My experience today with Sunset was absolutely terrible! I came in with my 18 yr old Shih Tzu because my neighbors dog got in my yard and trampled him leaving him in a lot of pain and distress in his leg and shoulder. I bring him in and check in with the ladies at the front desk who clearly have no better things to do than gossip and talk about what they're doing this weekend etc. I wait in the lobby for 30 minutes while my dog is screaming in pain and unable to be still. I finally talked to someone to see how much longer and they took my dog back. When I talked to the vet she had let me know about his bad teeth which I'm aware of but him being 18 and they don't seem to hold him back, I said don't worry about it. A few minutes later the vet tech brings my dog in as he is heavily sedated and laid him on the table in front of me and said "tge vet said you wanted to see his teeth." I look up surprised and traumatized and said no I didn't. She proceeded to repeat the same thing and I said "no I never asked to see his teeth, I've had him for 10 yrs, I know about his teeth." She takes him back and then comes back later with a $1008 bill that I had a mere 5 seconds to look over before the turned the page and said sign. That's where I went wrong. They charge for anything and even random charges too. Paid that much just for them to tell me it's a little swelling, here are some pain meds. I was shocked at how disrespectful that vet was to bring my limp dogs body in the room with me to judge me on his teeth. The vet never came back in the room after the 1st she came in, she never explained the bill or created alternative options to save cost. This place needs a lawsuit. They are only after your money! I was so upset about what happened to my dog when I came in and even more when I left. Not only that but they prescribed him a sedative for pain but also prescribed an inflammation pill with food only. How is he supposed to take it while on the sedative???! Luckily I take my other dogs to Banfield but I will safely say I will never come back here ever again. They scam you on the bill, take your money during a time of struggle and then don't even treat your pet! Worst vet hospital in houston and by far the slowest as far as wait time.

Honestly the worst vet experience I've ever had. Rooms were claustrophobic as hell, a single stool and a wooden squat near one corner. Saw what I presume was the 'vet' once after about twenty minutes. Brought cat in for emergency abnormal breathing, instead of checking on cat right away, wanted personal information first. Priorities seemed mixed up until I realized just how much of a focus the place put on money. The exam itself was only 160, that's fine, but after being in that uncomfortable and awkward silence in that horse stall of a room, with my cat not even being seen in the room itself so much as taken behind closed doors and god only knows how much or little attention they actually received besides being in a $64 an hour oxygen tent, finally saw the 'vet' after 20 minutes who suggested x-rays and medication after for possible problems. 15 more minutes go by in silence while waiting for a quote, quote comes back for over a thousand, with 700 being for xrays and two separate consultation fees. And that's not even including further help. Absolutely f'ing absurd. 'How much just for something to help her relax until tomorrow' 'Let me see' 15 minutes again later, 'Okay here' 200 bill okay whatever fine just give her medicine and let me go 15 minutes later finally comes back with my cat so I can leave Go to pay, several more minutes while the front desk has to leave for yet more something else before letting me pay. I don't even know what to say beyond this is a comedy of awfulness and I'd leave a 0 star if I could except they were open 24/7 and I was able to get at least some medication to help my poor baby relax until she can be seen by a vet that doesn't expect their clients to have the wealth of a cattle baron. $64 an hour for oxygen, 'She needs to stay here overnight' yeah right. Who the hell charges that much money for /oxygen/, it's a cat-sized oxygen tent hooked up to a concentrator. Even hospitals don't charge for oxygen and they put people in lifelong debt over small procedures. I'd say y'all need Jesus, except I don't even think Jesus can help that nonsense. This place would probably charge Jesus for the nails that stuck him to the cross, by the hour, for holding him up.

I went to Sunset Animal Hospital for my 8 month old puppy she was sick and I didn’t know why so they was the only place that was available I waited 4 hours for her to be seen and once she was seen they did a few test on her that came back negative they also offered an x-ray I’m not a doctor but I know for a fact that she didn’t need a x-ray so I decline the x-ray and once I decline the X-ray scan they didn’t help her after that the Vet told me to get her help or she will die and they didn’t help me or tell me what I needed to do at least to get her to feel better the doctor didn’t offer me any fluid for her and they were done seeing her 30 minutes from leaving Sunset Animal Hospital my puppy died. My sister had to call the place to find out what happen and the doctor wrote in his notes that I decline her fluids and that my puppy was dehydrated which I also wasn’t aware of so please do not take your pets here ! If the Vets did a better job explaining what is going on instead of handing out a piece of paper with different test that nobody knows what they need why not tell us what we need to do to keep our pets alive if I would have knew she was dehydrated and I was offered fluids she would she be alive.

I found a kitten on the highway (I-10) back in August. I called around to lots of different places to see if I could take her anywhere, and everyone who answered the phone was rude and dismissive. Then I called Sunset. Kendra answered the phone, and told me that while they couldn't take the kitten, she could help me with what else I could do. She was sympathetic, sweet, and helpful. I ended up keeping her at a friend's place for the weekend, and decided to call Sunset back to make an appointment since Kendra was the only one who was kind to me. I ended up with Kendra answering the phone again and was able to thank her for her help. Fast forward to now, and my kitten has been going to Sunset for all of her veterinary needs. I'll be adopting another kitten that Kendra is fostering soon! The staff are inviting and caring, and always remember us when we come in. They love watching my kitten grow! I recommend Sunset to anyone looking for a vet who needs walk-ins or odd hours, and since I'm a student that's super helpful. I recommend them to everyone, really!

Emergency situation was treated with zero compassion or empathy. They were so dismissive to us when we arrived. We told them he was hit by a metro and his back leg is broken, they seemed so annoyed by us and our emotions and instead of taking our word for it, they MADE HIM WALK. This was after we told them repeatedly that he couldn’t walk. They wanted him to walk all the way into the clinic. This was after they said triage started at 1500. Like, am I paying for you to abuse my dog?? I had to pick him up to get him to safety which was away from them. Again, this is all after I told them that HIS back leg is definitely broken because he was hit by a metro. They couldn’t even bother to remember that he was a boy dog and kept calling him she. While dealing with an emergency the least you can do is show some respect for the situation and the people that are hurting. You may see this every day, but that was our baby that you couldn’t have cared less about. Shame on you.

This place is great. The staff are so reassuring anytime we had to bring outlet pups here in a pinch. There have been times where in the middle of the night they exhibit signs of pair or discomfort or they got bit by another dog at the dog park, etc. No matter the issue the staff were so reassuring and made us feel like we made the right choice to bring them to Sunset. Especially in times where you feel powerless over your pets pain/ discomfort or any issue they may be having you want to go to a place where you know they’re not going to miss anything and are going to get to the root of the issue and each time that is just what they did. Very grateful for them. Of course the prices are going to be higher than your average check up, especially during an emergency. But to be honest most people would be willing to pay just about anything to get their animal out of pain. So we weren’t too concerned about it.

I wish I had gone to another emergency vet because my 4 year old puggle was misdiagnosed and sent home without testing for HGE. He passed away five hours after being sent home with tons of meds and not the one blood test that could have saved his life. He was extremely lethargic and still bleeding when sent home. He couldn’t even walk more than a couple of steps outside, let alone go up stairs that he usually ran up two at a time. Chewie was the best companion dog that I ever had, always happy and energetic. That’s why I knew he needed medical attention that day and rushed him to the emergency vet. Dr. Hsu failed to treat him correctly the first time I brought him to this “hospital”. It took six follow up calls for me to even get to speak to to her, since she originally diagnosed him that day. Chewie deserved better and I’ll always regret bringing my baby boy to this place.

This was my first time here and I had an above the bar experience. My dog, Simba, has been sick for a few days and to make a long story short, I was nervous he wouldn’t make it through the night so I came in on a Sunday. I was hesitant because I just knew the bill would be insane due to it being a weekend. The front desk was very transparent about the pricing, and wait time, which ended up not being that bad at all. The facility was very clean and everyone was friendly. What I really want to make this post about is the vet, Gary! He was so kind and even did me a huge favor which I will never forget the kindness that was shown here. It can be exhausting, expensive and nerve wrecking going to an emergency animal vet on a weekend, but Gary went above and beyond with compassion and I am so grateful. Will forever recommend this place!

  • Reid Smith

I absolutely love this place. It does get crowded quite often so if you have to come for an emergency there is a good chance you will end up waiting a bit, but the staff is so sweet and friendly. I have had a few doctors work on my sweet Charlie. Dr Amos is by far my favorite. He had so much patience with me when I freaked out over my dog reacting poorly to a medication and helped figure out exactly what the problem is. This man is so good at explaining so that I fully understand what I am about to subject my dog to, and what to expect. I really love my experience every time I have to visit (which, unfortunately, has been quite a few times). Thank you to the entire staff for taking such amazing care of Charlie every time we have had to come in to visit.

I wasn't going to leave a review but they signed me up for promotional emails despite the fact that my pet wasn't even seen. I ended up leaving for a different ER (where my pet was promptly seen and treated) because this place had a 5 hour wait - which the woman at the front desk said happens very frequently. I understand that a vet hospital can get busy with acute cases, but they didn't even offer to triage my pet to make sure she was ok before telling me to sit and wait. I would hope that in response to frequent long wait times, a hospital would hire more staff to accommodate their patient load. I am giving an extra star because the woman at the front desk was very nice/understanding and offered to give me the numbers of nearby 24 hr vet hospitals.

I took my poodle here for a broken leg (she broke 2 bones). We were seen by Dr. Wesson and Kris within 30 minutes of arrival. I cannot express how relieved I was by Dr. Wesson's and Kris' professionalism, bedside manner, and treatment of my pup. They found a less radical treatment than an orthopedic surgery to limit my pup's discomfort and healing time. They answered all of my questions in an easily understandable manner. In addition, they also only charged me half the price for the X-Rays of my baby's leg. Sunset Animal Hospital is also extremely clean. I will definitely return for further treatment of Ruby. The staff took a very stressful experience and made it as pleasant as possible. Your pet is in good hands here!

This place deserves zero stars. It took me so long to write this review as it was a very painful and unpleasant experience, but I want to avoid other pets and families to go through the pain and financial burden we went through by taking our beloved dog here. Beware of falling into “Doctor” (more like butcher) Stallings hands. She performed unauthorized procedures in my dog and had the guts to charge us for them. She even neutered him (at 14 years old, for what?!!). We had to pay or they wouldn’t release my dog. I actually regret not suing this place. He came back home with severe depression and died a couple days later. Please don’t bring your pets here, don’t walk, RUN AWAY from this place.

My baby Marble received his 8wks vaccines 1/18/23. Unfortunately, a few hours later I rushed to this hospital for an emergency. Since the moment I walked in to the moment I left, My puppy & I were treated kindly. I loved how much they care about their patients. Marble suffered a vaccine reaction that led to his vomiting and swollen face. Sunset Hospital Doctors monitored him and gave them the best treatment. Within 50min of my arrival, I was already heading home with my puppy feeding much better! The front desk ladies and the doctors were absolutely helpful. They provided a discount that helped me so much. THANK YOU SUNSET ANIMAL HOSPITAL!

Staff was very friendly and understanding. I have a very stubborn and at times aggressive Corgi who hates getting his nails clipped so he always has to be sedated. Our previous veterinarian made us feel like we didn't belong and that we were more than they could handle, with each visit ending in them handing me a list of behavioral trainers. It was very passive aggressive. And very stressful. I'm very glad we went to Sunset. Got his shots taken care of in no time and his nails clipped. He’s a happy boy. Thank you for having us!

We had to take my pup here on a holiday (memorial day) for a nasty ear infection as they were the only vet office that would take walk ins near us. The office was nice and clean, and everyone there was extremely friendly and accommodating. Dr. Woods was able to see my puppy and we got meds right away. I felt the cost was fair and we even received a phone call the next day from Dr. Woods checking in to see if everything was okay. We are so grateful to Sunset Animal Hospital for being able to see our dog on such short notice.

Well been coming to this place 3-4 years now, and they do a great job. People there are nice, always welcoming. Took my lil guy in for a dental procedure, long overdue. Been trying to get his health back for years, ever since I got him back from my ex. Do want to say much thanks to everyone at Sunset Animal Hospital. Means a lot to me, being able to bring him home knowing he want have as much dental issue as he did. Hopefully keep bringing in to keep his health well, as it should be much thanks to all.

Terrible experience, brought my dog in for a simple check up, nurse said it would be an hour wait so they put us in a room. An hour later still no one came so i asked someone up front if anyone is coming they said they would send someone out then another hour and a half later we asked again if anyone is coming out, no one came so we waited for almost 3 hours and nobody came. Nobody knows whats going on in here. Plus we had seen customers come in and out while we had to sit in the room and wait.

My vet recommended sunset to us for surgery after an x-ray detected her intestine was very distended. Dr. Amos and the staff took great care of my kitten when she had to have emergency surgery for a foreign body. He explained the procedure to us, what our other options are and how they would affect her health, and also did a check-up on her the next day following her discharge. We have a happy and healthy kitten because of Dr. Amos’ great work! Thank you Sunset.

This was a great place to come for a non emergency after hours situation. I had no idea what was wrong with my daughter’s pup. The staff was great from the start. I read the reviews and was a bit tense at first. My worries we’re quickly put at ease with their kindness and seamingly genuine care for the well-being of Tammie. My daughter stopped crying too. We both thank you for taking care of her and getting her back to her chipper self!

Dr Amos and Justine were Amazing. Dr Amos made me feel like a real person and that my pet was very important. The care and consideration with honesty and integrity I will never forget, they worked within my budget needs and that was exceptional service . My Dogs are my life and I was treated with 5 star service at this Hospital. Even the reception staff is also very helpful and kind . Thank you for taking care of us on 08/04/2023 in the middle of the night

If I could give them a higher rating I would. I went in cause my dog swallowed the lining of a blanket & he may need surgery. One of the intake woman gave me recommendations to take him as the estimate for the survey would be between 6k-8k & I don’t have that money. I really appreciate it cause I am trying to do everything I can to help my dog and she helped me out. If you have that kind of money I highly recommend this place.

I wish I saw all the one star reviews before I came here. This is my second time here and 3 hours later my cat and I still haven’t been seen. I’m diabetic and about to pass out. I will never return here ever I wish I could get the wasted hours of my life back. It’s clear no one here gives af about my cat. I’m holding back bursting into tears. Take heed to all the one star ratings and go somewhere else.

They've been very helpful and did their best to work with our limited budget. We are very grateful for their care and advice in diagnosing Mango's sudden onset of Addison's disease and ongoing treatment. Dr. Enrique and Dr. Wessen were wonderful, and the staff extremely helpful. They've been very patient with our numerous phone calls.

Sasha and I love the Sunset boarding technicians and front desk professionals so much!! I board my little chihuahua here quite often and I never have to worry about her. They have literally been the reason that I have been able to keep my fur baby. Their medical care group is also phenomenal. Thanks a million! :)

After being given an exam room for a more private waiting experience, the vet tech checked in frequently with updates on ETA of doctor. That information made it much easier/less anxiety-producing to wait. Staff was friendly/sympathetic and displayed that they cared about us and our pet.

Amazing staff! I came to the hospital with my cattle dog after a dog fight. At the same time I was balancing my husband's care at MD Anderson. The staff was SO kind and caring and worked in my dog and took great care of him. I cannot say enough about this team!!!
