Nice small multi screen theatre. Attracts a diverse crowd of Indie lovers. Nice cafe in the large well lighted lobby. Really good latte. Saw the Miles Davis biopic with Black. Fun to spend time with him, a Davis like look and character. He misbehaved a little but still...I liked the film particularly Don Cheadle in it as Miles and the dark beauty who played his wife. A complex man was Miles. Not a walk in the park but well worth the effort to know him. Were his abuses drug related or something more sinister? In so many ways he was a stand up guy in a time when all Black men were routinely disregarded, disrespected, brutalized and dismissed regardless of their status high or low. He stood tall and took his licks but not graciously. For the woman who wrote Mad At Miles, I'm mad at you.
Just visiting in the area for Christmas and really wanted to see "La La Land." This was the only theater around that was showing it and I am glad that I took the time to find my way to their doorstep. It does have an old-fashioned theater field with a little ticket window. There were small touches like an "Actresses" and "Actors" signs above their respective restrooms that made it feel really intimate and not a typical big box "just-gimme-your-money-be-quiet-watch-the-movie-and-get-out" type experience. The seats weren't the over-kill deluxe recliners some other movie theaters seem to be overcompensating with, but just simple comfortable cushion seats which just added to it's appeal. I wish I had a movie theater where I lived with as much character!
While we prefer Midtown Arts for most of our art cinema experiences, Tara often plays flicks you won't see on any other screen in Atlanta -- and plays them ... and plays them ... and plays them. Seriously, don't rush to see anything here; it'll be on one of their four screens for weeks and weeks. The staff is fairly friendly (Jeff, who takes tickets at the door, is a favorite of ours), and the seats are more comfortable than in most theaters. You can still get a pretty good "big screen" experience here if you're in the right theater, but at least one of the screens, created by subdividing what used to be one screen, is cramped and the auditorium is a bit shallow. If something's playing you want to see, don't hesitate to go here.
The second you walk through the doors they immediately surround you by old movie posters and other fun old movie paraphernalia. All this simply enhances the overall film going experience. The theaters are always clean and well kept, plus the seats are super comfortable. Since they only show good films, the experience is not sullied by the crappy movie trailers that would confront you at most theaters (cough! cough! Twilight cough! cough!). The only downside is it rarely has more than 4 movies running at a time, but they'll all be worth your while.
UA Tara is reminiscent of the theaters of old......cozy, only a couple screens, dark, but still full of life. The seating area in the front is a nice touch while looking at the vintage pictures all around the lobby. It can get a little toasty if there are a lot of people but it's typically not THAT crowded on a regular day. If you are looking for more "mainstream" movies, you probably won't find them here but if you like a good indie, vintage, etc type then this is the place. Great date night spot also!
So many of the best movies I've ever seen I saw here. Movies that you won't see elsewhere. And I would also like to give the people that come here to see movies like me 5 stars as well. The best crowd consistently, friendly, interesting to talk to, well mannered, and never exhibiting the cringe worthy behavior that's become standard at the other theaters. Crying babies, using cell phones, talking instead of whispering, always leaving a negative mark on your movie experience. Never at Tara.
A shining gem in the Atlanta theater scene for any serious cinema fan. You're not going to find the latest record-setting blockbusters or the rowdy crowds that accompany them at this serene monument to film, thankfully. There's a time and place for both, and plenty of great theaters in town for them. But if you want to crack open a cold beer and experience the world film festival circuit's best offerings, in the setting they were crafted for, Tara is your theater.
Old school vibe; small theater that is super clean with welcoming staff. Love the selection of films they show, particularly the indie/critically acclaimed line-up. This Regal accepts Movie Pass and the Regal rewards card. If you don't have the Regal Crown Club Rewards, get it (free & you get to redeem points for items at concession or online). Side note - small detail: seats in some (maybe all) do not recline, although they are new and well cushioned.
I saw the Mr. Rogers documentary here and it was wonderful. I got a pint of beer and nestled myself into my seat. The employees are respectable. Never see much of a line here but I assume that is thanks to how quickly your ticket and concessions are given. It is an art theater so do not come here expecting to view Avengers: Infinity War lol. It is a smaller theater more comparable in size to the Publix it shares a lot with. Definitely a good date spot
Love love love the Tara! Classic old school theater featuring consistently great movie choices. If you are looking for state of the art stadium seating, food and drink delivery, IMAX etc. This is not the place for you. If you want to enjoy a good movie that you may not have even heard of this is the spot. We have been here a dozen times at least and only saw one movie we didn't care for (Loving...sorry but it was horrible). Great spot for date night.
This was my first visit to a Regal theatre. The daytime matinee was almost $14. It's not a modern theatre with an expansive selection of concessions. But my star rating is not centered around those elements. The customers I encountered seemed if they had never encountered a single person, a person of color...I am not quite sure what the deal was. Yet during the movie they talked and had their feet on the seats. IT WAS A STRANGE ATMOSPHERE.
False advertising on website, wasn’t actually playing the movie we pre-ordered. We get there and can’t see the movie and we were told to dispute with our bank to get the charges refunded. This theater has no way to reverse a charge? That is one of the most basic retail transactions you can make. At least the employees were kind about it. There was supposed to be an email sent out but we never got one. Not coming to this theater again!
such a cool little art theatre! they really do play a lot of movies that are rarely available anywhere else nearby in Atlanta. the seats are comfy and the theatres are actually really really nice and have these pretty drapey red curtains and all that. they have plenty of night showings so it's good to pop in if you happen to have a free evening. it's my fav little theatre now! oh and lots of free parking available
The long awaited Tara Theater is back in business! Movies switch out on Fridays and show classics and indie films alike. Super quaint for an intimate movie night or night out with family. The lobby is nicely done with comfy chairs to lounge in while admiring historic movie equipment from the early 1900s. Pros: fun assortment of movies that are not in most theaters Cons: movies change often- see them when you can!
The Tara is a long time Atlanta cinema screening films popular with general audiences as well as those that appeal to film buffs. The seats are especially comfortable and the popcorn is passable. Parking is free and plentiful. The theater is easily visible and accessible from the street. Ticket prices (at the time I'm writing this) are on the high end compared to other area movie theaters.
I like this theater for the films it offers that differ from those at other theaters. They don't play the typical blockbusters, but independent style films instead. The popcorn used to be really good here, but lately it has the texture of packing peanuts. At least one of the screening rooms has a horrible odor of musty mold. It's distracting. The staff are all friendly and polite.
A cinema is like a church. We take our seats, turn off our phones and quietly give 100% of our attention for a few hours of our overstimulated lives. I love the Tara because everyone else there understands this, and there’s nobody destroying the magic. Of course it’s also an amazing theater. Even the smaller theater is grand. I’m so glad this gem of a theater is back in business!
Best theatre and only theatre that attracts well-behaved viewers. People who attend this theatre are serious movie watchers and stay quiet while watching. It is a small venue, easy to navigate and shows the more offbeat, artsy films. It is the one remaining old theater from the days when going to see a show was an event, not a living room party. I will always love this theatre.
I have always loved this movie theater! They always have a great selection of features: foreign movies, off beat independent film makers, etc... The Tara still has the wonderful feel of old time movie theaters. Watching movies at home on Netflix is a lame alternative to the experience of watching a movie on a giant screen surrounded by the darkness and quiet of a real theater!
I love the character of this old cinema and the spacious lobby for waiting on friends or hanging between showings. It feels like a movie theater that could actually be used as a movie setting. Last visited to take my kids to see Isle of Dogs and the picture and sound quality was on point and the popcorn was better than expected and we had a friendly experience all around.
The theater is clean and the staff we encountered were polite and friendly. My issue is this is an old theater with old style seating. It has not been updated so the screens are smaller and the sound is not as good. The ticket prices are the same as the newer theaters in the area which is kind of crazy. I think the tickets should be less since it’s an older theater.
Great, well - established theater operated by people who really care about movies. I've been going there for over 45 years and am usually there at least once a week. Also, for people who love Independent films they will take some of the riskiest films on which they make little to no money simply because they believe that's part of their mission.
Excellent theater! It has everything you could want when you watch a movie. Self serve butter machines for our inner fatties. Giant reclining squishy chairs that make it hard to stay awake on a hot Atlanta day. Climate control is set just right. Sound system is great. I don't give a lot of 5 ⭐s, but this place gets one. Reccomend!
Definitely a niche in the theater experience department. Eclectic feel, indie and thoughtful movies, you won't find the cliche blockbuster combo movies of sweat, sex and explosions. It's not a dinner type place, they offer typical movie theater food and expensive alcohol. I'd recommend checking it out if you get a chance though!
Nice and clean. Great staff. Got there 10 mins before show time, and there were at least 15 minutes, of a variety, of "freakin" ads. If I had known, I would have brought a pillow and a blanket till the show started. Just keep screen blank with low soft music till the show begins. Otherwise make my ticket cheaper. uggghhh
Cool little indie theater. They only have 4 screens (obvious by the name) but always have a good selection of critically acclaimed movies and movies that typically screen at festivals but dont make it to the major AMC's and Regals of the world. Came here to see quite a few of the Academy Award nominated films.
Support theaters like this! My first time going to this theater, to catch RRR, a movie that was tough to find times for! Great theater, good service, and a lovely place to see whats playing. Looks like a well-curated selection! Snacks and tickets were, as always, a little pricey, but booze is welcome!
I love the boutique feel of this theater. It has timeless photos and cinema art around the entire venue and each screen room is named after a notable actor, which is pretty cool. The staff was very attentive and the prices for snacks were super reasonable. Makes me want to watch every new movie here.
Went to see Apollo 11 and enjoyed the old school feel and quaint feel. I didn't get a chance to get snacks, but I saw that they had the standard options you'd see in a theater. The actual theaters were clean and had comfy seats. I know where to go see films when I want to avoid the chaos of Atlanta
Popcorn is good. Show offerings are interesting tend toward artsy. Older theater, but well maintained. Theaters are smaller, but sound and picture are pretty good. Traffic to here is tricky, but the parking lot is big enough. Nothing state of the art, but better customer service than most theaters.
The Tara is back. This was always my go to for independent films, so I was sad to see it close. I was there to see a screening of Oppenheimer in 70mm. Furniture and ambience has been updated, it still has the dame feel. I'm so happy the theater has re-opened. I look forward to coming back soon.
Absolutely loved the experience at this neighborhood small theater. Takes you back. Very clean and well maintained. Limited food options but that's part of the simplicity this theater offers. Plenty of parking space. Curated selection of movies that are for the thinking moviegoer.
Friendly staff at this Regal-affiliated theater. They showcase a nice assortment of indie films and documentaries that are refreshing breaks from the Hollywood blockbusters. Be prepared for non-reclining seats, though. But, they are both MoviePass and Regal Rewards compatible. =)
Nice little movie theater with first come first served seating. When I went it was pretty empty so I got a really good seat. The seats aren’t nearly as comfortable as newer theaters though, so that’s a big negative especially since you’re paying the same price as a newer theater.
Most treasured theater in Atlanta. Presents the best collection of movies around. Dares to dare. Great choices in offbeat movies. Some absolute gems that are overlooked by the main stream. Regal has many fine theaters, but this is their best contribution to lovers of film.
Great theater! This was my first time here and I loved the retro movie theater feel of this theater. I was told that this is the second oldest movie theater in Atlanta and it was great that they have maintained that original retro look. It was like going back in time.
Cool restored vintage theater. They often have really great indie films, documentaries, and limited releases. Andre 3000 also had the listening party for his latest album here. I Highly recommend the theater and checking their site for unique films and performances.
Nice theatre that I am glad has reopened. Showings they have selected are great and staff is friendly. Was services by a nice fellow named Jeffery and had a nice conversation about movies with him. Atmosphere is great. Please continue to support this establishment.
A beautiful, historic establishment that’s unfortunately been in the misguided hands of Regal. Hopefully it’ll change hands and become the landmark it clearly deserves to be. Has the potential to be the most breathtaking theatre in Atlanta.
This is my absolute favorite theater in Atlanta to go see films! I often will go by myself (a favorite pastime of mine) and have never been disappointed. You won't see major blockbusters here which is why I love this place. If you're into
Was an incredibly quirky theater. Feels like you take a step back in time and it does provide a great "date night" at the movies. If I do go out for a movie I don't always want to break the bank and feel like I have to go an AMC. Letting
Went there for a movie screening. 7 pm showing. We purchased popcorn. Cold. Nasty. Old popcorn. Disappointing. 7USD for a small bag of old popcorn purchased at 6:48 so right before the show started. Gross. Clean kinda. But small theater.
This is one of my favorite theaters. Prices are relatively reasonable by comparison, especially concessions. Popcorn isn't ridiculously salty; small drinks can actually pass for smallish. Chairs are getting older, but still comfortable.
I loved it going here. I came to this theater to see a film that is in limited release and it was the closest theater showing the movie. This theatre only shows limited releases or indie films. From what I've seen the customers are
Atlanta’s home for arthouse films and the city’s second oldest cinema. Great mid century style, 4 spacious auditoriums, terrific programming and a great place for movie-lovers. This is definitely a biased review.
I love the independent showings at this theater. While it is small, it is clean and has a good variety of concessions. Parking is a bit cramped due to its location at the edge of a shared parking lot.
Absolutely love the newly reopened Tara Theater! The renovations have begun to return the theater to it's charming former glory. Not to mention, it's one of the few art house theaters left in Atlanta.
Such a cool theater and SO SWANKY! I'm really happy to have a locally run theater like this that can run indie and older movies. They still do the blockbusters too so support this local business!
The Regal Tara is a great theater. Big screens and good projection. With only 5 screens, they tend to schedule a lot of films you may not be able to see elsewhere, but that why I love them.
It’s heartwarming that Tara Theater has reopened. It’s grand there aren’t 20 minutes of commercials- Coca-Cola, etc. some remodeling ((I’ve only sat in one of the theaters). It’s perfect.
Check out the value day of the week for cheaper tickets! Getting the tickets online was piece of cake. Enjoyed 3k years of longing recently and La la land about six years ago 8-)
Tara theatre will forever stay in my heart as one of the last remaining art house theaters in Atlanta. It showcases fantastic indie films and the staff treats you next to kin.
A simply awesome cinema experience. A very clean, pretty theatre. Friendly staff, awesome old-school concessions, and comfortable seating. The audio is fantastic as well.
The TARA is back in all it's glory. IMAX as well as your traditional movie style theaters. Freshly remodeled and looking spectacular, look forward to seeing independent
*No longer a Regal*!! This place is awesome since the reopening/ renovation! Lovely movie experience. Cute, retro but cleaned up interior. Friendly and helpful staff.
Great screening of Oppenheimer. Large theater. Glad the Tara has reopened. Movie was about 3 hours long. A little stiff, but that's consequences with 3hrs of sitting.
Was greeted promptly! Nice, well kept theatre with plenty of parking, without the large volumes of traffic (not as busy)! I highly recommend this establishment!
This is my favourite movie theatre in Atlanta. It's a classic. I love that it shows Independent Films. Awesome staff and super clean. And they have StarBucks !
We're really glad they have reopened - most of the movies are really old or really weird but they are advertising Asteroid City and we're going to see it
Great theater, went to see Killers of the Flower moon and the audio was fantastic, better than some of the premium experiences at the big theaters.
My absolute favorite neighborhood theater. The only theater I go to. Never seen a movie I didn't like there. Friendly, helpful staff❤ …
Newly remolded first run and art films. Top notch sound, and presentation. Movies show in 70mm & 35mm film, and Digital Awsomeness!
Super cool place and looks great! Guy at the counter never said Hello or Welcome; just seem tried and drained. A must see in ATL!
Atlanta has an embarrassment of riches when it comes to quality cinemas. I'm very glad to see this one come back from the brink.
Great chairs. Wonderful sound system! Lovely to sit and not get bombarded by ads!! Really great plane to see a movie!!!
Gr8 space with new and classic movies . Also has electric charging stations in free parking lot. No place better....
We paid $70 for three people to see one movie. We live in Concord NC and can get it for $20. Do not go here!!!
A trip back in time to a theatre that pays homage to the history of cinema. None like this anymore, anywhere.
Should really clear space for something better at this venue. Old for the sake of old doesn't make it good.
A small older theater with independent movies, friendly staff. Some popular stuff too (just saw Barbie).
We all have flat panels and streaming services at home. A theatre is only about the experience, right?
So happy the Tara is reopened! Nice staff, ample parking, and a great selection of movies new and old.
Great theater. Glad to see it stayed open, always clean and with a fantastic selection of films.
Back and better than ever! They havre great decor and staff that really care about movies.
So much nicer since the remodel. And they have popcorn with real butter! Glad it's back.
Great movie theater, classic movies & new releases. Plus real butter on the popcorn
The ticket was around $10 more dye to some special format the movie was using!
No cash, only credit / debit cards. I won't be back. The movie was amazing!
Lovely theater! Popcorn was amazing since they use real butter. …
I love the historical film equipment that is on display - so cool!
The restoration is lovely. Great picture quality. Friendly staff.
70mm presentation of Oppenheimer had some optical distortion
Saw Oppenheimer there, my first time there. No biggie
Best theater in Atlanta. It's a cultural experience!
Glad to see Tara open back up! Always enjoy going
I've loved going to this theater for so long.
New seats. Beautiful place to watch a mib
