Nobody can deny the great variety to be seen here. Unfortunately the same goes for the clientele. With only 1 person on staff who is busy running the machine, there is nobody to keep order. We had a dirtball in the crowd constantly talking and picking fights with strangers. Someone went to get the staff and there wasn't anyone to do anything. Things got loud with people telling him to stop until the man upstairs had to stop the movie and turn on the lights. Most of the crowd just stared blankly at the screen, like zombies, as if this was normal. After asking maybe 1 question they declined to eject the troublemaker, instead offering several of us who just decided to just leave a voucher for another movie. Yeah, no thanks. Staff has poor judgment and inadequately dealt with what would've been a relatively simple situation at any mainstream theater. I blame it partly on the location, as Nob Hill is well known for random varieties of people, including druggies, bullies, thieves, and drunks throwing up on the sidewalk.

The Guild is an arthouse theater, so is much more intimate and personal than the big chain theaters. You get to meet the owners and talk with them about the movies - for which they clearly have a love for, and intimate knowledge of. They host several film festivals every year including Way Out West, the LGBTQ film festival, which takes place in October. When I go to the movies, I want to sit back, relax and enjoy myself with some good snacks. And here you don't get ripped off - a large tub of popcorn with real butter costs $4! Drinks are equally inexpensive, as are other snacks like candy. And their normal movie offerings range from silly comedies to esoteric biopics, dramas and movies that wouldn't hold a "blow up everything in sight" moviegoers' attention, but are fun, funny, dramatic, romantic and thought provoking with nary an explosion in sight. Prices for tickets are much more reasonable than big theaters too. If you love movies - this is definitely the place for you!

I appreciate the variety of films here. I mostly come for anime (though, now it seems like most screenings are through Fathom events), but I'm constantly checking the website for anything that catches my eye. There have been a couple of unpleasant experiences. The film skipped when I watched I'm So Proud of You a few years back, and they had to stop the movie and rewind it. I recently sat through a movie where I had the pleasure of listening to cellphone notifications while someone was kicking my seat and making noise right behind me. Signage about what to do in these situations, or a reminder before the film to be courteous, would be nice. In such a small theater, a minor annoyance can ruin a film.

Lovely. Amazing. The best independent and foreign art house cinema in the nation, as far as I'm concerned. Keif Henley, the owner, will speak with you, in depth about almost any film, since the birth of the art, as will Don, Chris, Jeanette, and anyone working there. Along with guest directors, and Devon's midnight movie choices, they bring the world to your feet. What's more, with both a platter system and digital, there is nothing you can't see. From the tiniest unknown film, to the most independently renowned, they book it. It is both a beautiful experience and an education, if you choose, when you attend.

I love this tiny theatre, the lobby is little but the concession options were great. The option of hot tea and coffee choices is really convenient, the seats aren't stadium but they are comfortable. The presentation is good, the picture was clear and clean, the sound is balanced just perfect not too loud or too low. Everything about this theatre screams original, independent and local, I well definitely recommend watching a non-big budget or foreign or documentary film here.

I cannot recommend the Guild enough! Bought a ticket for a lesser known noir film and to my delight I found that the ticket gained me entry to a double feature, which rounded out my Sunday evening quite nicely. All of the staff were so kind, helpful, friendly and clearly care a lot about the art of cinema. The concessions are also very reasonably priced. If you are in the Albuquerque area I would highly recommend visiting the Guild - the ticket prices are unbeatable!

If you're looking for an intimate cinema with a wonderful vintage atmosphere in Nob Hill, look no further. The employees are wonderful, the popcorn is always fresh with your choice of toppings, and the flicks are entertaining. How often do you walk out of a cinema and have a friendly conversation with the owner about what you have just seen, or about the director, or anything movies? Here at this place. It's awesome! Support your locally-owned cinema.

An Albuquerque gem! The Guild is one of those independent theaters that showcases both obscure and mainstream films. Lots of special events featuring guest appearances and discussions. Has Sat matinees for the kids, late nights for the adults and everything in between. I love the local feel...Kief seems to remember everyone by name, even when popping corn, taking tickets and running projection all at once.

  • Doug

Nice little theater clean and comfortable with reasonable ticket prices. Two things earned them a 3 rating. First audio quality is terrible there is far too much volume difference between dialog and action scenes and the dialog clarity is poor. Second the popcorn. The popcorn was cold, full of unpopped kernels and pockets of it were saturated with butter. Come on guys for $6 you should do far better.

  • Chris

I absolutely love this cinema!! Small and authentic, The Guild is a gem here in The Burque and should be made a historical landmark. They offer much more affordable concessions and ticket prices than AMC or Regal and the atmosphere brings feelings of nostalgia. Reminiscent of the old small town theater I attended as a young child. If you enjoy film, The Guild is the place for you!

  • Emma Elizabeth Schulte

I love seeing movies here! It's sort of small, but it has a full screen, great sound system, and comfortable seats. The snacks are GREAT, and not a rip off! And admission prices are totally affordable. The Guild is a terrific place to see independent movies, foreign movies, anime, sometimes a mainstream release. And it's ALWAYS so clean, especially the bathrooms!

  • Paul Stephenson

With a small venue the suspense or attention is really portrayed from the directors vision. Attendance is always perfect sizing put the small Ambiance of the room you were drawn in greatly to our films. The classical and unique showings available really Draw Me In to see more of what unique filmmaking I'm bound to see. Can't wait for my future views

  • Harper O'Connor

You can't go wrong here for a wonderful evening. Art films (Although we saw the Rocky Horror anniversary Picture Show, which was AMAZING), reasonably priced snacks and drinks, a cozy atmosphere, great people... We will absolutely be back to see more. I love supporting local little theaters and this one is now dear to my heart as a new ABQ resident.

  • Bill Robinson

I don't know if it's been open since the 70's, but I attended a film at the Guild Arts Theater (at that time as I recall) in about 1974. I was at Kirtland AFB 73-76. Good to see it is open. Saw "Hearts and Minds", an early anti-Vietnam war film. A guy a couple rows in front of us torched up a joint during the movie. Nobody said anything about it.

  • Isaac Bell

I went in to watch the minions: Rise of Gru with friends. It was so good, The theater was PACKED! Bro, Michael Jackson and Elvis CAME BACK TO LIKE, just to watch the Minions movie. Bro, EINSTIEN came Back to watch it to! The theater was good, Food is a bit overpriced, but it's a movie theater, What did you expect? Overall, I give it a 8.5/10.

  • Adric Me

I love this place! Aside from the UNM Sub theater its our only regular Independent movie theatre. Not all of the movies they show are ones i will love, but more often than not they are really great works! Real butter, not way overpriced concessions, small but comfortable theatre, good sound, great caring owners. This place is a real Gem!

  • Roy Pitrucha Hall

One of my favorites in ABQ. I can see a documentary, foreign film, old classic, or an independent film on any given week for a great price tickets and concessions although limited are very inexpensive as well. It has a great location near bars and resturaunts. Tip: get there early to park. It can be difficult to find parking

  • Countess

I love their interesting foreign films and special occasion screenings! Scales (a Saudi Arabian film) was the most breathtaking movie I saw there in the past year. The ticket prices are student-friendly and working class-friendly. The owner greets everyone warmly. I don't know how I could ever do without this theater.

  • Troy J.

This a nice, locally owned one room theatre. They show films you can't find anywhere else like documentaries and such. The theatre itself was a little dirty with popcorn on the floor but other than that it was a nice experience. Students get a discount, a ticket won't cost more than 8 dollars I think.

  • Julie Mollica

I've never gone to a theater like this before the Guild, but I love it so much. Some of the films are a bit out of league, but I love the experience. Great popcorn and cool people. You should definitely check it out, if you haven't already! Certainly one of the more unique places in Albuquerque.

  • Joel Nossoff

Small, intimate cinema where you can count on seeing films shown nowhere else in Albuquerque. Documentaries, classics, drama, comedy, foreign language films, animation. Excellent web site and very reasonable admission prices. An Albuquerque institution. Excellent quality projection and sound.

  • Stan Alexander

The Guild theater is good, and it is nice to have an art theater in the city. The tickets prices are fair, and the concession stand is much more affordable than most cinemas in town. That said, this is a very old cinema house, and it is a little bit on the small side, as is the screen.

  • Rip Williams

The Guild bring tons of content to town which might not otherwise find a venu, (co)hosting projects like Albuquerque Film Festival, Porntopia, Dan Savage's Hump... as well as reprisals of favorites like Pink Floyd The Wall, Rocky Horror and more. Check their eclectic schedule often!

  • Brutus Lee

A great place for films that are independent, foreign, replayed classics, or otherwise off of the mainstream corporate radar! They also occasionally have live shows like standup comedy, which supports local performers and anchors this place as core part of the Nob Hill nightlife.

  • Mr C

Used to go to Santa Fe for limited-distribution films, but now find those films here - at 1/3 the price. Nice little theater and people running it are delightful. Screen itself, though is rather small, about the same size as in one of the multiplexes, so don't expect, "Cinerama!"

  • Bob Karcher

Fantastic art house theater in Albuquerque's Nob Hill neighborhood. Comfortable seats (each with a Hollywood luminary's name on the back), clean and affordable with real butter on the popcorn. Friendly and ethusiastic staff. Make sure to visit if you love movies and are in ABQ!

  • Michael Hess

Best little movie theater in Albuquerque, with lots of indie films, foreign films and documentaries not shown in the big chains. Great for a dinner and a movie date due to its location in Nob Hill. Has a very nice snack bar. 60+ get senior discount on all full priced movies.

  • Paige Marquez

I love this cinema. Fair pricing, they show amazing film's. I was lucky enough to watch becoming nobody. Which I was so thankful they were showing in Abq. I wasn't going to be able to make the screening in Santa Fe. This is a perfect place for date night.

  • M. “Skelly” S.

Fantastic movie theatre that shows indie and lesser known films, absolutely one of the best theaters and from what I hear the have cheap (but good) popcorn and drinks! If you see they are screening something see if you can check it out it'll be worth it.

  • BLKwhopper 505

This place is cool. It's got a nostalgia feel of old school Cinema. People there are real friendly and can tell you anything you want know. Admission is cheap and concession too. Great place to check out a different movie or go friends who like stories.

  • Austin Harris

This is a hip spot. I've never been disappointed with what I've watched here. Limited releases keep me up-to-date on issues I wouldn't normally keep track of. The guys that run the place are super friendly and always up to chat. It's a real gem.

  • Carol Orona

So nice to be able to see movies that don't seem to get to the big theaters. Fabulous movie selections and special screening events. The foreign films are great! Keif and all the staff are awesome and knowledgeable on all the movies they show.

  • Michelle Suhar

My new favorite spot in Nob Hill. A great little independent theater! I love the movies that they have been showing and the fun events that they've been having. The snack bar is pretty awesome because it's not super overpriced or anything

  • Kevin R. Elder

There is no other theatre where I'd rather see a movie. The Guild is not only the place to see films you likely can't see anywhere else, but it is such a rare atmosphere; It's an ABQ historical icon. The owner loves movies and loves ABQ,

  • Ivan Toya (IrueltheSystem)

One of my favorite theaters. Independently owned so they show the movies they wanna play and fun special events and cult classics. Friendly staff. If I lived closer I would go more often but when I do visit family I make it a point to go.

  • Yvette Ammerman

While other theaters have seats that shake and 3D to try to goad you into engagement, the Guild's choice of movies relies solely on incredible content and cinematography to transport you into a new experience. This is my go-to theater.

  • Susan Page

Our home away from home. We tease that we go there every time they change the toilet paper, but we honestly do go every time they change the movie. Kief and Don manage to show an amazing variety of movies on their single screen. Then

  • Charles Westmark

Best theater in New Mexico with excellent curation. A place for the most hardcore of film buffs or somebody just looking for a fun date night. I would even go as far as to say that this theater is my favorite thing about Albuquerque.

  • Ryan

Love this place, always interesting films and events you won't find anywhere else. I'd give them five stars if only their popcorn was better. But they have a nice assortment of candy and they don't overcharge on snacks like regular

  • Terry Villanueva

I love this theater! The Guild rivals any art house movie theater in San Francisco minus the crowds and price. I notice the senior discount starts at 55 and took advantage for the first time ever! A great movie for $5 bucks.

The BEST cinema in Albuquerque! They play a whole assortment of independent and international films which are refreshing compare to the usual blockbusters. Tickets and snacks are very affordable too!

  • Rachel Maurer

This is Albuquerque's art house theater. They play great movies at great prices. The seats are comfortable and the popcorn tasty. You'll see movies here that don't make it to the multiplex.

  • Dominic Peralta

Small quirky and fun. I do truly love this place. It does lack the technical advantages of other film houses. But if the same movie is placing at both, I still always choose the gold first.

  • Josh Bivens

I saw Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me here as part of a month-long Lynch retrospective. The theater has a small, homespun quality to it. I love this theater and the kinds of movies they show.
