My husband had heart surgery and suffered a "small" stroke. He was sent to Lovelace hospital downtown. He couldn't communicate because of the stroke. They did physical therapy by giving me a paper showing me how to do it. They had his hands in restraints 24/7. They said that he tried to get out of bed and was pulling at his iv's. They would let him stay dirty in his bed after using the bathroom in his bed. They would bring his food tray and leave it on his table. With his hands tied up and not being able to feed himself, I told the nurses and cna's that he couldnt function or communicate with them because of the stroke. I asked if somebody would help feed him, when me or my daughters weren't there. I was told " of course, somebody will". On several occasions I noticed that his food tray hadn't been touched. I would of course feed him when I got there. Asking again if someone could help feed him when we weren't there. He didn't eat very much. Another time his tray was already gone. I asked if he had eaten. I was told " yes he must've been hungry. He cleaned off his tray" I know that was a lie, he couldn't do it on his own. When his stomach was hurting, I told the CNA. They brought Tylenol. After open heart surgery I thought that he would get something stronger. I asked about it and was told that he didn't ask for pain meds. Again he can't. Then my husband refused his diabetic meds. One of the CNA's left. Then he came back with a syringe or a suppository. They held him down and forced either the Tylenol or diabetic meds on him. He was also threatened, warning him about his actions. I didn't know at that time that they can't do that. He was so angry with me, because I let that happen. I didn't know that I could have stopped it. He had an infection in his stomach. Passed away 2 days later. Death certificate said he died of natural causes. He was humiliated and put under so much stress. I walked in one day and saw him trying to scratch an itch on his nose. Of course he couldn't reach. It must be awful to have an itch and not be able to scratch, or be hungry and thirsty and have water and food put in front of you, and you just can't reach it. His lips were always dry. I didn't know how to help. Nurses and cna's just didn't care, even though I would tell them over & over that he couldn't do things on his own

My husband was brought in by ambulance to Lovelace downtown ER very early morning Sunday, October 8th. He had shortness of breath, increased edema and a low grade fever. He has previously been diagnosed with CHF and has many other health issues. I explained to the nurse and the doctor that he recently had labs done through his primate care provider and explained that there were some abnormal labs, specifically his liver enzymes. Long story short, he was discharged and I was told to follow up with his primary care provider. I called his primary care provider, who was shocked that they had discharged him with his history of CHF and heart stent placement. The chest x ray that he had done there also showed edema. His primary care provider told me to take him back to the ER if his condition worsened. That same evening, he was having more trouble maintaining his oxygen, had a rapid pulse, his fever was rising and was extremely fatigued. This time, I drove him to Lovelace Heart Hospital Emergency room. He was given a better exam here, but once again, when I voiced my concerns about his obvious worsening CHF, and changes in laboratory readings, it fell on deaf ears. When I voiced my concern about his cough, all I got was, “ of course he is going to cough, he has CHF.” To my utter amazement, he was discharged once again. Today he was brought by ambulance to another hospital. He has been admitted for acute on chronic hypoxic respiratory failure, worsening CHF, abnormal EKG, fluid overload with possible pneumonia. To say I am angry is an understatement. He did not need yo get this sick. I am extremely disappointed. My husband has doctors that he sees on an outpatient basis through Lovelace, and they are wonderful, but the ER really let him down. I have been a medical professional for almost 15 years, and for your staff to basically shrug off our concerns is really beyond disappointing and frustrating.

On November 15th, my brother was taken to the emergency department. However, the charge nurse, Seana, and RN Cheyenne Mohamed were unprofessional and discourteous towards him, even though he was not fit to be discharged. Despite their insistence on discharging him, I requested to speak with the house supervisor. Fortunately, the house supervisor was helpful and professional, making it clear that my brother was not fit to be discharged. She arranged for him to be admitted to the behavioral health unit. Later, Seana asked my brother to change into paper scrubs. Despite his cooperation, she raised her voice and agitated him further by asking, "Hello, did you hear me?" I went to the nurses' station and spoke with Gerald, the security officer. While I was there, I overheard the caseworker, Megan, who was also unprofessional and mean to my brother, speaking loudly about how she refused to work with him. She stormed off visibly upset after I spoke with her. In my opinion, mental health, especially men's mental health, is not taken seriously enough. Your ER staff needs more training on how to deal with people in crisis.

Lovelace has been my primary provider for 8 years now and they seem to get worse each year. Their communication system via phone is frustrating.. just this past week ( and on other occasions ) I was trying to find out the results of a CT scan, I called to speak with someone only to have the phone ring endlessly ( 10 minutes) with no one picking up. Called back and chose the option to leave a message and again it rang for nearly 10 mins without any response. Yes, I know about MyChart and it is probably better at getting a response but it took 3 days for a response to be posted. My other big complaint is the availability or scheduling an appointment to see a doctor. Often it’s months not weeks before you can get in to see someone. If the Presbyterian system in Albuquerque accepted my BCBS insurance I’d switch. To be fair I will say that most individuals I have dealt with ( doctors and staff) have been friendly and helpful so it’s more of an institutional or company management issue.

No consistency in Care in the emergency room. I have a condition that puts me in there around every 6 weeks or more. It's called cyclical vomiting syndrome. It is not curable only manageable. I have done everything I could to prevent it, stopped eating red meat processed foods and more. So I do my part and more to manage it.I try to ride it out at home, even though my doctor's tell me to go in when I see blood in my vomit. So I do and sometimes they treat me with the proper meds and keep me until I am stable. But most of the time they treat me like I am coming there to get high. They will and have talked down to me. Told me I am abusing the system and referred me to pain management when I don't meet the criteria. It's called compassion fatigue. If you have it please take a vacation or pursue another occupation. You are in the wrong job. I am so tired of going to the hospital to be treated for a real emergency. And being treated like it's my fault or like I'm seeking drugs.

I had a thyroid biopsy scheduled for 11:30. The nurse took me in a little early to prep me. I was made ready and lay in a very uncomfortable position to expose my thyroid, which would have been fine for little while but the doctor doing the biopsy was almost an hour late in arriving. The nurse and the tech kept texting him and he kept replying that he was 10 minutes out or on his way or 5 minutes out. Because once I was prepped, I was unable to move, I was VERY uncomfortable for a VERY long time. I have never had this done at Lovelace before (I have had several over the years) and will NEVER have it done there again. In addition, I was sore for almost 2 weeks after the procedure. I usually am fine two-three days after the procedure. The nurse and tech were wonderful and kind but I was very, very, very unhappy with the doctor for his tardiness AND how sore I was for so long after.

Several years ago I was in Lovelace and had a horrible experience. I had hoped this time would be different. It started out good. The nurses were knowledgeable and friendly. I was told 1 and 1/2 hours in surgery 1 hour in recover and then to a room or a release to home. Started fine, got to recovery and then waited 5 hours. I heard that they were out of rooms, out of recovery rooms, walkers and had ordered trays for us that had been there for hours with no food. Suddenly a nurse came in and told me he got me released and it was a marathon to the front door. They suddenly moved so fast that they forgot to take the IV out of my arm. When I told them they removed it at record speed slapped a bandage on that kept falling off and wheeled me to the exit. Actually I didn't mind leaving that fast. I missed my tray but got fast food on the way home. Keep trying.

One of my best experiences in an ER setting. The staff was pleasant and respectful. Testing ran vert smoothly and was completed very quickly. My only concern is the disconnect with my primary care doctor for after care. Still waiting to see my primary doctor about concerns after 2 weeks. Was just inform I should scheduled an appointment with any open doctor that was available instead. So now I have to go thru my whole history with another new doctor, who has no true interest in me as an individual. What purpose does that serve? So now I will probably end up returning to the ER to get answers to my concerns. Costing me more money just to address my concerns that should be done by my primary doctor. Also additional testing was requested and no one had contacted me about scheduling these even though they have been ordered.

Emergency staff I would give 5 starts they were kind and compassionate. My husband ended up needed to be hospitalized once they moved us to floor 5 no one gave us any updates as to what they were doing what tests they were running etc also my husband was in a lot of pain when the doctor finally talked to him it took over 24 hrs for him to be given pain meds my husband was also experiencing a lot of anxiety from pain being stuck in a room not. Knowing what was going on also not being explained what certain medications would do (side effects) he checked himself out on the 4th day they didn't give us any meds for home no follow up instructions no warning just bye ! I was very disappointed in that especially since I know he needs follow up care with liver doctor

The staff was excellent. However the public areas of the facility are dark, run down, and dirty. The main lobby is painted dark colors with shoddy repairs to the drywall. Lighting is poor and no effort has been made to improve the situation. My trip to post op was in a dirty staff elevator, the post op room as bad as the main lobby. The surgical waiting room was more of the same with multiple stains on the carpet. Although the staff was great and the OR itself appeared to be in good condition the condition of the public areas added greatly to my anxiety about my upcoming surgery. Where else are corners being cut? The attached photos are of the OR waiting room. The best of the rooms mentioned. Stains on carpet are visible if you zoom

Oh my goodness, the care I got the kindness I got there was amazing. The people at the front desk kind understanding and helpful. The nurses in the back or great willing to listen and you consider caring hearts. Carry over at orthopedic oh my gosh she’s got huge shoulders to listen ears to listen you can tell she loves her job and she cares and loves her patients. And Dr. Gilligan oh my goodness. his bedside manner is amazing. He talks to you he listens to you. He cares about how you feel. He cares. He’s just a wonderful man. He has a beautiful staff. I am so so so glad I went to see him over at Lovelace. All I can say is I’m blessed to have a staff helping me like that.

Let me start by saying I myself am an RN so it was incredibly hard for me to accept I was the patient. I didn’t want to bother by pushing the call light but I am dealing with excruciating back pain so I had no choice. The charge nurse Meghan Medlin is ABSOLUTELY amazing! The compassion she showed me, I will never forget. She has a true heart for caring for her patients and making them feel comfortable. I will definitely be nominating her for the Daisy Award. I cannot thank her enough for her kindness, compassion and overall understanding. Lovelace, she is a keeper and deserves to be recognized

I have a history of heart issues including atrial fibrillation and heart attack. I developed chest pain last week and felt i prudent to go to the ER at the Heart Hospital, especially since I was scheduled to travel to Italy one week later. I was immediately taken in and prompt attention was given. They kept me over night and multiple tests were run which concluded that my pain was not heart related. Nearly all of the personnel were kind, caring and supportive. I highly recommend the Heart Hospital, especially these days in New Mexico!

My mother in law was cared for on the fifth floor for almost a week. I was very impressed as they were careful to diagnose and understand clearly what was going on with her. It seemed like the process was taking way too long, however, they needed the time to understand. And although my mother in law didn't make it, she was treated exceptionally well. She was very ill and fragile, and I am grateful for the doctors and nurses caring and careful approach. Thank you all so much for balancing risk vs benefit in a complex situation.

I was seen and treated at the ER by Dr Davenport for head and facial injuries, etc., sustained in a fall. Dr Davenport was amazing- very professional, thorough, and very compassionate. I was impressed at his thoroughness and his ongoing communication with us. An RN, Jason, was equally outstanding. I have both of them to thank for explaining each step of the way and for creating a caring atmosphere in which I received the best care possible. I thank these two professionals immensely.

My husband was taken by ambulance for pancreatic attack with horrific pain. The transport was at midnight and by 6:30 am, he was discharged. He was still nauseous and in pain. He’s 89 years of age and should have been kept for observation at least til his condition was better. As his wife, I cared for him at home and was highly disappointed with Lovelace for discharging him prematurely. It took him a week before he was pain free and able to resume a light diet.

I was having severe back and chest pains. I arrived at the Heart Hospital and was triaged quickly and professionally. I spent several days and nights at the hospital in order to run tests and deternmine the outcome. The good news is, it wasn't my heart but I will need a follow up with a neurosurgeon. Absolutely, the very best care from my doctors and nurses! I've always trusted Lovelace and I'm grateful for their care, consideration, and kindness! Thank you!

Very unprofessional and very inconsiderate of the people there needing help this is so sad to go through when all I needed was help not attitude and disrespect for going to a place that is meant for that I feel so disrespected after this visit. Employees only care to socialize with each other then help patients. So why are they in this job ? Do they even really care or are they there for a Free check to ignore patients??..

Dr. Gilligan did my hip replacement surgery. His staff and him are outstanding and they made the whole process easy for me. I appreciate how they communicated with me and everyone are down to earth. I also appreciate the anesthesiologists Dr. Elliot S. Marcus. He explained the whole process and he even visit me in the recovery room. God bless everyone through the whole process and making me feel better. Thank you!

I had a chemical heart stress test at the Heart Hospital of New Mexico. Everyone was polite, kind professional. There were two nurses and an ultrasound technician. The test was prompt, painless and thorough. I was very pleased with their communication to one another concerning my vital signs. I was very pleased. I would highly recommend this test at the Heart Hospital of New Mexico. Dana Nighswonger,MD

Extremely not happy with some of the staff. I’ve gone to Lovelace for so long and it was always my go to hospital not anymore. The staff is rude and makes you feel like just another number. They don’t have that care for you as a patient you can see by their impressions expressions are when they are present. No one seems to know anything and you have to wait longer until they figure it out.

  • Brian Swenson

The actual surgery went very well and the Dr who performed it was great. I gave it a three star because of their release performance. It took awhile to sign off on the release paperwork and I came to find out they "lost' some of my clothing. My jacket and shirt were just gone. I find that was poor customer service on their part. Kudos to the Dr and her staff. They were spectacular.

  • April Vezie

Lousy patient care. Husband waited over 24 hours for decision on whether he'd receive surgery for perforated bowel, while bleeding internally and infection spreading throughout abdomen. They did nothing but hang some antibiotics but no decision. No mention of blood despite critical blood counts and good luck finding a nurse that follows through. We signed out and went to UNMH

Overall the staff was friendly and accomidating. However, my initial appointment to see the PA was at 10 am. She finally arrived at about 12 noon. After getting the recommended tests and imaging done and informing the PA that the results were available I'm still waiting for a call back over a week later. This is after waiting a month just to have an appointment.

My son sustained an eye injury at school. I took him to Lovelace ER where he was taken back immediately. The staff worked on him for over an hour - probably close to 2 hours. They kept us informed at all times and showed great care with him. It was definitely the best ER experience we've ever had and I highly recommend using Lovelace for all emergency needs.

Lovelace orthopedics on Montgomery has been wonderful to work with. They communicate clearly, start appointments on time, call me when there’s a problem and have generally made my knee replacement easier. Thank you everyone in Dr. Werner’s office for taking such good care of me. ❤️

  • Margarita Romero

Great hospital. I had children with me and needed something to do because children we not allowed in. There is a park right behind the school and parking buildings just around the block and I wanted to let people know because it is definitely a sight to see. It’s a beautiful park.

  • Daniel Carbajal

Went to ER and we were attended right away, very professional, except for the person trying to draw blood, wasn't experience and didn't deserve to be doing it, another one came in and drew blood quickly. All staff was kind, compassionate and professional.

  • Gary Dean

I've had four procedures at Lovelace Medical Center and all of them were successful. The medical staffs were all professional and friendly. I'm hoping I don't need more surgeries, but if I do, that's where I will go.

  • Scott Richmond

I was treated in a timely manner. The radiology staff were thoughtful, respectful and cared. I was glad I went to them and was grateful for their effort.
