mulberry coffee is by far the best coffee shop in this city. located in core downtown, it is a centrepiece for this mosaic of a city we call hamilton. when you enter you are greeted by the warm and welcoming scent of fresh espresso, and baked goods. following this earth shattering aroma you look around and see local art, warm colours, and light shining through the decadent windows. the atmosphere immediately fills you with joy. next up, you may wait in line… or you may not!!! the service is not only incredible but also efficient here at mulberry coffeehouse. on top of that, somehow they manage to hire the coolest people in hamilton to work here, everyone is cool and everyone is literally so nice it warms my soul. there is an extensive menu filled with coffee, matcha, teas, baked goods, vegan and gluten free food, basically everything you could ever want. the prices are reasonable and honestly it should be more expensive for the experience you receive at mulberry. it takes practically 2 minutes to receive your drinks and baked goods, and you are welcome to sit and wait at the numerous seating arrangements mulberry offers while you wait for any other food orders. my personal favourite is the window seat facing towards james street, great option if you enjoy people watching. you will never be let down by anything you buy at mulberry, seriously. every single menu item is good. great even. and when you finish your time at mulberry, you find yourself filled with happiness and ready to take on whatever your day holds, and if you have the time i greatly recommend that you walk around james street and take in the art and many other great stores surrounding mulberry. additionally, i recently went to mulberry midnights - loved it. vibes were amazing. keep it up mulberry - you’re absolutely awesome. personal menu favourites: vegan caesar, iced matcha latte - with almond milk, banana bread with espresso icing, avocado toast, lemon loaf, iced peach green tea - half sweet, and their cold brew is buss. i move away from hamilton in 10 days, and i must say one of the things i will miss most is this cafe. thx for being my spot mulberry.

Consistently the worst "specialty" coffee shop in downtown Hamilton. The service is horrible and the coffee is pretty mediocre. I went back today because I was nearby and wanted to sit and have a coffee while I checked emails. I ordered an espresso macchiato. I watched her make a double espresso, then pour hot water in it, and add at least 1:1 steamed milk. I normally don't say anything, but I've been having consistently bad experiences here in the past year so I said I just wanted an espresso macchiato: a double espresso with a drop of steamed milk and a thin layer of foam. She told me what she made was a macchiato, and I had to show her a photo of what I wanted for her to understand. She made the espresso shot again and then poured way too much milk into it (no hot water this time). She set it on the counter without looking at me or saying anything and immediately walked away. Why is it on the menu if your staff isn't trained on how to make it? I don't think ordering a menu item that is common in all other specialty coffee shops around downtown is an unreasonable request. Why is the service so awful every time I've gone in the past year? Front of house doesn't greet you, or will ignore you to have a conversation with another staff member, and then look annoyed that you're there to spend money in the shop. I've been going here for 5-6 years and it never used to be like this. The service and coffee used to be great. I stopped going a few months back and thought maybe I would give it another try because I was literally 10 ft from the entrance, but I seriously regret that. I wanted to ask for my money back, but I would rather leave and let them keep the money than have to talk to the front of house again.

We've been here a few times and would love to try the majority of all of the unique and healthy combinations of quality food. I'm not usually for bagels but theirs are homemade and amazing!! **in picture: mulburger, avocado specially bagel (other2 are better) and the hammer salad** -We're not much for ALCOHOL but they do serve it as well as craft beer. -We do however love COFFEE and the Mulberry's cappuccinos are fantastic. -ATMOSPHERE is great, a lot of seating and awesome MUSIC. They play well known songs (kind you hear in movies), like the Beatles! They're always busy (been a few times but pass by a lot), with people of all ages but usually younger crowds with a louder, higher energy vibe. Pic #1 : avocado salad (last fav of specialty but still good) Mulburger - It was good...bf LOVES Pic #2: beet bagel (amazing... and I don't even like beets) Westender breakfast - one of my favourites on the menu yet. Northerner is really good too but I'd choose like one. Great flavor combination. #3: red pepper bagel, cauliflower salad+goat cheese &mulburger

I wanted to share this review on here so hopefully a manager could read this because I really didn’t want to embarrass any of the baristas or be that person to force them to make me a new drink. I too work at a cafe so I know it can be tough with training and all, but I wanted to express my thoughts on certain espresso based beverages I’ve tried at Mulberry. I actually love this cafe, the ambience and customer service is AMAZING. I love the baked goods and the food. However, I feel there needs to be some reminders for the baristas of what a flat white is and what the difference is between espresso beverages. I have ordered a flat white around 4 different times here and each time the amount of foam surpasses even an overly foamy cappuccino. It’s not even microfoam either, it has had huge bubbles every single time. I love the baristas and the staff here at Mulberry but I wish I could enjoy my hot espresso drinks here as well. Take care! :)

I never write reviews but after my experience at Mulberry Codfeehouse, I had too. I stumbled across this cafe while I was looking for a place to eat before watching the Remembrance Day parade. First off, while there, a person who clearly was struggling with mental health was being very loud and disruptive, and then proceeded to take money out of their tip jar. I have never seen such grace and humanity shown to the person from the staff at Mulberry. The employee maintained everyone’s dignity and graciously escorted the person out while a second employee checked in on the customers to ensure they were okay too. They didn’t ask for the money back they just kindly explained why they were being asked to leave. To top things off the open face avocado toast that I ordered was amazing!! What an amazing way to start my morning followed by a day to remember those lost in war. A lot of other businesses and people could take a page out of the customer service of the staff here. Will definitely be back.

Great, great and great, the staff are amazing ❤️‍ and David Langstaff, who whined that he was “humiliated” and would “never return” - that’s cool, you clearly are a very sensitive and fragile soul who lacks awareness that their own loud yakking was overwhelming the busy staff (even over and above the noise of other customers, the espresso machine and music). The staff aren’t just there to kowtow to your privileged behaviour, they are not your “help” - mulberry isn’t (thankfully) another chain curated for your coddled sensitivities. As a long-time regular (and usually the loudest person in the room!) I support your decision to never return no one will will be heartbroken As my gran would have told you “shut your cake hole” - me mum would have told you to “get a wiggle on and go to your room” ‍⬛‍⬛‍⬛

Beautiful place with amazing staff, they know how to make drinks and food, last winter i would come frequently and get Chai Latte, it tasted, smelt amazing, was the perfect temperature when served, i have been coming in recently and getting Iced Matcha Latte, it tastes amazing, no other place has been able to replicate the drinks i’ve tried here. The atmosphere is amazing, I’ve seen students and people working on projects here, its very calming and a great place to study, and it smells amazing throughout the building, the traditional and contemporary architecture and art mixture really adds to the scene to. would definitely recommend to anyone in Hamilton or people visiting.

The ambient sound was that of a really fine bistro, where the food is so good there's less chatter. Soft unobtrusive music didn't force one to talk louder than necessary. Good and lovely natural vibe with warm hearted customer service. Really like the 3+ lay out in differing parts of this coffeehouse. Entrance has a few seatsalong with the order counter etc. There's a wing section with booths separated by wood partitions. There's a back part for standing patrons. Only had take out this time. Prices are higher than typical. But that's sometimes the cost of admission to quality venues. I will definitely pay to enjoy their welcoming hospitality again and check out one of their food menu items, next!

Cozy cafe with a great vibe! Awesome place to get some work done on your laptop, grab a bite to eat, catch up with a friend. Good size menu with a great selection of drinks, sandwiches and more. Lovely case of desserts and treats to choose from as well. Super friendly staff. Lots of seating available and a parking lot within a 2 minute walk as well as street parking.

I live nearby and I am a student in constant need of a place to study so I often end up at Mulberry Cafe due to larger size of it. However, after years of going to this establishment and making sure to tip the baristas every time I still have never once received friendly service. Everyone who works there seems miserable and bothered when anyone walks in and orders. Coffee is mediocre at best and food is wildly overpriced. They also have very few tables meant for one or two people and I am constantly being kicked out of booths if I am alone or with one other person which is outrageous since there often isn't anywhere else to sit other than along the bar. Would not recommend.

  • Kate Storey

Always loved this place. We would go at least 3 times a week. In the last while, things have gone downhill. I don’t mean this about every employee but many are more interested in their own conversations than in talking to me. Most recently, I ordered a cappuccino that was actually a latte - virtually all milk. I considered taking it back but the line was almost out the door (issue relates back to conversations not frothing. Sadly, as much as a I love the building, in this day and age, I am not prepared to lay down money on something that is not exactly what I want and where peers are treated better than customers.

Très Magnifique Always a favourite.

hip, coffee is pretty good but would like to see them go back to the old (my dog Joe's) days of cheap refills. could also use more vegan options... edit as of June 2019. Great new vegan options, and of course this is the best patio downtown! My latest update... October 2019. sitting on this sunny patio sheltered from the wind. Bliss. A suggestion, if you could offer a medium roast that is lighter it would give customers a really good choice between dark and medium roast. The current medium roast that you offer thas a bit of a burnt flavour.

This has been my go to spot since 2017! I love meeting up with colleagues, friends, and family here. Also it’s my favourite place to get some focus time if I need to work on a task for 2 hours or so or read a book. A lot of my masters thesis was written here before the pandemic I love the staff - they’re super friendly and become familiar with your order when you come in often enough haha!

Got the chick pea toast, really nice flavour and very fresh experience ! The mix of tomatoes, sprouts and chick peas was a light start to the day! Our roasted vegetable panini had beets in it and was a good flavour but we asked to have goat cheese in it and I think the flavours were a little mismatched but that’s on us - try leaving it as is without modifications and I’m sure it would be great! Went December 7th , certainly a good time! Staff managed risks well by asking people to keep their masks on while ordering.

  • Market Rant

Refused to serve a single beer because it was too close to closing (over 30 minutes upon arrival at 5:25pm). If the two employees behind the counter had ended their conversation with their friends to do their job, there would have been plenty of time. She who appeared to be the manager was of no help when stepping in to take the order, disregarding the ignorance of the other staff. Go somewhere else for overpriced drinks, whether coffee, tea, or beer. The $8 lattes are bested by Tim Horton's for much less. 0/5

  • Andrew Dreosto

Coffee shop with actually delicious food. Cappuccino is what I typically order, and it is always high quality including with alternative milks, there tea selection is respectable. Westender bagel sandwich is great, vegan chili is excellent, roasted veg panini was respectable. Did not try the meat dishes yet, but vegetarian dishes are on point. Baked goods also were a hit, brought several brownies home which are fantastic. Service is friendly and food was made quite quick for how busy it was. Highly recommend!

  • Gillian Robertson

Always a great atmosphere but I have to rate according to my recent experience, which involved me really struggling to get my elderly disabled Mother's wheelchair in the front entrance because it is not fully accessible Which was frustrating however a barista quickly noticed us and kindly helped by holding the door open, it was not very convient for either of us but still amazing menu and awesome employees! I do hope one day they will have wheelchair accessibility as we really enjoy visiting .

Great spot to grab a drink and just park yourself for a while. The service is fast, and the staff is incredibly friendly. The coffee is just the right amount of chocolatey with just a hint of sweetness. I miss their music nights, this was one of the first places I became a patron of when I first came to Hamilton. A hello dolly with a cup of coffee is just perfect. The Salsa can be a bit spicy but it's simply the best.

Easy Saturday breakfast and enjoyed a coffee and a super fresh croissant breakfast sandwich (eggs, cheese, pickled onions, arugula, avocado). There is so many options, breakfast, lunch and beyond. The baked goods looked so good but thankfully I had will power on this day or I woulda gotten the muffins and cookies.

Friendly service, great coffee and funky vibe in this coffeehouse on James N. Side patio is great for people watching, while you enjoy a cuppa. All the usual hot drinks, coffees, teas, espressos. Cold beverages also available, including alcoholic options. Housemade baked goods, including bagels and other menu items. There are also some fresh made take out items available at the counter. A great fixture in the ever growing James Street neighbourhood.

  • Patty Cabanas

A good place to hang out with great coffee, located at the heart of downtown Hamilton. The place is quaint and offer plenty of seating. If the weather is nice and you like to people watch, you may enjoy their patio, as long as you don't mind sitting very close to the street where vehicles come and go. Their breakfast is light and delicious, with quality far better than what you get at Starbucks.

Lately I've been popping in here almost every time I'm in the area. Snacks and coffee are always excellent - especially the savoury muffins. Got some grilled sandwiches for the family on most recent visit, and that was a HUGE hit. Always great staff too. I can see why it gets really busy sometimes.

great americano, great dessert square, great savoury muffin. Love the eclectic vintage decor, the servers, the art gallery. The patio was warm and refreshing in the late afternoon, when I went for the second time that day. They could use a second ladies washroom. They could set up a cream/sugar station NEAR the coffee brewing area. The line ups can be a bit slow. Love the ANTI- Starbucks vibe. Warm , individual, one-of-a-kind, artsy, homey.

  • Banky Cafferdy

They have a lot of vegan/gluten free options for food and they have a good menu for a quick snack throughout your work sesh. The space is pretty chill for getting some work done and you'll often see families with their kids on the weekend. They also decorate the space with local artists' work so you can even buy some art while you sip on your latte! The only downside is that it can be challenging to get an outlet so come fully charged!

  • Maya Phangsoa

This little cafe is THE spot. It has a rustic yet homey environment which is great for getting work done. Their iced matcha latte with oat milk is the best I’ve had in Hamilton hands down (and I’ve tried a lot). As for food I love their breakfast croissant with eggs, spinach, sausage and balsamic onions. Competing with that is the herbivore sandwich which has an amazing pesto sauce!! Love this place so much as all the locals do!!

  • Liv F-P

I love mulberry because of the environment. My friends and I went at least once a week this summer, it's a great place to hang out over some drinks. (pretty over priced drinks I night add) I love the design of the place but the food and drink itself is simply decent. I haven't ever enjoyed anything there that's super impressive, especially for the price. But sometimes it's worth it to treat myself. I like the iced matcha latte.

  • Suji Yoon

That ginger cookie & flat white were so worth it. I went with a good friend & we had a fabulous Sunday catching up. I would go again & it truly helps that this beautiful café is only 40 units away from my home. Unlike Ola (which I still love), they accept almost every method of payment. The worst thing was the booth. It was very narrow. Wish the space between the seats & tables were adjustable but they seem to be bolted down.

  • Sara P

This is by far one of my favourite coffee shops. From food, to an awesome cappuccino, to a a quick pint or can of beer to grab and go - they have a little bit of everything all of the time. Plus, the staff is beyond compare! They are always so friend and kind. I wish I could remember the lovely that served me yesterday. The sandwich they picked for me (I told them dealer's choice) was great!

Coffee is alright. They have a sizeable tea selection! This place is always teeming with people, never not full. Vegan and gluten free options are available alongside meat options, milk alternatives also available. The savoury muffins here are a must try. In terms of seating options, there are standard chairs, booths, couches, AND patio. Plus Mulberry features local visual and musical artists from time to time!

  • James Baldwin

Okay. I like this place. Lovely people and good service. I don't want to post a bad rating based on one dish, but THE NACHOS. 8 of the chips had an appropriate amount of cheese, most of them had none, and the black beans were as crunchy as the chips. The Guac was so bland it was almost inedible. If I'd paid 6 bucks for these, I'd understand, but for 13 and a plate this small, I expect substance on there.

  • Steve Martini

This is the results you get when you try to reinvent the wheel. The espresso is meant to go from portafilter to the cup and not in a little stainless cup first. The espresso was weak and had zero substance. So I just wasted $8 on this nonsense which could be compared to a soup as you can see from my picture, no crema, and this was supposed to be short. Try serving this in Italy and see what happens.

  • Sheila R

I love this coffee shop!! My favourites to order are any of the flavoured lattes, they taste so yummy! I also love all the hot chocolate and all are so good!! The baked goods also taste very yummy!! I have an allergy to nuts and was still able to enjoy a delicious treat! I love the atmosphere inside as well and how if feels so comfortable and cozy in here. I will definitely be returning!!

It's a nice place to hang out, being spacious and pleasant. The treats and snacks are usually really good and inexpensive, but the coffee is very expensive considering it comes in very small portions for the price and tastes rather generic. I wouldn't even mind paying $2.30 for a coffee if it was a decent size or very good flavour. But it's neither, unfortunately.

After many years I visited Mulberry couple weeks ago again, and I must say best coffee shop in Hamilton hands down. Their Hello Dolly and their coffee got me craving it on daily basis. It's a great study spot and a place to chill. They also serve alcohol and their food is great. Third visit in two weeks and many more to come for sure.

Why don't they pick up their phone. Frustrating. I need to call to confirm that my pick up order is ready but nobody picks up phone. I have called 7 times today. Updated to 4 stars because when I went to location, the staff were apologetic and made sure the order was ready the next day for me. And the savoury muffins are very good!

  • Horacio Hoyos Rodriguez

The rustic atmosphere is very cosy. Food is delicious and staff are friendly and caring. I could here other customers complementing the food. Regulars get a personalised service from staff, which makes it feel inviting. Couple of two seater tables if you want to work for a bit.

I ordered a drink and a breakfast sandwich and they were just not good. Pretty sure my drink was forgotten, and all 3 people behind the counter kept making eye contact with me, yet no one asked me if I was still waiting something. The breakfast sandwich was terrible. It was on a bagel and the bagel had a very stale texture to it.

  • Maninder Rehal

I really liked it. Very cozy seating inside with unmatched drinks. I would recommend their macchiato and of course their mulberry blend. If you are planning to sit down and spend time, they also have outdoor seating. They also have light sandwiches and snacks. Definitely try out if you are in the downtown Hamilton area.

Great place to go to get away. I love the atmosphere here, a lot. However, I got the iced Pumpkin Spice latte, the iced Nutella latte, double chocolate oatmeal cookie, and peanut butter cookie. $17. All tasteless. Not good at all. Waste of money. Waste of time. We definitely won't go back. The atmosphere isn't worth it.

Great and personal staff in an excellent, relaxed location. It's a great place for an interesting conversation over good beer, coffee, or other hot drink. The menu is pricey though and limited, but the quality is top notch and sustainable/responsible. I return everytime I'm in the area, after I get paid.

Favourite cafe, hands down. Great vegan selection of foods and the baristas are always friendly. It's so cozy, and heart warming that they promote other local events. This is my go- to place for co working due to the ample seating available, quiet background music, and outlet accessibility.

This coffee shop is extra special to me. It's where I met my wife. The coffee shop itself is wonderful..from the friendly staff to the delicious coffee and baked goods. Overall it's a nice place to chill out by yourself or with friends. There is also an outdoor patio which is a nice touch.

  • Heather Mackenzie

Good food but I prefer gluten in my bread. Great service and nice atmosphere. Can be a bit crowded but still good for a date, met up with friends or night out when they have some local bands. I recognized one of the employees playing one night and the piano player was incredibly talented.

  • Jacqueline Jolley

I have been coming here on and off for years. Every time I am met by pleasant staff and my order is always made correctly. If you are craving something sweet with your coffee I highly recommend their brownie or chocolate chip cookie. This is one of my favorite spots to hit up downtown.

One of my favourite local places to go when I just want to get outside in nature for some fresh air. The trails are lush with trees and plant life, with a variety of birds and small animals. It was a hot day,but the float down the river was an amazing one!! Met some great people too

Good coffee. Great food. Amazing service. Only thing is they used to have a couch there which was great for when my 18m was there but they removed those seats to accommodate spots for people to come work on their laptops and what not so i wont be returning here unfortunately.

I don't think I have ever been so shocked of my bill at a coffee shop. While it was okay, 10 dollars for their oolong kombucha was not worth the price. Can't speak for the rest of their offerings but will say that their baked goods showed potential.

Despite the good product offered, I will never return to this place again - was insulted and publicly humiliated by the barista. When I returned to give them another chance I found both staff members laughing and was told to take a joke!, well, not at my expense.

  • Lindsay Labonte

Wonderful place to have a coffee and catch up with an old friend. The staff is friendly, coffee is hot, and the treats are tasty!

Loved this place. It was my first time and won't be my last. It was simple, comfortable and the coffee was great! Was very busy when I arrived on a Sunday at 4PM but got a table within 5 minutes of waiting. Nice crowd and good selections of eats and sweets.

This place is very cute, and I would highly recommend it for the vibes and food. However, I would say their coffee is just OK. I ordered a cappuccino and it was more like a latte. I would still recommend, but there are better coffee shops in the area.

  • Elisa Coates

This is my absolute favourite place, coming for working alone, hanging out with a friend, or even bringing my parents. Great comfortable vibes with so many cozy spaces but still feels airy and open. I love all the preserved old Hamilton architecture.

  • Alex Bramley

Great space to be able to meet up with friends. More seating than I had expected not realizing how far back the space actually went. Great service, very friendly, very prompt. Loved that they had oat milk! Made me very happy! Will be back again!

  • Hayley Bell

Love this place! Great coffee and food, and the staff are fantastic! I got a beer here today and the keg ran out just before my glass was full, and the staff offered me a second full drink free! They really go above and beyond. Great patio too!

I can’t believe how expensive an Americano is I had a extra shot in the med and it was almost 7$!!! Most med Americanos should already have 3 shots… coming from Vancouver where it’s cheaper

Great place to do some work if you have a mobile office. Staff aren't uppity. Beautiful building. I've love to see the studios upstairs. So apparently they renovated an old hotel lobby into this cafe. Worth checking out; you'll the atmosphere.

  • R. Scott

Friendly service, great tunes and coffee. The atmosphere was my biggest take away, spot on. Wifi is spotty and gets fairly crowded if you head in at the wrong hour. That being said, you should contribute to this crowd I was and check it out.

  • Helen Phan

I love the atmosphere and during covid, the patio was open for business. The patio is so lovely and decorated in a way that I wish I could hang out there forever. I bought a chai latte that was absolutely delicious. Can't wait to go back!

Super cute and homey café, and the baristas were incredibly friendly! The autumn fog and the savoury muffins are a must-have. Definitely coming back again!

Go here anytime of day for a great experience. The atmosphere is lovely, the staff are awesome, vegan treats, donuts, delicious coffee and do yourself a favor and try the Ginny Weasley - gin, peach, syrup and soda. It's phenomenal.

  • Mel Brooks

Came to this coffeehouse to check out the sticker vending machine from local artists! This is such a cool and creative idea and I love being able to support creative Hamiltonians. The cafe is really cute and the snacks were tasty!

  • Anshul Garg

Visited Mulberry Coffeehouse today. We ordered The Herbivore and The big cheese. Both the sandwiches were delicious. The bread was very fresh and nicely grilled. Amazing place to have breakfast. A must try when in Hamilton.

  • Bruce MacNeil

Place has a good 'funkiness.' Service is ultra slow - it seems as if the coffee makers lack confidence and the basic comprehension of hustle. There IS alcohol - so it is a good spot for wine. It could be SO SO much better.

  • K Sills

Cafe with lots of character. Public parking short walk behind the restaurant. Great sandwich, had the Grilled Cheese. Great Cortado. Very busy at lunch hour. Person on cash was very patient/pleasant with newbie customers.

  • Jeff Boulton

This was one of the first cool places that I discovered when I moved to Hamilton. I love the vibe at the Mulberry. It became my go-to spot on James Street North. If you like sweets, you need to try the 'Hello Sailor' bar.

  • The Harvest Hunters

Love the vibe of this coffee shop and really enjoy our drinks! We got a flat white and a matcha latte. I absolutely loved the matcha. The cookie was also good but a bit hard - next time will definitely ask to heat it up!

  • Sergio Muzlera

Very nice place to sit and enjoy a hot chocolate like I did today. Servers were very nice.

Just down the street on Mulberry there is a house that has the Front Porch Band playing music. They were playing Friday evening and as we sat on the patio at the Mulberry Cafe we listened to some great entertainment.

The cutest coffee shop with a variety of atmospheres to work, lounge, sit outside.. they have it all! Both beer and coffee which is nice. Lots of sweets and the nicest staff. Always love coming here! A Hamilton gem!

  • Gianni

Great coffee and a nice atmosphere. Has vegan options for treats which is always a plus. Plenty of space and they also host live music acts. If you're on James St. and need a coffee fix you won't be disappointed!

Such a beautiful ambience. Serene. Their lemon cranberry bars are bomb dot com and tried their sausage croissant breakfast, I can tell this is not ordinary sausage. This place always has my heart. ❤

Great welcoming staff. The place kept its vintage touch. Tons of space indoor and two patios. Municipal parking just behind the building. Very happy to be back again.

Great Cafe! I had no clue what to order so the guy working was extremely helpful explaining the coffee types and options for me. We will definitely go there again, a super cool spot!
