Rude staff, mediocre baked good, worst customer service I’ve received. Tried to place an order earlier in the week over the phone, left a voicemail, no one got back to me. Drove across town to the bakery itself, to place my order directly. Talked to James, he was actually the only polite and friendly person I’ve interacted with there. He assured me everything would be ready for me to pick up a few days later. When the day came (Friday), I called in the morning to make sure everything would be ready and accounted for. The guy on the other line assured me it would be ready to pick up by 5pm. I got there at 5pm, and when I asked the clerk about the order, he looked confused, said he was going to look for it. Then I waited… I waited there for 20min. Nothing was said, no update, no communication whatsoever. It’s like they looked through me. This is probably the real live version of being ghosted. Every-time I tried to make eye contact with a staff member, they would look in the other direction, or turn their back away to clean the counter. When I tell you this was one of the most awkward retail experience of my life… When I eventually get the attention of someone, he tells me with a straight face “just give them 20min, they forgot to make the cupcakes”. The nonchalant tone, and lack of apology sincerely made me think I heard that wrong. Like there is no way I’m waiting 40minutes total for an order I physically placed days prior, and checked on the day of. Got my cupcakes eventually, the cashier practically through them at me and turned around, again no apologies. Anyway… Spare yourself the trouble, there is tons of place around that won’t put you through this. I recommend Pitchoun! bakery up the street, and also and bakery at Farmers Market by the grove.

The most disappointing experience ever. Magnolia Bakery has long been a family favorite and a tradition whenever we are in La and NYC. We will *never* go back to the La location and pray that the NYC one is still the same as it used to be. Not sure if it’s because they changed ownership in 2021 but not only did we notice the store which used to smell of fresh baked cakes and cupcakes smelt like an old, musty kitchen but the decor and tables etc were dirty as well as the glass counters. We proceeded to order… the banana pudding was scooped out of huge plastic tubs which we have never ever seen done before. It was very off putting, however we decided to still purchase our items. We left and got home excited to share our magnolia cupcakes and pudding with out of town guests and the moment we picked up the cupcakes we knew it was a disaster. The cupcakes were ROCK hard. Not slightly firm, literally you could tap the top of them with your finger and hear it. We cut into one and took a bite only to spit it out. This is such a shame for a business who had such a great heart and soul to slip so badly. I would never recommend anyone go back as it was truly such an awful experience. The smell of the store should have sent us straight out but we had faith in the old magnolia! Sad to have lost the freshness and beautiful baked goods of Magnolia Bakery :(

When you go to Magnolia Bakery, especially when it's the only location on the West Coast, you expect phenomenal baked goods and banana pudding. This is by far the worst branch of Magnolia we have ever had the displeasure of visiting. Forget about getting your favourite cheesecakes or cakes... all they had available was chocolate cake and vanilla cake and a handful of cupcakes. We asked about whether they had carrot cake available, and they told us it would be available at 4pm. We called at 4pm, and they told us "maybe in an hour". We called after an hour, and they told us they would maybe make it the following day. Are you kidding me? To further add insult to injury, our banana pudding had ZERO nilla cookies in it.. what were the bakers thinking? Is there any quality control to verify the recipes? What a monumental disappointment. They tasted old and not fresh. We purposely bought two large tubs of it to take back with us to Canada, and going through Canadian Customs with these was a nightmare, only to find out that they were absolutely terrible. This location, unfortunately, does a bad job at representing Magnolia Bakery. Management needs to re-evaluate and drastically improve the quality and availability of the baked goods here.

From NY to LA, the Magnolia Bakery never disappoints. For this LA location, you are able to place your orders online for same day or future orders. Local delivery is available through Seamless, DoorDash, GrubHub and UberEats. National deliveries is also available. You can also visit the bakery to pick out your favorite desserts. Limit of 5 people inside the lobby and face mask is required for service. Service is welcoming as always and if you know what you’re looking for, then the line isn’t bad at all. The banana pudding was stellar as always and oh my goodness on the Tres Leches cake. Moist cake, pleasant sweetness, topped with fresh blueberries. Loved it! Don’t forget to order your October treats from Halloween Banana Pudding kits, Candy Corn or Monster cakes and of course, their classic Halloween cupcakes. November treats are already available online; fall chocolate cake, pumpkin gingersnap banana pudding, apple pie, pecan pies and the Yummilicious Hummingbird cake. Enjoy and be safe!

Magnolia LA to the rescue - the day before my son’s first birthday, my original baker had to (responsibly) cancel our order because of the flu. Cakeless and 17 hours before the party, I made a Hail Mary visit to Magnolia LA at closing time, not expecting anything given their popularity and the hour. Instead, Mo and the Magnolia team had many full cakes left to give. It demonstrated to me that the store does a great job managing a reliable inventory all the way to the closing hour! Mo did an excellent job decorating the cake (I gave her full poetic license, turned out great), and she gave grateful practical advice about how many the cake could serve (I needed to feed 20, and Mo correctly assured me that the the full cake could handle it even if the marketed serving is 12 - after all, the “slices” that Magnolia uses for reference are massively generous). It was a great first experience with this store, and they are now our cake shop of first choice. Thank you Mo and Magnolia team!

Everything we ordered was good! I love it when you can taste the flavor before sweetness. We got the classic banana pudding, blueberry something and a smores cupcake. The banana pudding was good and although I rarely give my baby sweets and when I do it's no more than a taste, I gave him a few spoonfuls because it wasn't too sweet and had big chunks of bananas, which are his favorite. The blueberry thing was also good, it was slightly sweet and packed with blueberries. But, the cupcake wasn't. Cinnamon was the front flavor, and I don't really like cinnamon and didn't expect to taste it in a smores cupcake. My server was new and didn't know anything about any dessert, and it gave me anxiety because we had a lot of questions, and the line was forming quickly behind me. They could probably ensure new hires are well trained or the labels are more detailed so basic questions can easily be answered. Overall, I'll be visiting again to try some others desserts.

The NY bakery chain that started the cupcake craze in the 90’s opened its Los Angeles store in 2011. It has since expanded nationwide and internationally under Steve Abram who took over from the originally owners. Every time I go to NY, I always stopped by Magnolia Bakery in Manhattan on 11 st. to pick up my favorite sweets. I love all their puddings and cupcakes. I have not been to the LA location until today. We stopped by this shop after Easter brunch at Granville down the street. The cupcakes are just as good as the ones in NY. The texture of the cakes are awesome and they are not too sweet. The good thing here is that there is no long line. We got a pecan cheese cake and a banana key lime cake. They both tasted fantastic. The puddings are soft and creamy. You can buy these cupcakes in a dozen and they are perfect for gift giving.

Many thanks to BJ who went WAY beyond the call of duty today. Having confused the dates, I needed a cake at the last minute. When I called three other bakeries and told them any cake would do, they quickly told me they could not even discuss a same day order. Being out of state, I had limited options. So, when I finally called Magnolia Bakery in Los Angeles, I was blessed to have BJ answer the phone. He immediately empathized with me. He put me on hold and spent several minutes making an inventory of EVERY cake and several other options that they had available. So kind! A few minutes ago, I received a text from Los Angeles. “Did you send the cake? It looks amazing!” Indeed it did. The cake and other deserts were delicious and BJ apparently through some ice cream in as well. Great Bakery and Great staff! Thanks Magnolia Bakery!!!!

What you see online is not what you get. I feel like this is the wish version of the iconic NYC store. Store seemed tired, dusty, and sad. All of the pastry / cake covers were old and cracked and looked like they were stuck in a dish washer instead of hand washed. The sign said closed, no parking so i called 6x and no one answered. At this point using a Covid abs staffing shortage issue as an excuse doesn’t work as there were plenty of staff. And it’s been over 2 years so time to step up and adjust.. The staff had 0 energy and seemed to not be passionate about pastries. The carrot cake pudding seemed like they just shoved it into the container a week ago with lots of icing not pudding but wasn’t for sure if that was there goal or not. Over all was not excited that i drove 2.5 hrs for this.

I’m new to LA so haven’t been many places here. My friend suggested this place for a sweet treat! I wanted to make sure the employees working tonight got recognition. The second I walked in, it was an upbeat pleasant vibe, everyone was smiling ear to ear and quick to service. I could tell the people behind the counter really enjoyed their job. I had an issue with the online order system and explained that to one of the gentlemen working, he went above and beyond to make sure I was taken care of. I wish I got his name, but I didn’t catch it. I will say though, for the credit it was the employees working Saturday night 7:00pm September 9th on 8389 W 3rd St. I hope the manager will praise these great employees. I will be a forever customer now of this amazing bakery :)

I recently ordered a custom cake for a special celebration from this local bakery, and I couldn't be happier with the result. The cake was not only a work of art but also tasted absolutely delicious. The attention to detail was remarkable, and the staff was incredibly accommodating. Moreover, the price was incredibly reasonable for the quality and artistry that went into the cake. I highly recommend this bakery for any special occasion. They truly exceeded my expectations!

I went to this place with my family over the weekend. It was really crowded lots of high energy, the banana pudding, which is what we went to get it was pretty good, but the service that I received from Moe wasn’t good at all! I could tell by the way we were treated that she had some sort of bias. I’m not sure if it was because of my Mixed race family, or if she didn’t take my level of excitement in a positive way however, I watched her serve other customers as she made me wait to the side and served them the exact thing I was waiting for! when I tried to call her attention back to the fact that she asked me to wait aside, she ignored me. a colleague of hers Had to rectify the situation, disappointed in the service, but the food was OK.

Abandon ship ! This once beloved icon has hit rock bottom in their LA location. From the baked goods to the ambiance. We entered to the sound's lyrical fixation with dark themes of doom, misery and distorted guitars blaring from the kitchen. Our pre ordered pumpkin pie was the saddest thing you ever saw burned on the top withered with dry crust and terribly seasoned . It could only belong one place: the pie hall of shame. We are long time fans of this bakery but since the pandemic they have just not come back to life in the fresh baked good department. Seems there pre-made mixes on your supermarket shelf is the new focus. Do yourself a favor and walk across the streets to Joan's On Third , they love to bake and it shows.

I order Magnolia Bakery a couple times a week for breakfast. I love their cupcakes with buttercream , any kind. I would like to point out i have a very sensitive stomach, which caters to expensive taste with natural and fresh products. I can never eat store bought cupcakes because they have too many chemicals and procession, which makes me sick. The cupcakes from Magnolia Bakery are always top quality, with fresh butter and dough. Thanks a lot for being so on point with the quality of the food guys! Hope to visit you in person soon.

Magnolia was such a wonderful bakery. We knew things could go wrong when they decided to invest in opening other locations besides west village. They can’t even sustain the banana pudding quality anymore. I ordered the humming bird cake (one of the very few recipes they managed to keep it high quality) - that has changed based on my latest order. The person over the phone didn’t care about my feedback (why would he? Likely earning minimum wage). One successful bakery turning into a mediocre business. Don’t waste your time - search for better bakeries around LA moving forward

Honestly, the banana pudding at Magnolia Bakery in LA was pretty disappointing. I had very high hopes for this place and drove from OC just for this. The flavors didn't really come together well, and pudding lacked any oomph. The texture felt off, and I couldn't finish the portion, which isn’t much for the price. I've had much better banana pudding at other places, and at family gatherings so I wouldn't really recommend it here. The cookies were okay, and the cake was way too sweet. Susie cakes is a much better option for cakes/cookies. The service was pretty disappointing too and not very helpful.

  • Haley Ann

Me and my roommate both ate the cupcakes from here and started having severe stomach cramps, vomiting, and diarrhea. They didn't seem to taste "bad," but they were really dry which is all we seemed to notice. Even woke up with abdominal cramping and more diarrhea. Symptoms started 30 mins to an hour after consuming. It was ordered through Doordash and now they are wanting "medical documents" so I can get a refund. My copay is 2x the cost of the food order and that seems absolutely unfair that this food makes us sick and now we need to pay more for these companies mistakes. What a joke.

I've been coming to Magnolia Bakery on 3rd for a little over a year now, with this review long overdue. Magnolia is consistent with their excellent desserts, and even more consistent with their incredible service. Mo, who works the counter, always makes you feel at home with her warm welcome and impeccable service. She is one of the main reasons I am always coming back. Be sure to ask for her recommendations, because she never misses. Whenever I order something from Magnolia, it's difficult making it back to my house without devouring everything before I walk in the door.

  • Topher Forsyth

This place is fire. All Around. The sweet treats are second to none, and the selection is huge, but the good doesn't stop there. The staff is great, in particular Mo - she is fantastic. She's not only knowledgeable about literally everything in the bakery - but if asked - she will help you decide when you just can't pick between options. She's super cool, and lights the place up with her personality. Honestly, she's half the reason my wife and I keep going back! This place is a must-visit, but be careful - it only takes once to get hooked.

  • Gonzo- Reviews-N-Eats

Drove 2.5 hrs away to try this bakery and was quick disappointed. I bought a cupcake, chocolate cheesecake and banana pudding. I will start with the cupcake it was dry and dense less, the cheesecake tasted like refrigerator and I could tell it was not fresh because the outer layer of the cheesecake was hardened. Lastly how could you call it banana pudding when there is no pudding in it, it was all banana and whipped cream. What a huge disappointment

Dear the founder of magnolia bakery, I'm sincerely grateful that I have experienced your banana pudding in my life. It was the most delicious food i ate in my entire life. When i consume your banana pudding, i hear the voices of angels in my head. I'm so happy to be living in the same generation as you. Best wishes,

This bakery in West Hollywood was such a sweet surprise. As soon as you walk in the front door, it makes you feel welcome. It had such a classic homey atmosphere, and smelled wonderful. The service was friendly and quick. Cupcakes are about $3.50 (the vanilla buttermilk icing is to die for) and the slices of cake are about $7. They also offer personal pies, cookies, and other delicious pastries. Such a great find, and such a great little bakery.

  • Loren Cooper

This is one of those places that I found by accident. I heard banana pudding and I had to try it but the cakes are unbelievable. My favorite is carrot cake and they've also made it a carrot cake pudding as well. Unbelievable. You can't go wrong. I have a few photos. I'll add more. Enjoy! Take your time, tip and be nice. It takes time to go through this place so there will be a small line sometime. If there's no line, you're blessed. Enjoy

Tried to order a birthday cake online, no order distinction between billing and delivery address; unable to process. Called to place order at store and was told to call back in 15 minutes because they were busy .. even though they actually answered the phone. You'll notice the "local guides" love this place but people/customers that actually are trying to order have a horrible experience. LA has plenty of good bakeries - try someone else.

  • Christy Weinstein

Really disappointed in our recent Thanksgiving order! The pumpkin pie we ordered was burnt around the edges, way overdone, and overspiced, not to mention, super small for the price! We also had an order of the holiday bread pudding, portion was super small and over spiced too. Expected better from Magnolia!

Like this place. Their pastries a delicious! Love their red velvet cheesecake... I’m not a fan of cheesecake but i love eating a spoon of two. Trying their red velvet banana pudding today. Just know that due to covid , no more than 5 people inside the bakery. So you’re going to have to wait in line outside. And of course parking its a hastle. Can’t really park on the neighborhood area unless u have a parking permit.

Went here Sunday (10/2/22) and got an order to go and was shocked and grossed out when I got home and saw two flies in the bottom of my coffee! I posted this on Yelp but it's not showing my review for some reason. I also emailed them and have yet to be refunded. I went to the NYC location numerous times when I Iived there and never had issues. I've never had a fly in my coffee, let alone two.

  • Jun

seasonal cold brew banana pudding - tasty but would be better without the chocolate chip overload. came in on a Sun at 11am. store seemed dead - no greeting and small selection despite the space. they were still making the seasonal flavor (2 hours after opening??) and I opted to wait. overall, not worth a trip out, would recommend going to one in NYC with more flavors and friendlier service.

  • Olga

I absolutely love this bakery. Their banana pudding is to die for and their cakes make me salivate everytime I think about them. Chocolate with vanilla frosting, hummingbird, chocolate with chocolate frosting, cheesecakes, I don't know what is not delicious here. Only thing I'm little bit sad about - they don't have all the selection as their NY location. But they ship! Absolutely recommend

  • Jimmy Harris

You have not tried banana pudding until you've tried Magnolia Bakery's banana pudding. It's incredibly fluffy, the nilla wafers still have some texture and it has just the right amount of sweetness. I can knock back an entire tub or their "Large" in one sitting. I recommend to eat it immediately or within a day of purchase so the bananas are still fresh and the wafers still have some bite.

  • Andra Cojocaru

OK. The bakery is cute and this review is more about my feeling about banana pudding...I DONT LIKE IT! I read so many reviews raving about the bread pudding, not taking into account my feelings about it, and it was OK. I was ready for the "best banana pudding in the world", and it might be. But please don't buy it if you don't like banana pudding, 186 reviews aside. Learn from my mistake.

  • Carnivore Carlos

We came for the banana pudding. The reviews on tik tok said it was delicious. I'd have to respectfully disagree. The banana pudding was mediocre. It was missing something and left me disappointed. I also ordered a Carmel cheesecake and it was pretty good..y wife ordered the specialty flavored apple pudding and it was marvelous.

My family always come to Magnolia’s Bakery to get my sister’s birthday cake. I love the atmosphere and the pastries. It’s always really clean and the the staff is very kind and helpful. I recently tired their iced latte and it was amazing! The only down side to this place is that its a little pricy but for a once a year splurge it’s fine with me.

  • Kevin Chau

Been hearing about this place everywhere and we knew it was a popular place so finally decided to give it a try. Obviously got their famous banana pudding and I gotta agree one of the best banana puddings I've ever had. We also got the vanilla cheesecake which had the perfect cake to graham cracker crust ratio. Will definitely go here again.

  • M

Pretty good! Got a funfetti cupcake and banana pudding since so many people raved about it. Both were good! The cupcake was moist, sweet, and flavorful. I've never had banana pudding before so I have nothing to compare it to, but it was pretty good. Prices are kinda high but nothing unexpected for the area and name. Overall I recommend!

  • John Noland

I'm not a big fan of cupcake stores in general. I usually find the cake part to be too dry. That was definitely true for my red velvet cupcake. The vanilla and chocolate were better. I just tasted the banana pudding and it was amazing . Maybe not so much if you're not a fan of bananas. My peanut butter cookie was also very good.

  • Miguel Avila

We go here for their banana pudding, which is worth the traffic to get there. This last time they had these mini cheesecake cupcake things that looked delicious. They had vanilla, red velvet and blueberry so we tried the red velvet. Very disappointing, as it didn't taste like red velvet, it just tasted like cheesecake.

One of the better chain bakeries in our great Nation. The chocolate banana cake will change your life. The Banana pudding is pretty good given this places Yankee roots and the other assorted pastries are mouthwatering. This is a great place to get housewarming or other similar gifts.

3rd time in a row I’m told the banana pudding is sold out. What’s the point? Clearly bad planning and profit margin over customers — I won’t be trying again late night coming by again. You guys are dead to me. Fail. At least I saved some calories.

Enjoyed a dessert breakfast here solely because of finding their NYC Instagram page. The hype is real. Delicious! Pudding is where it's at. Light & not too sweet. Some of the best cake I've had.
