I got a raspberry cheese cake for my birthday. The cake was not sweet and tasted very good (but not cheap though). We tried their croissants before and they were very good. Next time, we will try their chocolate cake and hope that their chocolate cake won't be too sweet and heavy. June 20, 2021 - Our son got us a Chocolate Mousse cake for Father's Day. The cake was very delicious! Nov. 5, 2021 - All the cakes I tried in the past were bought by my son and his GF. I have never visited the store myself. I made a visit to the store to check out and took some photos. The store inside is very clean. The store also has a spacious area for people to drink their coffee and enjoy their pastries/sandwich (the area can also be booked for special event). I wanted to buy their Chocolate Triple mousse cake again. Too bad that the store didn't have it because they didn't have the ingredients due to transportation issue from COVID. So, we bought a Mocha Cake to try out. Among all the cakes we tried, the Mocha Cake is my least favorite one (I found too much cream used). But the chocolate cake inside the cream was good. I was told that I can pre-order the cake 2 days in advance and they can customize the cake to my desired sweetness (i.e., less sweet). This is good to know. Nov. 8, 2022 - My son bought me another chocolate cake from this store. Delicious as usual. May 17, 2023 - Another triple chocolate cake bought by my son and his fiancé. 6" is just the right size for us. Always satisfied with their cake.

Ottawa is so lucky to have a bakery like this. This bakery is setting a new standard! Quality, freshness, and variety of its offerings is exceptional. Price point is not unreasonable either. Unfortunatley, the only negative thing I have to add is this bakery is terribly unorganized. As a customer, waiting to place an order to take out, and not knowing whether to stand in line or not, or simply guess what to do to be looked after is not fair. Why should I have to guess (as a new customer) how your system works for me to be looked after when I've entered your establishment. I left after waiting patiently for 15 minutes. This was on a Sunday afternoon, Labor Day weekend, when obviously you did not have enough staff available to serve your clientele as well. With lots of clients wondering around choosing what they wanted and a line-up of people in front of the showcase I saw only one employee behind the counter. Not fair to that employee either!

I give a 0 star to this place, the reviews in here are for sure not representing what they sell. What a poor quality, I asked for a chocolate croissant, once giving a bite it was so hard not even flaky like a fresh croissant, the inside had a weird yellow cream mixed with something that for sure did not taste like chocolate at all. I came visiting from the US and hoping I was going to taste the best French croissant in Canada, sadly I was wrong. I informed the blonde tall girl about the bad quality and asking if it was fresh she said yes it was made at 6am (already 4:35pm) that is not fresh at all. Her response was not polite at all, did not try to help or even offer to change it for something else. All she said go and complain with the manager I only attend here. Management should train their employees better and check the quality of their goods. Very disappointing.

Hubby and I discovered this hidden gem pre covid we had the crepes and it was so delicious. We ordered cakes and pasties from there a few times. Two weeks ago my husband brought this wonderful treat home to me. It was so good not too sweet which is what I like and refreshing. I'm 8 and half months pregnant and had a craving for it tonight. Just my experience today alone was beyond amazing that this place is officially my favorite pastry shop. The sweet cashier behinds the counter greets me and I asked her if they had the strawberry cream croissant but they ran out for the night. I asked how often they make it and was willing to come back when they make it. She tells me that she will be right back. Little did I know she was preparing me one. It completely made my day and she made this pregnant lady extremely happy. Such amazing service and delicious treat. A must try!!

This is a hidden gem! They offer yule logs, cakes, eclairs, a variety of fruit and chocolate tarts, as well as baked goods like apple turnovers and croissants. They also have a creperie station featuring both sweet and savoury crepes. In addition to all of this glory, there are fridges of baked goods both sweet, savoury, as well as pre-made food like chickens and pastas. Came here for a flan, left here with a tart! Pictured is the Chocolate Ganache Coffee Cream tart. It is excellent and you can taste all of the rich flavours with every bite. Well worth the $5 and can easily be shared with another person. Just make sure to grab a coffee or hot chocolate to pair it with.

I got here very unexpectedly. Was searching for a pastry place to find a cake for friends birthday and this was the nearest one to my location. It’s one of the best pastries place in Ottawa. Best in quality, taste and service. Ideal place to buy birthday cake and try pastries.. Lots of unique ready to go cake and wide varieties of other pastries to have. The place seemed busy. One thing I liked is that we wanted to write some text on cake, so instead of writing it on the cake they kept a big chunk of removable chocolate on top and wrote on it. Sure going back to this place to try more. The staffs were really nice. They have indoor dine in and also free parking.

All my Mum wanted for her birthday was a black forest cake, and on a gushing recommendation from a co-worker, I placed an order with La Maison du Kouign-Amann. The staff was friendly and polite, my order was ready on time, and the final product looked beautiful. It was extremely well received as 'one of the best black forest cakes' she'd ever had, and has now been selected as our 'go-to' for future cakes. (While waiting in line, I also got taken in by the lemon tarts in the display case and left with several of them. They were delicious, and the box was empty before I knew it. I can't wait to go back to try some of their other baked good!.)

  • Jas Buckley

Terrible customer service! Would not recommend ordering from here. The owner was very rude when brought up on her stores mistake. We called in to place an order for a 9 inch cheese cake for a 21st birthday. When the cake was picked up and brought home it was looking a little small for a 9 inch cake so we decided to take a measurement it was just above 7 inches. The store took forever to call back regarding this issue and when we finally got through to the owner she was extremely rude and arguing with us that our cake was fine and then proceeded to hang up mid conversation. Attached is the photo that shows it was way to small.

A friend recommended this bakery to me. And when she recommends something about food, I listen. So I drove all the way from Manotick to Kanata, just to go here. The place is immaculately clean. Following covid procedures. And the options. Do many options. I really didn't intend on buying this much stuff, but couldn't help it. It's absolutely delicious. Creamy chocolatines, almond croissants, orange glazed croissant, turnovers, an imperial, eclairs and a fudge tart. Mostly importantly, the Kougin Ammans with salted caramel. Crispy, surgery pastry with caramel. Get them. You won't be sorry.

  • k

Its namesake was denser than I expected, given my initial sampling was from Dominique Ansell. I understand that there are different versions of it but I prefer the flakier type. Bases are the same and they put on a bit of topping for flavors. A tart had a fantastic passionfruit curd on it. Lots of gorgeous choices. Surprised there are so many freezers full of take home goodies as well as lots of savory options, and jams, etc. Very friendly staff too. Kept thinking I'll get there but a couple of years later it took an Amex promo to actually bring me in - haha - will definitely be back now!

  • PCJF

Tried the crepes this time. Good size portions. Was worried the caramel would be too sweet but it is a light flavoring. Very little "saltiness". Others in our party tried different sweet crepes with one person trying one of the savoury (chicken Alfredo). Everyone enjoyed it, no complaints. Also have tried their cakes and tarts before. Overall I find the tarts a bit hit/miss. One of the misses is the mango tart. It tastes very strong, almost artificial or like dried mangos. Also find some of the tarts a bit dry. Looking forward to trying some more of their other items.

  • T.

Picked up two treats for ourselves and decided on the Lemon Tart and Raspberry Pistachio Tart. The shop was brightly lit and clean, and they have a lot of prepared savoury and sweet pastries in their fridges. We loved the Lemon Tart which was well balanced in terms of sweetness and tartness. The buttery crust was outstanding. The Raspberry Pistachio Tart was too sweet for us. The raspberry jam was very sweet and overpowered the lighter pistachio flavours. I also wish the middle layer of pistachio frangipane had stronger pistachio flavours. The crust was very good.

  • Xiaobean Wang

Amazed by the great selection of French desserts and pastries. The pistachio cranberry tart is just at the perfect sweetness with full body of nutty flavor from real pistachio. The subtle fruity acidity from cranberry perfectly balanced off the sweet taste. The creamy chocolate croissant is also beyond expectation. The light sugar crust upgrades the crispness of pastry dough. The inside is tender and soft. The “caramelized” chocolate finishes the bite with pleasant chewiness. Totally a joy companioned with a sip of black americano.

La Maison is by far the most incredible patisserie I’ve visited. There are hundreds of products available - from tarts to cakes to pies to frozen treats you can bake for yourself. I’ve never had anything from here that was less than stellar quality, and when I buy treats for friends here, they’re always blown away by the quality. This isn’t the kind of place you’ll find a cheap sugar hit, but if you want a high quality product that’s deeply satisfying, La Maison is the place to go.

  • Justin Inglis

Wow, was looking for an elevated French bakery in Kanata, and this place blew me away. Very cute set up inside, love all of the take home to bake frozen options. I tried their name sake pastry, and it did not disappoint whatsoever. Rich, flaky, and delicious. Who knew that this place even existed? So glad that I googled and found this bakery, I I will definitely be back and ensure that I tell everyone in the area about it! The staff was also very lovely and helpful!

  • Erin Daley

So disappointed! I went for their kouign amann and had high hopes as it is in their name, but it was one of the worst pastries I’ve ever had. I couldn’t even finish it :( wet, soggy and bland. I had bought three to take home and won’t eat the other two, I’ve had these pastries before and when made properly they are the best pastries out there. This is not the place to get them. They have a large array of other pastries but I won’t be back to try them.

  • Tu Vuong

Tried the Nutella kouign amann after a hike at South March Conservation and it hit the spot! Also got a cappuccino to go and it was done to perfection - dry/foam with a sprinkle of cinnamon. So good! Reheated the salted caramel and lemon kouign amann the following day and they were both melt in your mouth. Lots of variety for pastries and cakes, too. Was eyeing the 6" black forest cake for a birthday gathering this weekend. This place is a gem!

  • Jason Chute

First time visiting this bakery. Stopped off today to pick up a few desserts for a Mother's Day afternoon tea after a recommendation that was provided to me. I let them pick out six different tarts and other pastries for is to try, and they did not disappoint! Everyone absolutely lovedntjeir afternoon treats. Some may think the prices are a bit on the high end, but after seeing the artistry that goes into their work I consider it money well spent!

  • Kim Nuch

The desserts are good. However, the service is terrible. The cashier didn’t pay attention to the order. I had to repeat myself a few times as she kept on getting the wrong sweets. She also gave me back the incorrect change. I had to inform her that there is about 10 dollars missing from the change I gave her. I Would definitely not recommend anyone to go there.

Ordered a strawberry cheesecake for my mom’s birthday and was very disappointed. I heard great things about this bakery and wanted to try it out. The cake tasted very light and the crust was not very good. The cake was very short too and my family mistook it for a tart. Very disappointed as it was over $40 and a complete mess after a very short drive. I haven’t tried their other products but definitely do not recommend their cheesecakes.

  • Maria Anderson

What a unique and precious little French bakery We came from out of town to visit family in Kanata and this bakery was just a few blocks from where we were staying. It is a little slice of France I suppose Lots of baked goods and homemade jams! As well as authentic imported goodies from France as well. We did not get a chance to stay at the Cafe while we were there but we will save that for our next adventure out to Kanata.

  • Nancy Borsk

I was at the bakery on Monday and have purchased their cakes previously. Very tasty and well done cakes and pastries. I purchased a shepherds pie to eat at home. Tonight we baked it and served it up. This dish cost $20, serving 4. The pie was mostly potatoes and about a 1/2 inch of meat. SO disappointing. I'll not recommend their frozen food nor purchase it again. Pretty expensive for mashed potatoes and cheddar cheese on top!

  • Jean-Pierre Lafleur

Absolutely delicious! Whether it's the weekend crêpes, the bread, the patries or the frozen, ready-to-bake items, this place never disappoints. It is one of our regular family treats. Their specialty, the kouing-amann is a sinful little pastry that is equally delicious as-is as it is with caramel topping. We highly recommend this place. It's also a good place to get some imported French cookies, chocolate and other goods.

  • Mike Pearse

Not only were the owners incredibly friendly and helpful, the crêpes (savoury and sweet) were delicious and chock full of fresh ingredients. And then...those Kouign-Amann. Wow. Our new favourite baked good anywhere! Anywhere. Who would ever buy a commercial donut when you can get one (or two or ten!) of these? We're from out-of-town, but anytime we're even close to Kanata, we are detouring to La Maison du Kouign-Amann.

  • Elizabeth Ramsay

I love all the pastries that I've tried from this place! The namesake, Kouign-Amann, is delicious, and should be eaten with a coffee or at least some water. It is very rich and great. I also love that this bakery has frozen pies and such to bring home and bake on your own. The sandwiches and sausage rolls rock for somebody who does not have a sweet tooth, and they sell local craft goods such as jams. Overall super.

  • Niloo Aliabadi

Looking for the best bakery in Kanata, I came across this place on Google and decided to give it a try. Unfortunately, this bakery is not what it promises. The multi seeds bread loaf I purchased here had not risen and was almost raw. There were no seeds inside, only a few sprinkled on top. The baguette was also below average. Did not purchase any of the pastries as they seemed stale. What a missed opportunity!

  • Leanne Nguyen

Swung by here to pick up some pastries and I was pleasantly surprised with how much variety they make/carry! A heavenly assortment of pastries and baked goods, a back section that is divided between a seating area and fridges/freezer containing soups, frozen pies/tarts, croissants, cinnamon buns among others. A hidden gem given its location but would recommend visiting if you’re in the area!

  • Carol Johnson

This is my favorite place for authentic French crepes but today was very disappointed. I requested syrup for my crepes and they brought over sticky table syrup that I would NEVER have in my home. When you spend $30 on two French crepes I expect authentic maple syrup. I would have gladly paid extra to receive maple syrup but was not offered that option. very dissatisfied

  • Veronica Landriault

Had a great experience at this little bakery! Though it would be nice if they had some better coffee options, the food was good and service amazing! The nice young man at the front (I forget his name but he was tall with dirty blonde hair) was awesome. Will definitely be back

I've never had kouign-amann before and this is soooo good. Out of all the flavor I like the salted caramel the most, it is not too sweet as I would have imagined. I suggest toasting it in oven 320F for 3-4 min (I used an air fryer) to make it extra fluffy and buttery. The caramel melt into the bun and it is perfect. Will definitely visit again!!!!!

  • Mel S

I pre-ordered mango cheesecake. It's actually a light cake since the cream cheese isn't as heavy and the texture is more like jelly pudding. It's really good since they don't make it too sweet and you can still taste the tangy of the mango. I also tried their mango tart, which has a similar taste, but the texture was more thick pudding.

  • Jocelyn Brannigan

Incredibly kind and helpful staff, vast selection of baked goods and delicious food options! I bought some tarts and croissants and they were devoured in record time and such a great birthday gift. May be on the pricier side but you’re paying for the quality! They even have a large dine in area which I didn’t expect to see.

If you want the Best most Delicious and Elegant desserts Then you have found the Gold Mine!! The pastries are fresh and amazingly and lovingly made, that you can taste the love!!! I engaged La Maison du Kouign-Amann to provide catering for a bridal shower. The pastries were absolutely outstanding! I had never seen such beautiful cupcakes and mini tarts, with such fine attention to detail! Fran and Ruslana were just so professional from beginning to end and the bride and her mother were thrilled.

  • Mark Flores

They have a lot of selections from cakes, croissants to sandwiches. They also do custom orders, we have ordered several cakes from them for our parties and they were delicious! Our family favorite is the strawberry shortcake. Prices a reasonable and service is impeccable! I think we have found our go to bakery shop.

  • Savy Sean

A lot of really good treats and some misses for sure. This place has grown so much over the years. If you find the things you like amongst the huge selection you will surely enjoy this place. Highlights: chocolate pistachio tart and butter croissant. Lows: crepes and some of the imported products we tried buying.

  • Boaz Aharony

Just an absolutely great place, awesome owners, great staff, a hidden gem in Kanata. The desserts are basically at levels not normally seen in North America and truly reminiscent of France, not to mention the fact they sell some authentic French goods that I have no idea how they even import. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

  • Krista Carrigan

Ordered a birthday cake from here this year and the person taking my order was sweet as pie and suggested I try the raspberry delight because of my love of their strawberry shortcakes and it was delicious! So light and fluffy, not too sweet at all and so beautifully decorated. The whole family loved it!

  • Unmanagable

I am a fan of Kouign Ammans. I found this place while exploring Ottawa and had to try their Kouign Ammans since it was in the name of the Bakery. But i was disappointed. The Kouign ammans were dry and not fresh. They may have good brunch options but this review is only for their Kouign Ammans.

  • A T

Nice place to have a cup of tea/coffee with amazingly delicious cakes and pastries! That's my place to go if I want to meet with friends in Kanata or if craving desert. I would be really happy to see tea cups in a bigger size (like 0.5litre). That will allow me to really enjoy pastries.

  • Eric L. Scott

An amazing bakery with authentic French cuisine. It is family run and all the staff are very friendly. Has a public washroom, free parking, and great coffee. Offers both eating in and takeaway. Wheelchair accessible entrance, seating, and washroom. Also has a gender neutral bathroom.

  • Alex S

One of the best bakeries in Ottawa. They have a wonderful selection of pastries, cakes, sandwiches, breads, frozen meals, and imported French food items. Their specialty, the Kouign-Amann pastries, are the best. They also have fantastic butter croissants and strawberry shortcake.

  • Trisha Ciarlo

Amazing selection of pastries & cakes. Frozen ready to heat meals & ready to bake goods. Definitely try the stuffed croissants available on Friday, Saturday & Sunday. Looking for ward to trying their crepes available for eat in on the same days. Will be back again & again.

  • Ursula Robinson

The Kouign-Amman are perfect, especially if you follow the home heating instructions. They don’t need the toppings, but the raspberry one is lovely. The croissants though are a hidden gem. They rival Parisian boulangerie ones that I love. Buttery, soft, crispy and flaky.

  • Shari Kia

It’s a decent coffee shop but sadly the quality of pastries and the coffee have been deteriorating a lot! In terms of atmosphere, there are sits and tables but it gets fairly noisy, and the tables don’t get frequently cleaned! Also some of the items are a bit overpriced.

  • Jean-Roch Bécart

As a French from France I was not really impress by their pastries. (Chocolate croissant aka pain au chocolat, almond chocolate croissant and croissant.) Bought them twice in the afternoon and they didn't taste fresh. Also price is expensive for the given quality.

  • Ted Kuchnicki

One of my favourite pastry shops. Wide selection of pastries but I like the Kouign-Amann and crème filled croissants (only on weekends). Their whipped cream filling is not sweet. Tried the Black Forest cake once and it had lots of good cream on/in it. More

Great place visited multiple times. Just one time charged for the pastry marked as 5 for 5.5. Do they charge for the box? Not big deal didn’t ask her to change but I guess you will never get charged for less than the marked price anywhere XD

Wonderful, understated place. Amazing range & quality of foods - especially good crêpes. The excellent Ailsa gave us fast, efficient & joyous service. She was the cream on the top of an already excellent meal. Thanks …

  • Jenny Sheng

There is a delectable selection of pastries but they are not authentically French if that's what you're looking for. The pistachio croissant was dry and not flaky at all. It was a rather disappointing experience for the price.

  • Marieka Arksey

I haven't been myself (I don't live in the area any more but it's high on my to-do list next time I'm in town) but they delivered tarts and a gift card to my mom for her birthday recently and she absolutely loved them both!!!

Great pastries, croissants, crepes need some more to compare with a French crepe but not the worse in town, coffee isn’t their forte if you are particular with the flavours of your espresso or cap

Tartlettes were amazing! Had lemon blueberry, pistachio ganache, and a few others. Only drawback was staff that seemed uncomfortable serving the public.

Delicious, fantastic, easy going and reasonably priced. Cost to good taste is definitely there. Will for sure visit again next time I'm in the area.

Very delicious chocolate mousse cake that our son bought his mom for Mother’s Day. So yummy! I like it that the cake was not too sweet!

Service was excellent, large variety of products which are more European centric. Sandwiches were fresh and they heated them as well.
