Perhaps I came on a off day (Thursday), but the food and services were below decent. I expected a bit more flavor from a establishment showcasing Northern Chinese delicacy, but I was greeted with a very basic Chinese cuisine. The sweet and sour ribs dish had the ideal flavor but lacked a kick to it, and the poultry was not cured so I can still taste the griminess. The hot and sour fillet lack sourness and its spices can be summarized as msg, salt, and pepper. Then, the dish I was looking forward to, beef pancakes, came out short on flavor as well and seems like something I can create if I had gotten some pancakes from the market and stuff it with beef. There were two servers, but we were never checked on and they just continued playing on their phones the whole time. The setting was low light modern vibes with a traditional dining set up and ceramicware, wish there were music to set the mood. The only upside was the price, as it was quite affordable coming in at $42 in total for two people to come out feeling stuffed. Very hard to recommend Northern Taste as of this experience, perhaps I will need to come on a busy day to reevaluate.

I live on the northside and will gladly put up with 90E during rush hour traffic to eat here...Sooooo I think it’s safe to say I’m a big fan of northern taste. It’a my first go to when someone ask me what’s your favorite Chinese restaurant. The food is always on point and the portion size is amazing, you won’t leave hungry that’s for sure! To be honest writing this review made me crave it more now...I think I’m going make another trip. I highly recommend 3 items that (of which I order all the time) -The clear noodle salad: it’s super tasty and refreshing. If you like peanut flavors you’re in for a treat! -The lamb kabob & scallion pancake are bomb by themselves but combine them and you’re in foodie Heaven. -Popcorn chicken...just...simply delicious. You’ll understand when you eat it.

Great value; cheap price and great food! I recommend the spicy numbing stir fry (lotus root, mushroom, potato, bokchoy, chicken, shrimp is what we got). The sauteed green beans are some of the best ever! And the beef & kimchi fried rice is excellent. I'm shocked the prices are essentially the same as they were. Would recommend it to anyone! Just make sure to order some more traditional dishes otherwise, I'm not sure how the American Chinese dishes are.

I've ordered delivery from this restaurant for more than 30 times. Tried almost everything on their menu and they NEVER failed to satisfy. Highlights include stewed meatball, stewed ribs, garlic fried pork, etc... So many to name. Tried their three cup chicken today and it is soooo good. I can't believe how a northern Chinese cuisine can cook a Taiwanese entree to such perfection. The owner and the host are always super friendly and accommodating when I called to make customization on my order. This is hands down the best Chinese food in Chicago!

It was my 1st time trying out this restaurant with my family. We ordered the Dry Hotpot, Pork Dumplings and Lamb Skewers. The dry hotpot was super tasty, it was spicy and numbing at the same time. Our spice tolerance is usually quite high, but tonight my husband was all sweaty and kept drinking his tea while eating the hotpot. If I can make a suggestion, please go easy on the “ma la”. The lamb skewers were quite good as well. The meats were big and well seasoned. My family and I will recommend this restaurant. We’ll be back to try other dishes on the menu. I like their lunch special and mutton shaomai most, which are really delicious, and other dishes are also very good, very cheap, and I am very full every time

The Mongolian Beef was tender and it was a good portion of food. Definitely enough for 2 people. I didn't like the egg rolls because they were not what I expected. They were more of a vegetable spring roll wrapped with thin rice paper and deep fried. Still overall very good and the staff was nice. The tea was too diluted and was like warm water (look, smell and taste) I asked a few times and was told it was tea. I would give it 3.5 stars if I could.

I love the da pan ji (big plate chicken)! So flavorful❤️. Other dishes like the lamb dumplings and lamb stew and beef shank noodles were also really delicious. I didn't like the mapo toufu because it tasted a little bit different than the traditional way but my mother in law liked it. The waitress was very friendly and helpful. We would come back when next time in town.

Atmosphere could be improved, but still amazing mongolian beef and other foods in bountiful portions. A little on the pricy side, but the helpful staff and fast service, plus delicious food more than compensate for it.

Location well situated with ample free parking in residential area a block away; no need to fight the crowds in Chinatown. Best deals are the hard-to-find post-COVID $7.49 weekday lunches of authentic tastes, not the Chinese-American versions nor pricier versions as listed in other restaurants.

Super legit food! I had many Chinese food in Chi town and the food here is definitely one of the best. Prices are fair and tastes are great. I strongly recommend the chicken with noodle here; sauce is awesome and you can share with your friend. Also try the garlic soy sauce, it is out of this world! Love this place and will definitely come again!

This place may have some integrity issues. I requested and was charged for 2 lamb dinners to go. When I got home, I discovered that I was given 2 beef dinners instead. This was disappointing because I had a taste for lamb, which is something I rarely get, and it was supposed to be a birthday dinner. The beef tasted ok. More

Order chicken and mushrooms with bone. They should have listed it as chicken bones with mushrooms. The chicken bones were old and the tea was like drinking hot water. Left it sitting on the table after 5 minutes of trying to make the best out of it. (Wasn't posdible) More

I was a little concerned that I didn’t get any fried noodles with duck sauce while we waited but the food came so fast that it wasn’t needed. I ordered the orange chicken and my son ordered the lamb dumplings. We shared a shrimp fried rice.

I lived in China for several years and I have to say, if you like northern Chinese food this is your place! This is the most authentic and best tasting Chinese food I have found in Chicago (and better than any place I found while living in

I crave their SPICY NUMBING STIR-FRY like nothing else in Chicago (favorite szechuan peppercorn dish in the city). Eat in to get the best taste... choose your ingredients, it's an incredible deal. Clear noodles, fried tofu (the good kind),

Food is great and super filling. The lamb hot pot and salted shrimp was amazing. Then i left my credit card in there accidentally so when i came back they offered my a cola for my trouble. It was my fault but they were nice enough to still

It's a little ways out of what I consider Chinatown but a diamond in the rough for sure. If you like Americanized Chinese food they have that or if you know and love authentic Chinese food they definitely have that. The portion sizes are

This place made me fall in love with Chinese cuisine, which I was very sceptical about before. The portions are VERY rich and the price is reasonable. The staff is very polite and attentive. Feels very authentic and tasty in there.

The food was delicious but the rice was not as hot as I thought it would be, but still good, just too cold for my taste. The people were very friendly and attentive. The atmosphere was serene and enjoyable. More

Vegetarian fried rice for approx $7 is enough to feed 2 and very tasty but a bit greasy. The take away service was quite fast (10 min wait or less since ordering on site). Good for travellers passing by

Live around the area and couldn’t remember how many times I’ve been there for lunch or dinner. Never had an issue. Just want to leave a good review after moving out of Chicago.

Great place! Very open seating, and a fair amount of traditional Chinese dishes. Parking is a little tight with a wide alleyway, but the food is amazing. Also free Wi-Fi.

Very good, affordable northern Chinese fare. My favs are the mapo tofu and the Japanese style tofu, salt and pepper. They deliver fast, and it’s consistent! I love it!
