All right everyone the library just got even greater in downtown and the rest of the salt lake county library's. And here's why not only are you allowed to use the computers openly and renting books, they also have a wide selection of videos, cds, telescopes, rooms to host events in, an amazing area for the kids to also enjoy with multiple cubbies and coves to hide and play in, the downtown branch also has an out door amphitheater with plenty of seating, a community gardening area for planting in, spots for local vendors to rent out, but they also have an art gallery where they feature the art work of different artists from all ages, there are many work station areas with in the main part of the library to sit down and be able to plug in to, to be able to study or work at. When inquiring recently I found out that the downtown branch now has 2hour free parking in the underground parking lot. Another two new features that I found out that really give me motivation on is the new approach in lienancy on late return fees, which has all but been done away with, within reason of returning what was checked out, so no worries If you lost that book for a few months, go return it and continue to be able to utilize the system. And now they also have where they are offering upto like 5 free pages of printing a month. Which is absolutely awesome..

During my hols in SLC last week also visited the Library. What can I say? WOW, what an amazing, beautiful, stunning piece of modern architecture! When I stepped inside my jaw instantly dropped Didn't know where to look first to be honest! The use of so much glass tiles in combination with steel works inspiring and relaxing at the same time. There are a few small shops, incl a beautiful Art Gallery, a flower shop and some small coffee shops. Downstairs you'll find old pictures and exhibition of the Transcontinental Railway; mid-May 2019 there will be a celebration going on for the 150th Anniversary of it. When downstairs simply look up at the ceiling! Also walk through the building and have a look outside on the East-side. You'll get to see the rounded shape of this beautiful building. One thing is certain : I've never seen such a Library building like this one!

Breathtaking library welcoming locals and tourists alike. Being an out-of-state guest without a library card wasn't a barrier to enjoying the view and so many hands on activities. At the entrance indoor shops boasts plants, coffee and a bookstore. Below ground there's a full art gallery - much more enticing than the neighboring museum The Leonardo. Best of all, the children's library is an absolute dream! During our visit there were nooks devoted to camping, nature and treehouses. There are free snacks for hangry toddlers and teens alike, art activities and a knee-high chess board. I wish we had all day to spend here! Other reviews mention an outdoor space and seed exchange which we didn't get a chance to see this visit. I'd love to come back again!

This is the coolest library I've ever been to. Very accessible. The library tech went above and beyond to find my book. It's absolutely gorgeous with several floors of books and vendors, something for everyone. A definite must see in Salt Lake City. The shops alone are worth it and there's even a Cafe. Not exactly library related but as I was leaving a man was coming in and instead of opening the door or shuffling some bags around, he used the bottom of his shoe to push the accessibility button. I tried to tell him I have to touch those with my hands but he just kept walking. Please don't put your feet on surfaces other people have to touch! Same goes for public toilets. Wash your hands and your feet. Ya nasty inconsiderate jerks. Go support your local library and this one in particular.

Just want to express my love and appreciation of the kindness in the city! While visiting the library... I accidentally left my backpack in the bathroom, when I finally realize, it’s been 20 mins later. I run to the bathroom, and the backpack is gone… My heart was literally stopped at the moment , all my identifications, credit card, and 2 set of laptops are all in the backpack. I already started to think how to survive the rest of my trip with my limited resources -it’s gonna be hell… Holding no hope, I checked with the front desk… But IT IS THERE! Someone kindly heatedly hand my backpack to the lost & found! Everything is there!! My gratefulness is beyond my vocabulary… thank you, Salk lake city, and the anonymous who helped me!

This place is really unique. There’s about four floors to access. This was our last day and our flight wasnt until 730pm so we tried to stop by all the free locations we can downtown. It was pretty warm that day in the 90s so this city building definitely had AC. Parking: from what I saw I saw paid street parking outside. We didn’t have car so we just got dropped off. Ambiance: lots of natural light coming in from the roof. There was a museum section we caught at the top of he fourth floor. It was art from digital textures online. I thought it was pretty cool.

We love the Salt Lake City Public Library! It's a little out of the way for us but will come visit from time to time. They were doing the cutest activities in the children's section, and I'm so glad we stopped by. For the month of January, your child can adopt a small pet (stuffed animal), and it comes with an adoption certificate, vet check papers, and other activities ideas you can do with your pets. There are so many fun things to do in the kids' area, such as the vet corner. We will come back soon to play again! Park in the underground parking lot and make sure to bring your parking ticket in to get it validated.

The staff at this library are incredibly kind and helpful and they know what they're talking about. Some librarians elsewhere will give you a call number on a piece of paper and let you go find the media yourself. Almost every single time I've had trouble finding a media item and have gone to a librarian at the main library, they stand up from their desk and walk me over to the section, and don't stop there. They find the item I'm looking for, pull it off the shelf, ask if that's what I'm looking for, and hand it to me. And they always do it in a friendly way usually with a smile. I am so grateful for this place.

Beautiful place, full of tweakers. Took a nap on one of the couches upstairs and a homeless lady stole my headphones (caught on camera!!). Then I asked the security to help me get back my headphones and they did nothing to help. Another time I got up to talk to a staff member and within SECONDS a tweaker starts acting jumpy around my laptop and tries to steal it, and when I came over and looked at him he stated he was "protecting it" and followed me outside asking for cigarettes. Please get better security!!! I have felt unsafe everytime I've been here :(

Wow!!!! The Salt Lake City Public Library is amazing. The architecture is very original and well thought out. The library itself is great in all the ways you could imagine. They have computers on each floor that are connected to the internet. There is plenty of space for lounge chairs and private rooms. They even have a little strip mall inside and outside. Now they have a garden outside with signs of the different herbs and plants. Must see for all ages. Parking is available underground. The Leonardo Museum is located on the same block

  • Jonathan Wrigley

This library was awesome! The atrium is beautiful and you can take a glass elevator to the top floor and see everything below. You can go up to the roof where there is a rooftop garden and path that has been and seating. There is a great view of the skyline from there. The children's section is great with little alcoves in the wall where they can sit and read. Coffee, pastries, and hot chocolate can be purchased inside the atrium on the main floor and there are plenty of places to study.

  • Ryan Frazier

amazing library in architecture as much as its contents. Incredible resources. Lots and lots of books. The best part are the people who work there. The kids section is at the bottom and really fantastic. Don’t forget to to get your parking ticket validated on the way out for 2 hours free parking. Also - get the Libby app and use it with your library card :)

Wonderful place to hang out and view. This is such an architectural beautiful space. Great for wedding photos, graduation photos too I imagine! There is so much here and so many books. I’m a bit overwhelmed! They also have a maker space with 3D printers, audio room, sewing equipment, etc. For those concerned about the homeless; I wouldn’t be. They don’t bother you and they have every right to be here. Some of the reviews seemed a bit exaggerated

  • Local Guide

This is an excellent public space and a must see for any valley resident. The library boasts an immense repertoire of books on every possible subject matter, and has a book exchange program for any books they may not have. The library is also home to several outreach programs that do great work, and the library as a whole is a great place to meet interesting people. The employees are nice and the bathrooms are clean and accessible. 10/10

  • Weston Miller

Beautiful library. Too bad they don't do a very good job at managing the homeless population. I went to a bathroom on multiple floors and all three were disgusting and basically occupied by a homeless person. Told the employees on the 3rd floor and they told me it's a public library. I know there's not much they can do about it, but it annoyed me that they acted like I was the jerk for being irritated about the situation.

  • Darnell Kebo

Wow. Visited the city for a day and had to check out the library; it's one of my favorite sights in a city. The grounds of this library is beautiful. Great views from the roof top terrace and the beehives were an added bonus. I loved the cute little hair salon, library store that sold used inventory from the library and local products, as well as the art gallery. Really cool building. Located along Trax free ride area.

I have been coming here for years. Such a great public library that is well organized and super accessible. The construction itself is awesome and I believe has won awards. It has evolved and changed slightly over the years but it continues to serve the community in a great way. I highly recommend.

Great selection and beautiful building. Even has a rooftop garden to enjoy. With any public library in a city, yes there are homeless people about but they seem to stay to themselves and they should be able to enjoy the library just like everyone else. Although, a larger security presence might help put minds at ease as it seems many of these reviewers can’t be in the same space as someone who is homeless.

Excellent Library! Very interesting architecturally, creating a unique public space with a market of small business. Awesome quiet seating areas for reading, polite socializing, and people watching. One of the better childrens libraries, with fun reading areas. Great plaza with fountain and sculptures. Green roof with seating, as well as sweeping ramp access. Just a fun place, one of my favorites!

  • Mark White

Wonderful building. The children’s reading area on the first floor is top notch. We took my 18 month old granddaughter and spent an hour. They have have two themed playrooms. The reading nooks were awesome. The outdoor play area is great and very safe. They have lots of space for adults to sit and watch or read to your child. Wonderful place to come and play with your child. Highly recommend.

  • Al L

One of the best libraries in the US or even world. Its architecture and design is one of a kind and classic for libraries. This building doesn't need to turn on lights in the day. At higher level of the library, you can enjoy 360 degrees view from the library hall. Best of all, there is a rooftop garden and you can enjoy your meal at here (Sorry, I don't see any no food, no drink signage).

  • Monique Ting

This is one of the coolest public libraries I’ve ever seen or been to. It’s super modern and feels inviting. There’s a section for almost anything/everything you’d ever want to read at a library. On the top floor there’s a gallery and when I went there was a Chinese calligraphy exhibit/contest; children’s next to the children’s section and adult winners on the lower level.

  • Michael Brockett

We stopped in while visiting from out of town. My kids had a blast! They really liked the different children's rooms. Their favorite part was riding in the glass elevators. The parking underneath the library was very convenient and reasonably priced.

This is an incredible library situated in SLC downtown. Book lover or not, this is a must visit place for all. The place is an architectural marvel, with gigantic glass walls rendering amazing views all around. It might not have the greatest collection of books, but irrespective of that grab a book of your liking, get a coffee and spend few hours, you won’t regret.

  • Jacob Matthews

A modern architectural masterpiece that houses a treasure trove of knowledge. The library offers a vast collection of books, comfortable reading spaces, and a welcoming ambiance. The knowledgeable staff and various community programs make it a cultural hub. A must-visit for book lovers and seekers of intellectual enrichment. 5/5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

  • Robina J

This library is SO BEAUTIFUL and bright!! Lots of windows and seating. There’s also such wonderful artwork and little shops inside. The roof has a beautiful view of the city and a beehive. Apparently they also let people borrow puzzles and sewing machines here, and there are so many events. Happened upon a massive book sale today~

Who ever is funding this library need to stop since I being here maybe I don't know 29 days this library have being close 9 days without holiday involved the worst library of any state I being. They close for political view or excuse of there infrastructure and leave most users seeking for coffee shop as second option

  • Kimberly Webb

I really love this library. Make sure if you use the parking garage on-site you take your ticket in, they'll validate for 2 hours. Huge selection of books and services. The passport office looked clean and organized. Plenty of computers available as well as seating to just read and relax.

  • Troy Kump

TIP - be sure to check out the view from the roof. It's amazing! TIP - they have a great group on beekeeping TIP - great wifi and work desks you can use. TIP - be sure to check out the arts festival here each year in June! It's lots of fun, good food, and many amazing local artists.

Great venue, impressive architecture and array of facilities including on site cafe. Viewing area on the roof was closed when we visited. Only negative was large number of homeless people sleeping in the air conditioning and using rest rooms to clean up.

  • Ty L
