This is one of the smaller safeways, and the selection is therefore somewhat limited compared to many of the other safeways in the city, I think it has about 3 non-grocery and 8 grocery aisles (including 1 frozen foods aisle) in total. It also has a starbucks kiosk with seating area, medium sized produce and meat sections, a fairly small dairy section, a pharmacy, a deli, a bakery, an olive bar, a fancy cheese and dip display, and a roast chicken hot lamp stand. Service is variable, one of the managers is INCREDIBLY rude to customers on a fairly regular basis, and once got so upset at a man who had brought his bike into the store (something I have done for years with no issues) that I thought he was going to punch the man, who had already apologized and was trying to wheel his bike out, but the manager had grabbed it and was trying to yank it away, presumably so he could throw it out the door himself? Shocking to see that Safeway considers someone with such a temper to be a suitable manager, but perhaps he's shtupping someone's daughter and can't be fired? Otherwise the staff have been reasonably friendly, though particularly knowledgable about the products they sell.

Got a raincheck from Safeway at Sasamat and I used it today at Safeway King Edward but the cashier name Lily (Asian woman) noticed that the person who wrote the raincheck forgot to write down the date and Lily made it such a big deal. I told her that I don't know because I don't work at Safeway and I didn't write the raincheck and she said "I don't know either cause the raincheck is not from our store". I asked her if it's a big deal that the person who wrote the raincheck forgot to write down the date and Lily answered "yes, it is a big deal because raincheck is only valid for 30 days and I don't know when did you get the raincheck". I told her that it's not my fault that cashier from Sasamat forgot to write down the date and she said, "I'll do it this time but next time I will not do it anymore". VERY RUDE. After the transactions she just put the receipt on the conveyor belt and did not say anything so I asked her the name of the manager and the store # (Pam / store # 4941). VERY POOR SERVICE.

Any time I want to get angry, I just have to go to this God forsaken excuse for a grocery store. Pricing is higher than 7-Eleven on some products. I'm not expecting them to be cheaper than Wal-Mart, but they are more expensive than Whole Foods on several products, sometimes by over 30%. They regularly run out of basics, like butter, coffee cream and free range eggs, forcing me to have to go to another store to complete my shopping. In the dairy section, if they do have it, it can't be reached because they are too lazy to regularly send someone into the cooler to push down the products within reach. You always have to check expiry dates, as they will leave products on the shelf long after expiry. You always have to check the receipt, as I find mistakes on about one third of my receipts. Unfortunately it's only two blocks away from me, so sometimes I'm forced to go there. But I would not recommend this store to anyone.

Very depressing store. I came back here on Friday after being away for a few months, it's still the same. It looks like Safeway forgot to do anything to this store...some shelves are bare, lots of product they don't have, lot of expired stuff. It almost seems like they're selling the stock they have left to shut down. But the worst thing ever...the cashiers are sooooooo slow!!! I was behind 4 people, and somehow it look almost 20 minutes. Anywhere else I go, they hustle to get people through. This store had 2 tills open during a busy time, and their cashiers couldn't move the line if their lives depended on it. I am always perplexed at how slow time moves in this place, it's like a black hole. But they have milk 8 out of 10 times, I guess. Other Safeways are NOT like this.

Usually I love getting doughnuts after I have cross country, but I got jelly doughnut, after one of my races and it was not enjoyable at all. The doughnuts are usually super good and the jam is so nice and smooth, but when I got a doughnut after a race I had the smallest amount of jelly, and the jelly was the consistency of apple sauce. It had no flavour and the doughnut itself was hard and stale. Hopefully next time they taste like they used to because I really love the doughnuts I used to have. I like Safeway because it’s a great store so I’m disappointed in this visit but I will definitely shop their again because they have lots of other tasty items.

When I was living at Ronald McDonald House with my son this was the go to, only grocery store in walking distance. Being on a budget I was always certain to shop sales as much as possible, and I have to say this store was the worst for not entering their advertised sales into the computer. On the positive side I almost always got items for free or $10 off my groceries because there was so consistently this problem (their policy is to give items for free up to $10 if you caught the mistake). Unfortunately 19 out of 20 people probably don't meticulously scan their grocery bills, so not such a great deal for them

  • Sonja Birch

This Safeway is huge with a wide variety of items for cooking and house hold needs. Every time I go it is moderately to extreamly busy...even then there is still a lot of room to move around. It has a Starbucks right in the store close to the frontdoors perfect for a cozy snack and cup of joe. Lovely and helpful staff make up for the issue I personally have with the washrooms. I often cannot get into them due to my stroller and the often crowded hall leading to the washroom. Once in the washroom is large, bright and clean. I just don't always know when I can gain access.

I got food poisoning off of a sandwich made at deli here, and had to take time off of work AND get a COVID test as my symptoms could have been COVID. My test results were negative. When I told the store manager, they offered me no help at all, and asked me if I still had the sandwich. Food poisoning isn’t instant, so no?? I obviously ate it??? If you are looking for good food that won’t cost you food poisoning, missed days of work and a COVID test, AVOID this Safeway at all costs. Who knows what other Safeway’s are doing if this one is doing this too?

  • Kevin

It's a Safeway. It has probably what you need as far as groceries and small household needs. However, small things make this particular Safeway difficult and unpleasant. Baskets seem to never get moved from the tills to the front of the store, a security guard wandering around watching you shop, employees that aren't too enthused to be working there (par for the course, I guess), essential shelves like milk, eggs, and juice that can't seemed to stay stocked. It's an otherwise serviceable and convenient grocery store, but it could be better.

  • Aaron Busch

The only thing good about this Safeway is that there's a Starbucks in an area of town where there isn't a whole lot of fast service restaurants. In terms of the Safeway, I ordered a meal from the hot foods area. Initially I was told I couldn't order a single item separately, then I was told that I could, then when I wanted to pay for it I was quickly told off to the regular checkout line, despite they had a place to check out at the counter. Not very good service here.

  • Trish Hunt

Went there during lunch hour to get a sandwich from the sandwich bar. They were very busy but the ladies behind the counter had an amazing system in place. The line moved very quickly which was appreciated. I have had bad experiences with the sandwich bar at another location and have complained to management on more than one occasion about unsanitary food handling. The King Ed Safeway gets two thumbs up!!! Incredibly clean and no questionable practices. Awesome job!!

  • Deb L.

I pretty much live at this Safeway because of the convenience. They almost always have what I want, the staff are mostly super. Produce is always nicely organized and fresh and the bakery too. I don’t love the prices but I think they are often lower than some competitors. It helps that they have a pharmacy too. The Starbucks is convenient but the line goes slowly because they consistently understaff it (not sure if this is a Starbucks or Safeway Issue).

  • Raj K

This Safeway is about 10-12 mins walk from my room near Queen Elizabeth Park. It’s close to TD bank and part of a small mall. There’s a decent sized parking lot. There’s also a few dining options near by. The Safeway itself is clean and welcoming. This particular store is not as big as Superstore or Walmart but reasonably big. It’s very convenient for small shopping needs in between the major groceries shopping to the big boys store away from town.

  • Mary Kean

This is my local Safeway that I visit at least once a week. The staff are great: helpful & friendly. It's not Whole Foods ( or "Whole Paycheque"!) in that the produce selection is not as exotic or vast. However, Safeway seems to be responding to the food security world and even has an organic "cart". I feel that the chain wd respond if we gave feedback for more organic food and for more cloth bags for sale or paper bags & not plastic.

  • Ben Klein

A good grocery store. They have fresh produce and a decent deli. There is a good selection of packaged foods. There is a Starbucks located inside. They is both a butcher and fish area here. There is abundant parking from the strip mall. They are on a major bus route and there is a bike rack located further down the mall. Pricing is a little higher than other grocery stores but Produce is usually better.

  • M Bhatti

This supermarket is located at a major intersection next to a Shell gas station, who happens to have the same loyalty points program (airmiles) so it's.always a good idea to gas up first because they usually give you coupons for extra points when you shop for groceries. The Safeway itself is pretty nice, produce is always fresh and well stocked and service is ok. Ample parking available.

  • Terry Gordon

Free parking a bonus in expensive area. Smaller older store but full function with bakery, pharmacy and meat department where they do the work locally which is very important to me that the local butcher is actually looking at the product going into the display. You should support this store as it will only be a matter of time before it's made into condos with underground parking.

  • TheVanc Reviewer

Alright so I wanted to review this place since I’ve been there couple of times. You can easily find out all the grocery you need, they’ve got freshly picked fruits and veggies as well. very spacious and the staff help you out very politely and patiently (which you hardly find in many other stores) It’s a bit too warm inside maybe they need to fix their air conditioners.

  • Carol Cremin

Poor customer experience. Don't shop here for large shops as this location tends to hide their grocery carts away, apparently because they get stolen. Had to ask four staff for help to get grocery cart and finally gave up and went somewhere else to shop. Come on guys-having grocery carts accessible to your customers is pretty basic business. Really disappointing.

  • Aaron Bohnen

My favorite Safeway location - super convenient on the way home from work. They are making a big effort with pricing - reducing prices on many items throughout the store. They have a Starbuck's in the entrance as well. All in all a good Safeway that certainly ticks all of the clean/well-stocked/convenient/friendly boxes. Reliable, consistent and very convenient.

  • Valerie Boucher

A typical Safeway. Decent sales and well stocked. Good bakery and they make excellent fresh paninis made to order in the deli. Staff are very friendly and personable as well as knowledgeable about products and services, willing to have a chat and offer suggestions. There's also a Starbucks on site but only one staff working in the morning so expect a lineup.

  • Ryan Riot

For several months (years?), Safeway locations all over the city & burbs have been adding self-serve checkouts, but for some reason my local has resisted progress with stunning determination. Makes me wonder, is the King Ed Safeway going to be around much longer? I hope not, 'cos when it's gone, we're sure to have a far superior chain come in & replace it.

  • Darren Snesar

Convenient location, that’s about it. Pre made departments are a joke (salads/soup/sandwiches). Deli sandwiches are good if you have an hour to wait while they make them. Majority, but not all, of the staff at the hot food section are rude. Nobody wants their lunch thrown at them. Consistently under staffed at lunch rush and never any express lanes open.

  • Wayne Mah

Staff are courteous and polite. Easy to find products. I like their handmade sandwiches, better than Subway and priced fairly. It is a shame about their hot food though -- use to have meal deals everyday. Now it is $2.19 per 100g... Now the food sits under the hot lamps and seems like they have been there the entire day (very unappetizing).

  • Randi Winter

This used to be my Safeway of choice when I worked close by, by now I "Safeway" around because of the profusion and convenience of stores. It is convenient and plenty of parking, but I do find that often my favorite items or advertised specials are not always in store. They are very good about rain checks if applicable.

  • Faye Foxe

I don't like the new system at the deli, at all. Although its nice that you can now serve yourself, everything costs $2.19 per 100g no matter what it is. I bought one scoop of ambrosia salad for over 3 bucks and two scoops pf french fries for 4 something. This is an outrage, they need to bring back the combo pricing.

  • Gregory McCay

Very pleasant & comfortable, well-laid out & well-stocked big grocery store---excellent quality fruit & produce, with a good-looking organic section plus in-store bakery. Often very competitive prices. Friendly & efficient cashiers and customer service. Nicest in evening when its quieter. Open till midnight daily

  • Ryan Cutting

I went at night and only one till was open. There was 6 other staff members all chatting by the costumer service desk and it took 15 minutes for me to pay for my basket of groceries. A second till finally opened as I payed. Self checkout was also closed. Hopefully service is better during more busy hours.

  • B H

I like Safeway. Not because it is the best products or more choice. No. Because it is open till midnight, because the light is not hospital white like Save on, and most importantly, they allow more space in the aisle so 2 trolleys can go without killing each other's hand like on Real Canadian Superstore.

  • Shayne Cohen (Talented Katz)

I hate going in this store. It's usually dark, tight aisles and over priced. I like going to Sav On if I can make it. That Safeway doesnt even have a option for Vegetarian "Gardain" nuggets or alternative meats. Good for maybe quick trips like a convenience store. If I could give it half a star I would.

  • T LC

The King Edward Safeway has a good sized selection, floral, deli, and meat departments, and a pharmacy. They also have a Starbucks inside. Parking is free but the lot can be challenging occassionally. The narrow, one way parking lot can be a bit of a wait sometimes but patience pays off more in the end.

  • Chi T

After they closed my Safeway at City Square, i have had to look for another store that i like. This is not the one. Usually the parking lot is full before dinner. Parking is better after dinner but shelves are empty. It just isn't the same. I doubt that i will go back unless it is a necessity.

  • Francois Robinson

My wife ate a sandwich from the deli here and got food poisoning!! She had to miss a day of work and had to get a Covid test because of the symptoms for her work. She called the Safeway and they wouldn't even give her the cost of the sandwich back. Terrible customer service. Lost our business.

  • Josh Levinson

Safeway in general has a good balance between variety and price. Their prices are more or less in between the cheapo (with crap food) stores and the posh expensive grocery stores. This particular location is relatively good. They usually (but not always) have the chocolate fudge cake I like!

  • rebecca brule

Ordered a sandwich from the deli inbetween jobs to quickly eat on my way to work and after a couple bites I noticed the texture was off. I took a look and the chicken they gave me was definitely partially raw . The store its self and the employees are lovely but it did make me sick. …

  • clayton johnny

Its a great place to shop and friendly meat staff well cause I'm a meatcutter my self at another establishment at loblaws independent grocery store in whistler. There produce is good an there pharmacy is also are very professional and they also have a Starbucks in there also well enjoy

  • Kevin S

Like this location for on the way to or from work. The cashier was talking smack about Sobeys and it was obvious that I did not feel that way about his employer. I was charged twice for an item and had to go back for a refund. You have a job, don't complain in earshot of customers.

  • Peter Johnny

The staff is good, very helpful the only problem I have is all the good products are mostly on the top shelf and not to mention there is a dip right by the Starbucks coffee shop. When your in a wheelchair it not fun with a coffee in hand other than that everything is good

  • Gordon Underwood

It's a nice atmosphere great selection there good deals, 10$ whole cooked chicken.security however follows people based on the clothing they wear which became apparent when I wore my sons hoodie with a skull on the back, but the guy who was stealing got left alone.

  • Katrina Friedrich

Great staff the lady in floral deprt went outta her way to make sure my daughters get well gift was perfect like she was making for her own child .!!! I was beyond pleased The man at till was also very helpful and funny always good get a laugh when ur down

  • Rob P

One of the worst Safeways you can shop at. Products are placed in the wrong spots, and instead of them checking, the cashier says that it's not the sale price like I'm trying to pull a fast one on him. So disrespectful snd rude. Never going there again!

  • Jamie Tracey

While Safeway usually has a very good bakery department this location has an outstanding bakery. Good selection of all the favourite Safeway breads plus some I'd never before seen. I was shopping late too when most bakeries get a little threadbare

  • Donna Lorimer

Not bad Safeway on Broadway more selection. .great produce ..nice having Starbucks for coffee..shelves were bare on Fiday evening not stocked regularly. ..by Saturday a lit of specials out of stock..too bad I like Safeway but prefer Kits Safeway..

  • Niko Zhao

If you cannot fill up the Balloon, you should let your employees know that. When I come in the store, every employee informed me that I can fill up my Balloon here, except the guy who refused me to fill up the balloon. The guy working in

  • Tamara Ismail

I was desperate for a Starbucks today, by the time I got there it was closed. Lucky for me, the man that was working there offered to make me a caramel macchiato and it was one of the sweetest things ever! Thank you for making my day ❤️

  • Pamela Henker

Dislike, not be cause its a bad store, but sadly lacks in gluten free items, difficulty locating items in store and variety. Couldn't find any bread. Needs better shelf signs indicating a product as gluten free. Saves time and I would

  • Nathan Kang

Just went in for a jug of milk tonight, but I was impressed by the young man working the till...very efficient, polite, greeting each and every customer. He had some jump and good energy doing his job. Keep up the good work Allistair!!

  • Fran

Good grocery store, clean, fresh and well stocked. High quality meat at affordable prices. The only thing I dislike is that cashiers always give me too much bags without asking, before I can say "no thanks". Please stop doing that!

  • Mack Benz

One of the older Safeways with a pretty basic selection. I generally end up waiting at the meat deli looking to be acknowledged, staring, but, they always get to you and are pretty good with their sandwich and takeaway food. …

  • raspberryplatypus

It's fine. Sometimes people take forever but not the pharmacists fault. The only thing is they used to have markers on the floor to guide the line and now people just stand wherever and shopping around them is a little trickier.

  • Libby Park Herman

One of the better Safeway florist departments on the west side. Their deli and fresh sandwiches to go are always good, too. There's ample free parking, they offer airmiles points and have a large fresh produce section too.

  • Donna-Maria Walker

Safeway King Edward is a good place to go if you're shopping for a picnic on the fly: they have a well-stocked deli, a great assortment of salads, and a large bakery. In addition, the staff is very courteous and helpful.

  • Santiago

This place should only be visited in an emergency or if your food standards are not too high. The produce aren't fresh, the deli is very basic, etc. Feels that they haven´t updated their products offer since the 70´s

  • Chris Small

Nice store, clean, friendly staff, decent deli. I wish they would go back to their previous foods that are ready made but that's really just personal preference. I would recommend this store to anyone in the area.

  • Darlene Wong

Typical Safeway market set up. This location does carry the odd items not found at the Oakridge location and this location is better at keeping their shelves replenished more often. No self serve check outs here.

  • Olive Kosheluk

Decent grocery store with middling selection and prices. It's a Safeway, so that's to be expected. This particular location has recently improved their produce section. I frequently find good deals on beef here.

  • E D

You can usually find what you need, but it takes a while before you do. The aisles need to be more organised and more information should be provided on the overhead signs about what items are in what aisle.

  • Kyle James Isaac

Good selection. Not the biggest Safeway out there, and produce section is a little small. But other than that, it's just like any other Safeway, prices are kinda ridiculously high now that Sobeys owns them

  • Shira Sachs

Extremely slow at sandwich counter during lunch time. With no attempt to speed or be respectful of our time, or others in line. When I have limited time for a lunch break, this gets extremely frustrating.

  • F. W.

Pretty decent place. Most of what you need should be in it and if you don't want to cook, you can always get something hot and ready or something to quickly throw in the microwave if you're in a hurry.

  • Kurtis Hanlon

Pretty decent selection of food. Produce and meat are a little lacking, but the layout is very clear and organized. The pharmacy seems to be quite acceptable. Fine for a standard family grocery trip.

  • Morgan McCarthy

Safeway prices are always a bit higher, but the checkout lines are well managed to keep it short and the cashiers are always pleasant as a result. Sandwich counter in here is quick and food is good.

  • Ed Bryant

The pharmacy staff at the King Edward Safeway are fantastic. They go above and beyond. I live 1 block from London Drugs and Shoppers on Broadway but will walk the few miles to deal with Safeway.

  • Dvir Koenigstein

Now here you will find anything you'd want. From coffee to hardware. Fresh food, canned food or frozen food. Large selection but not cheap. Open at a wide range of hours. Park on the lot nearby

  • Steve Whalley

This is a Gem of a place, particularly the two chicken legs and tastey macaroni & cheese with a drink in a can for $5 great deal !Please "Like" to show me I am making a difference. Thx

  • Oscar lou

They don't know BC's health policies, I literally showed them the BC pharmacy website for terms but they still wouldn't give me the service I'm qualified for. Avoid them at all cost

  • Mervin Zabinsky

Excellent variety with distcount at first of month...sometimes shelve tags are not very specific re price...staff excellent being supportive...great variety of goods...will be back

  • Fu-Hoe Paul Lam

Out of stock of chicken strips after 6:00 PM? . Out of stock of shepherd's pie after 6:00 PM? Got rid of half off discounts of doughnuts after 6:00 PM? Good service, though …

  • Katheryne Fidler

One of the smaller Safeway stores. Nice variety, good quality, friendly staff located in a small strip mall with a gas station and a bank. Safeway also has a built in Starbucks.

  • Connie Morris

Great store. But I found the prices very high. When you are from out of town for medical reasons and have no alternative, as prices are higher than most Northern communities.

  • Jogdish1000

Pretty solid Safeway. Has everything you need and a few conveniences. Produce, meat dept, dry goods, dairy and a deli with to go options. It's the "go to" supermarket chain.

  • Shay

Always friendly helpful staff though I do find the Deli under staffed all the time which being as busy as it is is not fair to the already overworked staff and to customers.

  • Ned Boyden

They care. Had a couple of shots and the next day the pharmacist called to see how I was doing. Our family has been coming here for years, and will continue to do so. …

  • Moon Shadow

The Isles are in big enough to move around with a shopping cart and the products are easy to find. Fast and friendly check out. Also a Starbucks is located in the store.

  • Christine Tan

Busy but lots of cashier open, friendly, lots of items on sale... 3.99 strawberries. Still gives out plastic bags for free. cooked ham in the cooked BBQ chicken heater.

  • Celeste Munger

Lots of parking. Very clean store. Produce section is of high quality but the selection is less than hoped for. Meat department is good quality but prices reflect that.

  • Anson Li

This Safeway is somewhat behind in technology. No self checkout, pharmacy section looks like a regular aisle. The parking lot can be tight. Service is still excellent.

  • Sean H

Typical Safeway. A bit dated but the staples are here. I've only every stopped in for dry goods or sandwiches. Quite wheelchair accessible and very helpful staff.

  • Myrthe Hermelink

I love shopping in foreign countries. This shop has so much food and so many options. You can literally find everything here. Would recommend food shopping here!

  • Pamela Morris

I couldn't get help at the deli register. There was five employees behind the counter and I tried to get their attention. All they did was talk with each other.

  • Charles Lee

This supermarket is a neighbourhood staple for decades. They sometimes have great Airmiles promotion. Parking is generally ample and checkout reasonably fast.

  • PS

Great customer service. The girl at the fish department, the one with tattoos is the most skilled and gracious. She is so welcoming that we keep coming back.

  • Ginny Phillips Allen

We shopped local market to compare to home in US. Interesting veggies, rhubarb, and beautiful cut flowers. And creme-filled Maple cookies were best purchase!

  • Kendra Wong

People are always so friendly there. Stockers will offer to help you find things if you look the slightest bit confused and cashiers greet you with a smile.

  • Lolita Ehrhardt

Staff are fairly nice and help you find what you need. Fresh food good prices good food love there Safeway select Black Cherry soda and hot food from deli

  • Matanumi

Been to a lot of safeway up and down the coast, this one is one of the best. Custom Service is top/ super friendly local Staff. Great location. Thank you

  • Mark Botwin

The pharmacy staff Graham definitely needs to learn some manners. Will I ever touch this crammed store with my toe. Management, educate your staff.

  • Saras Sukh

Cashier had no smile..no thankyou. I was just gotten off work. She was right to the point. Better service at Kingsway and Tyne st Safeway. Thankyou

  • P O

Consistently the slowest check stands of any Safeway. Product selection is good. They would be wise to add self serve. Avoid if you are in a rush.

  • Cinthia Layton

Busy but typically well-stocked and usually kept clean enough. Sometimes certain products get taken very quickly so you have to get there early.

  • JP G (Greywulf73)

Like this Safe way. Small-town market feel. Staff is friendly but that small-town feel also means that at times they don't have things in Stock.

  • Holly St. Pierre

Friendly staff and easy to find items. Bought a ceasar salad and it had no dressing...having these in a ready to go container would be nice.

  • Mark Wooldridge

Great Safeway store. Clean, well staffed and easy to get to. Especially useful for people at BC Children's Hospital as it is a short walk.

  • Anneke Smith

Huge grocery store? Yes; however, I go with my music in my ears, wander at leisure, get what I need, head out. Love those Air Miles, too.

  • Leer

It is a little busy and parking is difficult. Selection is good and was happy to see they have birthday balloons, and in store Starbucks.

  • Geoff Dyck

Great service. Safeway is my go to for groceries. Not cheap and you seldom find a bargain. But the lines are usually short and quick.

  • Instant Healer

Easy and plenty parking. Lots of shops nearby, gas station too. Coffee and dining area inside are nice. Staff were very helpful.

  • Cary Feldstein

Not the best Safeway. Parking lot is confusing one way rows. Store always has long lines to pay. Feels tight and short on space.

  • D Facchin

The quality has slipped since Sobeys took over. Okay for bread and eggs but skip the produce and their Compliments house brand.

  • August Caprian

Had a in store Starbucks with seating. The deli has an amazing eateria. Make what you want right in front of you!. So good.
