Amazing hidden gem in the heart of San Jose. I have lived in the area for years and never thought much of going to this. It looks small from the outside but like the ancient pyramids, there's more than meets the eye! There are actually several levels inside, including an underground tunnel and recreation of a tomb deep within the catacombs. The grounds are much more extensive than what can be seen from the street and are nothing short of spectacular, including sculptures, fountains and ancient Egyptian symbols hidden amongst the myriad trees and swaying Papyrus. I'm so glad I finally went with my family! It's also reasonably priced and they even offer discounts for students, veterans and more. Do yourself a favor and take a trip through ancient history to visit Egypt in your backyard!

Amazing museum! General admission is as low as $9.- and on top of that you can watch free shows and get free tours. The gardens behind the museum are also just amazing! The museum has so many awesome things: mummies, a walk through a tomb, miniature displays of both the daily life for people in Egypt as well as miniature displays of building structures. Honestly this place is even better than Winchester mansion!!! My friends and I spend 3 hours at this museum and the gardens and all yesterday. I definitely recommend this place to anyone traveling through San Jose, it’s a one of a kind must see. Side information: We parked the car on a free public parking lot across the street, 5 min walk. The museum is wheelchair accessible, kids are free, with your triple A card you can get a discount, showings are at 2 pm and also 3:30 pm in the weekend, the museum has lockers and all building have bathrooms.

Rosicrucian Egyptian Museum is really a treasure of knowledge about the past glories, the people, the way of life, the rules laid and followed, the part and role played by women, the religious faiths, the gods and demigods, the most important mummies and models..all.. all.. fascinating experience to any enthusiast irrespective of age, gender, religion, country you belong to and be it an athiest.. this museum tells a lot with photographs, replicas, documents, reminiscents, real mummies and audio guide also. You are assisted with wheelchairs to climb the stairs by the staff with smile, whenever needed. You can spend a whole day here and a park around with beautiful trees and plants. Don't miss this awesome museum, which is worth paying the entrance fee.

You could easily lose sense of time if you are here at Rosicrucian's. It is a quaint place , telling you the history of one of the oldest & very impressive civilization on earth ! They also conduct workshops to engage visitors of all ages. Fortunately, on the day of my visit they had mummification workshop, where folks were given a kit with fake organs to wear like a jacket and the experts explained the process of mummification. It was fun and very educational. The artifacts, slabs, sculptures and the overall experience is very authentic. Also enjoy their peace garden, just roam around and you would be transferred into another world. If you get tired or need to step outside for a hot beverage, there is a Starbucks just around the corner , roughly 200 ft down the road. You must plan your next visit soon.

Very informative and educational. Strongly recommend! I didn’t know much about ancient Egyptian culture, but I’ve certainly learned a lot here! They have a wide collection, ranging from things the people used every day to mummies and even a tomb. They provide descriptions to almost all items, which is very helpful. They even created a lounge area where you can play “senet”, an ancient Egyptian board game, with your friends! The garden outside is also really cute — great site for photo shoots! There’s also a human-sized senet board outdoors. (You can even see it in Google Maps’ satellite view.) You can see how much effort the staffs have put into creating this museum. I had a wonderful time wandering around this lovely place.

This was a very unique and interesting experience! I’ve lived near San Jose all my life and had never seen this place before. The campus is actually very large: there’s multiple buildings, large gardens, fountains, lawns, photo spots, etc. When we came there were some people taking wedding photos around the campus. When we got to the main building there are huge pillars flanking the entrance before you walk inside. Price is pretty good - $8 each I believe. The museum itself is interesting, but the decor could use some updating as it appears a little dated. There’s a really cool “tomb tour” where a tour guide walks you around inside a makeshift tomb which we definitely enjoyed. There are a few different floors and exhibits to check out, so if you have a couple hours on a Saturday I’d recommend!

One of the largest collections of Egyptian art and artifacts. Adults (18-64) - $10.00 Adults (65 and older) - $8.00 Students with ID - $8.00 Children (ages 7 to 17) - $8.00 The Rosicrucian Egyptian Museum began with one small artifact...a Sekhmet (lion goddess) statue. By 1932 the collection had outgrown its original location, so an additional building was constructed – the Rosicrucian Egyptian Oriental Museum. The museum hours: Friday 10 - 5 Sat & Sun 11 - 6 Great for all members of the family but I recommend middle school aged kids because some of the mummy displays can be frightening for the little ones. Enjoy! -renaygarseeya

This gem was in the middle of a nice, walkable neighborhood. My favorite parts were walking down into a replica tomb and seeing the rare Cleopatra statue, which is only 1 of 7 in the world. There were artifacts that could have been better illuminated because they were completely in the dark, which is pointless displaying them. The gardens are delightful and great for kids and families. Try your luck in the labyrinth. Admission is only $10, with discount options for various groups, like seniors. I passed a small parking lot. The planetarium is closed for renovations and the library is only open on weekends, so I couldn't see it. Parents should know that there are mummies, though most of the kids today seemed fascinated rather than scared.

Very grateful to find this museum. Collections ~ Grounds and collections were very immersive. Lots of hidden gems. Curator's notes surrounded artifacts and models / casts with ample context. Top to bottom exploring "in detail" I spent about 4 hours here and enjoyed every minute. But if your party has ~2hr or less I think it would still be worth it and you can cover most exhibits. Experience ~Everyone in museum and all staff were helpful. Very clean and not too crowded if you go in the early half of day. Tip: Rose Garden is also close by, great place to go after. GPS will take you to the front, but make 2 Lefts after and you'll see signage for parking lot.

Fantastic collection of historic items and insightful remnants. Everything from collected pieces of tools and wares, to scale models of various buildings and temples, to even some full-body preserved remains. There's lots to see here, and it's all presented really well. There's also a guided walking tour through a mock-up of an Egyptian tomb, which is absolutely worth checking out (though it can be a bit claustrophobic in some areas). Absolutely worth the visit, and it's also worth it to check out the gardens outside the main building as well.

It's fascinating. The tomb replica is awesome. I liked the alchemy exhibit. There are some interactive features that are fun. The garden is so peaceful and beautiful. The models of ancient Mesopotamia are very detailed and interesting. The outdoor area is nice as well, there is a fountain, koi pond, and replicas of Egyptian structures. I don't think there is any air conditioning in the building though, and the coldest place in the museum is the tomb. Super fun though, and I'll be visiting again.

Total hidden gem in San Jose! It's been around since the 70s I believe and they've gone all out on the exterior of the museum. You truly feel like you're in Egypt! There's a beautiful garden in the back as well that's worth walking through. The admission is just $10 and you learn and experience quite a lot there! I'd say to really see everything it takes about 2 hrs, 3 if you're like me and don't want to skip any exhibits. Without giving away too much, it's worth going there! Don't miss this!

Wow, just wow. This place was super interesting with all of the artifacts. The outdoor area was in a word stunning. The history on display here is truly awe inspiring and takes you on a journey through time. The staff were very welcoming and informative. So much to see inside and out. The front walkway gave you a tiny insight to what your mind would be opened up to in a few moments. This place could easily take a couple days to see everything in its entirety. Thank you, when I am back in town I will be coming back for sure as I know I only saw the tip of the iceberg on our first visit.

  • Greg Anthony Calabasas

Great museum with free parking and very interesting Egyptian history and artifacts. Beautiful gardens surround the main building and you can easily spend several hours or a day to appreciate. Super awesome place to visit at a cheap rate. Got to Santa Clara a couple hours before our hotel check-in and had to come here after we saw it was close. They have so many items on display and you can get lost for hours diving into all the historical info they have. Would definitely visit again!

It was closed when I arrived at 5:pm. (I knew it ahead of time.) Just wanted to check out the garden. I parked on the street. Found a spot easily perhaps because it was a weekday and the museum was closed. I only saw one person in the garden in addition to my grandson and myself. The garden was well taken care of and designed. We strolled thru the place with ease with a stroller. It was kind of spooky having the entire garden to ourself. I probably watched too many scary movies. Don’t get me wrong. I like the garden. Will certainly go back for the museum when I have a chance.

If you are in San Jose, this museum you should visit. It's a cool place for family too. If you drive to this museum, there are two free parking (on Chapman St) behind the museum. Must visit the garden, it is beautiful. The biggest hibiscus tree I have not ever seen. If it's your first time, please stop the section behind the reception. The video shows the introduction of this museum. I love the idea they have their own app. It's so interesting to learn from this app and visit every sections. My trip for this museum was around 2.5 hrs. Love it. Strong recommend!

  • Mary Magpie

This museum is absolutely fantastic, but I'm heartbroken that they got rid of the gift shop. In 2004 I got some canopic jars and various other souvenirs that I still have to this day. I came to San Jose to visit the museum, and the staff said they got rid of the gift shop 10 years ago. Why? It could bring in so much revenue. I know that I was ready to drop at least $100 today buying more to add to my collection. What a sad day.

A must visit for archeology lovers! The museum doesn’t seem big first glance but the extensive artifacts are very impressive. Admission is very reasonable, $10 for adults and our son is 3, he is free to enter. There’s a $1 passport for purchase at the front desk. Highly recommend to do the tomb tour. The tour was not very long but very informative and the tomb is so well-done! There are gardens outside, so don’t miss it when you finish the indoor exhibition.

Went to Rosicrucian Egyptian Museum today without knowing what to expect! It was a pretty good museum to learn about Egyptian history. The entry fee was $10 for adults and $8 for seniors. The kids liked the walk in tomb which you can enter from one end and exit on the other end. Overall, if you are in bay area, you should visit this museum atleast once! You need approximately 2 hours to cover all areas of the museum.

Very Cool! Tons to see and read. Very Large Exihbit. Make sure you have at least 2 hours or more, to really see everything. The staff were professional and friendly. I highly recommend this museum for all ages. A great place to take your family. I recommend bringing ear pods or headphones, so that you can do the audio part, through your cel phone. Spent a lovely half day with friends and family at the museum. Learned quite a bit about Egyptian history. The collection is amazing. The grounds and the labrynith was lovely. The Planetarium was still closed. The kids loved the spooky tomb and passports are $1.00. Parking is free and if the lot is full there is a lot of street parking. Tickets are inexpensive. Wish there was a coffee shop in there.

This is a really awesome place and a must visit. Firstly it not very visible they should do something about that. Once inside its really amazing how many exhibits they have on display. They have divided the entire museum into several sections all of them with their own significance. All the exhibits have detailed explanation. You should have at-least an hour to browse through all of them. The ticket is $9 but worth it. They have discounted rates for Seniors, Military, Students. The staff there is super helpful.

  • Joanna Campanario

There is so much to see!!! You will not be bored. I especially love how they have it organized. There are also ways to be interactive. There are voice descriptions, games, and even a little passport book that you can stamp at different areas of the museum. Plus, there are gardens, koi pools, and a maze/labyrinth to explore I outside as well. I would love to go back and explore again as there is just so much to take in!

I didn't take many photos but I LOVE this place. Some of the types of artifacts include many things they used in their daily lives (pottery, jars, bowls, beer containers, artist/makeup tools, etc.), real mummified remains (both human and a variety of animals), sculptures/statues and figurines of all sizes and so much more. Recommended for all ages. Handicap and stroller accessible.

I decided to stop by for a quick tour at Rosicrucian Egyptian Museum. First of all I'm overwhelmed by so much artifacts that are in display in this museum. I actually thought that this place was small, but after going inside I realized that there are different floor levels. I find it nice, that they have easy access to a adublie tour. Overall this place has reasonable price range, plenty of free parking, and a great history lessons. I highly recommend this place for a quick historical education.

  • just fee

Lots of different artifacts. Information and history. Self guided tour available through the app. Very nice set up of the interior and layout. Exterior could use some work especially through the gardens. Parking is on the backside of the building then walk across the street. Front side is across the street from a high school. But first visit was really nice and very enjoyable.

I didn't know this museum was here. Anywho, this place is awesome. It is surprisingly much larger than it looks from outside the compound. Inside the museum, there are plenty of authentic artifacts and relics to look at and to read about. The tomb replica were you walk-thru was a nice touch and gave it an immersive experience. Always a fun trip. A nice collection of primarily Egyptian artifacts, including several mummies. The premier exhibit is a recreation of an Egyptian tomb, the guided viewings are definitely worth seeing. The alchemy exhibit on the top floor is a bit superfluous, but related to the beliefs of the organization who provides the museum so it is understandable.

It's pretty good, but I'm deducting some stars because apparently they told me it's cash only. So I had to use my Canadian credit card. But afterwards when I saw someone purchasing a passport, they used cashed for it. Overall this is a pretty good exhibition, it's quite worth it and there's a lot of information! The tomb was interesting, and there's a lot of nice places to walk around the museum as well. They also have free parking which is always great

  • Leslie Guido

Such an interesting, informational, and amazing experience! You can get tickets easily on their website... adults $10, students/seniors/kids $8 and free for children under 6. The collection in this museum was mind blowing (you can take pictures but without flash.) Free parking area across the street. The outside area is also stunning, which explains why people have their professional pictures taken out there. Can't wait to visit again!

Positives were that a lot of the interior displays were really interesting, also the exterior landscaping is awesome. The labyrinth will surprise you for not having tall walls. I would label it more of a succulent path. My favorite part was going into a tomb like tunnel that took you to the next section. Negatives were that some of the interior displays seem outdated and once you enter the main lobby and visit overall musty smell.

  • James Donohue

It's great to have this open again. There's a lot to see here, not worth coming in a rush, take your time to read and see the details, they're well prepared. Con: since the pandemic the external gardens and fish ponds seem in a bit of an abandoned state, hopefully they can get back to it's previous glory soon.

The tour of a replica Egyptian burial tomb was the best part. Very old aesthetic, inside the museum. A good amount of the museum is about death, coffins, and mummies. The lighting inside is very dim. The outside garden could be kept better. There are some nice Egyptian fixtures out there. Parking is free with a lot behind the building.

Amazing grounds with some of the best plants and trees in downtown SJ vicinity!!!! This is a little gem in the rose garden area and tickets r cheap. Highlight for me when visiting this museum? The Egyptian tomb beneath it. The audio gave a detailed explanation of what I saw on the walls. This museum has plenty of beautiful relics, models of archaeological sites, sarcophagus, and even an outdoor garden to enjoy. You won't regret visiting this museum of you are into Egyptian history.

  • Lara J

Great collection of Egyptian artifacts. Very interesting and great for all ages. The garden was also very nice, and I'd highly recommend you give yourself enough time to see everything. It is much larger than it looks when you first enter. The building needs some renovations, but don't let that detour you from the wonderful collection.

  • Ilina Kumar

One of the best museums I’ve ever visited! Despite being small, the displays were very interactive and informative (it felt like we were transported into the Egyptian civilisation). Displays were also easy to understand and not too over the top, making it universal for all age groups. Overall, this is definitely a must-see in my book!

This is a very good museum for the price. $9/general entrance is pretty good for the experience. It has a good collection of Egyptian, Mesopotamia, Persian artifacts. There are several human and animal mummies to see, sarcophagus, instruments, statues. I was surprised by the new exposition on Alchemy on the 3rd floor... We loved it.

First time visiting and we all had a great time. There is sooo much to see and I don’t think we saw everything considering we had lil ones. Regardless, what we saw was beautiful and holds lots of great history. Very appreciative of all the art created from Egyptians , pottery, jewelry and more. Check out my pics hope u enjoy …

Nice museum to spend 3-4 hrs in the bay area. Quite a number of artifacts on display. They also have a guided tour of the tomb between 3-4 which was quite good. Would recommend if you're in the neighborhood.

Bigger than it seems from the outside. Real-sized tomb is impressive. Overall the exhibition is so much more than you would expect from $10 entrance ticket. The kids 7 and 9 yo enjoyed the visit.

First trip was in 1995...I've been back 8 times since. Even if you see everything you can overlook a lot. The history before you is powerful and should remind us of the people that paved the way for us today. Will be back again soon!

Recommend to download their app and get the audio tour. Description in museums are self-explanatory. Some portions of exhibition reminds of movie The mummy. They have nice outdoor spaces as well.

The exhibits were very informative and staff was very friendly and helpful. If you are in a wheelchair don't worry they have a lift available so you can experience the whole exhibit as well.

It was very neat to visit. Loved the peace garden, maybe because of the weather I felt like I was in Egypt. Downside there were a lot of stairs inside the museum, they did not make us aware that we could use the handicap unit in the museum, so had to cut visit short. Now we know will visit again …

Great place to visit with family and friends. This takes you to the world of pharaohs and history of paper from papyrus. I recommend taking the guided tour which they have at 11:30 AM PST for no extra charge. Beautiful things to see both outside and inside. I suggest to have at least 2 hours in hand.

This museum is amazing and full of incredible artifacts. I'd highly recommend, for only 10 dollars entrance it's a bargain. Make sure to being cash though, they don't accept card.

They hypocritically wrote on the wall, "We have zero carbon emissions here. It is true after entering. It is full of the musty smell of death. For your health, do not come, or enter with a diving oxygen bottle."

We were in the area on vacation and really enjoyed the museum. There were tons of displays. I really liked the religious history part and seeing all the models of tombs scaled down. The tomb tour was also interesting and a great way to get immersed. Unsure why they don’t have a gift shop.

I'd recommend visiting this museum when you are visiting San Jose. It has interesting items, landmarks, and mummies found in Egypt from back then at its ancient times

Amazing museum. Don’t miss the Alchemy exhibit and the Rosicrucian Park outside either. No five stars on this review because they don’t have a bookstore anymore.

Pretty cool! And in our backyard! So neat to learn so much about the Egyptians and not have to travel to Egypt or the British Museum. The Tomb was the coolest thing...creepy but cool!! Kids (aged 10 and 12) enjoyed it. Needed more time to go thru the garden in the back.

  • Lisa Hardwick

Great educational experience for young and old!! The peaceful garden and labyrinth were amazing. Definitely bringing a picnic next time I visit so I can enjoy the soothing atmosphere longer. Staff is courteous and informative and the exhibits are very well layed out.

I love this place, have found childhood memories of the museum. Its chock full of great Egyptian artifacts, the gardens and buildings are beautiful. It dates from the mid 1920's and it's a nice day visit. The surrounding neighborhoods are very quaint and cute

  • Jessica Kelley

What a hidden gem! We had no idea what to expect on a rare rainy day, but fell in love with all this property has to offer. So very, very much tucked away behind an unassuming entrance. The surrounding grounds were such a surprise at the end, too! Charming!

  • Isshaela Ingham

This is wonderful. If you can, go to the talks. The thoughtful and generous detail here is noteworthy. Become a member, covers a few visits (takes more than one!) And you can enjoy the gardens any time and peruse a fascinating museum and library when time.

  • Alvin Gogineni

Great museum with free parking and very interesting Egyptian history and artifacts. Beautiful gardens surround the main building and you can easily spend several hours or a day to appreciate. The tomb was a total surprise and worth the price of admission!

  • Swetha Chellappa

Pretty nice Collection! They have a helpful guided tour too. Wish they had lunch options on site and were stroller friendly.

Very very cool place, highly recommend. If for nothing, the mummies and the replica cave is so awesome. The outdoor garden is nice to cool off. My only complain is it is open only for three days but the outdoor garden is accessible always.

The Rosicrucian Museum is a paradise for history buffs. Very well curated to exhibit all important features of the mystic Egyptian civilization. Make sure you have a map of the museum and not miss out on the hidden sections downstairs.

  • Charlotte Darby

This is a hidden treasure in the area. I’ve visited twice and the grounds are beautiful, and the exhibits inside while some are older, have a large collection of artifacts and casts of other artifacts.

My husband and I visited this museum about a year ago during our vacation. It was super interesting with lots to see and read inside. Also did the fun, little guided tour through the "tomb". The garden landscape outside was neat too.

  • Jennifer Chigbue

Very informative but the idea of actual mummies (i.e. dead bodies) being there was off-putting. Otherwise its a really cool place to visit.

Great place. Very educational. Lots of great content and artifacts. Great for kids. Has a Garden and planetarium. I give it a 10 star... If you are up north in Cali stop on by. You will be happy you did. Frewil

  • Peter Humphrey

Smaller Egyptology collection but really thoughtfully curated to explain the timeline of ancient civilisation. Most smaller artefacts are original though one or two of the larger ones are casts/reproductions

  • Al Mercado

A terrific museum with fantastic collection of Egyptian articafts and displays. The miniature models are a sight to behold! Highly recommended if you’re looking for a leisurely weekend activity.

  • Keara Simonetti

Family fun day at the Rosicrucian museum. I think I loved the papyrus class more than my kids did! And the garden didn't disappoint, even on a rainy day! The staff was so friendly and helpful!

  • Alejandra Giler
