Sometimes good sometimes not so good well the bad is portion sizes are getting alot smaller while the price is slowly rising. The food is sometimes great but sometimes a bit to much salt or oil, now don't get me wrong it's a amazing place but only a few issues and lately the issue is i booked a table yet they didn't have me down so had to go elsewhere. But this was obviously someone's fault but never had that issue again..

There is alot of parking out front and on the side on the rocks I think around 80 cars easily can fit.
Kid-friendliness
When you buy a kids meal they have booklets for them they don't care if kids are a little noisy as kids are and they don't mind a bit of mess either though we always clean afterwards to help out.
Wheelchair accessibility
They have ramps for entrances only thing I can say is maybe getting around inside might be a little tight but that depends how full they are.

The view is beautiful from the undercover outdoor seating area of the Birkenhead Tavern as it sits at the warf of old Port Adelaide or you can opt for the indoor seating they have available. The menu offers a selection for all tastes breakfast lunch and dinner. We went for Dinner with local friends who frequently enjoy the Tavern. The meals were beautiful and fresh. I chose the Risotto and it was absolutely delicious. I then followed up with coffee and sticky date pudding. The Meals and dessert portions are very generous in size. #.The ramekin of Icecream was sitting in the pudding sauce. This was messy and off putting. I don't know where the ramekin had been prior to sitting in my bowl of food. I tried to discuss this concern with the wait staff who was less than interested. Which is disappointing as my complaints are small but could make all the difference to service. This in no way affects the experience of the Tavern and my friends say the breakfast is a must try.

Went for a walk around the area to see the old steam tug boat "Fearless". While walking by we decided to stop in to the tavern for a quick drink. The bar staff were super friendly and kind. We had a couple of drinks and people watched for a while. The place was getting pretty busy, but despite the number of customers, nothing seemed to be too much bother for the wait staff or bar staff who took everything in their stride. Our dinner was delicious, it was simple fish and chips with salad, but it was fresh and tasty and reasonably priced. Our plates were cleared quickly and we decided to stay for dessert. Had the cheesecake, which was a generous portion and while unusual in flavour (Apricot and chocolate and... Something else? On a chocolate biscuit base) It was yummy and we finished it all! Thank you for a very enjoyable, impromptu evening.

It was a great night out with friends in the outside covered area for dinner. Seafood and steak in various quantities. Very noisy when full of people, a very popular place for dinner even with a big storm rolling in. Perfect for big gatherings like Xmas or birthday parties. The food was very good in both quality and quantity, the service was quick and polite. Recommended top 5 spot in Port Adelaide for a good meal.

Our group decided to come here for lunch, despite me living in the area for 10years. Well I must admit it wasn't bad, despite the bloke taking the orders having a blonde moment & confusing my order of swordfish with a ceasar salad. And having to wait & watch while the rest of my group, who ordered after me all get their meals, most had finished before I got mine. I began to wish I'd ordered plain old fish & chips as they looked really good as did some of the salads. My dish was nice, but unfortunately one of the pieces of swordfish was a bit too raw for my taste, (I'm not a fan of raw fish) and it was bland despite me seasoning it. But the fattoush salad that came with the swordfish was superb. I wished they'd marinated the swordfish with the fattoush seasoning, now that'd make it a really nice dish.

We are semi regulars here & always enjoy it. On this particular visit there were 7 of us booked for & all seated by 12.30pm. We had all ordered by 12.45pm but did not receive our meal until 1.40pm only after asking where our meals were (no entrees, only mains). The steak in the big Burk grills my wife & I ordered seemed as though it had been kept under a warmer for 30 mins or more, extremely tough. Opposingly the egg needed another 2 mins with a jelly like white. Being a small 60th bday gathering it was a very disappointing visit. To me, it appeared the bus load of patrons who had arrived were given priority. We were not a last minute booking yet seem to be given 2nd priority.

Cannot fault this place! Fantastic friendly service from the moment we walked in (with no booking). Nice seating outside looking over the Port River, warm on a cool night thanks to the clear blinds. Would also be lovely in the day time with them open. Surprisingly busy for a Tuesday night, with lots of families and a lovely vibe. The food (chicken schnitzels) came out so fast and were really tasty and large. Good price at $17 on special on Mon, Tues and Wed (normally $22). I couldn't finish mine and they gave me a container to take away. Definitely recommend for a very good pub meal in a nice location. Probably best to book for a large group or at a more popular time!

Fantastic experience, excellent value and service. Wonderful atmosphere and location at Pt Adelaide with delightful Seabreeze, sitting outside in the shade. Relaxing view of the harbour and the water. not crowded. Great menu selection.Had my favourite dish, lambs fry, with the very best serving I have ever had. With a superb glass of cab-sav in the company of my son,on a magical sunny day in winter, drawing everybody outside to enjoy it. This place is a well kept secret and we will be definitely coming back here again. It's a lovely drive there and drive back along the coast seeing the beautiful blue sea made for a special memorible outing and time together.

  • Susie W

A lovely time was had here recently for a special birthday. The food was fantastic, service great and the staff went above and beyond to make this a great day. We had the chicken special, cooked to perfection, with a creamy sauce, schnitzels went down a treat and the mixed grills were great although the boys said the steaks were a tad overdone, they forgot to ask for rare steaks so it was their own fault. We will definitely be back !

I'm so torn with this place.. You may walk in and get the best service possible from all staff or you may get the opposite. Roll the dice and see what happens. It's the same with the food. I have somehow had the best schnitzel and the absolute worst here. My wife and I went for our 10th anniversary as I loved a particular beer they had on tap and wanted a schnitzel and she loved their garlic prawns that she had 1 week earlier. This time all of it was terrible, the schnitzel was somehow oily and dry, the prawns rubbery, the tap beer had all been changed and we left disappointed. With consistency this place would be amazing.

A popular, bustling hub of activity even mid week in winter! Comprehensive, sensibly priced menu and wine list with 20% seniors food discount at lunch service. We chose Garlic Prawns and the Slow cooked Lamb dish. As required, I ordered at the bar and both meals were excellent and arrived in a timely manner. It was very noisy however, in better weather one could choose to eat outside further away from the crowd! There was ample parking and a river view. I recommend a visit!

Long standing historic Port Adelaide hotel. Gone are the days of sawdust on the floor of the Front Bar with a lovely enclosed Dining area overlooking the Port River and port area, with the Red Lighthouse and Fisherman's Wharf across the water. Interesting display of wall photos to bring back the heydays of this area. You can only imagine the stories the walls could tell..Comprehensive menu for both good and drinks. Helpful and friendly staff. All in all a pleasant surprise in what would have been a rough diamond hotel in years gone past..

  • Dillon Rix

Have always enjoyed dining in here. However after questioning why gravy was being charged for with a schnitzel which states on the menu “with choice of sauce” we were told it’s not included when you purchase the schnitzel with a topping, although you pay extra for the topping as it is an add on. Although the gravy was only $4 extra, overcharging wrongly in todays day and age is not acceptable, and even being pulled up on it they refused to revise the bill. Pretty shameful.

One thing I couldn't help but notice here was the number of people ordering a lunch special or small meal and just filling up at the salad bar. The salads were pretty standard but there was a bit of something for everyone. Meals were yummo, I had the beetroot feta salad, nicely made and presented. The price was right. Chips were good, the fishcakes were mostly batter: not a fan. There is something on the menu for everyone though. Nice place to sit too. VERY busy even on lunch on a wednesday

The location is the best Waterfront restaurant Port Adelaide has to offer. Pre-booking is highly recommended!! A big variety for every taste on the menu so as the salad bar. Meals are well presented and good portioned. Prices may be a little bit high for the locals. The staff is a very well trained - a friendly, smiling, happy bunch being the dot on the 'i' to give you a great eating-out experience, this luckily hasn't changed during the nine years I go there.

Always pass this tavern on the way to Semaphore & finally decided to stop by on a Sunday afternoon. Place fills up pretty quickly so I reccomend booking a table especially if its more than 2 people. The Burgers were good . Homemade patties & chips were nice & beer battered. Will have to try their fish & chips next time. The view was really nice & different seeing the opposite side of the pier.

This place was fantastic! we went there on the recommendation of friends who couldn’t resist the opportunity to join us. The staff made us feel extremely welcome from the moment we arrived - I’m not just talking courteous service but also intelligent, thoughtful service. The food (choice & quality) was amazing and the drinks were reasonably priced. Although we are rarely in this part of Adelaide we WILL be back if only for the Birkenhead Tavern!

  • Christine

I went there today and both the floor staff and bar staff were very rude. Treat those how you are treated! If a customer is friendly the least you can do is be the same! In a current climate where many consider going out for lunch as a treat due to the cost of living, the least you can do is treat customers kindly. Food was lovely but would not recommend to others based on the service alone.

Always noticed lots of cars here so decided to pop in. Super busy for a midweek lunch but luckily we got a nice outside table. Monday and Tuesday are the quieter days so best to make a reservation for other days. Staff were friendly and happy to offer us a choice of tables. The rack of lamb was delicious and cooked perfectly. My only negative was I thought the prices were a bit on the high side but still worth 5 stars.

We went for a drive out to Port Adelaide and chose this pub due to it being really well rated, with good reviews. It was 4.30pm on a Sunday afternoon, not super busy. My steak was well done when I asked for medium, the burger was over done too. The vegetables were nicely cooked and it was nice to have veg and chips as an option. Nice views.

This sweet spot is called "Cruickshank's" beach and one to checkout, when you're at the Port next. It's not a big spot, but there's lots to see from its vantage point. Birkenhead hotel offers eat in or takeaway, plus make a hot latte. My Maremma loves to run, and my old girl enjoys her swim. Plenty of parking

Great place to dine. First time I've been there and wasn't disappointed. I have the barra with parmesan coating. Yum Yum. Cooked to perfection with large servings. Have been here twice before and had the Seafood Platter and it was the best. Fresh and delicious. Today the seafood food platter was extremely disappointing. Salad was limp with a terrible cream dressing and the seafood was not up to the usual standard in terms of it being fresh and cooked properly.

Cute pub on the river. My lamb fillet salad was amazing and considering how fresh it was outside. It was nice and toasty inside. I love a good wine list
