Shallo's is like a hidden gem of Greenwood. It's been around a long time but you may not know anything about it and just drive by. I have seen it for years and always just thought of it as a bar and since we do not drink, I never went. Well during Covid days of closures and difficulties eating in restaurants, my husband and I ate here because it was one of the few places open late one night when we were out. We were surprised by both the dood and service and have been coming back ever since. It is NOT a 21 and over establishment like I thought. They have a kids menu with the classic options and plenty of space for family seating outside of the bar area. While they do have a bar and a large selection of alcohol, it really is the food that has kept this place in business for so long. Their menu has a wide selection of options ranging from Mexican to classic American pub. My husband really likes their burritos and Buffalo chicken. I love their teriyaki chicken Alfredo. I also highly recommend getting their homemade chips and ranch for an appetizer....probably the best I have ever had. If you have an air fryer at home, you can get the large order and enjoy these at home as leftovers and they are just as good. We have also always been impressed with the service when we go. I have been at different times of day from lunch to a date night with different servers each time and no complaints. Always quick and friendly. So quit driving by this place and give it a try. It's unique in it's atmosphere with good food and service.

Visited on a Wednesday night around 7pm and had to wait for about 20 minutes before we could be seated. This isn't our first visit to this location but they continue to do a good business. We have always been happy with the food in service in the past and it's why we continue to go back. Once again, the hostess was friendly and gave us an accurate estimate of our wait. When we were seated, our waitress came to the table and took our drink orders and was pleasant. My wife ordered a plain hamburger cooked medium with the famous house-made chips and I ordered the swamp chicken (Caribbean sauce) with a baked potato and a salad. My food was very good. The salad was made with fresh ingredients, the baked potato was as good as any other I've had, and the swamp chicken was delicious. I finished both pieces. My wife's hamburger arrived and when she took a bite, she discovered it wasn't cooked medium. It was cooked rare. My wife called our waitress over and they cooked another one for her that was cooked properly. This is really a cool dining experience with the two levels and the low lighting and I'd recommend this to anyone who wants good food and good service. I truly believe our experience with the hamburger was an abnormal event.

Craig, our server was more than wonderful and I thank him. HAZARD - Toilet in women's restroom (maybe both of them) is not fully bolted down to the ground. The whole toilet wobbles. Not the seat, the toilet itself Restaurant is dirty, especially the window boxes (super dusty and possible spider web balls, idk what they're called). Made me mad since I had to sit next to all of that. It doesn't take long to clean. Take pride in your working environment, management. Gnats, all over our table & food. Made me lose my appetite because we were all having to swat them away, before, during, & after the meal. The dirtiness and gnats just made it gross. Fried pickles, good. Salad, tasted dirty & the greens were very warm. Teriyaki chicken was dry and not very tender with not much teriyaki sauce. Potato, good. Drinking glass, dirty (food stuck on it, not my food bc I hadn't gotten my food). Feces on toilet. Sad.

I haven’t been to Shallo’s in quite a long time but recently, my parents wanted to make a revisit so we did just that. Walking in, they were pretty busy and there was about a 30 minute wait. We were seated in about that time. Starting off, our waitress was super friendly, gave great recommendations on the menu. We got the house made chips as an appetizer, and they were amazing! Super crispy, salted really well, and overall, just amazing! As my entree, I decided to try the fish and chips. And well, it was okay, the breading was not very crispy and almost tasted slightly undercooked. There wasn’t much seasoning in it either. The fries were average as well. For desert, we got the brownie sundae, that was out of this world! The brownie was super gooey and baked to perfection. Overall, Shallo’s is a good joint if you’re in Greenwood. I’ll return at some point to try their tenderloin!

What a cool place to have a meal. A very casual atmosphere, and friendly staff. We loved all the antique relics that were throughout the restaurant. We started off our meal with Homemade Chips & Dip. Wow. The chips were thin, crispy and fried to perfection. The ranch dipping sauce was so delicious. Just thin enough to grab onto the chip, and it added the perfect flavor to enhance the flavor of the potato chip. The Buffalo Chicken Sandwich was delicious. The fries chicken was smothered in an amazing buffalo sauce that had the right amount of heat. The Swamp Nachos were chock full of meat and cheese that was piled on chips, and the portion was more than enough for one person. My wife couldn't stop telling me how much she enjoyed it. I had the Swamp Tenderloin. A grilled piece of pork with lots of cheese and sauce that made it messy to eat, and I enjoyed every morsel. We look forward to going back soon.

This is not the easiest place to find. Once inside, there are several rooms and seating options. This was my first time sitting upstairs and it was a nice view. I tried the buffalo chicken. This is a knife and fork sandwich due to the two chicken strips. The spice level was just right and flavor was on point. You have to try the homemade chips, so good with ranch. Our waitress was very attentive the whole visit. Looking forward to returning.

Hidden gem on the south side of Indianapolis. Antique interior without it being hipster or kitchy. They've got beer and burgers, and they are open late. Seriously check this place out! Also, unless you've got a party of 6+ you're going to want the half size of the chips appetizer, and get the sweet potatoes fries ❣️ Also, the wings appetizer is and can be an entire meal.

Shallo’s wasnt terrible but definitely way overrated IMO. Maybe we got the wrong stuff, but the food was pretty bland. We figured a burger and a philly would be a safe bet but they just were not that good. We got the swamp chicken nachos which were ok, but they put shredded lettuce under melted cheese, which resulted in soggy lettuce that looks like it came from a kitchen sink drain. The only part of the food that was very very good was the homemade chips and ranch. Besides for that, slightly below average, overpriced food. With that being said, the atmosphere was good and the service was decent. I’d probably only go back with a group, never on my own.

Wonderful food and experience as always. I've been coming here since I was a kid sitting in the family section. They have wonderful service and they have the best burgers in the city in my opinion! Wonderful homemade onion rings as well. My husband and I always go out to eat here when we go see a movie and every time my husband makes a comment about how wonderful the experience is. They always make our food to order correct and have not once ever had them mess it up. Their cooks know what medium vs medium well means and that seems to be difficult to find anymore! We appriciate that more than they will ever know thank you

We had shallo's on our places to visit because I like good french onion soup and had heard this was on the short list. It did not disappoint we will definitely be back probably one of the top three best french onion soups in Indiana. We also ordered the housemaid chips and dip because it was their specialty on the menu and they were delicious. They remind me of the Spiral potato on a stick you get at the State Fair. We live a bit of a distance away but we'll make the trip back soon just to eat here.

We eat there a lot and in the past have had very good meals. Not this time. I ordered a grilled tenderloin and it was swimming in grease. I used a napkin to try and pat the grease off of it but with little success. There was so much grease under it in the basket that it was nasty. I tried a little bit of the sandwich but it was too greasy to eat. I pointed it out to our server thinking as bad as it was she would take it off the bill. No such luck. I will never order a grilled tenderloin there again.

A really fun place for lunch. Took a date here around noon. The menu is large with plenty of options, a gigantic selection of beers, excellent pub atmosphere, clean bathrooms, and friendly staff. We had the chips and dip which was an excellent way to start a meal. She had the cheeseburger, I had the club sandwich. The club, fries, and chips were very food. For her burger she requested medium well and it was the right temp, but had too much char for her liking. Additionally, the oil for my onion rings must have been too cold because they were very greasy. Would have given the experience 5 stars except for the food errors. Will visit again.

The interior style and decor alone warrant a perfect score! Antique hardwood all around, rustic ad signs, tiled ceiling, just to name a few. Always a good meal to be had here, and staff are great each time I visit. If I recall correctly, early in the Covid pandemic, the restaurant offered free soup to people in need. While other restaurants struggled, Shallo"s not only pulled through, but offered help to people down on their luck. This place and the staff deserve commendation for being so charitable during a difficult time. May Shallo"s continue to prosper!

A paradise of fried food and beer. The homemade chips and ranch are ideal for sharing. The Buffalo chicken sandwich is oversized and spicy, exactly as it should be. Dishes that don't adhere to the "pub grub" rubric are less impressive: if you order a side of vegetables... you're getting steamed broccoli and cauliflower. Salads are just so-so. But you're not coming here for a salad, are you? The beer list is prolific. Tons of imported bottles and cans, dozens of drafts. It really is the place for suds.

First time eating here, and I am thoroughly impressed. Large portions at a reasonable price. My kids and I are already talking about coming back. They loved the chicken sticks, which are chicken tenders about the size of a full chicken breast. I had a delicious breaded tenderloin that was large enough to do the Hoosier state proud. Don't forget to get some chips for an appetizer!

Wow, where has this place been all my life? Not only are the drinks cheap, they're great. The food is really delicious -- salty, seasoned chips; cooked to order burgers, crispy chicken, fresh salads.... I really regretted not knowing about Shallo's sooner than this. It was a really awesome joint to hang out for a couple hours with some friends. The look and feel of the place is really unique. Enjoy learning about the antiques!

I’ve been coming to Shallo’s for years. Tonight I decided to bring my husband with me. The wait for the two of us was 25 mins. No biggie. I work in the service industry, I get it. We stood there for 40 mins with 4 open tables behind us that the hostess would not seat. Why would you not seat your guest? When i finally had enough I gave the hostess back the pager and told her why we were leaving and she just said okay while rolling her eyes. I will never go back. I can’t believe I hyped this place up to my husband. He even noticed that the employees were just standing around. Very sad.

Places like this make me grateful for my friends because before they dragged me here for an after work party, I only knew about it as an out of the way bar. While the bar is good, it's also a top rate restaurant with a one of a kind atmosphere. The big draw here is the Swamp Chicken, which is 10 times more delicious than anything starting with the word Swamp deserves to be, and while it's not advertised heavily, the French Onion soup is out of this world. The only things that keeps this place out of 5 star range are the prices and the fact that they're always understaffed somehow.

  • Diana Clayton

The coolest atmosphere in Indiana. The best service. The best food. I was so impressed by Jaleea our server. She went out of her way to help us! They also had the biggest beer selection I've ever seen. They have wine and liquor as well. This is a must try. Great date night spot. You will definitely feel special. Thank you Jaleea!!! I've always like this place. Fantastic beer selection. Pretty decent food. Friendly bar staff. But I keep coming back for the beer selection of course. They do have some menu items that are no longer on the menu that they still serve if you ask. My particular favorite is the quesadilla cheeseburger. It was a flap insert in their menu 10 years ago that no longer is there but it's delicious!

Party over 6, be prepared to separate.. We went for a family lunch after a hockey game with my in-laws, husband and four children. The food and service was amazing the only downfall was that parties over 6 are separated. So one half of our table got their food about ten minutes before the rest of the party. But honestly, the food and service made up for that minor inconvenience. We will be back.

This place has a nice little atmosphere. Cool decor with screens available for the games. I had the homemade chips and dip which was excellent. For my meal I had breaded tenderloin which had a great texture but a little under seasoned, kind of bland. Window ledges were pretty dusty and well as waded up napkins under the table legs to balance the tables.

A great place for dinner or lunch. We called ahead and the staff were able to sit our group of 8 within minutes of arriving. The place was hopping but the staff was very friendly and very accommodating to a big group with 4 kids. We tried the fried macaroni which was fried cheesy perfection. The beer selection was excellent, with a ton of options on tap to choose from. The chocolate peanut butter Porter was excellent. The homemade carribean jerk marinate and buffalo sauces were excellent.

This was the first time me and my husband ate here. We ordered pickup. Food was done quick. My husband enjoyed his Reuban sandwich. The Cajun Tips were amazing! However I got a tenderloin sandwich very bland and we didn't care for the fried pickles. Too much breading and no seasoning on fried pickles. Wasn't horrible but definitely not $50 worth.

The experience definitely isn’t worth the price. Ordered the two filet. First filet was okay, not very tender, second filet was very fatty which is odd for a filet cut. More than likely won’t return, only highlight was the selection of beer.

This is a great place to come and have a drink and some good food. They have every possible beer you could think of and also a very nice bourbon selection. Their food is very good as well.
