This pet shop is outrageous! Honestly, this store is something else! It's as if it's a small family run business! Why can't they be like Pets at Home, or Just for Pets, or even Amazon! Their pricing is like they're trying to feed all of the livestock they have and trying to pay their staff a decent living wage! I'd much prefer this store give us all of their stock at a ridiculously low price and not pay their rent and bills. Is this too much to ask! I have a family of animals to feed, I can't afford to pay them their asking prices of their products! They should they make a profit for all of their hard work?! And the staff?! Well, I've never seem such rude staff in all of my life! Running round, avoiding customers with their arms full of stock "pretending" to be rushed off their feet. They are obviously just pretending to be busy when there's a store full to the brim of customers. They can't they just stop everything they are doing to be able to notice someone that needs help? Granted, even though the customer hasn't asked for help the staff this place employs should just be able to read peoples minds. Is that too hard to ask?! At lets not even talk about the animals they rehabilitate! People coming in with their animals because they can't look after them anymore and this store is just taking any old animal and obviously don't notice there is a problem! But instead inquiring if they know about an issue, I'm just going to write this scathing review and not bother sincerely offering them any help. I AM AN EXPERT ON ALL THINGS I AND COULDN'T POSSIBLY BE WRONG ABOUT ANYTHING! Like some of the snakes they house. Clutch mate boas, under the age of sexual maturity, being housed together?! The same with the Leopard Geckos! How terrible! This obviously wouldn't happen in the wild at all! But all jokes a side. This store is possibly the best pet store this side of Birmingham. Their wide array of products are second to none. Even if they don't have it in store, they try their damned hardest to try and source it for you. Their prices vary for both low income households to high income households. So even though it may not be the brand you agree with using, it may be the only thing some people can afford. The staff are the sweetest, even on the worst of days when the shop is packed door to door, if you ask them for help they'll help you with anything you need. The care work they do with the animals they house is great considering the amount of livestock they have to care for EVERY SINGLE DAY! I bought 2 snakes from them in the past and they wouldn't let me take them home until they had seen my set-up for the snakes, that both snakes were eating regularly and happy with their progress, and that I had had made sure I had done my research in to the breed I was buying. Thank you so much Kings Heath Pet Centre, you're doing a great job.

I'd been looking for a particular toy for my Syrian Hamster. Had already visited two Pets at Home stores - both sold out. In the second store, the colleague checked and all local stores were out of this product. Called this pet store and the lady whom answered confirmed they usually sell it and she would go and check if they had any in stock. She returned, confirmed they had one left, confirmed the price and was friendly and helpful. I went straight there, and they had kindly reserved the item behind the counter. Whilst I was there, I had a good look round and they have a very large selection of foods, toys, health treatments, cages etc for all household pets. I spoke to three staff whilst there, who were all friendly and helpful; knew their stuff and genuinely seemed happy to be there and happy to help. They also do their own blend of hamster food, for £1.29 for a large bag, which seems very good value for money. I went there for one item and left with 5 and will only ship there for pet stuff from now on. If a local store can do it well and for an equitable or lesser price than a big chain, then for sure I'd like to support the independent business. The live animals they had on site all seemed very well cared for and in enclosures of an appropriate size. They have a large Parrot called Max on an artificial tree, again his colours looked bright, his eyes in good condition and his feathers were in good condition. I asked what stops him flying away, and they said he has his wings clipped regularly. I'm not an expert, but it does seem a bit mean to prevent a flighting bird from being able to fly - especially such an intelligent species who no doubt would love to fly. I know they have to prevent escape, but wouldn't a huge aviary with enough room for a short flight be preferable? Plus the tree he is displayed on, whilst awesome that it means you can get so close to him, shouldn't all animals have a shelter permanently available to them, so they can hide if they wish? Again, not an expert, but humans like to be able to get privacy as and when they please, as do every other animal I've owned, so I wouldn't think a Parrot would be much different. Happy to be corrected on this though. In any case, he and all the animals looked happy and healthy, which is of course the main thing. No doubt the owner loves Max like their child, so I'm sure they have his interests at heart. A lovely pet shop and I'll be back very soon.

Normally I have found this a welcoming store and friendly staff, but unfortunately during my visit yesterday quite the opposite - I am still considering further. I visited with my 4yr old son who has SEND and my other two children. My 4yr old got rather excited at seeing the fish, so was screaming/screeching (he is non verbal and does not understand language) I was already trying to calm him down and work out an exit strategy without causing my son distress when a member of staff decided to make a comment that my sons 'noise' was causing the fish distress following which I explained his medical conditions yet the staff member continued to lecture me re the fish being stressed by my sons 'noise' as a result of which I felt as if I had no option other than to leave the store with my other children. If people with disabilities, visible or otherwise, are not welcome in store due to the potential stress they could cause the animals then a clear sign should be visible at the entrance (but I suppose that wouldn't be legal!)

Friendly staff who are knowledgeable and are always available to assist you with any queries you have. This is a large shop with two entrances – one from York Road and the other from the LIDL car park (Silver Street). It is advisable to park in the LIDL car park, as parking from York Road is restricted. You will find a wide range of products including food for all domesticated animals. There’s also a range of animals for sale from small birds, fish, hamsters, rabbits to reptiles and all of these animals can be viewed in their sanctuaries. While I wait for an African Grey Parrot (for my children) to become available, I will be looking to purchase a couple of budgies or lovebirds, which are much more affordable. I’ve checked the food prices and they are more competitive than other pet stores. I look forward to visiting more regularly moving forward after making the purchase.

Without going into a lot of detail so the same thing that happened to me can be exploited by others, I had issue with a product purchased from the shop nothing expensive. I posted a complaint as i was not happy and was shocked how much the shop wanted to help. Due to the circustances i expected and would have understood if the shop would have said sorry but nothing we can do and in fairness i would have understood the reply totally. It was totally the opposite though, they could not help me enough they showed explained they was aware of the issue and offered an instant and full refund or replacement product with an appology as well. THANK YOU FANTASIC SERVICE!!

Nice little pet shop, with a nice enough selection of soon to be pets. We come here maybe once a month for our bird supplies. So far their seed selection is the best quality we have used for our Sun Conures and Caique. I think their prices are really decent on bird items, such as their perches, toys etc. The staff (minus a few) can be a bit off putting most times, they make me feel uncomfortable being there and are the only reason I contemplate not going but hey ho can't let other people's bad mood and grumpy faces hold you back. So, I still go and the children never tire of seeing all the adorable animals.

Lovely staff. Very helpful. They sell sanicat. IMO the best cat litter. Very well stocked shop. Have everything for different types of pet as well as wild birds. Also have fish and, reptiles and birds for sale. Excellent service. They do home delivery now which is a great boon if you don't have a car. March 2023 - the shop is as good as I've said above. My bird food and Sanicat is being delivered tomorrow! They ordered a box of 50 suet balls specifically for me. A great service. As at August 2023, it's just as good. I am now having a box of 150 suet balls delivered! The birds love them.

It is quite nice in terms of layout & staff. However there was one worrying aspect of the fish/aqua sales: a couple of years ago I was sold some fish & an eel just on demand however they did not last very long. More recently I have been a customer at "Pets at Home" who by contrast ask lots of questions, log online who you are, what you already have & have a much better way of giving you information to help you give your watery pets a better chance of survival. This shop needs to give customers a much better briefing even if it is not sought after.

This was an amazing place. I got my budgie Bennet from here. The staff were extremely helpful, picked out everything my budgie needed to live a long and happy life, and spent a lot of time with just one customer. There are dwarf rabbits *extremely cute*, a variety of bird types, tarantulas, macaw's, dwarf hamsters, rabbits, and many other cute and adventurous animals. I would definitely recommend this place for anyone looking for a pet or something for their pet's needs.

Lovely bright and clean, busy store. Staff were super helpful and able to answer all of our questions. All animals were in good secure clean enclosures with enough room to move around and be seen, but also able to retreat if required. Good selection of supplies for a wide variety of creatures. Help to get all of the supplies we needed for our new family member, without being pushed into extra purchases, with very reasonable prices. Would highly recommend.

Super pet store with very friendly and helpful staff. It is extremely well stocked catering for all small pets. There are always adorable rabbits and guinea pigs for sale as well as birds, fish and small reptiles. Staff are happy to give advice and have a good working knowledge of their stock. They are especially helpful if your pet is a bit 'peaky'. They will also deliver. Nearly forgot - there is a large, noisy parrot in the shop.

Great shop with great, well informed workers. I was in the shop with the screaming child and the parent requires parenting skill to say the least. The child kept screaming at the fish and the parent did nothing. It was up to the workers to ask the gentleman to move away from the fish. It was NOT the childs fault but the lack of understaning of the situation by the parent. Fabulous shop! Go there, you won't be disappointed.

Couldn't see a fault with any aspects of the store, staff are friendly, pets are cute and plentiful and prices for animals and accessories are fair from what I've seen. The only downside maybe is the size of the store, you won't find dogs or cats or any rather large animal for purchase here. Mainly smaller animals birds, rabbits snakes etc... Still a lovely place to visit even if you aren't buying anything.

I come here because they sell the best quality wild bird seed. Whilst it does upset me to see birds in cages I recognise that's what pet shops do and the animals are happy and healthy. I always stop by to talk to Max the parrot, and try to wear funky scarves, as he likes bright colours. He had "hello" a few times last week. He's ace and the little snakes and rabbits there are very cute too.

We love supporting independent shops where we can - this store has incredibly knowledgeable (and patient!) staff, who always take the extra time needed to steer us in the right direction when it comes to purchasing what we need for our animals. Their prices are competitive, and the store is full of soft and fuzzy animals as well as fish galore. Would always recommend this store!

This shop is great for all pet supplies. The staff are friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. It's always nice to see Max, the beautiful store parrot on his perch, along with all the other Guinea pigs, rabbits and gerbils in their pens. This shop shares its parking with lidl and you get 90mins free parking. Didn't get 5 stars, as it didn't have kitten wet food, when we last went.

Just got home after buying a new fish tank. It was an absolute bargain. We checked out a few other suppliers, but none came close to beating the price we paid. The staff are all so friendly and helpful, we cannot thank them enough for all their help and advice today. Will definitely be my go to pet shop from now on. I shall be recommending this gem of a pet shop to everyone.

From the marketing and advertisement I've been hearing about the shop I was expecting a bit more of a range of products and service. Overall the shop is a good service and well stocked up but unfortunately it didn't have the product's and range of names I was looking for. So I was a bit disappointed but overall decent gaff.

One of Kings Heath's hidden gems. Doesn't look like much but when you go in, it's like the Tardis. A good variety of. birds, rabbits, fish and reptiles on display. My children love this place and I'm sure it has a special place in so many KH children's hearts, especially long term resident Max the parrot, he's beautiful.

I have brought 7 budgies from here but I never never brought them at the same time though every one was kind and friendly here but the people actually know there stuff unlike other pet stores my dad also brought a gold fish from there and I am going there tomorrow to buy bird food.

Just been in for my first shop as a cat slave in a few years. Got some nice toys and treats, everything I needed and the staff all seem really friendly and helpful and love pets. They even sell lint rollers! Looks like I'll be coming back here for the forseeable. :)

What i dont get it is 1. You buy a fish 2. You wana give it back (dont pay even half) 3. They charge you for a bag to give fish back 4. They got the bag back and fish back 5. We lost out and they make money. To a person that spends alot of money... Anyway they ok.

Great local pet store. Right off the high street so there is some on street parking. There selection isn't huge but it's a nice store with friendly staff. They also have a resident parrot which will sometimes say hello to you when you walk past! So cute.

A good range of products for many different kinds of pets. We call in here quite regularly for stuff for our three birds and try to resist not buying another one. Say hi to "Max the Macaw" if you visit, but be warned - he's not as friendly as he looks!

Will never use this shop again, staff have a terrible attitude and caught mites of handling one of their snakes once. Went to pets at home in selly oak instead, staff were freindly and more than helpful, got everything i needed and worked out cheaper.

While the shop is well stocked animal care isn't ideal. The tortoises should not be on pellets and what was fed looked as if it was from the day before, untouched. A dead fish floating round the top of the tank isn't a good look either.

It is everything it says it is and even more if they don't have what you want they can get it, I mean it has it's own living breathing talking parrot that is so friendly and uncaged so you can stroke it absolutely loved this pet store.

Contrary to another users experience I have returned items on more than one occasion without problem. I did have the original reciept and item in it's original packaging so maybe thats the trick. They also have a good range for choice.

Would not buy from this store, entered for the first time to find rabbits being kept with Guinea pigs, turantulas having bug gel for water, bearded dragon with damaged tail and boas being kept in the same viv. Absolutely shocking.

Went in a few days ago to find rabbits and guniea pig living together this is not on guniea pig get scared by rabbit due to size and they are two complete different years ago they could live together but not now

It was good, lizards, different birds , different kinds of rabbits, parrots and fishes are there and dog and cats play toys food for pets and many more.

Really helpful staff. They told me how to proceed the first days with fishes, how to feed them, how to clean them and what products are best for them.

Enjoyed visiting the birds in prison, while deciding upon the many varieties of cat litter available here. A uniquely beautiful pet shop experience.
