Sadly our Saturday morning shopping adventures was ruined by our visit to MacDonalds in Hillcrest. To begin with we had two staff hovering over us when we tried to order on the automated system, when we did ask for assistance to find the chicken nuggets, he did not know how, we asked the other lady and she told us it's not on the automated menu, we need to order it at the counter, to which I replied why don't we just order our entire meal there to save us the trouble of back and forth, she insisted that's not how it's done, we could not order at the counter. I asked her if that made any sense, why are there cashiers there and what I'd I walk out because if such a silly rule, is MacDonalds willing to loose a customer because off a rule I have never been forced to adhere to at a MacDonalds. To which she simply said that's how we do things. She did not leave us to finish our order, she insisted on "helping", I wanted a Nazo meal, she asks why don't I take a chicken big Mac, I said I'm going to order s big Mac by itself but I want to try the Nazo Meal, she says it's R39, I said but why do you advertise on the radio that it's R29, she says there the small one, I said there fine, that's what I want, I want to try something new and I'm adding the big Mac if it's too small. Then there was a similar debate as to whether I wanted beef or chicken, she insisted I take chicken. Honestly the experience was frustratingly annoying. My husband was annoyed because he thought I was being difficult. Then my child was upset because the play area was closed. I'm only speculating here but all play areas are open and apparently this one has been closed since COVID started. I think they were just to lazy to man the section. When I paid she was very annoyed with me and I felt like saying I am the one who should be annoyed when in fact I was actually having s good day until you tried to force your ideas on me

But just maybe if she took the time to really listen about what I’m ordering, and not ask “large?” one millisecond after I state one thing and give me time to register, I might actually have looked more into the menu, and might’ve taken the suggestion! Overall, 3 points have to be made - I know that egg shells might give an extra crunch to my muffin but it’s not appreciated - when I say I want a coffee, I don’t mean can I please have full cream milk by itself - give people time to register what their getting so there is a much clearer understanding and better experience

Horrible experience, ordered a big mac large meal with a strawberry milkshake and a grand chicken burger meal. They didn't have strawberry, asked me if i would take vanilla or chocolate instead, I chose vanilla and once home i took a sip and it was chocolate. That would have been ok in isolation but when we opened the grand chicken burger, the bottom bun was missing. One mistake is totally understandable but the culmination of incorrect order given, missing components to order, no answer on their direct line, the manager number provided on receipt is for a person that hasn't worked for them in 2 years and the variations of my order not possible from the "smart" order screen (eventhough the options are advertised on posters) made this a horrible experience overall.

Standard McDonald's procedure but I really appreciated that my food was hot (too hot almost) which tells me it was freshly prepared. The lettuce was crunchy and fresh, patty was fresh and crispy (veggie burger) and I enjoyed the meal overall. Decent wait time. A vast improvement from the last time I visited this branch. My only gripe, which is petty considering where we are (and this is obviously across KZN than specific to this hillcrest branch) is that the nice lady took my order in English and when I got to the payment window she switched to Zulu and had a wee attitude at the payment window... I'm not Zulu, lol what changed in that gap between the order and payment sections? Otherwise y'know... standard McDonald's procedure. Well done!

I did a takeawày for myself and 3 grand daughter's and the lady in the front helped me navigate through the complicated big screen self order. Then I left my car keys and my wallet on the counter as I carried kids and food to the unlocked car. After finishing our food I started to hunt for my keys eventually getting out of the car to look under it. The front lady inside came out to ask if I had lost something. I said my car keys which she indicated were inside and then she asked me if there was something else I'd lost. I could not think of anything until she said " what about your wallet?"...I had not missed it yet. Both items had been locked away in the office and were returned to me. I was do very grateful to the staff

Staff didn't know fully how the self-service kiosk scanners work. One day they tell you 'it only works at the counter', the next 'next time try the kiosk, next time you know'. So I've lost over 8000 rewards pts at this McDonalds alone. A friend managed to take a photo of my QR code before it ran out and not only did the staff give us grief for doing that, it actually crashed the cashier machine when we scanned it. The food service team are solid, the food is usually well served. Kiosk & cashier crew don't seem to care that kiosk scanners are broken and look at the customer like, "i dunno, try another one" so in the end you lose points & have to place your whole order again at the cashier and waste more time.

I asked someone who works at a food store that I wanted a real Chicken burger, chicken breast and he gave me a chicken Patty. Being utterly confused what REAL + Chicken meant. I am not sure what kind of training goes on these days. Because a processed burger made of minced chicken and actual chicken breast are not to be confused. 10 times explaining I wanted CHICKEN Breast fillet went on poorly trained ears. When I finally got it swapped it was dry and overcooked. The place is very nice looking and yes the staff were helpful, but the guy "helping" me should be properly trained. After all you work in food so know what a Chicken Breast is.

Worst place ever!!!!wanted to go to the drive through stood in line for 15 min at a time never ever moved an inch! Got out my car and orders at the counter whiles there was a problem with the help service machine. Orders 2 large fries and a soft serve. About 20 minutes later I got my tasteless ice cream and my 2 large fries that were not Mc Donalds Standard!Fries were dry ,cold and old!!!!! Needless to say gave the fries to one of my dog that vomited them up towards the evening. Well done Mc Donald for your S......service!Will never ever order from Hillcrest Mc Donald again!!!

Ok, so we in the computer age... went in to order the new Chips and chilly cheese sauce, but no talking to a person at the counter. Digital kiosk is where you choose what you want. Its different and a little disconcerting the first time i guess. There was a very helpful guy who actually did everything for me. Only thing is after i had placed the order did i see a banner promoting the chips with a drink for like R5 more. I feel of it were a person talking to me, or i was at the counter, this might have been brought to my attention better... but hey, thats just me. Chilly cheese chips were very yummy.

McDonald's hillcrest is one of THE BEST Micky Ds that you can lay your tastebuds on. A great clean environment, the meals are made fresh and are still warm when received. The only thing i find abit off putting about this Macdonalds is the approach by the staff, they come off as unwelcoming and rushed (even when not busy), they dont give you a fair chance to order before wanting you to proceed. Their chicken nuggets are the perfect example if i had to explain a perfect chicken nugget to another person!

The worst service experience ever. After incompetent processing of our order by Bongiwe I had the worst experience from the so called manager Nathi who was not able to resolve the issue caused by their incompetence. His solution to come back tomorrow to order another burger. That’s after driving a good 15km for dinner. Shocking, shocking service. Really need to train your staff on customer service etiquette. I had to be the considerate one for the rest of the customers after a 20 minute futile exercise with incompetent manager.

I have always received good service and food here, however tonight i was disappointed in my meal selection. I opted to try the new Big Tasty Foldover. Positive was that they were generous with the sauce (which the burger sometimes lack) however the big negative for me was the patties. In all honesty i should not even call them patties as they were the thinnest pieces of minced meat i have ever seen in my life! The meal might be a winner if you guys used the same patties as the burger, but with what i got tonight i feel ripped off.

We went to McDonald’s just before closing and we’ve had a couple issues in the past when we’ve come at this time. Tonight we ordered a grand chicken spicy meal and that’s not what we got. The burger didn’t have a tomato and the usual spicy hot sauce was not there instead it was some weird garlicy sauce. We wiped the sauce off the burger as we didn’t like it. Very disappointing as we did order and pay the price for the grand chicken spicy

If i could give no stars i would, who ever orders stock should not be working there as there are no chicken burgers i don't eat beef, i wasted time and petrol to get this, please if you need a proper person to work there, you may hire me and i will make sure there ia everything there unless the main mac Donalds doesn't have, which then you need to fire that person and put some else in charge, someone who can see that they running out of stock and order more before hand, i don't like mac Donalds anymore

Service is always spot-on. Problem with fast food take aways restuarants these days are that they are becoming too corporate, they are starting to loose the excitement that I can remember as a kid walking into a McDonald's. Bring back childhood areas, make it exciting for kids again apart from the food.

We went to McDonald's last night after a long evening of car troubles. The queue for the drive thru was all the way to the robots so while my hubby waited in the queue I walked inside and was pleasantly surprised that you now can place your own order on touch screens. It was very easy and simple to do. The wait was not long at all and the staff very helpful for those that weren't sure of what to do with the new system. Welldone McDonald's for the new system!!

We rushed into this place with a cranky, hungry toddler. The restaurant is immaculate ly clean, smells good, great staff and upto date ordering devices. However the service was a bit slow, not resembling much of a fast food place but I appreciate their patience with us and my daughter. Was also disappointed at the play area being closed and no other play alternative for kids. All in all we were comfortable and would definitely stop by again.

I have been a few times at the time that this branch says that they open however I have been numerous times and sat there for 20 minutes and they haven’t opened and I have had to leave because I had to be elsewhere. They then pushed back their opening time by half an hour and I have just had the same experience again. Very disappointed. Should not put false advertising online. If you open at 7:30 don’t say 7

Had to kill an hour to beat the traffic and thought 'what the heck' might as well have a coffee at Ronald McDonald's Hillcrest.Turns out the best decision of the day: Despite it being a 24/7 operation, it was spotlessly clean and a staff member was so very helpful to show me how the self-service portal worked. To cap it all, the coffee was .. well just perfect ... much how I like my women!! ... but I ain't saying how ..

Had good and bad food quality from here. Mainly on stale chips. However I was very impressed at the guy taking orders on the tablet, I usually order from the app onto of my normal menu order and he set a new expectation for me he took my normal menu order and my app order so I didn't have to do it at the payment window. Awesome stuff I now expect it from all the MCDs but unfortunately it doesn't happen

Online it says that this branch opens at 6am. We arrived to get an early breakfast before a commitment, and it didn’t open up until 7. When looking at the time a place opens, you expect that would be the time it would start serving (I could be wrong), so it was disappointing to see staff still arriving and only opening up way past 6 :( would have had a good experience either.

Don't waist your time. Orders are NEVER correct.. never once have they given me exactly what I've asked for. In fact, I ordered for my family today, over R400 of McDonald's, just to have the order wrong. I have said it before, but this time is real.. I WILL NEVER SUPPORT MCDONALD'S AGAIN! EVER! Very nice, one of the most popular places in Hillcrest. Always busy always full, always packed! Love it to bits awesome staff awesome manager. Just needs abit more room it's grown to small for the amount of people that use it. But without a doubt theeee most popular take away in Hillcrest. Clean entrance, outside & inside. Special needs parking space and accessibility to building. Friendly staff. Quick drive through. Toilets don't always work, doors need locks that work. Great selection on menu. Play area. Seating area to eat. Coffee shop within the McD restaurant. At times they have problems with their ice cream machines not making ice cream.

The drive through in particular at this branch is not the best. Often times you are asked to park your car and wait in a parking for your order to be completed. Also it has happened to me that I was not allowed to go inside to order about 1hr before they close, saying that they are closed, but in actual fact they are supposed to still be open.

I always order at this branch and their food is always so fresh. Customer service is always on point. As a fast food rule - always check your order before you leave. I ordered a chai latte, sipped it and it turned out to be coffee. I was still in the drive thru so I could return it.

While the venue is ideally situated for either drive through or sit down, the meal was nothing interesting. A spicy chicken burger is tasteless with the spice being too hot. I figure spicy means a good flavour with a bit of burn and not a mouth numbing experience. So may he something to review... the amount of chili in the spice.

Not the best experience. Have to deal with a illogical machine as cannot order at the counter according to the cashier. These machine's are very badly designed and are not user-friendly. The milkshake machine was broken and the griller was screeching like an intensive care siren. The food was ok but the experience was not ideal.

Absolute Shambels I'm sure they are running a scam! Often when I have placed an order the usually miss a item or 2. Every time upon checking the order there is a burger missing or something, and you are told to park and wait. Often upon driving home there is always a item missing! Just be aware of this upon ordering

What terrible service. I was the only person in the store and not one single person helped me - all just stared blankly at me for a good 10 minutes (timed too). The ‘Hospitality’ person (Dan) is not very hospitable and is more concerned with what jacket he is wearing. The new revamp of the store looks good though.

What you would expect from a McDonald's - fast food, fast service. Have always found the staff efficient. The drive-thru is really convenient but inside, the restaurant is clean, with a play area for small children. Located in a safe area with moderate traffic. Easily accessible from the main road.

Generally speaking food is consistent. Drive through intercom communication can be frustrating at times with poor audio to both sides. 7 out 10 times all items ordered will be ready upon arriving at pick up window and 9 out of 10 times all items ordered will be in the bags.

Hi, i used the drive-through to get lunch and the staff at the new Watercrest branch were amazing! Friendly, fast and efficient with a lovely sense of humour. I drove away laughing, having enjoyed the experience. Oh and my burger was good too

This is possibly the slowest McDonald's drive-thru. Service really needs improvement! They seem to get slower each time you go there, and as it's the only Mcds in the area, they don't care. I wonder if the owner knows how poor their service is today was 45min …

After a 25 min wait for our food in the drive through we eventually got chilli cheese fries (minus the chilli aparently) got a ginger beer instead of diet coke, cold apple pies and had each item handed to us one at a time over the 25 min.... Thanks McDonald's.....

Breakfast menu not up. Total on order not put through. When I informed them menu not up, the response was, I will tell them just now. Had to sit and wait for one sausage macmiffin. Most likely explains why breakfast menu not up

Disappointed in quality, chips were hot but undercooked and my chicken was missing half the bun. Phoned store managers number from till slip- turns out he hasnt worked ther for 2 years. Phoned landline multiple times only to have call cut every time.

Nice,friendly and clean McDonald's . Has a great coffee bar and sweet treats. Does not have a tomato sauce machine with little cups,has a tray of sachets though. Not quite as satisfying as dunking your chips in a ketchup cup but sufficient.

3rd time buying milkshake from this outlet, without fail milkshake is foamy and taste like skimmed milk. No sign of ice cream in it. It's obviously they cannot get it right. Very sad to say.

Quick and hassle free with no drama even though the drive through was quite busy which is something that so many other McDonald's franchisees are not managing to accomplish these days. Store was clean and Covid19 protocols were observed.

When one thinks of a Drive Thru, you would imagine it moves..... Slowest Drive Thru imaginable. 20 minutes to get thru. Nothing convenient here. Suggest you give this McDonald's a wide miss unless you want to waste time / petrol etc

Dan was so helpful with the self service. Also noticed I was freezing and offered to turn the aircon temperature slightly up. Always welcoming and generally a bubbly personality. Absolutely appreciate the consistent great service.

The site advertisers the drive through is open 24 hours on Friday and Saturday but both nights it was closed at 1am. Staff are inside but everything is locked up .

The only reason it's only 3 stars is not because the food or service BUT because of the beggars... They are off putting Saturday 10th Oct evening we were going through the drive-through and we were approached. I felt unsafe.

The place is great and convenient. Self service facilities in place. The only negative thing is the way they reconfigured the seating arrangements, you almost feel like you are at a bus stop...otherwise everything is great.

The Drive thru is more a kind to a wait thru. Im Pretty sure it took less time to construct the building than it did to make a cheese burger. Either stay open with a full complement of staff or just close for night.

The orange juice tasted diluted and there was no ice. I'm big fan of orange and I've had it from McDonald's before, but this time I honestly don't know if it was the rush but it's no excuse to compromise quality!!

Manageress on duty extremely rude and unhelpful. Never met an establishment that charge you for extra tomato sauce sachets or wont allow you the option of soda water instead of coke. Service also quite slow

Usually a regular stop on a Sunday after shopping. The drive thru can get busy understandably with Covid restrictions in place but still moves along at a brisk place. Milkshakes as always are delicious.
