Its a book store. Okay its a rarity as big box retailers, Chapters, have decided 50%of their business is no longer books, so Chapters is more of a stuff stor than books. Or Amazon, shudder, where everything I buy something I can feel my soul get sucked out of my body by J.Bezos. The selection is pretty decent overall, classics overlapped with new age. But, there it is, its a great book store if you tend to lean politically left. Its in Kensington. What am I talking about? Books on radical race theory, Marxism, modern socialist thinking, gender ideology and the more rooted "woke" left thinking. Not everyone's cup of tea. I'm a centrist, a classic liberal or small c conservative. What I mean is I like government intervention in moderation, social progressivism and fiscal minalmism allowing free markets to do their thing. This book store caters to their base well. Among the woke bits there other less politically engaged books. And for the size a good offering. Didn't find my book. My criticism is staff. I walked in and was greeting by a distant hello and thats it. It was obvious my wife and I were looking for something (The Dying Citizen by Victor Davis Hansen for myself, not sure what my significant other was searching for). Nothing no response, left to fend for myself. This isn't unusual. Canada customer service is a genuinely lost art. Its like you show up and the staff are playing hide and seek. You can't find good help. There exceptions to the rule or in this store they may have had an "off" day. I get it, I've owned retail before. At the end I felt unwelcome and I left to find the book somewhere else. Overall if you want a bookstore that is a book store its a good place to go, that and swing by Vinestyles for a nice bottle of red or white to go with a good read. Which is what my wife did.

This bookstore definitely has a quiet charm to it which is not captured in the bigger chain bookstores in our city. There is most certainly a wide selection of books as well which you won't see available at other places. The categorizing is fairly easy to navigate and the books are very organized alphabetically. I always like the ambience of this shop as it is calm, quiet and peaceful; the staff let you browse on your own and take your time. I appreciate the chairs provided on the second level for sampling a possible purchase. My only concern is how steep the stairs are to the second level as they do provide a barrier to people who are differently-abled or do not have the capability to traverse stairs; yet, perhaps this cannot be helped with the unique building and location. Either way, Pages is always a welcome stop for me everytime I happen to be in the area.

This is probably my favorite shop in Kensington. Like the other reviews: beautiful atmosphere. Awesome selection of secondhand books in the basement. Friendly to folks and furry companions alike. I had a fantastic experience when I called yesterday to find a particularly book. Jenny had to put me on hold for a bit but then helped me find and reserve exactly what I was looking for, and she was helpful and funny along the way! I always appreciate full attention from an employee and I’m happy to wait a bit for great service. There are a lot of cute bookstores out there, but Pages will order any book for you that they don’t have in already at no extra charge, AND they are open til 9 most evenings which means those of us with weird retail schedules can actually relax and look around after work. Reward them with a visit! Bring the puppers! Enjoy!

This store is in one of the most eclectic and enjoyable streets in Calgary. A great place to wander and around and explore. Nostalgic and eccentric would be good ways to give a description about the arrangement and feel that this store is arranged. It's like you are in a store but in a well arranged attic of treasures at the same time. The floors are old original wood and tall shelves of books are arranged to tantalize your tastes. Every reader will find something here and you will also find that special card or gift that you realize that you were looking to get for someone special. As you walk up the stairs you will find an interesting arrangement of things, from gifts to historic attributes to a more formal arrangement of the old to the new. Sections have been well thought out and arranged for ease of view.

You can pick up some really nice books at good prices here. I was a bit disappointed on my first and only visit. I spent more than $150 on a few books and had just left. Not even a minute later I realised that I'd forgotten to purchase an extra copy of a book for a friend. I returned to the entrance and it was locked. It was 17:02 and the door sign said the store closed at 17:00. I waved at the lady that served me earlier and she came to the door and opened it. I told her that I'd forgotten to get 1 book and asked if I could quickly purchase it. She refused and said that they were closed. I understand that it was just after 17:00, but I'm pretty sure many other stores would have accommodated this simple, last minute request.

Probably my favorite place in calgary! They have a wide selection of books both classic and contemporary. Lots of different editions for paperbacks and hardcovers alike. My favorite part is probably their non-fiction selections. I’m more of a novel reader myself but the non-fiction books at this store are so diverse that I couldn’t help but pick up a few. Art, history, films, comic books, you name it. They have it all! There’s a basement for used books with very affordable price. And you can find a few gems down there Oh and also they have cool tote bags that reference classic lit too! Overall, very nice bookstore and would be coming here pretty often

Cute hole in the wall bookstore that's great for new, used, and trade-in books! Staff is very friendly and eager to help you find what you're looking for. Their online inventory management is good and gives you an idea on what they've got before you get there. They're happy to tell you about the new items they're getting and steer you towards the discounted bargain books if they have them available. Shop itself is a little all over the place but it's a cool atmosphere that just feels like a comfortable bookstore. Prices are competitive with the big names and I found with their bargain books they typically beat them! Recommend while in Kensington.

Pages is an introvert's paradise. Easily the best bookstore in all of Calgary. From the friendly and attentive staff to the calm and creaky floors of wonder! Every time I've went I've always walked out with at least 1 book! It's rather sad to see that the poetry section in most bookstores are often the smallest but not here! Poetry is scattered throughout but concentrated on the second floor. Easily the best selection by far. They also can order just about any book you want from their website if you can't find it on their shelves. I've spent more money than I'd care to know here. No regrets though.

I took my granddaughter in so she could chose a book. While waiting I asked a clerk about speculative fiction without the blood and gore found in most science fiction and fantasy. She replied “ Oh you mean grim-dark. What you want is hope-punk (who knew). She proceeded to pull books out, with great enthusiasm, and piled them in my arms. I bought two, and noted down the other names. Exemplary service! They also do deliveries, although they have added a small service charge now that the pandemic has…stabilized. Great store with great selection.

  • Alice Agapiou

My favorite bookshop to visit! It's always stocked full of every genre of book you can imagine, and has everything from Shakespeare to Bill Nye. It's 3 stories high, but my favorite area is the basement! It's a cozy and wonderful maze of old bookshelves full of all their sale books! This even includes hundreds of old comics (for $1 each!) and old vinyls. The staff have always been friendly and the book prices are always way cheaper than you would get them at Indigo or something. Also, the music they play is very calming. I love Pages!

  • matthew corliss

I'm honestly ashamed I forgot to 5 star this store, it's the go to book store for me and my girlfriend and that was often, we recently learned about their used selection down stairs though and it is so incredible. We just go down, find a book in a genre we like with a summary that sounds intriguing and buy that. Don't like the book? Good thing they're below a price I'd call reasonable so I wouldn't consider it a loss either way. Visit, browse, and if you can't find a new book you like, browse the used(I've found some gems)

  • C M

The worst organized book store I have ever been to. Said they had a book and I went down to the store and they couldn’t even find it. There is no organization whatsoever and the staff are completely unhelpful. The staff wouldn’t even try to find the book that their website said they had three of. New books are in poor condition as they just stack books randomly on top of shelves leaving creases and bends in the books. There are plenty of nice book stores in Calgary that you shouldn’t waste your time here.

  • Venessa Carloni

I love this book store! It’s cute, has good vibes, and so much selection! I was able to find some great options and it was easy to explore. Someone with dyslexia sometimes it’s stressful going to find a good book but with the cozy, quiet and low stress environment to pick out books it was a breeze! Also the staff members were sweethearts. The only thing was I wanted a tote bag but they were a crazy amount of $. might be the artist but anyways they were super cute so if you have the means go for it!

  • Bryan Kent

Excellent selection of new and used books, generally well priced. Stopped in to look around and was impressed by the prices for their second hand folio society hardcovers. Ended up getting a used copy of The Prince in excellent condition for $25. The only complaint I have is that their prices for the Franklin Library leather bound classics are pretty out of joint in my opinion. That said, their newer books are all reasonably priced and they have great selection. Will definitely return!

The basement library is a hidden gem worth unearthing. Its enchanting atmosphere, extensive collection, and commitment to supporting authors from all around the world make it a haven for book lovers seeking respite from the chaos of the outside world. Whether you are a lifelong reader or simply looking for a peaceful retreat, this basement library is a must-visit destination that will leave you captivated and yearning for more

  • J P

Excellent book store with friendly and knowledgeable staff. There are two floors and I'm not sure if the second floor is wheelchair accessible or not, but the first floor is. A wide selection of interesting books and it's more fun walking around this book store than Chapters or Indigo. They do sales and I believe they have different kinds of events held here at times but I didn't inquire about this in detail.

  • T Win

Lots of love for this bookstore. I like that they also scatter some antiques and typewriters throughout the shelves. They also sell some local merchandise and stationery (like along the wall of the staircase going to floor 2). Learned that there is a basement with some older/discounted/used books. 2-3 chairs upstairs to sit and relax to flip through a book. Can be slightly claustrophobic when it’s very busy.

  • Therese Dale

Love Pages. They are a mainstay local business with great service and a great selection of books. I am spending a lot of time at home right now due to the epidemic and Pages delivered right to my door, when I ordered online. They are speedy, friendly, and well-priced compared to other booksellers. I will definitely purchase through them again! One of the best small business bookstores in town! Thanks, guys!

  • Robert Keith

After doing a reading at Pages I put 3 copies of my own book on consignment with Simone when she worked there. I'm not local, but I tried to keep in touch with the store. I sent a few emails and messages on FB which were never replied to. I tried to call the store once and was hung up on. Today I got to visit the store and explain that I was owed money for book sales. What I got instead was "Oh, I'm sorry".

  • Nicholas Gunhouse

Fantastic bookstore, we'll curated so you're not seaching through clutter at larger bookstores. They make new book buying affordable and accessible with their large sale selection. They have a great visual arts section perfect for anyone in the market for them. As per vibes and staff, very friendly and welcoming haven't had a single issue and they are always willing to help. A highly recommend from me.

  • Rebekah Bulych

The charm this store has is unbeatable, as soon as I walked in I felt a sense of wonder and couldn't wait to explore! The selection of books is amazing and I originally went in to pick up an order, but couldn't help admiring every part of this bookstore. The staff was also very kind and helpful, and I left with my hefty book order, another gem I found while exploring, and a want to go back!

  • Holly Jones

I was online ordering books from Chapters while listening to Alberta at Noon on CBC. Some one called in and was talking about the great selection and delivery at Pages. I thought, why not? They are local, they deliver and they package in a paper bag! I was not disappointed. Lots of secondhand and discount books. I ordered on Thursday and got the books Friday afternoon. In a paper bag.

  • Durga Kale

The best bookstore in Calgary! The main floor is stocked with new books of all genre, and the manga section is worth checking out! And the basement - oh, it's a treasure trove! Used and bargain books housed in the basement are a treat for any avid reader. They also carry cool accessories (socks, bookmarks, enamel pins, tote, etc) at Pages! Definitely the top bookstore on my list now!

  • Ayisha Raja-Qadri

What a wonderfully quiet little treasure in Kensington! If you are in the area, you should totally pop in there for a wander amongst all their stories. There is a used section in the basement where there are many gems to discover. It is a feel good place where you are always greeted with knowledge and kindness. And I love that I am supporting local business.

  • Jennifer Le

I always loved browsing Pages whenever I was in the Kensington area, and I was really happy to see that they have an online system set up so I could still purchase books from the store during this time. They were so quick with delivering the books I ordered, and had clear communication throughout the process. Love being able to support local businesses!

  • Anna Chan

Such a gem, not only in Kensington, but in all of Calgary. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable, the website is easy to navigate with multiple pick up and purchase options, and the prices are the same as the big box stores which makes supporting local super easy. Don't miss the basement which is stacked from floor to ceiling with even more books!

  • Natasha

I absolutely love this bookstore and try to buy books here whenever I can, instead of going anywhere else. They can also order books in for customers at the front if you ask. Also, worth checking out the stairway to the basement and the basement area, lots of goodies if you're willing to dig. The staff are also absolutely lovely and so helpful!!

  • Jack Mills

What a cool bookstore. They have book themed t-shirts. The second floor has lots of cool art and non-fiction books and the basement is full of wonderful little gems. You can also buy some really cool notebooks there. What a blast. Get your coffee, have your breakfast and go here and waste a morning this weekend. So much fun.

  • Sarah Ford-Foo

PAGES IS FANTASTIC. The staff is always friendly and helpful. There is a great blend of used and new books. The new books seem to be thoughtfully selected. The store itself is an interesting space and every nook is full of extras like book bags and journals. The hours are good and the website is helpful. I highly recommend!

  • Gemma Garcia-San Roman

It is a great bookstore for specialized books and children/youth, for great atmosphere, just for browsing their stock. I placed an order on a recently released title, and got it via Pages, which felt really easy and convenient. Fantastic place for the feel of traditional bookstore and access to used old books:-) …

  • Laura

I made my first - but certainly not last - visit to Pages a couple of months ago. I was on the hunt for the original Nancy Drew books and found quite a few in excellent/like new condition, for a reasonable price! I was elated to find the books and felt valued by the friendly staff. What a treasure of a bookshop!!!

  • Ruby Kennedy

Pages is my go-to bookstore whenever I need to buy a present or just get out of the house. It's located in an awesome area with a cinema/café right next door. Make sure to check out the basement where all the second-hand books are, which can be as little as $5! The store is adorable and the atmosphere is great.

  • Rini M

I loved coming here before COVID and even now they're a gift to have close by. The free local delivery is amazing, the staff is super friendly, and even ordering stuff in doesn't take very long. I bought a book on Saturday night and had it in my hands by Tuesday afternoon, for FREE. Take that, Amazon!

  • Aisley park

My favourite book store in Calgary. So cute and cozy and they even have a used books section in the basement. Such amazing variety and cheap priced. The new books selections itself are also amazing. Some, you can never find in indigo and only online. A beautiful book nook for the fellow bookworms :))

  • Max B.

A very atmospheric place with an interesting selection of books, reminiscent of an old library and has a lot of entourage decorations. The second floor is filled with various decorations, for example, an old typewriter that you just want to touch until you see the inscription "Do not touch", huh.

  • Danielle Bellefeuille

The curator of the shelves in this bookstore has good taste. Pick a shelf at random and there's a good shot that you'll find a great book on it. If you're looking for a gift for someone, try this place out. They've somehow managed to stuff a little something for everyone into this small space.

  • Philip Young

The pleasant, cozy and well organized atmosphere of Pages can be felt the moment you walk through the door. The staff are helpful and have made some great suggestions to me in the past, and I've had some interesting finds and great deals! Not your ordinary book store!

  • Satish Vaidya

What a beautiful place! It’s my place of solace when I feel alone and gloomed, I just visit Pages on Kensington. It’s very well organised and have an amazing collection. Kudos to staff for maintaining the catalog well and keep it clean! Great place… love it! ❤️

  • Leaf Guillas

It’s crazy to me how unfriendly the staff are. How is it that I have shopped here 10+ times just in the last few months, spent over $250, and yet no staff member has ever said hello or thank you to me? They completely ignore the customers

  • N R

I absolutely love this book store. A perfect place to browse for books, stationary, cards etc. Definitely plan to go again and read a book whilst spending time there. I missed the basement part so will be making a second trip in the week.

  • Cassie Sutherland

Absolutely rude male staff worker at the front. Works as a cashier. Asked him for assistance and he refused with a condescending air by saying, "Do it yourself because no, I'm not going to." He did not budge or lift his eye away from his

The store is nice but the manager’s attitude is unprofessional. She was very egotistical by the way she talked and boasted about her store. I just dislike the way she treated my friends, I felt very disrespected as a customer.

  • Myra Alward

You can't come into this book store and not find something amazing! The staff are so knowledgeable and kind. Prices are more than reasonable. They also have local delivery in Calgary, which is just magical. Highly recommend!

  • Zem Lench

Seemed to have an excellent selection of books (although I am no scholar), and like lots of places in Kensington half the fun is just exploring the space. Feels like a bookstore from a movie where something magical is afoot.

  • Shawn Fehrenbach

The quintessential neighborhood bookshop. Always a treat to just stop in and browse. And some how they manage to have 3 times as many books as should realistically fit. It's just perfectly adorable and a Calgary treasure.

  • Connor J

Lots of books i did not expect them to have. So good variety. A little small compared to a chapters but its pretty good size for a normal book store. Nice workers. I give a decent B+ I grew up with pages in my book

Always amazing, picked up a lovely book on Arthurian myths. The two individuals working the counter that day were very helpful. (Also it’s a lovely place to stop on a hot day, the basement is very cool)

  • Rebecca Pinup

Lovely book store. Way more inventory then you think. Very happy nice staff. Their website is so full and up to date and easy to order online for in store pick up or delivery. I def will be back!

  • Amy Lemke

It was disappointing today to hear near-constant swearing from the staff from the moment I entered to the moment I left the store. A caustic atmosphere in what could otherwise be a nice bookshop.

  • Randy Chan

One of the few independent bookstores in Calgary; a must visit for book lovers. There atmosphere of the store easily gets you lost in the books and creates a sense of exploration and discovery.

  • LuftxMiantiao

Rather expensive for books I feel like it's priced higher than indigo for a lot of titles. The used books downstairs is a pretty good selection with a decent amount of books from every genre.

  • The Bhatman

Nice place, lots of books, I could spend days in there. Be aware that the main floor and upstairs sell new books, at new book prices. You have to go into the basement to find the used books.
