For me, a new era has dawned for this previously beloved historic picture show, but now a bitter dissapointment of new ownership experience has arisen. Let me recount what's gone wrong. First & foremost the Regal's movie selection for the last three decades has been that of a well manicured gamut of movies from far away countries to entertain a mature & senior audience in a gentrified environment, but of late there has been a rash of noisy teenage popcorn films replacing the traditional manicured line up. James Bond, Mission Impossible, Indiana Jones & now Barbie are shown in their place. With my every visit, the admission price has surged yet again and again, even beyond inflation & now, an additional surcharge just to pay with any form of card! Don't even think about going on a public holiday! Annual loyalty cards for seniors that used to be free are no longer so, & offer no further discount for the elderly. It was embarrassing for my friend as she had to give her full name every time as if crossing a wartime border just to try and save a dollar. Ice-cream cones have just about doubled in price, lollies & chocolates have lost their shelf price stickers, so as to conceal their ridiculous cost, & any serving size of the above is only sold in jumbo proportions! The new web site is sloppy and ambiguous, littered with films from their other picture show locations. What were once lovely cinema rooms with fresh, clean & bright fabric chairs are now punctuated with oversize, sticky & peeling black vinyl seats that facilitate customer's to poke their bare & smelly feet up into the air upon foot stools. I don't know what smelt worse on my last visit, another person's cheesy feet as they burped and slurped throughout the movie or the "cheap in quality" but not so in price house wine they now vend since they are licensed. Thankfully there are still a few older & familiar staff faces beavering around that appear to relish their jobs but now appear to work solo, selling tickets, pouring alcohol & coffee, operating the cameras and doing the cleaning. Alas, management now seems to have implimented an ageist agenda to make this cinema just like any other run of the mill picture show, aimed at the younger set who spend their life away. I still have my fortnigtly movie outing memories of times gone by but the theatre no longer has me. So sad really.
I certainly don't find my visits to this cinema centre very pleasant. This recent visit was no different to my past 10 or 12 also over some years. I chose the this venue because it was screening a movie I wanted to see in a reasonable time slot that was convenient. I would not choose to go to the Regal otherwise. The ticketing prices are on the more expensive side compared to, say the Eldorado which is nearby and features more modern comfortable and sophisticated seating and a better range of snacks drinks etcetera. For my experience there has never a good vibe or a smile for polite service from the male staff. If I have ever seen or talked to anyone working here I have been treated like an imposter via a abrupt tone of voice and what could only be described as overly pushy and direct instruction. Not what one would enjoy on a social outing. The clientele is generally in the older age bracket. I noticed this last visit that the seating has been improved, which was much needed. On this visit I didn't encounter any staff. I purchased my ticket online and there was nobody available when I went into the cinema to check my ticket. Also nobody at the reception to offer any service for drinks or snacks. The clientele seated in the Cinema as usual, was generally in their 70s.
Prior to moving to Sherwood, I'd never heard of the Regal Twin before. Which was most definitely my loss. It's a blast from the past and left me feeling super nostalgic, as I was reminded of some of my earliest cinema experiences. Upon arrival, I was greeted by two mature, friendly, talkative staff members, both of whom appeared to have a genuine passion for cinema. They took the time to chat with me and told me how how much they thought I'd enjoy the film I'm was about to see. This was a welcome change from the usual consortium of bored and despondent university students found working in many of the larger cinemas these days. The movie itself was fantastic, but so was the whole experience. It's reason enough to shut off Netflix, get off the couch and head out to the pictures again. The Regal Twin is nothing short of a cinephiles dream and deserves the support of the film-going community.
Comfortable seating, great sound system and the new staff seemed relatively friendly. However, unfortunately, whoever is in charge of the theatre's digital projection didn't have a clue what they were doing. Firstly, the exposure was set so low you could barely make out what was happening, even in daylight scenes. I understand elderly customers often visit the Regal and brightness can be an issue, but this was set ridiculously low. Secondly the aspect ratio of the movie we saw wasn't correctly fitted to the screen so the top and bottom of the image was cut off! The only reason I noticed was because bottom rows of subtitles were missing! Both my girlfriend and cousin complained of this when we were on the way home so it wasn't just me. Considering the prices they ask for tickets and snacks, that is ridiculous. I've been going to the Regal for six years and this was never an issue before.
The Regal must be one of the best independent cinemas in Brisbane. The wide ranging movie program largely avoids the blockbusters and provides a good selection of the best of foreign films. My wife has to use a wheelchair for outdoors and We have been going to the Regal pretty much weekly for the past four years. During our visits we have experienced nothing but kindness and support from the team at the cinema. We have always been given priority access. While access is via a side entrance directly into cinema 1 and 2, that is to be expected when the building is well over 80 years old. Unlike the megaplex-type cinemas it is a real boon not to have to negotiate steps once inside cinema 1 and 2. We have always found a visit to the Regal to be a real pleasure and a lovely excuse to visit one of the nearby cafes.
I had the honour of meeting Andrew from Regal Cinemas today. I was simply walking in just to see if there was a toilet I could use and grab a quick drink to go then Andrew rudely yelled out "are you right there?!" in a very inappropriate tone. I even replied to him kindly "I'm looking for a toilet please sir" After I had told him that I was looking for a toilet, he rudely said there are no public toilets here. He didn't offer to direct me to one that was directly around the corner. I was not phased that I couldn't use the toilets but it was the fact I was spoken to soo rudely. Not only did I not buy a drink, I will definitely not recommend for anyone friends or family to go there.
What a great little cinema were visiting oz and this is the third time we have been there. I don’t think it was expensive as some people think as for the films you have to show a variety to suit everyone. The snacks and drinks etc will always be a little more expensive they always are but if you don’t support them you will loose them. As for the people serving at the counter I found them very approachable and helpful. In a place this size you can’t expect there to be two behind the counter for economic reasons, get there early as we do and be patient. I think it’s a great place for the community
Love taking my elderly mother here . She waits till movies come here . As our mood takes us , there is always good hot and cold beverages and snacks . Good to support a refreshing local busines that is not a corporate zombie chain . Usually plenty of parking even accross the road in this quieter area . Good old fashioned with personal service . Great coffee tea or hot chocolate . People say I look good for 93 , which I am nearly forty years younger . But this theatre looks better than even me .
The Regal movies show experiences that can't be found at any other cinema. Elegance of the theater just enhances the experience. This cinema also has a strong historical feel, which I personal like, and is a piece of history due to it being built in 1922. Again the cinema is a pleasure to go to and is always enjoyable. I would recommend this cinema to not just those who have experience in life, but to those trying to gain experience and knowledge.
What an icon! It must be almost the last truly personal, unique, quirky arthouse boutique cinema in Brisbane. The prices haven't changed for years, the dapper manager, a true gentleman, greets you with an elegance that makes you feel like a star. Wonderful! They do have eftpos now, but this place won me over forever a few years ago when I was caught cashless and the manager marched me to the counter and bought my ticket! Genuinely great service.
It depends what you are after. The Regal is an arthouse cinema so they don't show the major films. What you'll get is a genuinely interesting film, possibly with subtitles. Your cinema may be nearly empty, or maybe half full. The staff are a lovely bunch although they can come off a bit dotty at times. If I had to sum it up, this cinema is a perfect match for the Wes Anderson movies it sometimes plays.
I feel so comfortable at the Regal Twin. For one thing, the noise levels are suitable for my sensitive ears. At the big cinemas, I have to put in earplugs. Another appealing aspect of the Regal is the lovely people one sees there. And, of course, the movies are well selected and they feed this culture starved writer. IT IS THE ONLY CINEMA I VISIT IN THE WHOLE OF BRISBANE. Thank you so much Regal.
I have been attending The Regal Twin cinema since I was a young child, and have always found the staff very friendly and the movie offerings to be superb. They are also very courteous of people with a disability, and are always willing to assist in any way possible. It is a wonderful boutique cinema (my favourite!), run by lovely staff that are very knowledgable and helpful.
Fabulous experience, took me back to my teenage years, when going to a movie you saw all the locals, there was even applause, although to be fair, that was for Freddie Mercury! Great range of movies, lovely clean, comfy seating, easy parking, 30 metres from train station, quality venue, friendly staff, abundant cafes adjacent.
This is one of the few remaining surburban cinemas. Only two screens. Quite comfortable and better than a big cinema complex. We locals love it and would be lost without it. We went today at 10am (Crypt of Tears) and then had lunch locally at Botellon. There are plenty of other eateries to choose for coffee, lunch or dinner.
Great cinema, family owned and operated, but with everything (movies, sound and screens) that you'd expect from the big cinema chains like Event and Hoyts. We have our company end of year event there every year and have never been anything but completely satisfied with the experience. Just a great local landmark!
Great value, curated selection of great movies, beautiful venue, knowledgeable & friendly staff - this is great place to bring your friends. Casually, or as an event, the Regal Twin delivers entertainment and style. There are restaurants close by, and parking is easy too. Highly recommended.
I love coming here. One complaint only, and it’s constant. Need more than one person on the counter. We have to wait ages while they make coffees. Today was worse as both movies started at 10am. Queue was long and excruciatingly slow. Need one making coffees and another selling tickets.
Great little cinema! Good price and friendly vibe. The change to soft drink cans is a bit of a bother though - they don't fit in the cup holders! I guess it was a money saving initiative but it really shows unfortunately. Apart from this though, really enjoyed the experience
A great little cinema, showing mainly art house movies. There a lot of very good restaurants and cafes nearby. Public transport is excellent with a train station across the road and a reasonable bus service. Also on street parking in the area is usually readily available.
The Regal always has feel good movies to uplift and inspire. There are cafes nearby to linger and read the paper or catch up with friends to discuss the movie you just enjoyed together. It's a real gem. I wish we had something similar on the north side of the river.
Lovely small theatre showing some great movies that don't always get an airing in the mainstream commercial cinemas. At least 2 more movies coming out soon, both Australian films by chance, that I haven't seen advertised elsewhere and I'm keen to return to see.
Attended for the first time last week. Everyone was friendly and even made time for a chat. The four stars is just that our ice cream orders were mixed up. Little bit disappointing to get the wrong flavour. Not a great drama really. I enjoyed the visit
Just a beautiful little complex. So much nicer than the massive Megaplex complexes. Friendly family run. Always showing quality movies, community minded and a great location. Support small business and keep wonderful places like this open. …
If you want to see a movie, have a meal or just a coffee than this is the place. Great viewing of different films from the total crash and bang range . Parking is close and many with no time limit. Comfortable small twin theater. Privately owned
My sister and I have joined the cinema club as they are the closest cinema to show movies that can't be seen at generic cinemas. Regent Twin is clean and comfortable with very helpful staff. Looking forward to seeing more great movies there.
Great suburban cinema...not many left so good to see it going strong. Staff are marvellous and do a fabulous job of multi tasking as needed in a small and friendly operation. Good selection of films. Will be a regular patron as it is also
Guy who served me was lovely, ticket was a bit pricey as a student and the screen was at an awkward angle but far better than Cineplex and a the fact that I can watch arthouse films without having to travel to the Valley is nice
I wanted to see “Maverick” in a smaller intimate Cinema. And Regal didn’t disappoint. Close to local good quality restaurants ( next door) . On street parking across the road. Licenced and with great service. Great experience.
A great cinema for Australian film, foreign language films, & the new & unusual ones. Prices reasonable, especially if you are a member, & also good for Seniors & Pensioners. They make a nice cup of coffee too. …
Underrated little corner! It's clean, lovely atmosphere and a great atmosphere. However, I do wish they changed up the movies every once in a while. They seem to have the same ones over a long period of time.
Still has a modicum of the charm of a 20th Century picture theatre. Since the Classic in East Brisbane & the Regent Theatre in the CBD closed, I don't think there are any left in Brisbane still showing films.
What a great alternative to the standard chain cinemas. Great titles, friendly staff, good value and great theatres - sight, sound and seating. Avoid the standard hustle and bustle and put Regal on your list.
What a gem! So close to the city yet with that cosy homely feeling. Being able to escape the hustle and bustle from the big centre and big cinemas my weekends so light. Thanks and keep up the amazing work!!
Easy access via train and lots of on street parking. Very friendly and accommodating staff. Love the movies they have here, always something interesting. Wonderful atmosphere. Nice restaurants in the area.
Watched a movie here with my wife. The cinema is really nice and cozy without being over priced. Food is really cheap as compared to other cinemas. Seats were comfortable and the screen was quite large.
I experienced the Regal for the first time last week. The cinematic atmosphere is exciting and authentic and the staff are exceptionally friendly, helpful and hospitable. Can't wait for my next visit!
It is the only cinema we go to these days. It is small, usually not crowded, parking is on-street but not too hard (it's free), and the cinema shows interesting movies, and they are reasonably priced.
Beautiful small boutique cinema, catering for intimate arthouse and mainstream film releases. Totally enjoyed watching Supernova with my partner, touching and relevant to every relationship.
Great boutique twin cinema in the centre of gracevilles shopping precinct. Always a high quality selection of the more premium / arthouse movies available at any given time.
We regularly visit the Regal, it's the best local cinema around and the best kept secret. I'm a member, for the princely sum of $5 per year, it's cheapo Tuesday prices
The cutest little cinema, great for a date night. The only thing that would make it better would be if it were licensed, and you could take your drink in the theatre :)
Nice small cinema complex. Comfortable red leather seats. Friendly staff. Has a historic feel but well maintained. Alcoholic beverages are available for adults.
Nice little cinema with a great amount of history. I went here to see Bohemian Rhapsody (Great movie by the way), really enjoyed it, place is well kept.
Love our local independent cinema! Great movies, friendly staff and precious family / cinema history - enjoy it while we have it in this digital age!
So happy to see Paul back at the cinema. He provides such good friendly service especially to the Senior patrons. Great selection of films on offer.
Love this cinema and the people who run it. The screen is set up high so that even if someone tall sits in front of you, they won't block your view.
It's neughbourly. People there talk to me & prepare choctops minus the chocolate when I ask for them. It shows interesting movies. Love the Regal.
Lovely cinema and great customer service. We hold our Company Christmas party here each year because we are all looked after so well. Thank you
We ventured over the river to this boutique cinema. what a little suburban gem. Everything one expects from the "chains", but with personality
Excellent venue. Comfortable seating, reasonable pricing and great service. Good assortment of snacks. Easy street parking. Recommend.
This is our local cinema. We got there on New Years Eve to be greeted with plates of anti pasto for free! It very homely and intimate!
Great independent cinema with lots of excellent movies to choose from. The area has good parking and plenty of cafes and restaurants.
Nice theater with good eating places nearby. Being right opposite a station, very convenient to reach if you are not driving like me.
Lovely time had here starting with nibbles and wine then watch a fabulous movie. This was my first time here and enjoyed very much.
Love the place...it feels like a local store in a sea of supermarket chains...worth supporting. Very friendly personable staff too
Great little theatre. Good prices. Good selection of movies. Part of a local chain of great cinema complexes around Brisbane.
Love this cinema, always friendly GREAT movies, not just typical Hollywood fodder. Always well chosen movies. Top work people
Love this place.People are friendly and nice atmosphere. Reminds me how it was before people got greedy. Good family business
I enjoy their movie choices (seem to avoid Hollywood blah movies). Nice that can purchase a glass of wine to enjoy in movie.
One of my favourite cinemas .. show the arty sundance films . Nice seats and large comfortable space. Wonderful attendant .
This cinema was exactly what was expected, a older cinema which added to the experience of the Australian movie we watched
Lovely cinema so good to visit one that has an individual personality. Just seen loving Vincent a beautifully made film.
Wonderful cinema. Been coming here for years. Lovely intimate feel, wish there was a duplicate close to where I live.
Great little movie house, always has a good range of films to see, licenced, and new comfortable seats, check it out
Great family operated theatre with easy parking in nearby streets. Its also across the road from a train station.
Comfy seats. Food is a bit over priced so vring your own if you can. Tickets are cheaper than event cinemas.
Friendly, very clean toilets, new like seats, ok screen, always interesting movies (if a little off beat).
This cinema is fantastic. Great art house movies in an intimate setting. Why haven't I gone here before!!!
I am accompanied by a friend in a wheelchair. This theatre provides convenient access via a side door.
Friendly family run business Plenty of street parking and great choice of eateries for after the movie
Love this theatre. Has the feeling of the old picture theatres of bygone days. Friendly staff too!
A great local cinema showing really interesting movies that you won't find in the multiplexes.
Support independents and great movie selection. Friendly staff and great for a group outing.
I travel from Ipswich to see movies here, such a lovely atmosphere & friendly staff! …
Good movie selection. Good quiet, relaxing theatre. Have never had a problem with seating.
The cinema was clean, the seats were comfortable and the service was polite and pleasant.
This is a friendly little cinema, that shows the best non-mainstream and arthouse movies.
Chairs a little uncomfortable for someone with a bad back, but smaller number crowd great
Clean and comfortable. Good selection of movies and efficient ticket purchase process.
Our first time at this beautiful movie theatre after covid, will be back for sure!!
Great small cinema complex showing great movies that are not necessarily mainstream
Always love this cinema...close to great delis/restaurants. Great arthouse cinema.
Cosy, intimate and comfy seating. A lovely boutique theatre with delightful staff.
Awesome old school cinema experience. Service with a smile and quality movie list
They have a good range of movies , and the staff are always friendly and helpful
Nice friendly atmosphere, great value and good alternative selection of movies.
