I took a friend of mine who just moved in the area for lunch here today. It was our first time in this restaurant. Unfortunately, we are disappointed for the most part. Parking is horrendous so if you plan on driving, be prepared to spend time looking for a parking space on this busy street OR be prepared to park at least 6-7 blocks away into the residential area. The place is small with about 4 tables in front and I think about the same number of tables in the back. It wasn't too busy when we got there around 12:30ish so we got a seat in front. And we were glad we were seated in front. The place was really loud with customers practically yelling at each other AND the kitchen is pretty much in middle of the eating area so you hear a lot of kitchen staff shouting and banging of pots and pans. We found that we had to raise our voices to hear each other talk. I could imagine how much more noisy it is if we sat in the back. If you want a quiet place to chat, this isn't the place to go to. For the food itself, we were actually pleasantly surprised with the portion of the food. Our lunch dishes came in big plates with a good heap of white rice. My mongolian beef lunch dish was good/OK but I found myself looking for beef under all the onions. I love my onions...but since it's mongolian beef, I expected more beef than onions! I asked my friend about his beef stew with tofu lunch dish. He only finished about 2/3 of his food. He said that the beef was quite tough, and had to chew through it. Like mine, he said there were twice as much more tofu than beef. I was happy and surprised at how gigantic the pot stickers are! But sadly, when I bit into them...it was more dough than filling. The service staff was nice though. There were two ladies who helped us and was friendly when we asked for forks and water. The service was quick. So 5 stars for those two ladies!

I think Ling Ling is the only Chinese restaurant on San Bruno Ave that cooks decent spicy chinese food. The food quality is a hit & miss though. It varies depending on which chef cooked it. We usually pickup to go. The kung pao chicken & mongolian beef are sometimes a bit bland & meat chucks are a bit too thick & big for me so I tend to cut them into halves & then restir-fried them with some soy & chili oil or jalapenos/chilis. The Shanghai noodles are thick & flavorful the way we like it. The shredded potatoes & salt & pepper pork chops are good as well. But, sometimes the porks chops aren't as crunchy or crispy as we like because they didn't cut an opening to let out the steam. They do take credit cards. I wish they did deliveries since parking is kind of difficult. Their to go containers are cheap plastic containers that aren't really meant for hot food. The containers usually breakapart at the folding area so I normally transfer the food to glass containers at home. Sometimes, the containers would be slightly warped at the bottom from the hot food too which concerns me.

I dont ever rate Chinese restaurants that are located in densely Chinese populated area. This is because they tend to be authentic but service is almost always poor. Trying this place for the first time I chose the eggplant in garlic sauce lunch special after checking with the server what the ingredients are. The dish came out and there was no meat to be found (although I was told there would be shredded pork). I flagged down a server whom seem to be the owner and told her about my problem. She told me that the dish doesnt come with any meat, and I told her that I had only order the dish based on what I was told. She then proceeded to tell me that if I want meat in the dish then she will have to charge me dinner plate price for $5 extra. I told her NO! She then proceeded to offer me a "upgrade fee" of $1. I told her I am just going to leave because it was not my fault and I dont feel I should pay extra for their mistake. She then instructed the kitchen to put some pork on top of my dish. I will NEVER be back to this establishment again!!!

I’ve never sat down and eat here, just take out orders. The food is consistently good but the customer service needs major improvement. Regardless on who gets there first, they always served/helped the Chinese speaking customers first. Last time I was there, around 6:15pm, there were people lined up against the wall. I went straight to the table where they have the take out orders. I told the lady there, I needed to pick up my order. I said it 3x, she just continued to ignore me. Woman came in started speaking Chinese, and she was helped right away! I asked for my food again two more times, and was still ignored. I took one step towards the orders, and pointed at my food. She finally acknowledged me by saying the amount - $28 and some change. I gave her $30, picked up my food, and walked away. If I was only given proper courtesy as a customer, not even friendly, just acknowledged, I would’ve given her $35.

Great Chinese restaurant that serves authentic Chinese dishes. Can't go wrong with anything on The menu. One of the best in the area. Thus place is small but the food makes up for the atmosphere. This is a must try place.

In the Portola this is the probably best number one overall Chinese restaurant and there are quite a few. I would say that Tops Cafe comes in second especially if you like the chosu (BBQ pork) but as far as traditional Chinese dishes Ling Ling is the bomb. The Kung Pao chicken is nice with lots of peanuts and all the other wonderful items included in that fantastic dish. My wife loves the beef chow mein and the noodles are to die for. I don't have a picture sorry but then again this restaurant is not much to look at and they could get a new awning I believe that would help their business otherwise though it's a great spot.

Don’t be fooled by its simple appearance. This place serves outstanding Chinese food. I’ve been to China, HK, Macau, Singapore, Malaysia…everywhere that claims to have the best Chinese food. Ling Ling is comparable with the best of them - even those acclaimed by Michelin. Don’t miss it !

First time trying this place. They got my order correct. The broccoli in the beef and broccoli was perfect. Way too many veggies and not enough meet in the beef broccoli and in the chicken with garlic sauce. The only complaint is that we spent almost $50 and the lady wouldn't give me another Chilli sauce, super stingy. If I would have bought all four dishes separately I would have gotten one for each entree. Sheesh.

I've never been so disrespected in my life. I waited 20 minutes for a table, ordered food, and then was told I had to take my food to go only because I was not Chinese (I didn't even get my food yet). They sat down two Chinese families that came in the restaurant 10 and 15 minutes AFTER me. Moral of this story is racism comes in all shapes and sizes. Never eat at this restaurant.

No wait at 11am on a Friday. Ling Ling serves basic Chinese dishes like fried rice and chow mein. Since we had breakfast earlier, we only ordered wonton soup $12 and a BBQ pork wonton noodles $15. Both were decent sized and tasted OK. I would have preferred shrimp in the wontons. The BBQ pork was dry. Service was excellent since we were the only ones in there.

So great and so affordable! Got the 32.95 takeout with 3 entrees and rice as well. I ordered the salt and pepper squid, salted fish with chicken and eggplant and the beef stew. The beef stew was so tender and I loved the salted fish with chicken and eggplant! It’s definitely more than enough for 2 people with leftovers for another meal.

Authentic Chinese/ "Die Pie Dong" style cooking. What chinese locals like to call a little bit of home style cooking. The food is decent and prices are good- non-expensive. Service is friendly and fast. Place is small, so plan accordingly not to go during rush hours. Parking is a little difficult.

Great sit down menu selection, super friendly staff and order was timely even with fully loaded tables. Ask for specials translated for more choices. In front the To go steam tables and dim sum I highly recommend from visits before. Pics next time, chef L …

Got a little scared by the large beetle on the wall by our table, but supposedly it has an 85 health score, so not great, but not terrible. The actual food was pretty good - we had a green onion cake, sizzling platter fish with satay sauce, and a noodle dish.

One of the cheapest family style Chinese restaurants. Their 3 items with free rice menu is large and decent. The menu is large not the portions which is mediocre. And there is a "no rice to go" rule which makes sense since it's provided free.

  • Nikolas Schwarz

They have great Chinese food for a low price. The service is very friendly and the atmosphere is okay. If you like Asian food, I'd generally recommend you to check out San Bruno Avenue as it's cheaper and not as crowded as Chinatown.

  • Paul Furman

I was hoping to get stir fried veggies but the sign says dim sum, not general cuisine. I didn't see anyone eating veggies just the greasy dim sum bar. I see from the photos now they can do veggies but I didn't notice any menu.

  • Mike Bravo

Ling Ling is very good. Not greasy. Vegetables are not cooked to death and mushy. Food comes out fast. It gets busy and service can be ah but if your coming to eat you will eat well. Ling Ling does good take out also.
