Peking Chinese Kitchen (Nov. 4, 2022) This is a revisit after Dec 2021. Don’t think I reviewed this place my previous time here. Came here specifically to re-taste the Egg Foo Young enjoyed about a year ago Dec. 2021. Traveled the morning from Milwaukee to Chicago via Flixbus (Decent ride, inexpensive price, a lot of open seats still available.). Arrived around 11:15 a.m. Did some “chores” - Bought caramel corn from “Nuts on Clark” located in Union Station, and visited Luke’s Italian Beef on Jackson Blvd. - then took the #22 bus to get to this eatery. Did not know there was no stop where I expected it to be, so ended up taking the “L” train back to the station closest to the eatery. Always unexpected journeys when you travel cheap. The location is unassuming. Right across the store is construction of some high rise started over a year ago, and looks like it will continue on for a few more years before its completion. The place was relatively dark and there were several tables and chairs for dine-in. Overall, the place feels old. Behind the counter is the kitchen and the glorious aroma of the cooking food will drift into the dining area. The proprietors speak Mandarin, which can be advantageous for Mandarin speakers. I have seen many menus while researching cheap Chinese food places, and this place is a definite bargain. The lunch specials are well priced, most under $9 (tax included) and come with a 12 oz canned drink from the Pepsi family. The pork Egg Foo Young lunch special was cooked on the spot and arrived quickly with two patties, a side of fried rice and a container of warm gravy. The Egg Foo Young was fine, slightly modified from the Cantonese version using bean sprouts, and uses cabbage as its base instead. The pork is diced Chinese BBQ pork, which adds a sweet flavor to the dish. The GEM is the gravy. Previously, it was a similar gravy but with heavy elements of garlic in it. While good, it had something missing. This time, the garlic flavoring is no longer pronounced, and whatever the store uses as its ingredients made it literally perfect. I am sure this gravy is also used to cook many of the other items offered in the menu, and this will likely make the taste of those dishes spectacular as well. If I were to reside close to this place in Chicago, I’ll likely eat here 5 out of 7 days a week. This place is likely the best Chinese “fast food” place I’ve eaten at just based on the taste of the grave itself. In case you are wondering, I am of Chinese origin from South East Asia. My overall rating is 5 out of 5 stars. Can’t wait to get back to Chicago and enjoy the food again. It is definitely a must-try place. Do tune your taste buds a bit, understanding that this is aChinese Fast Food place. Happy Eating !!!!

Ref: Order Was recommended to try from by two friends, Greg and Burt who are in love, with Peking. We ordered the egg rolls, dumplings, and a couple entrees with rice and noodles. The rolls were good and Noodles were worth holding on to, and the rest was just okay.. Without a Cold "Coca-Cola", to fizzz along the wayy. An unprecedented misfortune that will hurts & stay. Tis' the season to be grateful for the things you're given Eating these items without a "coke" should be forbidden. the bag was empty for a thirst needed quenching accountability is everything, and Peking needs a benching. Pls be transparent in these trying times, The cokes was missing in the bag of mines :(

The customer service at this place is horrible. I ordered regular Pad Thai and the dish that was delivered was clearly not Pad Thai. When I called to inquire, the lady who took my order rudely informed me that it was "my fault" and that she "didn't have time to fix my mistakes." I've ordered here twice before, and while those orders were technically correct, the food was never even above average. This 3rd try was definitely the last. Won't bother with a place that both delivers sub-par food and treats their customers so disrespectfully. Not going here again!

  • Steph Perry

This is delicious!!! With that said, the pad thai is odd - definitely different than what I'd call a pad thai but still delicious none the less. Very wide and thick noodles and more like a curry, but man is it good! The general tso's chicken is really crispy which I like and is very good too. No spice in the least in anything but that's ok. And it's rare to find a lo mein that's not over saturated, so good job on the lo mein too - its perfect! Yummy stuff! Big portions enough for two people!

Good food and good-sized ingredients. This place is around the corner from me, so I get takeout fairly regularly. The food is always good (exception is the crab rangoon, but that seems to be a Chicago thing). The service has always been good; very friendly. What surprises me the most is the size of the shrimp and veggies - they're much bigger than what I'm used to. This is especially surprising for the shrimp.

Delivery driver screamed at me for 2 minutes straight when I answered the door. My wife ordered from GrubHub and her phone wasn't getting reception. Our bad. Knock on the door and I greet the driver. Two minutes of pure unadulterated rant; I haven't felt this shamed since grade school. I could feel the heat from his blood pressure from my doorway. It took me several times to ask for the food and politely apologizing to just get him to hand over the bag of food and go away. Never again.

As I was eating my combo fried rice, a quarter of the way through the box I notice I didn’t see any more shrimp. So I ate another quarter thinking maybe, there’s s’more shrimp. Lord behold, I was wrong, there was no more shrimp. The next day I bought the same thing and counted the shrimp. They gave me 12. 12 medium shrimp for a large combo fried rice. This is a slap in the face, considering they pack so much meat in the rice. No cool guys, not cool at all, smh

  • Corey Wilson

Peking Chinese Kitchen is fine. If you're looking for an American-Chinese place, this is an option. The potstickers were fine. Not my favorite, but not bad. The combo meals come with rice. GrubHub didn't specify so it was impossible to tell. The general tsos was dry. Not as saucy as I'd like and the chicken was very over cooked and tough to chew. Overall, it was edible, but there are much better American Chinese places nearby.

  • Retired in Chicago, USA

Usually everything is good. Ordered as usual through GrubHub and they got my order wrong. Ordered shrimp with black bean garlic sauce and I got shrimp with broccoli. Virtually no sauce and full of undercooked broccoli and carrots. Not what I ordered. So they owe me a shrimp with black bean and garlic sauce for my next order, they need to be more careful, I mean really how can you make the wrong dish?

  • Rafik Awad

Good quality food, but uninviting space(dark and you always wonder if it is closed)...and not so great customer service. Price is higher than average Chinese food but the quantity is more, no complains there. The person taking orders seems to be confused most of the time, you find out why when you go into the restaurant as you see her in the kitchen and taking orders at the same time, she works hard.

  • Daniel Loudly

I’ve ordered here a few times because it’s so nearby, and they are very fast! Sometimes they deliver in literally 10 minutes. Sometimes though the food is overcooked and i have to throw out a few pieces here and there but no big deal. However. Once in a while the chicken is so dry and stringy that it’s not really edible. I guess I’ll just eat the Eggroll tonight!

Best “American” Chinese in the LP/Lakeview area. Tried this place and never went back to house of Hunan or yummy yummy. General Tsos is actually crispy and flavorful. Reminds me of the little strip mall Chinese restaurants I grew up going to in the burbs (that is to say, the best ones!)

Food was inedible, it's cheap but there are better restaurants close by. I had the orange chicken which tasted very processed and artificial, I wonder why there were orange skins in the sauce made a bad dish much worse. Egg rolls are mediocre and super oily just like there noodle dishes. As a new resident in the area I know I will never come back to this place.

  • lcsickler

Quick easy classic Chinese American food. I get egg foo young only place I can get shrimp toast. Skewers have great flavor. Only complaint is occasionally they over grill the meat. It gets dried out. There very generous with sauces also. Order over phone. On app and in store. Orders were accurate. And tasty. It's not fancy. But good basic Chinese American food

  • Taylor McGrath

My go-to for chinese food delivery in this part of town. Can you get better chinese from other parts of the city? Probably. Is it authentic? No. But it always delivers hot and fresh, the flavors are good, and it's a good amount of food for the price you're paying. Gets my vote.

They don't know how to make Pad Thai. Given they are a Chinese food restaurant that could easily remove it from the menu. They use the wrong noodles, no crushed peanuts, no eggs, and the sauce is oddly thin. This happened twice and now I'm done. The crab Rangoon however are really good. I would go there and only order those.

I have them for lunch usually once every couple of weeks. Their lunch menu has wide variety, great sized portions, and the quality is right on par for such great prices. My only real complaint is how stingy they are with their spicy mustard. When I say extra spicy mustard, I mean a gross American amount of it.

  • Katrina Jackson

I had order fried wings eggroll which were extremely greasy it wasn't good at all and order beef and broccoli which taste half done I ate out cause I didn't want to cook and end up cooking anyway that defeated the whole purpose I'm one unsatisfied customer that would appreciate a refund. wont be back

  • Jose Caraballo

Have been ordering delivery & pick up from here for nearly 8 years now.. always delicious, good prices, quick, kind and professional service! They’ve earned our business for as long as we are in East Lakeview! Definitely try their seafood combo and shrimp with broccoli! Love this place :))

the delivery time was fine and the portions were decent size. However, everything we ordered was horrible and had absolutely no flavor. The chicken fried rice was also yellow, which I have never seen before. It is safe to say I won't be ordering from here again.

  • Aretha Rowell

Bland shrimp fried rice and chicken, only taste the onion. Shrimp egg fu young was bland ,boring, tasteless, 1 small shrimp per patty. Fried shrimp was over cooked and hard. Skewers horrible dry over cooked. Needless to say, I will never order or recommend this

it only takes 10 minutes tops for the food to be ready. large portions & low prices! they give reusable/recyclable containers for take out and usually not too much plastic in general which is great great place but definitely not #1 in my books …

  • R John

We went here for the first time and the food was excellent. It was hot and freshly made. We had egg drop soup that was perfect and yummy Lo Mein. We also enjoyed the egg rolls. No problem with pickup. Everything was ready. Excellent take out.

Orange chicken was mediocre. Mediocre but edible. The fried wantons and crab rangoons, however, left me and my girlfriend feeling quite ill. You'll definitely be better off eating elsewhere.

  • Rebecca Poulos

oops! Mostly onions. This place is too expensive to not be good... but even contemplating if it was really cheap... like, half the dish was onions. I just don't really want to eat that tbh.

  • Patrick Yau

I really like their curry chicken. The chicken is very soft and tender - it is not easy to cook chicken breast like that! Lots of veggies too. One of the better chinese takeout places.
