass Bookshop is so warm and personal. From being in their lovely shop to free delivery, it's always like having a coffee with an old friend. Their focus on the LGBTQ2SIA and IBPOC community is so important as a personal value and an offering to the world. Thank you for all that you do!

  • Odion Welch

I had the pleasure of stumbling upon Glass Bookshop and the owner Jason today. The store is sooooo cute and true to supporting local diversity. Take some time to chat with the owners as they have a super interesting literary background! They know all the back stories behind the local products they curate and more!

  • Sylvia Douglas (Dougie Creative)

The Glass Bookshop the local bookshop for local writing with an emphasis on LGBTQ2SIA and IBPOC writers. They have knowledgeable staff and a wide variety of titles readily available or for special order. They send useful and relevant newsletters with new releases, events, and community news. I just love this shop!

  • Emily Hoven

Jason and Matthew are the BEST! They've created a beautiful space filled with such thoughtfully curated selections. I love the way they give so much shelf-space to queer and BIPOC writers, and how committed they are to bringing in titles from independent presses--I always leave with something I can't wait to read!

  • Rita Neyer, PhD

Expect excellent customer service and consultation on everything local, indigenous, queer, and niche. This place takes the concept of curation to the next (and appropriate) level. They have extensive sections on poetry, fiction, and nonfiction, plus a fine selection of designer decorations and candles.

  • Lindsay Schultz

I’ve ordered a few books and gift cards from here & their delivery time is comparable to Amazon Prime (super fast). Their selection is excellent and priced similar to indigo/coles. Definitely recommend this location business as they have the same perks as bigger companies without the corporate greed

  • Lisa Marshall

It was a humble bookshop, which I now like. Unlike other book stores with more than hundreds of books available, their selection was quite little but their available books were apparently of nice quality so I gave it a shot and bought one, I finished reading it last weekend and it was great!

  • Kennedy Jones

My experience was great! Online ordering was super easy, my delivery was fast and they made sure to check with me about where to leave the order. Great student discount if you;re buying books for school and I was very grateful to receive a giftcard to use the next time I shop with them!

  • Shane Breau

Jason and Matthew from Glass Bookshop are a delight to deal with. They do more than sell books, they have extensive knowledge and insight into what's current and what matters. I can't say enough good things about these two. Check out Glass Bookshop for all your reading needs and more!

  • Kitiara Rhem

Got some books delivered and I was impressed with their customer service and communication. Books arrived quickly and safely and in accordance with my instructions. All interactions with staff and such have been super positive and left me with a smile. Can't wait to do my next order!

  • Jaye Garcia

Honestly one of the best independent book shops in the country. The shopkeepers know their stuff and make the opportunity to focus on Canadian writing with special attention paid to LGBTQ2SIA and IBPOC writers a reality. Really grateful for this place's existence in our community!

  • Iliana Turner

Glass Bookshop is by far my favourite bookstore in Edmonton. They have such a thoughtfully curated selection of books featuring IBPOC and LGBTQ2SIA authors, as well as many (local) independent publishers. Jason and Mathew have never steered me wrong with their recommendations!

  • Hari Khalsa

Cute little shop right next to an ice cream store? Yes, please! Seems to specialize in local and Canadian authors with the ability to order anything you want. Adorable kids section in the back and I quickly found an interesting title for myself with their super clean layout.

  • Nathasia Yazon

Ordered a book from them that got delivered so fast! The packaging and the leaflets inside made it seem so personal. I unfortunately received a misprint, but Matt responded quickly and did the exchange the next day! Amazing bookshop and employees. Thank you guys so much! :)

  • Frances Finley

I found it strange that I had an account for the store set up before I made my first purchase, which makes me wonder where this information was obtained from. The items are very specialized and would probably most appeal to people who identify as Queer and/or Millenial.

  • Benita Hartwell

Great, well curated bookstore. Any time I have popped by, I always find interesting titles I have never heard of, but definitely want to read. I haven't been to their new location yet, but I am sure the high quality and great customer service has moved with them!

  • Wes Inaba

Incredible addition to the revitalized Ritchie area. Glass Bookshop offers up titles from queer and racialized writers all in one place. The shop is clean and bright with lots of space. The staff are incredible friendly and helpful. 5 x …

  • Rebecca Robins

A local independent book shop stocked full of titles. Helpful staff. I browsed for a bit. Even though the shop is small, there was so much to see. I settled on a children's book, three cookbooks and a novel. (Four of the five written by Albertans).

  • Charles Castro

The place was lovely and the interior was great with lots of lights, which makes it lively. The prices were reasonable and you'll get newer stocks of books at this book store. You can even sit at their humble store and enjoy reading your book.

  • Hauwa Bwala

Really nice, small bookstore in Ritchie. I love that there are weekly staff picks, and each book picked has a tiny handwritten review in it. Staff are also very warm and welcoming. It's a little gem of a store. Go check them out, please.
