Simply horrible! I only hear negative things about the police force here and finally experienced it myself. I was driving down 600 south and was pulled over right before 500 east. He told me i was driving 42 and i asked why that was an issue. I thought the speed limit was 40. He explained to me that the speed limit was 30 and how it's tricky on this block because it goes from 40 mph to 30 mph just a block before he pulled me over. I apologized and told him that i wasn't aware and that i do not typically take this route to work. He did not ask me for insurance and registration, quickly grabbing my license and scurrying back to his motorcycle. I was certain that i was just going to be issued a warning but Instead of utilizing his power of discretion, he cited me and gave me a ticket. He then made it seem like he was "Doing me a favor" by only citing me for going 5 over the speed limit. It is very upsetting to know that he was clearly sitting there, knowing how the speed limit change is a tricky spot so he can up his quota. That is not what a police officer's job and focus should be! my uncle was the sheriff of Philadelphia, i could've easily used my FOP, but i didn't thinking it was not an issue and shouldn't have to do that in order to get out of a unnecessary situation like that. I even went to college for criminal justice and wanted to be a police officer! Officers like him are the reason why i decided not to. I hear situations like this all the time from friends and have lived in many states. I make it a point to ask my friends if they have ever been issued a warning and not one person can say that they have! Such a shame to have an unethical police force here

Completely disgusted with the way I was treated by the officers from this department. I have filed a formal complaint with IA but I wouldn't be surprised if I have some sort of retaliation for sharing this post. Badge happy officers that try to bully the public around. Unfortunate for sure, I have so much respect for law enforcement as I have several close friends that work for different departments, they would have never treated civilians so poorly. So sad really! I had been side swiped by another vehicle and apparently me being upset by the situation makes me a bad guy and watch out. I was told not to call dispatch because they have better things to do even though the officer wouldnt give me a case number or anything to prove he was actually filing the complaint at my request. Notice the extremely poor public reviews that this department has.. interesting isnt it? Clearly the city has a problem, I'm curious if anyone will actually do something about this. I would like to see the body cam footage of the situation. These officers involved should not be in a public servant job role, they act as though the public should serve them. This is why the public is becoming less and less supportive of police officers, all because of a few bad apples giving the rest a bad rap.

We have a really bad homeless and drug problem in downtown. With that being said, when you guys are sitting by Southern X-Posure Downtown by the off exit running a speed trap with 4 of you in cars??? Because speeding is really SLC problem? Seems like taxes are the problem here. When the officer came to my car he asked for my license. Nothing else... not registration, not insurance, nothing... he told me I was going 48 in a 40. I told him I didn’t come this way often and only used it because traffic was bad on the interstate. After I explained he quickly (literally almost ran) to his car. I thought I was going to get a warning because I have never had a ticket and didn’t know the area. He comes right back with a nice little ticket and then acted like he was giving me a “break” because “could have cited me for 8 over but only did 5 over”. Wow cool thanks...I don’t blame the officers I blame the people at the top that don’t care about anything but the bottom line numbers. I’m not complaining about getting ticketed for speeding. I’m complaining that you put more effort into speed traps then you do actual crime. Enjoy my money for your vacation.... lmfao what a joke.

Your Police lied on report and with news report. They stated Ryan Outlaw and his girl friend were exiting the elevator when they arrived and she was filled with rage because of him possibly cheating. Lie, he was on the floor of elevator asking for help and bleeding out. Girl friend was upset because police did not help him. Even though neighbors called 911 several times, there was a delayed call for ambulance. Yes these young people got in fight and girlfriend was wrong to stab him and should pay the price, yet police could have saved his life with swift medical and ambulance response. They clearly had no humanization for this victim in their response. He should be alive today, Police Chief and Mayor cover-up, shows they do not view him as human either. Heartbreaking and terrifying to observe. I would have done anything possible to help and comfort a dying man, they yelled "HEY CRAWL OUT OF THE ELIVATOR" offering no assistance.

Lt. James Tracy and Jeff Payne, are not worthy of wearing a law enforcement uniform. These individuals do not have any consideration for the law, and their illegal activities are to be brought to the forefront. Let. James Tracy and Jeff Payne should be made examples of, and should be terminated for violating citizens rights. Lt. James Tracy and Jeff Payne are rogue officials that should be dealt with the strictest word of the law, and at the highest court. Lt. James Tracy and Jeff Payne have broken State and Federal laws, and should be penalized for their actions being law enforcement officials. Termination, all benefits withdrawn without merit. Lt. James Tracy and Officer Jeff Payne are officials that work under their own fictionalized laws, violating citizens' rights, and arresting innocent citizens. TERMINATION & DISSOLUTION OF ALL BENEFITS would be the best outcome for Lt. James Tracy and Officer Jeff Payne.

I understand that being a police officer is a dangerous and underappreciated career and I'm grateful that there are individuals who wish to Serve and Protect. I just wish they could be more effective in solving real crime that affects law abiding citizens. I own a property in Salt Lake that has been broken into five separate times in less than a 12 month period. Each time the Salt Lake Police Department is contacted they come out and do a report but do not offer any practical help or seem very interested in catching the criminals. During one if these incidents, the next door neighbor called the police while the criminal was in the backyard taking items from inside the garage. But by the time the police showed up the thief was long gone. I feel powerless. Thieves can break into properties, take what they want, and little can be done about it.

Whomever the officer establishing the barricade on Bonneville Blvd and 11th Ave this morning was a real jerk. They put the barricade so far down the road with no signage to let people know not to turn off 11th. I politely brought this up to the officer as he sat in his vehicle, trying to bring to his attention the logistical issue as I saw it. It's just wasting people's time to put barriers so far down the road they have to make a U-turn, instead of just avoiding the road. Simple solution to wasting everyone's time. He looked at me as if I were less than human and addressed me as such, saying "so what". If I communicated with my patients like that, I'd be relieved of my position. As an RN, given the history SLCPD has even with other public service workers, I guess I shouldn't be surprised.

I did a ride a long years ago with the SLC police and even though they don't do rides anymore, find out if your local police do. It was very educational as to how and what these incredible men and women do every time they put on their uniforms. They never know what they are going to encounter. It's pretty scary stuff they do. They are always there for the public when you need them. I appreciate everything they do to keep us safe and keep the bad guys off the street. With all the cop shootings this year, they still put on their uniforms and serve and protect. If you get a chance, take your communities "Citizen Police Academy" and see and do what they do in detail. You will find a lot of respect for these guys. I support and appreciate the men and women of Law Enforcement. Happy Holidays!

I call for an ANONYMOUS welfare check for a senior citizen and the first freaking thing they do is give my full name even tho I said SEVERAL times to not give my name. I did not know these people, but someone needed to make sure he elderly woman who was not being taken care of, but they gave my name to these people first thing. Thank you SO much. I have always been pro police, I think they have a huge job protecting the community, but so far I am rather disgusted at the SL police dept. They drive by people gathering by gas stations that are OBVIOUSLY smoking crack, these people don't even pretend to hide it, they continue smoking in the middle of the day, kids around.. doesn't matter and the cops drive right on by. What exactly are our police doing in Salt Lake county?County??

  • ben roberts

Completely incompetent and behond disrespectful. I called to report a crime and the so called detective not only accused me of lying...she did absolutely nothing..gave zero concern about the nature of my call..insulted me... then hung up. Obviously the extensive problems and illegal activity that take place in liberty wells is due to the incompetence of those being paid by our tax dollars to find the problem...then take the necessary steps to fix it. I was told to find the problem myself...fix it...then call them like I'm on their payroll...complete disservice. Then in the same breath...they throw your assistance in jail for doing the job they are paid to do. No wonder this country hates cops and the system. It's a complete injustice and a waiste of everything..

  • Corinne McElhiney

I had a terrifying experience this last week, and officers quickly came and dealt with the situation and they were absolutely incredible. I wish I knew the name of the main officer who helped, because he was amazing. He was astute and discerning and extremely effective in dealing with the out of control person. I don’t know what could’ve happened without them responding or what I would’ve done! I am so grateful to know they are there to protect us and I have a whole new level of appreciation and gratitude for every police officer. Thank you for responding & serving! Thank you for your willingness and ability to handle crazy situations to keep us safe. Thank you!!

  • Robert Adams

Called 911 for a very scary situation where life was in danger, took police over an hour and a half to show up by which time I already took care of it, my family still lives in fear from this experience. Just today I reported a theft, I have a picture of the thief I have their name and the license plate number of the car they were in, no cops have showed up for over 6 hours! I saw plenty of speed traps on my way to work so I know they have officers being glorified tax collectors just none actually there to serve and protect. I don’t want to hate our boys in blue but you guys are making it hard to support you when you refuse to do your job.

  • Jackson Freeman

I support the police and am grateful for their service. It’s Frustrating though when they don’t respond to serious situations. I Was hired to board up a vacant business building that had been broken into by the homeless. I Called this morning 10:30AM to have the building cleared so that premises were safe and I didn’t run into any scary/crazy situations. I waited for about an 1 hour and 30 (12:00PM) minutes and officers were a no show. Still after 4 hours of waiting nothing. It wasn’t until about 4:15 in the afternoon I got a message asking if I still needed the premises cleared. Extremely frustrating.

I have had some weird and frightening experiences living near 21st and all. The SLCP do so much to make me and my children feel safe. Although these are not life threatening incidents they sure do make sure that I know they are about our safety. By calling back immediately to follow up, ensuring not just our safety but our neighborhood safety as well. They always go above and beyond! Providing solutions that help now and preventative measures for the future that make me fell safe. Thank you all!!

  • D Mesih

Officers Tracy and Payne. Thank god body cams witness the imoral and unlawful acts of the officers. Nurse Wubbels an angel like my wife who is a nurse doing what is moral and right. Thanks nurse Wubbels for protecting others and not submitting to the corrupted officers actions. Salt lake Police you need to fire those officers. No other right thing to do. If I did something imoral i would get the same a dismal from work.

  • Jack True

Quality control, well trained officers. Despite suspicions on multiple occasions, the officer's (remember they are in possession of the title such as Sheriff and Lieutenant, Deputy and the Captain). The Salt Lake City Police Department are just doing their jobs. Underpaid, dangerous, undeterred in keeping the peace. Show some respectful wishes please instead of breeding hate towards Law Enforcement.

  • LittleTunaLBZ

Don't have a problem with the police in general but I work for the railroad and they're always speeding through crossings and going around gates with NO emergency lights and NOT in an emergency! salt lake PD you are NOT above the LAW! what are you late for!? Church? Just wait like everyone else! 90% of the time you cross and park on the side of the street or up the road!

  • Roy

Went to Maverick store on 500 and 300. 3 squad cars sat as a man got chased down the street. Officers then proceeded to almost hit me with their cars and when I called them out. They chased me down with their car yelling at me, to intimidate me but when I brought my recording they stepped back. If a cop is willing to run me over twice on camera what else will they do??

  • Celeste Townsend

Perhaps Officers should take better care of themselves as in what they eat, what they drink and what they think. Perhaps the Police should consider daily yoga, meditation practices and reiki in a tranquil environment vs karma catching up. If karma catching up, A time to stop. A time to heal and a time to hear, cost effective vs bad publicity, bad reviews and bad news .

  • Benjamin Brown

I would give zero stars if possible. My car was broken into and they wouldn't even send an officer. There is zero effort on their part what so ever. Why do we even pay taxes for them to "protect and serve" when they won't even come to a crime. I will never make a purchase in salt lake again and I will move out of the city. What a great example of "public service".

  • Eddi Bradley

I was pulled over today by an officer Bishop (*) for the sole purpose that he noticed I had a flat tire and proceeded to change it for me. I’ve never experienced an officer perform an act of kindness the way he did today. Completely made my day and restored a great deal of respect for officers and this one especially. Thank you!

  • McKenna Drew

I am incredibly grateful for the Salt Lake City Police Department. They have been there for me to help when I needed them there quickly and promptly. I have been only treated with the utmost respect by the officers here. Thanks for keeping our city safe and for all of your hard work.

  • Lance Walker

I called to ask a simple question and was told to look on face book or in the news I think that it was one of the worst interactions with police I have ever had good job guy. the public relations is bad unless you speak to a supervisor. the supervisor is amazing.

  • MrMr Meta

  • Elishia

There has been so many occasions and good incounters with SLCPD and Chief Brown we have definitely been huge leo supports because of these officers even thou I was raised to be negative towards them it has been such an honor.

  • Its Time

What a disgrace to the uniform and all those that honorably serve the public. This Lt. James should be demoted and working patrol on mid-nights until he can get his head around what it is he''s really suppose to be doing.

  • Valerie Green

Thanks to the officers who responded to noise complaint call of under age drinkers up in rental house by the U. They quieted the party down without drama and handled it all professionally, quickly and with wisdom. Thanks!

  • Issack Bahena

Sergeant Wind is the goat informative and hilarious. Reminded me a ton of Sergeant Terry Jeffords of Brooklynn Nine-Nine. He deserves a pay raise for keeping the bad guys off the streets and being a beast. …

  • James M Thomas

Abusive.!!!!! They don't care when ex wife breaks protective order and you tell dispatch what has happened truthfully and they look it up and send a cop on your behalf cause you know the law and so does dispatch.

  • Anthony Weight

They dont care about the public unless it directly benefits them. Some are pretty shady (not all). Seems like they all need to go to driving school. All in all they're the worst police department I've ever seen.

  • Jesse Knorpp

Had a wonderful conversation with a woman from dispatch about local ordinances after an incident with a neighbor. Grateful for our knowledgeable police force and the friendly, professional attitude!
