I’ve been a member of the Mars Bar family since moving into a loft directly across the street in 2006 & since have moved but it is when I fell upon the local bar, hang & music place of business. Their food has always been extraordinary for “bar food” & the music is some of the best of all bars hands down. Friends of 20 plus years enjoying the space ritually for many occasions. Moving next door was a bonus literally. Even though we already knew mars was the place to be for countless after parties for huge loft parties over the holidays & even where we celebrated wakes for those who have gone to soon. I truly believe it is quintessential SF legacy bar community there at the premium. A hang for techies at lunch that is clean, comfortable & low pro. It’s always been that place for many. Has never failed. And is worth visiting when in the city from Petaluma now. I’ve popped in but the owner was not there on a few occasions & seem familiar faces. That’s the mars it will always be. Thanks you guys! Best spot in SOMA for a quick burger & beer. Or for me a Moscow Mule.

Though the name is out of this world Mars Bar has been & continues to o be one of the best local bars/restaurants that San Francisco has to offer. Their success is not only because of the delicious food that is served out of their kitchen, or even the large variety of mixed drinks & draft or bottled beers... It is the hard working, friendly, staff. From the owner to the bartenders, wait staff, & kitchen workers, they understand the people, the locals, as well as the visitors from near and far. They make many reasonable accomadations for groups, offer an eclectic variety of music that people both young & not so young can enjoy and dance to. For years I've enjoyed the Sunday afternoon/evening DJ sessions where there's great House Music, that friendly staff and regulars. The owner gives many of the artist a platform to show talents when there are less opportunities for these artists in SF with the.fall off of the nightclub scene here. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND MARS BAR FOR AN OUT OF THIS WORLD EXPERIENCE THAT FEELS LIKE HOME!

Go. Find a spot and sit. Order a cheeseburger/fries or the fish and chips/fries. (You want the fries, trust me.) Don't forget the brew-(talking beer not tea.) Be kind. Be mindful. Be courteous to the staff because they rock. If it's a Friday, plan to stay a while. It's basically a party there! And if it's Monday, they are closed. GET YO LIFE RIGHT! Go here to do it though because the food helps. My bill has been $50 and it's been $100. Those Friday's were the $100 nights and worth it!

We just recently held a birthday party for my fiancé here for about 25 people. It was a very large group and on a Sunday so the place was pretty packed! I have to admit though the staff and owner of Mars definitely did a great job in accommodating us! Their service was great, and everyone had an amazing time. We all had the bottomless mimosas and the waitress was so good about always keeping us topped off. I would definitely recommended this place to anyone in SF for a great brunch spot! Thank you for the wonderful time you showed us and for working with us on such short notice!! F

It's just a bar, but the staff was sincerely NOT cool. I was there with an event that provided drink tickets—I asked for a (paid) booze upgrade ($6). Not only did I get 'tude about that, the bar staff was just generally unpleasant (I was told I'd be paying for the upgrade it at least 4 times after I said as much initially)—serving every single other person at the bar before us (even when we weren't using the drink tickets). The pizza was reminiscent of those microwave pizzas in the sleeves. Big disappointment. I won't be back nor recommend.

  • Guilherme Marques

This place is so cool! Went with a bunch of friends and got everything, from fries (with an amazing sauce), to tacos, cheese quesadillas (that guac!!) and some other stuff that I honestly won't remember. Drinks were great as well and we left to a corporate party. When the party was over we went BACK to this joint as they were still open and got tequilas, beers and other drinks that I also won't remember. Maybe it was the boose, maybe it was the friends, but we had a great time and that's what matters! #nopicsbuttrue

I'd heard years ago that Mars had the best hamburger and fries in town, but it took me a decade, fool that I am, to check it out for myself last week. In fact, what I'd heard underrates the quality. I've never tasted a better burger and fries in my life - a sensual experience of utter gratification, which I intend to repeat once a month. Just thinking about it without having it in front of me makes me want to bend over and keen with frustrated desire. Fellow hamburger lovers, take note. Mars is more than a must.

We happen to come across this bar during SF beer week. The bartenders are awesome here and they have the best beer specials. A flight of laguintas for $11- note the flight isn't your typical 2-3 ounce shot glass pours. These are full glasses - 2 pints and one 1/2 pint for $11! My husband and I each had a "flight" and were thoroughly satisfied. There is a pool table in back for .75 a game and an outdoor patio. There is also food ( burgers and fried things) We will definitely come back!

Nice spot and wonderful people. Good food ,and even though I have only eaten here once I have faith that everything else on menu is just as good as the burger was. Nice selection On tap and reasonable prices. Dog friendly, people friendly and just damned friendly perood. In midst of remodel , wish I could have seen before so I could be that much more impressed when done. I like this place and these people.hope you get a chance to stop in and enjoy the atmosphere.

  • Owen Lopez

I love this place. Staff is super cool and always servers me promptly. I am a frequent customer, so that may have something to do with it. I love to order the Mar's Burger with Apple wood smoked bacon, Swiss cheese, buffalo sauce and fresh diced jalapenos. It comes with onions, tomato, lettuce, fries and their spicy chipotle aioli dippin sauce. Decent selection of cocktails and they serve Moscow mules in those copper mugs, which is always a tasty choice.

  • Mandy Shimshock

Surprisingly good hole-in-the-wall dive bar. We stumbled upon this while looking for a new happy hour spot and it didn't disappoint. Seems to have a strong hockey and Giants following. Mars has good happy hour prices as well and the actual space of the area is hidden from the outside - decent bar area and outdoor patio as well. Delicious fries, but we haven't gone wrong with anything we've ordered there yet!

  • Craig Dalrymple

Having food and drinks on the patio is what Mars Bar is all about. It can get busy, but if you aren't in a rush and don't mind a crowd it's always a good time. Nice drinks, solid bar food, and a wonderful patio atmosphere! If you are looking for something intimate, that's where there's a miss. It's a good time, best with friends or coworkers who want to get their party on.

  • Mike M

Passing through town and stopped to give Mars bar a try. Dont judge it from the outside. Go in and enjoy the fun atmosphere and great people. Todays special was the fried chicken sandwich and it exceeded my expectations. The food was great and the people were equally good. If in the area you have to stop here. Im looking forward to visiting again next time im in the area.

  • Gralyn Jacques

I like the food bar. Alcohol selection is a bit limited, but over nice staff. Only been here once for a going away party for a friend. Crowd was light, friendly, and liked to dance. So that's always fun. Bartenders are great!

The Mars bar is a fun place to hang out with a group if you want both a bar and a restaurant. The food is pretty good and the back patio is nice if you have a lot of folks in your party. It's never been a favorite, and I only go if there's an event, but it's solid in it's food and drinks and it's a good location, though if you have to park it may not be so great.

  • Erica Brooks

Enjoy Mars every time I come. Salads are awesome, food is always fresh and tasty. Burgers are always good. Service is always excellent. Patio is great on sunny days. And an added bonus the music.

This is a great local joint. The food is good and inexpensive, the waiters are friendly, and there is a great little patio in the back (with heaters in case it gets cold). There is also a nice pool table that doesn't seem to be busy very much. Highly recommended for the neighborhood, but I probably wouldn't go out of my way to get here.

  • JC Belmont

Nice ambience and delicious food and tasty drinks! Sunday’s are house music Sundays with live DJs playing your favorite jams. This place has indoor and outdoor seating with a heated patio for cold weather days. It’s family friendly and their nachos are my favor to go food as well as their pizza is so good.

  • David T

Fun dive bar. People are great, beer selection on tap is great. Their sangria isn't really even close to being sangria and their cocktails were hit and miss. Ordered nachos to snack on which were passable but not great. Worth going to have a good time, just know this isn't a gastropub or cocktail bar.

  • Trevor Do

Amazing. Super experience. The cocktails were amazing. We ordered four, two each. Tried a variety. The food was spectacular. The quality and quantity was perfect. The service and outdoor diner was above expectations. The pattella was more than enough, the pork belly was succulent and flavorful.

  • Scott Elliott

The Mars burger is the hamburger by which I compare literally every other burger I eat. Always a solid house music DJ lineup on Sundays, with other events throughout the week. The owner and crew have become like family to me over the years.

This might be one of the best bars to get a drink and good food in all over the city. I moved near it earlier this year and my wife and I have been impressed every time. All the food is good. It's not your normal bar food at all. Staff is always great and drinks are poured right.

  • Dan Barzel

Rating is for lunch. They had a pretty good menu, but nothing was really that well done. I had a grilled turkey and cheese, and my partner at a salad. They serve romaine lettuce despite the ongoing E coli warnings. I found that odd. Not really bad, but nothing exceptional

  • scott sears

I like this place. I don't go to a lot of bars, but I don't usually see one person dedicated to just cleaning the bar. Kinda cool! I'd recommend this place. Plus wife says that this bar is really safe. She is a 911 dispatcher for the city; no call for this place! Nice!

  • Tom Elrod

Neat little place where not many other restaurants are nearby. Decent food. Ok selection of beer. Friendly staff... when they’re actually talking to you. Unfortunately, a couple bartenders oddly ignore you... one was busy texting with her back to the customers.

  • David Benallie

The bartenders are extremely attentative, courteous, personable and witty! They make your experience enjoyable!!! Very diverse crowd; no HATERS; Only people with open minds and good hearts that treat people exactly the way they would want to be treated....

  • Will Zhang

Good happy hour place for getting a pitcher with people after work. Usually not too crowded. There's a lot of space outdoors in the back. Drinks and food are fairly priced, and there's usually a special for each day of the week (ex. Taco/Tecate Tuesdays)

  • Gold Bond

The place offered exactly what I was seeking a spot at the bar to sit a some cheap drinks. Ordered a beer and bourbon and the pour was spot on. Don't come here for quite conversation as the music is loud which adds to the divey nature of the place.

  • Chris Koehncke

Border dive bar. Attracts younger set, bar but I wouldn't press them for fancy cocktails and obviously beer. Outdoor area is chilly and stark. Didn't try food, but classic basket bar food. Simply put - it's OK but not worth any special detour.

  • Alex h

This comment only covers my experience sitting at the bar, i did not try the food as i was not hungry but the drinks werent cheap and it was totally understaffed, but i feel like it could have been a nice place if i didnt go during rush hour

  • Jon Chan

What a pleasant find of a dive bar. The SF beer week deals were great - a tasting of either Lagunitas or Firestone beers on tap (3 beers each) for $11, and in mean full size beers! Mars also has a pool table and some outside seating as well

  • B D

Great staff, great patio, Kelly is the BEST!! Pool table, sports on TV, although they could definitely upgrade their sports package, patio is super cozy with a large heat lamp for chilly evenings. Great DJ music in the evenings!

  • Geraud Gonzales

The food was good here and i was really surprised to see they have a huge dance and outdoor space. Ill update my review when we come for an event night but i enjoyed my first visit. Really friendly bartender and a chill vibe.

  • David D

It's a good little dive bar with a small beer selection and a nice little outdoor seating area - and it doesn't advertise itself as anything else. Parking here can be crowded and expensive (but why would you drive to a bar?)

  • Mr. X XX

We usually go on Sunday afternoons for house music and some drinks. The pool table is pushed into a corner and becomes the DJ table. Ordered some calamari and steak skewers for eating on the patio... I will keep coming back!

  • Drew Conner

Food and drinks were great; I ordered a burger after walking around town for a bit and it hit the spot. Exactly what I needed and the fries were good too. Best part was the good atmosphere from the staff and other customers.

  • Croix Vasquez

Five stars. Love this place. One of my favorite neighborhood bars in San Francisco. The food is outstanding and they have big portions. Great beer and spirits collection! Outgoing and welcoming staff! Highly recommend!

  • P Game

The Mars bar is a great place to have fun. I don't see why more people don't know about this spot? They have awesome food, good DJs, and very decent drinks. Anyone can enjoy a Sunday afternoon here when its open.

  • Kurt Nelson

The KSA keg was definitely on the old side, my coworkers chicken salad came out without any of the toppings including the chicken, and the food is very meh. I know there are limited options in the neighborhood.

  • Joel Conway

Bomb food, great servers/staff who were very attentive but not overbearing. Great cocktails and super COLD beers on tap. Their patio rules and you can always find great djs playing good house and disco music.

  • MissYumi8

Great bar to have drink, bite, or gather with friends! Food here is awesome and they have a great patio! Their music and events never disappoint! Definitely a San Francisco staple and a great place to hang.

  • Joleen Taitano

We went for Superbowl and the staff was amazing! Our waitress was on top of everything even though it was super crowded! The Owner is hilarious and an awesome guy!! Definitely will return to Mars Bar!!

  • Jim Watt

Good prices on happy hour food. I'm no pizza snob but I think they could do more there, or even raise it a couple dollars for better ingredients. Beer an other food wasn't bad though, I'd go back.

  • Jeremy Robinson

What a cool venue! From the spacious and airy interior spaces to the unique patio out back, there is no shortage of places to grab a drink and chat with your friends. So many good memories here!

  • Mimi McNamara

This bar is my "CHEERS"! Great staff and they make a great Lemondrop! The food is quality, the patio is a great place to chill and chat...overall casual atmoshere...... highly recommend this bar

  • Austin Schneider

What could pass as an In-N-Out burger is actually Mars’ “specialty”. In fact, the only thing special about the burger is that it’s $15 and doesn’t come with sauce or cheese. Avoid when possible.

  • Matt Kissick

Fun little bar with a good list of beers. Don't expect the best cocktail in the city but if you want a good cheap drink with your friends this is a solid place. Great heating on the patio too.

  • J H

Awesome bartenders and their food never cease to amaze me. Their fries with aoila sauce, grilled salmon with spring mix salad and wings- them wannnngs tho! All in all, I love this place!

We love Mars bar! It's the perfect SOMA neighborhood bar, always within walking distance when you need someplace fun to hang out. The food is great, and there's always good music.

  • Marianne Cruzat

Their pizza special was fresh & delicious (and they had fancy fresh grated parmesan cheese instead of the typical shaker) and the owner was so nice! Will be coming back again!

  • Connor Walker

If this is your local you are lucky to be surrounded by chill happy people. bring a jacket if you want to hangout outside as they don't always have the overhead lamps on

  • Norma Ruiz

Local dive bar and restaurant that has been in SOMA for 20 plus yrs! Great place for lunch or a drink after work. The food is good too. I really like the fish n chips.

Basic slightly divey, slightly pub-like bar. No real reason to go here unless you live or work in the area. Still, it could be worse.
