Stein's has been my family's chosen bakery for years. I was pretty disappointed with a special order cake I purchased for a party this past weekend. The first picture is the one I emailed to the bakery; I requested just the bottom two tiers (eliminating the marbled top tier). The second photo is what I received. It was a short, lumpy, unimpressive cake. While I'm not a baker, I feel like I could have done better. The day before my party, I called the bakery to confirm my order and pickup time. When I arrived to pick up my cake they could not find my order. The gentlemen who greeted me could not find the order paperwork or the cake. He asked me to leave and come back to pick up the cake at a later time. I'm 99% sure they didn't make my cake and they just slapped something together for me. It was embarrassing. Ultimately, when we cut into the cake, it was dry. Sadly, I will not turn to Stein's for cakes anymore.

When I moved to Dallas 21 years ago, my company bought me a birthday cake from Stein’s. White on white. I fell in love. We continued to buy from Stein’s for birthdays once a month in the office. When I switched jobs and moved to Little Elm, it was an inconvenience to get down to Stein’s for a cake, but when I got married, I knew I had to have a Stein’s white on white. They did a beautiful job at a reasonable price. Last week I got some good news at a doctor’s appointment in Dallas, so I chose to celebrate with a Stein’s cake since I was in the area. I called first and the young lady was very sweet and described the cakes that were available. When I arrived, the woman at the counter was also kind, despite having a line of customers forming. The cake was as delicious as I remembered. I think the bakery could use a little facelift, but I’m giving them five stars for taste, service, and nostalgia.

I have been shopping at Dteins for 25 years and this is the worst experience I've ever had since early 1980. First the service was dismal. There are no experienced adults running the establishment and the sales staff are less than eager to assist. They don't listen and the youth helping us kept touching the hair falling in his eyes then retouching the product with the same gloves. The coffeecakes looked stale. The few cakes they had looked fake because they didn't look fresh. I bought some cookies, petit fores , and Cinnamon bread which was a bit dry. When I got everything home I froze the Cinnamon Bread. and went to taste a cookie and it was cardboard. I tasted a petit fore and had to throw them away. They were like Paste. I wasted most of my money. I will not be visiting Steins again nor will I recommend it to anyone.

First time reaching out to them for a custom cake. Sent an email about a week in advance to no reply. Called them to see if it was possible to order what I sent in the email and was told to call back an hour later. When I did call back, the person who answered the phone was so rude and dismissive, barely even letting me speak to explain that I'd sent an email a while ago. They spoke over me and down to me that I "need to understand it's impossible to do without a week's advance notice, you need to understand that". Horrible customer service! I say, "forget it, thank you but I'll go with another bakery" and hang up. Because of that they finally decided to respond to my email and give me a price quote. No apology for the rude behavior, just an email about prices. I highly recommend taking your business elsewhere!

I absolutely love this gem of a bakery, the cheese pockets are to die for and you can't go wrong with the Petit fours, they're a must at a baby shower and or any gathering in general. Their traditional cakes are always a centerpiece with their gorgeous and equally delicious rose frosting flowers. Not to mention the ladies attending you are sweet and very helpful. If you don't stop by at Stein's you're definitely missing out on Dallas's oldest and most emblematic bakeries around.

I love Stein's Bakery! I have the best memories, as a child, of my mom bringing me in each year to pick out my birthday cake. I would go through the design book, page by page, until I found the perfect cake. My cake would always look and taste amazing! I have continued this tradition with my own son; I come in with a photo of something I've found on Pinterest and ordering his birthday cake, designed in the theme for that year (Monsters Inc., Hot Wheels, Batman, Airplanes). I always end up picking up a cake that is even better than I imagined it would be, and it tastes just as good! Thank you Stein's for being a part of our family traditions for 40+ years!!!

We got our wedding cake here and it looked amazing. They did a perfect job matching our inspiration. The little I tasted was great. I heard one person say their piece was dry but that was only negative I heard so maybe one part was dry but the couple of slices I tried were great. It was half vanilla, half chocolate, with cream cheese icing. We got it delivered, as far as I know everything went smooth but I wasn’t in charge all I know is that it was there for the wedding

Love this Bakery! A family favorite, we used them for our wedding, another family members' wedding and anniversary celebration. Our most recent experience with them we shared in celebrating with a miniature replica of our groom's cake for our 8th wedding anniversary. It was such a nice touch and our cake was delicious! Excellent customer service, especially via email with my busy schedule they responded quickly and made our cake beautifully.

Been a Stein's customer for over 30 years. The new management has taken the business down a disappointing direction. Order 2 cakes 8 days ahead. The day before as I tried to call to make sure no problems with order, they didn't answer phones. Cakes still were not ready when I got there to pick them up. The cookie cake had no decorations except plain line writing. Sad to see older, always dependable, business decline.

If I could get my money back, I would. Went in and got the petit fours cakes and I bought two. I never tasted anything so disgusting. It taste like metal. I don't know what happened to this business, but the cakes were horrible. I always get the cheese pouch and they were decent, nothing like the taste before, and they went up on the price. I will not be going back no time soon.

LOVED working with Stein's Bakery for my wedding. We had a free taste testing and they answered all of our questions any time we called. We had no worries about transporting the cake since that's what they do all the time. They did an outstanding job and everyone loved the cake and cupcakes! They were also the most reasonably priced for the quality they give. Highly recommend!

Juan helped me design a 50th wedding anniversary cake for my brother and wife. It was buttercream frosting white cake with raspberry filling. Wish I could post a picture. It had white roses on top tipped in gold. 16” base and 12” top. At the base were gold covered chocolate balls. It was beautiful! Everyone bragged on how good the cake was. Great job Juan!!!!!

  • Vanessa Cory

We’ve ordered twice from them and both times have been amazing. The first time it was a detailed 3 layer birthday cake and the other a 6” smash cake and 28 cupcakes with harder match color requests. They nailed it both times! Their pricing is on point and their cakes takes delicious. Our guests have all been so impressed and raved about how good they are.

I have been a Steins customer for over 25 years, so was very disappointed when I cut my son HS Graduation cake and it was dry and burned at the bottom. The decorations were sadly put together, the Graduation hat on the cake looked like a child did it. SUPER DISAPPOINTED, that my son's special day didn't have a beautiful cake to go with it.

  • Ayanna Allen

Went in for the first time today and all the staff were super friendly! Got some rum balls, honey pecan danishes, and a strawberry cupcake. The rum balls are fabulous! The honey pecan danishes had great flavor but were a smidge dry for my taste, and I personally didn’t enjoy the strawberry cupcake but I still consider it a good experience!

The cheese pockets are to die for Idk her name but the young lady who did this THANK YOU!!! I opened the box at home to my surprise she did this and she absolutely made my day!!! Not only is everything delicious but the staff is exceptional! Tried this Italian creme cake and it is now one of my favorites! Love love love this bakery.

If you're looking for a custom cake, Steins is the place to go! Their cakes are beautiful, but most of all, they are delicious! When I buy cakes from Steins and share with friends, they always ask where the amazing cake was from and on their next event they text me photos of their cake while mentioning how mouthwatering it was!

  • Kayla Kitt

My boyfriend went here for my birthday cake. It was very last minute however they got it done! My boyfriend had a great experience inside the bakery and I must say the cake looked and tasted amazing! We all loved it And I look forward to having them make my children’s birthday cake next year!

  • Sunia K

2 stars for the cute look of the cake but that's about it. Overly sweet without flavor, dry and unappealing texture. Walmart cakes are better. Should have just gotten a cake from there instead for less. Will not be coming back. Expected much more from 'the oldest bakery in Dallas'

  • Natalie Jardon

Poor customer service! My pickup time was changed without notification. On top of that I had to deal with the rude girl, rolling her eyes at me. The whole experience was very upsetting and don't plan on going back. We've been customer for years and they lost one in seconds.

  • Michael Rogger

Nice selections of cakes and pastries, this was my first time in the place, I was picking up a custom order for my wife (which turned out fantastic) and saw a few items that I had to have myself. They were delicious. Definitely worth stopping in if you are in the area.

  • poeticsong725

Used a Groupon deal to try this place out. They have a couple items that are good. But most are just dry and mild flavored different versions of the same cookie. Their cupcakes are ok. Their bread is good but grows mold so quick I'm never able to finish it in time.

  • valb8160

Birthday cake for 5 yo party: 1/3 white sheet cake - Took paper plate for suggested unicorn design, knowing it wouldn't be exact, but something to go by. Cake was very plain, mostly white, like it wasn't finished. Paid $79!! Delicious but design was disappointing.

  • Stephanie Clifford

Unfortunately, the customer service I received on the phone was absolutely awful. Very condescending, rushed and unprofessional. Stein’s has been my go to bakery for a very long time but after this experience, unfortunately will be my last.

Very disappointed, peanut butter cookies that tasted like grease and not like peanut butter, The choc eclair custard was sour. They have lost their touch. Willing to give them another chance. Been going to Stein's for over 35 years.

great bakery items. i stopped by on the way to the airport. first time in Dallas and this bakery. the pound cake and french bread stayed fresh on the plane ride home and lasted longer than 2 weeks in the freezer. petit fours were also delicious.

  • Bob Duran

My Dallas families' favorite. A historically rich, full menu deli for dine-in, take-out and catering. And our group of 12 did them all. EVERYONE can't wait to go here. And the catering items were Perfect. But allow brief waiting time. Worth it.

  • Erin Witter

I love this bakery and love the prices but unfortunately, it seems that they have has so much turnover, I have had the worst experiences over the phone with some of their team members. Twice now, I’ve been told to email my cookie order one

  • David Brackett

Stein's Bakery is amazing. This is the only bakery I use now. Three years in a row they have nailed the cake for my wife's birthday. Tremendous quality and excellent prices. All of the staff is very friendly and their turn-around time is

  • Martha Jones

I liked their baked goods so I though that going with them for my son's cake would be the best choice...however, I was wrong. Even though I paid a ton more than I would for a cake at a grocery store, the cake we got was dry, lacked much

  • C Douglas Way

Chips ahoy chocolate chip cookies are hands down better than their chocolate chip cookies. Their banana nut bread was made without any bananas. This was the worst experience at a supposed famous bakery. Walmart desserts are much better.

  • Shelby

I'm not even going to play: this place is the BEST. I got my wedding cake here and received SO many compliments! I've since returned for birthday cakes, cookies, and they even gave me a free cake for my first anniversary.

  • Brenda Costello

Cakes are improving! My husband's favorite childhood bakery. Cakes were dry and too sweet for a while. They have definitely improved. We got a chocolate cake and it was fantastic- very moist and not too sweet. So happy!

  • Andrew Green

Steins has made a wedding cake, birthday cake and other deserts. Have not disappointed and will continue to be a customer. Really like the strawberry cake and buttercream frosting. Old school, traditional bakery.

  • Darrell Martin

Wow what a disaster. I'll post pics later, but do NOT order from here. Definitely not worth the money. They completely messed up the cake for my brother in laws 60th. Way to ruin a beautiful occasion.

  • Candice Patton

We order from this bakery semi-frequently for office birthdays. The pies are wonderful, usually still a tad warm when I pick them up. Cakes are pretty good, occasionally they're dry though.

  • Michael O'Brien

Our bakery of choice since I was a toddler. All of our birthday cakes come from here. They are bakers not bankers, so you will need to keep you receipt if you pay in advance. Heads up.

  • Robert Wolfe

Perfection at its finest! Their attention to detail is unsurpassable! This is the first cake I’ve ever purchased here. I will definitely keep coming back for more cakes.

  • D Lamb

Bought Cherry Crown, 2 Cinnamon Pecan Rolls and Cherry Danish. $5.40. All were in display case so cold, but good. Place busy at 10:00am on Saturday morning.

I have been coming here since the early 80's and it's still a great place. Try the cheese pockets

I ordered a birthday cake for my husband last week and it was so good! Half lemon (his favorite) and Italian cream. Petit fours are always yummy!

  • Robert M

Love this old fashion bakery. Dallas oldest bakery and for lent and Easter still make the hot cross buns. Always fresh and reasonable priced.

  • Meagen Poston

I sent a photo for reference, and my cake looks nothing like the reference photo. It's misshapen, and I can't believe I paid $52 for this.

  • B P

Best birthday cake ever!! We get the white cake with white icing and frosting roses. Never tasted a better cake!! Get it every year.

  • Vanessa Andrews

They made this beautiful and delicious cake for my dad's 80th birthday. I'd give them 5 stars if they would communicate better.
