I've had two encounters in the last couple of months that needed police attention, and I found both interactions to be unhelpful. The officers I worked with were friendly, but they did not seem wholly competent or motivated to help. One case was an incident of theft that we captured on video. I imagined that they'd tell me any information -what we could do and couldn't do or the odds of finding the guy, etc. But they didn't really take control or give me any feedback, steps, or information. Just gave me a case number and left me wondering what was happening. The second interaction was a recent case where two of my employees were physically and verbally harassed at an event. I first called a deputy in American Fork that I know who is very competent to help guide me when I spoke with the officers up here. I was prepared with basic info this time! The officer I spoke with was trying to be friendly (I think), but he talked down to me, gave me one option, and basically made it sound like I was not going to get any help on it. I was trying to get advice on what avenue to pursue and then pursue something....nope. Wasn't able to get anywhere. Again left me saying, "uh....aren't you supposed to be an authority on helping me understand how to navigate this?" If they can't give me help and information on these matters, who can? This department seems to need more education and training.

My home security alarm went off and my husband received a phone call saying the front door was opened which was locked when I left the house , we were notified that the alarm company was having the cops sent to our house so I hurried home to meet the cops and when I arrived no one was there so I waited for ten minutes before calling 911, the operator informened me no one was on the way because the cops weren't called so I had the cops come and I was informed to wait in my car with the doors lock and wait for the police to arrive , I waited 30 dam minutes and still NO ONE ARRIVED! So I called the salt lake city police dept to ask if anyone was on there way or if I should just go check out the house myself and he stated the cops were on the way ,it took another 20 minutes before the cops arrived , when the cops were looking through my house to make sure it was safe they were talking about other cases and joking and laughing which upset me because here I am having such a horrible experience and they are joking around , this unit definitely needs some professionalism and need to show up immediately in emergencies It shouldn't have taken 50 minutes!! My dog could have been killed if there was someone was actually inside of my house. How are we supposed to feel safe if the police aren't taking their jobs seriously .

Watched multiple drug deals go down well they towed my truck for no reason on a bogus traffic stop and made my pregnant wife and 4 year old stand in the rain well they harassed us and made fun of us laughing at us when they towed our truck there saying hope ur night gets better as me and my little family watch our only vehicle get towed and we got left in the rain! I see why the lds church is preaching not to talk to the cops anymore they flat out can be trusted and it takes some big men to bully a little family with guns and 6 officer's well drug dealers continue selling drugs on the corners what a sad department bunch of guy's that got picked on during school banded together to bully the people that pay there salaries what a bunch of zero's!! If I could give zero stars I would screw u guys

Rental Car was broken into two days ago. Had lots of pictures and told them there was a camera outside one of businesses. No one even bothered to come out and said go online to fill out form. Now I cant get a new rental car because they haven’t emailed me my police report and you have to have that to get a new rental car. They said my case isn’t even in their sustem online. Everytime I call them. They have no answers about things like my case number, the report I filed online. Whether or not they can check cameras. All I can say is this is a great city to come to if you’re a criminal. The cops here do nothing unless they have to because it will make them look bad

I've always had good experience with the officers even when I was in the wrong I'm a dog owner and i think they have all rights to protect their self and even if you have a fenced yard and sines posted you should always have control of your dog it should not be outside with out you even if that dog is for protection what if a little kid was to go in to your yard even if they had to climb a fence cause they lost their ball my dog is 185lb he is for protection and is never out by his self cause I know what kind of damage he can do do you know what kind of damage your dog can do

Do you really think that the PD would get a good review? Didn't think so. I can think of So many times in my life where I haven't needed the PD and they've shown up to ticket and Collect. I've also have been the victim of many property against me and I have not had them solved (Probably too busy "Ticket & Collecting"). This PD Should go back to the day when they were Peace officers and they main mission was to help the community and not harass them.

My daughter and friend at a concert down town had her window smashed in and car ransacked with id and wallet stolen. Dispatcher wouldnt send anyone to help these two scared girls that have never been through this before and were unfamiliar with the area. They told them to go online but no one was going to be sent to help. #saltlakecitypolicedept #dispatchdidntcare

Brother and I got scammed. Had all the documentation and proof. Even bank was willing to help. All the police needed to do was review the case. Declare it fraud and we get our money back. We have called every day for the last 3 weeks and the detective still hasn't returned any of our calls

Thank God this isn't an emergency, but the unified police gave me a case #, promised an officer would call back within 2 hours to take a report over the phone. It's 9:41pm, I called them at 6:55pm. I'm a widow, just lost my husband scared alone. Like I said Thank God it's not an emergency.

Cop pulled me over, was super nice and understanding. I still got the ticket I deserved, but we had a good interaction. These guys work with the worst people the area has to offer and they're still respectful.

Missing person! But why file? These guys wouldnt know how to the address unless they could pull what makes them think they're men. In Hope's of being able to use it on someone holding a spoon.

Merry Christmas to the officer who forced me into an ambulance , just had my last holiday check defaulted for it. Best part is he knew I didn’t have insurance and had cancer.

Dog killers. Any department that doesn't train their officers to handle animals shouldn't train them to trespass. Officer Olsen, rot in hell.

These guys are scumbags. They trespassed on a guy's property and then, because they felt like it, killed his dog. Shame on this department.

The officers came promptly and helped us in a very difficult situation. Very professional. Thank you.

I'm not entirely convinced this department exists. They've never responded to any report I've made.
